RESUMO: O uso da mecanização na cafeicultura tem se mostrado de suma importância na colheita do cafeeiro, reduzindo custo e tempo desta operação. Entretanto, a intensificação da colheita mecanizada, sem o controle dos riscos ocupacionais tem exposto trabalhadores aos níveis elevados de ruído ocupacional capazes de comprometer sua saúde auditiva. O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar o nível de ruído ocupacional emitido por colhedoras automotrizes na colheita do cafeeiro, bem como os limites de exposição e nível de ação do operador e auxiliar. Para as avaliações foram utilizadas três colhedoras automotrizes: Case-IH® modelo COFFE EXPESS 200, com cabine; OXBO® modelo 9220, com cabine; KORVAN® modelo 9200, sem cabine. A coleta dos dados foi realizada utilizando dosímetro de ruído modelo DOS-700. Foi avaliado o nível de exposição ao ruído do operador e auxiliar das colhedoras. Foram realizadas cinco repetições, sendo cada repetição formada por duas horas de avaliações. Os dados obtidos foram comparados com o nível de ação e limite de exposição das normativas NHO 01 e NR 15. O nível de ação das normativas NHO 01 (82 dB) e NR 15 (80 dB) foram ultrapassados no operador e auxiliar nas três colhedoras avaliadas. Em relação ao limite de exposição (85 dB), o nível foi ultrapassado no operador das colhedoras KORVAN® e Case-IH® de acordo com a NHO 01. Na normativa NR 15, o limite de exposição ficou acima de 85 dB no operador da colhedora KORVAN®. No auxiliar todas as colhedoras emitiram níveis de ruídos acima de 85 dB tanto na normativa NHO 01 quanto na NR 15.

ABSTRACT: This study evaluated the level of occupational noise emitted by automotive harvesters during coffee harvest. For the evaluations, three self-propelled harvesters were used: Case-IH® model Coffee Express 200, with cabin; Korvan® model 9200, without cabin; and Oxbo® model 9220, with cabin. Data were collected using a noise dosimeter model DOS-700. Noise levels were assessed for the operator and assistant of each harvester. Five repetitions were performed for the operator and assistant, with each repetition consisting of 2 h of evaluation. Results obtained were compared with the action level and exposure limit of the Regulatory Norms (NR) 15 and Occupational Hygiene Norms (NHO) 01. The action levels of the NHO 01 (82 dB) and NR 15 (80 dB) regulations were exceeded for the operator and assistant in the three evaluated harvesters. Regarding the exposure limit (85 dB), the level was exceeded for the operator of the Korvan® and Case-IH® harvesters in accordance with NHO 01. In the NR 15 regulation, the exposure limit was > 85 dB for the operator of the Korvan® harvester. For the assistant, all harvesters emitted noise levels > 85 dB based on both the NHO 01 and NR 15 regulations.

Resumo O patamar de desenvolvimento industrial das nações pode ser inferido pelo domínio tecnológico e produtivo de um país e da sua estrutura produtiva local. Estes elementos são também importantes para determinar a competitividade das nações e a sua participação no comércio internacional. O artigo avalia empiricamente como o desenvolvimento da indústria farmacêutica está associado às mudanças nos padrões de especialização na rede de comércio mundial de medicamentos para investigar a coevolução de tais dimensões tendo em vista o arcabouço das políticas industriais de três países distintos: Irlanda, Índia e Brasil. Os principais resultados, obtidos pelo método de Análise de Redes, mostram que Índia e Irlanda, diferente do Brasil, adotaram políticas mais consistentes e contínuas, essenciais para o sucesso de uma estratégia de desenvolvimento do setor, mensurado por seus papéis na rede de comércio mundial de medicamentos. Além disso, os resultados deixam evidente que a abertura comercial não é condição suficiente para um país alçar patamares superiores de competitividade.

