Abstract Because of the lack of agronomic information regarding cultivation of the pink pepper (Schinus terebinthifolius), this study aimed to verify the effect of gypsum and phosphorus on the initial growth and how they affect soil fertility. The treatments consisted of four levels of agricultural gypsum (0; 750; 1,500, and 2,250 mg kg-1) and P2O5 (0; 41.7; 83.4, and 125.1 mg kg-1), with a 4 × 4 factorial arrangement, in a completely randomized design with four replications. Morphological variables and nutritional content taken at 165 days after transplant were shown to be adequate to assess the initial growth and to show their nutritional requirements, indicating that plants are responsive to phosphorus. The association of higher gypsum and P2O5 levels promoted higher plant vigor and their application to the soil increased the availability of calcium, phosphorus, and base saturation.

Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar o efeito do consórcio de milho safrinha com Urochloa brizantha 'Marandu' e de fontes de nitrogênio nas frações granulométricas da matéria orgânica do solo em sistema plantio direto. Os tratamentos foram dispostos em arranjo fatorial 2x4 - dois tipos de cultivo de milho (com ou sem pasto) e quatro fontes de nitrogênio (sem nitrogênio, ureia, sulfato de amônio+ureia e sulfato de amônio) -, em blocos ao acaso, com quatro repetições. O experimento foi conduzido de 2005 a 2013. As coletas do solo foram realizadas em 2013, após a colheita do milho no outono/inverno, em quatro profundidades: 0-5, 5-10, 10-20 e 20-40 cm. Foram determinados os teores de carbono orgânico total (COT), lábil (CL), particulado (COP) e mineral (COM). O consórcio de milho com U. brizantha 'Marandu' resulta em maior teor de COT, CL e COP do que o cultivo de milho solteiro no outono/inverno. O sulfato de amônio+ureia aumenta os teores de COT na camada de 0-5 cm, mas os diminui na de 20-40 cm, além de incrementar os teores de COM em todas as profundidades. Os maiores teores de carbono orgânico total, lábil e particulado são verificados nas profundidades de 0-5 e 5-10 cm.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to determine the effect of off-season corn intercropped with Urochloa brizantha 'Marandu' and of nitrogen sources on the granulometric fractions of soil organic matter under a notillage system. The treatments were arranged in a 2x4 factorial arrangement - two types of corn cultivation (with or without pasture) and four nitrogen sources (without nitrogen, urea, ammonium sulfate+urea, and ammonium sulfate) -, in randomized complete blocks with four replicates. The experiment was carried out from 2005 to 2013. Soil sampling was performed in 2013, after corn harvest in fall/winter, at four depths: 0-5, 5-10, 10-20, and 20-40 cm. Total (TOC), labile (LC), particulate (POC), and mineral-associated organic carbon (MOC) contents were determined. The intercropping of corn with U. brizantha 'Marandu' results in a higher concentration of TOC, LC, and POC than single corn cultivated in fall/winter. Ammonium sulfate+urea increases TOC contents at the 0-5-cm depth, but decreases them at the 20-40-cm depth, besides increasing the MOC contents at all depths. The highest total, labile, and particulate organic carbon contents are observed at the 0-5 and 5-10-cm depths.

RESUMO Devido à carência de estudos agronômicos com espécies nativas e da importância do adequado fornecimento de nutrientes às plantas, objetivou-se neste trabalho avaliar o efeito de doses de N e P sobre o teor e conteúdo de nutrientes, bem como na eficiência nutricional de mudas de barbatimão (Stryphnodendron polyphyllum), em Latossolo Vermelho distroférrico. O trabalho foi desenvolvido em vasos de 8 dm3 , mantidos em casa de vegetação. Foram estudadas quatro doses de N (0; 20,82; 41,64 e 62,46 mg kg-1 de N) e quatro doses de P (0; 41,72; 83,44 e 125,16 mg kg-1 de P2O5), em esquema fatorial 4 x 4, no delineamento experimental de blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições. Decorridos 210 dias após a semeadura avaliou-se massa seca da parte aérea e radicular e teor de macro e micronutrientes na planta; por meio desses dados foram calculados os índices de eficiência de absorção e utilização de nutrientes. Houve interação significativa entre as doses de N e P para os teores de P, K, Ca, Cu, Mn e Zn na parte aérea e N, P, K, Ca, Mg e Fe na raiz. Na parte aérea das mudas, os nutrientes N e Fe foram influenciados somente pelo efeito isolado das doses de N, e o teor de Mg pelo efeito isolado das doses de P. O conteúdo de todos os nutrientes, na parte aérea e na raiz, foi influenciado significativamente pela interação entre as doses de N e P. As máximas doses proporcionaram maior conteúdo de macronutrientes na parte aérea, exceto N e K. O conteúdo de micronutrientes na parte aérea aumentou em função das doses de N e P e reduziu na raiz, exceto Fe. As mudas de barbatimão mostraram-se mais eficientes em absorver N e Zn e utilizar P e Mg. Comparados ao conteúdo, o N e o Ca foram os nutrientes mais acumulados nos tecidos da planta, contudo, os que apresentaram menor valor (P e Mg) foram os nutrientes mais eficientemente utilizados.

