Abstract This paper presents an eyebolt structural fault detection system, based on the analysis of multiple electromagnetic parameters through a random forest classifier trained by both measurements and high-fidelity simulated signals. The proposed methodology is completely noninvasive and does not require the disassembly of the electrical infrastructure, allowing the live-line working. Abstract The structural condition of the cable-stayed towers anchorage on power transmission lines requires constant monitoring. Maintenance routines must be able to identify faulty anchor rods and substitute them to avoid tower collapses and power delivery interruptions. Modern statistical diagnostic systems based on machine learning requires the generation of several distinct rod sample signals to be trained, which is a time-consuming process in typical electromagnetic solvers. Aiming to generate samples in a feasible time span, this paper presents a modeling strategy based on the cascade analysis of the transmission line composed by the anchor and the reference rods, interconnected by a dedicated high-frequency connector. Each distinct transmission line part is modeled by a quadrupole as a partial ABCD matrix. The complete response for each experimental setup is obtained from the cascaded-multiplying of the partial matrices. The proposed modeling proved to be accurate and provides a faster way to obtain the S-parameters from distinct faulty rods if compared to the traditional methodologies using electromagnetic tools.

Abstract This paper presents measurements at a mock-up medium voltage network to verify the feasibility of Broadband Power Line Communication (BPLC). We use the data extracted within the frequency range 2 − 30 MHz to characterize a MIMO PLC network using different phase combinations, defining the best and worst use case scenarios. The empirical data shows that not only phases directly connected for input-output can be used, but also that we can exploit the coupling between phases to transmit and receive data, therefore creating a dynamic PLC network which will depend on the characteristics of the power grid. By making use of transmission line theory, we also demonstrate how we can mitigate the reflections by measuring the input impedance of the network to allow better use of the bandwidth available for BPLC operation.

Abstract The objective of this study was to evaluate drug interactions based on medical records of patients hospitalized in University Hospital Lauro Wanderley (UHLW) in João Pessoa-PB, Brazil. This was a quantitative, descriptive study with a cross-sectional design. This research was conducted in the medical clinic of the above hospital by analyzing pharmaceutical intervention in medical records. The investigated samples consisted of all medical profiles with drug interaction information of patients hospitalized from June 2016 to June 2017. Most of these drug interactions were determined and classified by Micromedex® Solutions database. This research was approved by the Ethics Committee in Institutional Human Research, protocol number 2.460.206. In total, 331 drug interactions were found in 131 medical profiles. Dipyrone, enoxaparin, sertraline, ondansetron, quetiapine, tramadol, bromopride, amitriptyline, and simvastatin were medications that showed highest interactions. According to Anatomical Therapy Classification (ATC), drugs that act on the central nervous system result in more interactions. The most prevalent interaction was between dipyrone and enoxaparin. Some limitations of this study are the lack of notifications and data on drug interactions.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the occurrence of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in hemodialysis facilities and the occurrence of and risk factors for clustering of COVID-19 cases. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional online survey between March and July 2020, in all dialysis facilities in São Paulo state, using Google Forms. The online questionnaire contained questions addressing specific components of infection prevention and control practices and the number of cases during the COVID-19 pandemic. RESULTS: A total of 1,093 (5%) COVID-19 cases were reported among 20,984 patients; approximately 56% of the facilities had ≥1 cluster. Most facilities implemented various measures (such as allocation of dedicated COVID-19 areas/shifts, symptom screening, environmental disinfection, and maintenance of adequate ventilation) to prevent the transmission of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. Clustering of COVID-19 cases was suspected in only 7% of dialysis facilities. The only variable associated with this event was the performance of aerosol-generating procedures (odds ratio: 4.74; 95% confidence interval: 1.75-12.86). CONCLUSION: Attention should be paid to avoiding the performance of aerosol-generating procedures in dialysis facilities and monitoring the clustering of cases.

