The essay aims to elucidate the potential impact of ChatGPT and other artificial intelligence on academic research across various aspects: information retrieval and review of scholarly literature, data analysis and presentation, as well as writing and translation. We explore potential consequences, risks, and paradoxes in utilizing AI for research, encompassing issues such as authorship dilemmas, erosion of research integrity, limitations in methodological approaches, expected shifts in the dynamics of knowledge production, and changes in the relations between academic center and peripheries. We conclude by calling for comprehensive dialogue on regulation and the development of technologies that align with our evolving needs.

O ensaio procura elucidar as transformações que o Chat GPT e outras inteligências artificiais tendem a causar na pesquisa acadêmica, como: busca, seleção e leitura de literatura acadêmica, análise e apresentação de dados; escrita e tradução. Discutimos algumas possíveis consequências, riscos e paradoxos no uso de IAs para a pesquisa, tais como dilemas de autoria, potencial deterioração da integridade da pesquisa, limitação das abordagens metodológicas, possíveis modificações nas dinâmicas de produção de conhecimento e nas relações centro-periferia no ambiente acadêmico. Concluímos demandando por um diálogo aprofundado sobre regulação e criação de tecnologias adaptadas às nossas necessidades.

Abstract Objective: This study aimed to investigate non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) occurrence and factors associated with the disease in phenylketonuria (PKU) patients undergoing exclusive dietary treatment. Method: This cross-sectional study included 101 adolescents 10 to < 20 years of age with PKU, who were undergoing exclusive dietary treatment and monitored since early diagnosis at a single reference service. Anthropometric and biochemical assessments were performed and food intake was documented, and an ultrasound diagnosis of NAFLD was established. Data were evaluated using the Student’s t-test for continuous variables, the chi-square for categorical variables, and logistic regression using the Wald chi-squared test; differences with p < 0.05 were considered to be statistically significant. Results: NAFLD was detected in 26 (25.7%) teenagers. There was no difference in prevalence between the sexes or nutritional status. The final logistic regression model revealed low sensitivity (26.1%) and high specificity (94.7%). The specificity suggested a lower likelihood of NAFLD in older adolescents, in the presence of normal or high levels of alkaline phosphatase, lower carbohydrate intake, and adequate protein and lipid intake. Conclusions: The prevalence of NAFLD in adolescents with PKU was higher than that found in healthy Brazilian adolescents and similar to that found in obese Brazilian children, suggesting a higher risk for NAFLD in patients with PKU treated exclusively by dietary modification.

ABSTRACT Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the third most common cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide. The Brazilian Society of Hepatology (SBH) published in 2020 the updated recommendations for the diagnosis and treatment of HCC. Since then, new data have emerged in the literature, including new drugs approved for the systemic treatment of HCC that were not available at the time. The SBH board conducted an online single-topic meeting to discuss and review the recommendations on the systemic treatment of HCC. The invited experts were asked to conduct a systematic review of the literature on each topic related to systemic treatment and to present the summary data and recommendations during the meeting. All panelists gathered together for discussion of the topics and elaboration of the updated recommendations. The present document is the final version of the reviewed manuscript containing the recommendations of SBH and its aim is to assist healthcare professionals, policy-makers, and planners in Brazil and Latin America with systemic treatment decision-making of patients with HCC.

RESUMO O carcinoma hepatocelular (CHC) é uma das principais causas de mortalidade relacionada a câncer no Brasil e no mundo. A Sociedade Brasileira de Hepatologia (SBH) publicou em 2020 a atualização das recomendações da SBH para o diagnóstico e tratamento do CHC. Desde então, novas evidências científicas sobre o tratamento sistêmico do CHC foram relatadas na literatura médica, incluindo novos medicamentos aprovados que não estavam disponíveis na época do último consenso, levando a diretoria da SBH a promover uma reunião monotemática on-line para discutir e rever as recomendações sobre o tratamento sistêmico do CHC. Um grupo de experts foi convidado para realizar uma revisão sistemática da literatura e apresentar uma atualização, baseada em evidências científicas, sobre cada tópico relacionado ao tratamento sistêmico e a apresentar os dados e recomendações resumidas durante a reunião. Todos os painelistas se reuniram para discutir os tópicos e elaborar as recomendações atualizadas. O presente documento é a versão final do manuscrito revisado, contendo as recomendações da SBH, e seu objetivo é auxiliar os profissionais de saúde, formuladores de políticas e planejadores no Brasil e na América Latina na tomada de decisões sobre o tratamento sistêmico de pacientes com CHC.

