O objetivo deste estudo é analisar o impacto das diferentes formas de ingresso sobre a evasão ou desligamento de curso dos alunos da Universidade de Brasília (UnB), ou seja, uma comparação da evasão entre ingressantes pelo SISU, Programa de Avaliação Seriada (PAS) e Vestibular, entre 2014 e 2018. Como metodologia, utilizou-se a taxa de desistência anual e a taxa de desistência acumulada propostas pelo INEP (2017) e concluiu-se que o PAS e o Vestibular têm um padrão semelhante de evasão, com picos no segundo e terceiro ano de trajetória universitária, enquanto o SISU tem uma taxa de desistência consideravelmente superior, e que ocorre mais cedo, com picos nos primeiros anos de curso.

The goal of this study is to analyze the impact of different entry methods on dropout and stop out rates for Universidade de Brasília (UnB)’s students, that is a comparison between dropout rates between those who entered university through SISU, through Programa de Avaliação Seriada (PAS) or through Vestibular, between 2014 and 2018. We used the annual dropout rate and the accumulated dropout rate as proposed by INEP (2017) and we concluded that PAS and Vestibular have similar dropout patterns with peaks in the second and third years of university trajectory, while SISU has a much higher dropout rate, that happens sooner, with peaks in the first year of trajectory.

Este artigo analisa a classificação de instituições brasileiras de ensino superior em dois dos principais rankings internacionais de universidades: o QS World University Ranking e o The Times Higher Education (THE). Para isso, foram avaliadas as restrições metodológicas e como essas restrições afetaram a classificação das universidades do país nesses rankings. Entre 2016 e 2019, 38 brasileiras foram classificadas no QS e no THE, em sua versão global. Devido a restrições metodológicas, a classificação das instituições brasileiras assumiu a característica de patamares, variando de 3 a 5 patamares. Denota-se que a classificação de uma instituição em um patamar mais alto depende de sua proximidade com um mercado de trabalho dinâmico e um orçamento maior, indicando a dificuldade dos rankings de diferenciar de fato qualidade além dessas duas dimensões.

This paper analyzes the classification of Brazilian Universities and Higher Education Institutions in two of the main International University rankings: QS World University Ranking and Times Higher Education (THE). We analyzed the methodological restrictions and how they affected the ranking of Brazilian Higher Education Institutions. Between 2016 and 2019, 38 Brazilian institutions were classified on QS and THE rankings in their global versions. Due to their methodological restrictions, this classification assumed a plateau patter, varying between 3 and 5 levels. The classification of an institution in a higher position seemed to depend to its proximity to a dynamic job market and larger budget, suggesting a bias towards these variables.

Resumo Este trabalho avalia o conceito de equidade intergeracional na avaliação ambiental de projetos com impactos no longo prazo no que tange à determinação da taxa de desconto. São analisados os conceitos de equidade intergeracional na Economia e as formas encontradas para incluir esse aspecto na definição da taxa de desconto utilizada na mensuração econômica dos custos ambientais com impactos no longo prazo. As propostas apresentadas por Padilla (2002) e a aplicação da Fórmula de Ramsey com segurança equivalente são adotadas na análise. As análises conduzidas apontaram que há uma diferença significativa na adoção da taxa de desconto dita sustentável em comparação com a de mercado no caso brasileiro. Algumas sugestões em termos de tomada de decisão são apresentadas no final.

Abstract This paper evaluates the concept of intergenerational equity in the environmental evaluation of projects with long term impacts in relation to the determination of the discount rate. The concepts of intergenerational equity in the Economy and the ways found to include this aspect in the definition of the discount rate used in the economic measurement of the environmental costs with long term impacts are analyzed. The proposals presented by Padilla (2002) and the application of the Ramsey Formula with equivalent safety are adopted in the analysis. The analyzes conducted showed that there is a significant difference in the adoption of the discount rate, which is said to be sustainable compared to the market rate in the Brazilian case. Some suggestions in terms of decision making are presented at the end.

The University of Brasília (UnB) uses a diversity of chemical products, generating residues in a significant way in its multiple activities - teaching, research and community services. The UnB Comission on Chemical Residues Management was established in November 2002, aiming at three main objectives: 1) correct destination for the accumulated residues; 2) implantation of a chemical residues management system and 3) implantation of a UnB Unit for Treatment of Chemical Residues. To fulfil these commitments, a diagnosis of chemical residues produced by the University was performed, which is here presented with an evaluation of their future use, limitations and possibilities.
