RESUMO O ferro, embora micronutriente essencial, quando em excesso pode causar redução no crescimento e, consequentemente, na produtividade das plantas. O objetivo do presente trabalho foi avaliar a absorção, o acúmulo, a distribuição do Fe e suas consequências sobre o crescimento e composição mineral de plantas jovens de Eugenia uniflora L.. As plantas foram expostas às concentrações de Fe 0,045 (controle), 1,0 e 2,0 mM, aplicado na forma de FeEDTA, em solução nutritiva de Hoagland, pH 5,0, durante 15; 30 e 45 dias e, então, foram avaliados o número de folhas, a altura da parte aérea, o comprimento da raiz primária, a massa seca de raízes, caule e folhas e os teores de clorofila, carotenóides totais e minerais. Plantas expostas aos tratamentos com Fe 1,0 e 2,0 mM apresentaram aumento nos teores deste elemento em folhas, caule e raízes em relação às plantas-controle, especialmente aos 45 dias de exposição. Sob esta condição, as plantas exibiram sintomatologia típica de toxidez de Fe, caracterizada por bronzeamento foliar, escurecimento das raízes, redução no número de folhas, na altura da parte aérea, no comprimento da raiz principal, na produção de massa seca e nos teores de pigmentos cloroplastídicos. O excesso de Fe modificou a partição da biomassa e promoveu redução nos teores de P, Zn, Cu e Mn, especialmente nas raízes. Além de um efeito direto do Fe em excesso, a desordem nutricional resultante pode estar associada aos efeitos restritivos sobre o crescimento vegetativo inicial das plantas de Eugenia uniflora L..

ABSTRACT Iron, although an essential micronutrient, when present in excess can cause a reduction in the growth, and hence the productivity, of plants. The aim of this study was to evaluate the absorption, accumulation and distribution of Fe, and its consequences on growth and mineral composition in young plants of Eugenia uniflora L.. The plants were exposed to different concentrations of Fe, 0.045 (control), 1.0 and 2.0 mM, applied in the form of Fe-EDTA in Hoagland's pH 5.0 nutrient solution for 15, 30 and 45 days, when the number of leaves, shoot height, primary root length, dry mass of the roots, stems and leaves, and the levels of chlorophyll, total carotenoids and minerals were evaluated. Plants exposed to the treatments with 1.0 and 2.0 mM Fe showed an increase in levels of the element in the leaves, stem and roots, compared to the control plants, especially after 45 days of exposure. Under that condition, the plants exhibited typical symptoms of Fe toxicity, characterised by leaf bronzing, darkening of the roots, a reduction in the number of leaves, shoot height, length of the main root, dry matter production and the levels of chloroplast pigments. Excess Fe modified biomass partitioning and caused a reduction in the levels of P, Zn, Cu and Mn, especially in the roots. In addition to the direct effect of excess Fe, the resulting nutritional disorder may be associated with restrictive effects on initial vegetative growth in plants of Eugenia uniflora L..

Este trabalho teve por objetivo caracterizar as exigências nutricionais de mudas de ginseng brasileiro (Pfaffia glomerata (Spreng.) Pedersen) em Argissolo Vermelho distrófico arênico pela técnica do nutriente faltante. Plantas de P. glomerata produzidas in vitro e aclimatizadas ex vitro foram usadas como material inicial para o experimento em casa de vegetação. Aos 10 dias após o transplante para o solo, através de soluções nutritivas, foram realizadas as adubações correspondentes a nove tratamentos: controle (sem adubação), adubação completa (com macro e micronutrientes) e as omissões individuais de N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S e dos micronutrientes (Zn, B, Cu, Fe, Mn e Mo). Aos 60 dias de cultivo, avaliaram-se os parâmetros de crescimento das plantas. O número de folhas por planta foi o parâmetro de crescimento mais afetado pela ausência dos nutrientes N, K, S e P na adubação. O efeito da omissão dos nutrientes na adubação foi diferenciado quanto à partição de biomassa entre os órgãos da planta. A biomassa acumulada pela parte aérea obedeceu à seguinte ordem decrescente, em relação à omissão do nutriente: Mg <FONT FACE=Symbol>@</FONT> micronutrientes > Ca <FONT FACE=Symbol>@</FONT> adubação completa > P > S > K > N <FONT FACE=Symbol>@</FONT> controle. Já a biomassa radicular obedeceu à seguinte ordem decrescente: Mg <FONT FACE=Symbol>@</FONT> adubação completa <FONT FACE=Symbol>³</FONT> P <FONT FACE=Symbol>³</FONT> micronutrientes <FONT FACE=Symbol>³</FONT> S <FONT FACE=Symbol>³</FONT> Ca > N > K <FONT FACE=Symbol>@</FONT> controle. Plantas jovens de P. glomerata cultivadas em Argissolo Vermelho distrófico arênico apresentaram grande redução no crescimento pela ausência de N, K, S e P na adubação. As omissões de Mg e dos micronutrientes na adubação não foram limitantes para o crescimento das plantas jovens.

