Abstract The Lange glacier is an outlet glacier situated in the Admiralty Bay, King George Island, Peninsula Antarctica. It retreated about 1 km since the 1950s. Although recent observations do not show any significant change at the ice-ocean margin, it is not clear whether this glacier has reached a new steady state or whether it is still adjusting to new climate conditions. By combining a three-dimensional glacier model with satellite and in-situ datasets, we investigate the sensitivity of Lange glacier to perturbations in flow rate factor, friction coefficient, surface mass balance, and calving front position. The (time-dependent) perturbation experiments show that the glacier is more sensitive to changes in surface mass balance and in flow rate factor. These results suggest that the climate variability of this region plays an important role on the glacier’s dynamics, and that measurements of englacial temperature will improve the reliability of future modeling efforts. Our model shows that the position of the ice front exerts a strong control on the glacier flux. In our time-dependent simulation, the impacts of the observed front retreat on the glacier’s dynamics persist beyond the present date. This suggests that Lange is likely still adjusting to past perturbations at its terminus.

RESUMO As doenças priônicas são uma importante causa de demências rapidamente progressivas. Entre elas, a mais comum é a doença de Creutzfeldt-Jakob (DCJ) esporádica. É uma enfermidade rara e incurável, com rápida progressão para óbito. Objetivo: Descrever a abordagem diagnóstica de uma paciente com doença de Creutzfeldt-Jakob. Métodos: O diagnóstico é estabelecido pelo quadro clínico associado a alterações características na ressonância magnética cerebral, no eletroencefalograma e pela análise de alterações específicas no líquido cefalorraquidiano. Resultados: O presente relato descreve o caso de um paciente de 53 anos na cidade de Fortaleza (CE). O diagnóstico foi feito com base na condição clínica e por meio de testes diagnósticos, incluindo proteína 14-3-3 e análise Real-Time Quaking-Induced Conversion (RT QUIC). O diagnóstico diferencial foi realizado com outras causas rapidamente progressivas, como doenças infecciosas e imunomediadas. Conclusões: Por fim, foi estabelecido o diagnóstico de provável DCJ esporádica.

ABSTRACT Prion diseases are an important cause of rapidly progressive dementias. Among them, the most common is sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD). It is a rare and incurable disease, with rapid progression to death. Objective: To describe the diagnostic approach of a patient with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. Methods: The diagnosis is established through the clinical picture associated with characteristic changes in the brain magnetic resonance imaging, the electroencephalogram, and analysis of specific changes in the cerebrospinal fluid. Results: The present report describes the case of a 53-year-old patient in the city of Fortaleza-CE. The diagnosis was made based on the clinical condition and through diagnostic tests, including 14-3-3 protein and RT QUIC analysis. Differential diagnosis was performed with other rapidly progressive causes, such as infectious and immune-mediated diseases. Conclusions: The diagnosis of probable sporadic CJD was established.

BACKGROUND In Brazil, the yellow fever virus (YFV) is maintained in a sylvatic cycle involving wild mosquitoes and non-human primates (NHPs). The virus is endemic to the Amazon region; however, waves of epidemic expansion reaching other Brazilian states sporadically occur, eventually causing spillovers to humans. OBJECTIVES To report a surveillance effort that led to the first confirmation of YFV in NHPs in the state of Minas Gerais (MG), Southeast region, in 2021. METHODS A surveillance network was created, encompassing the technology of smartphone applications and coordinated actions of several research institutions and health services to monitor and investigate NHP epizootics. FINDINGS When alerts were spread through the network, samples from NHPs were collected and YFV infection confirmed by reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) and genome sequencing at an interval of only 10 days. Near-complete genomes were generated using the Nanopore MinION sequencer. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that viral genomes were related to the South American genotype I, clustering with a genome detected in the Amazon region (state of Pará) in 2017, named YFVPA/MG sub-lineage. Fast YFV confirmation potentialised vaccination campaigns. MAIN CONCLUSIONS A new YFV introduction was detected in MG 6 years after the beginning of the major outbreak reported in the state (2015-2018). The YFV strain was not related to the sub-lineages previously reported in MG. No human cases have been reported, suggesting the importance of coordinated surveillance of NHPs using available technologies and supporting laboratories to ensure a quick response and implementation of contingency measures to avoid YFV spillover to humans.

