RESUMO A gestão de recursos hídricos na agricultura irrigada é uma alternativa fundamental para garantir a eficiência do uso água para as culturas agrícolas. O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar a produção da calêndula e a produtividade da água sob diferentes potenciais matriciais de água no solo em diferentes fases de desenvolvimento. O experimento foi conduzido em ambiente protegido e em vasos. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos ao acaso com 6 tratamentos (-10, -15, -30, -40, -50 e -60 kPa) e 4 repetições, totalizando 24 unidades experimentais para cada ensaio isolado, representado pela fase de desenvolvimento da calêndula. Para monitorar o potencial matricial de água no solo foram utilizados tensiômetros e as leituras foram efetuadas diariamente. Foi avaliado a produção e massa seca de capítulos florais, e a produtividade da água. Os dados foram submetidos a análise de regressão. Observou-se que a variação da lâmina de irrigação durante todo ciclo de cultivo e na fase reprodutiva da calêndula resultou em resultados significativos para as variáveis analisadas. Para o ciclo completo verificou-se que a produção de capítulos florais foi maior para o potencial matricial de -10 kPa, valor superior à tensão n capacidade de campo (-30 kPa). No entanto, a maior produtividade da água foi obtida para o potencial matricial de -32,74 kPa.

ABSTRACT The management of water resources in irrigated agriculture is a basic method of guaranteeing water use efficiency in agricultural crops. The aim of this study was to evaluate production and water productivity in the marigold under different soil-water matric potentials and at different stages of development. The experiment was conducted in pots in a protected environment. The experimental design was of randomised blocks with six treatments (-10, -15, -30, -40, -50 and -60 kPa) and 4 replications, giving a total of 24 experimental units for each individual trial, which were represented by the development stage of the marigold. Tensiometers were used to monitor the matric potential of the soil, with readings taken daily. The production and dry weight of the floral capitula were evaluated together with water productivity. The data were submitted to regression analysis. It was found that the variations in irrigation depth throughout the growth cycle and during the reproductive phase of the marigold gave significant results for the variables under analysis. For the complete cycle, the production of floral capitula was seen to be greater at a matric potential of -10 kPa, a higher value than the pressure at field capacity (-30 kPa). However, the greatest water productivity was obtained at a matric potential of -32.74 kPa.

RESUMO: A utilização de plantas medicinais na fitoterapia do Sistema Único de Saúde no Brasil tem intensificado o cultivo e a necessidade de desenvolvimento de técnicas agronômicas eficientes para promover maior produtividade destas espécies. O objetivo do presente trabalho foi avaliar a produção da camomila a campo em função de lâminas de irrigação e doses de adubo orgânico. O ensaio foi conduzido em área experimental do campus II, da Universidade do Oeste Paulista, na cidade de Presidente Prudente - SP, Brasil. O delineamento experimental foi em esquema fatorial triplo, sendo composto por lâminas de irrigação (150, 100, 75, 50, 25 e 0% da evapotranspiração de referência - ETo), tipos de adubo orgânico (esterco de aves e esterco bovino curtido) e doses do adubo (0, 3 e 5 kg m-2), em quatro repetições. Foram avaliadas a produção de capítulos florais por planta, a massas seca dos capítulos florais e a produtividade da água. Para a região de Presidente Prudente, a irrigação suplementar combinada à adubação orgânica, proporcionaram maior produção de capítulos florais. A combinação de esterco de aves na dose de 5 kg m-2 à lâmina de 150% ETo resultou em maiores valores médios de massa fresca e seca de capítulos florais e produtividade da água.

