ABSTRACT Rice (Oryza sativa) is among the most important crops worldwide; however, rice crops demand high water consumption. Future projections indicate reduced water availability and severe drought events, which may affect rice crops as the cereal is highly sensitive to drought stress. Thus, cultivars with lower water demand for irrigation or drought escape capacities are among the strategies to address this issue. This study aimed to assess five mutant rice genotypes in terms of growth cycle length, other agronomic interest traits, and drought response in the reproductive stage. The mutant genotypes evaluated showed a shortening of the growth cycle compared to the original cultivar, BRS Pampeira, representing a drought escape strategy. In addition, mutations did not negatively affect plant height and crop yield. However, similar to the original cultivar, mutants are not tolerant to water deficit in the reproductive stage. The genotypes evaluated have potential to be released as early cycle cultivars, which can reduce water demand during the harvest season while presenting a drought escape strategy. Resumen Introducción: La distribución de los peces de agua dulce en los Andes colombianos es el resultado de la interacción entre factores históricos y recientes. Actualmente, el paisaje Andino enfrenta procesos de rápida transformación. Sin embargo, el conocimiento sobre la distribución de las especies y sus requerimientos ambientales no avanza tan rápido como las transformaciones en curso en las redes fluviales. Objetivo: Comprender la conformación del ensamble de peces en la cuenca media y baja del río Cauca, considerando el contexto ambiental local antes de la construcción de la represa de Ituango, y cuantificar la diversidad beta y sus dos componentes (recambio y anidamiento) entre las comunidades de peces locales. Métodos: Se analizaron 58 localidades durante nueve años (entre febrero 2010 y noviembre 2018), período previo a la operación de la represa. La riqueza de especies (diversidad α), el recambio de especies (diversidad β) y la composición del conjunto se estimaron para las localidades dadas. Resultados: Se registraron 114 especies, que representan ~ 49 % de la riqueza total de especies conocidas para la cuenca del Magdalena. La distribución de la riqueza mostró que el número de especies varía entre los ambientes acuáticos. Las ciénagas presentaron el mayor número de especies, seguidas por el río Cauca, mientras que las quebradas presentaron los valores más bajos de riqueza. Los análisis espaciales de la diversidad β revelaron un alto componente de variación en el área de estudio debido al reemplazo de especies entre los ambientes acuáticos. Conclusiones: La implementación del monitoreo a largo plazo permitió reconocer que la cuenca del río Cauca conserva una gran variedad de ambientes ricos en especies. El recambio de especies indica una alta proporción de endemismo o múltiples sitios con especies únicas. Finalmente, nuestro estudio servirá como línea base para verificar, con el tiempo, si la construcción de la represa está asociada con cambios esenciales en la estructura de las comunidades de peces.

Abstract Introduction: The distribution of freshwater fishes in the Colombian Andes results from the interaction between historical and recent factors. Currently, the Andean landscape is facing rapid transformation processes. However, the knowledge regarding species distribution and environmental requirements is advancing slower than the transformations underway in the fluvial networks. Objective: To understand the conformation of the fish assemblage in the middle and lower Cauca River basin, considering the local environmental context before the construction of the Ituango Dam, and quantifying β diversity and its two components (turnover and nestedness) amongst local fish communities. Methods: 58 localities were monitored during nine years (between February 2010 and November 2018), the period before the dam's operation. The species richness (α-diversity), species turnover (β-diversity), and assemblage composition were estimated for the given localities. Results: 114 species were recorded, representing ~ 49 % of the total richness of known species for the Magdalena basin. The richness distribution showed that the number of species varies among the aquatic environments. Swamps presented the most significant number of species, followed by the Cauca River, while streams had the lowest values of richness. The spatial analyses of β-diversity revealed a high variation component in the study area due to species replacement between the aquatic environments. Conclusions: The implementation of long-term monitoring allowed us to recognize that the Cauca River basin conserves a great variety of species-rich environments. The species turnover indicates a high proportion of endemism or multiple sites with unique species. Finally, our study will serve as a baseline to verify, over time, whether the dam's construction is associated with essential changes in the structure of fish communities.