RESUMO: Este estudo tem como objetivo compreender quais as narrativas de gênero presentes na produção científica brasileira nas ciências da saúde no que diz respeito à Educação Física escolar. Trata-se de uma pesquisa exploratória, de abordagem qualitativa. A metodologia utilizada foi a scoping review, e foram incluídos nesta pesquisa artigos científicos encontrados na Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS). Chegou-se a 16 artigos, os quais consistiram na amostra deste estudo e foram lidos na íntegra. Como resultado, pode-se afirmar que: as publicações envolvem instituições públicas em sua maioria e a maior parte delas aconteceu na década de 2010; o Ensino Fundamental foi o nível educacional mais presente e os(as) estudantes tiveram participação importante nessas pesquisas; os trabalhos se mostraram, majoritariamente, qualitativos, sendo a observação e o questionário os instrumentos de coleta mais utilizados. Em relação ao conceito de gênero, a análise evidenciou que todos os trabalhos que tratavam dessas relações entendem gênero como uma construção social e histórica. Nesse sentido, pode-se concluir que a produção científica brasileira no campo das Ciências da Saúde que se debruçou sobre as relações de gênero na Educação Física escolar esteve delineada pela busca de melhor compreensão de um cenário excludente, sexista, que estimula de maneiras diferentes as vivências corporais de meninos e meninas e que reproduz estereótipos relacionados às feminilidades e masculinidades e, assim, ao longo da história, colocou as meninas num plano inferior e desigual na educação básica.

ABSTRACT: This study seeks to understand which gender narratives are present in the Brazilian scientific production regarding school Physical Education in health sciences. This is an exploratory study with a qualitative approach. The methodology used was the scoping review, and scientific articles in the Virtual Health Library were included. The sample of this study consisted of 16 articles, which were read entirely. As a result, it can be stated that: publications involve mostly public institutions, most of which happened in the decade of 2010. Elementary School was the most present educational level, and students had an important participation in these studies; the researches were mostly qualitative, being observations and questionnaires the most used collection tools. As to the concept of gender, the analysis made evident that all the studies that dealt with these relations understand gender as a social and historical construction. In this sense, we can conclude that the Brazilian scientific production in the field of Health Sciences that focused on gender relations in school Physical Education was outlined by searching for a better understanding of an excluding, sexist scenario, which stimulates in different ways the corporal experiences of boys and girls and reproduces stereotypes related to femininity and masculinity and, thus, throughout history, has placed girls in an inferior and unequal plan in basic education.

RESUMEN: El objetivo es comprender qué narrativas de género están presentes en la producción científica brasileña en ciencias de la salud con respecto a la Educación Física escolar. La metodología fue la revisión de alcance y se incluyeron en esta investigación 16 artículos científicos que se encuentran en la Biblioteca Virtual en Salud. Como resultado, se puede decir que: la mayoría de las publicaciones involucran a instituciones públicas, y la mayoría de ellas tuvieron lugar en la década de 2010; La Enseñanza Primaria fue el nivel educativo más presente y los estudiantes tuvieron una participación importante en estas encuestas; los trabajos fueron en su mayoría cualitativos, siendo la observación y el cuestionario los instrumentos de recolección más utilizados. En cuanto al concepto de género, el análisis mostró que todos los trabajos que abordaron estas relaciones entienden el género como una construcción social e histórica. En ese sentido, se puede concluir que la producción científica brasileña en el campo de las Ciencias de la Salud que se centró en las relaciones de género en la educación física escolar estuvo delineada por la búsqueda de una mejor comprensión de un escenario excluyente, sexista, que estimula de diversas formas la vivencias corporales de niños y niñas y que reproduce estereotipos relacionados con la feminidad y la masculinidad y así, a lo largo de la historia, ha situado a las niñas en un nivel inferior y desigual en la educación básica.