RESUMO Jabuticaba e jussara são frutos da Mata Atlântica brasileira e são espécies de frutos em risco de extinção devido à sua exploração insustentável. Para proteger essas plantas, é preciso desenvolver novos produtos que as utilizem como matérias-primas. No presente trabalho, desenvolvemos um néctar pronto para consumo de jabuticaba com a adição de polpa de jussara liofilizada (LJP) realizando testes sensoriais como teste de aceitação e Check-All-That-Apply (CATA). As condições sensoriais ótimas variaram entre 150 g L-1 e 200 g L-1 para concentração de sacarose e entre 450 mL L-1 e 550 mL L-1 para concentração de polpa de jabuticaba. A concentração ideal de LJP como corante natural foi obtida no teste de escala do ideal e foi igual a 7,2 g L-1 (R2=0,99902). O teste afetivo mostrou que os néctares com adição de LJP tiveram maiores médias de aceitação do que as amostras sem o corante (P<0,05). A adição de LJP aumentou em 5 vezes o teor de fenólicos totais. Amostras com LJP tiveram perfis sensoriais descritivos semelhantes, assim como amostras sem a adição do corante, de acordo com os resultados do CATA (P>0,05). O néctar de jabuticaba com adição de LJP foi bem aceito pelos consumidores (P<0,05), indicando potencial comercial para esse produto.

ABSTRACT Jabuticaba and jussara are both fruits from the Brazilian Atlantic Forest and endangered plant species due to their unsustainable exploitation. In order to protect these plants, it is important to develop products made with these fruits. We have developed a ready-to-drink jabuticaba nectar with the addition of lyophilized jussara pulp (LJP) applying sensory tests, such as acceptance test and Check-All-That-Apply (CATA). Optimal sensory conditions ranged between 150 g L-1 and 200 g L-1 for sucrose concentration and between 450 mL L-1 and 550 mL L-1 for jabuticaba pulp concentration. Just-about-right scale showed that the ideal concentration of LJP used as a natural color additive was 7.2 g L-1 (R2=0.99902). Affective test showed that nectars added with LJP had higher acceptance means than samples without the colorant (P<0.05). LJP addition led to 5.0-fold increase in total phenolic contents. Samples colored with LJP had similar sensory descriptive profiles, as well as nectars without jussara colorant, according to CATA results (P>0.05). Jabuticaba nectar added with LJP presented high acceptance among consumers (P<0.05), indicating commercial potential for this product.

ABSTRACT In the present paper we summarize the suggestions of a multidisciplinary group including experts in pediatric oncology and infectious diseases who reviewed the medical literature to elaborate a consensus document (CD) for the diagnosis and clinical management of invasive fungal diseases (IFDs) in children with hematologic cancer and those who underwent hematopoietic stem-cell transplantation. All major multicenter studies designed to characterize the epidemiology of IFDs in children with cancer, as well as all randomized clinical trials addressing empirical and targeted antifungal therapy were reviewed. In the absence of randomized clinical trials, the best evidence available to support the recommendations were selected. Algorithms for early diagnosis and best clinical management of IFDs are also presented. This document summarizes practical recommendations that will certainly help pediatricians to best treat their patients suffering of invasive fungal diseases.

RESUMO Objetivo Estimar a prevalência de sintomas depressivos em pacientes de ambulatórios de clínica médica no Hospital Universitário Lauro Wanderley, em 2018. Métodos Aplicação de um questionário sociodemográfico e da escala de depressão de Hamilton em um período de dois meses; 101 pacientes foram devidamente entrevistados. Resultados Observou-se que 61,4% da amostra classifica-se entre ligeiramente e gravemente deprimida, sendo 78% dos pacientes da reumatologia, 63% da cardiologia e 48% da endocrinologia. Dos pacientes abordados, 34,6% praticam atividade física pelo menos três vezes por semana, 53,5% fazem ou já fizeram uso de medicação para dormir, 25,7% já fizeram tratamento psiquiátrico e 4,9% o fazem atualmente, em contrapartida 29,7% fazem uso de algum psicotrópico. Dos psicotrópicos, o mais utilizado foi o diazepam (16,7%). Verificaram-se as seguintes associações: pacientes ligeiramente a gravemente deprimidos não praticavam atividades físicas, já faziam tratamento de saúde e tinham histórico de tratamento psiquiátrico; a reumatologia apresentou mais pacientes com algum grau de depressão. Dos 27 que disseram ter sono ruim, 78% usavam medicamento para dormir e 63%, psicotrópicos; 60% não praticavam atividade física e 81% eram ligeiramente a gravemente deprimidos. Sintomas somáticos foram os mais relatados na escala de Hamilton. Conclusão Existe alta prevalência de sintomas depressivos em pacientes dos ambulatórios de clínica médica, com destaque para as doenças cardiovasculares, endocrinológicas e reumatológicas. Percebe-se que houve grande destaque para os sintomas somáticos, o que pode explicar a grande quantidade de entrevistados que não são acompanhados por psiquiatra e tratados apenas com sintomáticos.