Resumen Antecedentes: Aunque la mayoría de los taxones de Nama habitan en sustratos arenosos, ninguno de ellos parece ser exclusivo del ambiente de dunas costeras. Se encontró una pequeña población de un taxón de aspecto único en la costa del Pacífico peninsular, que aquí se presenta como una nueva especie. Pregunta y/o Hipótesis: En el análisis morfológico de los individuos de un supuesto nuevo taxón, se distinguen algunas particularidades, tales como una forma sufrutescente de herbácea perenne con ramas erectas y compactas, semejando una pequeña almohadilla, a diferencia del resto de especies conocidas, que son más bien formas procumbentes o erectas. Tiene además hojas revolutas. Especie de Estudio: Nama asuncionensis sp. nov. (Namaceae) y especies morfológicamente similares. Sitio de Estudio: Costa Pacífica Central de la Península de Baja California, México. Método: A través de bibliografía, revisión de ejemplares de herbario y fotografías, se realizó un análisis morfológico comparativo con otros taxones reconocidos que habitan en la Península de Baja California y México continental. Resultados: Basándose en los análisis comparativos, Nama asuncionensis se presenta e ilustra aquí como una nueva especie. Conclusiones: Nama asuncionensis es una especie microendémica restringida al entorno costero del Pacífico peninsular. Proponemos que este nuevo taxón se incluya en la sección Eunama del género basándonos en sus características morfológicas, que incluyen una cápsula loculicida membranosa dehiscente, estilos libres y sépalos divididos hasta la base. Este taxón parece estar limitado a una estrecha franja costera, con alta humedad relativa, donde desarrolla sus hojas y flores durante la estación benigna.

Abstract Background: Although most of the Nama taxa grow on sandy substrates, none of them is restricted to the coastal dune environment. A small population of a unique looking taxon was found on the Pacific coast of the Baja California peninsula, which is here presented as a new species. Question and/or Hypothesis: In the morphological analysis in the individuals of a putative new taxon, some peculiarities stand out, such as a suffruticose herbaceous perennial growth form with erect and compact branching, featuring a small cushion, unlike the rest of the known species, which are rather procumbent, or erect in form. It also has revolute leaf margins in the blade. Studied Species: Nama asuncionensis sp. nov. (Namaceae) and morphologically similar species. Study Site: Central Pacific coast of Baja California, Mexico. Method: Through bibliographic consultation, review of herbarium specimens, and photographs, a comparative morphological analysis was carried out with other Nama species of the peninsula and mainland Mexico. Results: Based on the comparative analyses, Nama asuncionensis is here presented and illustrated as a new species. Conclusions: Nama asuncionensis is a micro-endemic species restricted to the Pacific coastal environment of the peninsula. We propose that this new taxon be included in the Eunama section of the genus based on its morphological characteristics, including a membranous loculicidal dehiscent capsule, free styles, and sepals divided to the base. This taxon seems to be limited to a narrow coastal strip, with high relative humidity, where it develops its fresh leaves and flowers during the mild season.

SUMMARY Urbanization without proper planning is the cause of a number of ecological problems, including degradation and loss of vegetation. Analysis of trees’ diversity and structure is relevant due to their relationship with tree health and the trees’ consequent capacity to provide environmental, social and economic benefits. Trees in favorable conditions have a direct impact on urban sustainability, planning and management. The aim of this study was to evaluate the health of trees located in green areas of the city of Texcoco de Mora, Mexico and its relationship with the structure, diversity and typology of urban green areas, in order to provide management and planning recommendations. 21 green areas of the city were evaluated and a tree census was carried out. Richness and diversity indices were used to analyze tree vegetation and chlorophyll fluorescence (Fv/Fm) as indicators of tree health. 1,543 trees were registered, including 53 species distributed in 36 genera and 24 families. The evaluation revealed that the urban trees were made up mostly of young individuals, and showed tree density to be higher than other green spaces in Mexico. The use of richness and diversity indices allowed the researchers to evaluate the presence of a greater number of non-native species and denoted the differences between Urban Green Areas (AVU). Evaluation of chlorophyll fluorescence (Fv/Fm) indicated that the trees are under stress conditions (Fv/Fm < 0.780). No correlation was found between the values of Fv/Fm, richness and diversity in the studied areas, however, the shape and surface of the green areas were correlated with the aforementioned indices.

RESUMEN La urbanización sin la planeación adecuada es causa de un sin número de problemas ecológicos, entre ellos la degradación y pérdida de vegetación. El análisis de la diversidad y estructura del arbolado toma relevancia por la relación con su condición de salud y la consecuente capacidad para proveer beneficios ambientales, sociales y económicos. El arbolado en condiciones favorables repercute de forma directa en temas de sostenibilidad urbana, planeación y manejo. El objetivo del presente estudio fue evaluar la salud del arbolado ubicado en áreas verdes de la ciudad de Texcoco de Mora, México y su relación con la estructura, diversidad y tipología de áreas verdes urbanas, para proveer recomendaciones de manejo y planeación. Se evaluaron 21 áreas verdes de la ciudad y se realizó un censo del arbolado. Se utilizaron índices de riqueza y diversidad para analizar la vegetación arbórea y la fluorescencia de la clorofila (Fv/Fm) como un indicador de salud de la vegetación arbórea. Se registraron 1.543 árboles, identificando 53 especies distribuidas en 36 géneros y 24 familias. La composición reveló un arbolado conformado mayormente por especies jóvenes, presentando una densidad arbórea superior a otros espacios verdes en México. El uso de índices de riqueza y diversidad permitió evaluar la presencia de un mayor número de especies no nativas y denotó la existencia de diferencias entre Áreas Verdes Urbanas (AVU). La fluorescencia de la clorofila (Fv/Fm) indicó que el arbolado se encuentra en condiciones de estrés (Fv/Fm < 0,780). No se encontró correlación entre los valores de Fv/Fm, riqueza y diversidad en las áreas estudiadas, sin embargo, la forma y superficie de las áreas verdes se correlacionaron con los índices antes mencionados.