ABSTRACT The mixed-model methodology is an alternative to select genotypes for traits highly influenced by the environment. In addition, this method allows FOR estimating the repeatability coefficient and predicting the number of assessments needed for a selection process to increase reliability. This study aimed to determine the minimum number of evaluations necessary for a reliable selection process and to estimate the variance components used for predicting genetic gains between and within half-sib families of elephant grass ( Cenchrus purpureus (Schumach.) Morrone ) using the mixed-model methodology. Half-sib families were generated using genotypes from the Active Germplasm Bank of Elephant Grass. The experiment was performed in a randomized block design with nine half-sib families, three replicates, and eight plants per plot. We evaluated 216 genotypes (individual plants) of elephant grass. The deviance analysis was carried out, genetic parameters were estimated, gains between and within families were predicted, and repeatability coefficients were obtained using Selegen software. There was genetic variability for selection within the families evaluated. The reliability values found above 60 % for plant height and number of tillers and above 80 % for dry matter yield suggest that only two evaluations are required to select superior genotypes with outstanding reliability. Sixteen genotypes were identified and selected for their productive potential, which can be used as parents in elephant grass breeding programs for bioenergy production.

Abstract Central blood pressure (cBP) is considered an independent predictor of organ damage, cardiovascular events and all-cause mortality. Evidence has shown that high intensity interval training (HIIT) is superior to moderate-intensity continuous training (MICT) for improving cardiorespiratory fitness and vascular function. However, the effects of these aerobic training modalities on cBP have not yet been properly reviewed.This meta-analysis aims to investigate to effects of HIIT versus MICT on cBP.We conducted a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials that compared HIIT versus MICT on cBP. Primary outcomes were measures of central systolic blood pressure (cSBP) and central diastolic blood pressure (cDBP). Peripheral systolic blood pressure (pSBP) and diastolic blood pressure (pDBP), pulse wave velocity (PWV) and maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) were analyzed as second outcomes. Meta-analysis of mean differences (MD) was conducted using the random effects model.Our study included 163 patients enrolled in six trials. We found that HIIT was superior to MICT in reducing the cSBP (MD = -3.12 mmHg, 95% CI: -4.75 to -1.50, p = 0.0002) and SBP (MD = -2.67 mmHg, 95% CI: -5.18 to -0.16, p = 0.04), and increasing VO2max(MD = 2.49 mL/kg/min, 95% CI: 1.25 to 3.73, p = 0.001). However, no significant differences were reported for cDBP, DBP and PWV.HIIT was superior to MICT in reducing the cSBP, which suggests its potential role as a non-pharmacological therapy for high blood pressure.

Resumo A pressão arterial central (PAc) é considerada um preditor independente de lesão de órgão, eventos cardiovasculares e mortalidade por todas as causas. Evidências mostram que o treino intervalado de alta intensidade (HIIT) é superior ao treino contínuo de intensidade moderada (MICT) na melhoria da aptidão cardiorrespiratória e da função vascular. No entanto, os efeitos dessas modalidades de treino aeróbico sobre a PAc não foram propriamente revisados. Esta metanálise tem como objetivo investigar os efeitos do HIIT versus MICT sobre a PAc.Conduzimos uma metanálise de ensaios controlados randomizados que compararam HIIT versus MICT sobre a PAc. Os desfechos primários foram Pressão Arterial Sistólica (PAS) central (PASc) e Pressão Arterial Diastólica central (PADc). A PAS periférica (PASp), a PAD periférica (PADp), a Velocidade de Onda de Pulso (VOP) e a captação máxima de oxigênio (VO2max) foram analisadas como desfechos secundários. A metanálise das diferenças médias (DM) foi conduzida usando modelos de efeitos aleatórios.Nosso estudo incluiu 163 pacientes recrutados em seis ensaios. Encontramos que HIIT foi superior ao MICT em reduzir PASc (DM = -3,12 mmHg, IC95% -4,75 – 1,50, p = 0,0002) e PAS (DM = -2,67 mmHg, IC95% -5,18 – -0,16, p = 0,04) e aumentar VO2max (DM = 2,49 mL/Kg/min, IC95% 1,25 – 3,73, p = 0,001). No entanto, não foram relatadas diferenças quanto à PADc, PAD ou VOP. O HIIT foi superior ao MICT em reduzir PASc, sugerindo seu potencial papel como uma terapia não farmacológica para a pressão arterial elevada.

