Abstract Dasatinib, a potent oral multi-targeted kinase inhibitor against Src and Bcr-Abl, can decrease inflammatory response in sepsis. A simple and cost-effective method for determination of an effective dose dasatinib was established. This method was validated in human plasma, with the aim of reducing the number of animals used, thus, avoiding ethical problems. Dasatinib and internal standard lopinavir were extracted from 180 uL of plasma using liquid-liquid extraction with methyl tert-butil ether, followed by liquid chromatography coupled to triple quadrupole mass spectrometry in multiple reaction monitoring mode. For the pharmacokinetic study, 1 mg/kg of dasatinib was administered to mice with and without sepsis. The method was linear over the concentration range of 1-98 ng/mL for DAS in mice and human plasma, with r2>0.99 and presented intra- and interday precision within the range of 2.3 - 6.2 and 4.3 - 7.0%, respectively. Further intra- and interday accuracy was within the range of 88.2 - 105.8 and 90.6 - 101.7%, respectively. The mice with sepsis showed AUC0-t = 2076.06 h*ng/mL and Cmax =102.73 ng/mL and mice without sepsis presented AUC0-t = 2128.46 h*ng/mL. Cmax = 164.5 ng/mL. The described analytical method was successfully employed in pharmacokinetic study of DAS in mice.

Abstract The objective of this paper was to develop and evaluate two semi-solid pharmaceutical forms containing 0.1% tacrolimus: cream (CRT01) and gel (GLT01). For the evaluation of physicochemical stability, at times 0, 30, 60 and 90 days, at 23°C and at 40°C, High Performance Liquid Chromatography coupled with a Diode Array Detector (HPLC-DAD) was employed. This method was developed and validated for tacrolimus quantification. The occlusivity test and skin permeation assay were also performed, using an animal model (Wistar rats), and the CRT01 and GLT01 were compared to the 0.1% tacrolimus ointment (PFU01) obtained from the University Pharmacy, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. CRT01 and GLT01 presented a homogeneous aspect and consistency adequate for topical products, along with sensory characteristics above PFU01. They also presented adequate physicochemical stability for 90 days and a lower occlusive effect than PFU01 (p<0.05). CRT01 showed greater affinity for the skin when compared to PFU01 and GLT01, with low systemic absorption. The CRT01 semi-solid formulation was considered the most adequate one to treat patients with atopic dermatitis or other dermatologic inflammatory diseases, promoting rational use of tacrolimus.

Abstract Composites are relevant to high-performance materials in the aerospace sector and have attracted the attention of the scientific and technological communities. Bentonites present very fine granulometry which enables their use in composites. This study showed the development of water absorbent composite based on sodium polyacrylate, bentonite coated by epoxy resin. Since there are gaps in the quantification of composite materials by near-infrared spectroscopy, especially by reflectance analysis (NIRA), this paper shows a quantification methodology (A7200/A5202) of sodium polyacrylate and bentonite. The methodology error found was 1.45% (95% of coefficient of determination). The effectiveness of the developed infrared methodology was verified showing that values are close to the nominal, especially for lower bentonite content. Besides, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and universal attenuated total reflection (UATR) analysis evidenced the coating with the epoxy resin. Such development ensures rapid and precise methodologies that can be applied to the quality control of composite materials.

Abstract The “Prof. Gabriel O. S. Porto” Center for Studies and Research in Rehabilitation (CEPRE) participated in the Professional Improvement Program (PAP) for non-medical health professionals from 1994 to 2019. This study aimed to understand and assess the occurrence of interprofessionality and the role of occupational therapy among the PAP participants working at CEPRE. This descriptive, qualitative research involved 18 interns from the areas of speech therapy, education, psychology, social service, and occupational therapy who joined PAP at CEPRE in 2018. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews that included both closed and open questions addressing experiences and insights during PAP. These interviews were audio recorded and later transcribed. The data were assessed by content analysis. The results showed that professional improvement positively influenced knowledge about other areas, especially occupational therapy, which was facilitated through interdisciplinary classes. The content analysis revealed that shared moments were important for the occurrence of patient-centered interprofessional practice with a focus on comprehensiveness, and that this space further strengthened the overall work.

