RESUMO: O caráter stay-green tem sido relacionado à maior tolerância a estresses e a produtividade pela manutenção mais prolongada do aparato fotossintético. A relação deste caráter com a produtividade de grãos talvez esteja associada a uma rede de características que não somente a massa de grãos. O objetivo do estudo é trazer à luz a real contribuição do caráter stay-green em trigos brasileiros, na relação entre os caracteres definidores da produtividade de grãos, em diferentes condições de ambiente. O experimento foi conduzido em delineamento experimental de blocos casualizados com três repetições, nos anos de 2003, 2004 e 2005. Foram avaliadas linhagens-irmãs com presença e ausência do caráter stay-green, analisando a correlação fenotípica e trilha separadamente por ano e grupo de maturação. Em condições favoráveis de cultivo, a contribuição do caráter stay-green em trigo se dá pelo aumento da fertilidade de espiga, incrementando o número de grãos. Num cenário mais restritivo, favorece a massa de grãos pelo maior tempo de enchimento no final do ciclo.

ABSTRACT: The stay-green character has been related to greater stress tolerance and yield through longer activity of the photosynthetic apparatus. Association of this character with grain yield may be linked to a network of features other than the grain mass. This study aimed to shed light on the actual contribution of stay-green character in Brazilian wheats and the associations between grain yield components in different environmental conditions. The experiment was conducted in a randomized block design with three replications in the years 2003, 2004 and 2005. Sibling lines with and without the stay-green character were evaluated analyzing the phenotypic correlation and path analysis separately by year and maturity group. Under favorable growing conditions, the contribution of stay-green character in wheat is obtained by the increased ear fertility and number of grains. In a more restrictive scenario, it favors an increase in grain mass by longer filling time at the end of the cycle.

RESUMO O presente estudo objetivou estimar a produção de biomassa e energia de um plantio clonal experimental de curta rotação, com híbridos de Eucalyptus urophylla S.T. Blake x Eucalyptus grandis (Hill) Maiden, implantados em espaçamento 3 x 3 m, na Unidade Acadêmica Especializada em Ciências Agrárias, Macaíba/RN. As análises foram realizadas no Laboratório de Painéis e Energia da Madeira da Universidade Federal de Viçosa, no qual foram realizadas as seguintes avaliações na madeira de três materiais genéticos (GG100; AEC0144 e AEC0224): determinação da densidade básica, poder calorífico superior, análise química, análise termogravimétrica e posteriormente foram realizados cálculos para a estimativa da produção de massa e energia. Foram utilizadas amostras compostas para as análises, retiradas de três pontos ao longo do fuste: da base (10 cm do solo), a 1/3 e a 2/3 da altura comercial da árvore. O experimento foi instalado segundo delineamento inteiramente casualizado. Os dados obtidos foram submetidos à análise de variância, sendo as médias comparadas pelo teste de Tukey (α=0,05). O clone que se sobressaiu, no primeiro ano de plantio foi o GG100, com 11.805 kW.h.ha-1 de produtividade energética, seguido do clone AEC0224 (6.755 kW.h.ha-1) e AEC0144 (4.405 kW.h.ha-1). O melhor desempenho energético do clone GG100 foi devido, principalmente, ao maior crescimento volumétrico. A qualidade da madeira entre os clones apresentou pouca diferença. Devem-se estimular implantações de espécies de curta rotação no estado do RN para suprimento da alta demanda energética de biomassa florestal da região.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to estimate the biomass and energy of a clonal planting short rotation experiment with hybrids of Eucalyptus urophylla ST Blake x Eucalyptus grandis (Hill) Maiden, deployed in 3 m x 3 m spacing, at the Academic Unit Specialized in Agricultural Sciences, Macaíba/RN. The analysis were performed at the Laboratory Panels and Wood Energy, Federal University of Viçosa, in which the following ratings on wood three cultivars (GG100 ; AEC0144 and AEC0224) were performed: determination of basic density, high calorific power, chemical analysis, thermogravimetric analysis and subsequent calculations for estimating the mass production and energy were performed. The base (10 cm from the ground), the third and two thirds of commercial tree height: composed for analysis, taken from three points along the stem samples were used. The design of the experiment was a completely randomized. Data were subjected to analysis of variance and the means were compared by Tukey test (a= 0.05). The clone who excelled in the first year of planting was the GG100 with 11,805 kW.h.ha-1 of energy productivity, followed by clone AEC0224 (6,755 kW.h.ha-1) and AEC0144 (4,405 kW.h.ha-1). The performance of this clone was due to mainly the higher volumetric growth. The wood quality among clones showed little difference. It should stimulate the deployments of species of short rotation in the state of RN to supply the elevated energy demand of forest biomass in the region.

