ABSTRACT: This research evaluated the agronomic performance through mixed models, and determined the genetic divergence between black oat genotypes. The experiment was carried out at Federal University of Santa Maria, Frederico Westphalen/RS. Fourteen black oat genotypes were evaluated, being 11 lines developed by Breeding Program of University, and three commercial cultivars (IAPAR 61, UPFA 21 - Moreninha and, IPR Cabocla). We evaluated quantitative traits associated to plant height, cycle, dry mass yield and seeds yield; and 19 qualitative traits, being these morphological descriptors. The results showed that lines UFSMFW 2-05 and UFSMFW 2-07 stand out with characteristics such as early cycle, higher dry mass and grain yield. Divergence analysis revealed the formation of three distinct groups, indicating the presence of variability. These results suggested the potential for the development of new cultivars of black oat, presenting early cycle and good grain yield.

RESUMO: O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o desempenho agronômico por meio de modelos mistos e determinar a divergência genética entre genótipos de aveia preta. O experimento foi conduzido na Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, campus de Frederico Westphalen/RS. Catorze genótipos de aveia preta foram avaliados, sendo 11 linhagens desenvolvidas pelo Programa de Melhoramento da Universidade e três cultivares comercias (IAPAR 61, UPFA 21 - Moreninha e IPR Cabocla). Foram avaliadas características agronômicas quantitativas relacionadas ao porte, ciclo e produtividade de massa seca e de sementes; e 19 características qualitativas, sendo estes descritores morfológicos. Os resultados mostraram que as linhagens UFSMFW 2-05 e UFSMFW 2-07 se destacam com características como ciclo precoce, elevada produtividade de massa seca e de sementes. A análise de divergência revelou a formação de três grupos distintos, indicando presença de variabilidade. Os resultados demonstram o potencial de desenvolvimento de novas cultivares de aveia preta, apresentando precocidade e boa produtividade de sementes.

Abstract The objective of this work was to select black oat genotypes using the MGIDI for simultaneous selection, comparing it with the Smith-Hazel index. The experiment was carried out in Frederico Westphalen/RS and Pato Branco/PR, in a randomized block design, with three replications, with 9 genotypes tested. Days from emergence to flowering and maturation; cutting and plant height; number of tillers; panicle length; tiller, plant, panicle, panicle seed mass, green and dry; and seed yield were obtained. MGIDI selected the genotypes UFSMFW 2-01 and UFSMFW 2-04 for Frederico Westphalen and UFSMFW 2-07 and UFSMFW 2-04 for Pato Branco, which varied compared to the Smith-Hazel index in both environments. MGIDI was efficient in selecting the best black oat genotypes, showing desirable selection gains for most traits.

ABSTRACT The agronomic traits have complex quantitative inheritance, wheat breeding has a highly cost and time expending to achieve advanced lines, and new cultivars. The objective of this work was to estimate the phenotypic (rp), genotypic (rg) and environmental (re) correlation coefficients and the genetic parameters, as well as to estimate the selection gains between agronomic traits in wheat using multivariate analysis. F6 generation was carried out in a randomized block experimental design, with fifteen wheat genotypes arranged in three replications. The traits measured were days of emergence to flowering, plant height, number of tillers, spike length, number of spikelets, kernel weight and thousand kernel weight. Correlation coefficients, variance components, genetic parameters, selection gain, Euclidiana’s distance, relative contribution of traits and canonical variables were estimated. Selection based on number of tillers, kernel weight and thousand kernel weight may result in expressive selection gains. The number of fertile tillers per plant showed a significant and positive intermediate association with kernel weight and positive correlation with number of spikelets. The cycle showed greater contribution to the genetic divergence among genotypes studied. Distinct groups highlighted the genetic variability among genotypes.

