Resumo Introdução: Os efeitos do taping patelar de McConnell (TPM) para o controle postural de mulheres com síndrome da dor patelofemoral (SDPF) são controversos. Objetivo: Avaliar os efeitos do TPM no controle postural estático unipodal e agachamento unipodal em mulheres com SDPF. Método: O estudo é um ensaio clínico randomizado-cego, que avaliou 40 mulheres com SDPF, e idade entre 18 e 35 anos. A amostra foi randomizada em dois grupos: grupo taping patelar de McConnell (GTPM) e grupo placebo (GP). Avaliou-se o controle postural em apoio estático e agachamento unipodal, no membro inferior com SDPF. O deslocamento do centro de pressão (CoP) foi registrado por plataforma de força, e analisado com os testes ANOVA two way e tamanho do efeito (Cohen’s d). Resultados: O controle postural estático não apontou diferenças significativas entre os grupos, tempos ou interação (P> 0,05); com pequeno tamanho de efeito. O controle postural em agachamento unipodal apresentou menor oscilação do centro de pressão para os dois grupos, com diferenças significativas em relação ao tempo de intervenção. No entanto, somente o GTPM demonstrou grande tamanho de efeito na frequência de oscilação e médio tamanho de efeito na velocidade de oscilação, durante o agachamento unipodal. Conclusão: O TPM e o placebo melhoraram o controle postural durante o agachamento unipodal. Deve-se observar que as mudanças e os tamanhos de efeito determinados para o GTPM foram significativamente maiores em relação ao GP, enfatizando sua importância clínica no tratamento de indivíduos com SDPF, durante atividades dinâmicas.

Abstract Introduction: The effects of McConnell patellar taping on the postural control of women with patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS) are controversial. Objective: To evaluate the effects of McConnell patellar taping on the static one-leg stance postural control and during squatting in women with PFPS. Method: A randomized, blinded clinical trial that comprised 40 women with PFPS, aged between 18 and 35 years. The study sample was allocated to two groups: McConnell patellar taping group (MPTG) and Placebo taping group (PTG). The analysis included the one-leg static support and squat on the lower limb with PFPS. The center of pressure (CoP) displacement parameters recorded by a force platform were analyzed using two-way ANOVA and Cohen’s d. Results: For the static postural control, no significant differences were found between the groups in terms of time or interaction (p>0.05); with small effect size. For the postural control during the one-leg squat, significant differences were found regarding the time of intervention for both groups, with reduced CoP parameters after the application of taping. However, the MPTG demonstrated a large effect size in frequency of oscillation and medium effect size in speed of oscillation, both during the squat exercise. Conclusion: McConnell patellar taping and placebo taping improved postural control during the one-leg squat. It should be observed that the changes and effect sizes determined for the MPTG were significantly higher compared to the PTG, emphasizing its clinical importance in the treatment of individuals with PFPS, during dynamic activities.

Resumo O proposito desta pesquisa é de analisar a aderência da norma NBR ISO 14001 ao código das melhores práticas de governança corporativa do IBGC. A perspectiva estabelecida na investigação interpreta a existência de sinergia entre a gestão apoiada na norma de Sistemas de Gestão Ambiental e o Código de melhores práticas de Governança Corporativa. A pesquisa analisou o conteúdo de 177 relatórios de auditorias ambientais, realizados por uma empresa de certificação, que envolvem um conjunto de 139 empresas certificadas pela norma NBR ISO 14001. Na sequência, se relacionou os requisitos do sistema de gestão ambiental com os elementos presentes no código das melhores práticas do Instituto Brasileiro de Governança Corporativa IBGC. Identificou-se a aderência de vários requisitos em comum entre os dois sistemas analisados, indicando assim a adequação de se estabelecer sinergia de ações, e de informações entre ambos, estabelecendo benefícios a organização. Os dados das auditorias ambientais indicam que as empresas apresentam maior dificuldade em atender itens relacionados ao controle operacional, a preparação ao atendimento a emergências, e avaliação de atendimento aos requisitos legais e outros. informações importantes no contexto da governança corporativa, por indicar potenciais riscos que devem ser eliminados, a fim de garantir a perenidade da organização.

