RESUMO Os dados genealógicos compreenderam 45.711 animais nascidos entre 1901 e 2016, com 48.127 animais no arquivo de pedigree. A estrutura populacional foi analisada em termos de completude de pedigree, coeficiente de endogamia individual (F), intervalo de geração (L), taxa de endogamia (ΔF), tamanho efetivo da população (Ne), número efetivo de fundadores (ff) e número efetivo de ancestrais (fa). O rebanho consistia inicialmente de 13 touros e 14 vacas, e houve variações no número de touros e vacas selecionados ao longo do período analisado, com 2.575 touros, 13.691 vacas e 45.711 nascimentos registrados no final de 2016. No total, 48,81% das vacas tiveram apenas uma progênie. A maioria das barragens (47,59%) tinha entre três e sete anos, com média de L na população de 7,9 anos. De acordo com os resultados, 52,75% das vacas, 44,92% dos touros e 63,71% dos bezerros da raça Guzerá na região Norte do Brasil apresentaram algum grau de endogamia, com coeficientes de pequena magnitude (0,56, 0,83 e 0,71% para vacas, touros e bezerros, respectivamente). Essa flutuação não impediu a evolução genética do rebanho na região. O tamanho efetivo da população não parece comprometer a manutenção da variabilidade genética na raça.

ABSTRACT Genealogical data comprised 45,711 animals born between 1901 and 2016, with 48,127 animals in the pedigree file. Population structure was analyzed in terms of pedigree completeness, individual inbreeding coefficient (F), generation interval (L), rate of inbreeding (ΔF), effective population size (Ne), effective number of founders (ff), and effective number of ancestors (fa). The herd initially consisted of 13 bulls and 14 cows, and there were variations in the number of selected bulls and cows throughout the analyzed period, with 2,575 bulls, 13,691 cows, and 45,711 births recorded at the end of 2016. In total, 48.81% of the cows had only one progeny. Most dams (47.59%) were between three and seven years old, with a mean L in the population of 7.9 years. According to the results, 52.75% of the cows, 44.92% of the bulls, and 63.71% of the calves of the Guzerat breed in the northern region of Brazil showed some degree of inbreeding, with small-magnitude coefficients (0.56, 0.83, and 0.71% for cows, bulls, and calves, respectively). This fluctuation did not hinder the genetic evolution of the herd in the region. The effective population size does not seem to compromise the maintenance of genetic variability in the breed.

Resumo: Este estudo teve como objetivo atualizar a taxonomia de Phyllanthaceae Martinov na Mata Atlântica do Nordeste brasileiro, através da análise de aproximadamente 200 espécimes depositados nos herbários da região e observação das espécies em campo. Foram registradas 35 espécies, pertencentes a sete gêneros: Amanoa Aubl. (1 espécie), Astrocasia B.L. Rob. & Millsp. (1), Discocarpus Klotzsch (1), Hieronyma Allemão (2), Margaritaria L.f. (1), Phyllanthus L. (29), e Richeria Vahl (1). Das 35 espécies, seis são novos registros para Alagoas, dois para o Rio Grande do Norte, quatro para Paraíba e seis para Sergipe. Dentre as espécies registradas, 18 são endêmicas do Brasil, destas, onze são endêmicas do Nordeste e nove são exclusivas da Mata Atlântica. São fornecidos chave de identificação, comentários taxonômicos, fenológicos e de distribuição geográfica, bem como o status de conservação das espécies. Além disso, são apresentados mapas de distribuição e ilustrações das espécies.

Abstract: The taxonomy of Phyllanthaceae Martinov in the Atlantic Forest of northeastern Brazil was updated through the analysis of approximately 200 specimens deposited in regional herbaria as well as field observations. Thirty-five species were recorded, belonging to seven genera: Amanoa Aubl. (1 species), Astrocasia B.L. Rob. & Millsp. (1), Discocarpus Klotzsch (1), Hieronyma Allemão (2), Margaritaria L.f. (1), Phyllanthus L. (28), and Richeria Vahl (1). Of the 35, six are new records for Alagoas State, two for Rio Grande do Norte, four for Paraíba, and six for Sergipe. Among the recorded species, 18 are endemic to Brazil, and of those, 11 are endemic to the Brazilian northeast and nine are exclusive to the Atlantic Forest. An identification key, comments on their taxonomy, phenology and geographic distributions, species conservation status, distribution maps, and illustrations of the species are provided.