ABSTRACT Due to lack of agronomic studies with native species and the importance of an adequate supply of nutrients to plants, this study aimed to evaluate the effect of N and P on the concentration and nutrient content as well as the nutritional efficiency of barbatimão (Stryphnodendron polyphyllum) seedlings in Oxisol. The study was conducted in 8 dm3 pots and kept in a greenhouse. Were studied four doses of N (0, 20.82, 41.64 and 62.46 mg kg-1 N) and four doses of P (0, 41.72, 83.44 and 125.16 mg kg-1 P2O5) in 4x4 factorial in randomized complete block design with four replications. After 210 days after sowing was evaluated dry mass of shoots and roots and nutrient concentration in the plant, through these data were calculated the efficiency of absorption and utilization of nutrients. There was significant interaction between doses of N and P to the concentration of P, K, Ca, Cu, Mn and Zn in shoots and N, P, K, Ca, Mg and Fe in the root. In seedling nutrients N and Fe were influenced only by the isolated effect of N levels, and Mg content by isolated effect of P levels. The content of all nutrients in the shoot and root was significantly influenced by the interaction between doses of N and P. The maximum doses provided greater nutrient contents in shoots, except for N and K. The micronutrients content in the shoot increased as a function of both N and P and reduced the root, except Fe. The barbatimão seedlings were more efficient at absorbing N and Zn and using P and Mg. Comparing the content, N and Ca were the nutrients that most accumulated on the plant tissues, however, those who had lower (P and Mg) were the nutrients more efficiently used.

O barbatimão é uma importante espécie nativa do Cerrado, com potencial econômico e de restauração de áreas degradadas, no entanto, são escassos estudos agronômicos com a espécie, principalmente no que se refere à adubação com nitrogênio e fósforo em solos de Cerrado. Assim, objetivou-se estudar o crescimento inicial e índice SPAD em função de doses de N e P em Latossolo Vermelho distroférrico. O trabalho foi desenvolvido em vasos de 8 dm³ e mantidos em casa de vegetação. Foram estudadas quatro doses de N (0; 20,82; 41,64 e 62,46 mg.kg-1 de N) e quatro doses de P (0; 41,72; 83,44 e 125,16 mg.kg-1 de P2O5), em esquema fatorial 4x4, no delineamento experimental de blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições. Decorridos 210 dias após a semeadura mediu-se a altura, o diâmetro do caule, teor indireto de clorofila das folhas, massa seca da parte aérea e radicular e teor de N foliar. A adubação nitrogenada e fosfatada proporcionou maior incremento para todas as características avaliadas.

