Large hiatal hernias (LHH) besides being more prevalent in the elderly, have different clinical presentation: fewer reflux, more mechanical symptoms and a greater possibility of acute, life-threatening complications such as gastric volvulus, ischemia and visceral mediastinal perforation. Thus, surgical indications are distinct from gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD-related), sliding hiatal hernias. Heartburn tends to be less intense, while symptoms of chest pain, cough, discomfort, and tiredness are reported more frequently. Complaints of vomiting and dysphagia may suggest the presence of associated gastric volvulus. Signs of iron deficiency and anemia are found. Surgical indication is still controversial and was previously based on high mortality reported in emergency surgeries for gastric volvulus. Postoperative mortality is especially related to three factors: body mass index (BMI above 35), age over 70 years and presence of comorbidity. Minimally invasive elective surgery should be offered to symptomatic individuals with good or reasonable performance status, regardless of age group. In asymptomatic and oligosymptomatic patients, besides obviously identifying the patient's desire, case-by-case analysis of surgical risk factors such as age, obesity and comorbidities, should be taken under consideration. One should also pay attention to situations with greater technical difficulty and risks of acute migration due to increased abdominal pressure (abdominoplasty, manual workers, spastic diseases). Technical alternatives such as partial fundoplication and anterior gastropexy can be considered. We emphasize the importance of performing surgical procedures in cases of LHH in high-volume centers, with experienced surgeons.

As grandes hérnias de hiato (HHG), além de serem mais prevalentes em idosos, têm apresentação clínica diferente: menos refluxo, mais sintomas mecânicos e maior possibilidade de complicações agudas e potencialmente fatais, como vólvulo gástrico, isquemia e perfuração mediastinal visceral. Assim, as indicações cirúrgicas são distintas das hérnias de hiato por deslizamento, relacionadas à doença do refluxo gastroesofágico (DRGE). A azia tende a ser menos intensa, enquanto os sintomas de dor no peito, tosse, desconforto e cansaço são relatados com maior frequência. Queixas de vômitos e disfagia podem sugerir a presença de volvo gástrico associado. São encontrados sinais de deficiência de ferro e anemia. A indicação cirúrgica ainda é controversa e foi anteriormente baseada na alta mortalidade relatada em cirurgias de emergência para volvo gástrico. A mortalidade pós-operatória está especialmente relacionada a três fatores: índice de massa corporal (IMC acima de 35), idade superior a 70 anos e presença de comorbidades. A cirurgia eletiva minimamente invasiva deve ser oferecida a indivíduos sintomáticos, com desempenho bom ou razoável, independentemente da faixa etária. Em pacientes assintomáticos e oligossintomáticos, além de obviamente identificar o desejo do paciente, deve-se levar em consideração a análise caso a caso dos fatores de risco cirúrgico, como idade, obesidade e comorbidades. Deve-se atentar também para situações de maior dificuldade técnica e riscos de migração aguda por aumento da pressão abdominal (abdominoplastia, trabalhos manuais, doenças espásticas). Alternativas técnicas como fundoplicatura parcial e gastropexia anterior podem ser consideradas. Ressaltamos a importância da realização de procedimentos cirúrgicos nos casos de GHH em centros de grande volume, com cirurgiões experientes.

Abstract Objective To evaluate the impact of the race (Black versus non-Black) on maternal and perinatal outcomes of pregnant women with COVID-19 in Brazil. Methods This is a subanalysis of REBRACO, a Brazilian multicenter cohort study designed to evaluate the impact of COVID-19 on pregnant women. From February2020 until February 2021, 15 maternity hospitals in Brazil collected data on women with respiratory symptoms. We selected all women with a positive test for COVID-19; then, we divided them into two groups: Black and non-Black women. Finally, we compared, between groups, sociodemographic, maternal, and perinatal outcomes. We obtained the frequency of events in each group and compared them using X2 test; p-values < 0.05 were considered significant. We also estimated the odds ratio (OR) and confidence intervals (CI). Results 729 symptomatic women were included in the study; of those, 285 were positive for COVID-19, 120 (42.1%) were Black, and 165 (57.9%) were non-Black. Black women had worse education (p = 0.037). The timing of access to the health system was similar between both groups, with 26.3% being included with seven or more days of symptoms. Severe acute respiratory syndrome (OR 2.22 CI 1.17–4.21), intensive care unit admission (OR 2.00 CI 1.07–3.74), and desaturation at admission (OR 3.72 CI 1.41–9.84) were more likely to occur among Black women. Maternal death was higher among Black women (7.8% vs. 2.6%, p = 0.048). Perinatal outcomes were similar between both groups. Conclusion Brazilian Black women were more likely to die due to the consequences of COVID-19.

