ABSTRACT The fitting of volume models by the traditional method (data obtained by means of scaling several trees), is the most used way to obtain volume equations. This method requires a lot of effort and is quite costly, therefore some alternatives have been developed to decrease the sampling of the number of trees and obtain results of estimates similar to that obtained by the traditional method, highlighting the mixed modeling applied to calibrate equations. In this work, the general objective of the research was to calibrate the Schumacher-Hall volume model by predicting random effects at the stand level and comparing it with the equations obtained using the traditional approach. The database is made up of 670 trees with ages varying from 1 to 10.75 years. The calibrations tested in the mixed model were using: (i) the largest tree of variable d for each stand; (ii) the two largest trees of variable d for each stand; (iii) the three largest trees in d for each stand; (iv) the four largest trees in d for each stand; (v) the five largest trees in d for each stand; (vi) the median tree for variable d in each stand; vii) one random tree in each stand; viii) three trees, being the smallest tree, the mean tree and the largest tree for the variable d for each stand; ix) three trees, being the mean tree, the mean tree minus two standard deviations and the mean tree plus two standard deviations for the variable d in each stand. The statistics for evaluating the equations were the coefficient of determination, the standard error of the estimate, the analysis of residuals, and the graphical analysis of the observed and estimated values. The results show that the volume equations can be calibrated at the stand level by sampling three trees: the average tree, the average tree plus two standard deviations, and the average tree minus two standard deviations. Considering that in the traditional method, 50 trees on average are measured in the forest inventory, the reduction of sampling in a new stand would be 94%.

RESUMO O ajuste dos modelos de volume pelo método tradicional (dados obtidos por meio de cubagem de várias árvores) é a maneira mais utilizada para obter equações de volume. Este método demanda muito esforço e é bastante oneroso, portanto algumas alternativas têm sido desenvolvidas para diminuir a amostragem do número de árvores e obter resultados de estimativas semelhantes ao obtido pelo método tradicional, destacando-se a modelagem mista aplicada para calibrar equações. Neste trabalho, o objetivo da pesquisa foi calibrar o modelo de volume de Schumacher-Hall por meio da predição de efeitos aleatórios em nível de povoamento e compará-lo com as equações obtidas pela abordagem tradicional. A base de dados é composta de 670 árvores com idades variando de 1 a 10,75 anos. As calibrações testadas no modelo misto foram: i) a maior árvore da variável d para cada povoamento; ii) as duas maiores árvores da variável d para cada povoamento; iii) as três maiores árvores em d para cada povoamento; iv) as quatro maiores árvores em d para cada povoamento; v) as cinco maiores árvores em d para cada povoamento; vi) a árvore mediana para a variável d em cada povoamento; vii) uma árvore aleatória em cada povoamento; viii) três árvores, sendo a menor árvore, a árvore média e a maior da variável d para cada povoamento; ix) três árvores, sendo a árvore média, a árvore média menos dois desvios padrões e a árvore média mais dois desvios padrões para a variável d em cada povoamento. As estatísticas para avaliação das equações foram o coeficiente de determinação, o erro padrão da estimativa, a análise de resíduos e a análise gráfica dos valores observados e estimados. Os resultados evidenciam que as equações de volume podem ser calibradas em nível de povoamento por meio da amostragem de três árvores sendo elas, a árvore média, a árvore média mais dois desvios padrões e a árvore média menos dois desvios padrões, considerando que no método tradicional são cubadas 50 árvores em média no inventário florestal, a redução da amostragem em um novo povoamento seria de 94%.

ABSTRACT One of the main difficulties in choosing forest biomass for energetic purposes is the evaluation of its quality. Thus, the objective of this research was to propose a classification of the biomass of black wattle stands based on the variables gross calorific value, energy density, ash content and biomass stock. For this purpose, commercial stands of the species were sampled in three growing regions (Cristal, Encruzilhada do Sul and Piratini) in Rio Grande do Sul, with 1 to 10 years old classified into age groups I, II, III and IV. In these stands, 670 trees were felled, their biometric and energetic variables were measured. From these locations, meteorological and edaphic variables were also collected. Cluster analysis was used to separate the predictor variables into three quality classes called low, medium and high. Discriminant analysis revealed two functions capable of classifying new observations into quality classes. The discriminant functions were able to correctly classify more than 51% of the trees based on gross calorific value, 65% based on energy density, 89% on ash content and 85% on energy stock. The biometric, energetic and meteorological variables contributed to the discrimination of the quality classes.