Abstract Fibrinolytic enzymes are considered promising alternative in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases by preventing fibrin clots. A protease from Mucor subtilissimus UCP 1262 was obtained by solid state fermentation and purified by ion exchange chromatography. The purified extract was administered at an acute dose of 2000 mg/mL to evaluate its toxic effects to the lungs of mice. After 14 days of treatment, a histomorphometric study was performed by the type 1 and 2 pneumocyte count and the evaluation of the lung area. As result, the experimental group showed a significant decrease of type 2 pneumocyte and although a decrease in the alveolar area was observed in relation to the control group, no significant pulmonary toxicity, emphysema, and fibrosis characteristics were detected. The in vitro tests suggest possible clinical applications for the enzyme.

RESUMO: A colonoscopia é uma técnica pouco invasiva utilizada para avaliação do intestino grosso por meio de inspeção direta da mucosa intestinal. Quando associada ao exame histopatológico, com a coleta de fragmentos do intestino, o diagnóstico definitivo pode ser obtido. O objetivo desse estudo retrospectivo foi associar os achados de exames de colonoscopia e histopatologia do intestino grosso e íleo em 54 cães com distúrbios gastrointestinais dos Hospitais Veterinários da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG) e São Francisco de Assis. Na colonoscopia, as alterações mais frequentemente observadas foram edema, friabilidade e avermelhamento de mucosa. Quanto à distribuição de lesões por segmento intestinal, houve maior incidência de alterações inflamatórias, das quais foram as mais frequentes, com o infiltrado linfoplasmocitário sendo o mais comum em todos segmentos analisados (i.e. reto, cólon, ceco e íleo). O cólon ascendente e o reto foram os locais de alterações mais frequentes na colonoscopia e na histopatologia. Os pólipos hiperplásicos e o linfoma foram as lesões proliferativas de ocorrência mais comum. Houve baixa concordância entre as classificações por natureza e intensidade dos achados na colonoscopia e histopatologia. Assim, não foi possível associar alterações descritas nos exames histopatológicos quanto à natureza e intensidade das lesões utilizando a colonoscopia, o que leva à conclusão de que é essencial a realização de biópsias em todos os exames para conclusão diagnóstica.

ABSTRACT: Colonoscopy is a minimally invasive technique used to assess the large intestine through direct inspection of the intestinal mucosa. When associated with histopathological examination of fragments collected from the intestine, the definitive diagnosis can be obtained. This retrospective study evaluated colonoscopy and histopathological exams of the large intestine and ileum of dogs with gastrointestinal disorders admitted at the Veterinary Hospital of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) and the Veterinary Hospital São Francisco de Assis to determine the frequency of injuries, their distribution in the intestinal segments, and the relationship of the findings observed in these two analyzes. The colonoscopy and histopathological findings of the case series were described using absolute and relative frequencies, as well as nature and intensity classification of the findings. Cohen’s Kappa coefficient was obtained to assess the concordance of nature and intensity classifications between colonoscopy and histopathology, and its 95% confidence interval constructed. The analyses were performed using the Software SAS University Edition. It was observed a moderate agreement between the classification of the nature of the findings by endoscopy and histopathology (Kappa coefficient = 0.39, CI = 0.20-0.59). This can also be observed when assessing the frequency of similar diagnoses between the methods, since only 39 (72.22%) were consistent, i.e., 15 (22.78%) diagnoses differed depending on the nature of the finding, which could have a great influence on the final diagnosis if histopathology was disregarded. For the intensity of the injuries, little agreement was observed between the methods (Kappa coefficient = 0.1243, C = -0.05-0.30). This was even more evident in the frequency of similar diagnoses in terms of intensity, of which 20 (37.04%) were similar and 34 (62.96%) were different. Inflammatory affections are the most frequently observed alterations in the large intestine and ileum of dogs. The most common finding that reveals inflammatory changes is the lymphoplasmacytic infiltrate. As for the proliferative and neoplastic lesions, adenomatous polyps and lymphoma were common. The most affected sites of the large intestine were the descending colon and the rectum. Findings such as edema and reddening of the mucosa were frequent by macroscopy. Although the changes observed by colonoscopy and histopathology may not be similar, these techniques are complementary, which makes biopsies mandatory for a diagnostic conclusion.

