RESUMO Objetivo: O objetivo deste artigo é apresentar uma discussão sobre como as cadeias de suprimentos têm evoluído através da introdução de questões ambientais no campo gerencial. Design / metodologia / abordagem: Os autores revisaram vários dos resultados de pesquisas mais relevantes sobre Cadeias de Suprimento Verde (Green Supply Chains) e analisaram o status da cooperação entre autores e países. Resultados: Os autores discutem o conceito de Green Supply Chain, suas práticas, motivações, motivações e barreiras, apresentando uma revisão moderna sobre a rede de cooperação entre os principais autores e países. Originalidade / valor: Embora a pesquisa sobre Cadeias de Suprimento Verde tenha sido intensamente desenvolvida recentemente, existem vários caminhos de pesquisa inexplorados nos quais os profissionais e acadêmicos podem avançar. Para subsidiar estudos futuros sobre Green Supply Chain, foram elaboradas dez questões de pesquisa.

ABSTRACT Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to present a discussion concerning how supply chains have evolved through the introduction of environmental concerns into the managerial field. Design/methodology/approach: The authors have reviewed several of the most relevant research results regarding Green Supply Chains and analyzed the status of cooperation among authors and countries. Findings: The authors set a discussion on the concept of the Green Supply Chain, along with its practices, drivers, motivations and barriers, presenting a modern review regarding the cooperation network among the mains authors and countries. Originality/value: Although research regarding Green Supply Chains has been intensively developed recently, there are several unexplored research avenues in which practitioners and scholars could advance. In order to support future studies concerning Green Supply Chains, ten research questions were elaborated.

Resumo Com base na teoria das tensões da gestão da sustentabilidade, este trabalho original tem como objetivo analisar as tensões que emergiram durante o processo de inserção da sustentabilidade nos principais processos de uma importante universidade brasileira. Onze entrevistas foram realizadas e analisadas através da categorização temática e uso do software Atlas-ti. Uma análise documental também foi realizada. Os resultados sugerem que: (a) houve predominância de tensões provenientes da dimensão organizacional; (b) a dimensão do desempenho está associada à pluralidade de resultados esperados pelas partes interessadas; (c) a assimetria existente entre a expectativa dos sujeitos e os resultados concretos visualizados na universidade Unisul contribuíram para o fato de que os pontos de tensão convergiram para a dimensão de desempenho; e desafiam os gerentes a encontrarem mecanismos para minimizar os dilemas e conflitos que emergem e alinharem as expectativas dos diferentes stakeholders da Unisul Sustentável.

Abstract Drawing on the theory of tensions of sustainability management, this original work aims at analysing tensions that emerged during the process of inserting sustainability at core processes of an important Brazilian university. Eleven interviews were conducted and analysed through the thematic categorisation and the Atlas ti software was used. A documental analysis was also carried out. The results suggested that: (a) there was a predominance of tensions originating from the organizational dimension; (b) the performance dimension was associated with the plurality of outcomes expected by stakeholders; (c) the existing asymmetry between the expectation of the subjects and the concrete results visualized in the Unisul University as contributed to the fact that the points of tension converged towards the performance dimension. And it challenged managers to find mechanisms to minimize the dilemmas and conflicts that emerged and to align the expectations of the different stakeholders of the Unisul Sustainable enterprise.

Abstract Paper aims The main objective of this work is to integrate a typology of green supply chain management practices with organizational theories. Originality We provide a comprehensive typology of GSCM practices based on empirical evidence and conceptual arguments. Research method Through a systematic review we identified 435 GSCM’s practices that were organized into categories according to their theoretical conception, organizational context and characteristics. Main findings We identified three organizational context dimensions (innovation, performance and management) and proposed a conceptual model of theory-practice-context congruence, to guide the selection of theories for the design of research and analyses of GSCM practices. Implications for theory and practice Our main contribution is the alignment of each category of practices and organizational dimension with the selected theoretical lenses that can help future investigations to deepen the analysis of GSCM practices. Besides the theoretical contributions, we believe this contribution can also achieve practitioners.