Resumo Introdução Técnicas de timpanoplastia com diferentes tipos de enxerto têm sido usadas para fechar perfurações timpânicas desde o século XIX. A cartilagem tragal e a fáscia temporal são os tipos de enxerto mais usados, com resultados funcionais e morfológicos semelhantes na maioria dos casos. Embora ainda com poucas evidências publicadas, a mucosa nasal tem se mostrado uma boa opção de enxerto. Objetivo Comparar os resultados cirúrgicos e audiológicos da timpanoplastia tipo I com enxerto de mucosa nasal e de fáscia temporal em seis meses de seguimento. Método Foram selecionados aleatoriamente 40 pacientes candidatos a timpanoplastia tipo I divididos nos grupos enxerto de mucosa nasal e de fáscia temporal com 20 em cada grupo. Os parâmetros avaliados incluíram sucesso cirúrgico, ou seja, a taxa de fechamento completo da perfuração timpânica, e resultados audiológicos; diferença entre o gap quadritonal médio do gap aéreo-ósseo pré e pós-operatório após seis meses da cirurgia. Resultados O fechamento completo da perfuração timpânica foi alcançado em 17 de 20 pacientes no grupo mucosa nasal, como também no grupo fáscia temporal. O ganho quadritonal médio do gap aéreo-ósseo foi de 11,9 dB no grupo mucosa nasal e 11,1 dB no grupo fáscia temporal, respectivamente. Não houve diferença estatisticamente significante entre os grupos. Conclusão O enxerto de mucosa nasal pode ser considerado semelhante ao da fáscia temporal quando se considera o sucesso cirúrgico de pega do enxerto e o ganho audiológico.

Abstract Introduction Tympanoplasty techniques with different types of graft have been used to close tympanic perforations since the 19th century. Tragal cartilage and temporalis fascia are the most frequently used types of graft. They lead to similar functional and morphological results in most cases. Although little published evidence is present, nasal mucosa has also been shown to be a good alternative graft. Objective Surgical and audiological outcomes at the six-month follow-up in type I tympanoplasty using nasal mucosa and temporalis fascia grafts were analyzed. Methods A total of 40 candidates for type I tympanoplasty were randomly selected and divided into the nasal mucosa and temporalis fascia graft groups with 20 in each group. The assessed parameters included surgical success; the rate of complete closure of tympanic perforation and hearing results; the difference between post- and pre-operative mean quadritonal airway-bone gap, six months after surgery. Results Complete closure of the tympanic perforation was achieved in 17 of 20 patients in both groups. The mean quadritonal airway-bone gap closures were11.9 and 11.1 dB for the nasal mucosa and temporalis fascia groups, respectively. There was no statistically significant difference between the groups. Conclusion The nasal mucosa graft can be considered similar to the temporal fascia when considering the surgical success rate of graft acceptance and ultimate audiological gain.

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Solid pseudopapillary neoplasm of the pancreas is an uncommon pancreatic tumor, which is more frequent in young adult women. Familial adenomatous polyposis is a genetic condition associated with colorectal cancer that also increases the risk of developing other tumors as well. AIM: The aim of this study was to discuss the association of familial adenomatous polyposis with solid pseudopapillary neoplasm of the pancreas, which is very rare. METHODS: We report two cases of patients with familial adenomatous polyposis who developed solid pseudopapillary neoplasm of the pancreas of the pancreas and were submitted to laparoscopic pancreatic resections with splenic preservation (one male and one female). RESULTS: ß-catenin and Wnt signaling pathways have been found to play an important role in the tumorigenesis of solid pseudopapillary neoplasm of the pancreas, and their constitutive activation due to adenomatous polyposis coli gene inactivation in familial adenomatous polyposis may explain the relationship between familial adenomatous polyposis and solid pseudopapillary neoplasm of the pancreas. CONCLUSION: Colonic resection must be prioritized, and a minimally invasive approach is preferred to minimize the risk of developing desmoid tumor. Pancreatic resection usually does not require extensive lymphadenectomy for solid pseudopapillary neoplasm of the pancreas, and splenic preservation is feasible.