ABSTRACT Cheese whey is a nutritious byproduct in the dairy industry, however, due to low commercial value, its use as a milk adulterant is a common practice not easily detected by routine analysis. In Brazil, quantification of caseinomacropeptide (CMP) index, using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), is officially used to investigate illegal cheese whey addition to milk. Milk with CMP index above 30mg/L is considered not suitable for human consumption. The objective of this research was to report the CMP index in 185 samples of pasteurized milk, representing 73 commercial brands produced in 51 counties and ten mesoregions of the state of Minas Gerais, from 2011 to 2013 (58 samples) and 2015 to 2017 (127 samples). CMP index was considered normal (up to 30mg/L) in 75.1% of the samples. However, 21.1% presented CMP index above 75mg/L and 3.8% from 31 to 75mg/L. CMP index above 75mg/L was found in 17.4% of the samples produced during the dry season (April to September) and in 24.7% during the rainy season (October to March). These data point to the need of more efficient monitoring and inspection processes to hinder adulteration with cheese whey addition to milk.

RESUMO O objetivo deste trabalho foi analisar as leituras de composição do leite cru por meio de espectrofotometria FTIR, utilizando-se curva de regressão PLS, bem como as contagens de células somáticas e bacteriana total por citometria de fluxo, após adição de amido e sacarose. O leite cru foi adulterado com três concentrações de amido e sacarose (0,1%, 0,5% e 1%), colocado em frascos contendo bronopol ou azidiol, os quais foram armazenados em duas temperaturas (7±2°C e 25±2°C ). As análises foram realizadas após zero, três, 24, 48, 72 e 168 horas de armazenamento. O modelo de regressão linear múltipla foi utilizado para análise estatística. A adição de amido e sacarose resultou em mudança significativa (P<0,05) para todas as variáveis dependentes. O leite adulterado com amido resultou em aumento nas leituras de gordura, proteína, lactose, sólidos totais (ST), sólidos não gordurosos (SNG), CCS e CBT e em diminuição das leituras de caseína, do nitrogênio ureico do leite (NUL) e do ponto de congelamento. O leite adulterado com sacarose resultou no aumento das leituras da lactose, ST, SNG e NUL, enquanto as leituras de proteína, caseína, ponto de congelamento e CCS diminuíram. Este trabalho evidencia a importância do monitoramento de adulterantes reconstituintes no leite por afetarem os resultados analíticos da qualidade do leite, obtidos por métodos eletrônicos.

RESUMO O delineamento de estratégias para a conservação genética de uma espécie requer o conhecimento de aspectos ecológicos e genéticos de suas populações. Assim, este trabalho foi realizado com o objetivo de caracterizar, por meio de marcadores isoenzimáticos, populações naturais de Cassia grandis L.f. A diversidade genética foi analisada a partir das frequências alélicas ( P ^ i j ) e dos Índices de diversidade: Heterozigose média observada ( H ^ 0 ) e esperada ( H ^ e ), número médio de alelos por loco ( A ^ ) e porcentagem de locos polimórficos ( P ^); e a estrutura genética por meio das estatísticas F de Wright. Foram estimados o fluxo gênico, o tamanho efetivo das populações e a população mínima viável a curto e longo prazo. Com base nos resultados observados pode-se concluir que as populações estudadas de C. grandis estão estruturadas, o que pode ser comprovado pela observação de alelos raros e exclusivos e da alta diversidade genética entre as mesmas.