This study aimed to characterize the nutritional demands of the young plants of Brazilian ginseng (Pfaffia glomerata (Spreng.) Pedersen) in a Paleudalf soil by means of the missing nutrient technique. Plantlets of P. glomerata produced in vitro and acclimatized ex vitro were used as start matter for the glasshouse experiment. Ten days after plant transfer to soil, fertilizations (by means of nutritive solutions) were done corresponding to nine treatments: control (without fertilization), complete fertilization (with macro and micronutrients), and with the omissions of N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S and micronutrients (Zn, B, Cu, Fe, Mn and Mo). At 60 days of cultivation, several growth parameters were evaluated. The number of leaves per plant was the growth parameter most affected by omission of N, K, S and P in the fertilization. The effect of nutrient omission in the fertilization on biomass partitioning between plant organs were differentiated. Accumulated shoot biomass obeied the following decreasing order, in relation with the nutrient omission: Mg <FONT FACE=Symbol>@</FONT> micronutrients > Ca <FONT FACE=Symbol>@</FONT> complete fertilization > P > S > K > N <FONT FACE=Symbol>@</FONT> control. While the root biomass obeied the following decreasing order: Mg <FONT FACE=Symbol>@</FONT> complete fertilization <FONT FACE=Symbol>³</FONT> P <FONT FACE=Symbol>³</FONT> micronutrients <FONT FACE=Symbol>³</FONT> S <FONT FACE=Symbol>³</FONT> Ca > N > K <FONT FACE=Symbol>@</FONT> control. Young plants of P. glomerata grow in a Paleudalf soil showed greater reduction in growth by omission of N, K, S and P in the fertilization. The omission of Mg and micronutrients in the fertilization were not limiting to the growth of young plants.

O presente trabalho objetivou avaliar o crescimento de ginseng brasileiro (Pfaffia glomerata (Spreng.) Pedersen) cultivado in vitro sob dois níveis de nitrogênio e sacarose, durante seis subculturas sucessivas e aclimatização. Como fonte de explantes, utilizou-se segmentos nodais de plantas previamente estabelecidas in vitro. Foram testados dois tratamentos: 100% da concentração padrão de N do meio MS + 30g L-1 sacarose; e 50% da concentração padrão de N do meio MS + 45g L-1 sacarose. Durante as seis subculturas sucessivas, os explantes de plantas cultivadas por 30 dias em ambos os tratamentos foram transferidos, respectivamente, para a subcultura seguinte nos mesmos tratamentos. Ao final da 6ª subcultura, as plântulas foram transferidas para substrato Plantmax® Hortaliças e submetidas à aclimatização em sala de crescimento. Durante as subculturas, observou-se flutuações nas respostas de crescimento das plântulas às duas condições nutricionais testadas. A altura da maior brotação, a média da altura das brotações e o total de segmentos nodais por plântula, respectivamente em quatro, quatro e três subculturas, foram maiores em 100% da concentração padrão de N do meio MS + 30g L-1 sacarose do que em 50% da concentração padrão de N do meio MS + 45g L-1 sacarose. Por outro lado, as matérias secas de raízes, da parte aérea e do total das plântulas, respectivamente em duas, duas e três subculturas, foram maiores em 100% da concentração padrão de N do meio MS + 30g L-1 sacarose. Concluiu-se que o aumento da concentração de sacarose associado à redução da concentração do N estimula a produção de biomassa, enquanto o meio MS padrão estimula o crescimento em altura e número de segmentos nodais. As diferenças quanto à produção de biomassa observadas no cultivo in vitro não se refletiram no processo de aclimatização ex vitro, onde o meio MS padrão proporcionou maior crescimento em altura e número de folhas por planta.

