Abstract Ornamental plants play a fundamental role in diverse applications, from cut flower production to landscape design and space decoration. The ornamental industry, which is part of horticulture, has experienced significant advances and mobilizes billions of dollars in the global economy, being also a totally globalized market. In recent years, this industry has implemented advanced production strategies, from genetic improvement to sustainability and supply chain, promoting scientific research in various areas. However, the dispersion of knowledge has hindered the integration of the various research networks. Therefore, this article seeks to provide an overview of the scientific production in the cut flower sector, establishing a reference line for researchers, using bibliometrics as a tool to identify trends and the scientific structure of this area of knowledge. The results revealed that worldwide since 1983 there have been 975 articles focused on this productive system, gene rated in more than 69 countries by 2750 authors who published their research in 160 academic journals. Relevant research topics that are already developed and those that need a more intense and integrated research focus on the knowledge already generated were also identified.

Resumo As plantas ornamentais desempenham um papel fundamental em diversas aplicações, desde a produção de flores de corte até o projeto paisagístico e a decoração de espaços. O setor de ornamentais, que faz parte da horticultura, tem experimentado avanços significativos e mobiliza bilhões de dólares na economia global, sendo também um mercado totalmente globalizado. Nos últimos anos, esse setor implementou estratégias avançadas de produção, desde o melhoramento genético até a sustentabilidade e a cadeia de suprimentos, promovendo pesquisas científicas em diversas áreas. No entanto, a dispersão do conhecimento tem dificultado a integração das diversas redes de pesquisa. Portanto, este artigo procura fornecer uma visão geral da produção científica no setor de flores de corte, estabelecendo uma linha de referência para pesquisadores, usando a bibliometria como ferramenta para identificar tendências e a estrutura científica dessa área de conhecimento. Os resultados revelaram que, em todo o mundo, desde 1983, houve 975 artigos focados nesse sistema produtivo, gerados em mais de 69 países por 2750 autores que publicaram suas pesquisas em 160 revistas acadêmicas. Também foram identificados tópicos de pesquisa relevantes que já estão desenvolvidos e aqueles que precisam de um foco de pesquisa mais intenso e integrado ao conhecimento já gerado.

ABSTRACT This case describes the color selection criteria for indirect lithium disilicate restorations in the anterior sector. A 34-year-old woman treated at the Faculty of Dentistry of the National University of Concepción (FOUNC), Paraguay, due to an aesthetic concern in the anterior sector, especially the difference in color of the teeth. The rehabilitation consisted of making lithium disilicate crowns for teeth 11, 12, 13, 14, 21, 22, 24, 25 and laminate for veneers for tooth 23. Individualized color selection techniques, color and cementation prior to final cementation for highly esthetic results. Thanks to the results, it was possible to observe the conjunction of factors such as the correct selection of the color of the dental substrate, the resinous cement, the restorative material, and efficient communication with the laboratory, essential for the success of the treatment.

RESUMEN Mediante este caso se describen los criterios de selección del color en restauraciones indirectas con disilicato de litio en el sector anterior. Mujer de 34 años, atendida en la Facultad de Odontología de la Universidad Nacional de Concepción (FOUNC), Paraguay, por una preocupación estética del sector anterior, en especial la diferencia de color de las piezas dentarias. La rehabilitación consistió en la confección de coronas de disilicato de litio de las piezas 11, 12, 13, 14, 21, 22, 24, 25 y laminado para carillas de la pieza 23. Fueron aplicadas técnicas de selección de color individualizadas, pruebas de color y cementación antes del cementado final para obtener resultados altamente estéticos. Gracias a los resultados fue posible observar la conjunción de factores como la correcta selección del color del sustrato dentario, el cemento resinoso, el material de restauración y la comunicación eficiente con el laboratorio, fundamental para el éxito del tratamiento.