RESUMO RACIONAL: A neoplasia sólida pseudopapilífera do pâncreas é um tumor pancreático incomum, mais frequente em mulheres jovens. A polipose adenomatosa familiar, por sua vez, é uma condição genética associada a câncer colorretal e que também aumenta o risco de desenvolvimento de outros tumores. OBJETIVOS: Discutir a associação entre polipose adenomatosa familiar e neoplasia sólida pseudopapilífera, que é bastante rara. MÉTODOS: Reportamos dois casos de pacientes com polipose adenomatosa familiar, um homem e uma mulher, que desenvolveram neoplasia sólida pseudopapilífera do pâncreas e foram submetidos a ressecção laparoscópica com preservação esplênica. RESULTADOS: As vias de sinalização da ß-catenina e Wnt tem um papel importante na tumorigênese da neoplasia sólida pseudopapilífera, e sua ativação constitutiva devido a inativação do gene adenomatous polyposis coli na polipose adenomatosa familiar pode explicar a relação entre polipose adenomatosa familiar e neoplasia sólida pseudopapilífera. CONCLUSÕES: A ressecção do cólon deve ser priorizada, com preferência pela abordagem minimamente invasiva para minimizar o risco de desenvolvimento de tumor desmoide. A ressecção pancreática geralmente não requer linfadenectomia extensa para neoplasia sólida pseudopapilífera, portanto, a preservação esplênica é factível.

Abstract UFSMFW 2202 is an early black oat cultivar with high dry matter and grain yield potential. When used in rotation systems, the early cycle has the immediate advantage of allowing anticipated sowing of subsequent crop. Initially, the cultivar is recommended for the North and Northwest of Rio Grande do Sul.

Abstract The black oat cultivar UFSMFW 2101, recommended for Northwest of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, is very early and can produce high dry matter and grain yields. In rotation systems, an immediate advantage is the very early cycle, with the possibility of anticipated sowing of the subsequent crop.

RESUMO Objetivo: Avaliar a percepção visual e estética do espaço negro entre os incisivos centrais superiores, via rastreamento do olhar e escala visual analógica (EVA). Métodos: Manipulou-se o espaço negro entre os incisivos centrais superiores, para ambos os sexos, da seguinte forma: imagem controle, espaço negro de 1 mm, espaço negro de 2 mm e espaço negro de 3 mm. Participaram desse estudo noventa avaliadores, divididos em três grupos: 30 leigos, 30 cirurgiões-dentistas e 30 ortodontistas. Após a calibração visual de cada observador, foram projetadas oito fotografias no software OGAMA® em conjunto com o hardware The Eye Tribe®. O OGAMA gerou informações do rastreamento do olhar de cada avaliador com relação ao tempo até a primeira fixação, mapa de calor, trajetória do olhar e tempo total de fixação para avaliar as áreas consideradas de interesse, de acordo com os avaliadores. Posteriormente, utilizou-se a EVA para avaliar as imagens a partir de um álbum, em uma escala de 0 a 10 pontos. Resultados: Os olhos e a boca foram as áreas com maior fixação pelos avaliadores, de acordo com os mapas de calor. Os resultados estatísticos não apresentaram diferença estatisticamente significativa entre os três grupos de avaliadores (p> 0,05), quanto ao tempo até a primeira fixação. Porém, em relação ao tempo de fixação na boca, observou-se diferença estatisticamente significativa (p< 0,05) na comparação dos três grupos. Conclusão: O espaço negro apresentou um efeito negativo na percepção estética da face. O aumento de fixação na boca correspondeu ao aumento do tamanho do espaço negro.