Abstract The level of industrial development of a nation can be inferred by the technological and productive domain of the country and its local productive structure. These elements are also important to determine the competitiveness of nations and their participation in international trade. The article empirically assesses how the development of the pharmaceutical industry is associated with changes in the patterns of specialization in the global medicines trade network to investigate the co-evolution of such dimensions in view of the industrial policy framework of three different countries: Ireland, India, and Brazil. The main results, obtained via the Network Analysis method, show that India and Ireland, unlike Brazil, have adopted more consistent and long-term policies, essential for the success of a sector development strategy, measured by their roles in the world trade network of medicines. Furthermore, the results make it clear that trade opening is not a sufficient condition for a country to reach higher levels of competitiveness.

Resumo Objetivos Identificar a prevalência do início da atividade sexual em adolescentes e a prática de sexo seguro entre os mesmos. Método Estudo transversal realizado com 499 adolescentes, em Pouso Alegre, Minas Gerais, de fevereiro a abril de 2017, por meio de um questionário autoaplicado e semiestruturado, contemplando iniciação, práticas sexuais, conhecimento sobre contracepção, prevenção de infecções sexualmente transmissíveis e participação em atividades educativas sobre o tema. Os dados foram analisados por estatística descritiva, as diferenças estatísticas avaliadas pelo teste X2 de Pearson. Resultados A prevalência da atividade sexual foi 47,3%, com idade média da sexarca de 14,1 anos, e tendência de iniciação sexual precoce no sexo masculino. Um terço das primeiras relações sexuais foram desprotegidas (33,9%). As participantes do sexo feminino apresentavam maior conhecimento a respeito de contracepção e prevenção de doenças, menor adesão ao uso de preservativos e maior utilização de contraceptivos orais e de emergência. Conclusão e implicações para a prática O estudo mostrou início precoce de vida sexual entre adolescentes, e um terço das relações sexuais sem proteção. Há necessidade de ações de saúde e educação que garantam a aquisição de conhecimento e acesso a métodos contraceptivos.

Abstract Objective Identify the prevalence of sexual activity initiation in adolescents and the practice of safe sex among them. Method A cross-sectional study carried out with 499 adolescents in Porto Alegre, Minas Gerais, from February to April 2017, using a self-administered and semi-structured questionnaire, covering sexual initiation and practices, knowledge about contraceptive methods, prevention of sexually transmitted infections and participation in educational activities on the theme. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the statistical differences were assessed using Pearson's X2 test. Results The prevalence of sexual activity was 47.3%, with a mean age of 14.1 years old at first sexual intercourse, and a tendency for early sexual initiation in the male gender. One third of the first sexual intercourses were unprotected (33.9%). Female participants had greater knowledge about contraceptive methods and disease prevention, lower adherence to condom use and greater use of oral and emergency contraceptives. Conclusion and implications for the practice The study showed an early initiation of sexual life among adolescents, and one third of unprotected sexual intercourses. There is a need for health and education actions that guarantee the acquisition of knowledge and access to contraceptive methods.

Resumen Objetivos Identificar la prevalencia de la actividad sexual en adolescentes y la práctica de sexo seguro entre ellos. Método Estudio transversal realizado con 499 adolescentes, de febrero a abril de 2017, por medio de un cuestionario autoadministrado y semiestructurado, que abarca la iniciación sexual y las prácticas, conocimiento sobre métodos anticonceptivos, prevención de infecciones de transmisión sexual y participación en actividades educativas sobre el tema. Los datos se analizaron mediante estadística descriptiva y las diferencias estadísticas se evaluaron mediante la prueba X2 de Pearson. Resultados La prevalencia de la actividad sexual fue del 47,3%, con una edad promedio de la primera relación sexual de 14,1 años y una tendencia a la iniciación sexual temprana entre los participantes masculinos. Un tercio de las primeras relaciones sexuales fueron desprotegidas (33,9%). Las mujeres participantes tenían mayor conocimiento sobre los métodos anticonceptivos y prevención de enfermedades, menos adherencia al uso del condón y mayor uso de anticonceptivos orales y de emergencia. Conclusión e implicaciones para la práctica El estudio mostró un inicio temprano de la vida sexual entre un grupo de adolescentes y un tercio de las relaciones sexuales sin protección. Se advierte la necesidad de llevar a cabo acciones en materia de salud y educación que garanticen la adquisición de conocimiento y el acceso a métodos anticonceptivos.

