ABSTRACT Managing electrical conductivity levels is one of the fundamentals required to obtain greater production and better quality of vegetables. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of electrical conductivity of the nutrient solution on the kohlrabi crop cultivated in semi-hydroponic system. A randomized block design was used with five treatments associated with the electrical conductivity of the nutrient solution (1.31, 1.71, 2.37, 2.98, and 3.75 dS m-1) and four replications. The plants were harvested 78 days after transplanting and evaluated for growth, production, and postharvest quality. Nutrient solution with electrical conductivity (EC) of 1.31 dS m-1 promotes greater production of purple kohlrabi. The increase in EC reduced linearly most of the analyzed variables (leaf area, fresh mass of leaves, bulb and shoot, dry mass of leaves and total, bulb volume and firmness), with more significant losses for the bulb fresh mass (50.54%) and bulb volume (57.37%) variables. The use of nutrient solution with EC between 2.3 and 2.9 dS m-1 increased the vitamin C content and the titratable acidity.

RESUMO O manejo dos níveis de condutividade elétrica é um dos fundamentos necessários para se obter maior produção e melhor qualidade de hortaliças. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito da condutividade elétrica da solução nutritiva na cultura da couve-rábano cultivada em sistema semi-hidropônico. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos casualizados com cinco tratamentos associados à condutividade elétrica da solução nutritiva (1,31; 1,71; 2,37; 2,98 e 3,75 dS m-1) e quatro repetições. As plantas foram colhidas 78 dias após o transplante e avaliadas quanto ao crescimento, produção e qualidade pós-colheita. Solução nutritiva com condutividade elétrica (CE) de 1,31 dS m-1 proporciona maior produção de couve-rábano roxa. O aumento da CE reduziu linearmente a maioria das variáveis analisadas (área foliar, massa fresca de folhas, bulbos e parte aérea, massa seca de folhas e totais, volume e firmeza de bulbos), com perdas mais expressivas para as variáveis massa fresca de bulbos (50,54%) e volume de bulbos (57,37%). A utilização de solução nutritiva com CE entre 2,3 e 2,9 dS m-1 aumentou o teor de vitamina C e a acidez titulável.

ABSTRACT The selection of lima bean accessions in the fresh and dry stages is an excellent tool to increase crop yield in Brazil and ensure a source of vegetable protein for the population. Principal component analysis and nonparametric indices can be used to identify promising accessions based on the desired agronomic variables. The aim of the present study was to select accessions from traditional lima bean varieties in the fresh and dry stages using principal component analysis and nonparametric selection indices. The experiment consisted of a randomized block design, evaluating 13 treatments in four replicates. The experimental plot contained 20 plants in its study area. The first two principal components for the two stages explained more than 80% of the variation found among the accessions. The Mulamba & Mock and Genotype-Ideotype selection indices were efficient in classifying promising varieties for breeding programs. The UFPI 1111 accession can be used in fresh lima bean production, and its UFPI 1248 and 1294 counterparts in lima bean breeding programs.

RESUMO A seleção de acessos de feijão-fava nos estádios verde e seco é uma excelente ferramenta para aumentar a produtividade da cultura no país e garantir uma fonte de proteína vegetal para a população. O uso de componentes principais e índices de seleção não-paramétricos podem ser utilizados para identificar acessos promissores com base em características agronômicas desejáveis. O objetivo do presente estudo foi selecionar acessos de variedades crioulas de feijão-fava nos estádios frescos e secos utilizando componentes principais e índices de seleção não paramétricos. O experimento foi disposto em delineamento em blocos casualizados, sendo avaliados 13 tratamentos em quatro repetições. A parcela experimental conteve 20 plantas em sua área útil. Os dois primeiros componentes principais, para os dois estádios, explicaram mais de 80% da variação encontrada entre os acessos. Os índices de seleção de Mulamba & Mock e Genótipo-Ideótipo foram eficientes na classificação de variedades promissoras para programas de melhoramento. O acesso UFPI 1111 pode ser direcionado para a produção de fava verde, e os acessos UFPI 1248 e UFPI 1294 podem ser utilizados para programas de melhoramento de fava seca.