Resumo O objetivo geral do presente estudo é analisar a influência dos atributos da qualidade do serviço evidenciadas pelo site TripAdvisor, na satisfação geral do consumidor. A amostra é composta por 43 localidades cearenses que participam do ranking de destinos mais procurados pelos turistas no Ceará, constituindo um total de 2.293 estabelecimentos, cujas avaliações foram capturadas por um crawler e, em seguida, extraídas com uso de um parser, ambos executados em linguagem Python. Os resultados gerados por meio de métodos quantitativos. Os resultados sugerem que investimentos na estrutura dos quartos, no atendimento e na limpeza poderiam aumentar a satisfação dos clientes, tendo em vista que são esses atributos, respectivamente, que têm a maior probabilidade de influenciar um cliente a atribuir nota máxima ao estabelecimento. Outros achados mostram que a maioria dos estabelecimentos avaliados com nota máxima estão localizados principalmente no litoral, com destaque para os de Jericoacoara, que hospedagens situadas em municípios mais extensos e populosos têm, em média, menos chances de serem avaliadas com notas máximas de satisfação geral, que os hóspedes tendem a ficar mais rigorosos com o passar o tempo, levando a atribuir notas menores de satisfação geral.

Abstract The general objective of this study was to analyze the influence of two attributes of quality of service evidenced by the TripAdvisor website, for general consumer satisfaction. Sample and composed of 43 places in Ceará that participated in the ranking of the most sought after destinations by tourists, and not in Ceará, constituting a total of 2,293 establishments, whose evaluations were captured by a tracker and later extracted with the use of an analyzer, both executed in Python language. The results generated through quantitative methods. The results suggest that investments in the structure of two rooms, the lack of cleaning service, can increase the satisfaction of two customers, considering that these attributes are, respectively, that they are more likely to influence a customer to give top marks to the establishment. Other experts have shown that the majority of the two establishments with the highest marks are located mainly abroad, with emphasis on Jericoacoara, located in the largest and most populous municipalities, least likely to be recognized with the highest overall satisfaction scores, which guests tend to subscribe to more stringent ones such as spending or time, increasing to assign lower overall satisfaction scores.

Resumen El objetivo general de este estudio fue analizar la influencia de dos atributos de calidad de servicio evidenciados por el sitio web de TripAdvisor, para la satisfacción general del consumidor. Muestra compuesta por 43 localidades en Ceará que participaron en la clasificación de los destinos más buscados por los turistas, y no en Ceará, lo que constituye un total de 2,293 establecimientos, cuyas evaluaciones fueron capturadas por un rastreador y luego extraídas con el uso de un analizador, ambos ejecutados en lenguaje Python. Los resultados generados a través de métodos cuantitativos. Los resultados sugieren que las inversiones en la estructura de dos habitaciones, la falta de servicio de limpieza, puede aumentar la satisfacción de dos clientes, considerando que estos atributos son, respectivamente, que tienen más probabilidades de influir en un cliente para que otorgue las mejores calificaciones al establecimiento. Otros expertos han demostrado que la mayoría de los dos establecimientos con las calificaciones más altas se encuentran principalmente en el extranjero, con énfasis en Jericoacoara, ubicado en los municipios más grandes y poblados, con menos probabilidades de ser reconocido con los puntajes de satisfacción general más altos, que los huéspedes tienden a suscribir a otros más estrictos, como pasar tiempo o tiempo, aumentando para asignar puntajes de satisfacción general más bajos.

Resumo: Introdução: A carência e as desigualdades na distribuição geográfica de médicos desafiam a consolidação do direito à saúde e criam fluxos migratórios que acirram iniquidades em saúde. Devido ao seu caráter complexo e multidimensional, demandam abordagens políticas multissetoriais, considerando vários fatores relativos à disponibilidade e à área de atuação de médicos, bem como à vulnerabilidade social das populações consideradas. Objetivo: Este estudo teve como objetivo analisar os resultados do eixo Formação do Programa Mais Médicos no Brasil. Métodos: Realizou-se uma pesquisa documental, especificamente relativa à localização e à natureza pública ou privada das novas vagas de graduação em Medicina, no período de 2013 a 2017, em que se confrontaram os resultados obtidos com as metas e estratégias pactuadas nos documentos oficiais do programa. Resultados: O eixo Formação alcançou resultados importantes, apesar da resistência de alguns atores institucionais. O programa expandiu em 7.696 vagas de graduação, sendo 22,48% em instituições públicas e 77,52% em instituições privadas. A distribuição das novas vagas priorizou cidades do interior do Brasil e aprovou mudanças regulatórias importantes para os cursos de Medicina. No entanto, as disputas políticas com atores sociais representativos da classe médica e aqueles interessados no favorecimento do setor privado na educação e assistência à saúde ficaram expressas nos discursos e documentos oficiais. Tais aspectos fragilizaram o corpo normativo do programa e criaram um hiato entre os seus objetivos e a implementação. Evidências referentes à concentração de vagas no Sudeste do país favorecem a manutenção das desigualdades, a despeito de um crescimento proporcionalmente maior nas Regiões Centro-Oeste, Nordeste e Norte. Conclusão: A prevalência de vagas em instituições privadas e a fragilização de instrumentos de monitoramento dos novos cursos podem comprometer a mudança no perfil dos egressos, necessária para a fixação de médicos em áreas estratégicas e na atenção primária à saúde.

