Resumo Lajes com fôrmas metálicas utilizadas durante a concretagem são um sistema estrutural misto composto de aço e concreto. O modo de falha por cisalhamento horizontal é o mais comum em lajes mistas com bases em numerosos estudos experimentais. Esta falha consiste na perda de aderência e contato mecânico do sistema misto e, frequentemente, ocorre antes do sistema atingir sua capacidade máxima à flexão plástica. Assim, o projeto deste sistema construtivo é determinado pela sua resistência ao cisalhamento longitudinal, que pode ser determinada pelo método semiempírico convencional m-k com base no ensaio de flexão de quatro pontos proposto por diversas normas. Um dos fatores conhecidos de maior influência na resistência ao cisalhamento longitudinal é a geometria das mossas presentes na fôrma metálica. Simulações computacionais por meio do método dos elementos finitos calibradas com base em resultados experimentais podem ser uma alternativa à realização deste tipo de ensaio. O presente trabalho modificou e adaptou uma metodologia que inclui explicitamente a geometria das mossas na análise de modo a usar materiais e produtos com características disponíveis para os engenheiros estruturais do Brasil e usou esta metodologia para derivar coeficientes m-k. Isto foi feito com o objetivo de simular numericamente o efeito de parâmetros relevantes para determinar a resistência ao cisalhamento longitudinal na interface aço-concreto de lajes mistas. Gráficos de força versus deslocamentos foram obtidos e os valores dos coeficientes m-k foram comparados com aqueles de outros autores na literatura. Abstract Slabs with cast-in-place steel formwork are composite structural elements composed of concrete and steel. The horizontal shear failure mode is the most common in composite slabs based on numerous experimental studies. This failure mode consists of loss of adherence and mechanical contact at the interface of the composite system and often occurs before the system reaches its full bending capacity. Thus, the design of this constructive system is determined by the value of the longitudinal shear strength, which can be computed by the semi-empirical so-called traditional m-k method based on the four-point bending test proposed by several standards. One of the most known factors to influence the longitudinal shear strength is the geometry of embossments present in the steel work. Calibrated computational simulation using the finite element method can be an alternative way to simulate this type of test. The present work modified and adapted a methodology explicitly including the geometry of embossments in the analysis in order to use materials and products with characteristics available to structural engineers in Brazil and used this methodology to derive m-k coefficients. This is being made with the objective of numerically simulating the effect of relevant parameters for determining the longitudinal shear strength at the concrete-steel interface of composite slabs. Force versus slip, force versus displacement graphs were obtained and the m-k coefficient values found were compared with those of other authors in the literature. RESUMO Introdução As doenças do foro cardiovascular são a principal causa de morte em Portugal e os Scores de Risco Cardiovascular são muito úteis na prevenção primária destas patologias. A prevenção do desenvolvimento e/ou progressão de patologias com elevada morbilidade e mortalidade para os trabalhadores pode estar incluída nas atividades desenvolvidas pela Saúde Ocupacional, no sentido de preservar a saúde e bem-estar dos trabalhadores. Objetivos O objetivo deste estudo é avaliar o Risco Cardiovascular dos trabalhadores de um Centro Hospitalar no intervalo de tempo entre 2011 e 2021. Metodologia O Risco Cardiovascular foi avaliado através do SCORE-2. Foram selecionados os trabalhadores que mantiveram funções laborais no Centro Hospitalar durante todo o período em análise. Os critérios de exclusão do SCORE-2 incluem patologia cardiovascular prévia, Diabetes mellitus, idade inferior a 40 anos ou superior a 69 anos. O SCORE-2 usa informações de pressão arterial, perfil lipídico, sexo, idade e hábitos alcoólicos. Resultados Selecionaram-se 345 trabalhadores. O valor mediano do risco cardiovascular dos trabalhadores em 2021 (Mediana=2,215%; IQR - InterQuartile Range/Amplitude Interquartil=3,0%) foi significativamente superior ao de 2011 (M=1,273%; IQR=1,8%). O risco cardiovascular em 2021 dos trabalhadores do Departamento de Gestão (M=3.173%; IQR=4.6%) foi superior ao dos trabalhadores do Departamento Médico (M=1.958%; IQR=1.9%). Não se encontraram diferenças significativas do risco cardiovascular dos trabalhadores segundo o seu grupo profissional, em 2011 [X2(7)=7,580; p>0,05] e em 2021 [X2(7)=7,427; p>0,05]. Com estes planos orientados para a diminuição do Risco Cardiovascular global da população de trabalhadores e das suas consequências na sua saúde, prevê-se uma redução do absentismo por doença, uma melhoria da qualidade de vida dos trabalhadores, um incremento na sua produtividade e consequente melhoria dos serviços prestados pela entidade empregadora.

