Abstract: COVID-19 rapidly spread across the world in an unprecedented outbreak with a massive number of infected and fatalities. The pandemic was heavily discussed and searched on the internet, which generated big amounts of data related to it. This led to the possibility of attempting to forecast coronavirus indicators using the internet data. For this study, Google Trends statistics for 124 selected search terms related to pandemic were used in an attempt to find which keywords had the best Spearman correlations with a lag, as well as a forecasting model. It was found that keywords related to coronavirus testing among some others, such as “I have contracted covid”, had high correlations (≥0.7) with few weeks of lag (≤4 weeks). Besides that, the ARIMAX model using those keywords had promising results in predicting the increase or decrease of epidemiological indicators, although it was not able to predict their exact values. Thus, we found that Google Trends data may be useful for predicting outbreaks of coronavirus a few weeks before they happen, and may be used as an auxiliary tool in monitoring and forecasting the disease in Brazil.

Abstract This study aims to evaluate the in silico genomic characteristics of Streptococcus infantarius subsp. infantarius, isolated from Coalho cheese from Paraíba, Brazil, with a view to application in lactic fermentations. rRNA sequences from the 16S ribosomal region were used as input to GenBank, in the search for patterns that could reveal a non-pathogenic behavior of S. infantarius subsp. infantarius, comparing mobile genetic elements, antibiotic resistance genes, pan-genome analysis and multi-genome alignment among related species. S. infantarius subsp. infantarius CJ18 was the only complete genome reported by BLAST/NCBI with high similarity and after comparative genetics with complete genomes of Streptococcus agalactiae (SAG153, NJ1606) and Streptococcus thermophilus (ST106, CS18, IDCC2201, APC151) revealed that CJ18 showed a low number of transposases and integrases, infection by phage bacteria of the Streptococcus genus, absence of antibiotic resistance genes and presence of bacteriocin, folate and riboflavin producing genes. The genome alignment revealed that the collinear blocks of S. thermophilus ST106 and S. agalactiae SAG153 have inverted blocks when compared to the CJ18 genome due to gene positioning, insertions and deletions. Therefore, the strains of S. infantarius subsp. infantarius isolated from Coalho cheese from Paraíba showed genomic similarity with CJ18 and the mobility of genes analyzed in silico showed absence of pathogenicity throughout the genome of CJ18, indicating the potential of these strains for the dairy industry.

Abstract In this study, we assessed the effects of multiple land uses and local habitat variables on the composition of fish functional trophic groups (FTG’s) and on the ecomorphological traits of fish in Amazonian streams. We evaluated land use types and local habitat variables in 26 streams distributed within a land use gradient. Land use and habitat variables affected the composition of FTG’s, as evidenced by the increased abundance of diurnal channel drift feeders in areas with high dissolved oxygen and deeper thalweg. At the same time, diurnal surface pickers, as well as diggers, and ambush and stalker predators were more abundant in streams with higher canopy density. Only habitat variables affected the ecomorphological characteristics of the species. Fish with higher values of relative caudal peduncle length were positively associated with high canopy density, while fish with greater relative mouth width were negatively associated with the variables impact in the riparian zone and cover of fish shelter. The stream fish functional structure was mainly affected by the impacts caused to the local habitat resulting from different land uses. Thus, preserving forest remnants, as well as recovering degraded areas, is essential for the maintenance of aquatic biodiversity in the region.

ABSTRACT We have reported here the case of a 54-year-old woman with intracranial hypertension that presented with the unique features of unilateral papilledema and peripapillary polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy. Our investigations lead to the diagnosis of idiopathic intracranial hypertension and an incidental small right frontal meningioma. The patient was accordingly treated with oral acetazolamide, followed by three consecutive monthly intravitreal injections of bevacizumab, which resulted in the inactivation of the polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy, marked reduction of lipid exudation, and complete absorption of the subretinal fluid. This case serves as the first documentation of polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy associated with papilledema. It also demonstrates that choroidal vascular abnormalities may occur even when optic disk edema is unilateral, which is an uncommon manifestation of increased intracranial pressure. Prompt recognition of such findings and its appropriate management are essential for adequate treatment and prevention of irreversible visual loss.

Objective: Parkinson’s disease (PD) is often accompanied by stigma, which could contribute to a worse prognosis. The objective of this study is to identify the variables associated with stigma in PD patients who are candidates for deep brain stimulation (DBS). Methods: We investigated sociodemographic and clinical variables associated with stigma in a sample of 54 PD patients indicated for DBS. The independent variables were motor symptoms assessed by the Movement Disorder Society‐sponsored revision of the Unified Parkinson Disease Rating Scale (MDS-UPDRS III), depressive symptoms measured by the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, age, disease duration and the presence of a general medical condition. The Mobility, Activities of daily living and Emotional well-being domains of the 39-item Parkinson’s Disease Questionnaire (PDQ-39) were also investigated as independent variables, and the Stigma domain of the PDQ-39 scale was considered the outcome variable. Results: After multiple linear regression analysis, activities of daily living remained associated with the Stigma domain (B = 0.42 [95%CI 0.003-0.83], p = 0.048). The full model accounted for 15% of the variance in the Stigma domain (p = 0.03). Conclusions: Although causal assumptions are not appropriate for cross-sectional studies, the results suggest that ADL difficulties could contribute to greater stigma in PD patients with refractory motor symptoms who are candidates for DBS.