resumo: Este estudo envolveu a análise de várias areias naturais para verificar as possíveis causas de manifestações patológicas pela ASR. As análises foram realizadas utilizando as seguintes técnicas: difratometria de raios X, testes acelerados de barra de argamassa (AMBT), a difração de elétrons retroespalhados e as análises químicas elementares, por FEG-SEM / EBSD / EDS. Esses experimentos permitiram identificar a presença de vários compósitos minerais (como microclina, anortita, entre outros), bem como os planos microestruturais-cristalográficos de quartzo (como o tipo Dauphiné). Dos resultados se pode inferir que as múltiplas técnicas utilizadas, especialmente a FEG-SEM/EBSD, mostraram ser promissoras na análise da reatividade potencial de areais para uso em argamassas e concretos de cimento Portland.

abstract: This study involved analyzing several natural sands to ascertain the possible causes for distress due to ASR. The analyses were performed using the following techniques: X-ray diffractometry, accelerated mortar bar tests (AMBT), electron backscattering diffraction and elementary chemistry analyses, by FEG-SEM/EBSD/EDS. These experiments allowed identifying the presence of several mineral composites (such as microcline, anorthite, among others), as well as the microstructural-crystallographic planes of quartz (such as the Dauphiné type). From the results it could be inferred that the multiple techniques used, especially the FEG-SEM / EBSD, proved to be promising in the analysis of the ASR potential of sands for use in Portland cement mortars and concretes.

RESUMO Introdução Indivíduos com esquizofrenia tendem a apresentar níveis elevados de cortisol e alterações no mecanismo serotoninérgico. Entretanto, os efeitos dos exercícios aeróbicos sobre os níveis de cortisol e serotonina em pacientes esquizofrênicos não estão bem estabelecidos. Objetivos Avaliar os efeitos de um programa de treinamento aeróbico sobre os níveis de serotonina e cortisol em pacientes esquizofrênicos internados. Métodos Trinta indivíduos esquizofrênicos foram randomicamente designados para um grupo de exercícios (GE; n = 15; idade: 29 ± 9,08 anos; IMC: 23,57 ± 4,33 kg/m2) ou para um grupo controle (GC; n = 15; idade: 33,17 ± 12,8 anos, IMC: 22,89 ± 5,68 kg/m2). O GE realizou um programa de treinamento aeróbico em cicloergômetro (57% a 67% da frequência cardíaca máxima) por 30 minutos, cinco dias por semana, totalizando 20 sessões. A análise de cortisol (método quimioluminescente) e serotonina (cromatografia líquida de alta eficiência) foi realizada antes e depois do teste em ambos os grupos. O nível de significância foi de p < 0,05. Resultados Depois das sessões de exercício, o GE mostrou redução significativa do nível de cortisol (Δ = -5,68 mcg/dl%, p < 0,0001) e aumento significativo do nível de serotonina (Δ = 47,63 ng/ml, p = 0,015) em comparação com o GC. Conclusão O programa de treinamento aeróbico foi efetivo para a redução dos níveis de cortisol e aumento dos níveis de serotonina em pacientes esquizofrênicos. ABSTRACT Introduction Individuals with schizophrenia tend to have high levels of cortisol and changes in the serotonergic mechanism. However, the effects of aerobic exercises on cortisol and serotonin levels in schizophrenic inpatients are not well established. Objective To evaluate the effects of an aerobic training program on serotonin and cortisol levels in schizophrenic inpatients. Methods Thirty schizophrenic subjects were randomly assigned to an exercise group (EG; n = 15; age: 29 ± 9.08 years; BMI: 23.57 ± 4.33 kg/m2) or a control group (CG; n = 15; age: 33.17 ± 12.8 years; BMI: 22.89 ± 5.68 kg/m2). EG performed an aerobic training program in a cycle ergometer (57% to 67% of the maximum heart rate) for 30 minutes, five days a week, with a total of twenty sessions. The analysis of cortisol (Chemiluminescence Method) and serotonin (High Performance Liquid Chromatography) was performed before and after testing in both groups. The level of significance was of p<0.05. Results After the exercise sessions, EG showed a significant reduction in cortisol levels (Δ = -5.68 mcg/dl%, p < 0.0001) and a significant increase in serotonin levels (Δ = 47.63 ng/ml, p = 0.015) compared to CG. Conclusion The aerobic training program was effective in reducing cortisol levels and increasing serotonin levels in schizophrenic inpatients. Level of evidence I; Randomized clinical trial.