Resumo Objetivo Avaliar o impacto da raça (negra versus não negra) nos desfechos maternos e perinatais de gestantes com COVID-19 no Brasil. Métodos Esta é uma subanálise da REBRACO, um estudo de coorte multicêntrico brasileiro desenhado para avaliar o impacto da COVID-19 em mulheres grávidas. De fevereiro de 2020 a fevereiro de 2021, 15 maternidades do Brasil coletaram dados de mulheres com sintomas respiratórios. Selecionamos todas as mulheres com teste positivo para COVID-19; em seguida, as dividimos em dois grupos: mulheres negras e não negras. Finalmente, comparamos, entre os grupos, os resultados sociodemográficos, maternos e perinatais. Obtivemos a frequência dos eventos em cada grupo e comparamos usando o teste X2; Valores de p <0,05 foram considerados significativos. Também estimamos o odds ratio (OR) e os intervalos de confiança (IC). Resultados 729 mulheres sintomáticas foram incluídas no estudo; desses, 285 foram positivos para COVID-19, 120 (42,1%) eram negros e 165 (57,9%) não eram negros. As mulheres negras apresentaram pior escolaridade (p = 0,037). O tempo de acesso ao sistema de saúde foi semelhante entre os dois grupos, com 26,3% incluídos com sete ou mais dias de sintomas. Síndrome respiratória aguda grave (OR 2,22 CI 1,17–4,21), admissão em unidade de terapia intensiva (OR 2,00 CI 1,07–3,74) e dessaturação na admissão (OR 3,72 CI 1,41–9,84) foram mais prováveis de ocorrer entre mulheres negras. A mortalidade materna foi maior entre as negras (7,8% vs. 2,6%, p = 0,048). Os resultados perinatais foram semelhantes entre os dois grupos. Conclusão Mulheres negras brasileiras tiveram maior probabilidade de morrer devido às consequências da COVID-19.

Abstract Objective The objective of this work is to compare blood loss during primary knee arthroplasty with the use of intravenous and intraarticular (IV + IA) tranexamic acid versus intraarticular (IA) tranexamic acid alone. Methods This is a randomized, double-blind clinical trial. Patients with indication for primary total knee arthroplasty were recruited in a specialized clinic, where they were operated by the same surgeon, always using the same surgical technique. Thirty patients were allocated in the IV + IA tranexamic acid group and 30 patients in the IA tranexamic acid group, according to randomization. Blood loss was compared through hemoglobin, hematocrit, drain volume, and blood loss estimation (Gross and Nadler calculus). Results After collection, data from 40 patients were analyzed, 22 in the IA group and 18 in the IV +IA group. There were 20 losses due to collection error. Between groups IA and IV + IA, there were no significant differences in 24 hours between hemoglobin levels (10.56 vs. 10.65 g/dL; F1.39 = 0.63, p =0.429), erythrocyte (3.63 vs. 3.73 million/mm³; F1.39 = 0.90, p = 0.346); hematocrit (32.14 vs. 32.60%; F1.39 = 1.39, p = 0.240); drainage volume (197.0 vs. 173.6 mL; F1.39 = 3.38 p = 0.069); and estimated blood loss (1,002.5 vs. 980.1; F1.39 =0.09, p = 0.770). The same occurred in comparisons conducted after 48 hours postoperatively. Time was a significant factor for the change of all outcome variables. However, the treatment did not modify the effect of time on these outcomes. No individual presented any thromboembolic event during the work period. Conclusions The use of IV + IA tranexamic acid showed no advantage in reducing blood loss when compared to the use of IA tranexamic acid alone in primary knee arthroplasties. This technique proved to be safe, since no thromboembolic event occurred during the development of the work.

