Resumo José Afonso, no Algarve entre 1958 e 1964, procede à renovação da sua obra musical. Esse processo coincide com a campanha presidencial do general Humberto Delgado, candidato da Oposição. As suas atuações passam também a fazer-se nas associações populares. Foi nesse contexto que compôs “Grândola, Vila Morena”. Depois de Moçambique, entre 1964 e 1967, aprofundada a consciência anticolonial, vai residir para Setúbal. Colaborou com todas as forças antifascistas e apesar de frequentemente identificado com o PCP (Partido Comunista Português), mostra-se próximo da esquerda revolucionária. Simpatiza com a LUAR (Liga de Unidade e Acção Revolucionária), criada em 1967, conhecida pelo assalto ao Banco de Portugal na Figueira da Foz. Após o 25 de Abril, solidário com os trabalhadores e as dinâmicas populares de base, internacionalista, entusiasmou-se com o projeto do Poder Popular, traduzido em muitas das suas canções. A LUAR extinguiu-se em 1976, mas José Afonso manteve-se ativista no campo da esquerda revolucionária, ainda que sem envolvimento partidário.

Abstract José Afonso renewed his musical work in Algarve, between 1958 and 1964. This process coincides with the General Humberto Delgado’s presidential campaign, the Opposition candidate. His performances also began to take place in popular associations. He composed “Grândola, Vila Morena” in this context. After Mozambique, between 1964 and 1967, having deepened his anti-colonial awareness, he moved to Setúbal. He collaborated with all anti-fascist forces and despite frequently being identified with the PCP (Partido Comunista Português), he is close to the revolutionary left. He sympathizes with LUAR (Liga de Unidade e Acção Revolucionária), created in 1967, known for the robbery of the Bank of Portugal in Figueira da Foz. After the 25th of April, in solidarity with the workers and grassroots dynamics, internationalist, he was enthusiastic about the Popular Power project, expressed in many of his songs. LUAR ended in 1976, but José Afonso remained an activist in the field of the revolutionary left, although without any party involvement.

RESUMO: O presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a resistência a antibióticos, de 54 cepas nativas de Lactobacillus plantarum isoladas de salames artesanais. A confirmação genotípica da espécie foi realizada por ensaio de PCR multiplex. A resistência aos antibióticos foi avaliada pelos métodos de disco difusão e concentração inibitória mínima. Das 54 cepas, 44 foram confirmadas genotipicamente como L. plantarum e 3 como Lactobacillus pentosus. As maiores frequências de resistência foram para ampicilina e estreptomicina, e as maiores frequências de sensibilidade para tetraciclina, cloranfenicol e penicilina G. Nenhuma das cepas apresentou multirresistência. As frequências de resistência para ampicilina, cloranfenicol, eritromicina e penicilina G foram semelhantes pelos métodos testados (P>0,05). Pesquisas futuras devem ser realizadas para avaliar os mecanismos genéticos envolvidos na resistência fenotípica das cepas de Lactobacillus, no intuito de selecionar as potenciais cepas probióticas para aplicação em produtos cárneos funcionais.

ABSTRACT: The present study aimed to assess the antibiotic resistance in 54 indigenous Lactobacillus plantarum isolated from artisanal fermented sausages. The confirmation of the strain species was performed by multiplex-PCR assay. Antibiotic resistance was assessed by disk diffusion (DD) and Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) methods. Of 54 L. plantarum, 44 strains were genotypically confirmed as L. plantarum and 3 as Lactobacillus pentosus. The highest resistance rates were to ampicillin and streptomycin. The highest susceptibility rates were shown to tetracycline, chloramphenicol and penicillin G. None of the strains showed multidrug resistance. Resistance rates by DD and MIC were not different (P>0.05) for ampicillin, chloramphenicol, erythromycin and penicillin G. Future research should assess the genetic mechanisms underlying the phenotypic resistance in Lactobacillus strains to screen the potential probiotic strains for the development of functional meat products.