Abstract The purpose of this research is to analyze the adherence of the NBR ISO 14001 standard to the Brazilian Institute of Corporate Governance Code of Best Corporate Governance Practices. The perspective established in the research interprets the existence of synergy between management supported by the Environmental Management Systems standard and the Code of Best Corporate Governance Practices. The research analyzed the contents of 177 environmental audit reports, performed by a certification company, which involved a set of 139 companies certified by NBR ISO 14001. It then related the requirements of the environmental management system with the elements present in the IBGC code. It identified the adherence to several requirements in common between the two systems analyzed, thus indicating the adequacy of establishing synergy in actions, and in the information held by both, providing benefits to the organization. Environmental auditing data indicate that companies have more difficult-to-handle items related to operational control, emergency preparedness and assessment of compliance with legal and other requirements. This is important information in the context of corporate governance, since it indicates potential risks that must be eliminated in order to guarantee the perenniality of the organization.

Abstract Background: Brazil is the worldwide leader in the long-term use of pesticides and herbicides. This compromises the health of handlers by causing harmful neurological, respiratory, and cardiovascular changes. The herbicide 2.4D has been shown to cause cardiac overload with subsequent pathological remodeling. Objective: To analyze the cardiac morphological repercussions on the left ventricle (LV) of mice submitted to nebulization by the herbicide 2.4D. Methods: Fifteen mice were divided into three groups: control group (CG; n = 5) exposed to nebulization with sodium chloride solution; low concentration group (LCG; n = 5) exposed to nebulization of the herbicide 2.4D with 3.71 x 10-3 grams; and high concentration group (HCG; n = 5) exposed to nebulization of the herbicide 2.4D with 9.28 x 10-3 grams for 15 minutes. The fractal dimension analysis was performed through the box-counting method. Later, the ImageJ program was used to calculate the fractal dimension of each group. To evaluate cardiac remodeling, histological slides were prepared and stained with Hematoxylin-Eosin (HE). Fifty areas of cardiomyocytes were analyzed per animal. The comparisons between groups were performed by ANOVA One-Way with Tukey’s posttest (p < 0.05). Results: There was no change in fractal dimension values between the CG = 1.37 ± 0.02, LCG = 1.33 ± 0.04 and the HCG = 1.33 ± 0.07 groups. However, cardiac hypertrophy occurred in the HCG = 303.9 ± 38.80 µm(2) when compared to the CG group = 236.9 ± 61.71 µm(2) (p = 0.034). Conclusion: The herbicide 2.4D used for 72 hours did not promote cardiotoxicity when evaluated by fractal dimension. However, cardiomyocyte hypertrophy was observed in the LV.

ABSTRACT Mimosa scabrella Bentham (bracatinga) is a prominent forest species in the south of the country, due mainly to the high rate of increase, rapid development cycle, and to enable multiple uses of wood production, both for firewood and for more noble purposes. The aim of this work was to estimate the physiological variation among 40 mother trees, based on germinative and biometric characterization of seeds and seedlings. Biometric traits were determined for the size and the fresh mass of 100 seeds, percentage of germination and normal seedlings, germination velocity index, daily mean germination, length, and dry mass of seedlings. Means were compared by the Scott-Knott test at 1% probability and estimates of Pearson correlation coefficients were obtained between all traits. The results indicate the existence of significant variation between arrays of same or different origin for both the biometric features as those from the germination test. The physiological quality of the seeds showed no direct relation to its size.

ABSTRACT Objective: to evaluate and to identify the areas affected in the quality of life, to correlate with the care overload and the emotional discomfort of adult patients with hematologic cancer submitted to the hematopoietic stem-cell transplant. Method: cross-sectional and retrospective study carried out with 59 main caretakers of patients submitted to this treatment modality. The sociodemographic profile was characterized and the life quality assessment (Medical Outcomes 36 Study - Item Shorts Form Health Survey), emotional discomfort assessment (Self Reporting Questionnaire) and the care overload (Zarit Burden Interview) questionnaires were applied. Results: the participants were predominantly female, married and with high school education level. In the life quality assessment, the correlation between the Functional Capacity and Pain, and between the Emotional Aspects and Mental Health was observed. The highest score presented by the emotional discomfort was not significant. In relation to the care overload, the greatest frequency was between moderate and moderate to serious overload. Conclusion: the life quality of these patients’ main caretakers is harmed in different areas and the care overload is significant; it is suggested that the main caretakers of the patient who undergoes a hematopoietic stem-cell transplant is also the focus of the multiprofessional team that assists the transplanted patient aiming at promoting the quality improvement in both lives.