Resumo Objetivo O objetivo desse trabalho é comparar a perda sanguínea durante a artroplastia primária de joelho, com a utilização do ácido tranexâmico endovenoso e intra-articular (EV + IA) versus intra-articular (IA) isolado. Métodos Trata-se de um ensaio clínico randomizado, duplo cego. Pacientes com indicação de artroplastia total primária de joelho foram captados em clínica especializada, onde foram operados pelo mesmo cirurgião, utilizando sempre a mesma técnica cirúrgica. Trinta pacientes foram alocados no grupo ácido tranexâmico EV + IA e 30 pacientes, no grupo IA, conforme randomização. Foi comparada a perda sanguínea através dos níveis de hemoglobina, hematócrito, volume do dreno e estimativa da perda sanguínea (EBL) (cálculo de Gross e Nadler). Resultados Após a coleta, foram analisados os dados de 40 pacientes, sendo 22 do grupo IA isolado e 18 do grupo EV + IA. Ocorreram 20 perdas por erro de coleta. Entre os grupos IA e EV + IA, não ocorreram diferenças significativas em 24 horas entre os níveis de hemoglobina (10,56 vs. 10,65 g/dL; F1,39 =0,63, p = 0,429), eritrócito (3,63 vs. 3,73 milhões/mm3; F1,39 = 0,90, p =0,346), hematócrito (32,14 vs. 32,60%; F1,39 = 1,39; p=0,240), volume de dreno (197,0 vs. 173,6 mL; F1,39 = 3,38; p =0,069) e estimativa de perda sanguínea (EBL) (1.002,5 vs. 980,1; F1,39 = 0,09; p =0,770). O mesmo ocorreu nas comparações realizadas 48 horas pós-operatório. O tempo foi fator significativo para a mudança de todas as variáveis de desfecho. Porém, o tratamento não modificou o efeito do tempo nesses desfechos. Nenhum indivíduo apresentou qualquer evento tromboembólico durante o período do trabalho. Conclusões O uso do ácido tranexâmico EV + IA não demonstrou vantagem em redução de perda sanguínea quando comparado ao uso de ácido tranexâmico IA isolado nas artroplastias primárias de joelho. Esta técnica demonstrou-se segura, visto que nenhum evento trombo-embólico ocorreu durante o desenvolvimento do trabalho.

ABSTRACT Background: Cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) requiring hospitalization continue to appear in vulnerable populations, highlighting the importance of novel treatments. The hyperinflammatory response underlies the severity of the disease, and targeting this pathway may be useful. Herein, we tested whether immunomodulation focusing on interleukin (IL)-6, IL-17, and IL-2, could improve the clinical outcomes of patients admitted with COVID-19. Methods: This multicenter, open-label, prospective, randomized controlled trial was conducted in Brazil. Sixty hospitalized patients with moderate-to-critical COVID-19 received in addition to standard of care (SOC): IL-17 inhibitor (ixekizumab 80 mg SC/week) 1 dose every 4 weeks; low-dose IL-2 (1.5 million IU per day) for 7 days or until discharge; or indirect IL-6 inhibitor (colchicine) orally (0.5 mg) every 8 hours for 3 days, followed by 4 weeks at 0.5 mg 2x/day; or SOC alone. The primary outcome was accessed in the “per protocol” population as the proportion of patients with clinical improvement, defined as a decrease greater or equal to two points on the World Health Organization’s (WHO) seven-category ordinal scale by day 28. Results: All treatments were safe, and the efficacy outcomes did not differ significantly from those of SOC. Interestingly, in the colchicine group, all participants had an improvement of greater or equal to two points on the WHO seven-category ordinal scale and no deaths or patient deterioration were observed. Conclusions: Ixekizumab, colchicine, and IL-2 were demonstrated to be safe but ineffective for COVID-19 treatment. These results must be interpreted cautiously because of the limited sample size.

ABSTRACT Turbulent flow is responsible for a significant portion of damages and failures in dams. This paper sought to introduce novel approaches to the estimation of typical parameters used in the design of stilling basins. The standard deviations of pressure samples of 24 hydraulic jumps were analysed throughout the stilling basin longitudinal centreline, and the positions of maximum pressure fluctuation were identified. Next, mean and extreme pressures occurring at this position were calculated. Finally, these parameters were plotted against the inflow Froude number and curves were adjusted to the data. The position where maximum turbulence of undular, weak and oscillating jumps occurs varies according to the Froude number. Steady and strong jumps are more likely to induce negative pressures on the stilling basin. The findings of this paper broaden the knowledge on which regions of the stilling basin must receive special attention, and on how to minimize the chances of damages.