Resumo Embora as temáticas de níveis de maturidade da gestão ambiental empresarial e a adoção de práticas de GSCM estejam se consolidando, elas percorreram, até o momento, um longo caminho desconectadas, embora ambas tenham sua gênese circunscrita à sustentabilidade empresarial. Buscou-se, por meio de múltiplos casos, a caracterização de um padrão lógico de adoção de práticas de GSCM inerentes a cada nível de maturidade em gestão ambiental. Com base no estudo de cinco casos de empresas inseridas em cadeias produtivas de alto impacto ambiental (setor de suprimentos de defensivos agrícolas, setor de pilhas e baterias e setor de reciclagem de chumbo, buscou-se identificar o relacionamento entre práticas de Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM) e níveis de maturidade em gestão ambiental. Para o alcance do objetivo, foi realizada uma sistematização junto à literatura que versa sobre maturidade de gestão ambiental e tipologia das práticas de GSCM. Os principais resultados apontam que: no primeiro nível de maturidade em gestão ambiental, o reativo, as organizações adotam práticas de GSCM específicas relacionadas à imposição da legislação; no nível preventivo de maturidade em gestão ambiental, as organizações adotam práticas de GSCM relacionadas ao retorno de investimentos e à redução de custos operacionais; e no nível proativo de maturidade em gestão ambiental, as organizações tendem a adotar práticas relacionadas à inovação de produtos e processos e práticas comunicacionais ambientais, visando obter vantagens competitivas baseadas em gestão ambiental. Até o momento, este artigo trata da primeira pesquisa a relacionar níveis de maturidade de gestão ambiental a práticas de GSCM, aplicada a cinco casos com alto impacto ambiental do Brasil.

Abstract Although the thematic maturity levels of corporate environmental management and the adoption of Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM) practices are consolidating, they have passed through long ways disconnected, given that both have their genesis circumscribed to corporate sustainability. The aim of this qualitative study was to identify the relationship between GSCM practices and maturity levels of environmental management. Literature systematization was carried out dealing with the maturity levels of environmental management and the typology of GSCM practices to reach the study objective. The study was based on multiple cases studies from five different companies inserted in the production chains with high environmental impact: the sector of pesticides, the sector of batteries, and the sector of lead recycling. It was sought the characterization of a logical standard for the adoption of GSCM practices inherent to each maturity level in environmental management. The main results indicate that: at the reactive maturity level in environmental management, organizations adopt specific GSCM practices related to the imposition of legislation; at the preventive level of maturity, organizations adopt GSCM practices related to the return of investments and the reduction of operational costs; and at the proactive level of maturity, organizations tend to adopt practices related to product innovation and environmental communicational processes and practices, aiming to obtain competitive advantages always based on environmental management.

Abstract This paper identifies and characterizes the environmental maturity level of local and multinational high-technology corporations located in Brazil. This characterization is achieved by discussing the adoption of environmental management practices and considering aspects of the productive process stage. An eight-case study was conducted through data triangulation using interviews with employees in diverse organizational areas, direct observations and secondary data. The results indicate the differences in environmental positioning among the studied corporations with a predominance of preventive practices, i.e., an emphasis on eco-efficiency and compliance with legislation. It was also noted that environmental concerns in the corporations are related to internationalization and, in some cases, to the pressure exerted by corporations that represent the brand of the products produced in Brazil. Moreover, the adoption of environmental practices based on the productive process stage supported the environmental maturity classifications of the studied companies.

RESUMO A metodologia Seis Sigma é uma estratégia de negócio baseada na tomada de decisão objetiva, considerando dados significativos e reais para a criação de metas viáveis, analisando a causa dos defeitos e sugerindo formas de eliminar a lacuna existente entre o desempenho de um processo e o desejado. Pela verificação da importância da integração entre o saneamento ambiental e a gestão de operações, buscou-se, por meio de uma simulação, realizar uma análise dos processos envolvidos no tratamento convencional de água sob a óptica da metodologia Seis Sigma. Considerando uma produção de 2,58 milhões de m3.mês-1 e um Nível Sigma 3,0, o volume não conforme seria de 173,1 mil de m3.mês-1. Se o Nível Seis Sigma de excelência fosse atingido, o volume não conforme seria de apenas 7,75 m3.mês-1.