Abstract This study aimed to determine the biometric characteristics of seeds of Tabebuia aurea and evaluate the effect of different periods of water immersion on the initial growth of seedlings. For this, the following dimensions were analyzed: length, width, and thickness of seeds with lateral wings and embryo. The moisture content, weight of a thousand seeds, and the number of seeds per kilogram were determined. The seeds were subjected to 11 treatments, as follow: control (no immersion in water; 0 hours) and periods of water immersion for 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 42, 48, 54, and 60 hours, with four replications of 25 seeds in each treatment. The aerial part and seedling root lengths were analyzed 30 days after sowing. The water content was 9.81% and the weight of a thousand seeds was 130.260 g, corresponding to about 7,677 seeds/kg. The seeds with lateral wings had mean length, width, and thickness of 5.252, 1.226, and 0.147 cm, respectively. For the embryo, these dimensions corresponded to 1.355, 0.805, and 0.103 cm. Regarding the aerial part and root length of T. aurea seedlings, immersion for 48 hours is recommended because this treatment had the best results.

ABSTRACT Wastewater reuse is an alternative for irrigated agriculture in semi-arid regions, due to water support and nutritional supply. Thus, the objective was to evaluate biomass production and nutrient contents in three cultivars of Panicum maximum irrigated with fish farming effluent. The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse, with a complete randomized block design in a split-splitplot scheme. The plot consisted of three types of irrigation management (public-supply water (control), control + conventional fertilization, and irrigation with fish farming effluent). The subplot consisted of three cultivars of P. maximum (Tanzania, Mombasa, and Massai). The sub-subplot consisted of four cutting times (45, 90, 135, and 180 days after sowing). At each cutting time, biomass production and nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, sodium, iron, copper, manganese, and zinc contents were determined. Irrigation with fish farming effluent increases sodium content in all P. maximum cultivars and causes reduction in biomass production. The salinity of fish farming effluent increased calcium, magnesium, iron, manganese, and zinc contents in the tissues.

RESUMO O reuso de águas residuárias é uma alternativa para a agricultura irrigada em regiões semiáridas, devido ao suporte hídrico e aporte nutricional. Assim, objetivou-se avaliar a produção de biomassa e a concentração de nutrientes em três cultivares de Panicum maximum irrigadas com efluente da piscicultura. A pesquisa foi conduzida em casa de vegetação, com delineamento em blocos casualizados completos em esquema de parcelas subsubdividida no tempo. A parcela foi constituída por três manejos de irrigação (água de abastecimento (testemunha), testemunha + adubação convencional e irrigação com efluente da piscicultura). A sub-parcela foi constituída por três cultivares de P. maximum (Tanzânia, Mombaça e Massai). A sub-subparcela foi composta por quatro tempos de corte (45, 90, 135 e 180 dias após a semeadura). Em cada tempo de corte foram determinadas a produção de biomassa e as concentrações de nitrogênio, fósforo, potássio, cálcio, magnésio, sódio, ferro, cobre, manganês e zinco. A irrigação com efluente da piscicultura aumenta o teor de sódio de todas as cultivares de P. maximum, o que acarretou redução na produção de biomassa. A salinidade do efluente da piscicultura aumentou os teores de cálcio, magnésio, ferro, manganês e zinco nos tecidos.

RESUMO Um eficiente manejo da água na irrigação é fundamental para a otimização da eficiência hídrica, especialmente quando se utiliza águas salobras. Neste sentido, o presente estudo foi desenvolvido com o objetivo de avaliar as trocas gasosas, produção de vagens e grãos e o estado hídrico de plantas de amendoim sob níveis crescentes de salinidade (condutividade elétrica de 0,12; 1,6; 2,8; 4,0 e 5,2 dS m-1) e a aplicação da lâmina de irrigação via pulsos. O delineamento experimental adotado foi em blocos ao acaso, analisado em esquema fatorial 5 × 2 com quatro repetições, totalizando quarenta unidades experimentais. O experimento foi realizado em lisímetros de drenagem, na Universidade Federal Rural de Pernambuco, em campo aberto, entre os meses de setembro a novembro de 2019. O uso de pulsos de irrigação não mitigou o efeito deletério da salinidade, mas proporcionou maior produção de grãos e vagens em relação ao gotejo contínuo. A aplicação de águas salobras via gotejamento por pulsos proporcionou maior eficiência de uso da água em relação ao gotejo contínuo e o aumento da condutividade elétrica da água reduziu os potenciais hídrico, de pressão e osmótico, bem como no ajustamento osmótico.

