Resumo Durante a pandemia do COVID-19, mudanças ocorreram em diversos campos, fazendo-se importante conhecer os contextos de risco social e psíquico que marcam condições de vulnerabilidade e vulneração, vividas por crianças e bebês, a despeito de crianças: refugiadas, residentes em favela e crianças vítimas de violência intrafamiliar. Objetivo: Conhecer possíveis riscos à saúde mental de crianças, em situação de vulnerabilidade, no período da pandemia de Covid-19, na realidade brasileira. Método: Estudo de mídia, com vistas à análise do contexto sociopolítico, favorecendo a visão crítica de leituras de mundo distintas, fundamental para compreensão do objeto pretendido. Resultado: A partir dos dados levantados, estruturou-se categorias específicas à cada grupo estudado, a saber: 1) crianças refugiadas: precariedade do abrigo; dimensão legal; perdas e lutos; e xenofobia. 2) crianças residentes periféricas: perdas e lutos; violência à criança; acesso à saúde; e fome. 3) violência intrafamiliar: direitos da criança em situação de violência; violência doméstica na pandemia e meios extradomiciliares que amparam a criança. Os resultados obtidos em cada um dos objetivos específicos, denunciam especificidades de cada um dos grupos: as crianças refugiadas, além de perderem direitos vivenciam perda da sua origem, dificultando o endereçamento do seu sofrimento a um “outro”. As crianças residentes em periferias, além de serem afetadas pela pandemia, sofreram efeitos da necropolitica, advinda da herança colonial. Crianças vítimas de violência intrafamiliar enfrentaram agravos decorrentes do isolamento social e adoecimnto psíquico dos cuidadores. Considera-se, por fim que sem a denúncia necessária, os riscos de esquecimento de tão grave problemática pode se fazer efetivar e os recursos necessários ao cuidado não se fazerem urgentes. A análise da mídia favoreceu lidar com uma lacuna no campo científico, possibilitando a criação de reflexões da condição de vulneração de populações invisibilizadas.

Abstract During the COVID-19 pandemic, changes occurred in several fields, making it important to know the contexts of social and psychic risk that mark conditions of vulnerability and vulnerability, experienced by children and babies, despite children: refugees, residents in favelas and children’s victims of domestic violence. Objective: To know possible risks to the mental health of children, in a situation of vulnerability, in the period of the Covid-19 pandemic, in the Brazilian reality. Method: Media study, with a view to analyzing the sociopolitical context, favoring a critical view of different world readings, fundamental for understanding the intended object. Result: From the collected data, specific categories were structured for each group studied, namely: 1) refugee children: precariousness of the shelter; legal dimension; losses and mourning; and xenophobia. 2) children living in peripheral areas: losses and bereavements; child violence; access to health; and hunger. 3) domestic violence: rights of children in situations of violence; domestic violence in the pandemic and extra-domiciliary means that support the child. The results obtained in each of the specific objectives, denounce specificities of each of the groups: refugee children, in addition to losing rights, experience the loss of their origin, making it difficult to address their suffering to an “other”. Children residing in peripheries, in addition to being affected by the pandemic, suffered the effects of necropolitics, arising from the colonial heritage. Children victims of intrafamily violence faced injuries resulting from social isolation and mental illness of caregivers. Finally, it is considered that without the necessary denouncement, the risks of forgetting such a serious problem can become effective and the resources necessary for care do not become urgent. Media analysis favored dealing with a gap in the scientific field, enabling the creation of reflections on the vulnerable condition of invisible populations.

Abstract Tea is identified as the second most consumed drink in the world, and its frequent intake is related to several benefits to human health, considering its antimutagenic, anticarcinogenic, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antihistamine, diuretic, calming, and above all, antioxidant effects. These effects are often associated with the action of the phenolic compounds contained in these infusions. In Brazil, among the most consumed infusions are the teas of chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla L.), lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus (D.C.) Stapf), lemon balm (Melissa officinalis L.), anise (Pimpinella anisum L.), yerba mate (Ilex paraguariensis A. St.-Hil), peppermint (Mentha piperita L.), and green/black tea (Camellia sinensis L.). Therefore, said popularity is the reason why the mentioned species were chosen to be evaluated on inflammatory enzymes. The activity of phospholipases A2 was reduced by more than 25% after treatment with black tea and yerba mate. The most significant inhibition of protease activity was observed after incubation with black tea (40.74%), green tea (31.48%) and yerba mate (25.93%). Infusions of black and green tea reduced hemolysis in semisolid and liquid media, and for the latter, reductions of up to 50% of hemolytic activity were observed, indicating an anti-inflammatory potential of the samples. Plasma incubations with green tea, black tea and lemon balm and subsequent addition of venom (1:10 ratio; tea:PBS, v:v) prolonged the coagulation time of citrated plasma by approximately twice compared to the positive control. All controls with pure tea had a thrombolytic character, in higher proportions than the venom control, especially chamomile (273.55% dissolution). Phenolic compounds derived from phenolic acids, flavonoids, and tannins are identified as the main agents that promote the biological effects observed in this study. This is mainly due to their anti-catalytic properties exerted on inflammatory enzymes and as chelating agents of enzymatic co-factors. The evaluated teas showed potential for nutraceutical use, thus pointing to the possibility of use as an adjuvant in the treatment of diseases linked to hemostasis.