RESUMO Uma das principais dificuldades na escolha de uma biomassa florestal para fins energéticos está na avaliação de sua qualidade. Desse modo, o objetivo desta pesquisa foi propor uma classificação da biomassa de povoamentos de acácia negra com base nas variáveis poder calorífico superior, densidade energética, teor de cinzas e estoque de biomassa. Para esse fim, povoamentos comerciais da espécie foram amostrados em três regiões de cultivo (Cristal, Encruzilhada do Sul e Piratini) no Rio Grande do Sul, com 1 a 10 anos classificados em grupos de idade I, II, III e IV. Nesses povoamentos, foram abatidas 670 árvores, as quais tiveram suas variáveis biométricas e energéticas mensuradas. Desses locais, também foram coletadas variáveis meteorológicas e edáficas. A análise de agrupamento (cluster) foi utilizada para separar as variáveis preditoras em três classes de qualidade denominadas baixa, média e alta. A análise discriminante revelou duas funções capazes de classificar novas observações nas classes de qualidade. As funções discriminantes conseguiram classificar corretamente mais de 51% das árvores com base no poder calorífico superior, 65% com base na densidade energética, 89% no teor de cinzas e 85% no estoque energético. As variáveis biométricas, energéticas e meteorológicas contribuíram para a discriminação das classes de qualidade.

Resumo O gênero Tibouchina apresenta aproximadamente 350 espécies, dentre elas, Tibouchina affinis fothergillae, Tibouchina heteromalla, Tibouchina moricandiana var. vinaceae e Tibouchina sellowiana. Por se tratarem de espécies nativas do Brasil, podem ser utilizadas para revegetação de áreas antropizadas, devido à característica pioneira. A presente pesquisa objetivou estudar a propagação vegetativa via miniestaquia, utilizando ácido indol butírico (AIB) e ácido fúlvico (AF), bem como realizar determinações bioquímicas e quantificar a produtividade de minicepas destas espécies. Os propágulos foram coletados de um minijardim clonal, nos meses de abril, junho, setembro e novembro/2017, confeccionados com 5+1 cm de comprimento, corte em bisel na base e reto no ápice, mantendo-se um par de folhas reduzidas à metade. As bases das miniestacas foram submetidas aos tratamentos: 0 mg L-1AIB/AF, 2000 mg L-1AIB, 2000 mg L-1AF e 2000 mg L-1AIB+AF. O experimento foi instalado utilizando-se tubetes de 53 cm³ com vermiculita, avaliados após 33 dias de permanência em casa de vegetação, considerando-se a porcentagem de enraizamento das miniestacas. O delineamento foi inteiramente casualizado, num esquema fatorial de 4x4 (quatro épocas de coleta x quatro tratamentos), conduzido individualmente/espécie. As espécies não responderam aos tratamentos com AIB/AF. Nas diferentes épocas de coleta dos propágulos, o enraizamento foi superior a 95% para todas as espécies em abril, setembro e novembro, exceto para Tibouchina sellowiana com 49% de enraizamento no mês de novembro, demonstrando o efeito direto das condições ambientais as quais as plantas matrizes estavam sujeitas, sob a rizogênese. Conclui-se que não há necessidade da aplicação de AIB/AF para a propagação vegetativa das diferentes espécies de Tibouchina, sendo viável o uso da técnica de miniestaquia. Visando a maior produtividade de miniestacas, recomenda-se coletar os propágulos em abril para Tibouchina affinis fothergillae e Tibouchina moricandiana var. vinaceae, em novembro para Tibouchina heteromalla e em junho para Tibouchina sellowiana.

