RESUMO Objetivo: Propor um modelo de normatização de uma plataforma de posturografia em adultos sem alterações do equilíbrio corporal, através da análise descritiva por faixa etária e sexo. Método: Estudo observacional transversal. Adultos sem alterações do equilíbrio corporal e sem queixas vestibulares foram submetidos a seis condições sensoriais na plataforma de posturografia Horus®. Foram analisadas as variáveis: área do limite de estabilidade e área de elipse de confiança, comprimento da trajetória e velocidade média para cada condição testada. As variáveis foram analisadas por faixa etária e sexo. Sobre as condições foram calculados o escore de equilíbrio, teste de integração sensorial e índice de equilíbrio. Resultados: Foram avaliados 61 sujeitos, 38 (62,3%) do sexo feminino e 23 (37,7%) do sexo masculino; 40 (65,57%) na faixa etária de 20 a 40 anos e 21 (34,43%) entre 41 a 59 anos. Foram descritas a área do limite de estabilidade e as variáveis do Centro de Pressão para seis condições sensoriais testadas - área da elipse de confiança, comprimento da trajetória, velocidade média total e razão da elipse de confiança pela área do limite de estabilidade. Houve diferença estatisticamente significante na comparação da área do limite de estabilidade entre sexos e entre faixas etárias, sendo o valor maior no sexo masculino e em pacientes mais jovens. Quanto à análise das variáveis por condição, não houve diferença de resultados entre os sexos e faixas etárias. Conclusão: Sujeitos de sexos e faixas etárias distintas devem ser considerados separadamente somente na análise do limite de estabilidade.

ABSTRACT Purpose: To propose a normalization model of a posturography platform in adults without changes in body balance, through descriptive analysis by age group and sex. Methods: Cross-sectional observational study. Adults, with no changes in body balance and no vestibular complaints were submitted to 6 sensory conditions on the Horus® posturography platform. The following variables were analyzed: stability limit area and confidence ellipse area, trajectory length and average velocity for each condition tested. The variables were analyzed by age group and sex. The equilibrium score, the sensory integration test and the equilibrium index were calculated on the conditions. Results: Sixty-one subjects (38.3%) and 23 (37.7%) were male, 40 (65.57%) between the ages of 20 and 40 and 21 (34.43). %) between 41 and 59 years. The area of the stability limit and pressure center variables for 6 sensory conditions tested - confidence ellipse area, trajectory length, total mean velocity and confidence ellipse ratio by the area of the stability limit were described. There was a statistically significant difference in the comparison between the area of the stability limit between sexes and between age groups, being a higher value in males and in younger patients. Regarding the analysis of the variables by each condition, there was no difference of results between the sexes and age groups. Conclusion: Subjects of different sexes and age groups should be considered separately only in the analysis of the stability limit.

RESUMO Objetivou-se, neste trabalho, determinar o efeito do ambiente e do balanço eletrolítico sobre os índices ambientais, fisiológicos e produtivos de codornas japonesas. Utilizaram-se 288 aves distribuídas no delineamento em blocos casualizados com seis tratamentos e seis repetições de oito aves por unidade experimental. Os tratamentos consistiram em uma ração basal com nível de 20,0% PB e os demais com redução de 3,0% PB, para alcançar seis níveis de balanço eletrolítico (166,54; 153,47; 139,63; 139,63; 117,13 e 166,49). Quanto ao ambiente, verificou-se uma elevação na temperatura do ar e no índice de temperatura e umidade nos horários mais quentes do dia, causando desconforto às aves, que elevaram a frequência respiratória, porém com a manutenção da homeotermia. Foram observadas diferenças no consumo de ração, consumo de água, produção, peso e massa de ovo, em razão dos níveis eletrolíticos da ração. Quanto à conversão alimentar tanto por massa quanto por dúzia de ovos, não foi observada diferença estatística. O balanço eletrolítico e os índices ambientais nos horários mais quentes do dia não interferiram na produção das aves.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to determine the effects of environment and electrolyte balance on environmental, physiological and productive indices of Japanese quails. For the experiment, 288 quails were distributed in a randomized block design with six treatments and six replicates of eight birds per experimental unit. The treatments consisted of one basal feed with 20.0% of crude protein (CP) and the others with a reduction of 3.0% CP to achieve six electrolyte balance levels (166.54; 153.47; 139.63; 139.63; 117.13 and 166.49). As to the environment, there was an increase in air temperature and temperature-humidity index at the hottest hours of the day, causing discomfort to the birds, which increased respiratory rate, but with the maintenance of homeothermy. Differences were observed in feed consumption, water consumption, production, weight of eggs and mass of eggs, due to the electrolyte levels in the feed. For feed conversion, both per mass and per dozen of eggs, there was no statistical difference. The electrolyte balance and environmental indices at the hottest hours of the day did not affect quail production.