RESUMEN Objetivo: evaluar e identificar los dominios afectados en la cualidad de vida, correlacionarla con la sobrecarga del cuidado y el desánimo emocional de los cuidadores principales de pacientes adultos con cáncer hematológico sometidos a un trasplante de células-tronco hematopoyéticas. Método: estudio transversal y retrospectivo realizado con 59 cuidadores principales de pacientes sometidos a esta modalidad de tratamiento. Se caracterizó el perfil sociodemográfico y se aplicó el cuestionario de evaluación de cualidad de vida (Medical Outcomes Study 36 - Item Short Form Health Survey), evaluación del desánimo emocional (Self Reporting Questionnaire) y de la sobrecarga del cuidado (Zarit Burden Interview). Resultados: los participantes fueron, predominantemente, cuidadores principales del sexo femenino, cónyuges y con nivel secundario de escolaridad. En la evaluación de la cualidad de vida se observó la correlación entre la Capacidad Funcional y el Dolor, entre Aspectos Emocionales y de Salud Mental. El mayor resultado presentado por el desánimo emocional no fue significativo. En relación a la sobrecarga del cuidado, la mayor frecuencia se dio entre la sobrecarga moderada y de moderada a grave. Conclusión: la cualidad de vida de los cuidadores principales de estos pacientes es perjudicada en diferentes dominios y la sobrecarga del cuidado es significativa. Se sugiere que los cuidadores principales del paciente que realiza el trasplante de células-tronco hematopoyéticas sean considerados también por el equipo multiprofesional que atiende al trasplantado con el objetivo de promover la mejoría de la cualidad de vida de ambos.

Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar o efeito de diferentes temperaturas, tempo de armazenamento e tratamentos pré-germinativos na quebra de dormência de sementes da leguminosa Mimosa scabrella Benth. O trabalho foi realizado na Universidade do Estado de Santa Catarina, Lages. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o inteiramente casualizado, e as análises de variância foram efetuadas sob o esquema fatorial 2×2×7 (duas temperaturas, dois períodos de armazenamento e sete tratamentos pré-germinativos). A comparação de médias foi feita pelo teste de Scott-knott, a 5% de probabilidade. As temperaturas testadas foram constantes de 25 e 30 ºC, os períodos de armazenamento foram de zero e oito meses de armazenamento e o tratamento pré-germinativo consistiu em imersão em água a 80 ºC por períodos de 3, 6, 9, 12, 15 e 18 horas. Os resultados obtidos evidenciaram maior porcentagem de germinação das sementes de bracatinga na temperatura de 30 ºC, com tratamento pré-germinativo de imersão em água a 80 °C, com posterior permanência durante 3 horas, independente do armazenamento.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of temperature, storage time and pre-germination treatments in the germination of Mimosa scabrella Benth seeds. The study was conducted at the University of the State of Santa Catarina, Lages. The experimental design was completely randomized, and analysis of variance was performed under the factorial 2×2×7 (two temperatures, two periods of storage, and seven pre-germination treatments). The average values were compared by Scott-Knott test at 5% probability. The temperatures employed were 25 and 30°C, the storage periods were eight months and no storage and pre-germination treatments were immersion in water at 80°C for periods of 3, 6, 9, 12, 15 and 18 hours. The results showed higher germination of seeds bracatinga in temperature 30°C, regardless of storage, and immersion for 3 hours in water at 80°C.

Resumo Objetivo Analisar as ocorrências de acidentes atendidos no pronto-socorro pediátrico de um hospital público. Métodos Trata-se de uma pesquisa transversal, descritiva e correlacional sobre a ocorrência de acidentes em crianças e adolescentes, identificados no momento do atendimento em um pronto-socorro pediátrico no Município de São José dos Campos. A amostra inicial foi de 2.440 registros de atendimentos, mas foi reduzida para 2.421, porque em 16 casos houve a suspeita de violência e em três não foi possível localizar os dados. O preenchimento do instrumento de coleta de dados foi realizado por meio de dados registrados na ficha de atendimento da unidade. O período de coleta foi de 01 de setembro a 31 de dezembro de 2013. Os critérios de inclusão foram: ser criança ou adolescente de 0 a 13 anos de idade; ser atendidos por acidentes, no pronto-atendimento do referido hospital no período do estudo. O critério de exclusão foi ter sido atendido no referido pronto-atendimento devido a outras causas no período do estudo. Resultados Os acidentes corresponderam a 12,1% do atendimento; predominância do sexo masculino (62,5%); faixa etária mais acometida foi a de 10 a 13 (33,6%). O tipo de acidente mais frequente foi queda (48,7%). A parte do corpo acometida, em crianças de até um ano, foi o segmento cefálico/pescoço (75,0%), nos adolescentes, foram membros superiores (MMSS) e inferiores (MMII) com aproximadamente 30,0%. Os principais procedimentos intra-hospitalares foram: Raio-X (67,6%), avaliação de especialista (52,7%); imobilização ortopédica (25,9%). Alta foi o desfecho mais ocorrido (84,0%), seguido por observação (10,5%), internação (4,2%) e um óbito. Conclusão acidentes tiveram alta incidência, acarretando impacto para a população e setor saúde, incluindo elevação do número de atendimentos e, por consequência, do custo, além de incalculáveis reflexos emocionais.

