ABSTRACT Euschistus heros is one the most important pest insect in soybean fields in Brazil. Therefore, site-specific management applied for controlling E. heros can result in economic and environmental benefits. However, sampling protocols for assessing spatialtemporal variability of this soybean pest and, then, for guiding a more sustainable pest management, were still unknown. Thus, the objective of this study was to compare the efficiency of sampling grid sizes for monitoring the spatial variability of E. heros infestation along the soybean reproductive stages. Nine sampling campaigns were carried out using the beating sheet method, from R2 to R7 soybean phenological stages. It was used a sampling grid of 10 × 10 m, totaling 338 points in an soybean field of 3.4 ha, located in Londrina, PR, Brazil, during the 2011/2012 growing season. Increased sampling grid sizes (i.e., 10 × 10 m, 10 × 20 m, 20 × 20 m, 20 × 30 m, 30 × 30 m, 30 × 40 m, and 40 × 40 m) were simulated by deleting points from the initial (reference) sampling grid. The data were analysed through statistical and geostatistical procedures. Thematic maps were built and compared using Pearson’s correlation and relative deviation coefficient (RDC). Spatial variability distribution pattern of E. heros infestation was dependent on sampling grid size and infestation pressure, in which smaller sampling grids and higher E. heros infestations enabled a more accurate monitoring. Based on study, an accurate protocol (r > 0.70 and RDC < 20%) for monitoring high infestation (i.e., > 2 individual per meter) of E. heros in soybean reproductive stages should include sampling grids smaller or equal to 20 × 20 m.

RESUMO A criação de suínos tem aumentado nos últimos anos, ocasionando a produção de elevada quantidade de dejeto líquido, cuja alternativa para seu uso é a aplicação no solo como fonte de fertilizante orgânico. O objetivo do trabalho foi determinar a influência de dejeto líquido de suínos na comunidade da fauna do solo em sistema plantio direto. O trabalho foi desenvolvido em área experimental no município de Taquaruçu do Sul-RS. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos casualizados em arranjo fatorial (4+1) x 4, sendo cinco tratamentos de adubações: 0 (sem adubo), 20; 40 e 80 m3 ha-1 de dejetos líquido de suínos e tratamento adicional (adubação mineral) e quatro avaliações: correspondendo ao número de aplicações do dejeto líquido de suínos (1ª, 2ª, 3ª e 4ª aplicação), com quatro repetições. As coletas da fauna edáfica foram realizadas com armadilhas tipo PROVID. Avaliou-se a frequência relativa dos grupos da fauna edáfica, população de colêmbolos e ácaros, densidade, riqueza, índice dominância de Simpson e diversidade de Shannon. A população de ácaros e colêmbolos e os índices de diversidade, riqueza e dominância são influenciados pela aplicação sucessiva de dejeto líquido de suínos. Aplicações sucessivas de dejeto líquido de suíno aumenta a diversidade da fauna do solo pela redução na população de organismos da ordem Collembola. A análise de correlação canônica evidenciou associação do número de colêmbolos com 80 m3 ha-1 de dejeto líquido de suínos após a terceira aplicação.

ABSTRACT Pig farming has increased in recent years, resulting in the production of a large quantity of liquid manure, which can be used as a source of organic fertiliser. The aim of this work was to determine the influence of pig slurry on the community of soil fauna in a system of direct seeding. The study was carried out in an experimental area in the town of Taquaruçu do Sul, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The experimental design was of randomised blocks in a (4 + 1) x 4 factorial scheme, comprising five fertilisation treatments, 0 (no fertiliser), 20, 40 and 80 m3 of pig slurry ha-1 and one additional treatment (mineral fertiliser), with four evaluations corresponding to the number of slurry application (1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th application), and four replications. The soil fauna was sampled using PROVID traps. The following were evaluated: the relative frequency of the groups of soil fauna, the populations of springtails and mites, density, richness, Simpson's dominance index and the Shannon diversity index. The populations of mites and springtails, and indices of diversity, richness and dominance are influenced by the successive application of pig slurry. Successive applications of pig slurry increase the diversity of the soil fauna by reducing the population of organisms of the Order Collembola. Canonical correlation analysis showed an association between the number of springtails and 80 m3 of pig slurry ha-1 after the third application.

Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o desempenho de inseticidas autorizados emergencialmente para o controle de Helicoverpa armigera (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) em soja. Sete inseticidas foram pulverizados em campo e, após 24 horas, folhas do ponteiro foram coletadas e oferecidas para lagartas de 2o instar em laboratório. Lagartas do 4o instar receberam a última folha trifoliolada que se encontrava completamente expandida no momento da pulverização. Outro grupo foi exposto a folhas coletadas a partir de 72 horas da pulverização. Em campo, seis inseticidas foram pulverizados e, em seguida, as plantas foram infestadas com lagartas de 2o e 3o instar. No primeiro estudo, flubendiamida, clorantraniliprole, clorfenapir, indoxacarbe e metoxifenozida causaram 100% de mortalidade do 4o instar aos oito dias após o início da exposição, enquanto baculovírus e Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) propiciaram mortalidade de 60-75%, que evoluiu para 88-90% ao final da fase de pupa. Para o 2o instar, apenas flubendiamida e clorantraniliprole proporcionaram mortalidade de 100%. Flubendiamida, clorantraniliprole e clorfenapir apresentaram o menor tempo letal para o 4o instar, e flubendiamida e clorantraniliprole, para o 2o instar. Após 72 horas da pulverização, o desempenho dos inseticidas foi insatisfatório. Em campo, houve eficiência satisfatória de flubendiamida, espinosade, baculovírus e Bt sobre lagartas de 2o e 3o instar.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the performance of insecticides authorized on an emergency basis to control of Helicoverpa armigera (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) in soybean. Seven insecticides were sprayed on the field and, 24 hours after that, soybean pointer leaves were collected and offered to 2nd instar larvae in the laboratory. Fourth instar larvae received the last trifoliate leaf that was fully expanded at the time of spraying. Another larvae group was exposed to leaves collected from 72 hours onwards after spraying. In the field, six insecticides were sprayed, and then the plants were infested with 2nd and 3rd instar larvae. In the first study, flubendiamide, chlorantraniliprole, chlorfenapyr, indoxacarb, and methoxyfenozide caused 100% mortality of the 4th instar, eight days after the beginning of exposure, while baculovirus and Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) caused 60-75% mortality, which reached 88-90% at the end of the pupal stage. For 2nd instar larvae, only flubendiamide and chlorantraniliprole caused 100% mortality. Flubendiamide, chlorantraniliprole, and chlorfenapyr showed the lowest lethal time for the 4th instar, and flubendiamide and chlorantraniliprole for the 2nd instar. Seventy-two hours after spraying, the performance of insecticides was not satisfactory. In the field, there was satisfactory efficiency of flubendiamide, spinosad, baculovirus, and Bt on 2nd and 3rd instar larvae.

RESUMO Durante a aplicação de inseticidas, na cultura da soja, forma-se um gradiente vertical de deposição do produto ao longo do dossel, resultando em dificuldades no controle dos percevejos que se encontram nos terços médio e inferior das plantas. Objetivou-se avaliar a sistematicidade do inseticida tiametoxam em diferentes estágios da cultura da soja, utilizando-se o percevejo marrom como bioindicador da ação do inseticida. O estudo combinou locais de aplicação do produto (terço inferior, médio e superior) e de infestação dos percevejos, em cinco fases do estágio fenológico (R2, R3, R4, R5.2 e R6) da cultura da soja. Nos estágios R2 e R5.2, as plantas apresentaram translocação acropetal do produto, sendo o efeito mais pronunciado no estágio R2. Nos estágios R3, R4 e R6, não houve translocação suficiente do produto para o controle dos percevejos. Em todos os estágios, nos tratamentos com exposição direta (mesmo local de infestação e pulverização), houve controle satisfatório dos percevejos.

ABSTRACT During the application of pesticides on soybean fields, a vertical deposition gradient of the product can occur throughout the canopy, resulting in difficulties for controlling stink bugs that are in the middle and lower thirds of plants. This study aimed at evaluating the systemicity of thiamethoxam insecticide in different soybean phenological stages, using brown stink bugs as bioindicators of the pesticide efficacy. The study combined product application sites (lower, middle and upper third) and stink bugs infestation areas at five soybean phenological stages (R2, R3, R4, R5.2 and R6). For the R2 and R5.2 stages, plants presented acropetal translocation of the product, being the effect more evident in the R2 stage. For the R3, R4 and R6 stages, the product translocation was not sufficient for controlling the stink bugs. In all stages, for treatments with direct exposure (same infestation and spraying place), stink bugs were satisfactorily controlled.

A contaminação do solo com cobre tem se tornado comum em regiões de mineração e agrícolas pelo uso de fungicidas a base de cobre e aplicação de dejeto líquido de suíno ao solo, causando redução na produtividade das plantas. O trabalho objetivou determinar o efeito de doses de cobre no crescimento e qualidade de mudas de Barbatimão (Stryphnodendron polyphyllum Mart.) e Cássia (Cassia multijuga Rich.). O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado num fatorial (2 x 4), sendo as duas espécies florestais, e quatro doses de cobre: 0; 150; 300 e 450 mg kg-1, com 10 repetições. Avaliou-se a altura de planta, diâmetro do colo, peso da matéria seca radicular e da parte aérea, comprimento e área superficial específica radicular, e os índices de qualidade de mudas: relação entre altura da parte aérea e diâmetro do coleto; altura da parte aérea e peso da matéria seca da parte aérea e o Índice de Qualidade de Dickson. Os resultados demonstram que as doses de cobre testadas não influenciam a qualidade de mudas da Cássia enquanto o Barbatimão mantém a qualidade de mudas até 300 mg kg-1 de cobre adicionado ao solo. O Barbatimão apresenta maior crescimento e qualidade de mudas que a Cássia em solo contaminado com cobre.

Soil contamination with copper has become common in the mining and agricultural regions by the use of copper-based-fungicide and application of liquid swine slurry to the soil, causing a reduction in plant productivity. Therefore, a study was undertaken to determine the effect of copper doses in growth and quality of Barbatimão (Stryphnodendron polyphyllum Mart.) and Cassia (Cassia multijugaRich.) seedlings. The experimental design was completely randomized in a factorial (2 x 4) being the two forest species and four doses of copper: 0, 150, 300 and 450 mg kg-1, with 10 repetitions. It was evaluated plant height, stem diameter, dry weight of shoot and root length and specific root surface area, and the quality indexes of seedlings: relationship between shoot height and diameter of the collar; height and shoot dry weight of shoots and Dickson Quality Index. The results revealed that the copper doses tested does not change the quality of seedlings of Cassia and that Barbatimão maintains the quality of seedlings up to 300 mg kg-1 of copper added to soil. Barbatimão presents greater growth and quality than Cassia seedlings in soil contaminated with copper.
