RESUMO: O objetivo do presente estudo foi caracterizar (fenotipicamente e genotipicamente) duas cepas de Brucella abortus identificadas como pertencentes ao biovar 4 isolada de bovinos no Brasil. As cepas foram isoladas de bursite cervical de bovinos dos estados do Pará e Rio Grande do Sul, respectivamente. Na identificação fenotípica, os isolados foram positivos na exigência de CO2, produziram H2S, foram resistentes à fucsina básica (20 µg / mL) e sensíveis à tionina (20 µg / mL e 40 µg / mL) e apresentaram antígeno de superfície M, mas o antígeno de superfície A foi ausente. Os isolados foram positivos na PCR para o gene bcsp31 (gênero específico) e na PCR - AMOS, ambos os isolados apresentaram perfil de banda consistente com B. abortus biovar 1, 2 ou 4. Além disso, ambos os isolados também apresentaram padrões de restrição idêntica à cepa de referência quando testada pelo omp2b PCR-RFLP. Na genotipagem usando Multiple Locus Variable Number of Tandem Repeat (VNTR) - MLVA (MLVA16), os isolados apresentaram diferenças em vários loci (Bruce42, Bruce19, Bruce04, Bruce16 e Bruce30); no Multiple Locus Sequence Typing (MLST), os isolados também exibiram diferenças na sequência tipo (ST), amostra 16/02 ST1 (2-1-1-2-1-3-1-1-1) e amostra 128/11 ST (22-1-1-8-9-3-1-1-1). A extensa tipagem de cepas de B. abortus isoladas de bovinos no Brasil por diferentes abordagens confirmou a rara ocorrência de B. abortus biovar 4 no país.

ABSTRACT: The aim of the present study was to characterize (phenotypically and genotypically) two strains of Brucella abortus identified as belonging to biovar 4 isolated from cattle in Brazil. The strains were isolated from cervical bursitis from cattle in the states of Pará and Rio Grande do Sul, respectively. In the phenotypic identification, the isolates were positive in CO2 requirement, produced H2S, were resistant to basic fuchsin (20 µg / mL) and sensitive to thionin (20 µg / mL and 40 µg / mL) and presented M surface antigen, but A surface antigen is absent. The isolates were positive in the PCR for the bcsp31 gene (genus-specific) and in the AMOS-enhanced PCR, both isolates showed a band profile consistent with B. abortus biovar 1, 2 or 4. Moreover, both isolates also showed restriction patterns identical to the reference strain when tested by the omp2b PCR-RFLP. In genotyping using Multiple Locus Variable Number of Tandem Repeat (VNTR) Analysis - MLVA (MLVA16), the isolates showed differences in several loci (Bruce42, Bruce19, Bruce04, Bruce16 and Bruce30); by Multiple Locus Sequence Typing (MLST), they also exhibited differences in sequence type (ST), strain 16/02 ST1 (2-1-1-2-1-3-1-1-1) and strain 128/11 ST (22-1-1 -8-9-3-1-1-1). The extensive typing of B. abortus strains isolated from cattle in Brazil using different approaches confirmed the occurrence of rare B. abortus biovar 4 in the country.

ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate anthropometric and clinical data, muscle mass, subcutaneous fat, spine bone mineral density, extent of acute pulmonary disease related to COVID-19, quantification of pulmonary emphysema, coronary calcium, and hepatic steatosis using chest computed tomography of hospitalized patients with confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19 pneumonia and verify its association with disease severity. Methods: A total of 123 adults hospitalized due to COVID-19 pneumonia were enrolled in the present study, which evaluated the anthropometric, clinical and chest computed tomography data (pectoral and paravertebral muscle area and density, subcutaneous fat, thoracic vertebral bodies density, degree of pulmonary involvement by disease, coronary calcium quantification, liver attenuation measurement) and their association with poorer prognosis characterized through a combined outcome of intubation and mechanical ventilation, need of intensive care unit, and death. Results: Age (p=0.013), body mass index (p=0.009), lymphopenia (p=0.034), and degree of pulmonary involvement of COVID-19 pneumonia (p<0.001) were associated with poor prognosis. Extent of pulmonary involvement by COVID-19 pneumonia had an odds ratio of 1,329 for a poor prognosis and a cutoff value of 6.5 for increased risk, with a sensitivity of 64.9% and specificity of 67.1%. Conclusion: The present study found an association of high body mass index, older age, extent of pulmonary involvement by COVID-19, and lymphopenia with severity of COVID-19 pneumonia in hospitalized patients.