ABSTRACT Introduction The cardiovascular diseases are the main death cause in Portugal and Cardiovascular Risk Scores are very useful to the primary prevention of these diseases. Prevention of the development and progression of diseases with high morbidity and mortality to the workers can be work out by Occupational Health, in the sense of preserving workers’ health and wellbeing. Objectives The aim of this study is to evaluate the Cardiovascular Risk of the workers of a Hospital Centre in the interval between 2011 till 2021. Methods The Cardiovascular Risk was evaluated by using SCORE-2. Workers were selected only if they worked through the entirety of this interval in this Hospital Centre. The SCORE-2’s exclusion criteria include previous cardiovascular disease, Diabetes mellitus, age lower than 40 years or higher than 69 years. SCORE-2 uses data from blood pressure, lipid panel, sex, age and tobacco use. Results There were selected 345 workers. The median cardiovascular risk of the workers in 2021 (Median=2,215%; InterQuartile Range=3,0%) was significatively higher than the cardiovascular risk of 2011 (M=1,273%; IQR=1,8%). The cardiovascular risk in 2021 of the workers from Administrative Department (M=3.173%; IQR=4.6%) was significatively higher than workers from Medical Department (M=1.958%; IQR=1.9%). There were no significant differences found of the workers’ cardiovascular risk among the professional group in 2011 [X2(7)=7,580; p>0,05] and in 2021 [X2(7)=7,427; p>0,05]. There were no significant differences found of the workers’ cardiovascular risk among the educational background in 2011 [X2(5)=3,412; p>0,05] and in 2021 [X2(5)=2,895; p>0,05]. Conclusions Knowledge about the working population characteristics allows the development of personalized planning regarding healthy lifestyles, to reduce the Cardiovascular Risk of these workers. With these plans designed to reduce the global Cardiovascular Risk of the working population and its consequences on their health, is predicted a reduction in sickness absenteeism, an improvement in the workers’ quality of life, better performance and consequently better services provided by the employer.

ABSTRACT The ecological structure of forest fragments is closely related to the dynamics of biological flows directly dependent on the decomposition of the litterfall, which is the main mechanism of recycling nutrients to plants. In this sense, the objective of the present work was to quantify the annual litterfall productionduring the period from April 2013 to March 2014 in Mata do Bebo, an Atlantic Forest fragment located in Macaíba, Rio Grande do Norte. 10 conical collectors were used to obtain the data on the litter contribution, with an average opening area of 0.128 m2, placed 1 m above the ground. The material was collected monthly, dried at air temperature for 48 h, and separated into four fractions: leaves, bark and branches, reproductive material; and miscellaneous material. After separation, the fractions were weighed and stored. The total contribution of litter was uninterrupted and totaled 5,038.72 kg ha-1 yea-1, with the highest production in September, at the beginning of the dry season, and the lowest in July. The foliar fraction made the largest contribution, with 3,744.26 kg ha-1 yean1, followed by the reproductive material, which reached 846.29 kg ha-1 year-1, branches and bark, with 396.10 kg ha-1 year-1, and miscellaneous material, with 52,069 kg ha-1 year-1. The correlations of litterfall production with rainfall and temperature were negative. The litterfall production in the fragment was lower than that obtained in other remaining Atlantic Forest areas, possibly because it is located in a region considered an ecotone between the Caatinga and Atlantic Forest biomes, besides the anthropic effect to which it has been submitted for decades.

RESUMEN La estructura ecológica de un fragmento de bosque está estrechamente relacionada con la dinámica de los flujos biológicos, ya que depende directamente de la descomposición de la hojarasca, que representa el principal mecanismo de disponibilidad y retorno de nutrientes a las plantas. El objetivo de este trabajo fue cuantificar la producción anual de hojarasca en un fragmento de Bosque Atlántico en el noreste de Brasil. Para obtener datos sobre la producción de hojarasca se utilizaron 10 colectores cónicos con una superficie media de 0,128 m 2 , situados a 1 m de altura. El material se recogía mensualmentg, se secaba a temperatura ambiente durante 48 h y se separaba en fracciones: hojas, corteza, ramas, material de reproducción y miscelánea. Después de la separación las fracciones fueron pesadas y almacenadas. La producción de hojarasca fue ininterrumpida y ascendió a un total de 5.038,72 kg ha -1 .año~ 1 , con la mayor producción en septiembre, al comienzo del período seco, y la menor en julio. La fracción foliar fue la que presentó el mayor aporte en la producción de la hojarasca, con 3.744,26 kg ha -1 año- 1 , seguida del material de reproducción que alcanzó a 846,29 kg ha -1 año -1 , las ramas y las cáscaras con 396,10 kg ha -1 añoy material misceláneo con 52.069 kg ha -1 año -1 . Las correlaciones de la producción de hojarasca con la lluvia y la temperatura resultaron negativas. La producción de hojarasca en el fragmento fue menor que la obtenida en otras zonas del Bosque Atlántico, posiblemente porque se encuentra en una región considerada un ecotono con la Caatinga, además del efecto antrópico al que ha estado sometido durante décadas.