<sec><title>OBJETIVO:</title><p> Investigar a associação dos alelos HLA-A, -B e -DRB1 com a ocorrência de Aborto Espontâneo Recorrente.</p></sec><sec><title>MÉTODOS:</title><p> Estudo caso-controle com 200 mulheres com idade entre 18 e 35 anos, sendo a amostra de conveniência com 100 mulheres que tiveram aborto espontâneo recorrente idiopático e 100 mulheres sem aborto e com dois ou mais filhos. A obtenção do DNA Genômico foi de sangue periférico, sendo a extração realizada a partir de 500l do Buffy-Coat conservado a -20°C. A Tipificação HLA foi feita pelo método PCR-SSOP (<italic>Polymerase Chain Reaction - Specific Sequence of Oligonucleotides Probes</italic>, One Lambda^(r), CA, EUA). As regiões do DNA amplificado foram o exon 2 e 3 para os <italic>loci</italic>A e B e apenas o exon 3 para o <italic>locus</italic> DRB1. Para determinação da genotipagem HLA-A, HLA-B e HLA-DRB1, utilizou-se o programa HLA FUSION^TM(One Lambda, Canoga Park, CA, United States, 3.0 version). Na análise estatística, utilizaram-se frequências absolutas e porcentagens, e cálculo de média e desvio padrão. As variáveis qualitativas foram comparadas utilizando-se o teste χ², com correção de Yates, ou Teste Exato de Fisher. Para as comparações e significância (p<0,05), foi calculado <italic>Odds Ratio</italic> com IC95%.</p></sec><sec><title>RESULTADOS:</title><p> O alelo A*34 apresentou frequência significativamente maior no grupo caso em relação ao controle (4,0<italic> versus</italic>0,5%; p<0,05). Os alelos A*24 (6,0<italic> versus</italic>12,5%; p<0,05) e B*35 (8,0<italic> versus</italic>20,5%; p<0,05) foram significativamente menos frequentes no grupo caso. Entre os alelos de classe II, o DRB1*03 apresentou frequência ligeiramente maior no grupo caso (11,0<italic> versus</italic>5,5%; p=0,056).</p></sec><sec><title>CONCLUSÕES:</title><p> Foi demonstrado que o alelo HLA-A*34 é fator de risco para o abortamento espontâneo recorrente, enquanto os alelos HLA-A*24 e HLA-B*35 estão associados à proteção, e nenhum alelo do <italic>locus</italic> DRB1 apresentou associação com AER.</p></sec>