ABSTRACT Objective: To study the influence of black space between the maxillary central incisors on the aesthetic visual perception of the face, via eye-tracking and visual analogue scale (VAS). Methods: Black space between the central incisors was created, for both sexes, as follows: control, 1-mm black space, 2-mm black space and 3-mm black space. Ninety raters participated in this study, divided into three groups: 30 laypeople, 30 nonorthodontists, and 30 orthodontists. After the visual calibration of each observer, eight photographs were presented in the Ogama® software concomitant with the use of the hardware The Eye Tribe®. Ogama generated information depending on the eye-tracking of each rater, regarding the time until the first fixation, time of fixation, heatmap, scanpath, and total time of fixation, to evaluate the areas deemed to be of interest according to the raters. Later on, the VAS was used, where each rater evaluated the images in an album on a scale of zero to 10 points. Results: The eyes and mouth were the areas more often noticed by the raters according to the heatmaps, while no significant difference was observed in time until the first fixation between the three groups of raters (p> 0.05). However, regarding the time of fixation on the mouth, a significant difference was observed (p< 0.05) when comparing the three groups. Conclusion: Black space has a negative effect on the aesthetic perception of the face. The amount of attention on the mouth is correspondent to the size of the black space.

RESUMO A dermatite atópica canina (DAC) é uma doença inflamatória crônica da pele e tem alta frequência entre as doenças dermatológicas. A interação de fatores genéticos, pele e condições ambientais afetam a expressão da doença, desenvolvendo uma patologia complexa. O tratamento multimodal atual apresenta inúmeros efeitos adversos e variações em sua eficácia e segurança, demonstrando a necessidade de desenvolver recursos terapêuticos seguros e eficazes para pacientes com DAC. As células-tronco mesenquimais (CTM) são células multipotentes, com características especiais, como auto renovação, propriedades imunomoduladoras e desdiferenciação, tornando-se úteis para diversos problemas clínicos. A descoberta do efeito imunossupressor das CTMs sobre as células T abriu o potencial para novas perspectivas com sua utilização como agente terapêutico para doenças imunológicas, como a DAC. O escasso número de pesquisas utilizando o MSC como tratamento para DAC resulta no desconhecimento dos benefícios e dos possíveis protocolos a serem seguidos para a utilização dessa terapia celular. Nesta revisão, destacamos os estudos clínicos e os potenciais mecanismos biológicos dos efeitos da terapia celular baseada em MSC que atenuam a dermatite atópica canina em comparação com o tratamento convencional, podendo levar a uma melhora segura da condição clínica do animal em um curto período, sem causar efeitos adversos.

ABSTRACT Canine atopic dermatitis (CAD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease and has a high frequency among dermatological diseases. The interaction of genetic factors, skin and environmental conditions affect the expression of the disease, developing a complex pathology. Current multimodal treatment has numerous adverse effects and variations in its efficacy and safety, demonstrating the need to develop safe and effective therapeutic resources for patients with CAD. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are multipotent cells, with special characteristics, such as self-renewal, immunomodulatory properties, and de-differentiation, making them useful for several clinical problems. The discovery of the immunosuppressive effect of MSCs on T cells has opened the potential for new perspectives with its use as a therapeutic agent for immune diseases, such as CAD. The scarce number of research using the MSC as a treatment for CAD result in the lack of knowledge about the benefits and possible protocols to be followed for the use of this cell therapy. In this review, we highlighted the clinical studies and potential biological mechanisms of MSC-based cell therapy effects attenuating canine atopic dermatitis compared to conventional treatment, which might lead to a safe improvement of the animal’s clinical condition in a short period without causing adverse effects.