Barbatimão is an important native specie of Savannah, with economic potential and restoration of degraded areas, however, there are few agronomic studies with the specie, particularly regarding the fertilization with nitrogen and phosphorus in Cerrado soils. Thus, the objective was to study the initial growth, the levels of chlorophyll, dry matter production in function of N and P levels. The study was developed in 8 dm³ pots and kept in a greenhouse. There were studied four N levels (0, 20.82, 41.64 and 62.46 mg N kg-1) and four P levels (0, 41.72, 83.44 and 125.16 mg.kg-1 P2O5) in 4x4 factorial design in randomized blocks experimental design with four replications. After 210 days after sowing height, stem diameter, chlorophyll content, dry mass of shoot and root and leaf N content were measured. The nitrogen and phosphate application showed higher increment for all traits.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito de critérios de seleção de populações de referência no estabelecimento de normas DRIS na cultura do algodoeiro. Criou-se um banco de dados com a produtividade e os teores foliares de macro e micronutrientes, obtidos de talhões médios de 100 ha. Os critérios para o estabelecimento das subpopulações de alta produtividade foram talhões com: produtividade acima da média (4.380 kg ha-1); produtividade acima da média + 2/3 desvio-padrão (acima de 4.650 kg ha-1); produtividade acima da média + 1 desvio-padrão (acima de 4.785 kg ha-1); e produtividade acima da média + 4/3 desvio-padrão (acima de 4.920 kg ha-1). Os critérios de seleção da população de referência proporcionam baixa frequência de relações nutricionais concordantes, para cada norma DRIS avaliada. Independentemente do critério de seleção utilizado, os dados de produtividade média e o índice de balanço nutricional relacionam-se significativamente; e essa relação intensifica-se com o aumento no rigor do critério de inclusão de lavouras na população de referência.

The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of selection criteria for reference populations on establishing DRIS norms for cotton crop. A database was created with data on yield and macro- and micronutrient contents in leaves obtained in average 100 ha plots. The criteria for establishing the high yield subpopulations were plots with: yield above average (4,380 kg ha-1); yield above average + 2/3 standard deviation (above 4,650 kg ha-1); yield above average + 1 standard deviation (above 4,785 kg ha-1); and yield above average + 4/3 standard deviation (above 4,920 kg ha-1). The selection criteria for the reference population provide low agreement frequency between nutritional relations, for each evaluated DRIS norm. Independently of the criterion used, data on average yield and on the nutritional balance index are significantly related; and this relation is intensified with the increase in the rigor of criterion for the inclusion of crops in the reference population.

A canafístula é uma importante espécie florestal nativa, encontrada em áreas de Cerrado, que ainda carece de informações nutricionais e de obtenção de mudas de qualidade. Sendo assim, objetivou-se neste trabalho avaliar os efeitos da adição de N e P sobre o crescimento inicial e qualidade de mudas de canafístula em Latossolo Vermelho distroférrico. O experimento foi desenvolvido em vasos de 4 dm³, com os tratamentos dispostos em fatorial 4x4, sendo quatro doses de N (0; 20,82; 41,64 e 62,46 mg kg-1 de N) e quatro doses de P (0; 41,72; 83,44 e 125,16 mg kg-1 de P2O5), em delineamento experimental de blocos casualizados, com três repetições. Foram avaliadas características de crescimento (altura, diâmetro de caule e massa seca da parte aérea e radicular) e parâmetros de qualidade de mudas (relação altura/diâmetro - RAD; relação massa seca da parte aérea/massa seca de raiz - RPAR, e Índice de Dickson). Houve interação significativa entre as doses de N e P para todas as características de crescimento e parâmetros de qualidade avaliados. As maiores doses de N e P proporcionaram maior crescimento de mudas, no entanto, com relação à qualidade das mudas, o índice de Dickson indicou o fósforo como elemento mais importante.

Canafístula is an important native forest species, found in Cerrado, which still lacks on nutritional information and obtaining quality seedlings. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the effects of the addition of nitrogen and phosphorus on initial growth and seedling quality of canafístula (Peltophorum dubium Spreng. Taub.) grown in Oxisol. The experiment was carried out in 4 dm³ pots with treatments arranged in 4x4 factorial scheme, with four N levels (0, 20.82, 41.64 and 62.46 mg kg-1 N) and four P levels (0, 41.72, 83.72 and 125.16 mg kg-1 of P2O5) in a randomized block design with three replications. Were evaluated the growth characteristics (height, stem diameter and dry mass of shoots and roots) and quality parameters of seedlings (ratio height/diameter RAD; ratio dry mass of shoot / root dry weight RPAR, and Dickson Index). There was significant interaction between N and P for all growth characters and quality parameters evaluated. The highest level of N and P showed higher growth of seedlings. However, regarding the quality of seedlings, the Dickson index indicated that the phosphorous is the most important element.