Abstract We examine the pacing strategies of elite swimmers of the 200 m freestyle from six long courses World Championships and three editions of the Olympic Games. The entries, partials, and total race times of the finalist swimmers were analysed. The results showed that the 1st lap is the one with the most significant difference, both for males (.0008) and females (< .0001), justified by the push-off against a solid (block). In addition, athletes perform their strategies assuming a negative correlation in the 1st half of the race and a positive correlation in the 2nd half. Also, the winner’s time difference percentage was below compared with the median of total race time, where the Transition α (difference between 1st to 2nd and 3rd places, and the difference of 3rd place to other athletes) is faster in the 2nd half of the race by +3.23% for men and +2.50% for women. It is concluded that the 1st lap presents better reciprocity to the final time. The winners are faster than the median in the 2nd half of the race. Still, the %Time becomes an option, related to the possibility of using the pacing of different athletes, as an option for coaches and athletes.

RESUMEN: La hojarasca tiene valores fundamentales de carbono acumulado en su biomasa, con una participación esencial en todo el sistema forestal, tanto, para la captura de carbono como para los beneficios al ciclo biogeoquímico en el suministro de la demanda nutricional del suelo. El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar las características de la hojarasca de clones de eucalipto en relación con el aporte de biomasa, carbono y nutrientes en cada una de sus fracciones formadoras en un sistema de producción integrado a los 10 años de edad. Se evaluó la producción acumulada de hojarasca de dos híbridos, Eucalyptus urophylla x E. grandis (AAC 645) y E. urophylla x E. camaldulensis (AAC 33). La colecta se realizó en áreas de 1 m 2 para cada clon y se evaluó la biomasa de hojarasca acumulada, el contenido de carbono, el contenido de nutrientes y el stock de cada componente de la hojarasca. El clon AAC 645 tuvo la biomasa de hojarasca y el stock de carbono más altos. La fracción de ramas en ambos clones mostró mayores promedios de biomasa y carbono acumulado, así como soporte nutricional. El clon AAC 645 presentó mayor contenido de nutrientes totales, excepto Ca, Mg y S.

ABSTRACT: Litter has fundamental carbon values accumulated in its biomass, with an essential participation in the whole forest system for both carbón sequestration and for the benefits to the biogeochemical cycle in supplying the soil's nutritional demand. This study aimed to evaluate the litter characteristics of eucalyptus clones regarding the contribution of biomass, carbon, and nutrients in each of its forming fractions in an integrated production system at 10 years of age. The accumulated litterfall production of two hybrids, Eucalyptus urophylla x E. grandis (AAC 645) and E. urophylla x E. camaldulensis (AAC 33), was evaluated. The collection was carried out in 1 m2 plots for each clone, and the accumulated litter biomass, carbon content, nutrient content, and stock of each litter component were evaluated. Clone AAC 645 had the highest litter biomass and carbon stock. The branch fraction in both clones showed higher biomass accumulated carbon averages, and nutritional support. Clone AAC 645 had higher total nutrient content, except for Ca, Mg, and S.

ABSTRACT Compaction is one of the main physical factors of the soil to affect plant development. The aim of this study was to evaluate root and shoot development in winter plants grown in soils of different textures under varying degrees of soil compaction (DSC). The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse of the State University of Ponta Grossa, in the south of Brazil. Wheat (Triticum aestivum) and an intercropping system of black oats (Avena strigosa) and forage turnip (Raphanus sativus) were tested in a sandy loam Cambisol and a clayey loam Latosol under a DSC of 85%, 90%, 95% and 100% of the maximum bulk density in a completely randomised design with four replications. Each plot consisted of one PVC column, 0.1 m in diameter and 0.2 m in height, comprising three cylinders placed one on top of the other, with a respective height of 0.08, 0.04 and 0.08 m. The sub-surface layer (0.08-0.12 m) was compacted, and corresponded to the middle cylinder. In t he compacted sub-surface layer, the intercropped black oats and forage turnip presented 28.5% more root dry matter (RDM) than did the wheat. The total RDM decreased by 32% for an increase of 85% to 100% in the DSC, where both the compacted sub-surface layer (0.08-0.12 m) and the layer below that (0.12-0.2 m) were most affected, with a reduction of 45.2% and 53%, respectively. Considering the conditions of this study, which evaluated soils that offer no water or chemical restrictions on the plants, shoot dry matter (SDM) was less affected than the roots, decreasing by 12% for an increase of 85% to 100% in the DSC. There was no difference between the types of soil on crop response due to the variation in the DSC.