ABSTRACT The present work evaluated the effect of thermal treatment on the acoustic behavior of african mahogany wood (Khaya ivorensis A. Chev.) submitted to two types of thermal treatments called dry treatment, carried out in an oven at temperatures of 130, 160 and 190 °C, and wet treatment, using steam in an autoclave at temperatures and pressures of 123 °C and 1.2 kgf.cm−2 and 160 °C and 6.0 kgf.cm−2, respectively. Conjugated treatments were also carried out, where part of the samples first went through wet treatment and after that, through dry treatment. After treatments, the samples were submitted to acoustic evaluation through mechanical vibration tests, using the transverse impulse excitation technique, as reported for in the ASTM-E1876 standard. The fundamental resonance frequency (fr), the specific transverse dynamic (Espe), the logarithmic decrement of damping (LDD) and the acoustic conversion efficiency (ACE) were determined. According to the results obtained, the wood treated only by steam in an autoclave at 123 °C stood out in relation to the other treatments, including the conjugated was. An increase of 7.3 % was verified for the fr, 10.8 % for Eesp and 26.4 % for ECA, and reduction of 11.9 % for Dl. It was observed the optimization of African mahogany’s acoustic properties.

RESUMO O presente trabalho avaliou o efeito do tratamento térmico no comportamento acústico em madeira de mogno africano (Khaya ivorensis A. Chev.) submetida a dois tipos de tratamentos, denominados tratamento a seco (TS), realizado em mufla elétrica a temperaturas de 130, 160 e 190 °C, e tratamento hidrotérmico (TH), utilizando vapor de água em autoclave nas temperaturas e pressões de 123 °C e 1,2 kgf.cm−2 e 160 °C e 6,0 kgf.cm−2, respectivamente. Os tratamentos foram realizados em conformidade com um planejamento experimental. Após os tratamentos, as amostras foram submetidas à avaliação acústica através de ensaios por vibração mecânica, utilizando a técnica de excitação por impulso transversal, como previsto na norma ASTM-E1876. As grandezas acústicas determinadas foram: frequência de ressonância transversal (fr(Tr)), decaimento logarítmico transversal (Dl(Tr)), módulo de elasticidade dinâmico específico transversal (Eesp(Tr)) e eficiência da conversão acústica transversal (ECA(Tr)). De acordo com os resultados obtidos, a madeira modificada em autoclave a 123 °C se destacou em relação aos outros tratamentos, inclusive dos conjugados. Foram verificados aumentos de 7,3 % para fr(Tr), 10,8 % para o Eesp(Tr) e 26,4 % para o ECA(Tr), e redução de 11,9 % para Dl. Tais resultados indicam otimização das propriedades do mogno africano para aplicações acústicas.

Abstract Objectives: To provide an overview of the main evidence-based recommendations for the diagnosis of hearing loss in children and adolescents aged 0–18 years. Methods: Task force members were educated on knowledge synthesis methods, including electronic database search, review and selection of relevant citations, and critical appraisal of selected studies. Articles written in English or Portuguese on childhood hearing loss were eligible for inclusion. The American College of Physicians’ guideline grading system and the American Thyroid Association’s guideline criteria were used for critical appraisal of evidence and recommendations for therapeutic interventions. Results: The topics were divided into 2 parts: (1) treatment of sensorineural hearing loss: individual hearing aids, bilateral cochlear implants, cochlear implants in young children, unilateral hearing loss, and auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder; and (2) treatment of conductive/mixed hearing loss: external/middle ear malformations, ventilation tube insertion, and tympanoplasty in children. Conclusions: In children with hearing loss, in addition to speech therapy, Hearing AIDS (HAs) or implantable systems may be indicated. Even in children with profound hearing loss, both the use of HAs and behavioral assessments while using the device are important.