The present research was aimed at evaluating the growth of brazilian ginseng (Pfaffia glomerata (Spreng.) Pedersen) in vitro cultured plantlets under two levels of nitrogen and sucrose, during six successive subcultures and acclimatization. Two nutritional treatments were tested: nitrogen at 100% strength of the MS medium + 30g L-1 sucrose; and nitrogen at 50% strength + 45g L-1 sucrose. During six successive subcultures, the explants of 30-day-old plantlets grown under both treatments were transferred, respectively to the next subculture on the same treatment conditions. At 6th subculture, plantlets were transferred to substrate Plantmax® Hortaliças and submitted to acclimatization in a growth chamber. Throughout the subcultures, fluctuations in growth response due to nutritional conditions tested were observed. The height of the higher sprout, the average height of sprouts, and the total number of nodal segments per plantlet, respectively for four, four and three subcultures were greater in 100% strength of the MS medium + 30g L-1 sucrose than in 50% strength + 45g L-1 sucrose. On the other hand, dry matter of roots, of shoots and of the whole plant, respectively for two, two and three subcultures, were greater in 50% strength + 45g L-1 sucrose. In conclusion, the increase of sucrose associated with reduction of N level in the culture medium enhanced the biomass production, while the MS at full strength enhanced the growth based in sprout length and number of nodal segments. These differences concerning the biomass production observed during in vitro culture did not persisted in the acclimatization process ex vitro, where MS at full strength give rise greater growth in sprout length and number of leaves per plant.

RESUMO A grápia (Apuleia leiocarpa (Vog.) Macbride) é uma espécie de grande interesse madeireiro, encontrando-se, atualmente, bastante dizimada por causa da exploração extrativista, sem haver reposição pelo reflorestamento. O presente estudo objetivou avaliar o efeito de fontes de nitrogênio mineral no crescimento de mudas de grápia. Foram avaliados cinco variações da concentração de N-NO3- e N-NH4+ (5:0, 4:1, 2,5:2,5, 1:4 e 0:5 mM de N) num arranjo experimental inteiramente casualizado com 16 repetições. A parcela experimental foi constituída de um vaso com 3,0 kg de um ARGISSOLO VERMELHO Distrófico arênico e duas plantas, sob condições de casa de vegetação. De quatro repetições escolhidas aleatoriamente, o crescimento das plantas e o pH do solo foram avaliados mensalmente a partir dos 60 até os 150 dias após a adubação (DAA). Independentemente da fonte de nitrogênio usada, o pH do solo diminuiu, sendo que aos 150 DAA a menor variação foi de 0,33 e a maior de 0,47 unidades de pH, respectivamente, nos tratamentos com 5 N-NO3-:0 N-NH4+ e 0 N-NO3-:5 N-NH4+. A presença de N-NH4+, partindo de 1 até 5 mM, provocou necrose nas folhas mais velhas e sua posterior abscisão. Aos 150 DAA, na presença de 5 mM N-NH4+, a sobrevivência das plantas foi reduzida em 31%. O efeito das fontes de N no crescimento da grápia pareceu depender da idade da planta e/ou das suas transformações no solo. Aos 120 DAA, a presença de N-NH4+ partindo da dose 2,5 mM proporcionou redução no número de nós do caule, altura de planta, diâmetro do caule, matéria seca da folha, do caule, de raízes e total da planta. Porém, em função da recuperação na taxa de crescimento, essas diferenças não foram constatadas aos 150 DAA, com exceção da razão entre a matéria seca das raízes e da parte aérea que diminuiu na presença exclusiva de N-NH4+. A razão adequada entre as fontes de N-NO3-:N-NH4+ na adubação para a produção de mudas de grápia, não deve ultrapassar, respectivamente, o valor de 4:1.

