Abstract: Framework: Over the last 20 years, the use of the Internet to replace face-to-face interviews in qualitative research has become an important resource for the production of data on illness experiences. With the recommended social isolation from COVID-19, the transition from face-to-face to online interviews conducted through virtual platforms grew and provoked reflections and necessary adaptations in the methodology. Objectives/Organization of the chapter: Based on a narrative literature review, the advantages and limitations of the online method/technique were traced, and then four examples are presented from the Narrare-COVID 19 Project, an innovative proposal for virtual sharing of narratives illness and care experiences experienced by patients, families, and professionals, produced through qualitative research with the HERG method - Health Experiences Research Group - developed by the University of Oxford. Final considerations: The four examples have a common main objective and the online interviews presented, therefore, similarities in relation to ethical care, the interview script, and the commitment of the audiovisual record, when authorized by the participant. There were differences in relation to recruitment strategies and availability of infrastructure available to respondents, with regard to access to the internet and/or the platform (Zoom® and Google Meet®). The examples illustrate and confirm the contributions and limitations of the online interviews highlighted in the narrative review.

Resumo: Enquadramento: Nos últimos 20 anos, a utilização da Internet em substituição à entrevista face a face em pesquisas qualitativas vem se tornando importante recurso de produção de dados sobre experiências de adoecimento. Com o isolamento social recomendado frente a COVID-19, a transição da forma presencial para as entrevistas online realizadas através de plataformas virtuais, cresceu e provocou reflexões e adaptações necessárias na metodologia. Objetivos/Organização do capítulo: A partir de uma revisão narrativa de literatura foram traçadas as vantagens e limitações do método/técnica online e, em seguida, são apresentados quatro exemplos a partir do Projeto Narrare-COVID 19, proposta inovadora de compartilhamento virtual de narrativas de adoecimento e experiências de cuidado vivenciadas por pacientes, familiares, e profissionais, produzidas através de pesquisa qualitativa com o método HERG - Health Experiences Research Group - desenvolvido pela Universidade de Oxford. Considerações finais: Os quatro exemplos têm um objetivo principal comum e as entrevistas online apresentaram, portanto, similaridades em relação aos cuidados éticos, ao roteiro de entrevista e ao compromisso do registro audiovisual, quando autorizado pelo participante. Houve diferenças em relação às estratégias de recrutamento e disponibilidade de infraestrutura disponível aos entrevistados, no que tange ao acesso à internet e/ou a plataforma (Zoom® e Google Meet®). Os exemplos ilustram e confirmam as contribuições e limitações das entrevistas online apontadas na revisão narrativa.

RESUMO Objetivos: analisar as iniciativas sociais governamentais voltadas para as pessoas com tuberculose e as possibilidades de acesso aos programas sociais governamentais e de transferência de renda, na percepção dos gestores de programas de tuberculose. Métodos: estudo descritivo, qualitativo, com 19 gestores de Belém, Recife, Campo Grande e Rio de Janeiro. Utilizou-se a análise de conteúdo temática. Resultados: não há suporte social governamental específico para pessoas com tuberculose; os benefícios são destinados às pessoas em vulnerabilidade social. Existem parcerias entre as instituições da rede social secundária da saúde, assistência social e instituições comunitárias. Considerações Finais: o apoio das instâncias oficiais é importante para o controle da tuberculose, contudo o perfil de vulnerabilidade das pessoas é fator determinante para o acesso ao/destinação dos recursos desses programas governamentais de apoio social.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to analyze government social initiatives aimed at people with tuberculosis and the possibilities of access to government social programs and income transfers through the perception of tuberculosis program managers. Methods: descriptive, qualitative study with 19 managers from Belém, Recife, Campo Grande, and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Thematic content analysis was used. Results: there is no specific government social support for people with tuberculosis; the benefits are intended for people in social vulnerability. There are partnerships between the institutions of the secondary social healthcare network, social assistance, and community institutions. Final Considerations: the support of official bodies is important for the control of tuberculosis; however, the profile of people’s vulnerability is a determining factor for access to/destination of resources from these government social support programs.

RESUMEN Objetivos: analizar las iniciativas sociales gubernamentales dirigidas a las personas con tuberculosis y las posibilidades de acceso a los programas sociales gubernamentales y de transferencia de renta, en la percepción de los gestores de programas de tuberculosis. Métodos: estudio descriptivo, cualitativo, con 19 gestores de Belém, Recife, Campo Grande y Rio de Janeiro. Se utilizó el análisis de contenido temático. Resultados: no hay soporte social gubernamental específico para personas con tuberculosis; los beneficios son destinados a las personas en vulnerabilidad social. Hay colaboraciones entre las instituciones de la red social secundaria de salud, asistencia social e instituciones comunitarias. Consideraciones Finales: el apoyo de las instancias oficiales es importante para el control de la tuberculosis, con todo el perfil de vulnerabilidad de las personas es factor determinante para el acceso al/destinación de los recursos de esos programas gubernamentales de apoyo social.

Abstract The growth, sexual maturity and fertility-related parameters related of young Nellore bulls with divergent residual feed intake (RFI) raised on pasture were evaluated. After classification of 48 young males as low and high RFI (more and less efficient, respectively), the animals were evaluated for growth and reproductive parameters at 28-day intervals from 14.3 to 24.6 months of age. The semen was cryopreserved in the last sampling and fresh and post-thaw semen samples were evaluated. Low RFI bulls exhibited higher initial and final body weight (P < 0.05), but feed intake, body condition score and growth measures evaluated by carcass ultrasound were unaffected by RFI (P > 0.05). The scrotal circumference, sperm concentration, defects, and quality of fresh semen, and ultrasonographic testicular characteristics were unaffected by RFI (P > 0.05). However, velocity parameters such as average path and curvilinear velocities determined by computer-assisted sperm analysis of thawed semen submitted to the rapid thermoresistance test were improved (P < 0.05) in low RFI bulls, but this improvement in quality did not enhance in vitro sperm fertilizing ability. Our results demonstrated significant differences in metabolism and growth performance between bulls of divergent RFI. In addition, there was slight improvement in the semen quality of bulls with low RFI bulls, but this did not enhance in vitro fertilizing ability. Selection of beef bulls for RFI can be performed, which will result in economic benefits by improving the growth performance of the animals without affecting reproductive parameters.