Abstract In order to explore possible connections between Glauber Rocha and Ailton Krenak, this essay investigates the echoes and relationships between these two figures who are different in their attributions, social positions, and political-aesthetic ambitions, but who share a commitment to urgent issues in the public debate of their respective historical times. Thus, we propose a transversal dialogue between the two thinkers in the oneiric dimension (the institution of the dream), which will perhaps best traverse their affinities and differences. Although an association between Glauber Rocha and the Amerindians or between Ailton Krenak and the Cinema Novo may seem unusual, this essay highlights the untimely affinity of the institution of the dream in the resonances and dissidences between Glauber Rocha's manifestos “Eztetyka da Fome” (1965) and “Eztetyka do sonho” (1971) and Ailton Krenak's books, Ideas to Postpone the End of the World (2020) and Life is Not Useful (2021).

Resumen Con el fin de explorar las posibles aproximaciones entre Glauber Rocha y Ailton Krenak, este ensayo investiga los ecos y las relaciones entre dos figuras distintas en sus atribuciones, lugares sociales y ambiciones político-estéticas, pero que comparten un compromiso con cuestiones urgentes en el debate público de sus respectivos tiempos históricos. Así, proponemos un diálogo transversal entre los dos pensadores a partir de la dimensión onírica (la institución del sueño), que quizás sea la que mejor atraviese sus afinidades y diferencias. Aunque parezca inusual una asociación entre Glauber Rocha y los amerindios, o entre Ailton Krenak y el Cinema Novo, el ensayo enfatiza la afinidad intempestiva de la institución del sueño en las resonancias y disidencias entre los manifiestos de Glauber Rocha “Eztetyka da Fome” (1965) y “Eztetyka do sonho” (1971) y los libros de Ailton Krenak, Ideias para adiar o fim do mundo (2020) y A vida não é útil (2021).

Abstract Maxillofacial trauma can occur with high frequency while playing sports. Skeletal and soft tissue lesions can occur, with different degrees of severity and impact for the athlete. Sports-related facial fractures most frequently affect the nose, zygoma and mandible, regardless of the country and sport. During initial evaluation it is important to distinguish between stable injuries that can be treated on the sidelines or after the match and emergencies requiring prompt hospital transfer. Athletes could benefit from a more personalized approach to treatment, aimed at optimizing the timeframe for return to play. There is a lack of evidence-based studies on return to play after facial trauma, and currently no specific guidelines exist. Return to sport depends on a variety of factors, such as type of fracture, the risk of impact within the sport, the player's motivation for an early return and the surgeon's knowledge and experience.

Resumo Trauma maxilofacial ocorre frequentemente durante a prática de desportos. Lesões esqueléticas e de tecidos moles podem ocorrer com diferentes graus de gravidade e impacto para o atleta. As fraturas faciais relacionadas com o desporto afetam mais frequentemente o nariz, o zigoma e a mandíbula, independentemente do país e do desporto. Durante a avaliação inicial é importante distinguir entre lesões estáveis que podem ser tratadas fora do campo ou após o jogo, e emergências que requerem transferência hospitalar imediata. Os atletas podem beneficiar de uma abordagem mais personalizada no tratamento, de forma a otimizar o regresso à competição. Atualmente, e devido à falta de estudos baseados na evidência, não existem diretrizes específicas sobre o regresso à competição após traumatismos da face. O regresso à competição depende de diversos fatores, como o tipo de fratura, o risco de impacto dentro do desporto, a motivação do jogador para um regresso precoce e o conhecimento e experiência do cirurgião.