ABSTRACT The Six Sigma methodology is a business strategy based on making an objective decision, considering real and meaningful data for the creation of viable targets, analyzing the defects' cause and suggesting ways to eliminate the gap between the performance process and the desired goal. Through the verification of the importance of integration between the environmental sanitation and the management operations, it was attempted to, through a simulation, perform an analysis of the processes involved in conventional water treatment from the perspective of Six Sigma methodology. Considering a production of 2.58 million m³.month-1 and a 3.0 Sigma level, the nonconforming volume would be 173.1 m³.month-1. If the Six Sigma excellence level could be reached, the nonconforming volume would be 7.75 m³.month-1.

O objetivo deste estudo foi analisar a produção científica internacional na área de Green Supply Chain Management constante de produções da base de dados Business Source Complete (EBSCO Host) no período de 2001 a 2012. Pôde-se verificar a estrutura de cooperação entre autores e instituições, os autores entrantes, as categorias de produção e continuidade, a regularidade de publicação e a distribuição das publicações ao longo do tempo. Noventa artigos compuseram a amostra e os resultados evidenciaram que o número de autores que publicam é reduzido, concentrados na categoria one-timers, com 68,90%. A maior produção foi 10 artigos por autor e o periódico mais prolífico foi o Journal of Cleaner Production, com 12 artigos publicados sobre o assunto. A Clark University (USA) destaca-se com 12 autores filiados. Conclui-se que a temática teve uma ascensão expressiva nos últimos anos.

The goal of this study was to analyze international scientific production in the area of constant-production green supply chain management from 2001 to 2012 using the Business Source Complete database (EBSC0 Host). The database was checked for cooperation between authors and institutions, author entrants, production and continuity categories, regularity of publication and distribution of publications over time. Ninety articles were included in the sample, and the results showed a reduction in the number of publishing authors, concentrated in one-timers category with 68.90%. The highest yield for a single author was 10 articles, and the most prolific periodical was the Journal of Cleaner Production, with 12 articles published on the subject. Clark University (USA) stood out in terms of output, with 12 affiliated authors. It was concluded that the subject had experienced a significant rise in published literature over that time period.

RESUMO Objetivo: Identificar e avaliar informações contidas nos relatórios de sustentabilidade pertinentes à potencialidade de realização de benefícios a partir dos projetos desenvolvidos sob as premissas dos Mecanismos de Desenvolvimento Limpo (MDL) e, captar a percepção de especialistas em elaboração de projetos MDLs sobre as resistências ao mercado de créditos de carbono. Método: Pesquisa exploratória, descritiva, bibliográfica e documental e entrevistas. Fundamentação teórica: A pesquisa esteve fundamentada nos conceitos de sustentabilidade, notadamente nos aspectos responsabilidade socioambiental (RSC), aos quais se associou a análise de custo-benefício, visto que a venda de créditos de carbono pode ser uma forma de mitigar o trade off entre a satisfação imediata dos acionistas e investimentos em RSC. Resultados: A apuração da percepção dos representantes das empresas certificadoras de projetos de crédito de carbono levou à conclusão de que economias de custos, marketing empresarial e certificações são motivadores maiores do que a obtenção de créditos de carbono. Os projetos comentados nos relatórios de sustentabilidade de 2011 teriam capacidade de gerar uma economia de custos com eficiência energética de, aproximadamente, R$ 538 milhões. Adicionalmente, R$ 40 milhões seriam ganhos com a comercialização de créditos de carbono, considerando a cotação do euro e dos referidos títulos em 31 de dezembro de 2014. Contribuições: Demonstração do potencial expressivo de ganhos financeiros adicionais que as empresas podem obter com a eficiência energética e reestruturação de habitats, seja aproveitando a redução de CO2 gerada por projetos desse tipo, seja desenvolvendo novos projetos que continuem beneficiando o meio socioambiental como o econômico.