ABSTRACT: The use of medicinal plants in the herbal medicine of Brazilian Health System has intensified production and the need for developing efficient agricultural techniques that promote greater productivity of these species. The objective of this work was to evaluate the chamomile production at field conditions as a function of irrigation depths and organic fertilizer rates. The experiment was conducted in the Universidade do Oeste Paulista (Campus II experimental area), in Presidente Prudente, São Paulo State, Brazil. A triple factorial experimental design was used, consisting of irrigation rates (150, 100, 75, 50, 25 and 0% of the reference evapotranspiration - ETo), organic manure types (poultry and cattle manure) and manure rates (0, 3 and 5 kg m-2), with four replications. The capitula production per plant, capitula dry weight and yield per water input (water use efficiency) were evaluated. The supplementary irrigation combined with organic manure fertilization provided the highest capitula yield for chamomile crop in the Presidente Prudente region. The combination of poultry manure at rate of 5 kg m-2 with water depth equal to 150% of the ETo resulted in higher average values of capitula fresh and dry weight and water use efficiency.

Abstract Sugarcane monosaccharides are reducing sugars, and classical analytical methodologies (Lane-Eynon, Benedict, complexometric-EDTA, Luff-Schoorl, Musson-Walker, Somogyi-Nelson) are based on reducing copper ions in alkaline solutions. In Brazil, certain factories use Lane-Eynon, others use the equipment referred to as “REDUTEC”, and additional factories analyze reducing sugars based on a mathematic model. The objective of this paper is to understand the relationship between variations in millivolts, mass and tenors of reducing sugars during the analysis process. Another objective is to generate an automatic model for this process. The work herein uses the equipment referred to as “REDUTEC”, a digital balance, a peristaltic pump, a digital camcorder, math programs and graphics programs. We conclude that the millivolts, mass and tenors of reducing sugars exhibit a good mathematical correlation, and the mathematical model generated was benchmarked to low-concentration reducing sugars (<0.3%). Using the model created herein, reducing sugars analyses can be automated using the new equipment.

No caso particular da cana-de-açúcar, os produtores são remunerados atualmente no Brasil pelo teor de açúcares totais recuperáveis (ATR) que a matéria-prima apresenta ao chegar à indústria, segundo CONSECANA: ATR = 9,6316*PC+9,15*AR, onde PC é a Pol da cana (sacarose aparente) e ARC são os açúcares redutores da cana (glicose +frutose). O objetivo do projeto foi propor alterações nos procedimentos utilizados para determinação matemática do ATR, estimando pelo poder calorífico do bolo úmido e peso do bolo úmido. O modelo final proposto fica então: ATR = 25,9892 + 0,02172* PCbu* PBU +0,536* PBU - 4,14* PCbu + 4,8158*PC + 4,575* ARC. Assim tem-se o ATR calculado em função do Poder calorífico do bolo úmido (PCbu), peso do bolo úmido (PBU), Pol da cana (PC) e Açúcares Redutores da Cana (ARC). Desta forma inclui-se na estimativa dos valores de ATR o Poder calorífico do bolo úmido, que reflete a bioenergia da fibra, peso do bolo úmido que estima a fibra da cana, alem dos fatores já existentes, Pol da cana e Açúcares Redutores da cana. O modelo proposto estimou valores de ATR 11,08% superiores que o modelo Consecana.

In the specific case of sugarcane, producers in Brazil are currently paid by the content of total recoverable sugars (TRS) in the raw material when it reaches the industry, according to CONSECANA: TRS = 9.6316 *PC +9.15 * RSS, where PC is the Pol in cane (apparent sucrose) and RSS are reducing sugars in sugarcane (glucose + fructose). The objective of the project was to propose changes in the procedures used to mathematically determine the TRS, estimating the calorific value of moist cake and weight of moist cake. The final model is then proposed: TRS = 25.9892 + 0.02172*CVmc*WMC+0.536*WMC - 4.14*CVmc + + 4.8158*PC + 4.575*RSS. Thus we obtain the TRS calculated according to the calorific value of moist cake (CVmc), weight of moist cake (WMC), Pol cane (PC) and the reducing sugars in sugarcane (RSS). This form is included in the estimation of TRS, the calorific value of moist cake, which reflects the bioenergy of fiber, weight of moist cake that estimates sugarcane fiber, in addition to existing factors Pol cane and reducing sugars in sugarcane. In the proposed model, the estimated values of TSR were 11.08% higher than the estimated values in the CONSECANA model.