Objetivou-se, neste trabalho, avaliar o efeito de doses combinadas de N e P no conteúdo de nutrientes, bem como na eficiência nutricional de mudas de canafístula (Peltophorum dubium Spreng. Taub.), em Latossolo Vermelho distroférrico. O experimento foi desenvolvido em vasos de 4 dm³, com os tratamentos dispostos em fatorial 4x4, sendo quatro doses de N - fonte ureia (0; 20,82; 41,64; e 62,46 mg kg-1 de N) e quatro doses de P - fonte superfosfato triplo (0; 41,72; 83,72; e 125,16 mg kg-1 de P2O5), em delineamento experimental de blocos casualizados com três repetições. As maiores doses de N e P proporcionaram maior acúmulo de macronutrientes tanto na parte aérea quanto na raiz, enquanto nos micronutrientes esse efeito foi ocasionado somente pelo P. A espécie apresentou alto requerimento nutricional quanto ao N, utilizou mais eficientemente o P, e o aporte de nutrientes é maior na parte aérea das mudas.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of combined levels of N and P in nutrient content and nutritional efficiency in seedlings of canafístula (Peltophorum dubium Spreng. Taub.) on Oxisol. The experiment was carried out in pots of 4 dm³, with treatments arranged in 4x4 factorial scheme, four N levels (0, 20.82, 41.64 and 62.46 mg kg-1 N) and four P levels ( 0, 41.72, 83.72 and 125.16 mg kg-1 of P2O5 in a randomized block design with three replications. The highest levels of N and P showed higher accumulation of nutrients in both the shoot and root while for the micronutrients that effect was caused only by P. The species showed high nutritional requirement for N, P used more efficiently and supply of nutrients is greater for shoot seedling.

A relação entre teores de nutrientes e índices DRIS é uma prática útil para determinar faixas adequadas para a interpretação dos teores foliares dos nutrientes. Objetivo na realização desse trabalho foi criar as faixas de Beaufils a partir de modelos estatísticos da relação entre teores foliares e índices DRIS, gerados por dois sistemas de normas DRIS: valor F e transformação por logaritmo natural, bem como avaliar o estado nutricional do algodoeiro, por meio das faixas de Beaufils. Dados de produtividade, de parcelas com médias de 100 ha, e teores foliares de macro e micronutrientes do algodoeiro (Gossypium hirsutum r. latifolium), procedente da safra de 2004-2005, foram selecionados para compor a base de dados. O critério para definir a população de referência consistiu nos talhões que apresentavam produtividades acima da média + 0,5 desvio-padrão (4.575 kg ha-1 de algodão em caroço). O modelo estatístico da relação entre teores foliares de nutrientes e índices DRIS que teve o melhor ajuste foi o linear, com R² > 0,8090, p < 0,01, com exceção do N, que apresentou R² = 0,5987, p < 0,01. Os dois critérios foram eficientes em diagnosticar o estado nutricional da planta; os diagnósticos não foram ao acaso, e sim baseados na eficácia do método que foi testado pelo teste do qui-quadrado. A concordância entre os métodos, na avaliação do estado nutricional, esteve entre 92,59 e 100 %, com exceção do S, que mostrou 74,07 % de concordância.

The relationships between nutrient contents and indices of the Diagnosis and Recommendation Integrated System (DRIS) are a useful basis to determine appropriate ranges for the interpretation of leaf nutrient contents. The purpose of this study was to establish Beaufils ranges from statistical models of the relationship between foliar concentrations and DRIS indices, generated by two systems of DRIS norms - the F value and natural logarithm transformation - and assess the nutritional status of cotton plants, based on these Beaufils ranges. Yield data from plots (average acreage 100 ha) and foliar concentrations of macro and micronutrients of cotton (Gossypium hirsutum r. latifolium) plants, in the growing season 2004/2005, were stored in a database. The criterion to define the reference population consisted of plots with above-average yields + 0.5 standard deviation (over 4,575 kg ha-1 seed cotton yield). The best-fitting statistical model of the relationship between foliar nutrient concentrations and DRIS indices was linear, with R² > 0.8090, p < 0.01, except for N, with R² = 0.5987, p < 0.01. The two criteria were effective to diagnose the plant nutritional status. The diagnoses were not random, but based on the effectiveness of the chi-square-tested method. The agreement between the methods to assess the nutritional status was 92.59-100 %, except for S, with 74.07 % agreement.