ABSTRACT Objective: The main goal of this study is to identify and assess, within sustainability reports, information concerning potential carbon credits obtained through projects carried out under Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) assumptions, as well as to assess CDM project experts’ perceptions of obstacles to entering carbon credit markets. Design/methodology/approach: exploratory, descriptive, bibliographical and documental research, and interviews. Theoretical basis: Research was based on the concepts of sustainability, especially as to environmental responsibility (CSR); cost-benefit analysis was also considered, since selling carbon credits can be a way of mitigating the trade off between immediate shareholder satisfaction and investment in CSR. Findings: The perceptions of representatives from carbon credit projects’ certifying companies was examined by means of a series of interviews - concluding that savings in costs, business marketing and certifications are even greater motivators than carbon credits themselves. We estimated that, through energy efficiency, the projects discussed in 2011 sustainability reports would be capable of saving approximately 538 million reais in costs. In addition, 40 million reais, considering the rate of the euro and of securities on December 31, 2014, would be gained through the sale of carbon credits. Practical implications: Thus, this research helps to demonstrate the significant potential for further financial gains that companies may obtain through energy efficiency and habitat restructuring, whether by taking advantage of CO2 reduction brought about by such projects, or by developing new projects that continue to benefit economy, society and the environment.

O propósito deste artigo é analisar a inserção das questões ambientais no contexto da função produção/manufatura (ou operações), a qual é referenciada como a área organizacional que deve liderar a gestão ambiental empresarial. Para tanto, sistematizou-se o referencial teórico sobre o esverdeamento da área de produção, com implicações para o desenvolvimento de produto, processo, gestão da qualidade e logística. Tendo em vista que esse campo de pesquisa carece, ainda, de evidências empíricas, optou-se pela realização de quatro estudos de caso em empresas localizadas no Brasil. Constatou-se que o nível de maturidade da gestão ambiental dessas empresas tende a acompanhar o grau com que a questão ambiental é inserida nas subáreas de produção, principalmente no processo de desenvolvimento de produto. Não obstante, verificou-se, na maior parte dos casos, dificuldade dessas organizações em estruturar a inserção da dimensão ambiental nas atividades logísticas, desafio que pode ser superado com a adoção, por parte das empresas, dos modernos conceitos de green supply chain management. Os apontamentos finais ressaltam o distanciamento observado entre o que a literatura internacional apregoa e a realidade de empresas localizadas no Brasil no desafio de esverdear definitivamente as empresas manufatureiras.

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the integration of environmental issues in the context of manufacturing function/production (or operations), which is considered the organizational area that should lead corporate environmental management. We present a background on the greening of the manufacturing area, especially in terms of product development, process, quality management and logistics. Four case studies of Brazilian companies are presented as part of the study, and it is found that the maturity level of these companies' environmental management tends to follow the degree to which the environment has been inserted into subareas of production, especially in the process of product development. However, difficulties encountered in greening a company's logistics activities are also recognized in most cases. It is concluded that companies can overcome this challenge by adopting new concepts of green supply chain management. The notes highlight the observed distance between arguments in the international literature and the reality of Brazilian companies on the greening of manufacturing aspects.

Este artigo tem como objetivo analisar como práticas de Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM) estão sendo induzidas, tanto interna quanto externamente, por empresas consideradas focais em suas cadeias de suprimentos localizadas no Brasil e atuantes no segmento de alta tecnologia. Foram realizados oito estudos de casos por meio da triangulação de fontes de dados: entrevistas, observações diretas e obtenção de dados secundários. Há mecanismos específicos para induzir práticas de GSCM internamente e externamente e destacam-se os mecanismos: treinamento ambiental, atividades logísticas, seleção e avaliação de fornecedores e marketing verde. Constatou-se também que a empresa focal é o vetor nesse processo.