No Brasil, o maior produtor de cana-de-açúcar do mundo, o processamento industrial transforma a cana-de-açúcar principalmente em etanol e/ou açúcar cristal. Alguns cultivares apresentam escurecimento enzimático no caldo extraído em níveis prejudiciais ao processo de fabricação do açúcar cristal branco. O objetivo da pesquisa foi avaliar o efeito do palhiço como cobertura, sistemas de plantio e tratamentos com polímero hidrogel em atividades enzimáticas. O cultivar RB 86 7515 foi amostrado por oito meses, retirando-se o primeiro entrenó da parte superior, que foi levado ao laboratório e procedeu-se à determinação das atividades da polifenoloxidase (PFO) e da peroxidase (POD). As coberturas do solo com diferentes formas de palhiço, bem como os sistemas de plantio, não promoveram alterações nas atividades enzimáticas das enzimas polifenoloxidase (PFO) e peroxidase (POD). A atividade da PFO foi incrementada com a utilização de polímero, este fato foi promovido pelo aumento de atividade da PFO no sistema de plantio em sulco. As enzimas estudadas apresentaram mudanças de atividades nos meses. A produção de açúcar no final da safra (agosto a novembro) evita os períodos de maiores atividades enzimáticas.

In Brazil, the largest producer of sugarcane in the world, the industrial process transforms this crop into ethanol and/or granulated sugar. Some cultivars exhibit enzymatic browning in the extracted sugarcane juice at levels harmful to the manufacturing process of white granulated sugar. The objective of this study was to assess the effect of sugarcane straw used as soil coverage, the use of different planting systems, and treatments with hydrogel polymer on enzymatic activity. The cultivar RB 86 7515 was sampled for 8 months; the first sample was obtained by cutting the upper portion of the stalk at the internode, which was taken to the laboratory for determination of the enzymatic activity of polyphenoloxidase (PPO) and peroxidase (POD). The soil coverage with different forms of straw as well as the planting systems did not change the enzymatic activity of polyphenoloxidase (PPO) and peroxidase (POD). The polyphenoloxidase (PPO) activity increased with the use of a polymer due to increased polyphenoloxidase (PPO) activity in the groove system. The enzymes studied showed changes in activity during the experimental period. The production of sugar at the end of the season (August to November) avoids the periods of highest enzymatic activity.

OBJETIVO: Avaliar a qualidade global da dieta em uma amostra de gestantes, a partir de um parâmetro único, simples e objetivo. MÉTODOS: Gestantes entre a 16ª e 36ª semana de gestação (n = 712) foram arroladas em unidades básicas de saúde em Porto Alegre e Bento Gonçalves, RS, em 2010. Com base no índice americano Alternate Healthy Eating Index for Pregnancy (AHEI-P) foi criado o Índice de Alimentação Saudável para Gestantes Brasileiras (HEIP-B). Foram aplicados o questionário de frequência alimentar e o questionário sociodemográfico. Foi utilizada a análise de componentes principais focada para avaliar a relação entre os índices e os nutrientes relevantes à gestação. RESULTADOS: A mediana e o intervalo interquartílico dos índices AHEI-P e HEIP-B foram 66,6 (57,8-72,4) e 67,4 (60,0-73,4), respectivamente. O HEIP-B mostrou boa correlação positiva com os nutrientes que têm recomendação específica no período gestacional folato (r = 0,8; p < 0,001), cálcio (r = 0,6; p < 0,001) e ferro (r = 0,7; p < 0,001). CONCLUSÕES: A qualidade da dieta das gestantes do presente estudo foi classificada dentro do ponto de corte "precisando de melhorias", o que mostra a necessidade de se trabalhar mais especificamente com educação alimentar nesse ciclo da vida. O índice aplicado mostrou boas correlações e, portanto, pode ser considerado um bom instrumento de avaliação da qualidade da alimentação durante a gestação.