Abstract The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of unsatisfactory dental restorations on posterior primary teeth and associated factors in school children aged six to ten years. A cross-sectional study was conducted with children randomly selected from public schools in a small Brazilian town. Questionnaires were sent to the guardians addressing socioeconomic and behavioral aspects of the child. Oral examinations were performed at the schools to determine the quality of dental restorations, visible biofilm, and presence of moderate/extensive untreated caries (scores 3-6 ICDAS). This examination was performed by two previously trained and calibrated examiners. Associations were tested using multilevel logistic regression. Among the 400 children evaluated, 98 had restorations (217 teeth). The prevalence of unsatisfactory restorations was 34.6%. Restorations in amalgam were less likely to fail compared to those in glass ionomer cement (OR = 0.11; 95%CI: 0.02–0.49; p = 0.005). Children with moderate/extensive untreated caries were more likely to have unsatisfactory restorations (OR = 6.79; 95%CI: 2.20–20.93; p = 0.001). Children with a visible plaque index ≥ 20% were also more likely to have unsatisfactory restorations (OR = 2.28 95%CI: 1.05–4.92; p = 0.036). The prevalence of unsatisfactory restorations was high. The occurrence of this outcome was associated with restorative material, presence of caries, and visible plaque.

Objective: to estimate the prevalence and investigate the sociodemographic, health and lifestyle factors associated with the self-reported diagnosis of Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) in the Brazilian adult population. Methods: Data from the National Health Survey (PNS 2019).  The presence of CVD was self-reported through the question: "Has any doctor ever given you a diagnosis of heart disease?". Sociodemographic factors, health conditions and lifestyle were evaluated. For data analysis, Poisson Regression with robust variance was used. Results: 5.3% (95% CI: 5.04 -5.57) of Brazilian adults reported CVD, and of these, 29.08% (95% CI: 27.04-31.21) underwent bypass surgery or angioplasty and 8.26% (95% CI: 7.09-9.6) reported severe limitation in usual activities due to CD. The factors associated with CVD were advanced age; be male; race/ color white; have complete elementary and high school education; have a health plan; self-assess health as regular or bad/very bad; self-report hypertension, high cholesterol and diabetes; be a former smoker, consume fruits and vegetables as recommended, do not abuse alcohol abusively and do not practice leisure-time physical activity. Conclusions: CVD is associated with sociodemographic, health and lifestyle factors. It is important to support public policies, programs and goals for the reduction of cardiovascular diseases in Brazil, especially in the most vulnerable groups.

Os fatores associados a DCV foram a idade avançada; ser do sexo masculino; raça/cor branca; ter ensino fundamental completo e médio incompleto; possuir plano de saúde; autoavaliar a saúde como regular ou ruim/muito ruim; autorrelatar hipertensão, colesterol alto e diabetes; ser ex-fumante e consumir frutas e hortaliças conforme o recomendado, não consumir álcool de forma abusiva e não praticar atividade física no lazer. Conclusões: A DCV está associada à fatores sociodemográficos, de saúde e estilos de vida. Torna-se importante apoiar políticas públicas, programas e metas para a redução das doenças cardiovasculares no Brasil, especialmente nos grupos mais vulneráveis.

RESUMO Objetivo: elaborar o perfil epidemiológico dos pacientes estomizados atendidos no Serviço de Atenção à Saúde da Pessoa Ostomizada de Juiz de Fora e região (SASPO/JF) e quantificar tanto as patologias que levaram à confecção, quanto as complicações presentes nas estomias. Método: realizado estudo retrospectivo com análise de 496 prontuários de pacientes cadastrados no SASPO/JF ao longo de 30 anos e que permaneciam em atendimento no serviço em junho de 2018. Foram consideradas as seguintes variáveis: idade, sexo, patologia que levou à confecção do estoma, tipo, caráter temporal, localização e complicações das estomias. Resultados: 53,43% dos pacientes eram do sexo masculino e 46,57% do sexo feminino. A média de idade entre os homens foi de 56,24 anos e entre as mulheres foi de 58,40 anos. Oito pacientes apresentaram dois tipos de estomias simultaneamente e o total de 504 estomias foi distribuído da seguinte forma: 340 colostomias (67,46%), 117 ileostomias (23,21%) e 47 urostomias (9,33%). Além disso, 47,65% das colostomias e 76,92% das ileostomias foram temporárias, enquanto todas as urostomias foram permanentes. Em 70,24% dos casos, o motivo para confecção do estoma foi a neoplasia maligna. Foram encontrados 277 estomas com uma ou mais complicações (54,96%). Conclusão: as estomias predominaram em pacientes com mais de 50 anos e o principal diagnóstico que levou à confecção dos estomas foi a neoplasia maligna. As ileostomias apresentaram maior percentual de complicações do que as colostomias e urostomias e, para todos os tipos de estomas, a complicação mais frequente foi a dermatite.