Abstract: Introduction: The scarcity and inequalities in the geographical distribution of physicians challenge the consolidation of the right to health and create migratory flows that increase health inequities. Due to their complex and multidimensional characteristics, they demand multisectoral political approaches, considering several factors related to the availability and area of practice of medical doctors, as well as the social vulnerability of local populations. Objective: This study aimed at analysing results of the “Mais Médicos” (More Doctors) Program Educational Axis in Brazil. Methodology: A documental research was conducted, highlighting the location and the public or private nature of new undergraduate medical school vacancies between the years 2013 until 2017, which were then compared to the goals and strategies outlined in the official Program documents. Results: The Educational Axis reached important milestones despite the resistance of some institutional actors. The Program extended its undergraduate vacancies by 7696 places, 22.48% of that in public institutions and 77.52% in private ones. Vacancy distribution prioritized cities in rural areas of Brazil, at the same instance bringing forward significant regulatory changes for undergraduate medical courses. However, political disputes with representatives of medical societies and stakeholders interested in favouring the private educational and healthcare sectors surface in the official discourses and documents. These factors weakened the program normative body, creating a hiatus between its core objectives and respective implementation. Evidence related to the concentration of vacancies in the Southeast regions allow the maintenance of a known unequal workforce distribution, despite a proportionally bigger increase in the Midwest, North and Northeast regions. Conclusion: The predominance of vacancies in private institutions and the weakening of the new undergraduate courses monitoring instruments can compromise changes in the graduate students’ profiles, which are necessary for the fixation of physicians in strategic geographic areas to promote Primary Healthcare.

Resumo O presente estudo foi realizado na microrregião de Ilhéus-Itabuna, Bahia. Os objetivos deste estudo foram determinar a soroprevalência de anticorpos contra Sarcocystis neurona em equinos da microrregião Ilhéus-Itabuna (BA) e identificar possíveis fatores associados à infecção. A presença de esporocistos/oocistos de Sarcocystis spp. também foi pesquisada em Didelphis spp. Foram coletadas 669 amostras de soro de equinos em 56 propriedades localizadas em 12 municípios da região. Foi utilizada a reação de imunofluorescência indireta (RIFI), utilizando-se lâminas confeccionadas com merozoítos de Sarcocystis neurona (cepa SN138) e ponto de corte na diluição de 1:80. A ocorrência de anticorpos anti- S. neurona, nos equinos amostrados, foi de 7,92%. As finalidades dos animais - comércio e trabalho - apresentaram-se significativas (p<0.05), sendo que a finalidade trabalho (21,6%) foi considerada fator de risco, enquanto a finalidade comércio (3,6%) foi considerada fator de proteção. Foram capturados 25 Didelphis spp., para pesquisa de esporocistos/oocistos em amostras de fezes e raspado de mucosa intestinal. Todos os Didelphis spp. foram negativos para a presença de Sarcocystis spp., mesmo assim essa circunstância não alterou o fato da ocorrência de S. neurona ter sido observada em cavalos criados na mesorregião do sul da Bahia.