METHODS: Pregnant women (n = 712), between 16 and 36 weeks, attending primary care clinics in Porto Alegre and Bento Gonçalves, Southern Brazil, in 2010 were recruited to take part. The Healthy Eating Index for Brazilian Pregnancy (HEIP-B) was created, derived from the American instrument called Alternate Healthy Eating Index for Pregnancy (AHEI-P). Questionnaires on frequency of consumption and on socio-demographic factors were completed. Focused principal component analysis (ACPF) was used to assess the relationship between the index and nutrients relevant to pregnancy. RESULTS: The median (interquartile range) of AHEI-P and HEIP-B were 66.6 (57.8-72.4) and 67.4 (60.0-73.4), respectively. The HEIP-B showed a good positive correlation with nutrients which are specifically recommended for pregnancy: folate (r = 0.8; p < 0.001), calcium (r = 0.6; p < 0.001) and iron (r = 0.7; p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: The quality of the diet of the pregnant women in this study was classified as within the "improvements needed" cut off point, which demonstrates the need for more specific education on nutrition for this stage of life. The index showed good correlations and, thus, may be considered an effective tool for assessing the quality of nutrition during pregnancy.

O cafeeiro, em sua fase inicial de mudas, requer um adequado suprimento de água, pois o estresse hídrico pode causar reduções no crescimento e subsequentemente na produção em campo. A hipótese deste trabalho foi que o uso do hidrogel como substituto da irrigação de mudas de café cv. 'Iapar 59' proporciona mudas de qualidade igual ou superior àquelas irrigadas. O experimento foi conduzido em viveiro telado (50% sombrite) em Presidente Prudente - SP - de fevereiro a outubro de 2008. Utilizou-se o delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com cinco tratamentos (sem polímero e irrigado diariamente; 0,0; 1,0; 2,0 e 3,0g por saco de polietileno sem irrigação) e 20 repetições. Realizaram-se seis avaliações periódicas: número de folhas (NF), matéria seca da parte aérea (MSPA) e raízes (MSR); comprimento da parte aérea (CPA) e raízes (CR) e MSPA/MSR. Para as condições do ensaio, o uso do hidrogel na dose de 2g por saco de polietileno proporcionou mudas de mesma qualidade que aquelas irrigadas. A relação MSPA/MSR foi superior para o tratamento irrigado.

The coffee seedlings require an adequate water supply because the water stress can cause reductions in growth and subsequently in the production field. The hypothesis of this research was that the hydrogel used as a substitute for the irrigation of seedlings of 'Iapar 59' coffee provides quality equal or higher seedling irrigated. The experiment was conducted in a screened seed nursery (50 shading) in Presidente Prudente city, São Paulo State, Brazil, since February to October 2008. The statistical design was completely randomized, with 5 treatments (without polymer and without irrigation; 0.0; 1.0; 2.0 and 3.0g of hydrogel per polythene bag without irrigation) and 20 repetitions. We conducted six periodic evaluations: number of leaves (NF), dry matter of aerial part (MSPA) and roots (MSR); length of aerial part (CPA) and roots (CR) and the MSPA/MSR. Under test conditions, the use of hydrogel in the dose of 2g per polyethylene bag results in seedlings of same quality of seedlings irrigated. The MSPA/MSR relation was higher for the irrigated treatment.