RESUMO A co mpactação é um dos principais fatores físicos do solo que afetam o desenvolvimento vegetal. A pesquisa objetivou avaliar o desenvolvimento aéreo e radicular de plantas de inverno cultivadas em solos de diferentes granulometrias e submetidos a diferentes graus de compactação do solo (GCS). O experimento foi conduzido em casa de vegetação na Universidade Estadual de Ponta Grossa. Foram testados o trigo (Triticum aestivum) e o consórcio de aveia preta (Avena strigosa) + nabo forrageiro (Raphanus sativus) em Cambissolo franco arenoso e Latossolo franco argiloso nos GCS de 85, 90, 95 e 100% da densidade máxima, no delineamento experimental inteiramente casualizado com quatro repetições. Cada parcela era formada por uma coluna de PVC com diâmetro de 0,1 m e altura de 0,2 m, composta por três anéis sobrepostos com altura de 0,08, 0,04 e 0,08 m respectivamente na porção superior, intermediária e inferior. A camada compactada foi a subsuperficial (0,08-0,12 m), correspondente ao anel intermediário. O consórcio de espécies apresentou massa seca de raízes (MSR) 28,5% superior ao trigo na camada subsuperficial compactada. A MSR total diminuiu 32% com o aumento de 85 para 100% no GCS, sendo a camada compactada (0,08-0,12 m) e a camada abaixo dela (0,12-0,2 m) as mais afetadas, com redução de 45,2 e 53%, respectivamente. Considerando as condições deste estudo, o qual avaliou solos sem restrições hídricas e químicas para as plantas, a massa seca de parte aérea (MSA) foi menos afetada que as raízes, pois diminuiu 12% com o aumento de 85 para 100% no GCS. Não houve diferença entre o tipo de solo sobre a resposta das culturas devido a variação no GCS.

ABSTRACT The objective of the present work was to evaluate the influence of environmental variables on the interaction between genotypes and environments and to identify adapted and stable genotypes for grain seed yield. Twenty-one cultivars were evaluated in randomized blocks with four replications in the years 2016, 2017, and 2018 in the northeastern semi-arid region of Brazil, for seed yield and oil content. Factor regression methodologies and principal component analysis were used with predictions of the sum of the genotypic effects and the interaction to quantify the role of five environmental covariates in the genotype x environment interaction; the Harmonic Mean Method of Relative Performance of Genotypic Values was used for identifying adapted and stable genotypes. The covariance biplot model is useful for relating important environmental factors and indicating their relative effect on seed yield and oil content. Rainfall, relative humidity and maximum temperature contribute positively to increasing oil content while minimum temperature and solar radiation reduce it. Within the limits of the work, the maximum temperature positively influences grain production while the minimum reduces it. The most stable genotypes and those adapted for grain seed yield and oil content are BMX OPUS IPRO, P 98Y70 RR, BRS 333 RR, BRS 9280 RR, M 8644 IPRO, M 8372 IPRO, and ST 920 RR.

RESUMO O objetivo do presente trabalho foi avaliar a influência de variáveis ambientais na interação entre genótipos e ambientes e identificar genótipos adaptados e estáveis para a produção de sementes. Vinte e uma cultivares foram avaliadas em blocos ao acaso com quatro repetições nos anos de 2016, 2017 e 2018 no semiárido nordestino do Brasil, para rendimento de sementes e teor de óleo. Metodologias de regressão fatorial e análise de componentes principais foram utilizadas com previsões da soma dos efeitos genotípicos e a interação para quantificar o papel de cinco covariáveis ambientais na interação genótipo x ambiente; o Método da Média Harmônica de Desempenho Relativo de Valores Genotípicos foi usado para identificar genótipos adaptados e estáveis. O modelo biplot de covariância é útil para relacionar fatores ambientais importantes e indicar seu efeito relativo no rendimento de sementes e no teor de óleo. A precipitação, a umidade relativa e a temperatura máxima contribuem positivamente para aumentar o teor de óleo, enquanto a temperatura mínima e a radiação solar o reduzem. Dentro dos limites do trabalho, a temperatura máxima influencia positivamente a produção de grãos enquanto a mínima a reduz. Os genótipos mais estáveis e adaptados para rendimento de sementes de grãos e teor de óleo são BMX OPUS IPRO, P 98Y70 RR, BRS 333 RR, BRS 9280 RR, M 8644 IPRO, M 8372 IPRO e ST 920 RR.

