Resumo A presente investigação objetiva analisar a utilização de materiais pozolânicos e resíduos de demolição de concreto nas propriedades mecânicas e de durabilidade em concretos com misturas binárias. Foram produzidas dez formulações, distinguindo-as em diferentes traços com o uso de diferentes cimentos Portland, diferentes pozolanas e agregados graúdos da demolição de concretos, a fim de verificar suas particularidades através dos ensaios de resistência à compressão axial, módulo de elasticidade longitudinal e penetração de íons cloreto por imersão. As substituições de materiais se deram em 15 e 30% do agregado graúdo natural por resíduos de demolição de concreto e em substituições de 25% do aglomerante por cinza de casca de arroz e cinza volante para as misturas binárias. Os resultados evidenciaram que nos testes de resistências à compressão axial e módulo de elasticidade dos concretos, os valores finais foram afetados pelo uso dos resíduos de demolição, todavia balanceados com o uso dos materiais cimentícios suplementares. Quanto ao ensaio de durabilidade, verificou-se que os menores coeficientes ocorreram nos traços com a utilização do CP V-ARI, juntamente com as pozolanas, nas misturas com substituições parciais do agregado natural por agregado reciclado em 15%. Pôde-se concluir, contudo, a viabilidade da utilização de agregados reciclados em concretos, porém condicionados com o uso concomitante de materiais pozolânicos.

Abstract The objective of this study is to analyse the use of binary mixtures of pozzolanic materials and concrete demolition waste in concrete mixtures, especially the resulting mechanical properties and durability. A total of ten concrete formulations were produced distinguishing them in different types using different Portland cements, different artificial pozzolans and coarse aggregates from concrete demolition. The particular properties of each formulation were verified by testing the axial compressive strength, longitudinal modulus of elasticity and penetration of chloride under immersion. Substitutions were of 15% w.t. and 30% w.t. natural coarse aggregate substituted with concrete demolition waste and, in the case of binary mixtures, additional 25% w.t. of the binder agglomerate substituted with rice husk ash or fly ash. Results showed that the final strength to axial compression and modulus of elasticity of concrete mixtures were negatively affected by utilising demolition waste, but this effect was balanced by adding supplementary cementitious materials. Regarding the durability test, it was found that the lowest coefficients occurred in the mixtures using CP V-ARI, together with artificial pozzolans, in mixtures with 15% w.t. substitution of natural aggregate with recycled aggregate. It was concluded that using recycled aggregates in concrete is viable but conditioned to the concomitant use of pozzolanic materials.

Resumo Espécies invasoras têm ocasionado a perda de biodiversidade no mundo todo por ocuparem o lugar de nativas. O presente estudo objetivou avaliar a regeneração natural ao longo do tempo em um fragmento florestal invadido por Ligustrum lucidum W.T. Aiton e Ligustrum sinense Lour. no sul do Brasil, a fim de quantificar essa invasão. Para isso, foram alocadas cinco transecções em um fragmento de Floresta Ombrófila Mista em Lages (SC), sendo cada transecção dividida em parcelas com diferentes setores de distâncias da borda e em subparcelas para avaliação do componente regenerativo. Em 2012, os regenerantes de espécies arbóreas que se encontravam nas subparcelas foram identificados, plaqueteados e divididos nas seguintes classes: classe 1 _ plantas com altura entre 10 cm e 1 m; classe 2 _ plantas com altura entre 1 e 3 m; classe 3 _ plantas com altura maior que 3 m e diâmetro medido à altura do peito (DAP) menor que 5 cm. Em 2014, esses indivíduos foram reavaliados, contabilizando os indivíduos mortos e recrutas e enquadrando os sobreviventes e recrutas nas atuais classes. Foram calculadas as taxas de mortalidade, recrutamento, mudanças de classe e mudança líquida. Os dados foram analisados por meio de uma análise de componentes principais (ACP) e tabela de contingência. Conclui-se que as espécies superaram a fase inicial do processo de invasão, demonstrando elevado incremento populacional na área estudada. Ainda, ficou evidenciado o particionamento espacial entre as espécies nativas e as exóticas, o que sugere a existência de competição interespecífica, cuja consequência pode ser a extinção local de representantes do grupo autóctone.

Abstract The replacement of native species by invasive species has caused a worldwide loss of biodiversity. This study aimed to evaluate the natural regeneration over time in a forest fragment invaded by Ligustrum lucidum W.T. Aiton and Ligustrum sinense Lour. in southern Brazil, in order to quantify this invasion. To do so, five transects were allocated in a fragment of Araucaria Forest in Lages, Santa Catarina state, with each transect divided into plots in different categories of distance from the edge and into sub-plots for the evaluation of the regenerative component. In 2012, the regenerating tree species identified in the sub-plots were tagged and classified according to height classes: Class 1, plants with height between 10 cm and 1 m; class 2, plants with height between 1 and 3 m; and Class 3, plants with a height greater than 3 m and DBH (diameter measured at breast height) less than 5 cm. In 2014, these individuals were re-evaluated, counting the dead and recruited individuals and classifying the survivors and recruits into the existing height classes. Rates of mortality, recruitment, net change, and height class changes were calculated. The data were analyzed by a Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and contingency table. It was concluded that the species overcame the early stage of the invasion process, demonstrating great population growth in the study area. Also, a spatial partitioning between native and exotic species was observed, suggesting the existence of interspecific competition, the result of which may be the local extinction of species from the autochthonous group.