OBJETIVO: Investigar a associação do alelo T do polimorfismo de nucleotídeo único (SNP) rs7903146 do TCF7L2 com a ocorrência de DM2 em uma amostra de indivíduos acompanhados no Hospital Universitário de Brasília. SUJEITOS E MÉTODOS: O SNP 7903146 do TCF7L2 foi genotipado por PCR alelo-específica em 113 pacientes portadores de DM2 e em 139 controles não diabéticos em Brasília, Brasil. RESULTADOS: Foi observada associação significativa do alelo T do SNP rs7903146 do TCF7L2 com a ocorrência de DM2 (razão de chances de 3,92 para o genótipo TT utilizando o modelo genético recessivo, p = 0,003; e de 1,5 para o alelo T, p = 0,032). CONCLUSÃO: Esse resultado reforça os achados prévios de associação consistente desse fator genético com o risco de diabetes em populações de origens étnicas diversas. OBJECTIVE:To investigate the association of the T allele of the single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs7903146 of TCF7L2 with the occurrence of T2D in a sample of subjects followed up at the Brasilia University Hospital. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: The SNP rs7903146 of TCF7L2 was genotyped by allele-specific PCR in 113 patients with known T2D and in 139 non-diabetic controls in Brasilia, Brazil. RESULTS:We found that the T allele of the SNP rs7903146 of TCF7L2 was significantly associated with T2D risk (odds ratio of 3.92 for genotype TT in the recessive genetic model, p = 0.004 and 1.5 for T allele, p = 0.032). CONCLUSION:These results reinforce previous findings on the consistent association of this genetic factor and the risk of T2D in populations of diverse ethnic backgrounds. O manjericão (Ocimum basilicum L.) é uma planta aromática de importância econômica no Brasil, muito usado como tempero na preparação de alimentos. É também utilizado para a obtenção de óleo essencial, importante na indústria de perfumaria. O objetivo deste experimento foi analisar o efeito de cinco lâminas de irrigação, bem como uma análise da viabilidade econômica da aplicação da irrigação na produção do manjericão. O experimento foi conduzido no período de março a outubro de 2007. As lâminas foram baseadas na evaporação do Tanque Classe A (ECA) sendo: 0, 50, 75, 100 e 150% ECA. As variáveis analisadas foram matéria seca das folhas e inflorescências, teor de óleo essencial, massa seca e comprimento de raízes. Foram calculadas a produtividade de óleo essencial e a receita líquida. A terceira colheita foi viável somente utilizando irrigação. A irrigação diária excessiva prejudicou o desenvolvimento da planta. A lâmina de irrigação equivalente a 100% ECA promoveu a máxima produtividade de matéria seca (4.248,67 kg ha-1), assim como a máxima produtividade de óleo essencial (58,26 kg ha-1), apresentando receita líquida anual de R$ 2.543,82 ha-1.

Basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) is an aromatic plant of economic importance in Brazil, very used as a spice for food preparation. It is also used to obtain essential oil, which important in the perfume industry. The purpose of this experiment was to analyze the effect of five irrigation water depths, as well as an economic viability analysis of the application of irrigation in basil production. The experiment was carried out from March to October 2007. The water depths were based in the cumulative class A pan evaporation (CPE): 0, 50, 75, 100 and 150% CPE. The analyzed variables were dry weight for leaves and flowers, content of essential oil, and dry mass and length of root zone. The essential oil yield and net return were calculated. The third harvest was possible only under irrigation. The daily excessive water depth was detrimental to plant development. The 100% CPE water depth showed the maximum dry mass productivity (4,248.67 kg ha-1), as well as the maximum essential oil yield (58.26 kg ha-1) with net annual profit of R$ 2,543.82 ha-1.

O orégano é uma planta aromática da família Lamiaceae muito comum na região do mediterrâneo. Ele é rico em óleo essencial e muito usado como tempero na preparação de alimentos. Conhecer o comportamento da espécie em relação às características climáticas da região de plantio é essencial para o sucesso do cultivo. Assim, um experimento foi conduzido com o objetivo de analisar o efeito de cinco lâminas de irrigação em condições de campo, na produção de óleo essencial e nas trocas gasosas da planta de orégano. As lâminas calculadas com base na ECA (Evaporação do Tanque Classe A) foram 0 (sem reposição de água); 25; 50; 75 e 100% ECA. O experimento foi instalado em Presidente Prudente, em São Paulo (SP), no período de fevereiro a maio de 2006. Observou-se uma relação linear positiva com o incremento das lâminas de irrigação para as variáveis matéria fresca da parte aérea, matéria seca da parte aérea e da raiz; relação raiz/parte aérea, teor e rendimento do óleo essencial. O uso da lâmina de 100% ECA apresentou os melhores resultados de crescimento das plantas de orégano e de produção de óleo essencial. As diferentes lâminas de irrigação não afetaram as trocas gasosas da planta.