Este artigo destina-se a apresentar sob uma perspectiva didática os detalhes e procedimentos matemáticos necessários para a construção da equação diferencial quântica, sob regime relativístico, denominada Equação de Klein-Gordon-Fock (EK-G-F), admitindo o sistema de coordenadas da frente de luz. Para tanto, inicialmente, destacamos algumas propriedades algébricas da Teoria da Relatividade Especial de Einstein assim como apresentamos resumidamente as coordenadas da frente de luz em termos das coordenadas cartesianas e do parâmetro de evolução temporal, isto é, do espaço de Minkowski, obtendo dessa forma a EK-G-F tanto em coordenadas usuais do espaço de Minkowski, quanto em coordenadas da frente de Luz. Em seguida, para essas últimas coordenadas, desenvolvemos detalhadamente a estrutura algébrica da EK-G-F para uma partícula quântica eletricamente carregada em regime de relatividade especial e sob influência de configurações de campos magnéticos clássicos. Além disso, obtemos a EK-G-F com estrutura algébrica similar a uma equação diferencial quântica de Schrödinger. Por fim, como aplicação imediata do uso dessas coordenadas, desenvolvemos os trâmites e passos algébricos necessários para obtenção do operador de aniquilação do tipo integral de movimento, o qual configura-se como estrutura matemática necessária para construção dos estados quânticos coerentes.

This article is intended to present, from a didactic perspective, the details and mathematical procedures necessary for the construction of the quantum differential equation, under a relativistic regime, called the Klein-Gordon-Fock Equation (KGFE), admitting the front coordinate system of light. To do so, initially, we highlight some algebraic properties of Einstein’s Special Theory of Relativity as well as briefly present the coordinates of the light front in terms of cartesian coordinates and the temporal evolution parameter, that is, of Minkowski space, thus obtaining the KGFE both in usual coordinates of Minkowski space and in coordinates of the light front. Then, for these last coordinates, we develop in detail the algebraic structure of KGFE for an electrically charged quantum particle in a special relativity regime and under influence of classical magnetic field configurations. Furthermore, we obtain the KGFE with an algebraic structure similar to a Schrödinger quantum differential equation. Finally, as an immediate application of the use of these coordinates, we developed the necessary algebraic procedures and steps to obtain the annihilation operator of the integral type of motion, which is configured as the necessary mathematical structure for the construction of coherent quantum states.

OBJECTIVES: Since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), all health services worldwide underwent profound changes, leading to the suspension of many elective surgeries. This study aimed to evaluate the safety of elective colorectal surgery during the pandemic. METHODS: This was a retrospective, cross-sectional, single-center study. Patients who underwent elective colorectal surgery during the COVID-19 pandemic between March 10 and September 9, 2020, were included. Patient data on sex, age, diagnosis, types of procedures, hospital stay, mortality, and severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) preoperative screening tests were recorded. RESULTS: A total of 103 colorectal surgical procedures were planned, and 99 were performed. Four surgeries were postponed due to positive preoperative screening for SARS-CoV-2. Surgical procedures were performed for colorectal cancer (n=90) and inflammatory bowel disease (n=9). Laparoscopy was the approach of choice for 43 patients (43.4%), 53 (53.5%) procedures were open, and 3 (3%) procedures were robotic. Five patients developed COVID-19 in the postoperative period, and three of them died in the intensive care unit (n=3/5, 60% mortality). Two other patients died due to surgical complications unrelated to COVID-19 (n=2/94, 2.1% mortality) (p<0.01). Hospital stay was longer in patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection than in those without (38.4 versushttps://doi.org/10.3 days, respectively, p<0.01). Of the 99 patients who received surgical care during the pandemic, 94 were safely discharged (95%). CONCLUSION: Our study demonstrated that elective colorectal surgical procedures may be safely performed during the pandemic; however, preoperative testing should be performed to reduce in-hospital infection rates, since the mortality rate due to SARS-CoV-2 in this setting is particularly high.