Methods This was a cross-sectional, descriptive, and correlational study on the occurrence of accidents among children and adolescents identified during care delivery in a pediatric emergency room in the municipality of São José dos Campos. The initial sample included 2440 recorded cases, but the sample sized was reduced to 2,421 because 16 cases were suspected of a violent cause and 3 cases were missing data. The data collection instrument was completed by data registration in the unit using a care form. Data were collected from September 01 to December 31, 2013. Inclusion criteria were children and adolescents aged 0 to 13 years with an accident-related admission to the emergency room at the hospital where the study was carried out. We excluded those who were assisted in the emergency room for any other reason during the study period. Results Accidents corresponded to 12.1% of instances of care delivered. A majority occurred in boys (62.5%); participants’ ages ranged from 0 to 13 years (33.6%). Falls were the most frequent type of accident (48.7%). The body part most affected in children up to 1 year of age was cephalic/neck (75.0%); among adolescents, the most affected body parts were the upper limbs and lower limbs (approximately 30% occurrence). Main in-hospital procedures were radiography (67.6%), evaluation by a specialist (52.7%), and orthopedic splinting (25.9%). Discharge was the most common endpoint (84.0%), followed by observation (10.5%), hospitalization (4.2%), and death (one patient). Conclusion Accidents had a higher incidence and had an impact on the population and health sector of the municipality, including an increase in the number of instances of care and, consequently, in cost, in addition to the incalculable emotional impact.

ABSTRACT Objective To evaluate the perception of nursing staff regarding the safety climate among healthcare professionals from public and private institutions. Method This is a cross-sectional, quantitative study conducted with 235 nursing professionals from a private hospital and a public hospital in Campinas, between October 2014 and October 2015. The Safety Attitudes Questionnaire – Short Form was used to collect data. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used for analysis, and the Mann-Whitney test was used to compare the institutions. Results The private institution had higher averages than the public institution, and significant differences in the areas of safety climate (p=0.00), unit management (p<0.0001), hospital management (p=<0.0001), working conditions (p=<0.0001), and teamwork (p=0.00). Conclusion Although the private institution performed better, the professionals perceived the safety climate as unsatisfactory in both institutions.

RESUMEN Objetivo Evaluar la percepción del equipo de enfermería sobre el clima de seguridad que permea la asistencia entre los profesionales de instituciones públicas y privadas. Método Estudio cuantitativo, transversal, desarrollado con 235 profesionales de enfermería de un hospital privado y uno público en la región de Campinas entre octubre de 2014 y octubre de 2015. Para la recolección se utilizó el Cuestionario Actitudes de Seguridad – Short Form. En el análisis, se utilizaron estadísticas descriptivas y inferenciales, con realización de la prueba de Mann Whitney para comparar las instituciones. Resultados La institución privada presentó promedios superiores a los de la pública, con diferencias significativas en las áreas de seguridad (p=0,00), gestión de la unidad (p <0,0001), gestión del hospital (p <0,0001), condiciones de trabajo (p <0,0001) y trabajo en equipo (p = 0,00). Conclusión Aunque la institución privada mostró un mejor desempeño, el clima de seguridad percibido por los profesionales fue considerado insatisfactorio en ambas instituciones.