Abstract Objective: To describe the process of translation into Brazilian Portuguese and cross-cultural adaptation of the French Reflux Symptom Score-12 questionnaire used for the diagnosis of laryngopharyngeal reflux. Methods: This was across-cultural translation and adaptation study of a health instrument, with a cross-sectional design. It was carried out in eight stages: translation from French into Brazilian Portuguese, cultural adaptation by a panel of experts, application of the first version (pilot test 1), adaptation by a panel of experts, application of the second version (pilot test 2), back translation, reviewing by a committee in conjunction with the author of the original instrument and, application of the final version. The Brazilian Portuguese versions of the questionnaire were applied to individuals with symptoms and signs of laryngopharyngeal reflux who underwent pHmetry and esophageal manometry at the study site. Results: In pilot test 1, the first version of the RSS-12 in Brazilian Portuguese was applied to 30 patients. The patients had no difficulty to understand any of the 12 symptom items, but 15 patients (50%) had difficulty interpreting the symptom frequency score. After adapting the format of the frequency score, a version 2 of the RSS-12 in Brazilian Portuguese was applied to another 23 patients, who completed the questionnaire in full without any difficulty. Along with the review committee, the author of the original RSS-12 considered the version 2 to be adequate and did not propose any changes, so it was approved as the final version of the Brazilian Portuguese RSS-12. Conclusion: The Brazilian Portuguese version of the instrument, called Reflux Symptom Score-12 PT-BR, shows good understanding and linguistic, conceptual and content equivalence, in relation to the original Reflux Symptom Score-12.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Elderly patients are the most frequent patients admitted to dialysis units. Relatively little is known about standards on endof-life (EOL) care among dialysis patients. From international literature, these patients are exposed to more aggressive treatments at EOL than patients with cancer or other chronic diseases and palliative referral is infrequent. This study aims to describe some end-of-life (EOL) practices in patients undergoing hemodialysis in NephroCare clinics in several cities in Portugal. Material and Methods: We designed a prospective, multicenter, observational, cross-sectional study conducted between October 1st, 2020 and September 30th, 2021 in six hemodialysis clinics including 1265 patients (pts). Results: During the year in analysis, 158 pts died (12.4%). Mean age was 76 years (25% of pts were older than 85 years) and dialysis vintage was 84 (2-963) months. Regarding comorbidities, 50% were diabetic, 40% had congestive heart failure, 25% had cancer and 17% had dementia. Mean age-adapted Charlson index was 13 ± 3. For 82 pts (51.9%), nephrologists would not be surprised if they died in the next 6 months. Seventy-three had hospital admissions in the previous three months. Four pts withdrew dialysis. Of those who died, only two had advance care directives, 18 had an opioid prescription in the last month of life and 17 were referred to palliative intervention mostly because of oncologic disorders. Seventy four percent of these pts died at the hospital and 23% died at home/nursing home. Not a single patient died under hospice care. Conclusion: Most of our patients commonly die in hospital, undergo invasive procedures, spend much of their remaining life fulfilling a demanding dialysis schedule and are admitted to the hospital wards without formal palliative intervention or discussion of goals of care, even when death is an expected outcome.

ABSTRACT This essay has for object the presence of members of the National Monetary Council (CMN) in think tanks since 1995. The problem of research of the work is if there is a de facto link between the CMN members and think tanks. The essay also has two auxiliary problems: whether CMN members previously linked to their positions and then entered think tanks or whether think tanks function as an entry mechanism for positions; and whether members of the Council with an orthodox ideational profile tend to participate in think tanks more than the rest.

RESUMO Este trabalho tem por objeto a presença de membros do Conselho Monetário Nacional (CMN) em think tanks a partir de 1995. Quanto a este objeto, testamos a hipótese de que há vinculação de fato entre os membros do CMN e think tanks. A pesquisa levanta também duas outras hipóteses auxiliares: os think tanks funcionam como mecanismo de entrada para os cargos, aparecendo anteriormente na trajetória do Conselheiro; e que os membros do Conselho de perfil ideacional ortodoxo tendem a participar mais de think tanks que os demais.

