ABSTRACT Public squares are important spaces in the cities and stand out for providing improvements in the quality of urban life. Thus, this study aimed to carry out the floristic survey of public squares in the city of Areia, Paraíba state, Brazil, and analyze the similarity between their flora. The species classification was performed by consulting experts and through comparative morphology. The floristic similarity was calculated using the Jaccard index. Twenty-nine species distributed in 26 genera and 20 families were recorded. Stenotaphrum secundatum (Walter) Kuntze had the highest relative frequency (8.52%). Sixty-three percent of the species are exotic and 28% contain toxic substances. There was a significant similarity (1) only between Tenente Juvenal Espíndola and Simeão Patrício squares. The data evidence the need for better planning of floristic composition of the squares in the city of Areia, as well as for a tree planting manual.

O cultivo protegido de melão vem alcançando posição de destaque no Brasil, permitindo obter colheitas durante o ano todo, maior controle de patógenos e doenças, redução da perda de nutrientes por lixiviação, diminuição de estresse fisiológico das plantas e favorecer melhoria na qualidade da produção. Objetivou-se avaliar com este trabalho, aspectos morfofisiológicos, rendimento, qualidade de frutos e eficiência do uso da água pelo meloeiro "Gália" cultivado em ambiente protegido sob diferentes lâminas de irrigação. O experimento foi conduzido no Campus IV da Universidade Estadual da Paraíba em Catolé do Rocha (PB). Utilizou-se o delineamento inteiramente casualizado com cinco lâminas de irrigação (60; 80; 100; 120 e 140% da ETo), as quais corresponderam a 43; 57; 71; 85 e 99 mm planta-1 ciclo-1, respectivamente, e oito repetições. As variáveis avaliadas foram: área foliar, comprimento do ramo principal, fitomassa seca foliar e caulinar, massa e área foliar específicas, rendimento do fruto, teor de sólidos solúveis e eficiência no uso da água. O incremento no volume das lâminas de irrigação proporciona resposta significativa aos atributos morfofisiológicos, no rendimento e na qualidade de frutos, no entanto este incremento incide em diminuição significativa na eficiência no uso da água (EUA).

The protected cultivation of the melon has reached a prominent position in Brazil, allowing for year-round harvesting, a greater control of pathogens and diseases, a reduction in leaching-induced nutrient-loss, a reduction in the plant physiological stress and an improvement in production quality. The objective of this work was to assess morpho-physiological aspects, yield, fruit quality and water-use efficiency of the Gália melon grown in a greenhouse at different irrigation levels. The experiment was carried out on Campus IV of the Paraíba State University in Catolé do Rocha (PB). A completely randomized design was used at five irrigation levels (60; 80; 100; 120 and 140% of the ETo), which corresponded to 43; 57; 71; 85 and 99 mm plant-1 cycle-1 respectively, with eight repetitions. The variables measured were: leaf area, main-stem length, leaf and stem dry-weight, specific mass and leaf area, fruit yield, soluble-solid content and efficiency of water usage. The increase in irrigation volume resulted in significant response of the morpho-physiological attributes, and fruit yield and quality, however this increase causes a significant reduction in water- use efficiency (US).