Resumo O Centro de Estudos e Pesquisas em Reabilitação “Prof. Dr. Gabriel O. S. Porto” (CEPRE) participou do Programa de Aprimoramento (PAP)2 para profissionais não médicos da área da saúde entre 1994 e 2019. O objetivo deste estudo foi conhecer e verificar a ocorrência da interprofissionalidade e o papel da terapia ocupacional entre os participantes do PAP atuantes no CEPRE. Esta é uma pesquisa descritiva, qualitativa com a participação de 18 aprimorandos das áreas de fonoaudiologia, pedagogia, psicologia, serviço social e terapia ocupacional que ingressaram nos PAPs realizados no CEPRE em 2018. Os dados foram coletados por meio de entrevistas semiestruturadas, contendo perguntas fechadas e abertas, que abordaram questões referentes às experiências e vivências no PAP. Essas entrevistas foram registradas em áudio e posteriormente transcritas. Optou-se pela análise de conteúdo para examinar os dados. Os resultados apontaram que o aprimoramento profissional contribuiu positivamente para a ocorrência do conhecimento sobre outras áreas, especialmente a terapia ocupacional, oportunizado através de aulas interdisciplinares. A análise de conteúdo revelou que os momentos compartilhados foram importantes para a ocorrência da prática interprofissional centrada no paciente com enfoque na integralidade, e que esse espaço fortaleceu ainda mais o trabalho.

ABSTRACT The literature on hemodynamic responses during inspiratory muscle exercise (IME) lacks a consensus. To evaluate and compare hemodynamic responses during an IME session with and without resistive load, 15 sedentary men were subjected to two randomized IME sessions: one with 40% of maximal inspiratory pressure (IME 40%) and another without a resistive load (Sham), both of which were performed for two minutes over eight sessions with one-minute intervals. Systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), mean blood pressure (MBP), total peripheral resistance (TPR), stroke volume (SV), cardiac output (CO), and heart rate (HR) were measured by infrared digital photoplethysmography during five basal minutes and during the IME sessions. One-way analysis of variance and the Student’s t test for paired data were used to analyze hemodynamic response and delta values between sessions. Effect size was evaluated by Cohen’s D. A 5% significance level was adopted. SBP responses (sham: ∆−1±2 vs. 40%: ∆−4±2mmHg, p=0.27), DBP (sham: ∆2±1 vs. 40%: ∆1±2mmHg, p=0.60) and MBP (sham: ∆2±1 vs. 40%: ∆0±2mmHg, p=0.28) were similar between sessions. HR increases were higher in the 40% IME session than in the sham session (sham: ∆9±2 vs. 40%: ∆3±2bpm, p=0.001). SV only decreased during the sham session but responses were similar between sessions (sham: ∆−2±2 vs. IME 40%: ∆−6±2ml, p=0.13). Both sessions did not change SBP, DBP, MBP, CO, and TPR, but we observed a greater increase in HR in the IME 40% session. Only the Sham session decreased SV.

RESUMEN No hay consenso en la literatura sobre las respuestas hemodinámicas durante el ejercicio muscular inspiratorio (EMI). El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar y comparar las respuestas hemodinámicas durante una sesión de EMI con y sin carga resistiva. Para ello, quince hombres sedentarios recibieron dos sesiones aleatorias de EMI: el 40% de la presión inspiratoria máxima (EMI 40%) y sin carga resistiva (sham), realizadas durante dos minutos, ocho sesiones y a intervalos de un minuto. La presión arterial sistólica (PAS), la presión arterial diastólica (PAD), la presión arterial media (PAM), la resistencia periférica total (RPT), el volumen sistólico (VS), el gasto cardíaco (GC) y la frecuencia cardíaca (FC) se midieron mediante fotopletismografía infrarroja digital durante cinco minutos al inicio y durante las sesiones de EMI. Se utilizaron ANOVA unidireccional y la prueba t de Student a datos emparejados para analizar la respuesta hemodinámica y los valores delta entre las sesiones. El tamaño del efecto se evaluó por el d de Cohen. El nivel de significancia adoptado fue de 5%. Las respuestas de PAS (sham: Δ−1±2 vs. 40%: ∆−4±2mmHg, p=0,27), PAD (sham: ∆2±1 vs. 40%: ∆1±2mmHg, p=0,60) y PAM (sham: ∆2±1 vs. 40%: ∆0±2mmHg, p=0,28) fueron similares entre las sesiones. El incremento de la FC fue mayor en la sesión de EMI 40% comparada con la sesión sham (sham: Δ9±2 vs. 40%: ∆3±2bpm, p=0,001). El VS tuvo una disminución exclusiva durante la sesión sham, pero la respuesta fue similar entre las sesiones (sham: Δ−2±2 vs. EMI 40%: ∆−6±2ml, p=0,13). Ambas sesiones no tuvieron cambios en las variables PAS, PAD, PAM, DC y RPT, pero se observó un mayor incremento de la FC en la sesión EMI 40%. Solamente en la sesión sham hubo una reducción del VS.

