Abstract Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of different intervals between static stretching for hip adductor, quadriceps and hamstring muscles and resistance training in repetition performance. Method: Twenty-two trained men were submitted to the 10 repetition maximum test and retest for leg extension, leg curl and hip adduction exercises. Three protocols were conducted in a randomized design - PWI: resistance training immediately after static stretching; P15: fifteen-minute rest interval between static stretching and resistance training; P30: thirty-minute rest interval between static stretching and resistance training. Results: The total number of repetition [(sets*repetitions) + exercises] performed under P30 (84.55 ± 1.68) was significantly higher than P15 (79.73 ± 1.89) and PWI (68.09 ± 2.03), respectively. Significant differences were also found between P15 and P30. Conclusions: Therefore, 30-minute interval between static stretching and resistance exercises was needed to achieve greater repetition performance. Thus, static stretching for lower limbs may be avoided before a resistance training session.

Resumo Objetivo: O objetivo deste estudo foi investigar os efeitos de diferentes intervalos entre alongamento estático para os músculos adutores do quadril, quadríceps e isquiotibiais e o treinamento resistido no desempenho de repetições. Método: Vinte e dois homens treinados foram submetidos ao teste de 10 repetições máximas e reteste para os exercícios de extensão, e flexão de joelhos, e de adução do quadril. Três protocolos foram conduzidos em um desenho randomizado: PWI - treinamento resistido imediatamente após o alongamento estático; P15 - intervalo de descanso de 15 minutos entre alongamento estático e o treinamento resistido; P30 - intervalo de descanso de 30 minutos entre alongamento estático e o treinamento resistido. Resultados: O número total de repetição ([séries * repetições] + exercícios) realizada em P30 (84.55 ± 1.68) foi significativamente maior do que o P15 (79.73 ± 1.89) e PWI (68.09 ± 2.03), respectivamente. Diferenças significativas também foram encontradas entre P15 e P30. Conclusões: O intervalo de 30 minutos entre o alongamento estático e o exercício resistido foi necessário para alcançar maior desempenho no número de repetição. Assim, os alongamentos estáticos para membros inferiores podem ser evitados antes de uma sessão treinamento resistido.

Resumen Objetivo: El objetivo de ese estudio fue investigar los efectos de distintas secuencias de estiramiento estático, en los músculos aductores de la cadera, cuádriceps e isquiotibiales y el entrenamiento de resistencia, en el rendimiento en repeticiones. Método: Veintidós hombres entrenados fueron sometidos a la prueba de 10 repeticiones máximas para ejercicios de extensión de piernas, flexión de piernas y aducción de cadera. Tres protocolos fueron realizados utilizando un diseño aleatorio: PSI: entrenamiento de resistencia realizado inmediatamente después del estiramiento estático; P15: intervalo de descanso de 15 minutos entre estiramiento estático y entrenamiento de resistencia; P30: intervalo de descanso de 30 minutos entre estiramiento estático y entrenamiento de resistencia. Resultados: El número total de repeticiones [(sets*repetición) + ejercicio], realizadas en P30 (84.55 ± 1.68) fue significativamente mayor que P15 (79.73 ± 1.89) y PSI (68.09 ± 2.03), respectivamente. También se observaron grandes diferencias entre P15 y P30. Conclusiones: Por lo tanto, se necesitó un intervalo de 30 minutos entre el estiramiento estático y los ejercicios de resistencia para lograr un mayor rendimiento en repeticiones. En este sentido, el estiramiento estático para miembros inferiores puede ser evitado antes de una sesión de entrenamiento de resistencia.

RESUMO A ação residual dos inseticidas imidacloprido/Beta-ciflutrina, clotianidina e clorfenapir foi avaliada para larvas de terceiro ínstar e adultos do predador Cycloneda sanguinea (Linnaeus). Sementes de algodão da cultivar BRS IPÊ foram semeadas em vasos de PVC e as plantas foram mantidas em casa de vegetação. Ao atingirem 25 dias de idade, as plantas foram pulverizadas com os produtos nas menores dosagens recomendadas pelos fabricantes, utilizando-se pulverizador manual. As concentrações foram em g i.a.L-1 de água: imidacloprido/Beta-ciflutrina (100/12,5 SC -0,25/0,03), clotianidina (500 PM – 0,33) e clorfenapir (240 SC – 0,80). Água destilada foi utilizada como testemunha. Folhas previamente marcadas em cada planta, de cada tratamento, foram retiradas e levadas ao laboratório e colocadas em placas de Petri contendo solução de ágar bacteriológico. Ovos de Anagasta kuehniella (Zeller) foram colocados sobre as folhas de algodoeiro e, em seguida, liberou-se um espécime por placa. As liberações ocorreram após 1, 12, 23 e 35 dias da pulverização dos compostos. Cada placa de Petri foi imediatamente vedada com filme de plástico PVC. O delineamento foi inteiramente casualizado com quatro tratamentos e doze repetições sendo que, para os testes com larvas, cada parcela foi formada por três espécimes e, para aqueles com adultos, cada repetição correspondeu a um casal. As avaliações de mortalidade foram feitas após 12, 24 e 48 horas das liberações. Os produtos foram classificados de acordo com o proposto pela Organização Internacional para Controle Biológico (IOBC). Todos os produtos foram enquadrados na classe 4 = persistentes, visto que mesmo a partir do trigésimo dia após sua aplicação causaram mais de 30,0% de mortalidade dos predadores.