This study evaluated the pollutant levels (NO2, SO2, CO, and O3), air quality index (AQI) and the influence of meteorological variables and coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic on the air quality in Rio de Janeiro. The data set used comprises periods before (March-April, 2019) and during pandemic (March-April, 2020). According to the AQI results, on most days, the air quality was ranked as “good”. Brazilian air quality standards for SO2, O3, and NO2 were not exceeded in any of the monitoring stations during partial lockdown, while CO exceeded in all periods in one site due to industrial emission. Comparing both periods, descriptive statistics for the meteorological parameters presented no differences, which suggests similar conditions. However, when evaluated week by week in 2020, weather conditions presented some differences that probably affected pollutant concentrations. The correlations between O3 and NO2 and some meteorological parameters indicate that variations in both favored ozone formation, since it is a photochemical process favored by temperature and solar radiation and that, in Rio de Janeiro, low NO2 concentrations lead to increased O3. The improvements on air quality during the partial lockdown may be attributed mainly to a reduction on emission sources rather than weather conditions.

Abstract This study aimed to assess the mental health of a University community in South Brazil during the COVID-19 pandemic. A cross-sectional web-based survey was conducted between July-August 2020 through a self-administered questionnaire. All University staff and students were eligible. Depression was measured using the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 and anxiety by the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7. To evaluate the effect of social distancing and mental health factors on outcomes, Poisson regression models with robust variance were performed, estimating Prevalence Ratios (PR) and 95% Confidence Intervals (95%CI). 2,785 individuals participated in the study. Prevalence of depression and anxiety were 39.2% (95%CI 37.3-41.1) and 52.5% (95% CI 50.6-54.4), respectively. Undergraduate students showed a higher prevalence of the outcomes. Not leaving the house routinely, mental health care, and previous diagnosis of mental illness were associated with both outcomes. Those with a previous medical diagnosis of depression had a 58% (PR 1.58; 95%CI 1.44; 1.74) and anxiety a 72% (PR 1.72; 95%CI 1.56; 1.91) greater prevalence of depression than their peers. An alarming prevalence of psychopathologies was observed. Despite the well-known benefits of social distancing to public health, it requires a surveillance on the population’s mental health, especially students and those with previous mental illness diagnosis.

ABSTRACT Objective: Evaluate the influence of the most used surgical positioners for lumbar lordosis (LL) in asymptomatic individuals. Methods: Cross-sectional study based on demographic data and radiographic parameters of asymptomatic individuals. For this study, 16 volunteers, 15 males, and one female were selected, and the average age was 24.6 years. They were submitted to lateral radiographs of the lumbar spine in orthostasis in use of the following positioners: gel cushion, gel cushion with hip extension, four-point Relton-Hall and Wilson-type positioner. Results: The mean LL in the orthostatic position was 58.76º, whereas in the gel cushion positioner it was 52.51; on the gel cushion with hip extension of 58.23º, Relton-Hall/4points 37.63º and, finally, on the Wilson-type positioner of 40.87º. An average reduction of 5.42º of the LL was observed when positioning on the gel cushion in relation to the orthostasis. In the linear regression analysis, the data presented statistically significant results (p<0.05), demonstrating that the L4-S1 segment influences 60% in LL. Conclusion: The positioner with gel cushion and hip extension reproduces an LL similar to physiological values. Relton-Hall and Wilson-type positioners with hip flexion promote hypolordotic positioning compared to basal lordosis in orthostasis. Hip extension alone generated a 5.96º increase in the subject’s lordosis. The L4-S1 segment has a 60% influence on the LL when the individuals are in the positioners. RESUMEN: Objetivo: Evaluar la influencia de los posicionadores quirúrgicos para la lordosis lumbar (LL) en individuos asintomáticos. Métodos: Estudio transversal con datos demográficos y parámetros radiográficos de individuos asintomáticos. Utilizamos 16 voluntarios, 15 hombres y una mujer, edad media de 24,6 años. Sometidos a radiografías laterales de la columna lumbar en ortostasis en los siguientes posicionadores: almohadilla de gel, almohadilla de gel con extensión de cadera, posicionador de cuatro puntos y posicionador tipo Wilson. Resultados: El promedio de LL en posición ortostática fue de 58,76º, en el posicionador de almohadilla de gel fue de 52,51º; en almohadilla de gel con extensión de cadera de 58,23º, 4 puntos 37,63º y, por último, en posicionador tipo Wilson de 40,87º. Se observó una reducción promedio de 5,42º de LL al posicionarse sobre la almohadilla de gel en relación a ortostasis. En el análisis de regresión lineal, los datos presentaron resultados estadísticamente significativos (p<0,05), demostrando que el segmento L4-S1 tiene una influencia de 60% en LL. Conclusión: El posicionador con almohadilla de gel y con extensión de cadera reproduce una LL similar a la fisiológica. Relton-Hall y Wilson con flexión de cadera promueven el posicionamiento hipolordótico en comparación con la lordosis basal. La extensión de la cadera por sí sola fue capaz de generar un aumento de 5,96º en la lordosis. El segmento L4-S1 tiene una influencia del 60% en la LL cuando los individuos están en los posicionadores. Nivel de evidencia III; Estudio Transversal Controlado.