Abstract Tibouchina gene showed approximately 350 species, among these, Tibouchina affinis fothergillae, Tibouchina heteromalla, Tibouchina moricandiana var. vinaceae, Tibouchina sellowiana, are native species of Brazil, were used for revegetation in anthropized areas, due to the pioneerinh chacacteristic. The present research aimed to study rhizogenic from the technique of plant propagation by minicutting with the use of indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) and fulvic acid (FA), biochemical determinations, in addition to the ministumps production. The minicuttings were sampled in april, june, september and november and prepared with 5+1 cm length, bevel cut at the base and straight in the apical portion, keeping two leaves reduced to half. The bases of the minicuttings were to put to different treatments: 0 mg L-1 IBA/FA, 2000 mg L-1 IBA, 2000 mg L-1 FA and 2000 mg L-1 IBA+FA. The installation was in tubes with 53 cm3 with vermiculite, evaluating after 33 days of stay in the greenhouse, analyzed the rooting percentage of minicutting. The experimental design was completely randomized in a factorial of 4x4 (4 sample x 4 treatments). Rooting was greater than 95% for all species in the samples held in april, september and november, except to Tibouchina sellowiana with 49% of rooting in the month of November, showing the direct effect of the environment under the rizogenic. Concluded was unnecessary supplementation with exogenous IBA and FA for technical minicutting of different Tibouchina species. The production of minicutting was viable in april for Tibouchina affinis fothergillae and Tibouchina moricandiana var. vinaceae, in november Tibouchina heteromalla and june Tibouchina sellowiana.

RESUMO As flores tas de pinus vêm sendo implantadas no sul do Brasil desde a década de 1960 em diferentes espaçamentos e colhidas em prazos mais curtos para aumentar a produção de madeira. A redução do período de rotação e a alteração do espaçamento das plantações florestais podem influenciar nas propriedades físicas e mecânicas da madeira, por tratar-se de árvores mais jovens que ainda não possuem uma quantidade significativa de madeira adulta em sua composição. Nesse contexto, o objetivo desta pesquisa foi estudar a influência de três espaçamentos de plantio (3,0 × 2,0 m, 4,0 × 2,0 m e 2,0 × 2,0 m) e duas idades (13 e 15 anos) nas características de crescimento e nas propriedades físico-mecânicas da madeira, bem como a relação entre elas. Foi avaliada a densidade aparente, a porcentagem de lenho tardio, o número de anéis por polegada, a resistência e a rigidez em flexão estática e em compressão paralela, e a resistência ao cisalhamento. Os espaçamentos de plantio avaliados não causaram alterações estatisticamente significativas nas propriedades mecânicas da madeira juvenil de Pinus taeda L. As idades estudadas não influenciaram na densidade aparente da madeira, mas o aumento da idade de corte de 13 para 15 anos aumentou significativamente a resistência e a rigidez da madeira. Houve correlação significativa entre as características de crescimento das árvores e a resistência e rigidez, em flexão estática e em compressão paralela, com R2 próximo de 0,500, o que sugere que as características de crescimento podem ser utilizadas para auxiliar na estimativa destas propriedades. A madeira de Pinus taeda L. utilizada neste estudo pode ser classificada como madeira estrutural, classe C20 para 13 anos de idade e classes C25 e C30 para 15 anos de idade, de acordo com a norma NBR 7190/97.

ABSTRACT Pinus forests have been implanted in the South of Brazil since the 1960s in different spacing and harvested in shorter terms to increase wood yield. Reducing the rotation period and changing the spacing of forest plantations can influence the wood’s physical and mechanical properties, as they are younger trees that do not yet have a significant amount of mature wood in their composition. In this context, this research aimed to study the influence of three levels of planting spacing (3.0 × 2.0 m, 4.0 × 2.0 m, and 2.0 × 2.0 m) and two ages (13 and 15 years old) on growth characteristics and physical-mechanical properties of wood, as well as the relationship between them. Apparent density, latewood percentage, rings per inch, strength and stiffness in static bending as well as compression parallel to the grain, and shear strength were evaluated. The evaluated planting spacings did not cause statistically significant changes in the mechanical properties of juvenile Pinus taeda L. wood. The studied ages did not influence the wood’s apparent density. However, changing the cutting age from 13 to 15 years significantly increased the strength and stiffness of the wood. There was a statistically significant correlation between tree growth characteristics and strength, and stiffness in bending and parallel compression, around 0.500 R2, which suggests that this parameter can be used to assist in estimating those properties. The wood of Pinus taeda L used in this study can be classified as structural wood, class C20 for 13 years-old trees and classes C25 and C30 for 15 years-old trees, according to NBR 7190/97 requirements.