ABSTRACT The design of strategies for genetic conservation requires knowledge of the ecologic and genetics aspects of the target species populations. This work aimed to characterize genetically natural populations of Cassia grandis L. F. using isozymes. Genetic diversity was analyzed by allele frequencies ( P ^ i j ) and the following diversity indexes: observed ( H ^ e ) and expected ( H ^ e )average heterozygosity, average number of alleles per locus ( A ^ ) and percentage of polymorphic loci ( P ^); and the genetic structure of populations by Wright's statistics. We estimated gene flow, population effective size and the minimum viable population in the short and long time. The observed results conclude that the studied populations of C. grandis are structured, which can be demonstrated by observation of rare and exclusive alleles, and high genetic diversity among them.

ABSTRACT The strangles is an infectious disease that affects horses from all ages and causes important economic losses in the equine-related business. The aim of this work was to evaluate the immunogenicity of the recombinant M protein from Streptococcus equi (rSeM) co-administered with the recombinant heat-labile enterotoxin B subunit from Escherichia coli (rLTB) in mice and horses. A total of 72 female Balb-c mice were divided into eight groups and 18 horses were divided into six groups. The animals were inoculated by intramuscular (IM) or intranasal (IN) routes with different treatments of rSeM, rLTB and/or Al(OH)3. The results obtained in both species, independent of administration routes, demonstrated that rSeM + rLTB had higher levels of specific serum immunoglobulins, however, in mucosal immunity the increase was not identified. Thus, the use of rSeM as vaccine antigen and rLTB as adjuvant can be a potential tool in the control of equine strangles.

RESUMO Objetivou-se com este estudo verificar a densidade populacional e a dinâmica do perfilhamento em dosséis de capim Marandu submetidos a estratégias de adubação nitrogenada, caracterizadas pelo fornecimento de N via ureia ou inoculante (Azospirillum brasilense). Os tratamentos foram quatro estratégias de adubação nitrogenada: sem fertilização, 80kg N/ha, inoculante (A. brasilense) e 80kg N/ha + inoculante, distribuídos em um delineamento de blocos completos ao acaso, com três repetições por tratamento. As estratégias de aporte nitrogenado foram avaliadas em seis épocas: outubro, novembro e dezembro de 2012; e janeiro, março e abril de 2013. Não foi verificada influência da dose de nitrogênio ou do inoculante sobre a taxa de aparecimento (TAP), a taxa de mortalidade (TMP), a taxa de sobrevivência (TSP) e a densidade populacional de perfilhos (DPP). No entanto, essas variáveis foram influenciadas pela época do ano. A TAP e a TSP apresentaram maiores valores no início do período experimental (outubro) e menor valor ao final do período (março a abril). A TMP e a DPP expressaram respostas opostas, com menores valores em outubro e maiores a partir de janeiro. Não houve influência do nitrogênio e do inoculante sobre a dinâmica populacional de perfilhos em capim Marandu.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study is to verify the population density and the dynamics of tillering in the Marandu palisade grass sward subjected to nitrogen (N) fertilization strategies, characterized by the N supply via urea or bacterial inoculant (Azospirillum brasilense). The treatments comprised of four nitrogen fertilization strategies: (A) Without fertilization, (B) 80 kg N/ha, (C) inoculant (A. brasilense), and (D) 80 kg N/ha + inoculant, distributed in a randomized complete block design, with three replications. The nitrogen supply strategies were evaluated during six periods: October, November, and December (2012) as well as January, March, and April (2013). The nitrogen dose or inoculant had no effect on the tiller appearance rate (TAR), tiller mortality rate (TMR), tiller survival rate (TSR), or tiller population density (TPD). However, these variables were influenced by the season. The TAR and TSR were higher at the beginning of the experimental period (October) and lower towards the end of the period (March-April), whereas, TMR and TPD exhibited the opposite behavior, with lower values in October and higher from January onward. Neither the nitrogen nor the inoculant influenced the population dynamics of the tillers in Marandu palisade grass.