RESUMO Objetivo Estimar a prevalência de dor crônica (DC) na população adulta residente na cidade de São Paulo, Brasil, e assim identificar os fatores associados com DC em países em desenvolvimento. Método Estudo transversal utilizando entrevista por telefone auxiliada por computador em duas etapas numa amostra estratificada de adultos domiciliados em São Paulo. Resultados 2446 indivíduos foram entrevistados. A média de idade foi 39,8 anos. A maioria foi do sexo feminino e 42,7% tinham menos de 10 anos de escolaridade. A prevalência de DC foi de 28,1%. Os fatores independentes associados à DC foram gênero feminino (OR = 2,0; p < 0,001), idade superior que 65 anos (OR = 1,4; p = 0,019) e menor que 15 anos de escolaridade (OR = 1,3-1,6; p < 0,04). Conclusão A prevalência de DC foi alta e próxima à reportada em países desenvolvidos. Estes resultados irão auxiliar profissionais de saúde e gestores a realizarem programas de avaliação e tratamento de dor crônica mais ajustados à realidade local.

ABSTRACT Objective To estimate the prevalence of chronic pain (CP) in the adult population living in the city of São Paulo, Brazil, and to identify factors associated with CP in developing countries. Methods A cross-sectional study using a computer-assisted telephone interview in a two-stage stratified sample of adults living in households. Results 2,446 subjects were interviewed. The mean age was 39.8 years old. The majority was female and 42.7% had less than 10 years of education. The prevalence of CP was 28.1%. The independent factors associated with CP were female gender (OR = 2.0; p < 0.001), age older than 65 years (OR = 1.4; p = 0.019) and less than 15 years of education (OR = 1.3-1.6; p < 0.04). Conclusions The prevalence of CP was high and similar to that which has been reported in developed countries. These results raise awareness about CP and may potentially help clinicians and policy makers to design better health care programs for CP treatment in these populations.

INTRODUÇÃO: Os vírus linfotrópicos de células T humanas 1 e 2 (HTLV-1/2) são endêmicos no Brasil e são testados nos serviços de transfusão desde 1993. Este estudo avaliou a evolução da prevalência do HTLV-1 e 2 em doadores de sangue da Hemominas, de 1993 a 2007, bem como sua distribuição geográfica no Estado de Minas Gerais, Brasil. MÉTODOS: A Hemominas é um serviço transfusional centralizado em Minas Gerais, Brasil. As fontes de dados foram o Boletim Técnico da Fundação Hemominas, e os dados informatizados do laboratório central de sorologia. Os doadores foram testados no período utilizando ensaio enzimático (ELISA), seguido de Western blot, para confirmação, se repetidamente reagentes. Os dados foram analisados utilizando EPIINFO 6.2 e TABWIN 3.5. RESULTADOS: A prevalência media no período 1993-2007 foi de 0,1%. Houve declínio contínuo de 0,4% em 1993 para menos de 0,1% de 2002 em diante, com um pico transitório de 0,5% em 1994. A distribuição do HTLV foi assimétrica, com alternância de regiões de alta e baixa prevalências. A comparação entre doadores positivos e negativos mostrou que a idade aumenta a positividade para o vírus. A OR para idade variou de 1,43 (30 a 39 anos) a 3,09 (50 a 65 anos). As mulheres tiveram chance maior de ser positivas (OR-1,64), como descrito anteriormente. CONCLUSÕES: As possíveis explicações para o declínio do HTLV-1/2 foram a exclusão de doadores positivos, aumento nos doadores de repetição, e melhora nos testes de ELISA, com redução do número de testes falso positivos.

INTRODUCTION: Human T cell lymphotropic virus types 1 and 2 (HTLV-1/2) are endemic in Brazil and are screened for in transfusion services since 1993. This study evaluated the evolution of the prevalence of HTLV-1 and 2 in blood donors of the Hemominas Foundation from 1993 to 2007, and its geographical distribution in State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. METHODS: The Hemominas Foundation is a centralized blood center in Minas Gerais, Brazil. The sources of data were the Hemominas Foundation Technical Bulletin and files from the centralized serological laboratory. Donors were tested in the period using enzyme linked immuno sorbent assays (ELISA), followed by Western blot, when repeatedly reactive. The data were analyzed by EPIINFO 6.2 and TABWIN 3.5 softwares. RESULTS: The average seroprevalence in the period 1993-2007 was 0.1%. A steady decline occurred from 0.4% in 1993 to below 0.1% in 2002 and later, with a transient peak of 0.5% in 1994. HTLV reactivity distribution was asymmetrical in the state, with regions of higher prevalence, interspersed with low prevalence areas. Comparison of positive and negative donors verified that increasing age was proportional to virus positivity. Odds ratio for age ranged from 1.43 (30 to 39 years-old) to 3.09 (50 to 65 years-old). Women had a greater chance of being positive (OR-1.64), as previously described. CONCLUSIONS: Possible explanations for HTLV-1/2 prevalence decline are the exclusion of positive donors from the donor pool, an increase in repeat donors and ELISA test improvement, with reduction in the number of false positive results.