The goal of this study is to analyze how green supply chain management (GSCM) practices are induced, both internally and externally, by focal companies on their supply chains located in the Brazilian high-tech segment. Eight case studies are conducted through the triangulation of data sources: interviews, observations and secondary data collection. The findings reveal specific mechanisms for inducing GSCM practices internally and externally, the principal of which are environmental training, logistics activities, the selection and evaluation of suppliers and green marketing. The focal firm is also identified as the vector in this process, inducing the adoption of green supply chain practices in the chain as a whole.

O objetivo deste artigo é verificar se as práticas de gestão de recursos humanos estão relacionadas positivamente com a adoção de práticas de manufatura enxuta em empresas brasileiras do setor automotivo. Para tanto, foi proposto um framework relacionando esses conceitos com a proposição de uma hipótese de pesquisa. Os dados coletados de 75 empresas foram analisados por meio de modelagem de equações estruturais. O principal resultado desta pesquisa é que, de fato, a gestão de recursos humanos vem se relacionando de forma positiva com a manufatura enxuta nas empresas analisadas, mas tal relação tende a ocorrer de maneira fraca-moderada.

The aim of this paper is to verify whether the practices of human resource management have a positive influence on the adoption of lean manufacturing practices in Brazilian companies in the automotive sector. To this aim, we proposed a framework linking these concepts to the proposed research hypothesis. Data collected from 75 companies were analyzed using structural equation modeling. The research demonstrates that human resource management indeed tends to influence the adoption of lean manufacturing practices in a weak-moderate manner.

O objetivo deste artigo é identificar as contribuições dos Sistemas de Informação (SI) para as práticas de gestão ambiental, bem como as oportunidades e desafios na relação entre ambos. Para tanto, foram realizados dois estudos de caso com empresas brasileiras certificadas ISO 14001, através da condução de entrevistas, análise documental e observação direta. Como resultados, apresentam-se a identificação das principais contribuições dos sistemas de informação para as práticas de gestão ambiental nos casos estudados, a verificação de que um estágio mais avançado em relação aos SI é um fator que implica em uma contribuição mais efetiva, além da constatação de desafios e oportunidades nessa relação. A principal contribuição desta pesquisa consiste na apresentação de um framework, que identifica o apoio dos sistemas de informação às práticas ambientais.

The purpose of this article is to identify the contributions of Information Systems (IS) for environmental management practices, as well as the opportunities and challenges in this relation. Thus, we performed two case studies with Brazilian enterprises certified ISO 14001, by conducting interviews, document analysis and direct observation. As results, we present the identification of the main contributions of information systems for environmental management practices in the studied cases, the verification that a more advanced stage regarding IS is a factor that implies a more effective contribution, besides finding challenges and opportunities in this relation. The main contribution of this research consists of the presentation of a framework that identifies the support of information systems for environmental practices.

Argumentos de que a manufatura enxuta pode se relacionar positivamente com o desempenho operacional das empresas vêm se propagando pela literatura especializada desde a década de 1990. Entretanto, há uma lacuna teórico-empírica sobre tal temática, a qual carece de mais evidências que validem ou refutem tais argumentos para a realidade brasileira. Por isso, na pesquisa aqui relatada tem-se o objetivo de verificar, empiricamente, se a manufatura enxuta relaciona-se com o desempenho das operações de empresas do setor automotivo brasileiro, com foco no segmento de autopeças e componentes automotivos. Metodologicamente, realizou-se um survey com 75 empresas do setor mencionado, cujos dados foram analisados por meio de Modelagem de Equações Estruturais, uma análise multivariada de segunda geração. Os principais resultados da pesquisa são: de fato, a manufatura enxuta relaciona-se positivamente ao desempenho operacional do setor, validando a hipótese declarada neste artigo, mas essa relação é considerada apenas fraca, embora positiva e estatisticamente válida; todas as práticas de manufatura enxuta analisadas foram verificadas na prática, com destaque para a variável "melhoria contínua", que apresentou maior média, e para a correlação entre a adoção de Kanban e Just in Time; o construto sobre desempenho operacional apresenta algumas práticas/medidas indicadas pela literatura especializada que não foram estatisticamente consideradas válidas, como inovação (novos produtos) e qualidade.