RESUMO O escoamento turbulento é responsável por diversos danos e falhas nas barragens. Neste artigo, introduz-se uma abordagem para estimar parâmetros característicos do dimensionamento de bacias de dissipação. Os desvios padrão das amostras de pressão de 24 ressaltos hidráulicos foram analisados em todo o eixo longitudinal da bacia de dissipação, e as posições de flutuação de pressão máxima foram identificadas. Em seguida, foram calculadas as pressões médias e extremas que ocorrem nesta posição. Finalmente, estes parâmetros foram plotados em relação ao número de Froude incidente e foram ajustadas curvas aos dados. A posição onde ocorre a máxima turbulência de ressaltos ondulados, fracos e oscilantes varia de acordo com o número de Froude. Ressaltos firmes e fortes são mais propensos a gerarem pressões negativas na bacia de dissipação. As conclusões ampliam o conhecimento sobre quais regiões da bacia de dissipação devem receber atenção especial e como minimizar as chances de danos.

Abstract As part of an ongoing treatment of species of the Brevantherum clade of Solanum, a new species from the Atlantic Forest of Brazil was discovered and is described here. Solanum helix Giacomin & Stehmann sp. nov. is a species well represented in herbaria that has been overlooked for almost two centuries. It has a unique expanded non-inflated fruiting calyx that resembles a propeller and that is not found in any unarmed species of Solanum. This discovery highlights the importance of continued herbarium and field work in hyperdiverse ecosystems, such as the Atlantic Forest in South America. Taxonomic affinities are discussed and images, as well as mapped distribution, are given. A key to closely related species for NE Brazil is also provided.

Environmental pollution by contaminants of emerging concern, among these various pesticides, has been a concern of environmentalists and scientists around the world. Thus, efforts to mitigate the impacts of these substances have been carried out, and the use of advanced oxidation processes, such as photocatalysis, is an alternative. This work sought to synthesize a composite photocatalyst based on iron oxides and titanium dioxide to assess its applicability in degrading the herbicide bentazon (BTZ) by a lamp that simulates the solar spectrum (visible, ultraviolet A and ultraviolet B) and sunlight. Photocatalytic degradation reached 51% in 120 min with a rate constant k = 0.0058 min-1 when a UV-Vis lamp of 300 W was used. The applicability was demonstrated under sunlight radiation, reaching 38% degradation of a bentazon solution (4.1 × 10-4 mol L-1) after 320 min. TiO2 and Fe2O3 were synthesized similarly but showed no degradation under the same conditions. Thus, Fe2O3-TiO2 is an inexpensive and non-toxic material capable of efficiently conducting the photocatalytic degradation of organic compounds, such as the bentazon herbicide.

Abstract The Santos Basin (SB) is the main petroliferous basin in the Brazilian continental margin and one of the most studied marine areas in Brazil. However, historical data suggest that new efforts should be carried out to acquire quantitative biological data, especially in the deep sea, to establish the baseline of essential ocean variables in different ecosystems for future monitoring programs. The Brazilian energy company Petrobras planned and executed 24 oceanographic cruises over a period of 2 years to assess the benthic (SANSED cruise) and pelagic (SANAGU cruise) systems of the SB (356 days at sea in 2019 and 2021/2022). These efforts were part of the Santos Project, which comprised a comprehensive environmental study aimed at investigating benthic and pelagic variables to characterize ecology, biogeochemistry, thermohaline properties of water masses, and ocean circulation patterns, geomorphology, and sedimentology, as well as organic and inorganic chemistry. Here we present the detailed sampling designs and the field methods employed on board, during the SB scientific cruises. All sampling protocols were based on standardized approaches. For the benthos analyses, triplicate sediment samples were performed using a GOMEX-type box corer (0.25 m²) or a large modified Van Veen grab (0.75 m²) at 100 stations ranging from 25 to 2400 m depth. At each station, 25 geochemical and physico-chemical parameters were analyzed in addition to micro-, meio-, and macrofauna and living foraminifera samples. For the pelagic system, 60 stations were selected to investigate the plankton community, ranging in size from pico- to macroplankton, through vertical, horizontal, and oblique net hauls (20, 200, and 500 μm mesh size), as well as 25 biogeochemical parameters collected with an aid of a CTD-rosette sampler. Part of this scientific information also serves the Regional Environmental Characterization Project (PCR-BS) in support of Petrobras’ Santos Basin drilling licensing process led by the Brazilian Environmental Agency – IBAMA. This project contributes to the sustainable development of the SB, in line with the guidelines of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.