Abstract The aims of this study were to determine the seroprevalence of Sarcocystis neurona antibodies in equines in the Ilhéus-Itabuna microregion (BA), and identify possible factors associated with infection. The presence of sporocysts/oocysts of Sarcocystis spp. was also verified in Didelphis spp. A total of 669 serum samples were collected from equines in 56 properties located in 12 municipalities in the region. Indirect fluorescent antibody test was performed with slides containing merozoites of the S. neurona, using a cut-off titer of 1:80. Occurrence of 7.92% of anti-S. neurona antibodies was observed in the sampled equines. The purposes trade and work were significantly associated with the presence of antibodies (p<0.05), and being used for the purpose of work (21.6%) was considered a risk factor, while being used for the purpose of trade (3.6%) was a protective factor. A total of 25 Didelphis spp. was captured for research on sporocysts/oocysts in stool samples and intestinal scrapings, being all negative. Didelphis spp. were all negative for the presence of Sarcocystis spp. and this circumstance does not change the fact that seroprevalence of S. neurona has been observed in horses raised in the southern Bahia.

RESUMO O objetivo deste estudo é analisar o perfil clínico-hospitalar de neonatos com o diagnóstico de hérnia diafragmática congênita (HDC), no período de 2008 a 2018 em um hospital de referência materno-infantil. Trata-se de um estudo transversal e analítico descritivo, que incluiu principalmente dados de prontuários com os códigos Q79.0, Q79.1, J986, K44 e K44.0 da Classificação Internacional de Doenças (CID-10). Os critérios de exclusão de prontuários foram o diagnóstico de outros tipos de hérnia diafragmática, sem o aspecto congênito; a internação em unidades que não fossem UTI Neonatal; e a idade no ato de internação igual ou superior a 29 dias. Analisou-se um total de 25.602 prontuários, dos quais 14 corresponderam a HDC. O acometimento por gênero foi de 71,43% masculino (10 casos) e 28,57% feminino (4), com 21,34% das localizações de HDC tipo Bochdalek à direita (3) e 78,57% à esquerda (11). Todos os neonatos deste estudo passaram por ventilação mecânica invasiva (VMI) 9,21 ± 5,55 dias. A cirurgia foi indicada em 11 casos (78,57%), com vias de acesso por toracotomia em 4 (36,36%) e por laparotomia subcostal em 7 (63,64%), todos com uso de dreno torácico homolateral ao hemitórax. O tempo total de internação foi de 19,42 ± 15,36 dias. Observou-se a evolução de alta melhorada em oito pacientes (57,14%) e o óbito de seis (42,86%), com idade de 6,19 ± 4,79 dias, sem referência de acompanhamento do desenvolvimento neuropsicomotor posteriormente. Ocorreram baixas incidências de casos por ano, e o gênero de acometimento, as malformações associadas e o tempo de VMI foram semelhantes a outras populações no mundo.

ABSTRACT The aim of this study is to analyze the clinical and hospital profile of newborns diagnosed with Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH) from 2008 to 2018 in a maternal and child reference hospital. It is a cross-sectional and descriptive analytical study, which mainly included data from medical records with the codes Q79.0, Q79.1, J98.6, K44 and K44.0 of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10). The exclusion criteria of medical records were the diagnosis of other types of diaphragmatic hernia, without the congenital aspect; hospitalization in units that were not Neonatal ICUs; and the age at admission equal to or greater than 29 days. A total of 25,602 records were analyzed, of which 14 corresponded to CDH. The gender involvement was 71.43% male (10 cases) and 28.57% female (4), with 21.34% of Bochdalek-type CDH located on the right (3) and 78.57% on the left (11). All newborns in this study underwent invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV) 9.21 ± 5.55 days. Surgery was indicated in 11 cases (78.57%), with thoracotomy access routes in four (36.36%) and subcostal laparotomy in seven (63.64%), all using a chest tube homolateral to the hemithorax. The total hospital stay was 19.42 ± 15.36 days. There was an improved discharge evolution in eight patients (57.14%) and the death of six (42.86%), with ages around 6.19 ± 4.79 days, with no follow-up of neuropsychomotor development afterwards. There were low incidences of cases per year, the gender involvement, the associated malformations and the IMV time were similar to other populations in the world.