ABSTRACT An efficient water management in irrigation is essential to optimize water efficiency, especially when using brackish water. Thus, the present study was carried out aiming to analyze gas exchanges, pod production, and the water status of peanut plants under increasing levels of salinity (electrical conductivity of 0.12, 1.6, 2.8, 4.0, and 5.2 dS m-1) and the application of the irrigation depth via pulses. A randomized block design in a 5 × 2 factorial scheme was used with four replications, adding up to forty experimental units. The experiment was carried out in drainage lysimeters, at the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco, in open fields from September to November 2019. It was concluded that the use of pulse drip irrigation did not mitigate the deleterious effect of salinity but promoted higher grain and pod production compared to continuous drip irrigation. It was also found that the use of brackish water via pulse drip irrigation promotes greater water use efficiency compared to continuous drip irrigation, and that the increase in the electrical conductivity of the water reduced the water, pressure, and osmotic potentials, along with the osmotic adjustment.

RESUMO A análise da fluorescência da clorofila é uma das muitas formas de quantificar o dano salino no desempenho fotossintético e na produção agrícola. Assim, o presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a eficiência fotoquímica e a produção do coentro, cultivar Verdão em função dos níveis de condutividades elétricas da solução nutritiva e da natureza catiônica. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos ao acaso, em esquema fatorial 4 × 3, com quatro repetições. Os tratamentos consistiram na exposição das plantas a quatro condutividades elétricas das soluções nutritivas (CEsn = 1,6; 3,2; 4,8 e 6,4 dS m-1) e três tipos de águas de diferentes naturezas catiônicas (Na+; Ca2+; Mg2+), preparadas com a solubilização de diferentes sais - NaCl, CaCl2.2H2O e MgCl2.6H2O em água de abastecimento da UFRPE (CEa = 0,12 dS m-1). O estudo foi realizado em casa de vegetação entre novembro e dezembro de 2019 no Laboratório de Fertirrigação e Salinidade do Departamento de Engenharia Agronômica da Universidade Federal Rural de Pernambuco. O aumento da condutividade elétrica da solução nutritiva afetou os centros de reação, a atividade fotoquímica, a eficiência da carboxilação e resultou na redução da condutância estomática, da taxa de assimilação de CO2 e, portanto, na produção de biomassa do coentro. Diferentes prevalências catiônicas na água proporcionam diferenças na intensidade do dano salino, sobretudo com o aumento da concentração.

ABSTRACT The analysis of chlorophyll fluorescence is one of many ways to quantify the salt damage to photosynthetic performance and crop production. Thus, the present study aimed to evaluate the photochemical efficiency and production of coriander, cultivar ‘Verdão’, as a function of the electrical conductivity levels of the nutrient solution and the cationic nature. The experimental design was in randomized blocks, in a 4 × 3 factorial scheme, with four replicates. The treatments consisted of four electrical conductivities of the nutrient solutions (ECns = 1.6, 3.2, 4.8, and 6.4 dS m-1) and three kinds of water of different cationic natures (Na+; Ca2+; Mg2+), which were prepared with the dissolution of different salts - NaCl, CaCl2.2H2O, and MgCl2.6H2O in supply water (ECw = 0.12 dS m-1), that is, three predominant cationic natures. The study was carried out in a greenhouse between November and December 2019 at the Fertigation and Salinity Laboratory of the Agricultural Engineering Department of the Universidade Federal Rural de Pernambuco. It was found that the increase in the electrical conductivity of the nutrient solution affected reaction centers, photochemical activity, and carboxylation efficiency and resulted in reductions in stomatal conductance, CO2 assimilation rate, and therefore, in the biomass production of coriander. Different cationic prevalence in water causes differences in the intensity of salt damage, especially with increasing concentration.

Abstract Since the first reported case of COVID-19 in Brazil, the public and private educational system started to close. Up to November 2020, scientific discussions about the return of schooling activities have been rarely performed by the national scientific community and police-makers. The great delay of school returning in Brazil contrasts with successful international strategies of school reopening worldwide and seems counterintuitive with the reopening of non-essential activities. Here, important issues to be considered before and during school reopening are reviewed and discussed. COVID-19 testing is essential to avoid disease spreading, but high cost of individual RT-qPCRs impairs an extensive testing strategy for school returning. To reduce costs and increase the speed of diagnosis, we tested the efficiency of a pooled-sample PCR strategy in a cohort of the educational staff in the city of Macaé/RJ, finding five asymptomatic individuals (0,66%) among the 754 people tested. Thus, a polled-sample PCR testing strategy of the educational staff might prevent infection spreading in schools at a reasonable cost. We discuss how our test strategy could be coupled with internationally recognized safety rules to allow for a safe school return and how countries from different world regions are dealing with educational activities during COVID-19 pandemic.