Os objetivos do trabalho foram avaliar o manejo de adubação com N e S (como sulfato de amônio) nos componentes de produção do milho e no N e S acumulados pela cultura, assim como avaliar o valor mínimo de Índice de Suficiência em Nitrogênio (ISN=0,95), como um indicativo da necessidade da adubação em cobertura, em plantio direto. O delineamento experimental foi blocos casualizados com seis tratamentos e quatro repetições em Latossolo Vermelho distrófico (Hapludox), em Campo Mourão (PR), utilizando os tratamentos no milho: T1- N 120 kg ha-1 na semeadura; T2- 120 kg ha-1 de N em cobertura; T3- 40 kg ha-1 de N na semeadura 80 kg ha-1 de N em cobertura; T4- 30 kg ha-1 de N na semeadura e 90 kg ha-1 N em cobertura, cuja necessidade foi monitorada pelo clorofilômetro, em função do Índice de Suficiência em Clorofila (ISC); T5- 120 kg N ha-1 antecipado na semeadura do trigo; T6- controle, sem aplicação de N. A necessidade da adubação nitrogenada em cobertura, no tratamento monitorado, foi avaliada pelo Índice de Suficiência em Nitrogênio (ISN), sendo determinado pela relação entre a leitura média do Índice Relativo de Clorofila Foliar (IRC) nas folhas da parcela estudada e a média da leitura do IRC na parcela de referência, a qual recebeu dose total de N e S na semeadura do milho. No primeiro ano, com chuvas mais regulares, o milho produziu melhor nos tratamentos onde o fertilizante foi aplicado em dose completa na semeadura ou em cobertura. A aplicação da dose completa do sulfato de amônio, antecipado na semeadura do trigo, proporcionou produtividade do milho sem diferença da adubação parcelada. Já no segundo ano, com chuvas irregulares e menor eficiência do fertilizante, não houve diferença entre as formas de manejo do sulfato de amônio na produtividade do milho na semeadura do trigo. O ISN de 0,95 não foi eficiente para avaliar o N requerido pelo milho na época da cobertura e a omissão do fertilizante resultou em menor produtividade do milho. O N acumulou-se mais nos grãos, enquanto o S acumulou-se mais na palha; porém ambos foram altamente correlacionados à produtividade do milho.

The objectives of this work were to evaluate the management of N and S (as ammonium sulphate) fertilization under no-tillage system on the components of maize productivity and on N and S accumulation in the crop, as well as to evaluate the minimum value of the Nitrogen Sufficiency Index (NSI 0.95) as an indicator for side dressing requirements. The experiment had a completely randomized block design with six treatments and four replications carried out in Red Latosol dystrophic soil (Hapludox), in Campo Mourão, Paraná State, where the following treatments in summer growth maize were applied: T1- 120 kg ha-1 N in seeding; T2- 120 kg ha-1 N in side dressing; T3- 40 kg ha-1 N in seeding and 80 kg ha-1 N in side dressing; T4- 30 kg ha-1 N in seeding and 90 kg ha-1 N in side dressing, monitored by a chlorophyll meter using the Nitrogen Sufficiency Index (NSI); T5- 120 kg ha-1 N anticipated in wheat seeding; T6- without nitrogen fertilization. NSI was determined by the relationship between the leaf chlorophyll index (ICF) average of T4 plants and that one in the plot fertilized with 120 kg ha-1 N at the maize seed sowing (T1). During two years, ammonium sulphate was applied to the maize crop after wheat under no tillage system. In the first year, with adequate rainfall, the maize yield was similar to the one in which the complete ammonium sulphate dose application was done in maize seeding and side dressing. The anticipated fertilization to wheat seed sowing resulted in maize yield without difference from the parceled form. In the second year, with irregular rainfall, all treatments with N were similar and they increased maize yield compared to that without N fertilization. NSI of 0.95 was not efficient to evaluate maize N requirements in side dressing, and resulted in lower maize yield. N was accumulated mainly in the grains unlike S that accumulated in the plant shoots; both were highly correlated to maize productivity.