RESUMEN El objetivo de este estudio es analizar el perfil clínico-hospitalario de neonatos diagnosticados con hernia diafragmática congénita (HDC) en el período de 2008 a 2018 en un hospital de referencia materno-infantil. Este es un estudio transversal, analítico-descriptivo, realizado con base en datos de historias clínicas con los códigos Q79.0, Q79.1, J986, K44 y K44.0 de la Clasificación Internacional de Enfermedades (CIE-10). Los criterios de exclusión de las historias clínicas fueron el diagnóstico de otros tipos de hernia diafragmática sin el aspecto congénito; hospitalización en unidades que no sean UCI neonatales; y edad de ingreso igual o mayor a 29 días. Se analizaron un total de 25.602 registros, de los cuales 14 correspondían a HDC. Entre el género afectado, el 71,43% fue el género masculino (10 casos) y el 28,57% el femenino (4), con un 21,34% de las ubicaciones de la HDC de tipo Bochdalek a la derecha (3) y un 78,57% a la izquierda (11). Todos los recién nacidos en este estudio estuvieron bajo ventilación mecánica invasiva (VMI) por 9,21±5,55 días. La cirugía estuvo indicada para 11 casos (78,57%), con vías de acceso por toracotomía para 4 (36,36%) y laparotomía subcostal para 7 (63,64%), todos con sonda torácica homolateral al hemitórax. La estancia hospitalaria total fue de 19,42±15,36 días. Se observó una mejor evolución del alta en ocho pacientes (57,14%) y muerte de seis (42,86%) con 6,19±4,79 días de edad, sin referencia de seguimiento del desarrollo neuropsicomotor posteriormente. Hubo baja incidencia de casos por año; y el género que acomete, las malformaciones asociadas y el tiempo de VMI fueron similares a otros estudios de la literatura.

Abstract The aim of this study was to assess Brazilian endodontists’ level of knowledge about the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and examine its professional repercussions. The link to the online survey that was created for this study was shared with Brazilian endodontists through social networking applications. The questionnaire contained questions that pertained to COVID-19 and its impact on dental practice. The collected data were analyzed using t-test, chi-square analysis, and analysis of variance, and the level of significance was set at 0.05. A total of 2,135 participants responded to the questionnaire, and all five Brazilian regions were represented in the sample. A total of 98.50% of endodontists reported that dental procedures can transmit COVID-19. Complete social distancing was practiced by 96.68% of the participants, and approximately 25% knew someone who had COVID-19. Moreover, in their daily practice, 72.13% of them implemented biosecurity measures that are ineffective in preventing COVID-19. Furthermore, 91.7% of them reportedly suspended elective dental procedures. Only 55.69% of them reported that they performed only emergency procedures in their workplaces. Those who believed that COVID-19 cannot be transmitted during dental procedures were less knowledgeable about the symptoms of COVID-19 (p = 0.0095). Endodontists who believed that personal protective equipment cannot prevent contamination were more knowledgeable about the symptoms of COVID-19 than their counterparts (p = 0.0003). The participating Brazilian endodontists demonstrated adequate knowledge about the risk of contamination during dental procedures and the main symptoms of COVID-19. Only some professionals reported providing emergency dental care during the pandemic.

ABSTRACT. This study aimed to evaluate açaí meal in diets for commercial laying hens on apparent nutrient digestibility and apparent metabolizable energy. A total of 72 Hissex White laying hens (52-wks-old) were distributed in a completely randomized design, where treatments consisted of a control diet and an experimental diet (25% açaí meal) with six replicates of six birds each. Data collected were subjected to polynomial regression at 5%. Differences (p < 0.05) were detected in digestibility of all evaluated nutrients. Hens fed diets with 25% açaí meal presented worse (p < 0.05) metabolization and use of energy content. It can be concluded that hens fed diets containing açaí meal presented better use of crude protein, non-fiber carbohydrates and mineral matter. However, there was worse use of dry matter, fiber carbohydrates and ether extract. This result directly affected the energy metabolism of the birds. The inclusion of açaí meal reduced the energy use.

Objective: to develop a Navigation Program for cancer patients, based on the model proposed by The GW Cancer Institute at George Washington University, adapted to the reality of a Brazilian High Complexity Center in Oncology. Method: a convergent care research applied in the development of a patient navigation care process, based on the model proposed by George Washington University, adapted for a High Complexity Center in Oncology in Brazil. Phases of the Convergent Assistance Research: conception, instrumentation, scrutiny, analysis and interpretation. These were correlated with the stages of the Program Development Cycle. Scale designed to categorize patients into navigation levels, validated by the Delphi Technique, with 12 specialists. Results: in the diagnosis, patients with head and neck cancer were defined for inclusion in the Navigation Program. Planning and implementation took place simultaneously, allowing the basic formatting of the program and its processes to be designed. Navigation Needs Assessment Scale designed to select the patient to join the Program and determine the recommended support. The scale validation had a consensus index of 96.42%. Evaluation of the stages of the cycle occurred through the adapted Plan/Do/Check/Act cycle. Conclusion: a Navigation Program was developed adapted to the Brazilian reality, and attributions of the navigators were created.