ABSTRACT Background: Curitiba prismatica (D.Legrand) Salywon & Landrum belongs to the Myrtaceae family and it is popularly known as murta. Endemic to the Mixed Ombrophilous Forest of south Brazil, is predominant in Faxinal System, which is a traditional agricultural system in the State of Paraná. This species also has several uses and potentials, such as wood for fence posts and essential oils with pharmacological properties. For this reason, this study aimed to select molecular markers and assess whether the Faxinal System contributes to the maintenance of the genetic diversity of the species, helping in its management and conservation. As such, 120 adult reproductive individuals were sampled, 60 in two areas managed in the Faxinal System, and 60 in two conservation areas. Results: Initially, 30 ISSR markers were selected, but only eight showed considerable variability, resulting in 68 polymorphic loci. The results show that the average diversity within populations is 80.54%. The Shannon (I) and Nei’s (He) diversity indices were 0.53 and 0.36, respectively. According to Nei’s genetic identity, the populations form two groups. With the analysis of the genetic structure of the populations, which indicated the existence of two distinct genetic groups (K = 2). Conclusion: Thus, the populations in the Faxinal System had higher rates of genetic diversity, despite constant human activity within the system. Therefore, the Faxinal System contributes to the conservation of C. prismatica genetic diversity; however, considering the economic potential of the species and to minimize impacts on the existing fragments, there is a need to work with the local population to ensure sustainable forest management of the species.

ABSTRACT. Grafting is an alternative method for the early production of Araucaria angustifolia seeds, and welding quality is essential for the success of the technique. The objective of this study was to create a classification of welding quality to estimate the percentage of scion survival. The patch and flute grafting techniques were used in a greenhouse and in the field. Survival was evaluated 270 days after grafting (DAG). At 60 DAG, observations of the graft connection region were made with the naked eye, classifying the connections into four welding classes. After 160 DAG, transverse cuts were performed on each class and visually and anatomically evaluated. Flute grafting presented higher initial survival (79%), but at 180 DAG, the survival rate of both techniques was similar (48% for flute and 41% for patch). There was greater scion survival for the class that had only two regions in contact with discontinuity in the bark. Stabilization of survival occurred after 180 DAG, regardless of the welding class. Visually, there were differences in welding quality; however, anatomically, all classes presented vascular connections. The visual welding quality assessment underestimated the percentage of scion survival. However, the vascular connection and development of parenchymatous tissue are promising for diagnosing grafting success.

Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar os métodos galharia, cobertura por plástico preto, herbicida e poleiro artificial na regeneração natural de espécies nativas em área com pastagem de Urochloa. O experimento foi conduzido entre fevereiro de 2014 e fevereiro de 2016 na Floresta Ombrófila Densa, no município de Morretes, no estado do Paraná, Brasil. Os tratamentos foram: herbicida, herbicida + poleiro, cobertura por plástico preto, cobertura por plástico preto + poleiro, galharia + herbicida, galharia + herbicida + poleiro e testemunha. As avaliações foram realizadas aos 4, 8, 12, 18 e 24 meses após a instalação do experimento, com contagem e identificação das espécies lenhosas regenerantes e estimativa visual do percentual de cobertura por herbáceas. Inicialmente, a galharia e a cobertura por plástico preto reduziram as gramíneas Urochloa; entretanto, com o decorrer do tempo, esse efeito se perdeu devido ao rápido crescimento das gramíneas das bordas para o centro das parcelas. O uso de poleiros nos tratamentos não possibilita incremento significativo de outras espécies, em razão da permanência das condições inibidoras ao estabelecimento das plântulas. O herbicida é eficiente para remover as gramíneas; contudo, o recrutamento de espécies lenhosas somente é satisfatório com o uso de poleiros para atração da fauna dispersora. Para o sucesso da restauração ecológica em pastagens, há a necessidade de eliminação local das gramíneas Urochloa.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of brushwood, black plastic mulch, herbicide, and artificial perch on the natural regeneration of native species in Urochloa grassland. The experiment was conducted between February 2014 and February 2016 in the Dense Ombrophilous Forest, in the municipality of Morretes, in the state of Paraná, Brazil. The treatments were: herbicide, herbicide + perch, black plastic mulch, black plastic mulch + perch, brushwood + herbicide, brushwood + herbicide + perch, and a control treatment. The evaluations were carried out at 4, 8, 12, 18, and 24 months after the installation of the experiment, by counting and identifying regenerating woody species and estimating visually the percentage of herbaceous coverage. Initially, brushwood and black plastic mulch reduced the Urochloa grasses; however, this effect was lost over time due to the rapid growth of the grasses from the edges to the center of the plots. The use of perches in the treatments does not allow a significant increase of other species because of the continued inhibiting conditions for the establishment of seedlings. The herbicide is effective in removing the grasses; however, the recruitment of woody species is only satisfactory when perches are used to attract the dispersing fauna. For a successful ecological restoration of pastures, there is a need for the local elimination of Urochloa grasses.

