Abstract The present work evaluated the efficiency of applied biological control and chemical control of Chrysodeixis includens, and the management of this looper caterpillar in the field soybean crop. The experimental design was a randomized complete block design, consisting of six treatments applied only once: two different doses of Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt), 0.2 and 0.35 L ha-1; Metarhizium rileyi strain UFMS 02 (Mr), 2.0 and 5.0 kg ha-1; insecticide Flubendiamide (Fd) 20 mL ha-1; and the control. The reduction of the pest and the percentage of efficiency of the products along the development of the soybean, besides some phytotechnical parameters, were evaluated thirteen days after the application. In general, there was a decrease in the number of caterpillars after thirteen days of spraying, with the Bt treatment being 350 mL ha-1, which provided the greatest reduction in the population (96.2%) when compared to the control (6.7 %). Regarding efficiency, treatments containing biological products Bt (two doses) and Mr 5.0 kg ha-1 provided the best results: 95.88, 84.69 and 92.35%, respectively. Among the phytotechnical parameters evaluated, the biological treatments were superior to the chemical treatments in relation to the productivity and the number of pods per plant, not differing statistically among them.

Ninfas e adultos do percevejo-de-renda (Hemiptera: Tingidae) foram encontrados em lavouras de mandioca (Manihot esculenta) no Estado do Mato Grosso do Sul, Brasil. Os insetos foram coletados em campo e levados ao laboratório, onde foram identificados com base em algumas características morfológicas nas espécies Vatiga manihotae (Drake) e V. illudens (Drake), os quais são registrados pela primeira vez no Estado mencionado.

Nymphs and adults of the lace bug (Hemiptera: Tingidae) have been found in cassava crops (Manihot esculenta) in Mato Grosso do Sul State, Brazil. The insects were collected in the field and taken to the laboratory where they were identified based on some morphological traits of the species Vatiga manihotae (Drake) and V. illudens (Drake), which are first reported in the aforementioned state.

As espécies de pulgões Aphis gossypii e Myzus persicae são cosmopolitas e polífagas, causando prejuízos em plantas cultivadas. Os efeitos dos fungos entomopatogênicos Beauveria bassiana (isolado IBCB 66), Metarhizium anisopliae (isolado IBCB 121), Paecilomyces fumosoroseus (isolado IBCB 141) e Lecanicillium (= Verticillium) lecanii (isolado JAB 02) foram avaliados sobre ninfas de 3º ínstar de A. gossypii e M. persicae. O experimento foi realizado a 25 ± 1ºC, 70 ± 10% de UR e fotofase de 12h. Os pulgões foram colocados em disco foliar (algodão/pimentão) com uma camada de 1 cm de espessura de ágar-água, em placas de Petri. A inoculação de 1 ml de suspensões fúngicas foi realizada com concentrações que variaram de 1,0 x 10(6) a 1,0 x 10(8) conídios/ml de cada fungo. No tratamento testemunha foi adicionado 1 ml de água esterilizada sobre os discos foliares. A mortalidade dos pulgões foi avaliada diariamente. B. bassiana e M. anisopliae causaram mortalidade de 100% no 7º dia após a inoculação, para ambas espécies. L. lecanii foi o fungo que provocou mortalidade mais tardia nos pulgões e M. persicae foi mais suscetível aos fungos que A. gossypii.

The aphids Aphis gossypii and Myzus persicae are cosmopolitan, poliphagous and damage cultivated plants. The effects of the entomopathogenic fungi Beauveria bassiana (isolate IBCB 66), Metarhizium anisopliae (isolate IBCB 121), Paecilomyces fumosoroseus (isolate IBCB 141) and Lecanicillium (= Verticillium) lecanii (isolate JAB 02) on third instar nymphs of A. gossypii and M. persicae were evaluated in the laboratory at 25°C, 70 ± 10% RH and 12h photophase. The aphids were transferred to petri dishes with a foliar disk (cotton or pepper) with a layer of 1 cm tick of agar-water. The fungi were applied in a suspension containing 1.0 x 106 to 1.0 x 108 conidia/ml. In the control treatment 1 ml of sterilized water was added to the foliar disks. The mortality of aphids was evaluated daily. B. bassiana and M. anisopliae caused 100% mortality at the seventh day after inoculation, for both species. L. lecanii was the fungus that provided mortality later in the aphids and M. persicae was more susceptible to both fungi than A. gossypii.