ABSTRACT The residual action of the insecticides imidacloprid/Beta-cyfluthrin, clothianidin and chlorfenapyr was evaluated in regard to third-instar larvae and adults of the predator Cycloneda sanguinea (Linnaeus). Cotton seeds of the cultivar BRS IPÊ were sowed in PVC pots and the plants were maintained in the greenhouse. Upon reaching 25 days of age, the plants were sprayed with the lowest dosages of the products recommended by the manufacturers, using a manual sprayer. The insecticides evaluated in g a.i.L-1 of water were imidacloprid/Beta-cyfluthrin (Imidacloprido/Beta-ciflutrina 100/12.5 CS – 0.25/0.03), clothianidin (Clotianidina 500 WP – 0.33) and chlorfenapyr (Clorfenapir 240 CS0.80). Distilled water was used as a control. Previously marked leaves, from each treatment, were removed from the plants and taken to the laboratory where they were placed in Petri dishes containing bacteriologic agar solution. Eggs of Anagasta kuehniella (Zeller) were placed on cotton leaves following the release of a Trichogramma specimen per dish after 1, 12, 23 and 35 days from pesticides application. Each Petri dish was immediately closed with plastic PVC film. A completely randomized experimental design was used, with 4 treatments and 12 replicates, each one formed by 3 third-instar larvae or 1 couple of adults. The number of dead larvae and adults in each treatment was examined 12, 24 and 48 hours after exposure to the chemicals. The products were classified according to categories proposed by the International Organization for Biological Control (IOBC). All the compounds tested were evaluated as class 4 = persistent, causing mortality above 30% up to 31 days after application on cotton leaves.

We encapsulated cisplatin into stealth pH-sensitive liposomes and studied their stability, cytotoxicity and accumulation in a human small-cell lung carcinoma cell line (GLC4) and its resistant subline (GLC4/CDDP). Since reduced cellular drug accumulation has been shown to be the main mechanism responsible for resistance in the GLC4/CDDP subline, we evaluated the ability of this new delivery system to improve cellular uptake. The liposomes were composed of dioleoylphosphatidylethanolamine (DOPE), cholesteryl hemisuccinate (CHEMS), and distearoylphosphatidylethanolamine-polyethyleneglycol 2000 (DSPE-PEG2000) and were characterized by determining the encapsulation percentage as a function of lipid concentration. Among the different formulations, DOPE/CHEMS/DSPE-PEG liposomes (lipid concentration equal to 40 mM) encapsulated cisplatin more efficiently than other concentrations of liposomes (about 20.0%, mean diameter of 174 nm). These liposomes presented good stability in mouse plasma which was obtained using a 0.24-M EDTA solution (70% cisplatin was retained inside the liposomes after 30 min of incubation). Concerning cytotoxic effects, they are more effective (1.34-fold) than free cisplatin for growth inhibition of the human lung cancer cell line A549. The study of cytotoxicity to GLC4 and GLC4/CDDP cell lines showed similar IC50 values (approximately 1.4 µM), i.e., cisplatin-resistant cells were sensitive to this cisplatin formulation. Platinum accumulation in both sensitive and resistant cell lines followed the same pattern, i.e., approximately the same intracellular platinum concentration (4.0 x 10-17 mol/cell) yielded the same cytotoxic effect. These results indicate that long-circulating pH-sensitive liposomes, also termed as stealth pH-sensitive liposomes, may present a promising delivery system for cisplatin-based cancer treatment. This liposome system proved to be able to circumvent the cisplatin resistance, whereas it was not observed when using non-long-circulating liposomes composed of phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylserine, and cholesterol.

Realizou-se a caracterização físico-química da amêndoa da castanha de caju (Anacardium occidentale L.) crua e tostada, identificando-se as alterações provocadas pelo processo de tostagem. As amêndoas da castanha de caju crua e tostada apresentaram pH próximos à neutralidade. A composição centesimal da amêndoa crua apresentou os seguintes teores: umidade - 5,05 %, cinzas - 2,40 %, proteínas - 22,11 %, lipídios - 46,28 %, açúcares totais - 7,93 % e amido - 16,07 %. Para a amêndoa tostada os resultados foram: umidade - 1,18 %, cinzas - 2,43 %, proteínas - 21,76 %, lipídios - 48,35 %, açúcares totais - 8,23 % e amido - 17,30 %. A comparação destes resultados foi significativamente diferente nos níveis de lipídios, açúcares totais e amido, possivelmente em conseqüência da perda de água durante o processo de tostagem, pois quando estes foram comparados na base seca, os resultados passaram a não ter diferenças estatísticas.

The purpose of this work was to evaluate the quality of the raw and toasted cashew nuts, identifying the changes that took place during the toasting process. The raw and toasted cashew nut showed pH near neutrality. The chemical composition of the raw cashew nut showed the following values: moisture - 5,05 %; ash - 2,40 %; protein - 22,11 %; lipids - 46,28 %; total sugar - 7,93 % and starch - 16,07 %. The toasted nut results were: moisture - 1,18 %; ash - 2,43 %; protein - 21,76 %; lipids - 48,35 %; total sugar - 8,23 % and starch - 17,30 %. The comparison of these values were significantly different for the levels of lipids, total sugars and starch, possibly due to the loss of water, during the toasting process, since when they were compared on dry matter basis, the results did not present differences.