ABSTRACT Objective To evaluate the perception of nursing staff regarding the safety climate among healthcare professionals from public and private institutions. Method This is a cross-sectional, quantitative study conducted with 235 nursing professionals from a private hospital and a public hospital in Campinas, between October 2014 and October 2015. The Safety Attitudes Questionnaire – Short Form was used to collect data. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used for analysis, and the Mann-Whitney test was used to compare the institutions. Results The private institution had higher averages than the public institution, and significant differences in the areas of safety climate (p=0.00), unit management (p<0.0001), hospital management (p=<0.0001), working conditions (p=<0.0001), and teamwork (p=0.00). Conclusion Although the private institution performed better, the professionals perceived the safety climate as unsatisfactory in both institutions.

Cet article analyse les conflits armés et la protection du droit des minorités qui en découle tout en faisant attention au cas du Liban, dans le but de déterminer comment ont été données les conditions qui ont entraîné la création d'un tribunal spéciale pour juger les actes considérés comme illicites pendant la guerre civile de ce pays. L'objectif est, par conséquent, l'étude de l'action et du démarrage d'un système juridictionnel spécifique qui utilise des procédures inhabituels aux autres tribunaux internationaux spéciaux. En plus, on prétend établir les prémisses nécessaires à la compréhension des faits relatifs aux minorités, particulièrement, à partir d'une conception relative au droit international. Une telle méthodologie sauve le caractère fragmenté des normes et de l'institutionalité constatée dans la production de leurs applications internationales.

This article deals with the analysis of conflict and thereby protecting the rights of minorities, analyzing in particular the case of Lebanon, so how it determined the conditions and assumptions regarding the creation of a Special Court for judge the acts considered unlawful perpetrated during the civil war in that country. The aim, therefore, refers to the performance and operation of a specific court procedures and tried modes other than ad hoc international tribunals. This article also seeks to establish the conditions required for the understanding of minorities and the respective treatment under international law. The methodology used for the elaboration of the work focused on the main aspects for an investigation established international law, especially due to the fragmented nature of the regulations and institutions observed in the production and application of international law. It used the inductive and historical methods that helped analyze the evolution of international law on the rights of minorities, particularly from an international legal concept.

El presente artículo analiza los conflictos armados y la consiguiente protección del derecho de las minorías, prestando especial atención al caso del Líbano, a fin de determinar cómo se dieron las condiciones que condujeron a la creación de un tribunal especial para juzgar los actos considerados como ilícitos durante la guerra civil perpetrada en el país mencionado. El objetivo, por tanto, es el estudio de la actuación y puesta en marcha de un sistema jurisdiccional específico que utilizó procedimientos distintos a los habituales de otros tribunales internacionales especiales. También se pretende establecer las premisas necesarias para la comprensión de los supuestos relativos a las minorías y el respectivo tratamiento por el derecho internacional. Para el presente trabajo se utilizaron los métodos inductivos e históricos que permitieron analizar la evolución de la normativa internacional relativa al derecho de las minorías, particularmente, a partir de una concepción jusinternacionalista. Tal metodología salva el carácter fragmentado de la normativa e institucionalidad constatada en la producción y aplicación de normas internacionales.

Consumers have two types of expectation about a service: a desired level and a perceived level. Considering the contribution of tourism to generate employment and revenue the goal of this study is to identify the degree of consumers’ satisfaction with hotel services and discuss its strategic implications. A survey was conducted with 407 customers of hotels in the Midwest of Brazil. The study employed the SERVQUAL framework with five attribute dimensions (tangibility, reliability, responsiveness, assurance and empathy) in order to confront expectations and performance. Next, the study used the Albrecht and Bradford's service attribute matrix, according to perceived satisfaction, which proposes five areas of positioning attributes (vulnerability competitive, competitive strength, relative indifference, superiority irrelevant and gray area).. The consumers’ profile analysis yielded the level of satisfaction and, the identification of the variables and dimensions that should receive greater attention and investment by the hotels. The results demonstrated that the attributes with low performance were "security" and "food service". Attributes such as "courtesy", "responsiveness", "efficiency and expertise of the staff", "accommodation" and "personal attention" represent the competitive strength of the hotel chain. Therefore to achieve excellence and increase market share, the hotels should keep training the employees, deepen the understanding about the target and constantly invest in new management techniques to increase consumer satisfaction.