ABSTRACT Objective: to establish the epidemiological profile of ostomized patients treated at the Health Care Service for Ostomy Patients in Juiz de Fora and region (SASPO/JF) and to quantify the pathologies that led to the stoma as well as the ostomy-related complications. Method: a retrospective study was carried out with the analysis of 496 medical records of patients registered at HCSOP/JF over 30 years and who remained in at the service in June 2018. The following variables were considered: age, sex, pathology that led to the stoma, type, time, location and complications of stomas. Results: 53.43% were male patients and 46.57% female. The average age was 56.24 years among men and 58.40 years among women. Eight patients had two types of ostomies simultaneously and a total of 504 ostomies were as follows: 340 colostomies (67.46%), 117 ileostomies (23.21%) and 47 urostomies (9.33%). Additionally, 47.65% of the colostomies and 76.92% of the ileostomies were temporary, while all urostomies were permanent. In 70.24% of cases, the reason for making the stoma was malignancy. There were 277 stomas with one or more complications (54.96%). Conclusions: most of the ostomized patients were over 50 years old and the main diagnosis that led to the stoma was malignancy. Ileostomies had a higher percentage of complications than colostomies and urostomies and, for all types of stomas, the most frequent complication was dermatitis.

Conclusões: A doença cardiovascular está associada a fatores sociodemográficos, de saúde e estilos de vida. RESUMO O objetivo foi identificar as trajetórias assistenciais de idosos em uma região de saúde do Distrito Federal e suas percepções acerca desses percursos. Pesquisa qualitativa que analisou, com base na metodologia de caso traçador, 14 percursos assistenciais de idosos. Foram realizadas entrevistas com idosos e cuidadores, processadas por análise de conteúdo; e consulta a prontuários. Mapas das trajetórias descritas foram elaborados por geoprocessamento. Identificou-se que o percurso real feito pelos idosos difere do previsto na legislação, e que as fragilidades apontadas estiveram relacionadas à difícil acessibilidade, ao deficit de profissionais, à falta de medicamentos e ao tempo de espera para atendimento na atenção especializada. As potencialidades relatadas pelos idosos envolveram humanização no atendimento, tais como o bom acolhimento por parte da equipe, a construção de vínculos e escuta qualificada, e sensação de bem-estar após as consultas. Apesar de o modelo de atenção ainda ser fragmentado e estar distante da situação ideal, os usuários se sentem satisfeitos com os cuidados recebidos, evidenciando aspectos positivos no processo do cuidar em saúde. Entretanto, a organização de processos de trabalho e a articulação entre os níveis de atenção à saúde precisam ser revistas e adequadas às especificidades desse ciclo de vida.

ABSTRACT The aim was to identify the healthcare pathways of the elderly in one health region in the Federal District and their perceptions about these pathways. A qualitative study analyzed 14 healthcare pathways of elderly people, using tracer methodology. Interviews were conducted with the elderly and caregivers, processed by content analysis; and medical records were reviewed. Maps of the paths described were prepared by geoprocessing. It was found that the actual healthcare pathways taken by the elderly differ from what law would predict, and that the weaknesses detected were related to poor accessibility conditions, lack of professionals, lack of medicines, and the long waiting time for specialized health care. The expectations reported by the elderly involved humanization of care, emerging elements such as being well received by the personnel, the building of bonds, qualified listening, and a feeling of well-being after the medical consultation. Although the care model is still fragmented and far from ideal, users feel satisfied with the care provision and identify positive aspects in the health care process. However, the organization of work processes and the articulation between levels of health care need to be reviewed and adapted to the specificities of this life phase.

RESUMO Os departamentos de radiologia precisaram adotar mudanças significativas em sua rotina durante a pandemia da doença causada pelo novo coronavírus, a fim de reduzir sua transmissibilidade e otimizar os cuidados médicos. Neste artigo, descrevemos as políticas adotadas pelo Departamento de Radiologia de um hospital privado durante a pandemia, com foco em qualidade e segurança de paciente submetido a exames de imagem, equipe de assistência do departamento de imagem, médico solicitante, demais pacientes e ambiente hospitalar.