RESUMO A literatura carece de um consenso sobre respostas hemodinâmicas durante o exercício muscular inspiratório (EMI). Este estudo buscou avaliar e comparar as respostas hemodinâmicas durante uma sessão de EMI com e sem carga resistiva. Para tanto, 15 homens sedentários foram submetidos a duas sessões randomizadas de EMI: 40% da pressão inspiratória máxima (EMI 40%) e sem carga resistiva (sham), realizadas por dois minutos em oito sessões e com intervalos de um minuto. A pressão arterial sistólica (PAS), pressão arterial diastólica (PAD), pressão arterial média (PAM), resistência periférica total (RPT), volume sistólico (VS), débito cardíaco (DC) e frequência cardíaca (FC) foram medidos por fotopletismografia infravermelha digital por cinco minutos basais e durante as sessões de EMI. Anova de uma via e o teste t de Student para dados pareados foram usados para analisar a resposta hemodinâmica e os valores delta entre as sessões. O tamanho do efeito foi avaliado pelo d de Cohen. Adotou-se nível de significância de 5%. As respostas de PAS (sham: ∆−1±2 vs. 40%: ∆−4±2mmHg, p=0,27), PAD (sham: ∆2±1 vs. 40%: ∆1±2mmHg, p=0,60) e PAM (sham: ∆2±1 vs. 40%: ∆0±2mmHg, p=0,28) foram semelhantes entre as sessões. Os aumentos da FC foram maiores na sessão de EMI 40% do que nas sessões sham (sham: ∆9±2 vs. 40%: ∆3±2bpm, p=0,001). O VS diminuiu exclusivamente durante a sessão sham mas a resposta foi semelhante entre as sessões (sham: ∆−2±2 vs. EMI 40%: ∆−6±2ml, p=0,13). Ambas as sessões não causaram alteração nas variáveis PAS, PAD, PAM, DC e RPT, mas notamos um aumento maior da FC na sessão EMI 40%. Apenas a sessão sham reduziu o VS.

Resumo: Durante a embriogênese e deposição de reservas, sementes em desenvolvimento apresentam metabolismo fortemente ativo, enquanto na fase de dessecação de sementes tolerantes é esperado metabolismo reduzido. Sementes de Poincianella pluviosa apresentam um ciclo de maturação extenso (11 meses), maior que sua longevidade à temperatura ambiente (8 meses). O perfil metabólico dessas sementes foi caracterizado durante a maturação e secagem, enfocando seus papéis no comportamento das sementes após dispersão. Respostas distintas de eixos embrionários e cotilédones à secagem foram observadas dependendo do estádio de desenvolvimento. Baixas proporções de intermediários de ácidos tricarboxílicos até a maturidade indicaram um baixo metabolismo respiratório anterior à fase de dessecação. Mudanças nas proporções de chiquimato, 4-cumarato e quinato sugerem uma alteração metabólica em direção a síntese de isômeros clorogenatos, encontrados em altas proporções em sementes dispersas. Altas proporções de lactato e glicerol foram observadas em sementes imaturas após secagem artificial, mas também em eixos naturalmente secos de sementes dispersas. Isso sugere um metabolismo ativo anterior à dessecação e um estresse osmótico sob hipóxia, mecanismos nunca descritos antes em sementes tolerantes à dessecação. Nossos resultados indicam que sementes de P. pluviosa podem ser dispersas com um desligamento metabólico incompleto, que pode estar relacionado à sua baixa longevidade.