Abstract An updated inventory of Brazilian seed plants is presented and offers important insights into the country's biodiversity. This work started in 2010, with the publication of the Plants and Fungi Catalogue, and has been updated since by more than 430 specialists working online. Brazil is home to 32,086 native Angiosperms and 23 native Gymnosperms, showing an increase of 3% in its species richness in relation to 2010. The Amazon Rainforest is the richest Brazilian biome for Gymnosperms, while the Atlantic Rainforest is the richest one for Angiosperms. There was a considerable increment in the number of species and endemism rates for biomes, except for the Amazon that showed a decrease of 2.5% of recorded endemics. However, well over half of Brazillian seed plant species (57.4%) is endemic to this territory. The proportion of life-forms varies among different biomes: trees are more expressive in the Amazon and Atlantic Rainforest biomes while herbs predominate in the Pampa, and lianas are more expressive in the Amazon, Atlantic Rainforest, and Pantanal. This compilation serves not only to quantify Brazilian biodiversity, but also to highlight areas where there information is lacking and to provide a framework for the challenge faced in conserving Brazil's unique and diverse flora.

The objective of this work was to evaluate selection indexes to identify parents to be used in the recurrent selection of yellow passion fruit. Forty-three germplasm accessions were evaluated for 18 agronomic traits, from which productivity, fruit mass, total soluble solids, pulp yield and resistance to diseases were considered as the primary ones. Direct selection, genotype-ideotype distance index, Smith & Hazel index and the sum of ranks of Mulamba & Mock were the selection strategies evaluated. The means for most of the main traits, and their heritability and amplitude values indicated the possibility to obtain genetic gains by selection. High genetic gains were achieved by direct selection, but with undesirable losses in other important traits. Using the genetic standard deviation as economic weight, the sum of ranks selection index made possible balanced predicted gains for the 18 traits. The genetic gains ranged from 2.47 to 10.33%, for productivity and pulp yield, respectively, and there was a severity reduction in most of the evaluated diseases. The utilization of selection indexes for choosing parentals with wide genetic basis to be used in recurrent selection programs of yellow passion fruit is a viable alternative, even when undesirable correlations are present.

We report the case of a 35-year-old male patient with congenital atresia of the left main coronary artery, a rare disease with few cases reported in the literature. In this anomaly, the left coronary ostium is absent, the proximal left main trunk ends blindly and blood flow is retrograde from the right to the left coronary artery by small collateral arteries. Differential diagnosis includes other congenital malformations (single right coronary artery and anomalous origin of the left coronary artery from the pulmonary artery) and acquired atherosclerotic disease of the left main coronary artery.

BACKGROUND: In-stent restenosis (ISR), resulting from excessive neointimal hyperplasia, is a major limitation of percutaneous coronary intervention. Despite the efficacy of first generation drug-eluting stents (DES) in the treatment of ISR, issues related to the safety and flexibility/navigability profile have encouraged the development of new generations of DES. The new FirebirdTM DES (Microport Co. Ltd., Shanghai, China) combines a stainless steel platform (L316) of fine struts (0,0040'), a powerful anti-proliferative agent (sirolimus, at a dose of 9 µg/mm²) and a coating that includes three layers of a durable polymer, which controls drug release. Though it is a most used DES in China, little is known about its performance, particularly in subgroups of greater complexity. METHOD: Between February and December 2009, patients with single bare metal stent restenotic lesions, were submitted to percutaneous coronary intervention with FirebirdTM stent implantation. Angiography and intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) were scheduled for all patients at 12 months of follow-up. The primary end-point was late loss and the percentage of in-stent volumetric obstruction at 12 months. RESULTS: Twenty-five patients with mean age of 56.8 ± 7.7 years were included, of which 80% were males and 40% diabetics. The anterior descending artery was the most frequently treated vessel (44%) and most lesions had a diffuse/proliferative pattern (64%). At 12 months, late luminal loss was 0.3 ± 0.24 mm, and no case of binary restenosis was identified. IVUS percent volumetric obstruction was 2.6 ± 1.9%. CONCLUSION: In this single center study, the new FirebirdTM DES showed favorable angiographic and IVUS results for the treatment of bare metal ISR at the one year follow-up.

Papaya (Caryca papaya) genotypes ('NT Red', 'Golden', 'Baixinho de St. Amália', 'Sunrise Solo', 'Cross Paris', 'Tailândia Verde', 'Tailândia Roxo', 'Tailândia Roxão', 'Sekati' and 'Tainung-1') were evaluated for resistance to black-spot (Asperisporium caricae) and foot-rot (Phytophthora palmivora). The study was conducted in an area where both pathogens occurred naturally and in a greenhouse using soil naturally infested with P. palmivora. Black-spot severity was evaluated using a scale, from 1 (0-3% of the surface covered by lesions) to 6 (> of 50% of the surface covered by lesions). The evaluations were made between March / 2003 and April / 2003 and between October / 2003 and February / 2004. Foot-rot was evaluated, on the field trial, by counting the total number of plants with yellowing or wilt symptoms in the same period. On the greenhouse trials P. palmivora severity was evaluated in each plant using a scale from 0 (no wilt symptoms) to 3 (plant death). In relation to black-spot, the genotype 'Sekati' of the Formosa group presented the lowest average value of severity (2,0) on the foliage while ''Golden' (3,1) and NT Red' (3,7) had the largest. 'Tailândia Roxão' (1,6), 'Tailândia Verde' (1,7) and 'Sekati' (1,7) also had the lowest averages of severity on the fruit, while, 'Tailândia Roxo' (2,3), 'Cross Paris' (2,5), and 'Sunrise Solo' (3,1) presented the largest. In relation to foot rot, 'Tailândia Roxão' (Formosa group) presented low amount of disease and 'Golden', 'Sunrise Solo, and 'NT Red' presented higher values.