Resumo A ocorrência de mixomicetos em inflorescências de Heliconia psittacorum L.f. foi pesquisada em quatro unidades de conservação situadas no Nordeste do Brasil, visando avaliar a ocupação deste microhabitat em fragmentos de Floresta Atlântica, numa faixa altitudinal de 30-750 m. Foram examinadas partes mortas de inflorescências ainda presas à planta; flores e brácteas mortas foram colhidas para montagem de câmaras-úmidas (368). Foram registrados quatro famílias, quatro gêneros e 10 espécies. Evidenciou-se preferência para substrato com pH básico e predominância de espécies calcárias (5:1). A composição da mixobiota nos fragmentos de altitudes acima de 400 m foi semelhante e diferiu significativamente da encontrada nos fragmentos de florestas de terras baixas (<100 m). Physarum compressum e Arcyria cinerea são as espécies mais características da mixobiota estudada.

Abstract The occurrence of Myxomycetes in Heliconia psittacorum L.f. inflorescences was researched within four conservation units located in Northeast Brazil, aiming at evaluating the occupation of this microhabitat in fragments of Atlantic Forest along an altitude between 30-750 m. Inflorescences attached to the plant were examined; dead flowers and bracts were collected to assemble moist chambers (368). Four families, four genera and 10 species were recorded. A preference was evidenced for a basic pH substrate and a predominance of calcareous species (5:1). The composition of the myxobiota in fragments pertaining to altitudes above 400 m was similar and differed significantly from the one found in fragments of lowland forests (<100 m). Physarum compressum and Arcyria cinerea are the most characteristic species of the studied myxobiota.

Frutose se acumula em tecidos e líquidos corporais de pacientes afetados por intolerância hereditária à frutose (HFI), doença causada pela deficiência da aldolase B. Nós investigamos o efeito da administração aguda de frutose sobre o perfil bioquímico e as atividades das enzimas do ciclo de Krebs em córtex cerebral de ratos jovens. Os ratos receberam uma administração subcutânea de NaCl (0,9 %; grupo controle) ou solução de frutose (5 μmol/g; grupo tratado). Doze ou 24 horas após a administração, os animais sofreram eutanásia e os córtices cerebrais foram isolados. Também foram coletados sangue periférico (para obtenção de soro) e líquido cefalorraquidiano (LCR) dos animais. Foi observado que os níveis de albumina diminuíram e os níveis de colesterol aumentaram no LCR dos animais 12 horas após a administração de frutose. Adicionalmente, os níveis séricos de lactato aumentaram 12 h após a administração, em comparação como grupo controle. Além disso, a atividade da malato desidrogenase aumentou no córtex cerebral do grupo tratado 24 h após administração deste carboidrato. No presente trabalho, demonstramos que a administração de frutose altera parâmetros bioquímicos em LCR e soro, bem como parâmetros bioenergéticos em córtex cerebral. Tais achados sugerem um papel para a frutose nas alterações cerebrais encontradas em pacientes com HFI.

Fructose accumulates in tissue and body fluids of patients affected by hereditary fructose intolerance (HFI), a disorder caused by the deficiency of aldolase B. We investigated the effect of acute fructose administration on the biochemical profile and on the activities of the Krebs cycle enzymes in the cerebral cortex of young rats. Rats received a subcutaneous injection of NaCl (0.9 %; control group) or fructose solution (5 μmol/g; treated group). Twelve or 24 h after the administration, the animals were euthanized and the cerebral cortices were isolated. Peripheral blood (to obtain the serum) and cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) from the animals were also collected. It was observed that albumin levels were decreased and cholesterol levels were increased in CSF of animals 12 h after the administration of fructose. In addition, serum lactate levels were increased 12 h after the administration, as compared to control group. Furthermore, malate dehydrogenase activity was increased in cerebral cortex from treated group 24 h after the administration of this carbohydrate. Herein we demonstrate that fructose administration alters biochemical parameters in CSF and serum and bioenergetics parameters in the cerebral cortex. These findings indicate a possible role of fructose on brain alterations found in HFI patients.