O arroz é acumulador de silício, o qual beneficia seu crescimento e desenvolvimento, reduzindo a transpiração cuticular e aumentando a tolerância das plantas ao ataque de pragas e patógenos. Este trabalho objetivou avaliar os efeitos do tempo de incubação de fontes de silicato na disponibilidade e absorção de Si e no crescimento de plantas de arroz. O delineamento experimental foi o de blocos casualizados, em esquema fatorial 2x5x3, com quatro repetições, duas fontes de silicato (silicato de cálcio e escória de siderurgia), cinco tempos de incubação (1, 14, 35, 63 e 98 dias) e três tipos de solo. A dose de silício foi de 300 mg dm-3. No solo, foram avaliados os teores de Si solúvel extraído por cloreto de cálcio e, nas plantas, avaliou-se a massa seca da parte aérea e raiz, altura de planta e teor e acúmulo de Si na parte aérea. Em todas as classes de solo, a produção de matéria seca das raízes não foi influenciada pela adubação silicatada. O índice de matéria seca da parte aérea foi maior, com a aplicação de silicato de cálcio. O maior acúmulo de silício, na parte aérea da planta, ocorreu entre o segundo e o terceiro tempo de incubação, com concentração mais elevada na classe Latossolo Vermelho distroférrico.

Rice is a silicon accumulator, what benefits its growth and development, reducing cuticular transpiration and increasing the plant tolerance to pests and pathogens attacks. This study aimed to evaluate the incubation time effects of silicate sources on the Si availability and absorption and on rice plants growth. The experimental design was randomized blocks, in a 5x2x3 factorial scheme, with four replications, two silicate sources (calcium silicate and steel slag), five incubation times (1, 14, 35, 63, and 98 days), and three soils classes. The silicon dose used in the soil was 300 mg dm-3. The levels of soluble Si extracted by calcium chloride were evaluated in the soil, and, for plants, the dry matter of shoot and root, plant height, Si content and accumulation of the aerial part were evaluated. For all soil classes, the root dry matter yield was not influenced by silicon fertilization. The shoot dry matter index was higher with the application of calcium silicate. The highest shoot silicon accumulation occurred between the second and third incubation time, with higher concentration for the Oxisol.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o estoque de carbono orgânico total (COT) e nitrogênio total (NT), C e N nas frações lábeis e recalcitrantes da matéria orgânica do solo (MOS) e o índice de manejo de C, em solos sob sistema de integração lavoura-pecuária (ILP), após quatro (ILP4) e oito anos (ILP8) de implantação. Para comparação, foram utilizados outros sistemas de manejo: pastagem e lavoura em plantio direto (PD), além de vegetação nativa. O experimento foi realizado em delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com cinco repetições. A integração lavoura-pecuária, estabelecida num período de oito anos, é capaz de alcançar um novo estado estável equivalente ao sistema sob plantio direto com 23 anos de implantação. Houve acúmulo no estoque de C total de 101,0 (ILP8) e 104,2 Mg ha-1 (PD) e N total de 5,5 (ILP8) e 5,8 Mg ha-1 (PD), na camada 0-30 cm, bem como aumento no estoque de C e N nas frações lábeis e recalcitrantes da MOS. Para o ILP com oito anos, o índice de manejo de C de 88 foi superior ao dos demais sistemas de manejo e não diferiu da vegetação nativa na camada 0-10 cm, todavia, foi similar ao PD na análise de todo o perfil (0-30 cm).

The objective of this work was to evaluate the soil total organic carbon (TOC) and total nitrogen (TN) stocks, C and N in labile and recalcitrant fractions of the soil organic matter (SOM), and the C management index, in soils under integrated crop-livestock (ICL) system after four (ICL4) and eight years (ICL8) of settlement. For comparison purposes, other management systems were used: pasture and crop under no tillage (NT), besides native vegetation. The experiment was carried out in a completely randomized block design, with five replicates. The crop-livestock established in a period of eight years can reach a new steady state equivalent to the no-tillage with 23 years of implementation. There was accumulation in total organic carbon of 101.0 (ICL8) and 104.2 Mg ha-1 (NT), and N total stock of 5.5 (ICL8) and 5.8 Mg ha-1 (NT) in the 0-30 cm layer, as well as increase in the stock of labile and recalcitrant C and N fractions of SOM. For crop-livestock with eight years, the C management index of 88 was higher than other management systems, and not different from native vegetation (0-10 cm), however, it was similar to NT in the analysis of the entire profile (0-30 cm).