This study aimed to develop a reliable stability-indicating method (SIM) for amoxicillin 500 mg capsules (DP-drug product). A literature review addressing amoxicillin (AMX; DS-drug substance) forced degradation studies and the existing SIMs was conducted to verify the most significant outcomes. Subsequently, the forced degradation of DP and DS was carried out following the Brazilian Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) guidelines, including thermal degradation (dry and wet heat), acidic and alkaline hydrolyses, hydrogen peroxide oxidation, reaction with copper, and photodegradation. Both DS and DP were more susceptible to 0.015 M NaOH, resulting in approximately 50% degradation. AMX DS and DP were not significantly photodegraded, but some degradation products (PDegs) showed susceptibility to light exposure. Thermodegraded samples showing ≥ 10% degradation exhibited modified profiles in thermogravimetric (TG) and differential scanning calorimetric (DSC) analyses. The X-ray powder diffraction patterns (XRPD) of DS samples exposed to dry and wet heat displayed complete amorphization of AMX, attesting to the occurrence of physical degradation concomitantly with chemical degradation, which can alter the drug’s bioavailability. In contrast, the thermodegraded DP samples exhibited intact AMX crystals interspersed with the amorphous form, perhaps partly protected by the excipient. The validated SIM was able to detect and quantify about 80 PDegs.

RESUMO Adequada nutrição potássica e cálcica é uma estratégia para reduzir o estresse salino sobre o tomateiro, pois reduz o desbalanço nutricional nas plantas. Com o objetivo de avaliar a produção do tomate utilizando irrigação com águas salinas, e fertigação com diferentes proporções potássio-cálcio, realizou-se um experimento em ambiente protegido em Mossoró, RN. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi em blocos casualizados, em esquema fatorial 5 x 4, com quatro repetições. Os tratamentos consistiram em combinações de quatro condutividade elétricas da solução nutritiva (ECns) (1,75; 3,25; 4,75 e 6,25 dS m-1) com cinco proporções iônicas (m/m) de potássio e cálcio (F1 = 2.43:1; F2 = 2.03:1; F3 = 1.62:1; F4 = 1.30:1 and F5 = 1.08:1). As variáveis resposta foram: número de frutos, peso médio de fruto, produção de frutos por planta e produção relativa. Foi possível identificar resultados de produção satisfatórios quando se usa uma maior salinidade. O uso de fertigação com baixas proporções K+/Ca2+ potencializa o efeito da salinidade sobre a cultura do tomateiro.

ABSTRACT Adequate potassium and calcium nutrition is a strategy to reduce salt stress on tomatoes, as it reduces nutritional imbalance in plants. With the objective of evaluating tomato production using irrigation with saline waters and fertigation with different potassium-calcium proportions, an experiment was carried out in a protected environment in Mossoró, RN, Brazil. The experimental design used was randomized blocks, in a 5 x 4 factorial scheme, with four replicates. The treatments consisted of the combination of four electrical conductivity of nutrient solution (ECns) (1.75; 3.25; 4.75; and 6.25 dS m-1) combined with five ionic proportions (m/m) of potassium and calcium (F1 = 2.43:1; F2 = 2.03:1; F3 = 1.62:1; F4 = 1.30:1 and F5 = 1.08:1). The response variables were: number of fruits, mean fruit weight, fruit production per plant and relative yield. It was possible to identify satisfactory results of production when higher salinity was used. Fertigation with low K+/Ca2+ proportions intensifies the effect of salinity on tomato crop.