Abstract Objective: To assess the predictive value of selected growth phenotypes for neonatal morbidity and mortality in preterm infants < 30 weeks and to compare them with INTERGROWTH-21st (IG21). Methods: Retrospective analysis of data from the Brazilian Neonatal Research Network (BNRN) database for very low birth weight (VLBW) at 20 public tertiary-care university hospitals. Outcome: the composite neonatal morbidity and mortality (CNMM) consisted of in-hospital death, oxygen use at 36 weeks, intraventricular hemorrhage grade 3 or 4, and Bell stage 2 or 3 necrotizing enterocolitis. Selected growth phenotypes: small-for-gestational-age (SGA) defined as being < 3rd (SGA3) or 10th (SGA10) percentiles of BW, and large-for-gestational-age (LGA) as being > 97th percentile of BW. Stunting as being < 3rd percentile of the length and wasting as being < 3rd percentile of BMI. Single and multiple log-binomial regression models were fitted to estimate the relative risks of CNMM, comparing them to IG21. Results: 4,072 infants were included. The adjusted relative risks of CNMM associated with selected growth phenotypes were (BNRN/IG21): 1.45 (0.92–2.31)/1.60 (1.27–2.02) for SGA; 0.90 (0.55–1.47)/1.05 (0.55–1.99) for LGA; 1.65 (1.08–2.51)/1.58 (1.28–1.96) for stunting; and 1.48 (1.02–2.17) for wasting. Agreement between the two references was variable. The growth phenotypes had good specificity (>95%) and positive predictive value (70-90%), with poor sensitivity and low negative predictive value. Conclusion: The BNRN phenotypes at birth differed markedly from the IG21 standard and showed poor accuracy in predicting adverse neonatal outcomes.

Resumen El presente estudio tuvo por objetivo comparar los parámetros antropométricos y de composición corporal en futbolistas profesionales en cinco temporadas. Se efectuó un estudio transversal (comparativo). Se estudió a 120 futbolistas, donde cada cohorte por año se evaluó a 24 futbolistas. El rango de edad fue de 18 a 37 años. Se evaluó a los futbolistas al inicio de cada temporada en los años 2012 a 2016: Se midió el peso, la estatura, seis pliegues cutáneos (Tríceps, subescapular, supra-iliaco, abdominal, muslo y pantorrilla). Se calculó el Índice de Masa corporal IMC, % de grasa, la masa grasa y masa libre de grasa MLG. El tejido adiposo se agrupó en tres grupos (brazo: (tricpes+subescapular, tronco: suprailiaco+abdominal, Piernas: muslo+pantorrilla). Hubo diferencias en el peso corporal, la estatura, la sumatoria de los 6 pliegues y la MLG a lo largo de los 5 años. [año 2012 (Peso: 76,6±7.8kg, estatura: 177.6±5.7cm, Pliegues: 58.7±12.8mm, MLG: 64.5±6.3mm), año 2013: (Peso: 77.8±6.4kg, Estatura: 178,4±4.4, Pliegues: 60.1±15.9mm, MLG:66.3±3.5mm), año 2014: (Peso: 74.9±5.7kg, Estatura: 177.0±5.8cm, Pliegues: 54.4±14.7mm, MLG: 64.5±4.5kg), año 2015: (Peso: 74.1±6.8kg, Estatura: 176.1±5.5cm, Pliegues: 54.9±15.6mm, MLG: 63.8±4.6kg), año 2016: (Peso: 72.7±kg, Estatura: 175.3±6.9kg, Pliegues: 50.8±12.mm, MLG: 62.8±5.9kg)]. Este estudio verificó que el perfil antropométrico y el tejido adiposo de los futbolistas fueron disminuyendo en cada temporada, mientras que la MLG reflejó similares valores en cada uno de las cohortes evaluadas.