ABSTRACT Improvement of quality-related traits of grains is a constant concern in white oat breeding programs, which challenges breeders to understand their dynamics. The performance of different genetic combinations must be thoroughly evaluated to make high nutritional quality cultivars available. This study aimed to estimate the heterosis on F1 and F2 generations, vigor loss, due to inbreeding, and correlation between the grain chemical components to understand the dynamics of these traits, considering two segregating oat progenies. The populations Albasul × UPF 15 (population 1) and IAC 7 × UFRGS 19 (population 2) were developed. Both populations showed transgressive segregant individuals. The combination Albasul × UPF 15 provided significant heterosis for traits β-glucan total and soluble fiber contents, while the population obtained by crossing IAC 7 × UFRGS 19 generated significant gain by heterosis for total fiber, insoluble fibers and non-structural carbohydrate contents. Considering the F2 average for each population, one can observe that population 1 presents higher β-glucan and lipid contents than population 2. On the other hand, population 2 has higher protein content than population 1. In both populations, the non-structural carbohydrate content is strongly and negatively correlated whith protein, total and insoluble fibers. Correlations between total fibers and lipids and between total fibers and insoluble fibers were both positive and high in both populations.

A aveia branca (Avena sativa L.) é uma cultura que tem um papel importante no sistema de produção de grãos e integração lavoura-pecuária, no entanto, em algumas regiões brasileiras, o pleno estabelecimento e desenvolvimento dessa cultura, bem como o aumento de produtividade são inviabilizados pelo excesso de alumínio (Al) nos solos. A avaliação de caracteres de plântulas de aveia desenvolvidas sob cultivo hidropônico com adoção de solução nutritiva mínima pode ser eficiente para classificar genótipos sensíveis e tolerantes ao Al. Este trabalho objetivou avaliar o desempenho de 10 genótipos de aveia submetidos ao estresse por Al, baseando-se na análise da retomada do crescimento da raiz, com uso de solução mínima e identificando quais caracteres se mantêm correlacionados. Foram adotadas diferentes doses de Al (0, 3, 6, e 9 mg L-1 de Al). Com uso de solução mínima, a dose de 6 mg L-1 de Al é a mais adequada na diferenciação de genótipos sensíveis e tolerantes. Dentre os genótipos estudados, UFRGS 14, UFRGS 19 e URS Guapa são os mais tolerantes e UPFA 20, UPF 18 e IAC 7, os mais sensíveis ao Al. Com o objetivo de classificar genótipos de aveia entre sensíveis e tolerantes ao Al, nenhuma outra variável pode ser utilizada em substituição à retomada do crescimento da raiz.

White oat (Avena sativa L.) is a crop that has an important role in the system of grain production and crop-livestock integration. However, in some Brazilian regions the full establishment and development of this crop as well as increased productivity are hampered by aluminum excess (Al) in the soil. The evaluation of oat seedling traits, grown under hydroponic cultivation and minimum nutrient solution can be efficient to identify aluminum tolerant genotypes. This study aimed to evaluate the performance of ten genotypes subjected to stress by Al, based on analysis of the resumption of root growth, using minimum nutrient solution and identifying which characters remain correlated. Different doses (0, 3, 6, and 9 mg L -1 Al) were used. It was observed that the use of minimum nutrient solution is effective for the differentiation of sensitive and tolerant oat lines to Al, being 6 mg L-1 Al is the most appropriate for this scoring. Among the genotypes studied, UFRGS 14, UFRGS 19 and URS Guapa are the most tolerant and UPFA 20, UPF 18 and IAC 7 are the most sensitive to Al. The only character proved to be effective in differentiating aluminum sensitive and tolerant oat genotypes is resumption of root growth.