RESUMO O sorgo apresenta grande importância econômica para o Nordeste brasileiro, por ter alta capacidade em desenvolver-se em regiões com distribuição irregular de chuvas e alta temperatura, sendo uma alternativa à cultura do milho, que possui maior exigência hídrica. Apesar de ser uma cultura de tradição na região, há poucos estudos para o manejo da irrigação na chapada do Apodi. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi determinar a evapotranspiração da cultura, o coeficiente de cultivo para os diferentes estádios de crescimento do sorgo em dois ciclos e obter uma relação entre o Kc e o Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) obtidos por radiometria. Para estimar a evapotranspiração da cultura (ETc) foram utilizados dois lisímetros de pesagem. A evapotranspiração de referência (ETo) foi estimada pelo método de Penman-Monteith (FAO) e o coeficiente de cultivo foi obtido por duas metodologias, Kc simples e Kc dual. Os valores da evapotranspiração total da cultura, nos dois ciclos, foram 452 e 557 mm. O valor da ETc foi 23% maior no segundo ciclo em relação ao primeiro. Os valores de Kc máximo obtidos para o primeiro e segundo ciclos foram 1,21 e 1,35, respectivamente, utilizando-se a metodologia do Kc dual. A relação linear encontrada entre os valores de Kc e o NDVI permite monitorar e estimar as necessidades hídricas da cultura.

ABSTRACT Sorghum is of significant economic importance for Northeastern Brazil, since it exhibits high growth rates in regions with irregular rainfall distribution and high temperatures, and is an alternative to corn, which has greater water requirements. Despite being a traditional crop in the region, there are few studies on irrigation management in the Apodi plateau. The aim of this study was to determine the evapotranspiration of the crop and the crop coefficient (Kc) for the different stages of sorghum growth in two cycles, and establish the relationship between the Kc and the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) obtained by radiometry. Two weighing lysimeters were used to estimate crop evapotranspiration (ETc). Reference evapotranspiration (ETo) was estimated by the Penman-Monteith method (FAO) and the crop coefficient determined using two methodologies: simple Kc and dual Kc. Total crop evapotranspiration in the two cycles was 452 and 557 mm. The ETc value was 23% higher in the second cycle compared to the first. The maximum Kc values for the first and second cycles were 1.21 and 1.35, respectively, using the dual Kc methodology. The linear relationship found between the Kc values and the NDVI allows monitoring and estimating the water requirements of the crop.

RESUMO O cultivo em substrato vem ganhando interesse dos produtores de hortaliças, entretanto ainda são recentes as informações técnicas para muitas culturas, a exemplo do maxixeiro, especialmente quanto à solução nutritiva. Este estudo foi desenvolvido com o objetivo de avaliar o desempenho de três cultivares de maxixeiro (Do Norte, Liso de Calcutá e Liso Gibão) cultivadas em fibra de coco e fertigadas com soluções nutritivas de diferentes concentrações de nutrientes (50, 75, 100 e 125% da recomendação para o meloeiro), utilizando o delineamento de blocos casualizados, em esquema fatorial 3 × 4, com quatro repetições e parcelas constituídas por três plantas. Avaliaram-se variáveis de crescimento e produtividade. De forma geral, a cv. Liso de Calcutá produziu frutos mais pesados (35,69 g fruto-1), contudo a cv. Liso Gibão produziu em média 21,6 frutos planta-1 apresentando-se mais produtiva (542,19 g planta-1). As cultivares Do Norte e Liso de Calcutá são menos exigentes em nutrientes. Para obter o maior rendimento de frutos do maxixeiro cultivado em fibra de coco devem-se realizar as fertigações utilizando soluções nutritivas com 50% da concentração de nutrientes para as cultivares Do Norte e Liso de Calcutá, enquanto para a cv. Liso Gibão recomenda-se utilizar solução nutritiva com 75% da concentração de nutrientes recomendada para o cultivo do meloeiro.

ABSTRACT Substrate cultivation has been gaining interest from vegetable producers, however technical information for many crops is still recent, such as the gherkin, especially regarding the nutrient solution. This study was developed with the objective of evaluating the performance of three gherkin cultivars (Do Norte, Liso de Calcutá and Liso Gibão) grown in coconut fiber and fertigated with nutrient solutions of different concentrations (50, 75, 100 and 125% of the recommendation for melon), using a randomized block design, in a 3 x 4 factorial scheme, with four repetitions and plots composed of three plants. Growth and production variables were evaluated. In general, cv. Liso de Calcutá produced heavier fruits (35.69 g fruit-1), however cv. Liso Gibão produced an average of 21.6 fruits plant-1, being more productive (542.19 g planta-1). The cultivars Do Norte and Liso de Calcutá were less demanding on nutrients. In order to obtain the highest production of gherkin fruits cultivated in coconut fiber, fertigations must be carried out using nutrient solutions diluted in 50% for the cultivars Do Norte and Liso de Calcutá, while for cv. Liso Gibão it is recommended to use nutrient solution diluted in 75% of the concentration of nutrients recommended for the cultivation of melon.