ABSTRACT Objective Estimate the prevalence of depressive symptoms in ambulatory of medical clinics at Lauro Wanderley University Hospital in 2018. Methods Application of a sociodemographic questionnaire and the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale in a 2-month period, where 101 patients were interviewed. Results It was observed that 61.4% of the sample is classified as mildly and severely depressed, with 78% of rheumatology patients, 63% of cardiology and 48% of endocrinology. Of the patients treated 34.6% practice physical activity at least three times a week, 53.5% use or had used sleeping medication, 25.7% have psychiatric treatment and 4.9% currently do, in contrast 29.7% use some psychotropic. Of the psychotropics, the most used was Diazepam (16.7%). The following associations were found: slightly depressed patients did not practice physical activities, were already receiving health treatment and had a history of psychiatric treatment; rheumatology showed more patients with some degree of depression. Of the 27 who reported poor sleep, 78% used sleeping medication and 63% psychotropic, 60% did not practice physical activity and 81% were slightly depressed. Somatic symptoms were the most reported on the Hamilton scale. Conclusion There is a high prevalence of depressive symptoms in patients of medical ambulatory services, especially cardiovascular, endocrinological and rheumatologic diseases. It is noticed that there was a great emphasis on somatic symptoms, which may explain the large number of respondents who are not accompanied by psychiatrist and treated only with symptomatic.

Resumo O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar as condições higiênico-sanitárias e o perfil da comunidade microbiana dos utensílios e das mesas de um serviço de alimentação localizado no município do Rio de Janeiro. A caracterização do processo de higienização dos utensílios (pratos, bandejas e talheres) e das mesas foi realizada por observação sistemática. Verificou-se que os utensílios eram lavados em máquina de lavar e as mesas, manualmente. Após a higienização, os utensílios apresentavam umidade e resíduos de alimentos. Pelo método dependente de cultivo, foram analisadas 126 amostras higienizadas (utensílios: n=90 e mesas: n=36). Pesquisaram-se bactérias mesófilas, coliformes, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus e fungos. Das amostras analisadas, 100% dos utensílios e 80% das mesas apresentaram contagens microbianas superiores ao recomendado na literatura, estando em condições higiênico-sanitárias inadequadas. E. coli foi isolada nos utensílios e S. aureus, nas mesas. Pelos métodos independentes de cultivo (PCR-DGGE e sequenciamento da subunidade 16S do rRNA), foram analisadas 36 amostras (utensílios: n=27 e mesas: n=9). Klebsiella sp. e Acinetobacter sp. Foram detectadas em todas as amostras, Citrobacter sp. sobre as mesas e Aeromonas hydrophila, nos talheres. Houve falha no processo de higienização, que foi confirmada pelas análises realizadas, que evidenciaram a presença de microrganismos indicadores e patogênicos, que podem causar a perda da qualidade das refeições, assim como danos à saúde dos comensais. Desta forma, é necessário adequar o processo de higienização, a fim de minimizar o risco de contaminação e o surto de doenças transmitidas por alimentos (DTA).

Abstract The objective of the study was to evaluate the hygienic-sanitary conditions and the microbial community profile of tables and tableware of a food service located in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The characterization of the sanitation process of the tableware (plates, trays and cutlery) and the tables was carried out by systematic observation. The tableware were washed in washing machine and the tables, cleaned by hand. After this process, the tableware presented moisture and food residues. For the culture-dependent method, 126 sanitized samples (tableware: n = 90 and tables: n = 36) were analyzed. Mesophilic bacteria, coliforms, fungi, Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus were investigated. 100% of the sampled tableware and 80% of the sampled tables presented microbial counts higher than recommended in literature. The surfaces were in inadequate hygienic-sanitary conditions. E. coli was isolated in the tableware and S. aureus in the tables. By independent culture methods (PCR-DGGE and 16S rRNA sequencing), 36 samples (tableware: n = 27 and tables: n = 9) were analyzed. Klebsiella sp. and Acinetobacter sp. were detected in all samples, Citrobacter sp. was found on the tables and Aeromonas hydrophila in the cutlery. Results showed that the analyzed surfaces had indicative and pathogenic microorganisms, which can cause loss of quality in meals, as well as damages to the consumers’ health. Therefore, it is necessary to adapt the tableware and tables hygiene process in order to minimize the risk of contamination and food disease outbreaks.