Foi realizado um estudo transversal (comparativo). Foi estudado um total de 120 jogadores de futebol, onde cada coorte por ano foram avaliados 24 jogadores. A faixa etária era de 18 a 37 anos. Os futebolistas foram avaliados no início de cada temporada, nos anos de 2012 a 2016. Foram medidas altura, peso, seis dobras da pele (tríceps, subescapular, supra ilíaca, abdominal, coxa e calcanhar). Foram calculados índice de massa corporal IMC, % de gordura, massa de gordura e massa livre de gordura MLG. O tecido adiposo foi agrupado em três grupos (braço: tríceps + subescapular, tronco: suprailíaco + abdominal, pernas: coxa + calcanhar). Houve diferenças no peso corporal, na altura, a soma de 6 dobras e a MLG ao longo dos 5 anos: ano 2012 (Peso: 76,6±7,8kg, Altura: 177,6±5,7cm, Dobras: 58,7±12,8mm, GLM: 64,5±6,3mm), ano 2013 (Peso: 77,8±6,4kg, Altura: 178,4±4,4, Dobras: 60,1±15,9mm, GLM:66,3±3.5mm), ano 2014 (Peso: 74,9±5,7kg, Altura: 177,0±5,8cm, Dobras: 54,4±14,7mm, GLM: 64,5±4,5kg), ano 2015 (Peso: 74,1±6,8kg, Altura: 176,1±5,5cm, Dobras: 54,9±15,6mm, GLM: 63,8±4,6kg), ano 2016 (Peso: 72,7±kg, Altura: 175,3±6,9kg, Dobras: 50,8±12,mm, GLM: 62,8±5,9kg). Este estudo verificou que o perfil antropométrico e o tecido adiposo dos jogadores de futebol diminuíram em cada temporada, enquanto que a MLG refletiu valores similares em cada um dos coortes avaliados.

Abstract The present cross-sectional (comparative) study aimed to compare the anthropometric and body composition parameters in professional soccer players over five seasons. It was conducted on 120 soccer players grouped in a cohort of 24 subjects per year. The age range was 18 to 37 years. The footballers were evaluated at the beginning of each season from 2012 to 2016; weight, height, six skin folds (triceps, subscapularis, supra-iliac, abdominal, thigh, and calf) were evaluated from 2012 to 2015. The Body Mass Index (BMI), fat percentage, fat mass, and FFM were calculated. The adipose tissue was grouped into three groups: arm (triceps + subscapular), trunk (supra iliac + abdominal), and legs (thigh + calf). Body weight, height, the sum of the 6 folds, and the MLG varied during the 5 years. For 2012 the results were the following: Weight, 76.6 ± 7.8kg; Height, 177.6 ± 5.7cm; Folds, 58.7 ± 12.8mm; MLG, 64.5 ± 6.3mm). In 2013, these were the results: Weight, 77.8 ± 6.4kg; Height, 178, 4 ± 4.4; Folds, 60.1 ± 15.9mm; MLG, 66.3 ± 3.5mm). These were the measures obtained in 2014: Weight, 74.9 ± 5.7kg; Height, 177.0 ± 5.8cm; Folds, 54.4 ± 14.7mm; MLG, 64.5 ± 4.5kg ). And these were of the year 2015: Weight, 74.1 ± 6.8kg; Height, 176.1 ± 5.5cm; Folds, 54.9 ± 15.6mm; MLG, 63.8 ± 4.6kg). Finally, in 2016 these were the measures collected: Weight, 72.7 ± kg; Height, 175.3 ± 6.9 kg; Folds, 50.8 ± 12.mm; MLG, 62.8 ± 5.9kg. This study verified that the soccer players' anthropometric profile and adipose tissue decreased each season, while the MLG reflected similar values in each of the evaluated cohorts.

Abstract The technology and research relationship is considerable at the time of presenting results, where scientific popularization magazines have the sole purpose of transmitting information to the community in general, where each research expert can capture the results of their studies considering the policies of each dissemination platform. From this perspective, the objective of this work was to know how the Padlet tool influences the dissemination of results generated from the training practice carried out in university training. The methodology used in this study was based on the inductive-deductive method, pragmatic paradigm, hybrid approach, sequential explanatory design, and sequential type. Where 96 university students participated who attended the ordinary academic period 2021, to whom a Likert scale-based survey was applied as an instrument, in addition to direct observation and bibliographic review. The results, elaboration, and dissemination of approximately 40 academic works will be observed, presented from the Padlet tool, and used to disseminate results. In conclusion, the means of disseminating research work are essential today to direct the dissemination of academic writing to optimize the education process at various educational institutions.