RESUMO O uso da fertigação como meio de suprimento das necessidades nutritivas das culturas é uma técnica amplamente difundida entre os produtores. Contudo, a necessidade de aprimoramento desta técnica se faz necessário devido, principalmente, aos riscos de contaminação dos recursos naturais. Assim, objetivou-se estudar a produtividade e os teores foliares de nutrientes do meloeiro e fertilidade do solo que apresenta alta concentração de potássio, quando fertigado com doses de nitrogênio e potássio na água de irrigação. Aplicaram-se cinco tratamentos dispostos em blocos casualizados com seis repetições. Os tratamentos consistiram nas combinações de concentrações, em mg L-1, de nitrogênio (N) e potássio (K) aplicadas na água de irrigação (0-0), (50-0), (50-54), (0-54) e (100-108). Foram avaliados os teores foliares de nutrientes do meloeiro aos 35 dias após o plantio, e a produtividade e a fertilidade do solo por ocasião da colheita. O meloeiro cultivado em solo com nível alto de K e aplicação de 18 kg ha-1 de N em fundação não aumentou a produção quando fertirrigado com nitrogênio e potássio. Embora teores de K, Fe e B variou entre as doses de N e K aplicadas as plantas não apresentaram deficiência nutricional. As aplicações de fertilizantes em doses crescentes contribuem para o acúmulo de sais no solo, aumentando o risco de salinização.

ABSTRACT The use of fertigation as a means of supplying the nutritional needs of crops is a technique widely used among producers. However, it is necessary to improve this technique due, mainly, to the risks of contamination of natural resources. Thus, the objective was to study the productivity and leaf contents of melon nutrients and soil fertility, which presents a high concentration of potassium, when fertigated with doses of nitrogen and potassium in the irrigation water. Five treatments were arranged in randomized blocks with six repetitions. Treatments consisted of combinations of concentrations, in mg L-1, of nitrogen (N) and potassium (K) applied in irrigation water (0-0), (50-0), (50-54), (0-54) and (100-108). The leaf concentrations of nutrients of melon were evaluated at 35 days after planting, and fruit yield and soil fertility at harvest time. The melon cultivated in soil with a high level of K and basal application of 18 kg ha-1 of N in the foundation did not increase production, when fertirrigated with nitrogen and potassium. Although the contents of K, Fe and B varied between the doses of N and K applied, the plants did not have nutritional deficiency. Fertilizer applications in increasing doses contribute to the accumulation of salts in the soil, increasing the risk of salinization.

RESUMO O reuso de água é uma prática importante no gerenciamento dos recursos hídricos, especialmente nas zonas áridas e semiáridas. Com isso, objetivou-se avaliar o estado nutricional e a massa do capulho do algodoeiro herbáceo (cultivar BRS 335) quando fertigado com efluente de esgoto doméstico e adubação fosfatada. Um experimento foi conduzido em delineamento de blocos ao acaso, em esquema fatorial 3 × 2, com seis repetições. As plantas de algodão foram fertigadas com três soluções contendo efluente de esgoto doméstico (AR) e água de abastecimento (AA) nas proporções de 100% de AA - T1, 50% AA + 50% AR - T2 e 100% AR - T3 e, dois manejos da adubação fosfatada (com adubação e sem adubação fosfatada em pré-plantio). Foram avaliados os teores de macronutrientes e micronutrientes nas folhas e a massa de capulho. A fertigação com água de reuso é viável para suprir a demanda hídrica e parte da demanda nutricional do algodoeiro. A água de reuso não atendeu aos requisitos totais de Ca, Cu, Fe e Zn do algodão, portanto, recomenda-se a suplementação mineral complementar com esses nutrientes para que a cultura obtenha alto rendimento.