Abstract: During embryogenesis and seed filling, developing seeds are metabolically highly active, while at the desiccation stage of tolerant seeds a decreased metabolism is expected. Seeds of Poincianella pluviosa present an extensive maturation cycle (11 months), longer than seed storability at room temperature (8 months). The metabolic profile of these seeds was characterized during maturation and drying, focusing in their role on seed behavior after shedding. Distinct responses of the embryonic axes and cotyledons to drying were observed depending on the developmental stage. Low proportions of tricarboxylic acids intermediaries until maturity indicated a low respiratory metabolism prior to the desiccation stage. Changes in shikimate, 4-coumarate, and quinate proportions suggest a metabolic shift towards the synthesis of chlorogenate isomers, found in high proportions in dispersed seeds. High proportions of lactate and glycerol were observed in immature seeds after artificial drying, but also in naturally dried axes of dispersed seeds. This suggests an active metabolism prior to drying and an osmotic stress under hypoxia, mechanisms that were never described before in desiccation-tolerant seeds. The results indicated that P. pluviosa seeds are dispersed with an incomplete metabolic switch-off, which can be related to their short lifespan.

ABSTRACT. The objective was to evaluate sowing density influence on hydroponic corn fodder bromatological composition, harvested in different ages raised on grass mix substrate. The experimental design used was completely randomized with six replications for each treatment, using 2.0 m² plots (1.0 x 2.0 m). The densities were distributed into factorial array (4x4), consisting in four sowing densities (1.0, 1.5, 2.0 and 2.5 kg m-²) and four cutting ages (10, 15, 20 and 25 days). The dry matter content (DMC) and production (DMP) and crude protein (CP), acid detergent fiber (ADF), Fiber neutral detergent (FND) and ethereal extract (EE) were analyzed each cutting age. In terms of DMP (kg m-²), EE (%) and DMC (kg m-²), it is recommended to use the density 1.0 kg m-² with cutting age of 25 days. Regarding CP (%) the best result was at 15 days of cut and density 2.5 kg m-² and the values for FND (%) and ADF (%) were higher at 25 days at 2.0 kg density 2,0 kg m-². The choice of both best harvesting age and density will depend on what is desired of the nutritional forage (CP, EE, NDF, ADF, DMC and DMP) as well its destination, since very close values were found in all analyzes, regardless of density and age of harvest analyzed.

O estudo do sistema vestibular tem avançado tanto que mesmo definições básicas, como o significado dos sintomas vestibulares, foram apenas recentemente padronizadas. Objetivo: Apresentar uma revisão dos principais assuntos da otoneurologia, inclusive conceitos, diagnóstico e tratamento da otoneurologia, definir a evidência científica atual para facilitar a tomada de decisões e demonstrar as áreas mais carentes de evidência para estimular novas pesquisas. Método: Este texto é fruto do I Fórum Brasileiro de Otoneurologia, que reuniu os principais pesquisadores brasileiros dessa área para uma revisão da literatura. Serão feitos três trabalhos de revisão a serem publicados. Este primeiro abordou as definições e as terapias, o segundo abordará as ferramentas diagnósticas e o terceiro definirá os principais diagnósticos. Cada autor fez um levantamento bibliográfico na base de dados da Lilacs, SciELO, Pubmed e Medline de um determinado assunto. O seu texto foi então submetido aos demais participantes do Fórum por 30 dias para análise. Um capítulo especial, da definição dos sintomas vestibulares, foi traduzido por serviço de tradução oficial e igualmente submetido às demais etapas do processo. Houve então uma reunião presencial em que todos os textos foram apresentados oralmente e houve uma discussão entre os participantes para a definição de um texto consensual para cada capítulo. Os textos consensuais foram então submetidos a uma revisão final por quatro professores de otoneurologia de três universidades brasileiras e, por fim, finalizado. A partir do texto completo, publicado no site da Associação Brasileira de Otorrinolaringologia e Cirurgia Cérvico-Facial, foi escrita esta versão-resumo como artigo de revisão. Resultado: O texto apresenta a tradução oficial para o português da definição dos sintomas vestibulares propostos pela Barany Society e agrupa as principais evidências científicas para cada um das principais terapias existentes para as doenças otoneurológicas. Conclusão: Este texto agrupou de forma racional os principais tópicos de conhecimento a respeito das definições e terapias da otoneurologia, permite ao leitor uma visão ampla da abordagem dos pacientes otoneurológicos baseada em evidências científicas e experiência nacional, que deverá auxiliá-lo na tomada de decisões clínicas, e mostra os assuntos mais carentes de evidência para estimular novos estudos.