The oregano is an aromatic plant of the Lamiaceae family, very common in the Mediterranean region, rich in essential oil and very used as spice in food preparation. Knowledge about the species behavior with respect to the region climatic characteristics of planting is essential to the cultivation success. Thus, one experiment was carried out to analyze the effect of five different depth irrigations under field conditions in the production of essential oil and gas exchange in the oregano plant. The water depths were estimated based on the CPE (Class A pan evaporation): 0 (without water replacement); 25; 50; 75 and 100% CPE. The experiment was carried out in Presidente Prudente, SP, Brazil, from February to May 2006. A linear positive relation was observed to depths irrigations increment in the fresh matter for aerial plant parts, dry matter for aerial and root zone plant parts; the root/aerial ratio; content and yield of essential oil. The use of 100% ECA showed the best oregano growth and essential oil production. The different depths irrigation did not affect the plant gas exchange.

No presente trabalho avaliou-se a viabilidade econômica da irrigação da pupunheira em Ilha Solteira, para as características locais através do programa Pupunha, que permite a variação dos fatores que interferem no custo da irrigação, fornecendo uma família de curvas comparativas para diversas situações. Estudou-se o efeito do custo da água associado a lâmina de irrigação e a sensibilidade dos equipamentos de irrigação localizada devido a variação da vida útil, associado ao tipo de motor utilizado. Usando a produtividade de palmito de sequeiro de 700kg ha-1 e a produtividade do palmito irrigado de 2500kg ha-1, concluiu-se que para todas as simulações realizadas, a irrigação da pupunheira é viável para a localidade de Ilha Solteira - SP, pois o aumento de produtividade real de 257%, ocorrido com a irrigação, supera o máximo "acréscimo de produtividade necessário" de 130,33%, proporcionando lucro ao produtor.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the economic viability of the irrigation of the Pupunha crop in Ilha Solteira, São Paulo, Brazil for the local parameters. Through the program Pupunha, being obtained a family of comparative curves for several situations. The effect of the cost of the water was studied associated with the irrigation levels. The sensitivity of the equipments due the variation of the life useful was studied associate to the type of used motor. Using the yield of the no-irrigate palm heart of 700kg ha-1 and yield of the irrigated palm heart of 2500 kg ha-1, for all the accomplished simulations, the income of the production increment overcomes the cost of the irrigation, supplying profit to the producer.

Considerando a importância da irrigação por sulcos e devido a este sistema de irrigação necessitar de trabalhosos cálculos e ensaios de campo para seu projeto, o presente trabalho teve como objetivo apresentar o software Sulcos 2000, para Windows 95, desenvolvido em linguagem Delphi 3.0. Este software auxilia a elaboração de projetos de irrigação por sulcos através de procedimentos de cálculos automáticos que agilizam e possibilitam testar várias situações durante a fase de projeto. Também permite a obtenção da equação de infiltração através do ensaio de campo, já a equação de avanço pelo ensaio de campo e pela simulação. À partir destas equações realiza-se os cálculos referentes ao projeto e fornece-se uma avaliação da irrigação. Os dados são salvos em um banco de dados que pode ser acessado posteriormente. O software apresenta relatórios impressos e acesso a tabelas e ferramentas de dimensionamento.

Considering the importance of furrow irrigation, the need of difficult calculations and necessary field research for the project, this work developed a software 'Sulcos 2000', for Windows 95 in Delphi 3.0. This software assists and facilitates the elaboration of furrow irrigation projects through the procedures of automatic calculations that activate and allow to test several situations during the project phase. Infiltration equations are obtained from field research. Progress equations are obtained from field research and simulation. The data are saved in a database that can be accessed at any moment. The software also presents printed reports and allows access to tables and design tools.