Resumo Os técnicos em citopatologia são fundamentais para o rastreamento do câncer de colo do útero, porém existem lacunas na sua formação. Nesta revisão de literatura, com abordagem qualitativa, realizada na Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde e na SciELO, sem recorte temporal, descrevemos o histórico das políticas públicas de combate ao câncer de colo de útero, relacionando-o à história da educação profissional técnica em citopatologia, analisando as conexões entre tais sequências de eventos. Numa perspectiva histórica, a educação profissional em anatomia patológica se deu principalmente pela formação em serviço, porém o campo da formação técnica em citopatologia destoa desse modelo. Esforços diversos para estruturar os currículos na área e reduzir as discrepâncias nessa formação foram realizados. Contudo, disputas entre interesses político-econômicos, marcando a divisão técnica do trabalho no país, somadas a embates corporativos no trabalho em citopatologia, e o descompasso entre ações de educação e de rastreamento impediram a materialização efetiva desses esforços. A demanda pela incorporação de novas tecnologias acentua ainda mais a fragilidade na formação da categoria. Resumen Los técnicos en citopatología son fundamentales para el rastreo del cáncer de cuello uterino, pero existen lagunas en su formación. En esta revisión bibliográfica, con abordaje cualitativo, realizada en la Biblioteca Virtual en Salud y en SciELO, sin marco temporal, se describe la historia de las políticas públicas de combate al cáncer de cuello uterino, relacionándola con la historia de la formación técnico-profesional en citopatología, analizando las conexiones entre tales secuencias de eventos. Desde una perspectiva histórica, la formación profesional en anatomía patológica se basó principalmente en la formación en servicio, pero el campo de la formación técnica en citopatología difiere de este modelo. Se han hecho varios esfuerzos para estructurar los planes de estudio en el área y reducir las discrepancias en esta formación. Sin embargo, las disputas entre intereses políticos y económicos, que marcan la división técnica del trabajo en el país, sumadas a los enfrentamientos empresariales en el trabajo de citopatología, y la discrepancia entre las acciones de educación y de rastreo impidieron la materialización efectiva de estos esfuerzos. La demanda por la incorporación de nuevas tecnologías acentúa aún más la fragilidad en la formación de la categoría. Abstract Cytopathology technicians are fundamental for cervical cancer screening, but there are gaps in their training. In this literature review, with a qualitative approach, carried out in the Virtual Health Library and in SciELO, without temporal clipping, we describe the history of public policies to combat cervical cancer, relating it to the history of technical professional education in cytopathology, analyzing the connections between such sequences of events. In a historical perspective, professional education in pathological anatomy was mainly through in-service training, but the field of technical training in cytopathology differs from this model. Various efforts have been made to structure curricula in the area and reduce discrepancies in this training. However, disputes between political and economic interests, marking the technical division of labor in the country, added to corporate clashes in the work on cytopathology, and the mismatch between education and screening actions prevented the effective materialization of these efforts. The demand for the incorporation of new technologies further accentuates the fragility in the formation of the category. ABSTRACT Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the oral health condition and dental treatments performed in patients in pre-allogeneic HCT. Method: The records of patients treated during 2018 at a Brazilian HCT service were reviewed. The following oral health data were obtained: 1. Decayed, missing and filled teeth / correlated index for primary dentition (DMFT/dmft); 2. Quality of oral hygiene and 3. Dental pathologies: 3.1 Periodontal infectious focus, 3.2 Endodontic infectious focus and 3.3 Carie incidence. All dental procedures performed were surveyed. Results: Thirty-three patients were included, with a mean age of 28.42 (±16.37), 20 male (60%) and 13 female. The average DMFT/dmft found in this study was 10.24 (± 8.37), similar to the index found in the population in southeastern Brazil. The younger study population presented a DMFT/dmft considered high, when compared to the general population. A total of 27.2% of the patients had active caries lesions, 33.3%, foci of periodontal infection, 15.1%, endodontic infectious focus and 40%, poor oral hygiene. Almost half of the patients (48.4%) had to undergo dental intervention, 24.2% needing periodontal scaling, 21.2%, fillings and 12.1%, tooth extractions. Conclusion: We conclude that the studied population had an important incidence of dental pathologies and infectious conditions that could complicate throughout HCT, especially in younger patients, therefore presenting a high demand for dental treatment in the pre-HCT. Studies that assess the impact of dental conditioning on the outcomes of HCT with an emphasis on dental infectious complications, days of hospitalization and survival are necessary.”

