Resumo Este artigo quer intervir na discussão sobre as políticas e estratégias indígenas dos contatos a partir de um contexto concreto: o dos aldeamentos de grupos ‘Cayapó’, em Goiás, entre 1781 e 1832. Com base na análise de parte de uma documentação histórica para o período, é proposto que a aparente conversão esconde processos nos quais atuaram não apenas mudanças, mas continuidades e criações. Se o choque do contato era historicamente inevitável, a política dos indígenas durante o período dos aldeamentos mostrou como esses grupos agiram entre as necessidades das circunstâncias e as contingências das escolhas. Por isso, no diálogo entre a Antropologia e a História, o artigo pretende mostrar como essa história indígena desenhou diferentes rotas e linhas de ação.

Abstract This essay addresses the discussion on indigenous politics and contact strategies from a concrete context: settlements of Kayapo groups in Goiás between 1781 and 1832. Historical documentation from the period suggests that apparent conversion hides processes involving not only changes, but also continuities and creations. While the shock of contact was historically inevitable, indigenous politics during the settlement period showed how these groups acted, between the needs of the circumstances and the contingencies of their choices. As such, in the dialogue between anthropology and history, this article demonstrates how this indigenous history traced different routes and lines of action.

Resumo Este ensaio quer intervir no tema das guerras dos Jê - Cayapó’ meridionais- no século XVIII com vistas a mostrar como esses grupos incorporaram de maneira diferencial os inimigos e seus bens no contexto histórico dos contatos. A partir da análise de documentos referentes à região hoje conhecida como sul de Goiás, Triângulo Mineiro e norte de São Paulo, o artigo dialoga com a Antropologia e a História e pretende mostrar que, por meio das guerras de saque, esses grupos indígenas colocaram em ação simultânea diferentes avaliações simbólicas e incorporações políticas de suas alteridades.

Abstract This papper aims to intervene in the matter of the southern ‘Cayapó’- wars in the eighteenth century to show how these groups differentially incorporated enemies and their goods into the historical context of contacts. Based on an analysis of documents referring to the region known today as south of Goiás, Triângulo Mineiro and north of São Paulo, the papper dialogues with Anthropology and History and intends to show that, by means of the wars of loot, these indigenous groups put into simultaneous action different symbolic evaluations and political incorporations of their alterities.

O artigo busca resgatar parte da ocupação indígena e quilombola dos sertões das minas no segundo e terceiro quartos do século XVIII, com vistas a um mapeamento dos encontros e intersecções culturais entre esses dois coletivos. Com base na perspectiva antropológica da alteridade é realizada a análise de uma documentação histórica disponível para os atuais oeste de Minas Gerais, Triângulo Mineiro e sul de Goiás, que permite propor que as culturas e identidades coletivas de “gentios” e “calhambolas” estivessem se reelaborando num contexto de negociações e conflitos entre diferentes sujeitos históricos.

The paper looks for a rescue of the indigenous and quilombola occupation of the backwoods the mines in the second and third quarters of eighteenth century, with views to mapping of cultural encounters and intersections between the two collectives. Based in the anthropological perspective of the otherness is performed the analysis of historical documentation available for the current western Minas Gerais, Triângulo Mineiro e south of Goiás, allowing propose that cultures and collectives identity of “gentios” e “calhambolas” if they were reworking in the context of negotiations and conflicts between different historical subjects.