SUMMARY: Plants producing fruits for many months of the year, or at times when few species bear fruits, are highly valuable for restoration of degraded ecosystems due to their ability to attract and support dispersing fauna. An example of this are native fig trees such as Ficus enormis. Thus, in view of the difficulties for F. enormis seedlings production, we aimed at developing a method of cuttings propagation by evaluating the rooting and root vigor of cuttings from a field clonal garden. The experiment was established between June/2015 and May/2016 at Laboratory of Forest Species Propagation of Embrapa Florestas, in Colombo-PR. We evaluated collection of cuttings during three seasons (winter, spring and summer) and application of concentrations of indole-3-butyric acid - IBA (0, 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000 mg L-1). After 45 days of cuttings establishment in an acclimatized greenhouse, the best results for rooting, number of roots, average length of the three largest roots per cutting and maintenance of leaves and shoots were found in spring and summer. Using plant regulator did not influence the rooting or root vigor of propagules; the time of the year was the predominant factor to induce rooting. The results show that the cuttings technique with propagules from a clonal garden is efficient for producing F. enormis plants and can serve as a basis for the species propagation.

RESUMEN: Las plantas que producen frutos durante muchos meses del año, o en momentos en que pocas especies dan frutos, son de gran valor para la restauración de ecosistemas degradados debido a su capacidad para atraer y apoyar la fauna dispersora. Un ejemplo de esto son las higueras nativas como Ficus enormis. Por las dificultades para la producción de plántulas de F. enormis, fue evaluada la propagación de esquejes mediante enraizamiento y vigor de sus raíces de un jardín clonal de campo. El experimento se estableció entre junio/2015 y mayo/2016 en el Laboratorio de Propagación de Especies Forestales de Embrapa Florestas, en Colombo-PR. Se evaluó la recolección de esquejes durante tres estaciones (invierno, primavera y verano) y la aplicación de concentraciones de ácido indol-3-butírico - IBA (0, 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000 mg L-1). Después de 45 días de establecimiento de esquejes en un invernadero climatizado, los mejores resultados para el enraizamiento, el número de raíces, la longitud promedio de las tres raíces más grandes por corte, el mantenimiento de las hojas y los brotes se encontraron en primavera y verano. El uso del regulador de la planta no influyó en el enraizamiento y el vigor de las raíces de los propágulos, y la época del año fue el factor predominante para inducir el enraizamiento. Los resultados muestran que la técnica de esquejes con propágulos de un jardín clonal es eficiente para producir plantas de F. enormis y puede servir como base para la propagación de esta especie.

RESUMO Muitos estudos sobre ergonomia em operações florestais são pontuais e abordam isoladamente as variáveis ergonômicas, com cada resultado obtido em uma escala específica. Objetivou-se aprimorar um indicador ergonômico por meio de uma classificação de acordo com a urgência da intervenção ergonômica, com vistas a melhorar sua praticidade de aplicação em máquinas de colheita florestal. Esta pesquisa foi realizada em florestas plantadas de uma empresa do Sul do Brasil, a partir de avaliações ergonômicas nas máquinas feller buncher, skidder, processador florestal, harvesters e forwarder, nos turnos diurno e noturno de trabalho. Mediu-se vibração, ruído, calor, iluminância, repetitividade, posturas e ângulos de visibilidade. Os resultados das avaliações ergonômicas foram padronizados pela adaptação do método do Grau de Conformidade (V) ergonômica calculado com as normas da legislação, possuindo valor entre 0 e 1, sendo que quanto maior o valor, maior a conformidade com as efetivas normas e diretrizes. Propôs-se uma classificação do grau de urgência ergonômica em cores distintas. O skidder apresentou os piores graus de conformidade, necessitando medidas corretivas emergenciais, com destaque para vibrações (V 0,0 e 0,1), ruído (V 0,2) e visibilidade no plano lateral (V 0,0) em ambos os turnos trabalhados, em decorrência dos choques e solavancos no deslocamento da máquina e na dificuldade de visibilidade da operação, além de iluminância (V 0,6) no período noturno e o calor (V 0,8) no diurno. O processador florestal apresentou o melhor desempenho ergonômico, sem emergências, porém ressaltando cuidados com ruído (V 0,7 e 0,8) e dose diária de vibração (V 0,8 e 0,7) em ambos os turnos. A classificação por meio de uma escala de cores possibilitou melhor interpretação dos indicadores e facilidade na aplicação prática das intervenções ergonômicas corretivas.

