RESUMEN La disponibilidad hídrica es uno de las principales limitantes del rendimiento en papa debido a la alta sensibilidad de este cultivo al déficit hídrico. El objetivo de este estudio fue determinar el efecto del déficit hídrico sobre algunas respuestas fisiológicas y bioquímicas en plantas de papa amarilla diploide (Solanum tuberosum L. Group Phureja) de los cultivares Criolla Colombia, Criolla Dorada y Criolla Ocarina. Las plantas al inicio de la tuberización fueron sometidas a dos tratamientos: riego continuo y déficit hídrico por suspensión de riego al inicio de la tuberización durante 17 días. Los resultados mostraron que las plantas con déficit hídrico aumentaron la concentración de clorofila y el contenido de malondialdehído y prolina. Sin embargo, estas plantas también mostraron una disminución en la conductancia estomática, el área foliar y la masa seca total, y presentaron una mayor relación raíz/parte aérea en todos los cultivares. Además, todos los cultivares mostraron una disminución en el rendimiento, que se asoció con su sensibilidad al déficit hídrico. Aunque el alto contenido de prolina y la alta relación raíz/parte aérea pueden estar asociados con la tolerancia al déficit hídrico, esta asociación no se observó en estos cultivares, probablemente debido a la alta reducción de la conductancia estomática, que limitó la producción de fotoasimilados, el crecimiento de la planta y por tanto el rendimiento.

ABSTRACT Water availability is one of the main limitations of potato yields due to the high sensitivity of this crop to water deficit. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of water deficit on some physiological and biochemical responses in yellow diploid potato plants (Solanum tuberosum L. Group Phureja) of the cultivars Criolla Colombia, Criolla Dorada and Criolla Ocarina. Plants at tuber initiation were subjected to two treatments: continuous irrigation and water deficit imposed by withholding water at tuber initiation for 17 d. The results showed that plants under water deficit increased chlorophyll concentration, malondialdehyde and proline content. However, these plants showed a decrease in stomatal conductance, leaf area, total dry mass and exhibited a higher root/shoot ratio in all potato cultivars. In addition, all the cultivars also showed a decrease in yield, which was associated with sensitivity to water stress. Although the high content of proline and high root/ shoot ratio may be associated with tolerance to water deficit, this association was not observed in these cultivars, probably due to the high reduction of stomatal conductance, which limited the production of photoassimilates, plant growth, and, therefore, the yield.

Resumen La firma del Acuerdo Multipartes entre Ecuador y la Unión Europea es el resultado de una historia de relaciones culturales, económicas y políticas que con el paso de los años se han ido fortaleciendo hasta convertir a Europa en el primer destino de las exportaciones no petroleras del Ecuador. Esta investigación tuvo por objetivo analizar el intercambio de mercancías no petroleras entre Ecuador y la Unión Europea en el período comprendido entre enero del año 2015 y junio del año 2018. Para ello se realizó un análisis comparativo de las estadísticas de organismos públicos y privados, obtenidas de sus bases de datos, de reportes y de boletines, lo que se complementó con una revisión bibliográfica que da soporte teórico a esta investigación. Los resultados permiten afirmar que la aplicación del Acuerdo Multipartes incide directamente en la cantidad de mercancías no petroleras comercializadas entre los actores.

Abstract The signing of the multiparty agreement between Ecuador and the European Union is the result of a cultural, economic and political relationships history that has been strengthened over the years to the point where Europe has become the top destination for Ecuador’s non-oil exports. The objective of this research was to analyze the exchange of non-oil goods between Ecuador and the European Union in the period between January 2015 and June 2018. For this purpose, a comparative analysis of the statistics of public and private organizations was made of their databases, reports and newsletters, which was complemented by a bibliographical review that gives theoretical support to this research. The results allow to affirm that the application of the Multiparty Agreement affects directly the amount of non-oil merchandise marketed among the actors.

Actualmente en Colombia, los accidentes de tránsito constituyen la segunda causa de muerte después de los homicidios; por esta razón, las instituciones gubernamentales necesitan herramientas de decisión con las cuales sea posible conocer y atacar las causas que provocan este tipo de accidentes. La presente investigación desea determinar la influencia de los factores asociados a la geometría y entorno vial, a los volúmenes vehiculares y a las velocidades en la frecuencia de accidentes en la red vial urbana de la ciudad de Ocaña (Colombia), partiendo de un enfoque metodológico de modelación que incluye medición de variables en campo, conformación de una base de datos de accidentes y su posterior evaluación, que calibra un modelo basado en regresiones tipo Poisson y Binomial Negativa. El análisis de los resultados arrojó que variables como el ancho de calzada, número de intersecciones, tipo de pavimento, volúmenes vehiculares (desagregado en motocicletas, vehículos livianos y pesados) y la velocidad media de circulación (Percentil 50) se relacionan con las tasas de accidentes.

Currently traffic accidents are the second cause of death, after homicides, in Colombia. Hence, government institutions require decision-making tools to identify and tackle the causes of traffic accidents. This research aims to determine the influence of factors related to roadway geometry and conditions, and traffic volumes and speeds on the frequency of accidents on the urban road network in the city of Ocaña (Colombia) This study took a methodological modeling approach, which included measuring variables in the field, creating an accidents database, and conducting a subsequent analysis of the data by calibrating a model based on Poisson and Negative Binomial regressions. The results showed that variables such as road width, number of intersections, pavement type, traffic volumes (broken down into motorcycles, light, and heavy vehicles), and average driving speed (50th percentile) relate to accident rates.

Chagas disease is caused by Trypanosoma cruzi, which is mainly transmitted by the faeces of triatomine insects that find favourable environments in poorly constructed houses. Previous studies have documented persistent triatomine infestation in houses in the province of Loja in southern Ecuador despite repeated insecticide and educational interventions. We aim to develop a sustainable strategy for the interruption of Chagas disease transmission by promoting living environments that are designed to prevent colonisation of rural houses by triatomines. This study used positive deviance to inform the design of an anti-triatomine prototype house by identifying knowledge, attitudes and practices used by families that have remained triatomine-free (2010-2012). Positive deviants reported practices that included maintenance of structural elements of the house, fumigation of dwellings and animal shelters, sweeping with "insect repellent" plants and relocation of domestic animals away from the house, among others. Participants favoured construction materials that do not drastically differ from those currently used (adobe walls and tile roofs). They also expressed their belief in a clear connection between a clean house and health. The family's economic dynamics affect space use and must be considered in the prototype's design. Overall, the results indicate a positive climate for the introduction of housing improvements as a protective measure against Chagas disease in this region.