Resumo Duas dietas foram avaliadas, uma controle (T1), com adição de 40 mL de solução hidroalcoólica a cada kg de ração e outra (T2), com adição de 40 mL do produto Homeopático a cada kg de ração em tilápias do Nilo. Foram distribuídos 200 peixes em 10 aquários, totalizando 20 animais em cada aquário, onde permaneceram por 63 dias. Foi realizado o monitoramento dos parâmetros físicos e químicos da água, desempenho dos animais, determinação da composição centesimal e a composição de ácidos graxos em cabeças de tilápia do Nilo. Não houve diferença estatística significativa entre os tratamentos em relação aos parâmetros da água, desempenho, determinação de umidade, cinzas, proteína bruta, lipídios totais. As tilápias do Nilo que receberam o produto homeopático incorporado na ração apresentaram a razão AGPI/AGS superior ao do tratamento controle, apresentado diferença significativa. As cabeças das tilápias analisadas constituem uma excelente fonte de lipídios totais.

Abstract Two diets were evaluated, one control (T1), with the addition of 40 ml of hydroalcoholic solution to each kg of feed and other (T2) with 40 ml of the homeopathic product every kg of feed in Nile tilapia. 200 fish were distributed in 10 water tanks, totaling 20 animals in each of the boxes, where they remained for 63 days. During the experiment was carried out monitoring of the physical and chemical parameters of water, animal performance, determine the chemical composition and fatty acid composition in heads of Nile tilapia. there was no significant statistical difference between treatments in relation to physical and chemical water parameters, performance, moisture determination, ash, crude protein, total lipids. The Nile tilapia that received the homeopathic product incorporated in the feed showed the PUFA / SFA ratio higher than the control treatment presented significant difference. The heads of analyzed tilapia are an excellent source of total lipids.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Schistosomiasis is an infectious parasitic disease caused by trematodes of the genus Schistosoma, which threatens at least 258 million people worldwide and its control is dependent on a single drug, praziquantel. The aim of this study was to evaluate the anti-Schistosoma mansoni activity in vitro of novel imidazolidine derivatives. Material and methods: We synthesized two novel imidazolidine derivatives: (LPSF/PTS10) (Z)-1-(2-chloro-6-fluorobenzyl)-4-(4-dimethylaminobenzylidene)-5-thioxoimidazolidin-2-one and (LPSF/PTS23) (Z)-1-(2-chloro-6-fluoro-benzyl)-5-thioxo-4-(2,4,6-trimethoxy-benzylidene)-imidazolidin-2-one. The structures of two compounds were determined by spectroscopic methods. During the biological assays, parameters such as motility, oviposition, mortality and analysis by Scanning Electron Microscopy were performed. Results: LPSF/PTS10 and LPSF/PTS23 were considered to be active in the separation of coupled pairs, mortality and to decrease the motor activity. In addition, LPSF/PTS23 induced ultrastructural alterations in worms, after 24 h of contact, causing extensive erosion over the entire body of the worms. Conclusion: The imidazolidine derivatives containing the trimetoxy and benzylidene halogens showed promising in vitro schistosomicidal activity.

RESUMO Neste estudo foram analisadas as propriedades físico-químicas e fotofísicas do óleo essencial de Curcuma longa, bem como seu potencial angiogênico. Os resultados obtidos mostraram que a curcumina é o principal componente fluorescente, mas está presente em pequena quantidade no óleo essencial. O método experimental da membrana corioalantóide foi empregado para avaliar a atividade angiogênica do óleo e foi observado um aumento significativo na rede vascular nos grupos submetidos ao óleo de Curcuma longa e controle positivo, quando comparado com os grupos controle negativo e inibidor (P <0,05), mas não houve diferenças significativas entre o grupo tratado com óleo de Curcuma longa e o controle positivo (P >0,05). A análise histológica mostrou maior neovascularização, hiperemia e elementos inflamatórios nos grupos controle positivo e Curcuma longa quando comparado aos demais grupos controles (P <0,05), fatores característicos do processo de angiogênese. Em conclusão, o óleo de Curcuma longa mostrou uma considerável atividade pró-angiogênica e pode ser um composto com potencial aplicações médicas.