ABSTRACT Many studies on ergonomics in forestry operations are punctual and assess ergonomic variables in isolation, with each result being obtained on a specific scale. Thus, the objective of this study was to improve an ergonomic indicator through a classification according to the urgency of the ergonomic intervention, to improve its practicality of application in forest harvesting machines. This research was carried out in planted forests of a company in Southern Brazil, and based on ergonomic evaluations of a feller buncher, a skidder, a forest processor, harvesters, and forwarder machines during the day and night shifts. Vibration, noise, heat, illumination, repeatability, postures, and visibility angles were measured. The results of the ergonomic assessments were standardized by adapting the ergonomic Degree of Compliance (V) method calculated with the legislation norms, having a value between 0 and 1, and the higher the value, the greater the compliance with effective norms and guidelines. It was proposed to classify the degree of ergonomic urgency in different colors. The skidder showed the worst degrees of compliance, requiring emergency corrective measures, with an emphasis on vibrations (V 0.0 and 0.1), noise (V 0.2) and visibility in the lateral plane (V 0.0) in both shifts worked due to shocks and bumps in the machine’s movements and visibility difficulty in the operation, in addition to illumination (V 0.6) at night and heat (V 0.8) in the daytime. The forestry processor showed the best ergonomic performance without any urgencies but emphasizing care with noise (V 0.7 and 0.8) and the daily dose of vibration (V 0.8 and 0.7) in both shifts. The classification by a color scale made it possible to better interpret the indicators and facilitate the practical application of corrective ergonomic interventions.

Abstract This study aimed to perform a comparative analysis between models of mechanical maintenance in forestry machines, subsidizing operational planning in order to reduce production costs. The work was conducted in a forestry company with feller bunchers, skidders and harvester machines. The comparative analysis included the Traditional Maintenance and the World Class Maintenance (WCM) models in the judgment of mechanical availability, hydraulic oil consumption and maintenance costs. Using the WCM maintenance model, the results showed a 5% increase in mechanical availability and a 60% reduction in hydraulic oil consumption. The maintenance cost increased by 3% in the WCM model due to an investment in infrastructure and the training of mechanics, but with the potential for better maintenance of forest machines, along with improvements in operational safety, production capacity and longer machine life.

ABSTRACT The pearl millet is a potential feedstock for biomass production under sensitive areas to climate changes, as the southern coast of Brazil. Looking for the sustainability of small-scale vegetable farmers on that region, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of pearl millet as a cover crop on suppression of weeds during no-tillage cultivation of broccoli for two consecutive sea sons. The experimental design was a randomized block with four treatments and four replications in split-plot design over time. Soil covering with whole millet; milled millet; spontaneous weeds (fallow) and conventional planting were tested; by they could causes changes in the community of weeds, either in the occurrence of weed species and in the accumulation of their biomass with influence on the yield of broccoli. The weed species density average over the two seasons, from higher to lower, followed respectively: Cyperus rotundus, Eleusine indica, Galinsoga quadriradiata, Cynodon dactylon, Commelina erecta and Amaranthus lividus. It was verified that soil covering with pear millet has altered weeds population dynamic and their biomass, being efficient in suppress the emergence of weeds. At the second season, the soil covered with whole pearl millet increased the yield of broccoli in comparison to the conventional system, being a sustainable technique for family farmers.