RESUMO Modelos mistos e análises multivariadas são ferramentas poderosas para selecionar genótipos superiores em programas de melhoramento de plantas. O método BLUP (best linear unbiased prediction) tem sido usado para predizer valores genéticos, eliminando efeitos ambientais. Além disso, o método FAI-BLUP (ideotype-design index) é importante para o melhoramento genético de plantas, devido à seleção de múltiplas características. Objetivou-se determinar o potencial genético de gerações avançadas de trigo, utilizando-se REML/BLUP em combinação com técnicas multivariadas, para a seleção de genótipos superiores. O experimento foi constituído de onze genótipos de trigo (Triticum aestivum L.). O delineamento experimental foi o de blocos casualizados, com três repetições. Foram avaliadas as variáveis altura da planta, altura de inserção da espiga, número de afilhos, número de espiguetas, largura do grão, peso hectolitro e peso de grãos por planta. Os parâmetros genéticos foram estimados utilizando-se a metodologia REML/BLUP, e o índice FAI-BLUP foi calculado por meio dos valores genéticos preditos. Os genótipos UFSMFW 1-02, UFSMFW 1-05 e UFSMFW 1-04 apresentam potencial de incremento para produtividade de grãos. Os ganhos de seleção para número de afilhos (14,63 %) e massa de grãos por planta (22,35 %) são potencias para a seleção de genótipos superiores.

ABSTRACT Mixed models and multivariate analysis are powerful tools for selecting superior genotypes in plant breeding programs. The BLUP (best linear unbiased prediction) method has been used to predict genetic values without environmental effects. Furthermore, the FAI-BLUP (ideotype-design index) procedure is especially valuable for plant breeding because of multiple-trait selection. This study aimed to determine the genetic potential of advanced wheat generations using REML/BLUP in combination with multivariate techniques for the selection of superior genotypes. The experiment consisted of eleven wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) genotypes. The experimental design was randomized blocks, with three replications. Plant height, spike insertion height, number of tillers, number of spikelets, kernel width, hectoliter weight and kernel weight per plant were determined. The genetic parameters were estimated using the REML/BLUP methodology, and the FAI-BLUP index was calculated using predicted genetic values. The genotypes UFSMFW 1-02, UFSMFW 1-05 and UFSMFW 1-04 show potential to increase the grain yield. The selection gains for number of tillers (14.63 %) and kernel weight per plant (22.35 %) indicate the potential to select superior genotypes.

RESUMO JUSTIFICATIVA E OBJETIVOS: A literatura tem demonstrado que as modalidades comportamentais e educacionais são opções efetivas no tratamento da dor crônica, inclusive da disfunção temporomandibular, e técnicas como o biofeedback vêm sendo utilizadas como terapia isolada ou em combinação para um controle efetivo da dor nesses indivíduos. Além disso, a gravidade dos sintomas tem correlação com fatores de relevância para o prognóstico, como a qualidade de vida, estados emocionais e qualidade do sono. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o efeito da técnica do biofeedback audiovisual no controle da dor e na qualidade do sono em paciente com disfunção temporomandibular muscular. RELATO DO CASO: Paciente do sexo feminino, 34 anos, com disfunção temporomandibular. O critério diagnóstico DC/TMD (Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders) Eixo I foi aplicado, sendo a paciente classificada com mais de um subtipo de disfunção temporomandibular: mialgia local e dor miofascial com referência, além de cervicalgia como comorbidade. CONCLUSÃO: No caso clínico apresentado a terapia com biofeedback foi efetiva na redução da intensidade da dor e melhoria da qualidade do sono.

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Literature has shown that behavioral and educational modalities are effective options in the treatment of chronic pain, including temporomandibular disorder, and techniques such as biofeedback have been used for single therapy or in combination for effective pain control in these individuals. Furthermore, the severity of symptoms is related to relevant prognostic factors, such as quality of life, emotional states and sleep quality. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of the biofeedback audiovisual technique on pain control and sleep quality in a patient with temporomandibular disorder. CASE REPORT: Female patient, 34 years old, with Temporomandibular Disorder. The DC/TMD (Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders) Axis I, diagnostic was applied, and the patient was classified with more than one subtype of temporomandibular disorders: local myalgia and myofascial pain with reference, in addition to neck pain as a comorbidity. CONCLUSION: In this case, the biofeedback treatment was effective both in reducing pain intensity and improving sleep quality.