Abstract Introduction: Neurotology is a rapidly expanding field of knowledge. The study of the vestibular system has advanced so much that even basic definitions, such as the meaning of vestibular symptoms, have only recently been standardized. Objective: To present a review of the main subjects of neurotology, including concepts, diagnosis and treatment of Neurotology, defining current scientific evidence to facilitate decision-making and to point out the most evidence-lacking areas to stimulate further new research. Methods: This text is the result of the I Brazilian Forum of Neurotology, which brought together the foremost Brazilian researchers in this area for a literature review. In all, there will be three review papers to be published. This first review will address definitions and therapies, the second one will address diagnostic tools, and the third will define the main diseases diagnoses. Each author performed a bibliographic search in the LILACS, SciELO, PubMed and MEDLINE databases on a given subject. The text was then submitted to the other Forum participants for a period of 30 days for analysis. A special chapter, on the definition of vestibular symptoms, was translated by an official translation service, and equally submitted to the other stages of the process. There was then a in-person meeting in which all the texts were orally presented, and there was a discussion among the participants to define a consensual text for each chapter. The consensual texts were then submitted to a final review by four professors of neurotology disciplines from three Brazilian universities and finally concluded. Based on the full text, available on the website of the Brazilian Association of Otorhinolaryngology and Cervical-Facial Surgery, this summary version was written as a review article. Result: The text presents the official translation into Portuguese of the definition of vestibular symptoms proposed by the Bárány Society and brings together the main scientific evidence for each of the main existing therapies for neurotological diseases. Conclusion: This text rationally grouped the main topics of knowledge regarding the definitions and therapies of Neurotology, allowing the reader a broad view of the approach of neurotological patients based on scientific evidence and national experience, which should assist them in clinical decision-making, and show the most evidence-lacking topics to stimulate further study.

RESUMO: Este estudo tem como objetivo discutir o “núcleo figurativo”, parte integrante da Teoria das Representações Sociais (TRS), fundamentada na Psicologia Social. O foco, aqui, é o campo educacional, na perspectiva de um olhar psicossocial para as relações educativas. O núcleo figurativo é abordado, neste texto, por meio de obras clássicas da TRS, principalmente pelo texto: A psicanálise, sua imagem e seu público, de Serge Moscovici. Avanços posteriores são também considerados, retomando-se os conceitos de “núcleo central” e de “imagem social”. A consequência das reflexões apresentadas para o estudo da objetivação da representação social é a necessária e incontornável complementariedade entre essas noções. A título de ilustração, são apresentadas duas pesquisas da área da Educação, nas quais o núcleo figurativo foi condensado em “metáforas”, as quais coordenaram os discursos dos grupos que participaram desses estudos. Este estudo propõe que o aprofundamento do núcleo figurativo é uma via fértil para as pesquisas no campo da Educação, principalmente porque permite as relações entre pensamento, práticas sociais e mudanças.

ABSTRACT: This study aims to discuss the “figurative nucleus”, which is an integral part of the Theory of Social Representations (SRT), based on Social Psychology. Here the focus is on the educational field, from the perspective of a psychosocial look at the educative relationships. The figurative nucleus is presented, in this text, through the classic works of the SRT, mainly by the text: Psychoanalysis, Its Image and Its Public, by Serge Moscovici. Subsequent advances are also considered, taking up the concepts of “central nucleus” and “social image”. The consequence of the presented reflections for the objectification of the social representation study is the necessary and unavoidable complementarity between these notions. As an illustration, two researches in the area of Education are presented, in which the figurative nucleus has been condensed into “metaphors”, which have coordinated the speeches of the groups that took part on these studies. This study proposes that the deepening of the figurative nucleus is a fecund way for the studies in the field of Education, mainly because it allows the relations between thought, social practices and changes.