Resumen La relación tecnología e investigación es considerable, al momento de presentar resultados, donde las revistas de divulgación científica tienen como única finalidad transmitir información a la comunidad en general donde cada experto investigativo puede plasmar los resultados de sus estudios considerando las políticas de cada plataforma de divulgación. Desde esta perspectiva el objetivo del presente trabajo fue conocer cómo influye la herramienta Padlet en los procesos de difusión de resultados generados desde la practica formativa realizada en la capacitación universitaria. La metodología utilizada en este estudio se basó bajo el método inductivo-deductivo, paradigma pragmático, enfoque mixto, diseño explicativo secuencial y de tipo secuencial. Donde participaron 96 estudiantes universitarios quienes cursaban el periodo académico ordinario 2021 a quienes se les aplicó como instrumentos una encuesta basada en escala de Likert, además de la observación directa y la revisión bibliográfica. Dentro de los resultados se logró observar la elaboración y difusión de aproximadamente 40 trabajos académicos los cuales fueron presentados desde la herramienta Padlet siendo utilizada como medio de presentación en la difusión de resultados. En conclusión, los medios de difusión de trabajos investigativos son importantes en la actualidad, a fin de direccionar la divulgación del escrito académico con la intencionalidad de optimizar el proceso de educación en los diversos niveles de las instituciones educativas.

Abstract The litterfall that accumulates in the forest soil and its further decomposition play an important roll in the maintenance of productivity in different terrestrial ecosystems since its constitute the main flow of nutrients to the soil. The objective of this study was to evaluate the production of litterfall, its nutrient return thru litterfall deposition and macronutrient use efficiency. The study was conducted in Linares, Crucitas and Los Ramones, state of Nuevo León, México. Average litterfall deposition was 5 800, 5 270 and 6 596 kg ha−1 year−1 for Linares, Crucitas and Los Ramones, respectively. Total nutrient return thru litterfall followed the sequence: Linares > Crucitas > Los Ramones, with value of 135, 122 and 101 kg ha−1 year−1, respectively. Even though the return of P thru litterfall was the lowest, P nutrient use efficiency was higher with respect to Ca, Mg and K. Greatest nutrient use efficiency in terms of Ca and Mg was observed in Los Ramones, K in Crucitas and P in Linares. The results showed that there exist spatial and temporal variation in the production of litterfall, nutrient return and nutrient use efficiency between studied sites. Thus, litterfall deposition, nutrient return and nutrient use efficiency between sites depend on stand composition and richness, edaphic properties, litterfall quality, and plant phenology.

Resumen La hojarasca que se acumula sobre el piso forestal y su posterior descomposición juegan un papel importante en el mantenimiento de la productividad de los diferentes ecosistemas terrestres al constituir el principal flujo de nutrientes al suelo. El objetivo del estudio fue evaluar la producción de hojarasca y retorno de nutrientes a través de la caída de la hojarasca y la eficiencia en el uso de macro-nutrientes. El estudio se realizó en los sitios de Linares, Crucitas y Los Ramones, en el Estado de Nuevo León, México. El promedio de caída de hojarasca fue de 5 800, 5 270 a 6 596 kg ha−1 año−1 para Linares, Crucitas y Los Ramones, respectivamente. El retorno total de nutrientes siguió la secuencia: Linares > Crucitas > Los Ramones con valores de 135, 122 y 101 kg ha−1 año−1, respectivamente. A pesar de que el retorno de P en la hojarasca fue menor, la eficiencia del uso de este nutriente fue mayor que la presentada por el Ca, Mg ó K. La mayor eficiencia de uso de nutrientes en términos de Ca y Mg se observó en Los Ramones, el K en Crucitas y el P en linares. Existe variación espacial y temporal en la producción de hojarasca, retorno de nutrientes y la eficiencia en su uso entre los sitios evaluados. Por tanto, la caída de hojarasca, retorno de nutrientes y uso eficiente en estos sitios dependen de la riqueza de especies, diferencias edáficas, calidad de la hojarasca y fenología de las diferentes especies.