RESUMO: Objetivo: Avaliar a influência dos posicionadores cirúrgicos na lordose lombar (LL) em indivíduos assintomáticos. Métodos: Estudo transversal com dados demográficos e parâmetros radiográficos de indivíduos assintomáticos. Utilizamos 16 voluntários, sendo 15 do gênero masculino e uma do gênero feminino, com idade média de 24,6 anos. Foram submetidos a realização de radiografias em perfil da coluna lombar em ortostase nos seguintes posicionadores: coxim em gel, coxim em gel com extensão do quadril, Relton-Hall em quatro pontos e posicionador tipo Wilson. Resultados: A média de LL na posição ortostática foi de 58,76º, já no posicionador coxim em gel de 52,51; no coxim em gel com extensão dos quadris de 58,23º, Relton-Hall/4pontos 37,63º e, por último, no posicionador tipo Wilson, de 40,87º. Houve redução média de 5,42º da LL ao posicionar no coxim em gel em relação a ortostase, na análise de regressão linear os dados apresentaram resultados estaticamente significativos (p<0,05), demostrando que o seguimento L4-S1 apresenta uma influência de 60% na LL. Conclusão: O posicionador coxins em gel e extensão do quadril reproduz uma LL semelhante à fisiológica. Posicionadores do tipo Relton-Hall e Wilson com flexão do quadril promovem um posicionamento hipolordótico comparada a lordose basal em ortostase. A extensão do quadril por si só foi capaz de gerar um aumento de 5,96º na lordose do indivíduo. O seguimento L4-S1 apresenta uma influência de 60% na LL quando os indivíduos estão nos posicionadores. ABSTRACT Distal femoral metaphyseal fractures are rare in children, and the proximity of the fracture to the growth plate makes their approach challenging. Objective Evaluate outcomes and complications of treatment of distal femoral metaphyseal fractures in children with proximal humeral locking plates. Method Retrospective study between 2018 and 2021, including seven patients. The analysis included general characteristics, trauma mechanism, classification, clinical and radiographic outcomes, and complications. Results The mean follow-up was 20 months, the average age was nine years, five patients were boys, and six fractured on the right side. Five fractures were caused by car accidents, one by falling from their own height and one by playing soccer. Five fractures were classified as 33-M/3.2 and two as 33-M/3.1. Three fractures were open, Gustilo IIIA. All seven patients recovered mobility and resumed their pre-trauma activities. All seven healed, and one fracture was reduced to 5 degrees valgus, without any other complications. Six patients had the implant removed and did not present refracture. Conclusion Treatment of distal femoral metaphyseal fractures with proximal humeral locking plates is a viable option that offers good results and fewer complications, saving the epiphyseal cartilage. Level of Evidence II; Controlled study without randomization.

RESUMO As fraturas metafisárias distais do fêmur são raras em crianças, a proximidade da fratura com a placa de crescimento torna a sua abordagem desafiadora. Objetivo Avaliar resultados e complicações do tratamento das fraturas da metáfise distal do fêmur em crianças com placas de úmero proximal. Método Estudo retrospectivo entre 2018 e 2021 incluindo sete pacientes. A análise incluiu características gerais, mecanismo do trauma, classificação, resultados clínicos, radiográficos e complicações. Resultados A média do acompanhamento foi de 20 meses, a idade média foi de nove anos, cinco pacientes eram meninos e seis fraturas do lado direito. Cinco fraturas por acidentes automobilísticos, uma por queda da própria altura e uma jogando futebol. Cinco fraturas classificadas como 33-M/3,2 e duas como 33-M/3,1. Três fraturas foram expostas, Gustilo IIIA. Todos os sete pacientes recuperaram a mobilidade e retomaram às atividades anteriores ao trauma. Todas as sete fraturas consolidaram, uma fratura foi reduzida com valgo de 5 graus, e não houveram outras complicações. Seis pacientes tiveram o implante removido e não apresentaram refratura. Conclusão O tratamento das fraturas da metáfise distal do fêmur com placas de úmero proximal é uma opção viável que oferece bons resultados com poucas complicações, poupando a cartilagem epifisária. Nível de Evidência II; Estudo controlado sem randomização.