Objetivos Evaluar los efectos de un programa de entrenamiento aeróbico sobre los niveles de serotonina y cortisol en pacientes esquizofrénicos internados. Métodos Treinta individuos esquizofrénicos fueron asignados aleatoriamente a un grupo de ejercicio (GE; n = 15; edad: 29 ± 9,08 años; IMC: 23,57 ± 4,33 kg/m2) o a un grupo control (GC; n = 15; edad: 33,17 ± 12,8 años, IMC: 22,89 ± 5,68 kg/m2). Scientists have increasingly recognised that low methodological and analytical rigour combined with publish-or-perish incentives can make the published scientific literature unreliable. As a response to this, large-scale systematic replications of the literature have emerged as a way to assess the problem empirically. The Brazilian Reproducibility Initiative is one such effort, aimed at estimating the reproducibility of Brazilian biomedical research. Its goal is to perform multicentre replications of a quasi-random sample of at least 60 experiments from Brazilian articles published over a 20-year period, using a set of common laboratory methods. In this article, we describe the challenges of managing a multicentre project with collaborating teams across the country, as well as its successes and failures over the first two years. We end with a brief discussion of the Initiative’s current status and its possible future contributions after the project is concluded in 2021.

ABSTRACT This study was conducted to investigate the effect of selective feeding habits on the quality of the ingested diet and the effect of feed restriction on the selectivity and behavior of goats in feedlots. Differences were found only in the amount of feed given to the animals, with a difference in the amount of feed rejected as a function of the nutritional level. Higher levels of orts were measured for those animals that received the ad libitum diet. For the composition of orts, differences were measured only in the ether extract fraction. Animals fed the ad libitum diet increased their intake of ether extract and energy, crude fiber, neutral detergent fiber, and acid detergent fiber. Thus, they had a preference for consuming the fibrous and energetic portions of the diet to the detriment of the mineral matter. The granulometry influenced the leftovers for the male and female treatments only in the diet that contained the 2.00- and 0.063-mm sized particles, with larger leftovers for the females. There were statistical differences as a function of feeding level for time spent in rumination, with stereotypical behavior, and in time spent standing up or lying down. As a function of sex, the differences were the same variables, including the time spent with agonistic behavior. Animals that received the ad libitum diet had a greater gain and final weight, whereas the animals that received the 60% restricted diet had the lowest performance, as did the females. Feed restriction changed the natural feeding behavior of goats, with smaller feed particles preferred. The feed restriction and sex also influenced the time spent on nonproductive activities, and the animals became more restless, with females having a higher social behavior than males.

Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar os efeitos da radiação ultravioleta (UV) e da salinidade da água sobre a nitrificação, a qualidade da água, a carga bacteriana e o crescimento de juvenis de tilápia, em sistemas de aquicultura com recirculação de água (SRAs). O período experimental foi dividido em duas fases. A primeira durou 20 dias e avaliou os efeitos da salinidade (0 e 2 g L-1) e radiação UV (com ou sem) sobre a qualidade da água, durante o período de colonização do substrato por bactérias nitrificantes. Na segunda fase, após estocagem dos juvenis de tilápia, avaliaram-se os efeitos dos mesmos fatores experimentais sobre a qualidade da água, a carga bacteriana e o desempenho dos peixes. Os SRAs empregados foram eficientes na remoção da amônia, independentemente dos tratamentos utilizados. Durante o período experimental, as concentrações de nitrito aumentaram de forma linear, com um aumento mais acentuado após o armazenamento dos peixes até 30 dias do experimento. Não houve efeitos significativos da UV, da salinidade ou da interação de ambas sobre amônia total, nitrito e alcalinidade. Os baixos níveis de salinidade (2 g L-1) e UV não afetaram o processo de nitrificação e o desempenho dos peixes. O uso da UV é eficiente na redução da carga bacteriana dos sistemas de aquicultura com recirculação de água.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the effects of ultraviolet radiation (UV) and water salinity on nitrification, water quality, bacterial load, and juvenile tilapia growth in recirculating aquaculture systems (RASs). The experimental period was divided into two phases. The first one lasted 20 days and evaluated the effects of salinity (0 and 2 g L-1) and UV (with or without) on water quality during the period of substrate colonization by nitrifying bacteria. In the second phase, after the storage of juvenile tilapia, the effects of the same experimental factors were evaluated on water quality, bacterial load, and fish growth performance. The RASs employed were efficient for ammonia removal, regardless of the treatments used. During the experimental period, the nitrite concentrations increased linearly, with a more pronounced increase after fish storage until 30 days of the experiment. There were no significant effects of UV, salinity, or the interaction of both on total ammonia, nitrite, and alkalinity. The low levels of salinity (2 g L-1) and UV did not affect the nitrification process and fish performance. The use of UV is efficient to reduce the bacterial load of recirculating aquaculture systems.

Abstract The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of successive bovine testicular punctures using different needle sizes. Fifteen bulls were submitted to testicular needle aspiration (TNA) in the left and right testis using 18-gauge (40×12mm) or 22-gauge (25×7mm) needles, respectively, once every 30 days. Animals were randomly divided into three groups, which were submitted to bilateral orchiectomy two days after the last puncture. Group 1 (G1): only one puncture (n=5); Group 2 (G2): three consecutive punctures in a period of three months (n=5); Group 3 (G3): six consecutive punctures in a period of 6 months (n=5). Fragments from the medial portion of the testicular parenchyma were excised and fixed in Bouin’s fluid for histological analysis. No differences were observed in the percentage of seminiferous tubules degeneration between G1, G2 and G3 (P>0.05). Higher amounts of erythrocyte were found in G1 and G2 groups compared to G3, in the intra- and intertubular tissue (P<0.05). There was no interaction between the needle gauge and the occurrence of testicular damage in animals submitted to one (G1) or three (G2) punctures. However, a higher percentage of tubular degeneration was associated to 18-gauge compared to 22-gauge fine needles in G3. In conclusion, multiple testicular needle aspiration can be safely conducted using fine needles. Large needles are recommended only for a single TNA, since multiple punctures may result in increased tubular degeneration and compromise testicular architecture and functionality.

RESUMO A gestão do ambiente de jogo coloca o/a árbitro/a em uma posição de destaque no esporte. Contudo, nesse contexto a arbitragem consiste em uma atividade exposta a situações de violência. Em competições em nível escolar, as pesquisas nesse campo ainda são incipientes. Assim, o objetivo do estudo foi reconhecer a violência percebida por árbitros/as no contexto dos jogos escolares da juventude. Lança mão de uma abordagem qualitativa de caráter exploratório, e fora realizado na fase estadual dos jogos em 2016 no estado de Mato Grosso. Participaram da pesquisa árbitros/as (n=19), das categorias a e b. Foram realizadas entrevistas, registradas em um gravador digital (sonyⓇ icd-px 312) e transcritas na íntegra. Enquanto procedimento analítico empregou-se a análise de conteúdo, usando o software nvivoⓇ10. Com base nos resultados, observou-se que todos/as sofreram ou vivenciaram algum tipo de violência, bem como relativizam-na considerando o contexto investigado. Revelou-se também a fragilidade no sistema de controle dessas situações, atribuindo ao/a árbitro/a a exclusiva responsabilidade pela gestão do ambiente de competição. Em resposta a problemática, uma das possibilidades seria abordar o papel do/a árbitro/a como conteúdo do processo de formação de jovens no esporte, nesse sentido, deverão compreender que são corresponsáveis pela formação esportiva.