Resumen Introducción: Una evaluación completa de citometría en el paciente enfermo crítico muestra modificaciones en las líneas celulares que estiman la gravedad y la mortalidad en la sepsis. El objetivo de este estudio es determinar la utilidad de diferentes parámetros e índices citométricos como predictores de la mortalidad en pacientes sépticos. Materiales y métodos: Estudio retrospectivo de cohortes de adultos con sepsis (Criterio 3 de la SEPSIS) hospitalizados en una Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos (Quito,Ecuador). Se excluyeron los pacientes con neoplasias o estados de inmunodeficiencia. Se evaluaron diferentes parámetros citométricos y se utilizaron modelos de regresión logística para establecer el rango predictivo de la mortalidad para cada parámetro y las áreas bajo la curva (AUC) para el análisis de sensibilidad. Resultados: En más de 159 pacientes, la mortalidad fue del 25%. En los no supervivientes, la mediana del APACHE II fue de 25,20 puntos, y la mediana del SOFA fue de 11,18, 10,44 y 10,15 puntos en el momento del ingreso, 48 y 72 horas respectivamente. En cuanto al análisis de sensibilidad para la mortalidad, el punto de corte del EDW fue 14,5% (AUC 0,708), y presentó un OR ajustado de 5,25 (IC 95%: 1,64-16,76, p: 0,005). El punto de corte de MPV fue de 8,45 fL (AUC 0,666), y presentó un OR ajustado de 5,28 (95%CI: 1,72-16,21, p 0,004). Conclusiones. EDW y MPV son predictores independientes de mortalidad, y deben ser utilizados con escalas o biomarcadores para optimizar el manejo y la terapia de los pacientes con sepsis. Serían una alternativa en los centros donde sólo se dispone de citometría de sangre como prueba analítica.

Abstract Introduction: A comprehensive cytometry assessment in the critical ill patient shows modifications in cell lines that estimate severity and mortality in sepsis. The objective of this study is to determine the utility of different cytometric parameters and indices as predictors of mortality in septic patients. Materials and Methods: Retrospective cohort study of adults with sepsis (SEPSIS Criteria 3) hospitalized in an Intensive Unit Care (Quito, Ecuador). Patients with neoplasms or immunodeficiency states were excluded. Different cytometric parameters have been assessed and logistic regression models were used to stablish the predictive range of mortality for each parameter and areas under the curve (AUC) for sensitivity analysis. Results: Over 159 patients, the mortality was 25%. In non-survivors, the median of the APACHE II was 25.20 points, and the median of the SOFA was 11.18, 10.44, 10.15 points at the time of admission, 48, and 72 hours respectively. About the sensitivity analysis for mortality, the cut-off point of EDW was 14.5% (AUC 0.708), and it presented an adjusted OR of 5.25 (95%CI: 1.64-16.76, p: 0.005). The cut-off point of MPV was 8.45 fL (AUC 0.666), and it had an adjusted OR of 5.28 (95%CI: 1.72-16.21, p 0.004). Conclusions: EDW and MPV are independent predictors of mortality, and they must be used with scales or biomarkers to optimize the management and therapy of patients with sepsis. They would be an alternative in centers where only blood cytometry is available as an analytical test.

ABSTRACT Objetive: Report the case of a girl who presented septic shock, hypercalcemia and hemophagocytic syndrome due to paracoccidioidomycosis. Case report: 3-year-old female patient with 2-month illness characterized by fever, lymphadenopathy, weight loss, abdominal distention, and severe anemia. She arrived in poor general condition, developed septic shock and a hemophagocytic syndrome. The hypercalcemia and dermal lesions were striking. A cervical ganglion biopsy and bone marrow aspirate were performed. In the latter, images compatible with Paracoccidioides were found, which were then confirmed with Grocott's stain. She was treated with amphotericin B and trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole. The evolution was favorable and serum calcium came back to normal ranges. Conclusion: Complications caused by paracoccidioidomycosis are rare; however, the epidemiological history and bone marrow aspirate should guide the diagnosis and allow prompt treatment.