As veredas são fitofisionomias do bioma Cerrado, onde, no estrato arbóreo, predomina a palmeira arbórea Mauritia flexuosa L.f. - buriti, espécie considerada recurso-chave para muitos animais, que a utilizam como moradia e fonte alimentar, e também pelo próprio homem, que usa suas folhas e frutos como matéria-prima e alimento. Apesar de ocorrerem em ambientes protegidos pela legislação ambiental, ações antrópicas nas veredas têm afetado as populações do buriti, por meio da diminuição do número de indivíduos ocasionada por desmatamento, assoreamento e drenagem dessas áreas. O objetivo desse trabalho foi avaliar a morfometria de frutos e sementes de buriti oriundos de seis veredas em diferentes estágios de conservação, situadas na Área de Proteção Ambiental do Rio Pandeiros (norte de Minas Gerais). Foram amostrados, no total, 1800 frutos e sementes, que foram mensurados em comprimento, largura, espessura e peso. Para detectar diferenças das medidas morfométricas dos frutos e das sementes entre as áreas de coleta foi feita a análise de variância. Foram observadas variações nas medidas morfométricas de frutos e sementes entre as áreas de estudo, sendo que 87,5% das maiores médias ocorreram em áreas com menores intervenções antrópicas. Esse fato, possivelmente, está relacionado aos impactos ocorridos nas veredas, além das variações genéticas que podem incidir sobre os indivíduos.

'Veredas' (palm swamps) are phytophysiognomies of the 'Cerrado' biome, where the palm tree Mauritia flexuosa Lf. - buriti predominates on the tree layer; this species is considered the key resource for many animals, that use it as shelter and source of food, and also by the man who uses their leaves and fruits as raw material and food. Although, they occur in environments protected by the environmental legislation, human actions have affected the populations of 'buritis', by means of the decrease of individuals caused by deforestation, siltation and drainage of these areas. The objective of this study was to evaluate the morphometric parameters of fruits and seeds of Mauritia flexuosa from six different 'veredas' at different conservation stages, located in the Environmental Protection Area of 'Pandeiros' River (north of Minas Gerais state). In total, 1,800 fruits and seeds were sampled, they were measured in length, width and thickness and, after that, they were weighed. To detect differences in morphometric measurements of fruits and seeds among the sampling areas, the analysis of variance was done. There were differences in morphometric measurements between the studied areas, in which 87.5% of the highest averages occurred in areas with the slightest anthropic interventions. This fact is possibly related to the impacts occurred, besides the genetic variations that may fall upon the individuals.

No presente estudo, avaliaram-se os efeitos da alimentação de diferentes concentrados sobre o comportamento de ovinos. A hipótese é a de que a polpa cítrica estimularia a ruminação e reduziria o risco de ocorrência de urolitíase, podendo substituir outros concentrados. Dez ovinos adultos, mestiços da raça Santa Inês, foram distribuídos em um quadrado latino com cinco tratamentos, sendo quatro destes contendo dietas com 30% de feno de capim coast-cross e 70% dos seguintes concentrados: polpa cítrica peletizada, polpa cítrica farelada, fubá de milho e farelo de trigo, e uma dieta controle com 80% de feno e 20% de ração comercial peletizada. Após 21 dias de adaptação, a cada dieta os animais foram colocados em monitoramento visual, com registro de atividade a cada três minutos, durante 24 horas consecutivas, por meio do qual foi identificado o tempo gasto na ruminação, na ingestão de alimentos e em repouso. A posição dos animais (em pé ou deitados) também foi observada. O período diurno foi considerado entre seis e 18 horas. Para comparação entre os tratamentos, os dados foram avaliados por meio de ANOVA e do teste de Tukey. Para a avaliação circadiana e entre as posições, foi utilizado o teste t de Student. Dietas com polpa cítrica promoveram tempo de ruminação semelhante aos do grupo de controle (601, 590 e 669 min, respectivamente), mas superior ao grupo alimentado com fubá de milho (421min). A produção de saliva estimada no grupo controle (26L/d) foi maior do que nos demais grupos, e os grupos com polpa cítrica tiveram maior produção de saliva do que o grupo com fubá de milho (21L/d). Ovinos em dietas ricas em concentrados descansam mais durante a noite. Em todas as dietas, cerca de 90% da ruminação ocorreu com os animais deitados. A polpa cítrica peletizada e a farelada, e em menor grau o farelo de trigo, promoveram adequadamente a ruminação. Este concentrado pode ser utilizado como medida preventiva visando diminuir a incidência de urolitíase em rebanhos ovinos.