Resumen: El Pediatric Index of Mortality 3 (PIM3) es una escala que estima el riesgo de mortalidad en niños ingresados a Unidad de Cuidado Intensivo Pediátrico (UCIP) en la primera hora del ingreso. Objetivo: validar la escala PIM3 en población pediátrica que ingresa a UCIP en alturas sobre los 2.500 metros sobre el nivel del mar (m.s.n.m.), y evaluar si el lactato y el índice Saturación de Oxígeno/Fracción inspirada de oxígeno (SpO2/FiO2) mejoran su capacidad de predicción de mortalidad. Pacientes y Método: Estudio prospectivo multicéntrico realizado en diez UCIP de Colombia entre noviembre de 2016 y junio de 2017. Se recolectaron variables para cálculo del PIM3, lactato sérico y el índice SpO2/FiO2. Se validó su capacidad de discriminación con el área bajo la curva ROC y la calibración mediante la prueba de bondad de ajuste de Hosmer Lemeshow. Resultados: Se incluyeron 2.803 registros de admisiones, con una mortalidad global de 4,8%, y razón estandarizada de mortalidad de 1,1 (IC95%; 1,00-1,3). El PIM3 mostró una baja calibración (p < 0,001) y una adecuada discriminación para la población aplicada (ROC 0,84; IC95% 0,83-0,86). La adición de lactato sérico y SpO2/ FiO2 permitieron una buena calibración (p = 0,75), y mantuvo una alta discriminación de mortalidad (ROC 0,86; IC95% 0,84-0,87). Conclusiones: El comportamiento de la escala PIM3 tiene adecuada discriminación, pero una baja calibración en niños admitidos a UCIP sobre los 2500 m.s.n.m.. Las variables lactato y SpO2/FiO2 mejoraron su habilidad predictiva.

Patients and Method: A prospective multicenter study was carried out in 10 PICUs in Colombia between November 2016 and June 2017. Variables were collected for the calculation of PIM3, serum lactate, and SpO2/FiO2 index. Their discrimination capacity was validated with the area under the ROC curve and calibration using the Hosmer Lemeshow goodness-of-fit test. Results: 2,803 admissions were included, with an overall mortality of 4.8% and a standardized mortality ratio of 1.1 (95%CI 1.00-1.3). PIM3 showed low calibration (p < 0.001) and adequate discrimination for the studied population (ROC 0.84; 95%CI 0.83-0.86). The addition of serum lactate and SpO2/FiO2 allowed a good calibration (p = 0.75) and maintained a high discrimination of mortality (ROC 0.86; 95%CI 0.84-0.87). Determinar la seropositividad a anticuerpos anti-IgG por infección de Echinococcus granulosus, Fasciola hepatica y cisticerco de Taenia solium y describir las características de los infectados en 13 regiones de la sierra peruana entre 2016 y 2019. Materiales y métodos. Estudio observacional transversal, que analizó 7811 fichas epidemiológicas de la vigilancia basada en laboratorio de las zoonosis parasitarias del periodo 2016-2019. El diagnóstico se realizó mediante la detección de anticuerpos tipo IgG anti E. granulosus, F. hepatica y cisticerco de T. solium utilizando antígenos nativos mediante el ensayo inmunoabsorbente ligado a enzimas (ELISA) e Inmunoblot. La diferencia en la frecuencia de casos de estas zoonosis según características identificadas se realizó mediante la prueba chi-cuadrado de Pearson y prueba exacta de Fisher. Resultados. Se determinó una seropositividad de 7,9% para fascioliasis, 4,9% para equinococosis quística, y 2,3% para cisticerco de T. solium. Estas frecuencias fueron mayores en Cerro de Pasco para equinococosis quística (24,5%), en Ayacucho para cisticerco de T. solium (4,5%) y en Puno para fascioliasis (40,6%). Entre las características sociodemográficas, se encontró una diferencia estadísticamente significativa en la frecuencia de casos para todas las zoonosis según grupo etario, ocupación, y región de residencia. Además, se encontró diferencia con el consumo de verduras en emolientes, y entre las características clínico-epidemiológicas con tener antecedentes familiares de las zoonosis parasitarias. Conclusiones. A partir de las 7811 muestras evaluadas, se encontró que estas zoonosis parasitarias están distribuidas en 13 regiones de la sierra del Perú, ocasionando un problema de salud importante, con frecuencias que varían según diversas características.