ABSTRACT Ethylene-propylene-diene elastomer (EPDM) is employed as thermal insulation for rocket motors, as well as EPDM blends with ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) have been used in the aerospace industry. The quantification of these blends is more common using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometry (FT-IR) by transmission mode, but without discussing sample preparation and methodology error. Considering this fact, a methodology was developed for determining EVA content in binary blend with EPDM samples, by Universal Attenuated Total Reflection (UATR) technique, associated to thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). This last one, it was applied to determine Vinyl Acetate (VA) content in EVA and to identify differences between EPDM/EVA blends. Samples of the analyzed blends showed two VA contents and five proportions of EPDM/EVA: 90/10, 70/30, 50/50, 30/70, and 10/90. The carbonyl stretching vibration band C=O at 1740 cm-1 was used as analytical band in FT-IR quantification. Finally, the results presented excellent accuracy with a good linear correlation coefficient (R > 0.940) and with relative error values lower than 2%, respecting the precision limits of the FT-IR spectrometer.

ABSTRACT When some materials need to be characterized, the hydroxyl number (IOH) determination is especially useful, mainly for those applied in the aerospace field. Usually, this characterization is performed by wet chemistry, using methodologies involving several steps, such as derivatization. This is a time-consuming and costly step. On the other hand, when the analysis is performed by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, the most used region is the medium infrared (MIR) and transmission techniques are usually employed. However, FT-IR methodology developed error is usually not discussed. FT-IR methodology was developed in near infrared (NIR) and MIR regions, including non-conventional techniques, such as universal attenuated total reflection (UATR) and transflectance (near infrared reflection accessory [NIRA]), and transmission, to determine IOH in surfactants, used in aerospace catalysts/cosmetic products, and polyesters, applied in paints. According to the samples’ characteristics, surfactants were analyzed by transmission/solution and, as received, by NIRA. Polyesters were analyzed by UATR and NIRA, as received. The IOH values for all samples were also measured by wet chemistry and/or potentiometry (supplier’s data) and used as reference. Good linear correlations were observed between 0.939 and 0.976, being considered with good precision, and between 88% (NIRA) and 98% (MIR) of the results were explained by developed methodologies.

RESUMO Os fungicidas utilizados para o controle da ferrugem asiática da soja são constituídos por misturas entre os modos de ação sistêmicos (triazóis) e meso-sistêmicos (estrobilurinas). Entretanto, para o controle do míldio da soja, existem disponíveis apenas fungicidas protetores. Objetivou-se avaliar a eficácia de fungicidas com diferentes modos de ação no controle de míldio e ferrugem asiática da soja. Realizou-se experimento a campo, em delineamento de blocos casualizados, constituído de sete tratamentos [controle negativo; difeconazole em V7 + (azoxystrobina + ciproconazole) em R2 e R5.1; (tebuconazole + carbendazim) em V7 + (azoxystrobina + tebuconazole) em R2 e R5.1; carbendazim e mancozebe em V7 + (azoxystrobina + tebuconazole) em R2 e R5.1; (tebuconazole + carbendazim) em V7 + mancozebe em V7 + (azoxystrobina + tebuconazole) em R2 e R5.1; (tebuconazole + carbendazim) em V7 + (azoxystrobina + tebuconazole) em R2 e R5.1 + mancozebe em R2 e R5.1; (tebuconazole + carbendazim) em V7 + azoxystrobina + tebuconazole em R2 e R5.1 + mancozebe em R2 e R5.1 + carbendazim em R5.1] e quatro repetições. Os parâmetros avaliados foram: severidade das doenças baseada em escalas diagramáticas, fitotoxidez, eficácia de produtos, desfolha, número de vagens por planta, número de grãos por vagem, massa de mil grãos e produtividade. Os tratamentos com adição do mancozebe mostraram-se mais eficientes na redução da severidade de míldio e ferrugem asiática da soja e desfolha, aumentando a produtividade de grãos da cultura. Para o míldio da soja, os tratamentos com adição de mancozebe a benzimidazol, estrobilurinas e triazóis foram mais eficazes na redução da severidade e no controle.