In this study we examined the effects of different feed concentrates on sheep behaviour. Our hypothesis was that citric pulp would stimulate rumination and be capable of replacing other concentrates traditionally used for feeding in confinement, to reduce the risk of urolithiasis. Ten adult Santa Inês sheep were distributed in a Latin square with five different diets, one control diet with 80% hay and 20% commercial feed and four diets containing 30% coast-cross hay and 70% of the following concentrates: pelleted citrus pulp, citrus pulp meal, cornmeal or wheat bran. After 21d of adaptation to each one of the five diets, the sheep were visually monitored for 24 h at 3 min intervals to record the time spent ruminating, time spent eating and time spent resting; the animals' positions (standing or lying down) were also noted. Daytime was considered to be from 06:00h to 18:00h. The data were evaluated using ANOVA, with Tukey post-hoc test or throughout Two-sample T test for circadian and position assessment. Citrus pulp diets resulted in time spent ruminating similar to the control diet (601, 590 and 669 min, respectively), but greater (P<0.05) than the cornmeal group (421min), which showed that citrus pulp generated effective rumination. The estimated saliva production in the control diet (26L) was greater than in the other groups, and was greater in the citrus pulp groups (24L/d) than cornmeal (21L/d). Feeding with cornmeal led to shorter time spent eating and time spent ruminating than all other diets. The sheep had higher time spent resting at night when fed concentrates (P<0.05). For all diets, about 90% of the time spent ruminating occurred with the animals lying down. Pelleted citrus pulp, citrus pulp meal and to a lesser degree wheat bran, led to adequate time spent ruminating. The use of citrus pulp can act as a preventive management measure to reduce the incidence of urolithiasis in sheep flocks.

O presente trabalho consiste no levantamento das espécies de Amasonia L.f. para o Brasil, com base em observações de campo e estudo de espécimes de herbários, além de fotografias de tipos e de documentação bibliográfica. Amasonia é um gênero neotropical, com distribuição na América do Sul e Antilhas. Oito espécies são reconhecidas para o gênero (A. angustifolia, A. arborea, A. calycina, A. campestris, A. hirta, A. lasiocaulos, A. obovata e A. spruceana) ocorrendo principalmente nas regiões amazônica e centro-oeste do país. Chave para a identificação, ilustrações e dados de floração e frutificação são fornecidos.

This paper, a survey of Amasonia L.f. from Brazil, was based on field observations and study of herbarium specimens, photographs of the types, besides bibliographic documentation. Amasonia is a neotropical genus, distributed in South America and Antilles. Eight species are recognized here in the genus (A. angustifolia, A. arborea, A. calycina, A. campestris, A. hirta, A. lasiocaulos, A. obovata and A. spruceana) distributed mainly in the Amazon and central-western country. A key to identify the species, illustrations and flowering and fructification periods are provided.

A proteína Kint3-4 (PKint3-4), codificadora da angiostatina, é reconhecida por sua potencialidade antiangiogênica. O presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar o efeito da proteína Kint3-4 no crescimento do tumor sólido de Ehrlich. Para isso, foram analisados a curva de desenvolvimento tumoral, o índice apoptótico e a dosagem de hemoglobina, a fim de se avaliar a angiogênese, em 20 camundongos Swiss fêmeas, inoculadas com o tumor sólido de Ehrlich em seus coxins plantares. Os resultados demonstraram a participação de PKint3-4 na indução à apoptose de células neoplásicas, na diminuição da concentração de hemoglobina e, principalmente, na diminuição do desenvolvimento tumoral. Sugere-se que a ação antitumoral, determinada pela sequência proteica utilizada, possa estar associada ao papel antiangiogênico da angiostatina, que indiretamente aumentaria o índice apoptótico das células neoplásicas, e/ou a uma ação direta da proteína Kint3-4 sobre essas células, estimulando-as a sofrerem apoptose.