Abstract This study proposes a new pure numerical way to model mass / spring / damper devices to control the vibration of truss structures developing large displacements. It avoids the solution of local differential equations present in traditional convolution approaches to solve viscoelasticity. The structure is modeled by the geometrically exact Finite Element Method based on positions. The introduction of the device's mass is made by means of Lagrange multipliers that imposes its movement along the straight line of a finite element. A pure numerical Kelvin/Voigt like rheological model capable of nonlinear large deformations is originally proposed here. It is numerically solved along time to accomplish the damping parameters of the device. Examples are solved to validate the formulation and to show the practical possibilities of the proposed technique

OBJETIVO: Avaliar a prevalência de lombalgia em gestantes, descrever suas principais características e fatores associados. MÉTODOS: Foram incluídas 269 gestantes, do primeiro ao terceiro trimestre de gestação, assistidas em um ambulatório de obstetrícia do Nordeste do Brasil. Aplicou-se um questionário no qual foram registrados dados referentes à variáveis sociodemográficas, história obstétrica e características da dor lombar. Aplicaram-se também os questionários Oswestry e Rolland Morris para avaliar a incapacidade e a escala visual analógica de dor para medir a intensidade da dor. RESULTADOS: A prevalência de dor lombar foi de 73% com o seguinte padrão: "em pontada" (62/31,6%), irradiação (162/82,6%), com frequência diária (105/53,5%), iniciando geralmente no período noturno (83/42,3%) quando também era mais intensa (122/62,2%), com duração em torno de 1 hora em 118 (60,2%). Foi observada melhora com o repouso (100/51%) e piora na posição ortostática ou sentada por longo tempo (86/43,9%) e com atividades domésticas (85/43,4%). Os níveis de incapacidade foram geralmente "leve" e "moderada". As variáveis infecção urinária (p=0,02) e o escore dos questionários Oswestry e Rolland Morris apresentaram associação significante com a escala visual analógica de dor. CONCLUSÃO: A prevalência de dor lombar entre as gestantes é alta, com características variadas. O grau de incapacidade chega a ser moderado e, nesse grupo, a presença de infecção urinária e os maiores escores de incapacidade foram associados a maior intensidade de lombalgia.

PURPOSE: To determine the prevalence of low back pain in pregnant women and to describe its characteristics and associated factors. METHODS: The participants were 269 pregnant women in the first to the third trimester of pregnancy, seen at the obstetrics outpatient clinic of a University Hospital in the Brazilian Northeast. We applied a questionnaire in order to obtain data regarding socio-demographic variables, obstetric history and characteristics of low back pain, as well as the Oswestry and Rolland Morris questionnaires to assess disability and a visual analog pain scale to measure pain intensity. RESULTS: The prevalence of low back pain was 73%, with the following characteristics: stabbing (62/31.6%), irradiation (162/82.6%), of daily frequency (105/53.5%), usually starting at night (83/42.3%) when it was also more intense (122/62.2%), and lasting about 1 hour in 118 women (60.2%). Pain improved with rest (100/51%), worsened when the women stood or sat for a long time (86/43.9%) and when they did housework (85/43.4%). The level of disability ranged from "mild" to "moderate" in most cases. Urinary tract infection (p=0.02) and the scores of the Oswestry and Rolland Morris questionnaires showed significant association with the visual analogue pain scale. CONCLUSION: The prevalence of back pain among pregnant women is high, with varying characteristics. The degree of disability is usually moderate and the presence of urinary infection and higher disability scores were associated with greater intensity of low back pain.

The objective was to evaluate the effect of electrolyte balance in diets with reduced protein for semi-weighted Bovans Goldline laying hens in the second production cycle. The design was completely randomized with five treatments and seven replicates of six birds per experimental unit. Treatment 1 consisted of a control diet containing 165.0 g/kg crude protein (CP), formulated with the addition of DL-methionine to meet birds requirements during the experimental period. To compose the treatments 2-5 (BE149, BE167, BE185 and BE203), a basal diet with reduced protein (135.0 g/kg CP) supplemented with synthetic amino acids DL-methionine, L-lysine, L- threonine, L-valine and L-tryptophan was formulated. This basal diet was supplemented with potassium carbonate, to replace the inert, so as to provide four levels of potassium (5.86, 6.56, 7.26 and 7.96 g/kg) corresponding to the electrolyte balance of 171, 149, 167, 185 and 203 meq/kg, respectively. There was increased linear effect for feed intake and decreasing linear effect for albumen weight and yolk percentage and quadratic effect for conversion per dozen and per egg mass. Crude protein is recommended at 135.0g/kg with 6.77 g/kg potassium and electrolyte balance of 172.51meq/kg in the diet of semi-weighted laying hens in the second production cycle.