RESUMEN El mijo perla es una especie potencial para la producción de biomasa en áreas sensibles a los cambios climáticos, como la costa sur de Brasil. Buscando la sostenibilidad de los pequeños productores de hortalizas en esa región, el objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar el efecto del mijo perla como cultivo de cobertura en la supresión de las malas hierbas durante el cultivo de brócoli cero labranza durante dos temporadas consecutivas. El diseño experimental fue un bloque aleatorio con cuatro tratamientos y cuatro repeticiones en el diseño de parcelas divididas a lo largo del tiempo. Suelo cubierto con mijo entero; mijo aplastado; malezas espontáneas (barbecho) y la siembra convencional se ensayaron para comprobar si podrían causar cambios en la comunidad de malezas, ya sea en la presencia de especies de malezas y en la acumulación de su biomasa con influencia en el rendimiento del brócoli. La densidad promedio de las especies de malezas durante las dos estaciones, siguió respectivamente: Cyperus rotundus, Eleusine indica, Galinsoga quadriradiata, Cynodon dactylon, Commelina erecta y Amaranthus lividus. Se verificó que la cobertura del suelo con mijo perla ha alterado la dinámica poblacional de las malezas y su biomasa, siendo eficaz para limitar la aparición de malezas. En la segunda temporada, el suelo cubierto con mijo perla entero aumentó el rendimiento del brócoli en comparación con el sistema convencional, siendo una técnica sostenible para los agricultores familiares.

RESUMO Esta pesquisa avaliou a compactação de um Nitossolo Bruno causada por diferentes intensidades de tráfego do feller direcional e skidder na colheita de madeira em um povoamento de Pinus taeda. Os dados foram coletados em uma empresa florestal localizada no estado do Paraná, Brasil. O procedimento de amostragem foi realizado pela instalação de quatro blocos (30 m × 15 m) com parcelas subdivididas e os tratamentos representados pela combinação de cinco simulações de tráfego das máquinas feller direcional e skidder, aplicadas nas parcelas em quatro profundidades do solo e em subparcelas. A compactação foi avaliada pela densidade do solo, porosidade total, microporosidade e macroporosidade. Os dados foram submetidos à análise de variância e as médias comparadas pelo teste de Tukey ao nível de 5% de significância. Foram ainda ajustadas equações de regressão linear para representar a relação entre a intensidade do tráfego, profundidade e a variável considerada. Os resultados mostraram que tráfego das máquinas provocou maior compactação nas camadas superficiais do solo, resultando em incrementos na densidade do solo na ordem de 14,6% em relação à condição sem tráfego de máquinas. O aumento da intensidade de tráfego do skidder contribuiu com a redução de 62,5% e 53,8% nos valores de macroporosidade para as profundidades de 0-10 e 10-20 cm, respectivamente. A atividade de arraste das árvores com o trator skidder contribuiu para o aumento da compactação do solo, acarretada pelas diversas passadas da máquina em uma única linha.

ABSTRACT This study evaluated the compaction of a Bruno Nitisol caused by traffic intensities by a directional feller and skidder used to wood harvesting in a Pinus taeda stand. Data were collected at a forest company located in Parana State, Brazil. Samples were performed using an installation of four blocks (30 × 15 m) with subdivided plots and the treatments included a combination of five traffic simulations of directional feller and skidder machines, with the simulations performed in the plots at four soil depths, referred to as subplots. Compaction was evaluated by soil density, total porosity, microporosity, and macroporosity. The data were submitted to analysis of variance and the means were compared with the Tukey test at a 5% level of significance. Linear regression equations were also adjusted to represent the relation between traffic intensity, depth, and the variable of interest. The results showed that machine traffic caused higher compaction of the superficial soil layers, resulting in a 14.6% increase in soil density compared to the soil subjected to no machine traffic. The increase in traffic intensity of the skidder tractor reduced macroporosity by 62.5% and 53.8% at depths of 0-10 and 10-20 cm, respectively. Dragging of the logs by the skidder tractor increased soil compaction due to the several trips by the machine in a single line.

ABSTRACT The objective of this work was to evaluate the technical feasibility of budding in A. angustifolia in two rootstocks establishment, performed in two seasons of the year. In October and April, patch and flute budding techniques were carried on rootstocks kept indoor (greenhouse) and established outdoor (field), with grafts of adult female plants. The percentage of survival, percentage of shoots and number of shoots up to 300 days after budding (DAB) were evaluated. The patch budding performed in October showed the greatest grafts survival rates (82%) and percentage of shoots in the grafts (64%) at 180 DAB. The flute budding showed highest number of shoots (2.7 at 120 DAB and 3.5 at 180 DAB) when compared to patch budding. The use of the patch budding is recommended in spring, not requiring a controlled environment for the rootstocks. After 180 DAB there were no losses of grafted plants.