RESUMO Extratos etanólicos de Luehea paniculata, Anadenanthera colubrina, Cariniana rubra, Hancornia speciosa, Qualea grandiflora, Kielmeyera coriaceae e Palicourea rigida, coletadas no Cerrado de Mato Grosso foram submetidos à análise fitoquímica preliminar para identificação das principais classes de metabolitos secundários e à quantificação do teor de compostos fenólicos totais, flavonoides e cumarinas. O estudo também descreve a atividade antimicrobiana, antioxidante e a toxicidade preliminar frente a larvas de Artemia salina. Os extratos de C. rubra e Q. grandiflora foram os mais ativos contra as cepas fúngicas de C. neoformans (CIM 3,91 µg/mL), C. krusei(CIM 15,63 µg/mL), C. parapsilosis (CIM 31,25 µg/mL) e C. albicans (CIM 62,5 µg/mL), ambos com os mesmos resultados para estes microrganismos. Em relação às cepas bacterianas a mais sensível foi S. aureus com CIM de 250 µg/mL para todos os extratos testados. Luhea paniculata e Q. grandiflora foram as espécies vegetais mais ativas contra E. coli (CIM 500 e 250 µg/mL, respectivamente) e E. faecalis (CIM 250 e 500 µg/mL, respectivamente). No teste do DPPH, merece destaque as espécies K. coriaceae (Ca) (IC50 = 0,72 ± 0,51 μg/mL), K. coriaceae (Fo) (IC50 = 1,34 ± 0,53 μg/mL), H. speciosa (Fo)(IC50 = 1,03 ± 0,52 μg/mL), Q. grandiflora (Fo) (IC50 = 1,31 ± 0,19 μg/mL) e P. rigida (Fo) (IC50 = 1,39 ± 0,53 μg/mL). Com exceção de L. paniculata(Fo), que apresentou IC50 de 14,40 ± 0,34 μg/mL e teor de flavonoides de 295,5 mg/g, todas as espécies que tiverem significativa atividade no teste do DPPH, também apresentaram teor de flavonoides semelhante ao padrão, ou seja, H. speciosa (Fo) (280,5 mg/g), Q. grandiflora(Fo) (260,5 mg/g), K. coriaceae (Ca) (250,5 mg/g), K. coriaceae (Fo) (235,5 mg/g). Quanto à determinação de fenóis totais e cumarinas os resultados foram inferiores quando comparados aos padrões.

ABSTRACT Ethanol extracts of Luehea paniculata, Anadenanthera colubrina, Cariniana rubra, Hancornia speciosa, Qualea grandiflora, Kielmeyera coriaceae and Palicourea rigida, collected in the Cerrado of Mato Grosso went through preliminary phytochemical analysis in order to identify major classes of secondary metabolites and also to quantify the total content of phenolics, flavonoids and coumarins. The study also describes the antimicrobial and antioxidant activity and the toxicity of the larva of Artemia salina. The C. rubra extracts and the Q. grandiflora were the most active against fungal strains of C. neoformans (MIC 3.91 µg/ml), C. krusei (MIC 15.63 µg/ml), C. parapsilosis(31.25 MIC µg/ml) and C. albicans (MIC 62.5 µg/ml), both with the same results for these organisms. Regarding the bacterial strains, the most sensitive one was the S. aureus with 250 µg/ml MIC for all the tested extracts. The Luhea paniculata and the Q. grandiflora were the most active against E. coli species (MIC 500 and 250 µg/ml, respectively) and E. faecalis (MIC 250 and 500 µg/ml, respectively). In the test of DPPH, K. coriaceae (Ca) (IC50 = 0.72 ± 0.51 µg/mL), K. coriaceae (Fo) (IC50 = 1.34 ± 0.53 µg/mL), H. speciosa (Fo) (IC50= 1.03 ± 0.52 µg/mL), Q. grandiflora (Fo) (IC50 = 1.31 ± 0.19 µg/ml) and P. rigida (Fo) (1.39 ± 0,53 µg/ml) stood out. With the exception of the L. paniculata (Fo), which showed an IC50 of 14.40 ± 0.34 µg/ml and a flavonoid content of 295.5 mg/g, all species that had significant activity in the DPPH test, also showed flavonoid content similar to the standard one, or H. speciosa (Fo) (280.5 mg/g) Q. grandiflora (Fo) (260.5 mg/g), K. coriaceae (Ca) (250.5 mg/g), K. coriaceae (Fo) (235.5 mg/g).

It is well known that eosinophilia is a key pathogenetic component of toxocariasis. The objective of the present study was to determine if there is an association between peritoneal and blood eosinophil influx, mast cell hyperplasia and leukotriene B4 (LTB4) production after Toxocara canis infection. Oral inoculation of 56-day-old Wistar rats (N = 5-7 per group) with 1000 embryonated eggs containing third-stage (L3) T. canis larvae led to a robust accumulation of total leukocytes in blood beginning on day 3 and peaking on day 18, mainly characterized by eosinophils and accompanied by higher serum LTB4 levels. At that time, we also noted increased eosinophil numbers in the peritoneal cavity. In addition, we observed increased peritoneal mast cell number in the peritoneal cavity, which correlated with the time course of eosinophilia during toxocariasis. We also demonstrated that mast cell hyperplasia in the intestines and lungs began soon after the T. canis larvae migrated to these compartments, reaching maximal levels on day 24, which correlated with the complete elimination of the parasite. Therefore, mast cells appear to be involved in peritoneal and blood eosinophil infiltration through an LTB4-dependent mechanism following T. canis infection in rats. Our data also demonstrate a tight association between larval migratory stages and intestinal and pulmonary mast cell hyperplasia in the toxocariasis model.