<sec><title>PURPOSE:</title><p> To investigate the association of the HLA-A, -B and -DRB1 alleles with the occurrence of Recurrent Spontaneous Abortion.</p></sec><sec><title>METHODS:</title><p> A case-control study of 200 women aged 18 to 35 years, consisting of a convenience sample of 100 women who had idiopathic recurrent spontaneous abortion and 100 women without abortion and with two or more children. Peripheral blood genomic DNA was extracted from 500l of Buffy Coat stored at -20°C. HLA typing was performed by the PCR-SSOP method (Polymerase Chain Reaction - Specific Sequence of Oligonucleotides Probes, One Lambda^(r), CA, USA). The regions of the amplified DNA were exon 2 and 3 for the A and B <italic>loci</italic> and only exon 3 for the DRB1 <italic>locus</italic>. The HLA FUSION^TM program (One Lambda, Canoga Park, CA, USA, version 3.0) was used for HLA-A, HLA-B and HLA-DRB1 genotyping. Absolute frequencies and percentages and calculation of mean and standard deviation were used for standard statistical analysis. The qualitative variables were compared by the χ² test with Yates correction or by Fisher's exact test. The odds ratio with the 95%CI was used for the comparisons, with the level of significance set at p<0.05.</p></sec><sec><title>RESULTS:</title><p> The frequency of the A*34 allele was significantly higher in the case group compared to control (4.0<italic> versus</italic>0.5%; p<0.05). Alleles A*24 (6.0<italic> versus</italic>12.5%; p<0.05) and B*35 (8.0<italic> versus</italic>20.5%; p<0.05) were significantly less frequent in the case group. Among the class II alleles, DRB1*03 showed a slightly higher frequency in the case group (11.0<italic> versus</italic>5.5%, p = 0.056).</p></sec><sec><title>CONCLUSIONS:</title><p> It was shown that the HLA-A*34 allele is a risk factor for recurrent spontaneous abortion, while the HLA-A*24 and HLA-B*35 alleles are associated with protection, and no allele of the DRB1 <italic>locus</italic> was associated with RSA.</p></sec>

Os autores apresentam um caso de divertículo intraluminal do duodeno em uma paciente de 44 anos de idade, com sintomas escassos e incaracterísticos. O diagnóstico radiológico foi confirmado à cirurgia e houve controle pós-operatório. A anomalia, uma forma rara de duplicação, com diagnóstico radiológico unicamente pelo exame baritado convencional pré-operatório, consiste de uma estrutura em "fundo de saco", revestida de ambos os lados por mucosa normal, projetando-se na luz do duodeno. Após a revisão da literatura, os autores tecem considerações acerca do diagnóstico.

The authors present a case of intraluminal diverticulum of duodenum in a 44-year-old female with poor and uncharacteristic symptoms. The radiological diagnosis was confirmed by surgery. The patient was also followed up after surgery. This anomaly, a rare form of duplication, consists of a "pocket-like" structure lined on both sides by duodenal mucosa projecting into the duodenal lumen.

Este trabalho teve como objetivo estudar a atração dos machos da traça-das-crucíferas (Plutella xylostella L., Lepidoptera: Yponomeutidae) por diferentes formulações do feromônio sexual sintético. Os tratamentos consistiram em: 1) formulação comercial; 2) Z11,16:Ald; 3) Z11,16:Ac; 4) mistura 7:3 de 2+3; 5) mistura 5:5 de 2+3; 6) septos de borracha com hexano (testemunha); e 7) cinco fêmeas virgens. A formulação comercial do feromônio sexual sintético propiciou maior captura de machos, não diferindo significativamente de fêmeas virgens e da mistura 5:5 utilizadas como isca. Os componentes isoladamente foram pouco atrativos aos machos. Foram testados cinco modelos de armadilhas. A armadilha Pherocon 1 CP (33,2 machos/armadilha/noite) foi a mais eficiente na captura de machos, seguida pelas armadilhas Cilíndrica Aberta, Cilíndrica Fechada, Delta e Redonda Aberta. Três alturas de instalação da armadilha foram avaliadas. Ocorreu significativamente maior captura de machos na altura do ápice das plantas (30 cm do solo). As alturas de 5 e 60 cm não diferiram entre si.