ABSTRACT Grápia (Apuleia leiocarpa (Vog.) Macbride) is an important native forest species that has been in extinction process. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of mineral nitrogen source on growth of grápia seedlings. Five variations in the concentration of N-NO3 - and N-NH4 + (5:0, 4:1, 2,5:2,5, 1:4, and 0:5 mM of N) were tested in an entirely random statistical design with 16 replicates. The experimental unity consisted of a vessel containing 3,0 kg of a Paleudalf soil and two plants, under glasshouse conditions. From 60 to 150 days after fertilization (DAF), the plant growth and soil pH were monthly analyzed from four replicates randomly taken. Independently of the nitrogen source used, the soil pH decreased, and on 150 DAF the smallest pH variation was 0.33 and the largest one was 0.47 pH units, respectively, on treatments with 5 N-NO3-:0 N-NH4+ and 0 N-NO3 -:5 N-NH4+ ratios. The presence of N-NH4+, from 1 to 5 mM, induced necrosis in old leaves and their ulterior abscission. To 150 DAF, in the presence of 5 mM N-NH4+, the plant survival was reduced to 31%. The effect of nitrogen sources on plant growth appeared to be depended on plant age and/or of their transformations in the soil. To 120 DAF, the presence of N-NH4+ from 2,5 to 5 mM reduced the number of stalk nodes, plant height, stem diameter, dry weight of leaves, of stem, of roots, and of the whole plant. However, to 150 DAF, because of the regain on the growth rate, these differences were not observed, with exception of the root/shoot dry weight ratio that was reduced on the exclusive presence of N-NH4+. The suitable N-NO3-:N-NH4+ ratio in the fertilization to grow grápia seedlings, cannot exceed, respectively, 4:1.

Macbride) é uma espécie de grande interesse madeireiro, encontrando-se, atualmente, bastante dizimada devido à exploração extrativista, sem haver reposição através de reflorestamento. O objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar os níveis ótimos de adubação de fósforo e enxofre no crescimento de plantas jovens de grápia. As plantas foram cultivadas em vasos contendo 3,5kg de solo Argissolo Vermelho distrófico arênico, sob condições de casa de vegetação não climatizada. O delineamento experimental foi o inteiramente casualizado com seis repetições. Foram avaliados 16 tratamentos em esquema bifatorial completo (4x4), representados pela combinação de quatro doses de P (0, 60, 120 e 180mg kg-1) e quatro de enxofre (0, 10, 20 e 30mg kg-1). A análise do crescimento das plantas foi realizada mensalmente através da altura da planta, diâmetro do caule e número de folhas remanescentes. Aos 130 dias após a emergência das plantas, avaliaram-se ainda o número de folhas caídas, matéria seca das folhas, caule, raízes e total da planta e a relação entre a matéria seca das raízes e da parte aérea. A produção de matéria seca total das plantas jovens de grápia respondeu positivamente à adubação conjunta de P e S, com dose de máxima eficiência técnica estimada de, respectivamente, 204 e 16mg kg-1 de solo. A adubação fosfatada na dose igual ou acima de 120mg kg-1 de solo induziu o aparecimento de clorose foliar típica da deficiência de Fe. A alta disponibilidade de P no solo favoreceu o crescimento da parte aérea em detrimento das raízes.

Grápia (Apuleia leiocarpa Vog. Macbride) is an important native forest species that has been in extinction process. The aim of this study was to determine the optimum levels of phosphorus and sulfur fertilization on the initial growth of grápia. Grápia plants were cultivated in pots containing 3.5kg of a Paleudalf soil, under unclimatized glasshouse conditions. Sixteen fertilization treatments were used in a complete bifactorial scheme (4x4), represented by the combination of four levels of P (0, 60, 120, and 180mg kg-1) and four levels of S (0, 10, 20, and 30mg kg-1). The plant growth in height, stem diameter, and number of leaves was analyzed monthly. After 130 days of cultivation other growth parameters were analyzed, as follow: number of fallen leaves, dry weight of roots, stem, leaves, and of the whole plant, and root/shoot dry weight ratio. The dry weight of the whole plant positively responded to the combination of phosphorus and sulfur fertilization, with the maximum technical efficiency level of 204 and 16mg kg-1 of soil, respectively. The phosphorus fertilization above 120mg kg-1 of soil gave rise a chlorosis in leaves similar to that of Fe deficiency. High availability of P in the soil was accounted for best growth of shoots in detriment of roots.