RESUMO O cultivo de rabanete com rúcula em sistemas consorciados em faixas está crescendo em ambientes semiáridos. O grande desafio tem sido avaliar se há eficiência agroeconômica no consórcio quando fertilizado com biomassa vegetal de espécies espontâneas do bioma Caatinga. Assim, o objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a viabilidade produtiva e econômica do consórcio de rabanete e rúcula fertilizado com quantidades eqüitativas de biomassa de Merremia aegyptia e Calotropis procera do bioma Caatinga em diferentes densidades populacionais de rúcula em dois anos de cultivo. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi em blocos ao acaso, com os tratamentos arranjados em esquema fatorial 4x4, com quatro repetições. O primeiro fator foi constituído por quatro quantidades eqüitativas de biomassa de M. aegyptia e C. procera (20, 35, 50 e 65 t ha-1 em base seca), e o segundo fator pelas densidades populacionais de plantas de rúcula [40, 60, 80 e 100% da densidade recomendada em cultivo solteiro (DRCS)? em consórcio com 100% da densidade de rabanete recomendada em cultivo solteiro. As maiores vantagens agroeconômicas do consórcio de rabanete e rúcula foram obtidas com um coeficiente equivalente de terra (LEC) e razão monetária equivalente (MER) de 0,55 e 1,35, respectivamente, nas quantidades de biomassa de M. aegyptia e C. procera de 54,75 e 54,55 t ha-1 adicionada ao solo. A densidade populacional de rúcula de 100% da DRCS proporcionou a maior eficiência agroeconômica do sistema consorciado de rabanete com rúcula com LEC e MER de 0,58 e 1,33, respectivamente. A utilização de biomassa de M. aegyptia e C. procera do bioma Caatinga, mostrou-se uma tecnologia viável para produtores que praticam o cultivo de rabanete e rúcula em sistemas consorciados em ambiente semiárido. A preocupação do agricultor com a preservação dos recursos naturais, bem como com a busca por uma melhor qualidade de vida, contorna as possíveis limitações que o meio ambiente pode oferecer em uma determinada cultura consorciada. A opção pelo sistema consorciado pode proporcionar aos produtores alternativas viáveis para otimizar a área plantada, além de maior produtividade e estabilidade econômica das atividades na propriedade rural.

ABSTRACT The cultivation of radish with arugula in strip-intercropped systems is growing in semi-arid environments. The great challenge has been to assess whether there is agro-economic efficiency in the intercrops when fertilized with plant biomass of spontaneous species from the Caatinga biome. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the productive and economic viability of radish and arugula strip-intercrops fertilized with Merremia aegyptia and Calotropis procera biomass equitable amounts from the Caatinga biome at different population densities of arugula at two cropping years. The experimental design used was randomized blocks, with the treatments arranged in a 4x4 factorial scheme, with four replicates. The first factor was constituted by four biomass equitable amounts of M. aegyptia and C. procera (20, 35, 50 and 65 t ha-1 on a dry basis), and the second factor by the population densities of arugula plants [40, 60, 80 and 100% of the recommended density for single crop (RDSC)] intercropped with 100% of the radish RDSC. The highest agro-economic advantages of radish and arugula intercropping were obtained for a land equivalent coefficient (LEC) and monetary equivalent ratio (MER) of 0.55 and 1.35, respectively, for M. aegyptia and C. procera biomass amounts of 54.75 and 54.55 t ha-1 added to the soil. The arugula population density of 100% of the RDSC provided the greatest agro-economic efficiency of the intercropped system of radish with arugula with LEC and MER of 0.58 and 1.33, respectively. The use of M. aegyptia and C. procera biomass from the Caatinga biome, proved to be a viable technology for producers who practice the cultivation of radish and arugula in intercropped systems in a semi-arid environment. The concern of the farmer regarding the preservation of natural resources, as well as with the search for a better quality of life, circumvents the possible limitations that the environment may offer in a given intercropping crop. The option by intercropping system can provide to producers viable alternatives to optimize the planted area, in addition to greater productivity and economic stability of activities on the rural property.