The aim of this work was to study the attractiveness of males of Plutella xylostella L. (Lepidoptera: Yponomeutidae) to different formulations of synthetic sex pheromone. The treatments were: 1) commercial formulation; 2) Z11,16:Ald; 3) Z11,16:Ac; 4) binary blends 7:3 of 2+3; 5) binary blends 5:5 of 2+3; 6) rubber septa with hexane (control); 7) five virgin females. The commercial formulation of the synthetic sex pheromone was more attractive to males, and did not differ significantly from virgin females and binary blends 5:5 treatments. The components alone were less attractive to males. Five traps were evaluated: Pherocon 1 CP (wing trap), Delta, "PVC 200", "PVC 250" and Black Round Trap, where the wing trap was more effective in capturing males than the other traps tested. The wing trap was evaluated at 5, 30 and 60 cm. More males were caught at 30 cm above the ground level, while the height of 5 and 60 cm did not differ significantly.

Estudou-se o efeito da adição do feromônio sexual sintético de Podisus nigrispinus (Dallas) (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) na localização e aceitação da dieta artificial utilizada para criação do inseto em laboratório. Avaliou-se o efeito do feromônio sexual completo, dos três componentes que ocorrem em maior proporção no feromônio [a-terpineol, fenilmetanol e (E)-2-hexenal] e de um dos componentes que ocorrem em menor proporção no feromônio (trans-piperitol) sobre a dieta, comparados à dieta pura e a larvas de Musca domestica L. (Diptera: Muscidae). A atração de ninfas de segundo ínstar de P. nigrispinus à dieta artificial foi facilitada pela presença do feromônio sexual adicionado à mesma, sendo que a dieta com feromônio completo mostrou maior atratividade que a dieta pura após cinco ou 120 min do oferecimento da dieta. Porém, larvas de M. domestica foram, na maioria das vezes, mais atrativas que os demais tratamentos. O ganho de peso foi significativamente maior para ninfas alimentadas com dieta com os três componentes majoritários, dieta com trans-piperitol e larvas de M. domestica, apresentando peso médio de 1,4 mg, 1,35 mg e 1,3 mg, respectivamente. P. nigrispinus apresentou menor ganho de peso com dieta pura e dieta com feromônio completo, com ninfas pesando 0,37 mg e 0,6 mg, respectivamente. Os resultados demonstraram que os componentes do feromônio utilizados causaram efeito fagoestimulante sobre o predador P. nigrispinus, e que podem atuar auxiliando estes insetos no processo de localização do alimento.

A mass rearing program of Podisus nigrispinus (Dallas) (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) is under development at the Federal University of Viçosa, MG, Brazil, aiming to release this predaceous insect for the control of caterpillars in Eucalyptus reforestation areas. As the location and acceptance of the artificial diet by P. nigrispinus needs to be improved, we tested the effect of the addition of its synthetic sex pheromone to the diet. We impregnated diets, inside and/or outside, with the complete pheromone blend, with the three main components (a-terpineol, benzyl alcohol, and (E)-2-hexenal), as well as with trans-piperitol, and compared the development of insects fed on artificial and natural (Musca domestica L. alive larvae) diets. Attraction of second instar nymphs of P. nigrispinus to artificial diets was enhanced by the addition of the sex pheromone blend compared with the plain diet, both after five and 120 min on the diet. However, none of the pheromone added diets were as attractive to P. nigrispinus as the housefly larvae diet. Increase in weight was greater for nymphs fed on diet with the three major components of the pheromone, as well as with trans-piperitol or housefly larvae diet, and they averaged 1.40, 1.35 and 1.30 mg, respectively. On the other hand, plain diet and diet with the addition of the whole pheromone blend showed the smallest increase in nymph weight (0.37 and 0.6 mg, respectively). The results also demonstrated that sex pheromone of P. nigrispinus can improve feeding stimulation on nymphs, proven to be of some value in the location process of artificial food by the species.