ABSTRACT Rainfall simulators are an important tool in many areas of geosciences. The authors of most of the studies published with rainfall simulators try to get the most uniform distribution of precipitation as possible. However, since this is very difficult, indexes are used to assess the greater or lesser uniformity of precipitation in the plot area under study. One of the most used indexes is the Christiansen uniformity coefficient. In this work, changes in the geometry of the wetted area of the plot were analyzed to improve the uniformity of precipitation. This was evaluated through the intensity of precipitation and Christiansen uniformity coefficient in the wet area. The tests were carried out using two models of spray nozzles and different operating pressures. The initial plot geometry was 0.7 x 1.0 m (0.7 m2). The Christiansen uniformity coefficient results were classified as low, while the best performance in terms of precipitation uniformity was obtained at a pressure of 48.3 kPa. Non-uniform precipitation was observable near the outer limits of the plot. Based on the best Christiansen uniformity coefficient results, it was proposed to reduce the effective area of the experimental plot from 0.70 to 0.56 m2, leading to a precipitation intensity of 114.07 and 149.20 mm·h−1, and a Christiansen uniformity coefficient of 81.6 and 83.8%, with the two models of spray nozzles. The results showed that adjusting the geometry of the plot can lead, in a simple and fast way, to a better uniformity of artificial rainfall.

RESUMO Os simuladores de chuva são uma importante ferramenta para várias áreas das geociências. Os autores da maioria dos estudos publicados com simuladores de chuva tentam conseguir uma distribuição da precipitação o mais uniforme possível. Contudo, sendo tal muito difícil, são utilizados índices que visam aferir a maior ou menor uniformidade da precipitação na área da parcela em estudo. Um dos mais utilizados é o coeficiente de uniformidade de Christiansen. Neste trabalho, foram analisadas possíveis alterações da geometria da área molhada da parcela para melhorar a uniformidade da precipitação. Isso foi avaliado através da intensidade da precipitação e do coeficiente de uniformidade de Christiansen na área molhada da parcela. Os testes foram realizados utilizando dois modelos de bicos pulverizadores e diferentes pressões de operação. A geometria inicial da parcela era de 0,7 x 1,0 m (0.70 m2). Os resultados do coeficiente de uniformidade de Christiansen foram classificados como baixos, enquanto o melhor desempenho em termos de uniformidade de precipitação foi obtido a uma pressão de 48,3 kPa. A precipitação com menor uniformidade foi observável próximo dos limites externos da parcela. Com base nos melhores resultados do coeficiente de uniformidade de Christiansen, propôs-se reduzir a área útil da parcela experimental de 0,70 para 0,56 m2, levando a uma intensidade de precipitação de 114.07 e 149.20 mm·h−1 e a um coeficiente de uniformidade de Christiansen de 81,6 e 83,8% para os dois modelos de bicos pulverizadores. Os resultados mostraram que proceder com ajustes na geometria da parcela pode conduzir, de forma simples e rápida, a uma maior uniformidade da precipitação artificial.

Abstract There are few studies on fog in the Brazilian Northeast (BNE) and they show that the formation processes are different in each location. Data from various sources were used for 9 years (2008-2016): a) surface data obtained by REDEMET; b) radiosonde by the University of Wyoming; c) satellites images from the GOES and METEOSAT available on CPTEC; d) reanalysis products of the ECMWF, NOAA and NCAR. Meteorological fields and simulated vertical profiles were plotted for synoptic and thermodynamic analysis. In Maceio (M) 20 cases were reported, formed by surface trough, only one event was identified from satellite product. In Campina Grande (CG) 105 cases were recorded, most of which were caused by a surface ridge; only four events were identified by satellite products. All cases in all cities had a shorter duration than observed by METAR and satisfactory results by PAFOG were obtained. Fog forecast by PAFOG was satisfactory with 6 and 12 h antecedence in M and CG. Fog formation in the BNE is atypical, especially in Maceio, where it is rarely identified by satellite data. However, the prediction by the PAFOG model presents satisfactory results up to 12 h antecedence.

Resumo Existem poucos estudos sobre nevoeiro no Nordeste Brasileiro (BNE) e eles mostram que os processos de formação são diferentes em cada localidade. Foram utilizados dados de diversas fontes durante 9 anos (2008-2016): a) dados de superfície obtidos pela REDEMET; b) radiossondagem pela Universidade de Wyoming; c) imagens de satélite do GOES e METEOSAT disponíveis no CPTEC; d) produtos de reanálise do ECMWF, NOAA e NCAR. Foram plotados campos meteorológicos e perfis verticais simulados para análises sinóticas e termodinâmicas. Em Maceió (M) foram notificados 20 casos, formados por crista de superfície, apenas um evento foi identificado a partir de produto de satélite. Em Campina Grande (CG) foram registrados 105 casos, sendo a maioria causada por cavado na superfície; apenas quatro eventos foram identificados por produtos de satélite. Todos os casos em todas as cidades tiveram uma duração menor do que o observado pelo METAR e resultados satisfatórios pelo PAFOG foram obtidos. A previsão de nevoeiro pelo PAFOG foi satisfatória com 6 e 12 horas de antecedência em M e CG. A formação de nevoeiro no NEB é atípica, principalmente em Maceió, onde raramente é identificada por dados de satélite. Entretanto, a predição pelo modelo PAFOG apresenta resultados satisfatórios até 12 horas de antecedência.