The study was carried out for two years in maize in succession to the wheat using no tillage system in a distroferric Red Latosol (Hapludox). Methods of management nitrogen fertilizer (120 kg ha-1) with ammonium sulphate were studied; the fertilizer was applied in maize sowing or in maize topdressing, and N with previous application in wheat sowing. In addition, leaf chlorophyll reading was used as an indicator for the need for topdressed nitrogen fertilizer. Nitrogen supply index (NSI) was shown to be effective at predicting need for topdressed nitrogen fertilizer for maize. The application of N improved the yield of the maize independent of the management system. The flowering stage was carried out at the appropriate time in order to estimate the nitrogen nutrition state and yield of maize using the relative chlorophyll level (RIC).

Na produção de mudas de maracujazeiro, deve-se atentar para o estado nutricional das plantas, cujas informações, quanto à adubação com micronutrientes como o boro, ainda são escassas para as regiões tropicais onde a fruticultura está se expandindo. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar os efeitos de doses de boro (B) e de material do cartão de cupinzeiro sobre componentes de crescimento e concentração de B, na parte aérea de plantas de maracujazeiro-amarelo (Passiflora edulis Sims f. flavicarpa Deg.), cultivadas em Latossolo Vermelho distrófico. O delineamento experimental foi o inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 5x4, com cinco doses de boro (0 mg dm-3 0,25 mg dm-3 0,50 mg dm-3 0,75 mg dm-3 e 1,00 mg dm-3 e quatro doses do material de cartão de cupinzeiro de montículo (0 g dm-3 25 g dm-3 50 g dm-3 e 75 g dm-3, com quatro repetições, totalizando 80 unidades experimentais. A unidade experimental foi constituída por vasos com capacidade máxima para 700 cmII;de amostras. O experimento foi realizado em casa-de-vegetação, em Dourados (MS). Os maiores valores de produção de massa seca da parte aérea, altura de plantas, área foliar, diâmetro de caule e leitura SPAD são alcançados pelas aplicações conjuntas de material do cartão, na maior dose, e entre as duas maiores doses de B. O material de cartão de cupinzeiro foi pouco efetivo, como fonte de B, para influenciar os componentes de crescimento do maracujazeiro. As concentrações de B, na parte aérea de plantas de maracujá, para todas as doses de material do cartão aplicado, decresceram com os aumentos das doses de B aplicado.

For producing passion fruit seedlings, it is necessary to pay attention to the plant nutritional status, whose information about fertilizing with micronutrients such as boron are still scarce for tropical regions where fruit growing is increasing. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of boron (B) rates and termites mound nest material on growth components and concentration of B on yellow passion fruit (Passiflora edulis Sims f. flavicarpa Deg.) shoots, in a Red Distrophic Latosol. The experimental design was completely randomized, in a 5x4 factorial scheme, with five B doses (0 mg dm-3 0.25 mg dm-3 0.50 mg dm-3 0.75 mg dm-3 and 1.00 mg dm-3 and four termites mound nest material rates (0 g dm-3 25 g dm-3 50 g dm-3 and 75 g dm-3, with four replications, totaling 80 experimental units. The experimental unit was composed of pots with up to 700 cmII;samples. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse, in Dourados, Mato Grosso do Sul State, Brazil. The highest values for shoot dry matter yield, plant height, leaf area, stem diameter, and SPAD reading are obtained by a joint application of the maximum termites mound nest material dose and between the two highest B rates. The termites mound nest material was little effective as a B source to influence upon the growth components of passion fruit plants. The B concentrations on the yellow passion fruit shoots, for all termites mound nest material rates, decreased with the increases in the B rates applied.

Com o desenvolvimento da soja resistente ao glifosato, Roundup Ready (RR), observa-se um aumento considerável no uso desse herbicida, com aplicações de três a quatro vezes durante o ciclo da cultura. Dessa forma, essas aplicações podem estar influenciando a nutrição mineral da cultura. Objetivou-se realizar este experimento para avaliar a influência do glifosato na eficiência nutricional de N, Mn, Cu, Zn e Fe pela soja transgênica cv. 'P98R31 RR'. O experimento foi realizado em casa de vegetação, na ESALQ/USP, Piracicaba (SP), em 2009. A unidade experimental foi constituída por vaso contendo 11kg de substrato (NITOSSOLO VERMELHO Eutroférrico latossólico), com duas plantas por vaso. Os tratamentos foram arranjados em um esquema fatorial 5X5, com cinco níveis do fator Mn (0, 20, 40, 60 e 80mg dm-3) e cinco de glifosato (0; 0,648; 1,296; 1,944 e 2,592kg i.a. ha-1), sendo que o Mn foi fornecido a partir do sulfato de manganês (MnSO4.H2O). O delineamento experimental foi em blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições. Não houve influência na resposta das plantas com relação ao fator Mn. A aplicação de glifosato interferiu de forma negativa na eficiência nutricional da planta e nos teores totais de N, Mn, Cu, Zn e Fe. A utilização de glifosato causou redução ao número de nódulos e redução na produção de massa seca.