ABSTRACT Radiology departments were forced to make significant changes in their routine during the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic, to prevent further transmission of the coronavirus and optimize medical care as well. In this article, we describe our Radiology Department’s policies in a private hospital for coronavirus disease 2019 preparedness focusing on quality and safety for the patient submitted to imaging tests, the healthcare team involved in the exams, the requesting physician, and for other patients and hospital environment.

RESUMO Objetivo Investigar associação de olfato e paladar com a idade e o sexo, em crianças com e sem rinite alérgica. Métodos Estudo observacional, comparativo, analítico e transversal. Amostra composta por 127 crianças, sendo 85 sem rinite alérgica e 42 com rinite alérgica, entre 7 e 12 anos de idade, atendidas no Hospital das Clínicas da Universidade Federal de Pernambuco. Foi realizada revisão de prontuário, entrevista com os responsáveis, limpeza nasal, avaliação do olfato por meio de teste embasado na literatura - desenvolvido para esta pesquisa -, higienização bucal e avaliação do paladar, mediante teste das tiras gustativas. Os dados foram tabulados e analisados no programa estatístico SPSS 17.0 e considerou-se o nível de significância de 5%. Utilizou-se o Teste Qui-quadrado ou exato de Fisher, além da frequência absoluta e relativa dos dados. Resultados O estudo evidenciou semelhanças entre os níveis de discriminação olfatória e gustatória em sexos e faixas etárias diferentes, nas crianças com e sem rinite alérgica, observada ausência de associações estatisticamente significativas nestas condições. Conclusão Os resultados do estudo se contrapõem à literatura pesquisada, porém contribuem no estabelecimento de escores da quantificação olfatória e gustativa para sexos e idades diferentes, em crianças com e sem rinite alérgica.

ABSTRACT Purpose To associate smell and taste with age and sex of children with and without allergic rhinitis. Methods This is an observational, comparative, analytical and cross-sectional study with a sample of 127 children, 85 without allergic rhinitis and 42 with allergic rhinitis aged 7-12 years attended at the Clinics Hospital of Pernambuco. The research started on January 2012 and was approved by the Ethics Research Committee. The Free and Informed Consent Form was applied, then, medical report review, interview with parents / caregivers, nasal cleaning, evaluation of smell using a test based on literature developed for this study, oral hygiene and taste evaluation using the taste strip test were performed. Data were analyzed using the SPSS 17.0 software, considering 0.05 significance level using the Chi-square or Fisher's exact test, in addition to absolute and relative frequency data. Results The study highlights similarities between levels of olfactory and gustatory discrimination between different sexes and age groups of children (with and without allergic rhinitis), as there is lack of statistically significant associations under these conditions. Conclusion The study results contradict literature findings, but contribute in establishing olfactory and gustatory quantification scores for different ages and sexes of children with and without allergic rhinitis.

Abstract Aspergillus westerdijkiae is one of the most important spoilage and toxigenic fungi contaminating coffee beans and may produce ochratoxin A (OTA), a mycotoxin that characterize a health risk to the coffee consumers. Biological control strategies can be used for prevention of fungal invasion and decrease mycotoxin exposure. The aims of this study were to evaluate the in vitro effect of three Bacillus sp. biocontrol candidates on A. westerdijkiae mycelial growth, spore counts and OTA production. A green-coffee based medium was inoculated with A. westerdijkiae and Bacillus spp. (B. safensis RF69, B. amyloliquefaciens RP103 and B. subtilis RP242) and after incubation, the fungal growth, sporulation and mycotoxin production was evaluated. Mycelial growth rate was reduced in a range between 76-95% and conidial production was also significantly decreased. All isolates were capable of reducing OTA production in a range between 62-96%. The results showed that the biocontrol candidates may be an effective control method for A. westerdijkiae and OTA in coffee.