Objectives To correlate the serum levels of OSM, soluble OSM receptor (sOSMR), and soluble fraction of glycoprotein 130 (sgp130) in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) with clinical parameters. Methods Levels of sOSMR and sgp130 were evaluated by ELISA and OSM by Western Blot, in patients with CCS (n=100), patients with ACS (n=70), and 64 control volunteers without clinical manifestations of the disease. P-values < 0.05 were considered to be statistically significant. Results CAD patients exhibited significantly lower levels of sOSMR and sgp130 and higher levels of OSM when compared to the controls (both p < 0.0001). Clinical analysis displayed, lower levels of sOSMR in men ([OR] = 2.05, p = 0.026), youth (OR = 1.68, p = 0.0272), hypertensives (OR = 2.19, p = 0.041), smokers (OR = 2.19, p = 0.017), patients that did not present dyslipidemia (OR = 2.32, p = 0.013), patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction [AMI] (OR = 3.01, p = 0.001) and patients not treated with statin (OR = 1.95, p = 0.031), antiplatelet agent (OR = 2.46, p = 0.005), inhibitors of calcium channels (OR = 3.15, p = 0.028), and antidiabetic drugs (OR = 2.97, p = 0.005). The levels of sOSMR were also correlated with gender, age, hypertension, and use of medications in multivariate analysis. Conclusions Our data suggest that the enhanced serum levels of OSM, and decreased levels of sOSMR and sGP130 in patients with cardiac injury may play an important role in the pathophysiological mechanism of the disease. Furthermore, lower levels of sOSMR were associated with gender, age, hypertension, and the use of medications.

Resumo Fundamento A oncostatina M (OSM) é uma citocina pleiotrópica que, após lesão arterial, demonstra ser expressa rapidamente. Objetivos Correlacionar os níveis séricos da OSM, do receptor solúvel de oncostatina M (sOSMR) e da fração solúvel de glicoproteína 130 (sgp130) em pacientes com doença arterial coronariana (DAC) a parâmetros clínicos. Métodos Os níveis de sOSMR e sgp130 foram avaliados por ELISA, enquanto os de OSM foram avaliados por Western Blot, em pacientes com SCC (n=100), pacientes com SCA (n=70) e 64 voluntários do grupo de controle sem manifestações clínicas da doença. Valores de p <0,05 foram considerados estatisticamente significativos. Resultados Pacientes com DAC exibiram níveis significativamente mais baixos de sOSMR e sgp130 e níveis mais altos de OSM em comparação ao grupo de controle (ambos p <0,0001). A análise clínica mostrou níveis mais baixos de sOSMR em homens ([OR] = 2,05, p = 0,026), jovens (OR = 1,68, p = 0,0272), hipertensos (OR = 2,19, p = 0,041), fumantes (OR = 2,19, p = 0,017), pacientes que não apresentavam dislipidemia (OR = 2,32, p = 0,013), pacientes com infarto agudo do miocárdio [IAM] (OR = 3,01, p = 0,001) e pacientes não tratados com estatina (OR = 1,95, p = 0,031), antiplaquetário (OR = 2,46, p = 0,005), inibidores dos canais de cálcio (OR = 3,15, p = 0,028) e antidiabéticos (OR = 2,97, p = 0,005). Os níveis de sOSMR também foram correlacionados a sexo, idade, hipertensão e uso de medicamentos na análise multivariada. Conclusões Nossos dados sugerem que o aumento dos níveis séricos de OSM e a diminuição dos níveis de sOSMR e sGP130 em pacientes com injúria cardíaca podem desempenhar um papel importante no mecanismo fisiopatológico da doença. Além disso, níveis mais baixos de sOSMR foram associados a sexo, idade, hipertensão e uso de medicamentos.