Arguments that lean manufacturing can positively relate with the operational performance of companies have been spreading the literature since the 1990s. However, there is a theoretical and empirical gap on this issue that needs further empirical evidence to validate or refute these arguments to the Brazilian reality. Hence, this research aims to, empirically, verify if the lean manufacturing positively influences the performance of the operations of companies in the Brazilian automotive industry, focusing on the segment of automotive parts and components. Methodologically, we carried out a survey of 75 companies in the mentioned sector. The data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling, a second-generation multivariate analysis. The main results of this research are: in fact, lean manufacturing positively affects the operational performance of the studied companies, validating the main hypothesis stated in this article, but this relation is just considered weak, although positive; all lean manufacturing practices analyzed were encountered in the reality, especially for the variable "continuous improvement", with the highest average and the correlation between the adoption of Kanban and Just in Time; the operational performance construct has some practices/measures identified by the literature, which have not been validated by the studied sector, as innovation (new products) and quality.

Argumentos de que la manufactura esbelta se puede relacionar positivamente con el desempeño operacional de las empresas se vienen propagando por la literatura especializada desde la década de 1990. Entre tanto, hay una laguna teórico-empírica sobre tal temática, que carece de más evidencias que validen o refuten tales argumentos para la realidad brasileña. Por eso, esta investigación tiene el objetivo de verificar, empíricamente, si la manufactura esbelta se relaciona con el desempeño de las operaciones de empresas del sector automotor brasileño, con foco en el segmento de piezas y componentes automotores. Metodológicamente, se realizó un survey con 75 empresas del sector mencionado, cuyos datos fueron analizados por medio de Modelado de Ecuaciones Estructurales, un análisis multivariado de segunda generación. Los principales resultados de esta investigación son: de hecho, la manufactura esbelta se relaciona positivamente con el desempeño operacional del sector, validando la principal hipótesis declarada en este artículo, pero esa relación es considerada apenas débil, aunque positiva y estadísticamente válida; todas las prácticas de manufactura esbelta analizadas fueron verificadas en la práctica, destacándose la variable "mejora continua", que presentó mayor media, y la correlación entre la adopción de Kanban y Just in Time; el constructo sobre desempeño operacional presenta algunas prácticas/medidas indicadas por la literatura especializada que no fueron estadísticamente consideradas válidas, como innovación (nuevos productos) y calidad.

O Sol possui um papel de extrema importância para a existência dos seres humanos e o Brasil possui uma posição geográfica privilegiada para explorar a luz solar. A união desses dois fatores favorece o uso de células solares para conversão de energia solar em energia elétrica por meio da tecnologia fotovoltaica, tornando-se ótima alternativa de energia, principalmente por ser uma fonte limpa, gerando menores danos ao meio ambiente. Este trabalho tem por objetivo abordar a tecnologia fotovoltaica tendo como foco analítico os hospitais, por meio de casos de sucesso encontrados na literatura internacional. Os hospitais, mesmo executando serviços de total importância à sociedade, apresentam potencial poluidor capaz de causar danos à saúde das pessoas e ao meio ambiente que se localiza ao seu redor. Há estimativas de que as reservas brasileiras de petróleo sejam suficientes para 22 anos, tornando-se necessária a busca por novas fontes alternativas para a geração de energia.

The sun has an extremely important role in the existence of human beings, and Brazil has a privileged geographical position to explore sunlight. The union of these two factors favors the use of solar cells for converting solar energy into electricity by photovoltaic technology: it is a great alternative energy source, especially for being a clean one, causing less damage to the environment. This paper addresses the photovoltaic technology with a focus on hospitals, through case studies found in international literature, because hospitals, even running all important services to society, have a potential for pollution capable of causing damage to human health and the environment that is around them. It is estimated that the Brazilian oil reserves are sufficient for twenty-two years. This makes the search for alternative sources for power generation a necessity.