Resumo As Academias ao Ar Livre (AAL) são uma ótima alternativa para realização de atividade física (AF) de forma gratuita. O objetivo deste estudo foi verificar a prática de AF e fatores associados em reqüentadores das AAL de Pelotas-RS. Os participantes responderam a um questionário contendo questões demográficas, socioeconômicas, comportamentais, de saúde e relativas à utilização das AAL. Foi utilizada a versão longa do International Physical Activity Questionnaire para determinar o nível atividade física dos indivíduos e foram considerados suficientemente ativos aqueles que relataram pelo menos 150 minutos/semana de AF no domínio de lazer. Participaram do estudo 323 indivíduos (65,3% mulheres), com média de idade de 52,5 anos, 83,6% de pele branca e 61,9% casados. Quase a metade dos entrevistados apresentava sobrepeso (48,0%), 45,8%, pressão alta, 10,5% diabetes e 64,4% utilizam medicamentos. Foram classificados como suficientemente ativos 77,7% dos entrevistados. Tanto na análise bivariada quanto na multivariável a percepção de saúde se mostrou associada à AF de lazer, sendo que quanto melhor à percepção de saúde maior a prevalência de AF suficiente. Programas coletivos com participação do professor de Educação Física podem colaborar para interação dos praticantes com o uso das AAL e aumentar o nível de atividade física dos indivíduos.

Abstract Fitness zones (FZ) are a great alternative to physical activity practice. The aim of this study was verify physical activity practice and associated factors among FZ users of Pelotas. Participants answered a questionnaire containing demographic, socioeconomic, behavioral, health and on the use of FZs. A long version of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire was used to determine the level of physical activity and those who reported at least 150 minutes / week of PA in the leisure time were considered sufficiently active. The study included 323 subjects (65.3% women), mean age 52.5 years, 83.6% white skin color and 61.9% married. Almost half of respondents were overweight (48.0%), 45.8% had high blood pressure, 10.5% had diabetes and 64.4% used medications. About 77.7% of respondents were classified as sufficiently active. Health perception was associated to leisure physical activity, and the better the health perception, the higher the prevalence of sufficient physical activity. Collective programs with participation of Physical Education teacher can contribute to interaction of practitioners with the use of fitness zones and increase the level of physical activity of individuals.

RESUMO Objetivou-se neste trabalho avaliar o efeito da gravidade específica de ovos de matrizes pesadas com diferentes idades no rendimento de incubação e no peso dos pintos pós-eclosão. Foram utilizados 3.072 ovos oriundos de dois lotes de matrizes pesadas, linhagem Cobb – 500®. Os ovos foram distribuídos em delineamento experimental inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 2x4, com duas idades de matrizes (53 e 64 semanas) e quatro diferentes densidades (1.070, 1.075, 1.080, 1.085), totalizando oito tratamentos e quatro repetições (com 96 ovos por unidade experimental). As variáveis avaliadas foram o peso do ovo (g), a taxa de eclosão (%), a taxa de fertilidade (%), a perda de peso dos ovos durante o período de incubação (%) e a relação do peso dos pintos/peso dos ovos (%). Os resultados foram submetidos à análise de variância, sendo que o efeito das densidades foi avaliado por meio de regressão polinomial e o efeito da idade das matrizes pelo teste F, ao nível de 5% de probabilidade. As perdas de peso dos ovos, exceto para as densidades de 1.075 e 1.085, oriundos de matrizes com 53 e 64 semanas de idade, respectivamente, apresentaram-se dentro dos valores recomendados na literatura. O peso do pinto ao nascer foi proporcional ao peso do ovo, representando em média 68% e sem diferenças entre a idade das matrizes e as diferentes densidades. A idade da matriz exerceu influência no rendimento de incubação, sendo as maiores taxas de fertilidade e eclosão total (p<0,05) obtida pelos ovos oriundos de matrizes com 53 semanas de idade.

SUMMARY The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of specific gravity of eggs from broiler breeders of different ages in the yield of incubation and the weight of post-hatch chicks. Were used 3.072 eggs from two batches of broiler breeders, Cobb - 500®. The eggs were distributed a completely randomized design in a 2x4 factorial design with two broiler breeder ages (53 and 64 weeks) and four different egg densities (1.070, 1.075, 1.080, 1.085), totaling eight treatments and four replications (with 96 eggs per experimental unit). The evaluated variables were the egg weight (g), the hatching rate (%), the fertility rate (%), the weight loss of eggs during the incubation period (%) and the ratio of the weight of the chicks/egg weight (%). The results were submitted to analysis of variance, being that the effect of density was assessed by polynomial regression and the age effect of breeders by F test at 5% probability. Weight losses of eggs, except for the densities of 1,075 and 1,085, from breeders with 53 and 64 weeks of age, respectively, were within the values recommended in the literature. The chick weight was proportional to the weight of the egg, representing on average 68% and no differences between age and density of broiler breeders. The age of the breeders exerted influence on the yield of incubation, and the best results (p<0.05) obtained by eggs from breeders with 53 weeks of age.