Abstract There are few studies on fog in the Brazilian Northeast (BNE) and they show that the formation processes are different in each location. Data from various sources were used for 9 years (2008-2016): a) surface data obtained by REDEMET; b) radiosonde by the University of Wyoming; c) satellites images from the GOES and METEOSAT available on CPTEC; d) reanalysis products of the ECMWF, NOAA and NCAR. Meteorological fields and simulated vertical profiles were plotted for synoptic and thermodynamic analysis. In Maceio (M) 20 cases were reported, formed by surface trough, only one event was identified from satellite product. In Campina Grande (CG) 105 cases were recorded, most of which were caused by a surface ridge; only four events were identified by satellite products. All cases in all cities had a shorter duration than observed by METAR and satisfactory results by PAFOG were obtained. Fog forecast by PAFOG was satisfactory with 6 and 12 h antecedence in M and CG. Fog formation in the BNE is atypical, especially in Maceio, where it is rarely identified by satellite data. However, the prediction by the PAFOG model presents satisfactory results up to 12 h antecedence.

Resumo Existem poucos estudos sobre nevoeiro no Nordeste Brasileiro (BNE) e eles mostram que os processos de formação são diferentes em cada localidade. Foram utilizados dados de diversas fontes durante 9 anos (2008-2016): a) dados de superfície obtidos pela REDEMET; b) radiossondagem pela Universidade de Wyoming; c) imagens de satélite do GOES e METEOSAT disponíveis no CPTEC; d) produtos de reanálise do ECMWF, NOAA e NCAR. Foram plotados campos meteorológicos e perfis verticais simulados para análises sinóticas e termodinâmicas. Em Maceió (M) foram notificados 20 casos, formados por crista de superfície, apenas um evento foi identificado a partir de produto de satélite. Em Campina Grande (CG) foram registrados 105 casos, sendo a maioria causada por cavado na superfície; apenas quatro eventos foram identificados por produtos de satélite. Todos os casos em todas as cidades tiveram uma duração menor do que o observado pelo METAR e resultados satisfatórios pelo PAFOG foram obtidos. A previsão de nevoeiro pelo PAFOG foi satisfatória com 6 e 12 horas de antecedência em M e CG. A formação de nevoeiro no NEB é atípica, principalmente em Maceió, onde raramente é identificada por dados de satélite. Entretanto, a predição pelo modelo PAFOG apresenta resultados satisfatórios até 12 horas de antecedência.

BACKGROUND Leishmania RNA virus 1 (LRV1) is commonly found in South American Leishmania parasites belonging to the subgenus Viannia, whereas Leishmania RNA virus 2 (LRV2) was previously thought to be restricted to the Old-World pathogens of the subgenus Leishmania. OBJECTIVES In this study, we investigated the presence of LRV2 in strains of Leishmania (L.) infantum, the causative agent of visceral leishmaniasis (VL), originating from different hosts, clinical forms, and geographical regions. METHODS A total of seventy-one isolates were screened for LRV2 using semi-nested reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) targeting the RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) gene. FINDINGS We detected LRV2 in two L. infantum isolates (CUR268 and HP-EMO) from canine and human cases, respectively. MAIN CONCLUSIONS To the best of our knowledge, this is the first detection of LRV2 in the New World.

ABSTRACT. Two muriqui species are currently described in the literature: the southern muriqui, Brachyteles arachnoides (E. Geofroy, 1806) and the northern muriqui, Brachyteles hypoxanthus (Kuhl, 1820). Nowadays, the distribution of the southern muriqui is restricted to forest patches of the states of Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Paraná, while the northern muriqui occurs in Espírito Santo, Bahia and Minas Gerais. Both are threatened species, but there are still many gaps in our knowledge of their occurrence, especially for southern muriquis in the state of RJ. The purpose of this work is precisely to identify the primary areas of occurrence of the muriqui in Rio de Janeiro through historical reports by naturalists, adventurers and others since the 16th century. Thus, allowing to assist in the establishment and conservation strategies of the species.

RESUMO. Existem duas espécies de muriquis descritas atualmente na literatura: muriqui do sul, Brachyteles arachnoides (E. Geoffroy, 1806) e muriqui-do-norte, Brachyteles hypoxanthus (Kuhl, 1820). Atualmente, o muriqui-do-sul tem sua distribuição restrita a fragmentos florestais dos estados do Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo e Paraná, enquanto o muriqui do norte ocorre no Espírito Santo, Bahia e Minas Gerais. Ambas são espécies ameaçadas, mas ainda existem muitas lacunas no conhecimento de sua ocorrência, principalmente para os muriquis-do-sul do estado do RJ. O intuito desse trabalho é justamente identificar as áreas primárias da ocorrência do muriqui no Rio de Janeiro por meio de relatos históricos de naturalistas, aventureiros e outros desde o século XVI, permitindo assim, auxiliar no estabelecimento e estratégias de conservação da espécie.