Objetivo: desarrollar un Programa de Navegación para pacientes con cáncer, basado en el modelo propuesto por The GW Cancer Institute de la Universidad George Washington, adaptado a la realidad de un Centro de Alta Complejidad en Oncología brasileño. Método: investigación de atención convergente aplicada en el desarrollo de un proceso de atención de navegación para pacientes, basado en el modelo propuesto por la Universidad George Washington, adaptado para un Centro de Alta Complejidad en Oncología en Brasil. Fases de la investigación de asistencia convergente: concepción, instrumentación, escrutinio, análisis e interpretación. Estos se correlacionaron con las etapas del ciclo de desarrollo del programa. Escala diseñada para clasificar a los pacientes en niveles de navegación, validado por la Técnica Delphi, con 12 especialistas. Resultados: en el diagnóstico, los pacientes con cáncer de cabeza y cuello fueron definidos para su inclusión en el Programa de Navegación. La planificación y la implementación se llevaron a cabo simultáneamente, permitiendo diseñar el formato básico del programa y sus procesos. Escala de evaluación de necesidades de navegación diseñada para seleccionar al paciente que se unirá al Programa y determinar el apoyo recomendado. La validación de la escala tuvo un índice de consenso del 96,42%. La evaluación de las etapas del ciclo ocurrió a través del ciclo adaptado Plan/Do/Check/Act. Conclusión: se desarrolló un programa de navegación adaptado a la realidad brasileña, y fueron creadas asignaciones de los navegadores.

Método: pesquisa convergente assistencial aplicada no desenvolvimento de um processo assistencial de Navegação de Pacientes, fundamentado no modelo proposto pela George Washington University, adaptado para um Centro de Alta Complexidade em Oncologia no Brasil. Fases da Pesquisa Convergente assistencial: concepção, instrumentação, perscrutação, análise e interpretação. Essas foram correlacionadas com as etapas do Ciclo de Desenvolvimento de Programas. Idealizada Escala para categorizar os pacientes em níveis de navegação, validada pela Técnica de Delphi, com 12 especialistas. Resultados: no diagnóstico definiu-se pacientes com câncer de cabeça e pescoço para inserção no Programa de Navegação. Planejamento e implantação ocorreram simultaneamente, permitindo realizar o desenho da formatação básica do programa e seus processos. Escala de Avaliação de Necessidade de Navegação elaborada com a finalidade de selecionar o paciente para ingressar no Programa e determinar o suporte recomendado. A validação escala teve índice de consenso de 96,42%. Avaliação das etapas do ciclo ocorreram através do ciclo Plan/Do/Check/Act adaptado. Conclusão: um Programa de Navegação adaptado à realidade brasileira foi desenvolvido, bem como, as atribuições dos navegadores.

Resumo O artigo tem por objetivo identificar os traços da política da administração Donald Trump para o Tribunal Penal Internacional (TPI). A retomada de uma política hostil dirigida ao mecanismo - levada a cabo durante o segundo ano do governo de George W. Bush - é interpretada à luz de estudos anteriores que diagnosticaram um consenso entre governos democratas e republicanos sobre a estratégia mais geral dos Estados Unidos para os instrumentos de justiça criminal internacional.

Abstract The article aims to identify the traits of Donald Trump’s administration policy for the International Criminal Court (ICC). The resumption of a W. Bush´s hostile policy directed at the mechanism is interpreted in the light of previous studies which have diagnosed a consensus between Democratic and Republican governments on a more general strategy of the United States for international criminal justice instruments.

Resumo O objetivo deste estudo foi determinar a frequência e os fatores associados a Toxoplasma gondii em equídeos naturalmente infectados no Nordeste do Brasil. Amostras de soro de 569 equídeos (528 cavalos, 8 asnos e 33 muares) foram submetidas a reação de imunofluorescência indireta. Modelos lineares generalizados foram utilizados na avaliação dos fatores associados. Dos 569 animais amostrados, 118 (30,6%) soropositivos eram de área rural e 14 (26,42%) perteciam a áreas urbanas (p>0,05). Observaram-se animais soropositivos em 95% das fazendas e em todos os municípios. Asininos/muares como hospedeiro, presença de gatos domésticos e ratos na fazenda, ingestão de água de lagoa e criação de caprinos permaneceram no modelo final como fatores associados à infecção. Medidas de prevenção, como evitar a presença de gatos domésticos próximos aos locais de criação, de pastejo e fontes de água dos animais, devem ser adotadas. A ampla distribuição de animais positivos sinaliza a possibilidade de infecção também em outros animais domésticos, bem como em humanos pelo ambiente contaminado. Ressalta-se a possibilidade de que asininos e muares permaneçam com títulos detectáveis por mais tempo, justificando a prevalência encontrada, sendo necessários estudos para confirmar este possibilidade.

