RESUMO O conhecimento acerca das propriedades mecânicas dos materiais é de grande importância para aplicações de engenharia. O estudo dessas propriedades é necessário para o desenvolvimento de novos equipamentos ou produtos e uma importante propriedade é a resistência à fadiga. O objetivo deste trabalho é apresentar o projeto e construção de uma máquina para ensaio de fadiga por flexão. O projeto da máquina foi dividido em subconjuntos distintos denominados estrutural, dinâmico e de controle e coleta de dados, sendo cada subconjunto formado por peças e acessórios necessários para a realização dos ensaios de fadiga. Neste contexto, merece destaque a concepção de um novo sistema que permite a variação da tensão aplicada durante o ensaio, o qual é mais simples e não menos eficiente em comparação àqueles tradicionalmente utilizados em máquinas comerciais do mesmo porte. Ensaios preliminares foram realizados utilizando corpos de prova de aço ABNT 1020 no estado recozido e os resultados indicaram que a máquina apresenta desempenho satisfatório, pois foi possível a realização dos testes, o registro dos resultados e a consequente obtenção de dados confiáveis para elaboração da curva de Wöhler.

ASBTRACT Knowledge regarding properties of materials is of utmost importance for engineering applications. The study of these properties is crucial for the development of new equipment or products and an important property is the fatigue resistance of materials. The goal of this work is to design and build a fatigue machine for bending tests. Machine design has been split in different groups, namely structural, dynamic and control and data acquisition, each of them consisting of parts and accessories required to perform fatigue tests. A novel system for variation of the applied stress was developed, which is simpler and as effective as those traditionally used in commercial machines. Validation tests were performed using annealed AISI 1020 steel specimens and indicated that the machine presents satisfactory performance, thus allowing the generation of reliable data for plotting Wöhler curve.

ABSTRACT This study covers the evaluation of the structure and the capacity in adsorbing orthophosphate ions of kaolinites collected from sampling sites in Manaus (Brazil). The kaolinites were obtained using physical fractioning (sieving/siphoning) techniques and chemical treatment with HCl, H2SO4, H2O2 and KCl. The investigation of the kaolinite lattices involved the Hinckley and Plançon indexes determined from X-ray diffraction data, Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and Mössbauer spectroscopy. The absorption capacity of orthophosphate ions was calculated by Freundlich and Langergren isotherms. A transitional state was observed in the crystallographic structure from kaolinites because of the isomorphic substitution of Al3+ by Fe3+. This isomorphic substitution occurs accompanied by the optical pleochroism behavior, but it also reduces the mean particle sizes and increases the number of structural defects and magnetic properties of these kaolinites. Mössbauer spectroscopy showed that the substituting Fe3+ preferentially occupies octahedral sites. In the kaolinite lattices there are different octahedral sites of Al bounded by cis-OH-Fe3+ and trans-OH-Fe3+ octahedral sites. The kaolinite from the Kao1 sample has a higher number of cis-OH-Fe3+ from octahedral sites and is able to adsorb higher contents of orthophosphate ions than those from samples Kao2 and Kao3.

Neste trabalho foi examinada a composição química das águas dos afluentes da margem direita do rio Madeira que drenam as rochas do Escudo Brasileiro. O estudo foi realizado no município de Apuí no sudeste do estado do Amazonas, Brasil. Foram analisados pH, condutividade, as concentrações de SiO2 e de íons dissolvidos (Na+, K+, Mg2+, Ca2+, HCO3-, Cl-, NO3- e SO4(2-)) em quatro épocas do ano segundo o índice pluviométrico: chuvosa, transição para a estiagem, estiagem e transição para a chuvosa. As águas são diluídas, mais concentradas em HCO3- e SiO2 e representam o típico ambiente de intensa lixiviação que afeta as rochas na Amazônia. Apesar da química das águas terem influência da sazonalidade, foram identificadas variações em função da litologia. As taxas de exportação de cátions e de erosão química das rochas são baixas e refletem a estabilidade tectônica da região e o manto intempérico que dificulta a interação da água com o substrato rochoso.

This work examined the chemical composition of waters from tributaries of the right bank of the Madeira River which drain silicaterocks of the Brazilian Craton. The study was conducted at the municipalityof Apui, in the southeastern of the Amazonas State, Brazil. There were analyzed pH, conductivity, SiO2 and dissolved ions (Na+, K+, Mg2+ e Ca2+, HCO3-, Cl-, NO3- and SO4(2-)) in the four pluviometric seasons of the Amazon region: rainy, transition to the dry, dry and transition to the rainy. The waters are diluted, have high HCO3-and SiO2 concentration and represent the typical environment of intense leaching that affects the rocks in the Amazon. Although the chemical composition reveals seasonal influences, it was identified variation due to lithological composition. The rate of exportation of cations and the chemical erosion are low in consequence of the tectonic stability of the region and the weathering mantle, which hinders the interaction of water with the bedrock.