After development of glyphosate-resistant (GR) soybean, there is a considerable raise in the use of this herbicide, with three to four applications during the culture cycle. Thus, these applications may be influencing the mineral nutrition of the crop. So, the aim of this research was evaluate the glyphosate influence on uptake, translocation and use efficiency of N, Mn, Cu, Zn and Fe by (GR) soybean 'P98R31' cultivar. The experiment was conducted in the greenhouse at ESALQ/USP, Piracicaba, State of São Paulo, Brazil, in 2009. The experimental unit was formed by 11kg vase-1 of soil (Rhodic Paleudult) with two plants in each vase. The treatments have been arranged in a factorial pathway 5X5, with five levels of the factor Mn (0, 20, 40, 60 and 80mg dm-3) and five of glyphosate drifts (0; 0,648; 1,296; 1,944 e 2,592kg e.a. ha-1) and the Mn was supplied by the manganese sulfate (MnSO4.H2O). The experimental design was randomized blocks, with four repetitions. There was no influence on response from plants concerning the levels of Mn used into the experiment. The application of glyphosate interfered on mineral nutrition of soybean and the total contents of N, Mn, Cu, Zn and Fe. The use of glyphosate has caused reduction of the nodules number and reduced the output of dry mass.

O melhor aproveitamento do P, tanto o aplicado no cultivo quanto o residual do solo, em razão do uso de calcário em solos argilosos cultivados e adubados por muitos anos, pode ser viável. Objetivando avaliar o efeito do aumento do pH do solo e da aplicação de adubo fosfatado e calcário na semeadura sobre a disponibilidade de P e o seu acúmulo em plantas de soja, realizaram-se dois experimentos em Latossolo Vermelho Distrófico-LVD e Latossolo Vermelho Distroférrico-LVDf, argilosos, com elevados níveis de fertilidade. O delineamento experimental foi blocos casualizados, num fatorial 4x2x2: quatro níveis de pH, duas doses de P e duas de calcário, com quatro repetições. Cultivaram-se plantas de soja em vaso até a floração. Avaliaram-se o peso da massa seca, teor e acúmulo de P na parte aérea; teor de P e P remanescente no solo. A disponibilidade de P nos solos aumentou com a elevação do pH. Para o LVdf, houve interação entre pH e doses de P, os teores de P no solo aumentaram com o pH e com a aplicação de P. Para o LVD, houve interação entre pH e doses de calcário. O P remanescente foi reduzido pelo aumento do pH em ambos os solos. Nos dois experimentos, com o aumento do pH do solo houve incremento na produção de massa seca e de P acumulado. Em solos argilosos e com alto teor de P, a elevação do pH aumenta a disponibilidade de P, proporcionando maior produção de massa seca de soja.

The best P employment, both applied in the culture as the P soil residual, is possible, due limestone use in clayey soils cultivated and fertilized for many years. Aiming at evaluating the pH increase in the soil and the effect of the application of phosphated fertilizer and lime on the sowing on the P availability and its accumulation in soybean plants, two experiments in oxisols, Haplortox (one LVD and the other LVDf), with high fertility levels, were carried out. The experimental design was random blocks, in a 4x2x2 factorial, being four pH levels, two P doses and two limestone doses, with four repetitions. Soybean plants were cultivated in vases up to flowering. The dry mass weight, P contents and accumulation in the area, P content and P remaining in the soil, were evaluated. P availability in soils increased with pH elevation. For the LVDf, there was an interaction between the pH and the P doses, the P contents in the soil increased with the pH and with the P application. For the LVD, there was an interaction between the pH and the doses of lime applied. The P remaining was reduced by the pH increase in both soils. In both experiments, with the pH increase in the soil, there was an increment in the dry mass production and P accumulated. In clayey soils with a high P content, the pH elevation increases the P availability, providing greater soybean dry mass production.