Abstract Primary production is essential in shaping biogeochemical cycles and microbial and ecosystem dynamics. The distribution of chemosynthetic rates in pelagic zones and their participation in the carbon cycle, especially when compared to photosynthetic rates in the Southwestern Atlantic Ocean, are poorly constrained. This study aimed to measure pelagic photo- and chemosynthetic productivity and to analyze their spatial distribution and abiotic drivers. Samples for photosynthesis experiments collected at the surface and deep chlorophyll maximum (DCM) were incubated with 14C-bicarbonate at eight light levels, simulating in situ conditions. Samples for chemosynthesis experiments were collected throughout the water column, from the surface, DCM, 250 m, 900 m, 1,200 m, and 2,300 m, and were incubated in the dark. Rates were analyzed using statistical tests to verify spatial differences between groups of samples and generalized linear models to identify correlations with environmental variables (temperature, salinity, density, mixed layer depth, dissolved oxygen, nitrite, nitrate, silicate, phosphate, turbidity, CDOM, and phycoerythrin and chlorophyll-a concentrations). Moreover, both processes were integrated from the surface to the DCM and compared at the same stations to determine the relative contribution in the epipelagic zone. The photosynthetic and chemosynthetic rates were, on average, 3.00 ± 3.26 mg C m-3 h-1 and 0.97 ± 1.22 mg C m-3 h-1, respectively. In most stations, chemosynthesis represented an average of 10.2% of total primary productivity, but surpassed photosynthesis in three experiments (reaching 63.4 – 78.8%). Photosynthesis displayed a clear offshore-onshore gradient, along with correlated CDOM concentrations, indicating an autochthonous production of the latter. Chemosynthesis, on the other hand, exhibited high variability and lack of prediction by studied environmental variables, with isolated points of substantially higher activity.

Abstract The Santos Basin (SB) is the main petroliferous basin in the Brazilian continental margin and one of the most studied marine areas in Brazil. However, historical data suggest that new efforts should be carried out to acquire quantitative biological data, especially in the deep sea, to establish the baseline of essential ocean variables in different ecosystems for future monitoring programs. The Brazilian energy company Petrobras planned and executed 24 oceanographic cruises over a period of 2 years to assess the benthic (SANSED cruise) and pelagic (SANAGU cruise) systems of the SB (356 days at sea in 2019 and 2021/2022). These efforts were part of the Santos Project, which comprised a comprehensive environmental study aimed at investigating benthic and pelagic variables to characterize ecology, biogeochemistry, thermohaline properties of water masses, and ocean circulation patterns, geomorphology, and sedimentology, as well as organic and inorganic chemistry. Here we present the detailed sampling designs and the field methods employed on board, during the SB scientific cruises. All sampling protocols were based on standardized approaches. For the benthos analyses, triplicate sediment samples were performed using a GOMEX-type box corer (0.25 m²) or a large modified Van Veen grab (0.75 m²) at 100 stations ranging from 25 to 2400 m depth. At each station, 25 geochemical and physico-chemical parameters were analyzed in addition to micro-, meio-, and macrofauna and living foraminifera samples. For the pelagic system, 60 stations were selected to investigate the plankton community, ranging in size from pico- to macroplankton, through vertical, horizontal, and oblique net hauls (20, 200, and 500 μm mesh size), as well as 25 biogeochemical parameters collected with an aid of a CTD-rosette sampler. Part of this scientific information also serves the Regional Environmental Characterization Project (PCR-BS) in support of Petrobras’ Santos Basin drilling licensing process led by the Brazilian Environmental Agency – IBAMA. This project contributes to the sustainable development of the SB, in line with the guidelines of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.