RESUMEN Objetivo: Reportar el caso de una niña que presentó shock séptico, hipercalcemia y síndrome hemofagocítico por paracoccidioidomicosis. Reporte de caso: Paciente mujer de 3 años con 2 meses de enfermedad caracterizada por fiebre, adenopatías, pérdida de peso, distensión abdominal y anemia severa. Llegó en mal estado general, desarrolló shock séptico y un síndrome hemofagocítico. Llamaba la atención la hipercalcemia y lesiones dérmicas. Se le realizó una biopsia de ganglio cervical y aspirado de médula ósea. En esta última se evidenciaron imágenes compatibles con Paracoccidioides, que fueron confirmadas con la tinción de Grocott del ganglio. Se trató con anfotericina B y trimetoprim-sulfametoxazol. La evolución fue favorable y el calcio sérico se mantuvo en rangos normales. Conclusión: Las complicaciones presentadas por paracoccidioidomicosis son raras; sin embargo, el antecedente epidemiológico y el aspirado de médula ósea pueden orientar el diagnóstico y permitir un tratamiento oportuno.

ABSTRACT Aortopulmonary window is a rare congenital heart malformation that is found in between 0.2% and 0.6% of all congenital heart disease. It consists of a communication between the ascending aorta and the trunk of the pulmonary artery in the presence of two arteries with two semilunar valves. We present the case of a 6-month-old infant weighing 5,860 kg referred to the pediatric cardiology service due to respiratory distress and low weight gain. As part of the diagnostic workup, color Doppler echocardiography was performed, along with subsequent cardiac catheterization and surgical resolution.

RESUMEN La ventana aortopulmonar es una malformación cardiaca congénita poco frecuente que se encuentra entre el 0,2% y 0,6% de todas las cardiopatías congénitas. Consiste en una comunicación entre la aorta ascendente y el tronco de la arteria pulmonar en presencia de dos arterias con dos válvulas semilunares. Se presenta el caso de un lactante de 6 meses con 5,860 kg remitido al servicio de cardiología infantil por dificultad respiratoria y escasa ganancia ponderal. Entre los métodos diagnósticos se realiza la ecocardiografía doppler color requiriendo posteriormente complementar dicho método con cateterismo cardiaco y posterior resolución quirúrgica.

Abstract Pyroligneous acid (PA) was obtained by condensation of the vapors produced in the thermal decomposition of culms residues from Guadua angustifolia Kunth (G. angustifolia) cultivated in Colombia, with and without previous preservation treatment with borax salts. Chemical characterization by GC-MS showed that PA extracts has high content of phenolic compounds. Mequinol, isocreosol, 4-ethylphenol, 4-ethyl-2-methoxyphenol, 3,5-dimethoxy-4-hydroxytoluene and 2,6-dimethoxyphenol were the most abundant substances, identified. The total phenolic content (TPC) and DPPH free radical scavenging activity, were investigated. TPC showed a concentration of 1.959 mg GA g-1±0.010 and 3.844 mg GA g-1±0.027 to PAC and PAS samples. These samples also exhibited high DPPH activity of 70.975%±0.921 and, 16.667%±0.298, respectively. The chemical composition, TPC and DPPH results indicate that the PA extracts obtained from G. angustifolia may be used as a raw material in the food industry as natural preservative, in medicine as alternative to antibiotics and in agriculture as insect repellent and foliar fertilizer.

Resumen Se formulan recomendaciones de un grupo de consenso de expertos sobre los criterios para evaluar el desempeño diagnóstico (tamaño y selección de muestras para sensibilidad y especificidad analíticas, criterios para establecer límites de detección, criterios para establecer el estándar de oro para las serologías) que deberían ser tenidos en cuenta al evaluar y validar las pruebas diagnósticas para SARS CoV-2. Con el propósito de asegurar la calidad de las pruebas serológicas a utilizar en el país, se recomienda la participación en un programa de control de calidad externo, que garantice la idoneidad y desempeño en la realización de las pruebas diagnósticas serológicas y moleculares durante esta pandemia, ya que su uso tiene profundas implicaciones para las medidas de intervención clínicas individuales y de seguimiento y control en salud pública.

Abstract We formulate recommendations from a consensus working group on the criteria to evaluate the diagnostic performance (size and criteria of selection of samples to determine sensitivity, analytical specificity, criteria for limit of detection, criteria for gold standard to evaluate serological assays) that should be taken into account during the evaluation and validation/verification of diagnostic tests for SARS CoV-2 infection. A national external quality control program should be established to guarantee the suitability and performance of these diagnostic serological and molecular tests during this pandemic, that will have deep implications for decisions on clinical and public health.