O corte mecanizado da cana-de-açúcar resulta num acúmulo da palhada depositada no solo, proporcionando temperatura e umidade favoráveis à cigarrinha-da-raiz, Mahanarva fimbriolata (Stål), que provoca sérios problemas devido a sua ocorrência generalizada e altas populações. A patogenicidade de 79 isolados do fungo Metarhizium anisopliae (Metsch.) Sorok, provenientes de diferentes hospedeiros e regiões do País, foi testada em laboratório. Dez ninfas da cigarrinha foram colocadas em placas de Petri (9 cm de diâmetro) contendo folhas de cana lavadas e pulverizadas com 1 ml de uma suspensão contendo 5 x 10(7) conídios/ml. Cada tratamento foi composto por cinco repetições. Após a pulverização, as placas foram colocadas em câmara climatizada a 25 ± 1ºC, 70 ± 10% de UR e fotofase de 12h. A mortalidade foi avaliada diariamente, calculando-se os índices de mortalidade acumulada total, confirmada e corrigida de cada tratamento. Os melhores isolados testados foram: IBCB 348, IBCB 351, IBCB 363, IBCB 408, IBCB 410, IBCB 418, IBCB 425 e IBCB 482, os quais apresentaram mortalidade confirmada igual ou superior a 70% seis dias após a pulverização.

The accumulated mulch on the soil resultant from the mechanized cutting of sugarcane promotes favorable temperature and moist to Mahanarva fimbriolata (Stål), a pest that causes serious problems due to its widespread occurrence and high populations. Seventy nine isolates of Metarhizium anisopliae (Metsch.) Sorok. from different hosts and regions were tested for their pathogenicity. Ten spitlebugs were put in petri dishes (9 cm of diameter) containing sugarcane leaves sprayed with 1 ml of a suspension containing 5 x 10(7) conidia/ml. Five replicates were used per treatment. The petri dishes were kept at 25 ± 1ºC, 70 ± 10% RH and 12h photophase. Insects were monitored daily to calculate total cumulative mortality, as well as corrected and confirmed mortality for each treatment. The best tested isolates were: IBCB 348, IBCB 351, IBCB 363, IBCB 408, IBCB 410, IBCB 418, IBCB 425 and IBCB 482, which showed confirmed mortality equal or higher than 70%, six days after spraying.

O efeito de oito fungicidas e doze inseticidas, utilizados nas culturas de alface e crisântemo, foi avaliado in vitro sobre os fungos entomopatogênicos Beauveria bassiana (Bals.) Vuill., Metarhizium anisopliae (Metsch.) Sorok., Paecilomyces fumosoroseus (Wise) (Holm ex SF Gray) e Verticillium lecanii (Zimmerman). Os produtos foram colocados em placas de Petri contendo meio de cultura (BDA), nas concentrações recomendadas para aplicação em campo. Após a inoculação dos fungos, as placas foram incubadas em sala climatizada a 25±1°C, fotofase de 12h e umidade relativa de 70±10%. Foram avaliados o diâmetro médio das colônias e o número de conídios produzidos após um período de incubação variável para cada fungo estudado. Os inseticidas tiametoxam e imidaclopride foram compatíveis com todos os fungos estudados. Por outro lado, óxido cuproso, iprodione, paratiom metílico, tebuconazole, metalaxil, mancozebe, folpete, fenpropatrina e tetraconazole inibiram o crescimento dos fungos, sendo classificados como produtos tóxicos ou muito tóxicos aos entomopatógenos.

The effect of eight fungicides and twelve insecticides used in lettuce and chrysanthemum crops, was evaluated on the fungi Beauveria bassiana (Bals.) Vuill., Metarhizium anisopliae (Metsch.) Sorok., Paecilomyces fumosoroseus (Wise) (Holm ex SF Gray) and Verticillium lecanii (Zimmerman) through in vitro tests. The products were added to petri dishes containing culture medium (PDA), according to the concentrations recommended for application in field. After the inoculation of the fungi, the plates were incubate at 25±1°C, 12h fotophase and 70±10% relative humidity. The mean diameter of colonies and the number of conidia produced after a variable period of incubation for each studied fungus were evaluated. The insecticides thiametoxan and imidacloprid were compatible with all the fungi studied. On the other hand, cuprous oxide, iprodione, methyl parathion, tebuconazol, metalaxil, mancozeb, folpet, fenpropathrin and tetraconazol inhibited the growth of the fungi, being classified as toxicant or very toxicant products to the entomopathogens.