ABSTRACT Objective: To describe the epidemiological profile of the list of patients with pediatric scoliosis (0 to 18 years old) treated at a tertiary public hospital in the Midwest Region. Methods: A cross-sectional analytical study of patients with scoliosis from the orthopedic service of a reference center was carried out, and data collected on age, sex, date of menarche, weight, height, etiology, curve classification, form of referral, treatment performed before and after care and waiting time for surgery after indication. The sample consisted of 60 patients randomly selected among those treated. Results: 60 patients were evaluated, 44 (73.3%) were female, and 16 (26.7%) were male, with a mean age of 13.4 years. Until the moment of the study, six patients underwent surgery after being treated at the reference center. Idiopathic scoliosis was the most frequent in 38 (63%) patients. No conduct had been performed in 47 (78.3%) patients before referral to the reference center. Aftercare at the reference center, surgical treatment was indicated in 44 (73.3%) patients. The mean waiting time for surgery after the indication was 22 months, ranging from 6 to 40 months. Conclusions: The list of patients with pediatric scoliosis treated at the reference center in the Midwest region is composed of young girls with idiopathic scoliosis who, for the most part, did not have the indication of using a brace before being referred to the reference center, and most of them had an indication for surgery for adequate treatment. RESUMEN Objetivo: Describir el perfil epidemiológico de pacientes con escoliosis pediátrica (0 a 18 años) atendidos en un hospital público terciario de la Región Centro Oeste. Métodos: Se realizó un estudio analítico transversal de pacientes con escoliosis del servicio de ortopedia del centro de referencia y se recogieron datos sobre edad, sexo, fecha de la menarquia, peso, talla, etiología, clasificación de la curva, forma de derivación, tratamiento realizado antes y después de la atención y el tiempo de espera para la cirugía después de la indicación. La muestra estuvo constituida por 60 pacientes seleccionados aleatoriamente. Resultados: De los 60 pacientes, 44 (73,3%) eran mujeres y 16 (26,7%) hombres, con edad media de 13,4 años. Hasta el momento del estudio, seis pacientes fueron intervenidos quirúrgicamente. La escoliosis idiopática fue la más frecuente, en 38 (63%) pacientes. En 47 (78,3%) pacientes no se había realizado ninguna conducta antes de la derivación al centro de referencia. Tras la atención en el centro de referencia, se indicó tratamiento quirúrgico en 44 (73,3%) pacientes. El tiempo medio de espera de la cirugía fue de 22 meses, con un rango de 6 a 40 meses. Conclusiones: La lista de pacientes con escoliosis pediátrica atendidos en el único centro de referencia de la región Centro Oeste está compuesta por niñas jóvenes, quienes en su mayor parte no tenían indicación de uso de ortesis, y la mayoría tenía indicación de cirugía para un adecuado tratamiento. A amostra foi composta por 60 pacientes selecionados randomicamente. Resultados: Dos 60 pacientes avaliados, 44 (73,3%) eram do sexo feminino e 16 (26,7%) do sexo masculino, com idade média de 13,4 anos. Até o momento do estudo, seis pacientes foram submetidos a cirurgia após o atendimento no centro de referência. A escoliose idiopática foi a mais frequente em 38 (63%) pacientes. Nenhuma conduta havia sido realizada em 47 (78,3%) pacientes antes do encaminhamento ao centro de referência. Após o atendimento no centro de referência, o tratamento cirúrgico foi indicado em 44 (73,3%) pacientes. O tempo médio de espera pela cirurgia após a indicação foi de 22 meses, variando de 6 a 40 meses. Conclusões: A lista de pacientes com escoliose pediátrica atendidos no único centro de referência da região Centro-oeste é composta por meninas jovens, com escoliose idiopática, que em grande parte não tiveram a indicação do uso de colete antes do encaminhamento ao centro de referência, e tiveram em sua maioria indicação de cirurgia para tratamento adequado. ABSTRACT The literature on hemodynamic responses during inspiratory muscle exercise (IME) lacks a consensus. To evaluate and compare hemodynamic responses during an IME session with and without resistive load, 15 sedentary men were subjected to two randomized IME sessions: one with 40% of maximal inspiratory pressure (IME 40%) and another without a resistive load (Sham), both of which were performed for two minutes over eight sessions with one-minute intervals. Systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), mean blood pressure (MBP), total peripheral resistance (TPR), stroke volume (SV), cardiac output (CO), and heart rate (HR) were measured by infrared digital photoplethysmography during five basal minutes and during the IME sessions. One-way analysis of variance and the Student’s t test for paired data were used to analyze hemodynamic response and delta values between sessions. Effect size was evaluated by Cohen’s D. A 5% significance level was adopted. SBP responses (sham: ∆−1±2 vs. 40%: ∆−4±2mmHg, p=0.27), DBP (sham: ∆2±1 vs. 40%: ∆1±2mmHg, p=0.60) and MBP (sham: ∆2±1 vs. 40%: ∆0±2mmHg, p=0.28) were similar between sessions. HR increases were higher in the 40% IME session than in the sham session (sham: ∆9±2 vs. 40%: ∆3±2bpm, p=0.001). SV only decreased during the sham session but responses were similar between sessions (sham: ∆−2±2 vs. IME 40%: ∆−6±2ml, p=0.13). Both sessions did not change SBP, DBP, MBP, CO, and TPR, but we observed a greater increase in HR in the IME 40% session. Only the Sham session decreased SV.