ABSTRACT The role of managing the game environment places the referee in a prominent position in sport. However, in the sport context, arbitration is highly exposed to violence.Referees occupy a prominent position in sport, having the responsibility to manage the game, and are therefore exposed to violence episodes. Research addressing violence in school competitions is still incipient; thus, the objective of this study was to identify the violence perceived by referees in youth school games. A qualitative exploratory study was performed in the state games held in 2016 in the state of Mato Grosso. The study surveyed 19 referees of categories a and b. The interviews were recorded using a digital recorder (SonyⓇ icd-px312) and the content was analyzed using software nvivoⓇ10. The results revealed that all referees have witnessed or been victims of different types of violence, confirming the fragility of the violence control system, which attributes exclusively to the referee the responsibility to manage the competition environment. Addressing the referee’s role as a content in the sport youth formation would largely contribute to the development of sport education.

Abstract Sarcoidosis is a rare multisystem chronic inflammatory disease in children. We present a case of a five-year-old child with clinical features mimicking several diseases, including tuberculosis. After failure of treatment based on the suspected diagnosis, an axillary lymph node biopsy showed noncaseating granulomas compatible with sarcoidosis and appropriate treatment was then started.

Abstract Visceral leishmaniasis is a systemic disease that is potentially severe and endemic in Brazil. It clinically manifests as fever, weight loss, swelling, hepatosplenomegaly, paleness, and edema. In this study, we discuss a case of a 1-year-old child diagnosed with refractory visceral leishmaniasis after being treated with liposomal amphotericin B in two distinct occasions. Considering the persistent clinical features and weak response to conventional treatment, a combination therapy with liposomal amphotericin B (ambisome), n-methylglucamine antimoniate (glucantime), and pentamidine isethionate was initiated, and response to treatment was good.

ABSTRACT The water treatment process generates a residue called water treatment plant (WTP) sludge, which needs to be correctly characterized to ensure appropriate disposal or reuse. This study aimed to characterize the centrifuged sludge produced at the Tamanduá WTP, Iguaçu Falls City, Brazil, and considered opportunities for its reuse in the production of concrete for the civil construction industry. Wet sludge (sludge in its natural form) analysis included the determination of total solids, moisture content, density, pH, and inorganic parameters (As, Al, Ba, Cd, Pb, Cr, F, Hg, Ag, and Se) through thermogravimetric analysis, X-ray diffraction, and chemical analysis by X-ray fluorescence and loss ignition. For calcined WTP sludge, chemical and mineralogical composition and laser granulometry were evaluated. The results indicated that calcined sludge had the potential to be used in the production of cement materials; conversely wet sludge did not reach the appropriate safety standards due to the high quantity of organic matter.

Abstract This paper presents an application of fuzzy control technique in order to control pressure at entrance of a Water Distribution Pilot Network (RPDA, for its acronym in spanish), mesh with several points of consumption. Same is pressurized by a pump and motor assembly has power variation, which makes it difficult to stabilize control. Fuzzy controller implemented in system selects an optimum condition of operation regarding pressures available and engine output while maintaining pressure for network to meet demand. Evaluation of operating system energy gain with controller action was performed in comparison with operating system without control. Based on these results, fuzzy controller was satisfactory in controlling operating pressure during operation of distribution network.

Resumen Este trabajo se presenta una aplicación de la técnica de control difuso con el objetivo de controlar la presión en la entrada de una Red Piloto de Distribución de Agua (RPDA), malla, con diversos puntos de consumo. La misma se encuentra presurizada por un conjunto motor bomba y presenta variación del consumo, lo que dificulta la estabilización del control. El controlador difuso implantado en el sistema selecciona una condición excelente de operación referente a las presiones disponibles y el rendimiento del motor, manteniendo las presiones de la red constantes, para atender la demanda. La evaluación del logro energético del sistema operando con la acción del controlador fue realizada en comparación con el sistema operando sin control. De acuerdo a los resultados obtenidos, el controlador difuso fue considerado satisfactorio en el control de la presión del servicio durante la operación de la red de distribución.