ABSTRACT Fungicides used to control the Asian soybean rust are composed almost entirely of mixtures involving the systemic (triazoles) and meso-systemic (strobilurins) modes of action. However, to control the soybean downy mildew, only protective fungicides are available. The present study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of fungicides with different modes of action in the control of downy mildew and Asian soybean rust. A field experiment was carried out in a randomized block design, with seven treatments [negative control; difenoconazole at V7 + (azoxystrobin + cyproconazole) at R2 and R5.1; (tebuconazole + carbendazim) at V7 + (azoxystrobin + tebuconazole) at R2 and R5.1; carbendazim and mancozeb at V7 + (azoxystrobin + tebuconazole) at R2 and R5.1; (tebuconazole + carbendazim) at V7 + mancozeb in V7 + (azoxystrobin + tebuconazole) at R2 and R5.1; (tebuconazole + carbendazim) at V7 + (azoxystrobin + tebuconazole) at R2 and R5.1 + mancozeb at R2 and R5.1; (tebuconazole + carbendazim) at V7 + azoxystrobin + tebuconazole at R2 and R5.1 + mancozeb at R2 and R5.1 + carbendazim at R5.1] and four replicates. The following variables were evaluated: disease severity based on diagrammatic scales, phytotoxicity, product effectiveness, defoliation, number of pods per plant, number of seeds per pod, 1,000-seed weight and yield. The treatments with mancozeb addition showed to be more efficient in reducing the severity of mildew and Asian soybean rust and defoliation, providing increased seed yields for the crop. For the soybean downy mildew, the treatments with addition of mancozeb to benzimidazole, strobilurins and triazoles were more efficient in reducing the severity and for the control.

Abstract Rubber blends are important materials in automotive industry, as well as in other sectors. However, there are implications when suitable use of a polymer in an artifact is not made. In the automotive area, for example, the use of an elastomer without the fuel resistance requirement would result in component degradation, potential fuel leakage, and danger of fire. The use of polymer blends may be the solution to this problem. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) can be used for the knowledge of the polymer content of these blends. Then, FT-IR quantitative methodologies for determining acrylonitrile-butadiene copolymer (NBR) copolymer and butadiene-styrene copolymer (SBR) contents were developed by the transflectance accessory, NIRA, and the transmission mode, being the sample analyzed by transmission and universal attenuated total reflection (UATR) in the medium infrared (MIR). UATR and NIRA methodologies showed better accuracy. However, the MIR analysis showed a detection limit between 10-20% of NBR.

Abstract The bicomponent fibers are a special class of fibers that consolidate two polymers in only one fiber in order to explore individual properties of each polymer and can be designed in a spatial configuration that allows the enhancement in application of this material. Thereby, an appropriate characterization of bicomponent fibers is very valuable to process monitoring, quality control and forensic investigation. The sheath-core bicomponent fiber composed by polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP) and titanium dioxide (TiO2) was analyzed by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and other analytical methodologies. Results obtained by FT-IR using modern accessories showed efficiency to characterize the polymers of sheath (PE) and core (PP), moreover these polymers were confirmed by DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimetry). The morphology and elemental composition were also studied by scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM/EDS). The thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and colorimetric analysis allowed characterize and quantify the concentration of TiO2.

Abstract The paint industry requires rapid and accurate methodologies of raw materials qualitiy controls. For example, the evaluation of the suitable ratio of binary mixtures of polymer/plasticizer such as nitrocellulose (NC)/acetyl tributyl citrate (ATBC) must be done, since this ratio is directly related to the performance of the final product. However, there is a small number of quantitative methodologies of such control in the literature. In this context, in this paper, the applicability of Infrared Fourier Transform Spectroscopy (FT-IR) techniques by using universal total attenuated reflection (UATR), in the middle infrared (MIR), and the reflectance analysis in the near infrared region (NIRA) is evaluated for the quantification of plasticizer ATBC in mixtures with NC. MIR and NIR methodologies presented good results such as: practicality of not requiring refined sample preparation, analysis time about 30 min and good accuracy, suitable data for using in the quality control laboratories of paint industry.