This work investigates whether there are harmonic sets which are universally prioritized when fitting the chromatic just scale with equal-tempered tunings. We design a method to find which temperaments properly and non-ambiguously fit a set of pure intervals and show that: (a) Within range N ∈ [9, 54], temperaments with 12, 19, 22, 24, 31, 34, 41 and 53 divisions are suitable for adjusting the twelve-tone chromatic just scale – in particular, 53 divisions provide the most accurate fit, (b) For M-element subsets of the chromatic universe with M ∈ [3, 7], these solutions are always more faithfully reproduced when the target set is a major scale rather than a minor one, and (c) Sequences of notes uniformly distributed over the octave are disadvantageous references for finding suitable temperaments numerically. The latter observation suggests a mathematical background for understanding the preference for non-uniform scales in world music revealed by recent studies in ethnomusicology.

Este trabalho investiga se existem conjuntos harmônicos que são universalmente priorizados ao se ajustar a escala cromática pura com uma afinação igualmente temperada. Nós criamos um método para encontrar quais temperamentos ajustam de forma não-ambígua um conjunto de intervalos puros e mostramos que: (a) No intervalo N ∈ [9, 54] temperamentos com 12, 19, 22, 24, 31, 41 e 53 divisões são os adequados para ajustar a escala cromática pura de 12 notas – em particular, 53 divisões proporcionam o ajuste mais preciso, (b) Para subconjuntos com M ∈ [3, 7] notas, essas soluções são sempre mais fielmente reproduzidas por escalas maiores, em comparação com as menores, e (c) Sequências de notas uniformemente distribuídas pela oitava são referências desvantajosas para a busca numérica de bons temperamentos. A última observação sugere um contexto matemático para entender a preferência por escalas não-uniformes na música mundial revelada por estudos recentes em etnomusicologia.

ABSTRACT The average yield and quality of sweetpotato in Brazil are below the crop potential due to several traits that can be improved by plant breeding. This study aimed to evaluate the performance of sweet potato advanced clones with potential to be released as new cultivars, recommend cultivars with better attributes for grower's needs at the subtropical region of Brazil or to be used as parents in breeding programs. The genotypes MD1604002, MD1611010, MD1609023, MD1609024, MD1609026, and MD1610036 and cultivars Brazlândia Roxa, Beauregard, BRS Cuia, BRS Amélia, and BRS Rubissol, were evaluated during two seasons 2020/2021 and 2021/2022, in Canoinhas-SC. The experiments were conducted in complete randomized blocks design with four replications where plots were composed of three rows with 15 plants each, spaced 0.75 m apart with 0.35 m between plants. Storage roots were harvested 180 days after planting and evaluated for yield, appearance, insect damage, and shape characteristics. ‘BRS Rubissol’, the genotype MD1610036, with higher root yield, storage roots shape, appearance, and less susceptible to insect damage, and MD1609024, with a good root yield, similar or superior to cultivars Brazlândia Roxa, Beauregard, and BRS Amélia, stood out, and have potential to be cultivated in this region. ‘Brazlândia Roxa’ and genotype MD1611010 are potential sources of resistance genes to insect damage, which is one of the biggest challenges in sweetpotato production in Brazil.

RESUMO A produtividade média e a qualidade da batata-doce no Brasil estão abaixo do potencial da cultura, devido, dentre outros fatores, a caracteres que podem ser melhorados pelo melhoramento genético de plantas. Este trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar o desempenho de clones avançados de batata-doce com potencial para serem lançados como novas cultivares, e também recomendar cultivares com melhores características para produtores da região subtropical do Brasil, ou para serem utilizadas como genitores em programas de melhoramento. Os genótipos de batata-doce MD1604002, MD1611010, MD1609023, MD1609024, MD1609026 e MD1610036 e as cultivares Brazlândia Roxa, Beauregard, BRS Cuia, BRS Amélia e BRS Rubissol, foram avaliados durante duas safras 2020/2021 e 2021/2022, em Canoinhas-SC. Os experimentos foram conduzidos em delineamento de blocos completos casualizados com quatro repetições de parcelas compostas por três linhas com 15 plantas cada, espaçadas 0.75 m com 0.35 m entre plantas. As raízes foram colhidas 180 dias após o plantio e avaliadas quanto ao rendimento, aparência, danos causados por insetos e características de formato. Destacam-se ‘BRS Rubissol’ e o genótipo MD1610036 com elevado rendimento, formato, a aparência de raízes, e menos suscetíveis a danos por insetos, além de MD1609024, com rendimento de raízes similar ou superior às cultivares Brazlândia Roxa, Beauregard e BRS Amélia, se destacaram e apresentam potencial para serem cultivados nesta região. ‘Brazlândia Roxa’ e o genótipo MD1611010 são potenciais fontes de genes de resistência a danos causados por insetos, que é um dos maiores desafios na produção de batata-doce no Brasil.