Los consumidores posee dos tipos de expectativas sobre un servicio: el nivel deseado y el nivel percibido. Considerando la contribución de la actividad turística a la generación de empleo e ingreso, el objetivo de este estudio es identificar el grado de satisfacción del consumidor de servicios hoteleros y discutir las consecuentes implicaciones estratégicas. El estudio se caracteriza por ser cuantitativo-descriptivo. Se utilizó una muestra probabilística de 407 usuarios de hoteles en una capital del Centro-Oeste de Brasil. El modelo teórico adoptado fue el SERVQUAL con sus cinco dimensiones de atributos (tangibilidad, confiabilidad, atención, seguridad y empatía), de modo de confrontar expectativas y desempeño. Luego, se utilizó la Matriz de los Atributos de Servicios de Albrecht &; Bradford, que presenta cinco zonas de posicionamiento de los atributos (vulnerabilidad competitiva, fuerza competitiva, relativa indiferencia, superioridad irrelevante y zona gris) según la satisfacción percibida. El análisis del perfil de los consumidores permitió identificar no sólo el nivel de satisfacción, sino también las variables y dimensiones que deben recibir mayor atención e inversiones por parte de los hoteles. Los resultados indican que los atributos que presentaron bajo desempeño fueron "seguridad" y "servicios de alimentación" (restaurante). Para los consumidores, atributos como cortesía, agilidad, eficiencia y conocimiento de los empleados, hospedaje (habitaciones) y atención personalizada representan la fuerza competitiva de la red hotelera. De ese modo, para adquirir excelencia y ganar participación en el mercado, los hoteles deben capacitar aún más a los empleados, conocer su público con mayor profundidad e invertir constantemente en nuevas técnicas de gestión con el fin de incrementar la satisfacción de los consumidores.

INTRODUÇÃO: Crioterapia é qualquer forma de aplicação terapêutica de frio que leva à diminuição da temperatura dos tecidos. OBJETIVO: Comparar as variações na temperatura superficial do músculo quadríceps femoral, em três momentos distintos, quando expostos a duas modalidades de crioterapia: sacos com gelo ou sacos contendo mistura de gelo e água. MATERIAIS E MÉTODOS: Participaram do estudo 18 indivíduos, com idade entre 18 e 25 anos, de ambos os sexos. Em cada voluntário foi realizada, simultaneamente, crioterapia com gelo na coxa esquerda e mistura de gelo e água na coxa direita, durante 15 minutos na região do quadríceps femoral. A temperatura superficial foi mensurada por um termógrafo e foram feitos registros nos seguintes momentos: pré-crioterapia, imediatamente e 15 e 30 minutos após a retirada da modalidade de crioterapia. RESULTADOS: Ambas as modalidades de crioterapia foram eficientes para diminuir a temperatura do quadríceps femoral e a mistura de gelo e água foi capaz de induzir a uma temperatura mais baixa em relação àquela modalidade que usou somente gelo. O resfriamento, para ambas as modalidades, perdurou por, pelo menos, 15 minutos após a retirada do gelo e a temperatura superficial já estava restaurada ao nível pré-aplicação aos 30 minutos após a retirada. CONCLUSÃO: Ambas as modalidades promoveram redução da temperatura que perdurou, pelo menos, durante 15 minutos; e após 30 minutos da retirada das modalidades a temperatura foi restabelecida aos níveis normais. Contudo, a mistura de gelo e água produziu resfriamento maior do que a modalidade de gelo sozinho.

INTRODUCTION: Cryotherapy is any form of therapeutic application of cold which decreases the temperature of tissues. OBJECTIVE: To compare the variations in surface temperature of the quadriceps muscle at three different times when exposed to two forms of cryotherapy: ice bags or bags containing a mixture of ice and water. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study involved 18 subjects, aged between 18 and 25 years, of both sexes. In each volunteer, ice cryotherapy on the left thigh and a mixture of ice and water on the right thigh was simultaneously applied for 15 minutes to the quadriceps femoris region. The temperature was measured by a thermograph and the following moments were recorded : before cryotherapy, immediately and 5 and 30 minutes after removal of the modality of cryotherapy. RESULTS: Both cryotherapy methods were effective to decrease the temperature of the quadriceps and the mixture of ice and water was able to induce a lower temperature compared to the modality which used ice only. The cooling for both modalities lasted for at least 15 minutes after the removal of ice and surface temperature had been restored at pre application 30 minutes after removal. CONCLUSION: Both methods promoted a reduction in temperature that lasted at least 15 minutes, and 30 minutes after the withdrawal the temperature was reestablished to normal levels. However, the mixture of ice and water produced cooling more remarkable than the ice alone.