ABSTRACT Water reuse is an important practice in water resource management especially in arid and semi-arid areas. The objective was to evaluate the mineral composition and boll weight of upland cotton (cultivar BRS 335) plants under fertigation with domestic sewage effluent and phosphate fertilization. An experiment was carried out using randomized block design in a 3 × 2 factorial scheme with six repetitions. Cotton plants were fertigated with three fertigation solutions containing domestic sewage effluent (RW) and supply water (SW) in the proportions of 100% SW - T1, 50% SW + 50% RW - T2 and 100% RW - T3, and two phosphate fertilizer managements (with and without phosphate fertilization at pre-planting). Macronutrient and micronutrient concentrations in the shoots and boll weight were measured and evaluated. Fertigation utilizing reuse water is able to supply both water and part of the nutritional demand of cotton plants. Calcium, copper, iron and zinc concentrations in cotton leaves were below the optimum range for the crop. Reuse water did not meet the total requirements of Ca, Cu, Fe and Zn of cotton, so complementary mineral supplementation with these nutrients is recommended for the crop to obtain high yield.

RESUMO Objetivou-se, com este estudo, avaliar a uniformidade de distribuição em unidades gotejadoras aplicando diluições de água tratada produzida pela exploração do petróleo. O experimento foi montado no delineamento inteiramente casualizado em esquema de parcelas sub-subdivididas, com três repetições; tendo nas parcelas os tratamentos P0 - 100% de água subterrânea, controle; P10 - 90% de água subterrânea e 10% de água produzida; P20 - 80% de água subterrânea e 20% de água produzida; P30 - 70% de água subterrânea e 30% de água produzida; e P40 - 60% de água subterrânea e 40% de água produzida; nas subparcelas os tipos de gotejadores não autocompensantes (D1 - 1,6 L h-1, Netafim Super Typhoon, D2 - 1,6 L h-1, Netafim Streamline e D3 - 1,7 L h-1, NaanDanJain TalDrip) e nas subsubparcelas os tempos de avaliação (0, 40, 80, 120 e 160 h). Foram avaliados os coeficientes de uniformidade de distribuição e de uniformidade estatístico a cada 40 h, até completar 160 h. O pH das diluições foi o atributo que representou maior risco de obstrução aos emissores. Ainda em relação às diluições, P40 ocasionou maior desuniformidade de aplicação em D2, enquanto, os maiores valores de uniformidade de aplicação foram alcançados nos tratamentos P10 e P20 em D1 e D3, indicando eficácia da diluição na minimização da obstrução.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the uniformity of distribution in drip units applying dilutions of treated water produced by oil exploration. The experiment was set up in a completely randomized design in a split-split-plot scheme, with three replicates. The plots were composed of the treatments P0 - 100% groundwater, control; P10 - 90% groundwater and 10% produced water; P20 - 80% groundwater and 20% produced water; P30 - 70% groundwater and 30% produced water; and P40 - 60% groundwater and 40% produced water; the subplots had the types of non-pressure compensating drippers (D1 - 1.6 L h-1, Netafim Super Typhoon, D2 - 1.6 L h-1, Netafim Streamline and D3 - 1.7 L h-1, NaanDanJain TalDrip); and the sub-subplots contained the evaluation times (0, 40, 80, 120 and 160 h). Distribution uniformity and statistical uniformity coefficients were evaluated every 40 h, until completing 160 h. The pH of the dilutions was the attribute posing the highest risk of clogging to the emitters. Also in relation to dilutions, P40 caused greater application non-uniformity in D2, while the highest values of application uniformity were achieved in treatments P10 and P20 with D1 and D3, indicating the effectiveness of dilution in minimizing clogging.

Abstract Lysosomal storage disorders (LSDs) are a group of genetic disorders characterized by deficiency of specific lysosomal enzymes. In general, patients are clinically normal at birth, and progressively develop severe signs and symptoms. Diagnosis is usually made several years after onset of manifestations, preventing patients to have the benefits of the early treatment. Newborn screening programs are being considered for LSDs to allow early diagnosis and treatment. The present study evaluated the feasibility of a customized screening approach based on modified fluorometric assays with reduced amounts of reagents, substrates and samples for: mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) type I (MPS I), MPS VI, Fabry, Gaucher, and Pompe diseases. We also evaluated the advantages of including blood chitotriosidase and urinary glycosaminoglycans in the protocol. By the measurement of the specific disease-associated enzymes (plus blood chitotriosidase and urinary glycosaminoglycans) we analyzed 834 de-identified DBS of unselected newborns. No positive case was detected, and the false-positive rates were low. Taking into consideration the limitations of this methodology, we believe that, after defining proper cutoffs, it could be a viable alternative to provide NBS for LSDs by laboratories that may not be able to afford the commercial methods available.