Abstract Objectives: To provide an overview of the main evidence-based recommendations for the diagnosis of hearing loss in children and adolescents aged 0 to 18 years. Methods: Task force members were educated on knowledge synthesis methods, including electronic database search, review and selection of relevant citations, and critical appraisal of selected studies. Articles written in English or Portuguese on childhood hearing loss were eligible for inclusion. The American College of Physicians’ guideline grading system and the American Thyroid Association’s guideline criteria were used for critical appraisal of evidence and recommendations for therapeutic interventions. Results: The evaluation and diagnosis of hearing loss: universal newborn hearing screening, laboratory testing, congenital infections (especially cytomegalovirus), genetic testing and main syndromes, radiologic imaging studies, vestibular assessment of children with hearing loss, auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder, autism spectrum disorder, and noise-induced hearing loss. Conclusions: Every child with suspected hearing loss has the right to diagnosis and appropriate treatment if necessary. This task force considers 5 essential rights: (1) Otolaryngologist consultation; (2) Speech assessment and therapy; (3) Diagnostic tests; (4) Treatment; (5) Ophthalmologist consultation.

ABSTRACT One of the challenges of the energy sector is the identification of renewable resources with less impact on the environment and that are economically viable. This study aimed to estimate the genetic diversity of eleven full-sib families of elephant grass, using quantitative traits associated with bioenergy production. The trial followed a randomized blocks design, with four replications and each plot (family) consisting of five plants, totaling 220 genotypes. Five quantitative traits were measured: dry matter yield, dry matter percentage, plant height, stem diameter and number of tillers. The genetic diversity was estimated using multivariate methods (principal component analysis and hierarchical clustering). The analysis revealed a significant genetic diversity among the full-sib of elephant grass, with a greater variability observed for dry matter yield and number of tillers. The families 1, 2, 5, 7 and 8 exhibited superior genotypes for bioenergy production-related traits. The grouping analysis generated twenty clusters, enabling the differentiation of genotypes. Eight clusters comprised genotypes with a high dry matter yield and plant height, simultaneously, surpassing the overall mean for number of tillers.

RESUMO Um dos desafios do setor energético é a identificação de recursos renováveis com menor impacto ao meio ambiente e que sejam economicamente viáveis. Objetivou-se estimar a diversidade genética de onze famílias de irmãos completos de capim-elefante, utilizando-se características quantitativas associadas à produção de bioenergia. O ensaio foi conduzido em delineamento de blocos ao acaso, com quatro repetições, sendo cada parcela (família) composta por cinco plantas, totalizando 220 genótipos. Cinco características quantitativas foram mensuradas: produção de matéria seca, porcentagem de matéria seca, altura de planta, diâmetro de colmo e número de perfilhos. A estimativa da diversidade genética foi realizada por meio de métodos multivariados (componentes principais e agrupamento hierárquico). Observou-se que há diversidade genética em irmãos completos de capim-elefante, com maior amplitude de variabilidade para produção de matéria seca e número de perfilhos. As famílias 1, 2, 5, 7 e 8 apresentam genótipos superiores para características relacionadas à produção de bioenergia. Vinte grupos obtidos no agrupamento maximizaram a distinção dos genótipos. Oito grupos continham genótipos com alta produção de matéria seca e altura de planta, simultaneamente, além de valores acima da média geral para número de perfilhos.

ABSTRACT Elephant grass stands out among lignocellulosic biomass plants utilized for second-generation biofuel production due to several advantageous characteristics compared to other raw materials. Its short production cycle and ability to thrive in adverse soil and climate conditions contribute to its appeal. Additionally, breeders seek genotypes with high productivity potential and adaptability to various favorable cultivation environments. This study aimed to estimate genetic parameters, predict genetic values using mixed models (REML/BLUP), and evaluate stability and adaptability for energy biomass production in elephant grass genotypes. The experiment was conducted in Campos dos Goytacazes, RJ, Brazil, utilizing a two-replicate experimental block design that included 40 elephant grass genotypes. Four harvest assessments were performed between 2016 and 2019. Genetic parameter estimation and selection of superior genotypes based on genetic value using the REML/BLUP procedure were performed using Selegen software. Stability and adaptability analyses were obtained through the harmonic mean of genotypic values (HMGV), enabling the identification of stable and highly productive genotypes. Genotypes 17, 18, 32, 16, 36, 6, 15, 31, and 34 exhibited outstanding performance in terms of HMGV, indicating enhanced stability, adaptability, and simultaneous productivity, thus ensuring robustness in cultivation. These selected genotypes hold potential for future breeding programs aimed at improving elephant grass yield for biomass production.