O carcinoma colorretal associado à gestação é um acontecimento raro, relacionado a um prognóstico ruim para as mulheres. O caso descrito é de uma paciente, do sexo feminino, de 31 anos, com adenocarcinoma de reto diagnosticado na 24ª semana gestacional. É apresentada uma discussão sobre conduta e atualização de abordagem terapêutica.

Colorectal cancer in pregnancy is a rare condition, associated with a poor prognosis for the woman. The case described is of a 31-year-old female, with an adenocarcinoma of the rectum diagnosed at the 24th week of pregnancy. We present a discuss management in view of updated knowledge and therapeutic approaches.

Esta pesquisa objetivou o desenvolvimento de técnica rápida e eficiente para diagnosticar precocemente diferentes linhagens de S. aureus causadoras de mastite bovina. Como resultados da metodologia empregada, foram isoladas duas linhagens destas bactérias que causam diferentes tipos de mastite bovina. Os fragmentos de DNA genômico caracterizando ambas as linhagens, por meio de RAPD foram inseridos em vetor plasmidial pGEM e clonados por meio de clones T10 F1 de Escherichia coli. As seqüências obtidas permitiram desenhar iniciadores específicos para o reconhecimento de ambas as linhagens, os quais foram testados com amostras de S. aureus e com outras linhagens próximas. O diagnóstico por meios moleculares, pode ser realizado diretamente de amostras coletadas de rebanhos leiteiros assim como dos equipamentos de ordenha. A significância deste estudo consiste em um rápido e acurado método para localizar animais infectados, representando importante ferramenta no manejo do rebanho, na redução de custos com tratamentos e, rápida recuperação de rebanhos infectados.

The aim of this work was to develop a fast and accurate molecular approach to allow early detection of two RAPD groups of S. aureus causing bovine mastitis. Seventy five S. aureus isolates from infected animals were characterized by RAPD. Genomic fragments isolated from the unique bands present in either group were cloned and sequenced. Based on the DNA sequences, specific primers were designed to allow for the simultaneous detection of either group by multiplex PCR of S. aureus DNA isolated from clinical and subclinical bovine mastitis. Results showed that these proposed primers set could be used to detect various clinical and subclinical S. aureus isolates as well as the detection of the microorganism in bulk milk. Their use as a specific method for effective and early diagnostic tool for S. aureus infection in dairy herds is suggested.

O artigo propõe reflexões, à luz da bioética, acerca do dilema da alocação de recursos públicos para a assistência à saúde das pessoas com deficiência no Brasil. Para tanto, o conceito de deficiência e o marco legal brasileiro de assistência às pessoas com deficiência são apresentados; faz-se uma análise sobre a escassez de recursos; discutem-se referenciais teóricos atinentes e destaca-se o aporte da bioética de proteção e da bioética de intervenção. Conclui-se que, em razão de sua vulnerabilidade, as pessoas com deficiência devem ser protegidas pelo Estado e recursos devem ser empregados para garantir seu acesso aos serviços de saúde. Enfatiza-se, também, que apesar da previsão legal já existente, a efetiva destinação de recursos depende de outros fatores, tais como a participação sociopolítica das pessoas com deficiência na " pactuação" das políticas de saúde.

The purpose of this article is to analyze the dilemma of allocation of public funds to the healthcare of people with disabilities in Brazil from a bioethical standpoint. The concept of disability and the legal framework are presented; the question of budgetary constraints and theoretical bioethics references about this issue are discussed; and the role of Bioethics of Protection and Bioethics of Intervention is stressed. It is concluded that, because of their vulnerability, people with disabilities should be protected by the state and funds must be allocated to guarantee their access to healthcare services. However, in spite of the existing legal basis, the actual destination of public funds to people with disabilities still depends on other factors, among others social and political participation of the disabled persons themselves in the negotiation of healthcare policies.

This report describes the transcription apparatus of Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae (strains J and 7448) and Mycoplasma synoviae, using a comparative genomics approach to summarize the main features related to transcription and control of gene expression in mycoplasmas. Most of the transcription-related genes present in the three strains are well conserved among mycoplasmas. Some unique aspects of transcription in mycoplasmas and the scarcity of regulatory proteins in mycoplasma genomes are discussed.
