A síndrome da morte súbita (SMS), causada por Fusarium solani f. sp. glycines, tem se mostrado uma das mais importantes doenças da soja, devido aos prejuízos provocados e à dificuldade de controle. Este trabalho teve como objetivo selecionar os métodos de inoculação mais eficientes para a avaliação de resistência genética de genótipos de soja à SMS. Foram realizados dois experimentos em delineamento de blocos casualizados, sendo seis tratamentos e 12 repetições, no primeiro experimento, e seis tratamentos e 16 repetições, no segundo. Cada parcela foi constituída por um vaso contendo uma planta de soja da cultivar FT Estrela, altamente suscetível à SMS e outra planta de "Conquista", moderadamente resistente. As plantas foram avaliadas quanto à incidência e à severidade da SMS a cada três dias e durante 15 dias, com início no 15 dia após a emergência. A partir dos resultados, foi estimada a área abaixo da curva de progresso da doença (AACPD) para os tratamentos. As inoculações com grãos de sorgo e milho colonizados pelo patógeno foram mais eficientes em causar doença, no primeiro experimento, e com grãos de milho, no segundo. Entretanto, nos dois experimentos, apenas a inoculação com grãos de milho foi capaz de separar a reação das cultivares quanto à resistência à SMS, de acordo com o teste de Tukey (P<0,05). Desse modo, a inoculação com grãos de milho pode ser indicada para avaliações da reação de genótipos de soja à SMS, em casa-de-vegetação.

Sudden death syndrome (SDS) caused by Fusarium solani f. sp. glycines has become one of the most important diseases in soybean due to significant yield losses and limitations for control. Control has been possible by means of genetic resistance. This work aimed to identify efficient methods of inoculation to assess the soybean genotypes genetically resistant to SDS. Two experiments were arranged in a randomized block design (RBD). The former consisted of six treatments and 12 replicates, and the latter of six treatments and 16 replicates. Each plot contained a pot with one plant of the cultivar FT Estrela, highly susceptible to SDS, and another plant of the moderately resistant cultivar Conquista. The plants were assessed in relation to incidence and severity of SDS, every three days, for fifteen days, starting from the fifteenth day of emergence. From the data obtained, the area under the disease progress curve (AUDPC) was estimated for the treatments. Inoculations with grains of sorghum and corn were the most effective in causing the appearance of the disease in the first experiment. Inoculations with corn kernels were the most effective method in causing the disease in the second experiment. However, only inoculation with corn kernels permitted the separation between genotypes in relation to SDS resistance, according to Tukey test (P<0.05) in both experiments. Thus, inoculation with corn kernels can be recommended for assessing soybean genotype reactions to SDS under greenhouse conditions.

As perdas anuais por doenças, no Brasil, são estimadas em 15-20%, representando cerca de US$1,3 bilhão de prejuízos. Este trabalho teve como objetivos estudar a associação (infecção latente) dos patógenos com a planta de soja (Glycine max) e verificar o efeito do fungicida difenoconazole e da época de aplicação sobre a infecção latente e o rendimento da soja. Foi instalado um experimento em delineamento de blocos ao acaso, com cinco repetições e quatro tratamentos; testemunha e aplicações do fungicida difenoconazole (75g i.a./ha) nos estádios de R5.3, R5.4 e R5.5. Para o estudo da infecção latente, seis plantas foram tomadas ao acaso em cada parcela nos estádios R5.2, R5.4 e R7.2. De cada planta foram coletados o folíolo central da folha do sétimo nó e segmentos de 5 cm da base, meio e topo da haste principal. Os folíolos e segmentos das hastes foram desinfestados, tratados com paraquat a 11,64%, incubados em câmara úmida por 3-4 dias e avaliados de acordo com o grau de colonização e freqüência dos fungos associados. Foram também avaliados a severidade das doenças de final de ciclo (DFC) (Septoria glycines e Cercospora kikuchii), a porcentagem de desfolha, a produtividade de grãos e o peso de 1.000 sementes (PMS). A infecção latente por Colletotrichum truncatum já havia ocorrido no estádio R5.2. A C. kikuchii ocorreu a partir de R5.2. Não foi observado efeito do fungicida ou da época de aplicação sobre a infecção latente. Não houve diferença de rendimento entre a testemunha e os estádios de aplicação do fungicida, porém, a severidade das DFC e a porcentagem de desfolha foram menores e o PMS foi maior na aplicação feita no estádio R5.4.

Diseases are the major constraints for higher yields and annual losses in Brazil are estimated at 15-20%, amounting to US$1.3 billion. This work was aimed at studying the latent infection between pathogens and the above ground parts of the soybean plants and the effect of fungicide sprays at the pod filling stages. The soybean (Glycine max) cultivar BR-37 was sown in a randomized complete block design, with four treatments (check and diphenoconazole fungicide sprays at R5.3, R5.4 and R5.5.) and five replicates each. The fungicide was sprayed at the rate of 75 g a.i. at growth stages. For the latent infection studies, six plants were randomly collected from each plot at growth stages R5.2, R5.4 and R7.2. From each plant the central leaflet of the leaf at the seventh node and segments of 5cm were collected from the lower, middle and top portions of the stem. The leaflets and stem pieces were surface disinfested, treated with 11.64% paraquat solution, incubated in moist chamber for 3-4 days and rated for fungal development based on the area of leaflet or stem piece colonized and frequency of leaflets or stem pieces with individual fungus. Late season disease severity (lsd) (brown spot and Cercospora leaf blight), percent defoliation, yield and 1.000 seed weight (tsw) were also determined. Latent infection by Colletotrichum truncatum had already occurred at R5.2. Cercospora kikuchii occurred at R5.2 and at R5.4. There were no effects of the fungicide or timing of sprays on the latent infections. There were no yield differences among the fungicide treatments but disease severity and percent defoliation were lowest and tsw was highest on fungicide treatment at R5.4.