Abstract The aim of this study was to determine the frequency and factors associated with Toxoplasma gondii in naturally infected equids in northeastern Brazil. Serum samples from 569 equids (528 horses, 8 mules and 33 donkeys) were subjected to the indirect fluorescent antibody test. Generalized linear models were used to evaluate associated factors. Among the 569 animals sampled, 118 (30.6%) living in rural areas and 14 (26.42%) in urban areas were seropositive (p>0.05). Seropositive animals were observed on 95% of the farms and in all the municipalities. Donkeys/mules as the host, presence of domestic cats and rats on the farm, ingestion of lagoon water and goat rearing remained in the final model as factors associated with infection. Preventive measures such as avoiding the presence of domestic cats close to rearing areas, pastures and sources of water for the animals should be adopted. The wide-ranging distribution of positive animals also indicated that infection in other domestic animals and in humans, through the contaminated environment, was possible. It should be highlighted that there was the possibility that donkeys and mules would continue to have detectable titers for longer, thus explaining the prevalence found. Further studies are needed to confirm this possibility.

Resumo Discute-se a difusão das práticas de parto natural por meio da análise dos livros Parto natural: guia para os futuros pais, escrito pelo obstetra americano Frederick Goodrich Jr. em 1950 e publicado no Brasil a partir de 1955, e Parto natural sem dor, escrito pelo obstetra brasileiro George Beutner, em 1962. Ambos tiveram boa entrada na cultura brasileira e influenciaram a forma de pensar o parto e de parir, tanto no âmbito da obstetrícia brasileira como no que concerne às representações das mulheres. A partir das contribuições de Roger Chartier e das concepções sobre medicalização, concluímos que essas novas práticas de preparação do parto compartilhavam as visões médicas sobre o parto e o nascimento predominantes no período.

Abstract The article explores the dissemination of natural childbirth practices through an analysis of the books Parto natural: guia para os futuros pais, written by U.S. obstetrician Frederick Goodrich Jr. in 1950, under the title Natural Childbirth: a manual for expectant parents, and first published in Brazil in 1955, and of Parto natural sem dor, written by Brazilian obstetrician Beutner in 1962. Both books found a place in Brazilian culture and influenced thinking about childbirth and delivery in the field of Brazilian obstetrics and in representations of women. Based on Roger Chartier’s contributions and on concepts of medicalization, we conclude that these new practices for childbirth preparation shared the period’s prevalent medical views of childbirth and delivery.

Abstract INTRODUCTION: Leishmaniasis is a complex vector-borne infectious diseases caused by protozoan parasites in the genus Leishmania and spread by hematophagous phlebotomine sand flies (Diptera: Psychodidae, Phlebotominae). The aim of this study was to investigate the phlebotomine fauna, endophily and exophily of the species found, and possible influence of climatic factors on their populations. METHODS: The study was conducted in the Xakriabá Indigenous Reserve (XIR) in the municipality of São João das Missões in northern Minas Gerais state, Brazil. Insects were collected over three consecutive nights in the last week of each month for 12 months from July 2015 to May 2016 from four houses in four different villages. Two traps were set up in each house: one in the intra-domicile and another in the peri-domicile. RESULTS: A total of 2,012 phlebotomine sand fly specimens representing 23 species and belonging to 10 different genera were captured and identified. Among the studied villages, Riacho do Brejo showed the highest density and diversity of phlebotomine sand flies. The species Lutzomyia longipalpis (80.3%) and Nyssomyia intermedia (7.3%), which are major vectors of visceral and cutaneous leishmaniasis, respectively, had the highest population densities, both in the intra- and peri-domicile. No correlation was observed between climatic factors and the density of phlebotomine sand flies. CONCLUSIONS: The results of the present study may contribute to a better understanding and targeting of the measures for preventing and controlling leishmaniasis by the authorities responsible for indigenous health.