Abstract Background Physical Fitness Tests (PFTs) are part of military routines and are usually administered to applicants for the Brazilian corps member, including the civil police. Objective To identify in the literature, scientific articles aimed at assessing physical fitness of police and military personnel in Brazil, using PFTs. Methods This was a systematic review, using the PRISMA systematization, using the following search keywords "police", "military", "physical fitness test" and " PFT", in English and Portuguese. The databases used were ScienceDirect, PubMed, BVS (Lilacs) and Scielo. Only original works performed with police and military personnel in Brazil were selected, through the application of inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results After the screening process, 11 articles were selected from a total of 1,487. Conclusions The data collected from the selected articles suggest that older age is related to a decrease in physical fitness, and better performance in the tests is related to a lower risk of comorbidities. Although high-intensity training improves physical fitness and anthropometric data, it is associated with injury rates; physically active lifestyle is associated with better flexibility.

Resumo Este trabalho tem como objetivo apresentar uma metodologia para elaboração de um mapa de deformação em um corpo de prova de concreto de cimento Portland de modo a prever fraturas provocadas por tensão de compressão axial, utilizando técnica de Correlação Digital de Imagem - CID 2D. Para alcançar este objetivo, foram analisados 5 corpos de prova de concreto com resistência à compressão esperada aos 28 dias fck de 40 MPa que foram ensaiados por meio da norma da ABNT NBR 5739/2018 - ensaio de compressão de corpos de prova cilíndricos de concreto. Durante o ensaio foram adquiridas as imagens digitais necessárias no arranjo CID-2D. Posteriormente essas imagens foram processadas e os resultados interpretados estatisticamente. De acordo com o resultado de correlação de imagens obtido, constatou-se que 67% dos corpos de prova possuíam regiões acumuladoras de tensão que indicaram antecipadamente o local da ruptura, o que permitiu a elaboração de um mapa de previsão de fratura. Os resultados obtidos na pesquisa mostraram que a metodologia utilizada por meio do arranjo CID-2D conseguiu prever o local onde houve ruptura no corpo de prova.

Abstract This work aims to present a methodology for the elaboration of a deformation map in a Portland cement concrete specimen to predict fractures caused by axial compression stresses, using the technique of Digital Image Correlation - DIC 2D. For this purpose, 5 concrete specimens with compressive strength expected at 28 days fck of 40 MPa were analyzed, which were tested in the ABNT NBR 5739/2018 standard - compression test of cylindrical concrete specimens. During the test, the necessary digital images were acquired in the DIC-2D array. These images were subsequently processed, and the results interpreted statistically. According to the result of the correlation of images obtained, it was found that 67% of the specimens had regions of accumulation of stresses that indicated in advance the location of the rupture, which enabled the development of a fracture prediction map. The results obtained in the research showed that the methodology used by means of the DIC-2D arrangement was able to predict the place where the rupture in the specimens occurred.

ABSTRACT. One of the great challenges of the beet and cowpea cultivation in crop association is to maintain their productivity as that of their sole counterparts in semi-arid environment. In this context, the objective of this work is to assess whether there is bio-agroeconomic return in associations of beet-cowpea by the optimization of population densities and spatial arrangements of the component crops. Experiments were performed in randomised complete block designs with treatments arranged in a 4 × 3 factorial scheme, with four replications. The first factor was the population densities of cowpea (100, 80, 60, and 40% of the recommended population in single crop - RPSC) in association with beet, and the second factor was the spatial arrangements (2:2, 3:3, and 4:4), formed by beet (B) rows alternating with cowpea (C) rows. The competition and agronomic indices evaluated were aggressiveness, competitive ratio, land equivalent ratio, actual yield loss, intercropping advantage and the productive efficiency index. The economic indicators evaluated were gross income, net income, rate of return and profit margin. High agro-economic efficiency can be obtained in the cultivation of beet and cowpea intercropping when well-managing the factors of production, population densities and spatial arrangement of the component crops. The greatest agro-economic return of the cowpea and beet intercropping was obtained in the population densities of 40 and 100% of RPSC for cowpea and beet, respectively. The 2:2 spatial arrangement between beet and cowpea crops was the one with the best productive performance and higher indicators of economic return. The cowpea was the dominant crop while the beet was dominated.