RESUMEN No hay consenso en la literatura sobre las respuestas hemodinámicas durante el ejercicio muscular inspiratorio (EMI). El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar y comparar las respuestas hemodinámicas durante una sesión de EMI con y sin carga resistiva. Para ello, quince hombres sedentarios recibieron dos sesiones aleatorias de EMI: el 40% de la presión inspiratoria máxima (EMI 40%) y sin carga resistiva (sham), realizadas durante dos minutos, ocho sesiones y a intervalos de un minuto. La presión arterial sistólica (PAS), la presión arterial diastólica (PAD), la presión arterial media (PAM), la resistencia periférica total (RPT), el volumen sistólico (VS), el gasto cardíaco (GC) y la frecuencia cardíaca (FC) se midieron mediante fotopletismografía infrarroja digital durante cinco minutos al inicio y durante las sesiones de EMI. Se utilizaron ANOVA unidireccional y la prueba t de Student a datos emparejados para analizar la respuesta hemodinámica y los valores delta entre las sesiones. El tamaño del efecto se evaluó por el d de Cohen. El nivel de significancia adoptado fue de 5%. Las respuestas de PAS (sham: Δ−1±2 vs. 40%: ∆−4±2mmHg, p=0,27), PAD (sham: ∆2±1 vs. 40%: ∆1±2mmHg, p=0,60) y PAM (sham: ∆2±1 vs. 40%: ∆0±2mmHg, p=0,28) fueron similares entre las sesiones. El incremento de la FC fue mayor en la sesión de EMI 40% comparada con la sesión sham (sham: Δ9±2 vs. 40%: ∆3±2bpm, p=0,001). El VS tuvo una disminución exclusiva durante la sesión sham, pero la respuesta fue similar entre las sesiones (sham: Δ−2±2 vs. EMI 40%: ∆−6±2ml, p=0,13). Ambas sesiones no tuvieron cambios en las variables PAS, PAD, PAM, DC y RPT, pero se observó un mayor incremento de la FC en la sesión EMI 40%. Solamente en la sesión sham hubo una reducción del VS.

RESUMO A literatura carece de um consenso sobre respostas hemodinâmicas durante o exercício muscular inspiratório (EMI). Este estudo buscou avaliar e comparar as respostas hemodinâmicas durante uma sessão de EMI com e sem carga resistiva. Para tanto, 15 homens sedentários foram submetidos a duas sessões randomizadas de EMI: 40% da pressão inspiratória máxima (EMI 40%) e sem carga resistiva (sham), realizadas por dois minutos em oito sessões e com intervalos de um minuto. A pressão arterial sistólica (PAS), pressão arterial diastólica (PAD), pressão arterial média (PAM), resistência periférica total (RPT), volume sistólico (VS), débito cardíaco (DC) e frequência cardíaca (FC) foram medidos por fotopletismografia infravermelha digital por cinco minutos basais e durante as sessões de EMI. Anova de uma via e o teste t de Student para dados pareados foram usados para analisar a resposta hemodinâmica e os valores delta entre as sessões. O tamanho do efeito foi avaliado pelo d de Cohen. Adotou-se nível de significância de 5%. As respostas de PAS (sham: ∆−1±2 vs. 40%: ∆−4±2mmHg, p=0,27), PAD (sham: ∆2±1 vs. 40%: ∆1±2mmHg, p=0,60) e PAM (sham: ∆2±1 vs. 40%: ∆0±2mmHg, p=0,28) foram semelhantes entre as sessões. Os aumentos da FC foram maiores na sessão de EMI 40% do que nas sessões sham (sham: ∆9±2 vs. 40%: ∆3±2bpm, p=0,001). O VS diminuiu exclusivamente durante a sessão sham mas a resposta foi semelhante entre as sessões (sham: ∆−2±2 vs. EMI 40%: ∆−6±2ml, p=0,13). Ambas as sessões não causaram alteração nas variáveis PAS, PAD, PAM, DC e RPT, mas notamos um aumento maior da FC na sessão EMI 40%. Apenas a sessão sham reduziu o VS.