ABSTRACT This study analyzed the physicochemical and photophysical properties of essential oil of Curcuma longa and its angiogenic potential. The results showed that curcumin is the main fluorescent component present in the oil, although the amount is relatively small. The experimental chorioallantoic membrane model was used to evaluate angiogenic activity, showing a significant increase in the vascular network of Curcuma longa and positive control groups when compared to the neutral and inhibitor controls (P <0.05), but no significant difference was found between Curcuma longa essential oil and the positive control (P >0.05). Histological analysis showed extensive neovascularization, hyperemia and inflammation in the positive control group and Curcuma longa when compared to other controls (P <0.05), characteristic factors of the angiogenesis process. In conclusion, Curcuma longa oil showed considerable proangiogenic activity and could be a potential compound in medical applications.

Abstract INTRODUCTION : The human T-lymphotropic virus-1 (HTLV-1) is associated with chronic inflammatory diseases such as HTLV-1-associated myelopathy/tropical spastic paraparesis (HAM/TSP), a chronic inflammatory disease. Disturbances in lipid metabolism are involved in inflammatory and demyelinating diseases. METHODS : Plasma levels of triglycerides, total cholesterol, and fractions of HTLV-1-infected individuals of both sexes with different clinical progressions were determined. RESULTS : Elevated levels of triglyceride and very low-density lipoproteins (VLDL) were exclusively detected in HTLV-1-infected women from asymptomatic and HAM/TSP groups compared with uninfected individuals (p = 0.02). CONCLUSIONS : Elevated triglyceride and VLDL levels in HTLV-1-infected women may be related to the predominance of HAM/TSP in women.

ABSTRACTCissampelos sympodialis Eichler, Menispermaceae, is widely used by Indian tribes and folk medicine to treat various inflammatory disorders, including asthma. Clinical toxicological trials were made with the tea of C. sympodialis, a medicinal plant. The study took place at Lauro Wanderley Hospital/UFPB-PB, where seventeen healthy volunteers were chosen, among those six men and eleven women who orally ingested, during four weeks uninterruptedly, 150 ml of the tea, once a day. Before the first ingestion and after the last one, the participants were subjected to clinical and laboratorial tests for their overall conditions in order to analyze the toxicity of the plant. The results demonstrated that the volunteers neither experience clinical nor laboratorial alterations, as well as no significant adverse effects, apart from little change detected in their hematological tests. Nevertheless, none demonstrated any pathological conditions, just alterations of the normal human being physiology. Therefore, it is concluded that these data complement that obtained during pre-clinical studies and confirm a low toxicity of this plant.

Introduction: aggressive fibromatosis is an uncommon, benign and recurrent disease. Objective: to characterize fibromatosis in patients attended al Provincial Pediatric Hospital of Holguín. Method: a retrospective cross-sectional study on aggressive fibromatosis in children younger than 19 years old was done during 2002 to 2012. Results: fibromatosis prevalence was 2.1 per 100 000 inhabitants. Females prevailed over males. The tumor was mainly localized in the gluteal region followed by the neck and the abdominal wall. The etiology was unknown in 75 % of cases. Fine needle aspiration biopsy was not useful for diagnosis. The initial treatment was 100 % surgical but incomplete; nevertheless, spontaneous regression of recurrence was seen in 50 % of cases. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy were applied to recurrence without successful results. Conclusions: the procedure, as the first line of treatment, should be considered because of tumor spontaneous regression. Surgical resection degree of the tumor does not prevent recurrence.

Introducción: la fibromatosis agresiva es rara, benigna, con alto grado de agresividad y recidivante. Objetivo: caracterizar la fibromatosis en pacientes atendidos en el Hospital Pediátrico Provincial de Holguín. Método: se realizó un estudio, transversal y retrospectivo de los pacientes, en edad pediátrica, con diagnósticos de fibromatosis profunda que incluyó los años 2002-2012. Resultados: la prevalencia de la fibromatosis fue de 2,1 por cada 100 000 habitantes. Predominó el sexo femenino. La localización glútea fue más frecuente seguida del cuello y la pared abdominal. La etiología fue desconocida en el 75 %. La biopsia por aspiración con aguja fina no fue útil para el diagnóstico. El tratamiento inicial fue quirúrgico e incompleto. La regresión espontánea ocurrió en el 50 % de la recidiva. La quimioterapia y la radioterapia se emplearon sin resultados satisfactorios. Conclusiones: debe considerarse el tratamiento inicial expectante, pues la regresión espontánea se ve en muchos casos y la cirugía no previene la recidiva independientemente del grado de resección tumoral.