Resumen Baja California es un área importante ecológicamente siendo la única zona del país con un ambiente mediterráneo y cuenta con una alta diversidad de especies y endemismos. Los estudios de biodiversidad y diversidad genética en esta región de México son escasos, sobre todo para grupos ecológicamente importantes como los artrópodos terrestres. Debido a la escasez de información, se utilizaron datos moleculares para obtener la diversidad genética y las historias poblacionales de las 2 especies de Phidippus (Araneae:Salticidae) más abundantes de la región. La especie más ampliamente distribuida es Phidippus johnsoni y se encontró que pertenece a una gran población panmíctica en Baja California, mientras que P. phoenix se divide en 2 poblaciones. Ambas especies presentaron una alta diversidad genética y grandes tamaños poblacionales, los cuales aumentaron durante los últimos 150,000 años para P. johnsoni y los últimos 30,000 años, después del último Máximo Glacial, para P. phoneix. Este estudio refuerza la importancia de esta región, no solo por su diversidad de especies, sino también por la diversidad genética que se encuentra dentro de las poblaciones, la cual se ha acumulado desde el Pleistoceno, gracias a la relativa estabilidad ecológica de la zona durante ese periodo.

Abstract The northwestern Mexican Baja California state is an ecologically unique area being the only part of the country with a Mediterranean ecosystem and high species diversity and endemism for many groups. Studies on the biodiversity of the region are scarce, especially regarding ecologically important groups such as terrestrial arthropods. Even scarcer are studies on another important aspect of diversity, namely genetic diversity. Due to the paucity of information, the genetic diversity and population histories of the 2 most abundant species of Phidippus (Araneae: Salticidae) of the region are presented, based on nuclear and mitochondrial DNA data. Phidippus johnsoni, the more widespread of the 2, belongs to 1 large, panmictic population in Baja California, while P. phoenix was divided into 2 populations. Both species have high genetic diversity and estimated large population sizes, which increased during the last 150,000 years for P. johnsoni, and the last 30,000 years, after the Last Glacial Maximum for P. phoenix. This study, therefore, reinforces the importance of this area, not only for its species diversity but also for the genetic diversity found within the populations, which reflects ecological stability during the Pleistocene, allowing for the accumulation of genetic diversity through time.

Abstract Companies in the globalized world use outsourcing as a production model, opting for subcontracting from companies specialized in different areas of work. In this context, the objective of this study is to determine the relationship between outsourcing as a productive model and customer loyalty of a financial company, for which the type of applied research and descriptive-correlational design were used. The survey questionnaire was applied to collect data on the variables and dimensions. Results, it was found that the relationship between outsourcing and Customer loyalty in a financial company is considerable, with a correlation coefficient τ = 0.628 and p = 0.000, the analysis between the flexibility and information dimensions was moderate τ = 0.412 and p = 0.000, between cost savings and moderate internal marketing τ = 0.487 and p = 0.000, and between professionalism and considerable communication τ = 0.535 and p = 0.000, between quality of service and considerable customer experience τ = 0.696 and p=0.000. With these results it is concluded that outsourcing as a productive model of the company is moderately related to customer loyalty. Therefore, the financial institution must externalize the specific responsibility to specialized external companies.

Resumen Las empresas en el mundo globalizado emplean el outsourcing como modelo productivo, optan por la subcontrata de empresas especializadas en diferentes rubros de trabajo. Bajo este contexto el objetivo de este estudio es determinar la relación entre el outsourcing como modelo productivo y fidelización de clientes de una empresa financiera, para ello se empleó el tipo de investigación aplicada, y diseño descriptivo-correlacional. Se aplicó el cuestionario encuesta para el recojo de datos de las variables y dimensiones. Resultados, se halló que la relación es considerable entre outsourcing y fidelización de Clientes en una empresa financiera, con un coeficiente de correlación τ = 0.628 y p = 0.000, el análisis entre la dimensiones flexibilidad e información fue moderada τ = 0.412 y p = 0.000, entre ahorro de costes y marketing interno moderada τ = 0.487 y p = 0.000, y entre profesionalismo y comunicación considerable τ = 0.535 y p = 0.000, entre calidad de servicio y experiencia del cliente considerable τ = 0.696 y p=0.000. Con estos resultados se concluye que el outsourcing como modelo productivo de la empresa, se relaciona de manera moderada con la fidelización de los clientes. Por ende, la institución financiera, debe exteriorizar la responsabilidad específica a empresas externas especializadas.