Abstract Stevia (stevia rebaudiana Bertoni) is a species characterized by producing non-caloric substances with high sweetening potential. Among these substances, rebaudioside A and stevioside are produced in greater quantity. Plant density and harvesting time are factors that affects biomass and sweetening compounds yield in this species. The objective of this research was to evaluate the effect of plant densities and harvesting times on the productive and physiological characteristics of stevia in southern Brazil. The experimental design was in randomized blocks, in a split-plot scheme, with 9 treatments comparing the effect of three planting densities (166 667, 83 333 and 33 333 plants ha-1) in the plots and three harvesting periods (before, in the beginning and in full flowering) in the subplots. Harvesting at the beginning of flowering promoted higher dry leaf biomass yield and, when associated with the lowest planting density, promoted higher levels of rebaudioside A and stevioside. The lowest planting density resulted in greater leaves biomass accumulation, whereas the highest density promoted higher yields per area. Interaction between density of 166 667 plants ha-1 and the harvest at the onset of flowering promoted higher yields of rebaudioside A (43.22 kg ha-1) as well as higher rebaudioside A/stevioside ratio (0.60).

RESUMO A guabiroba (Campomanesia xanthocarpa) é uma espécie arbórea nativa do Brasil e tem sua distribuição de Minas Gerais até o Rio Grande do Sul, ocorrendo também na Argentina (Misiones), Paraguai e Bolívia. Pode ser usada em paisagismo, pomares domésticos ou para repovoar áreas de proteção ambiental. Seu fruto é bastante apreciado para a produção de sucos, geleias, sorvetes, licores, ou mesmo para consumo in natura. No entanto, existem poucas informações sobre a sua propagação vegetativa. Este trabalho teve por objetivo avaliar o emprego da alporquia como técnica de resgate vegetativo de Campomanesia xanthocarpa. Foram utilizadas 10 plantas-matrizes de Campomanesia xanthocarpa, das quais, ramos jovens, com circunferência entre 3 e 5 cm, foram selecionados para retirada de um anel de casca de aproximadamente 2,0 cm de largura com o auxílio de um estilete a distâncias aproximadas de 30 cm acima da inserção dos ramos no caule. Em cada ferimento foram adicionadas diferentes concentrações de ácido indolbutírico (AIB) (0, 500, 1000 e 2000 mg Kg-1AIB) veiculadas em pasta de vaselina. Em seguida, a região foi envolvida com substrato vermiculita e plástico transparente. Após um ano da confecção dos alporques, foram avaliados: a taxa de sobrevivência, o percentual de calejamento, o percentual de enraizamento e o número de raízes por alporque. A técnica de alporquia em Campomanesia xanthocarpa, utilizando o regulador vegetal AIB não foi eficiente, pois não promoveu o enraizamento dos ramos.

ABSTRACT Guabiroba (Campomanesi axanthocarpa) is an arboreal species native from Brazil, and can be found from Minas Gerais to Rio Grande do Sul state, besides Argentina (Missiones), Paraguay and Bolivia. It can be used for paisagism, orchards, farms, afforestation and environmental recovery. Its fruit is appreciated in the production of juice, jelly, ice cream, liqueur or even in natura. However, there is little information about its propagation. This work aimed to evaluate an air layering method with the intention to study vegetal rescue techniques of Campomanesia xanthocarpa. Ten stock plants of C. xanthocarpa were used for air layering, their young branches, with circunference range 3 - 5 cm, were obtained peridemic rings with approximately 2.0 cm width using a knife, at a distance of 30 cm above the intersection branch. In each ring was added a different concentration of indolebutyricacid (IBA) (0, 500, 1000 e 2000 mgKg-1) diluted in vaseline paste. Then, the region was wrapped with vermiculite substrate and transparent plastic. After one year of layering test, surviving percentage, callus percentage, rooting percentage and the number of roots per branch were evaluated. The air layering technique in Campomanesia xanthocarpa using plant growth regulator IBA was not efficient, because it did not promote the rooting of branches.
