Resumo Objetivou-se avaliar os efeitos dos manejos do pastejo ponta e repasse combinados a substituição parcial da proteína do suplemento por nitrogênio ureico sobre o consumo e digestibilidade dos nutrientes, composição do leite e balanço de nitrogênio de vacas primíparas da raça Girolanda. As vacas foram alocadas em dois quadrados latinos 4 x 4 compostos de quatro animais cada e quatro tratamentos em um esquema fatorial 2 x 2. Os suplementos foram formulados para um consumo de 0,6% do peso corporal: sem utilização de nitrogênio ureico; ou com 21% de nitrogênio ureico em sua composição. O manejo do pastejo de ponta melhorou o consumo e a digestibilidade dos nutrientes. O suplemento contendo ureia excretou 47% a mais de N urina (g/dia) em comparação ao suplemento sem ureia. A combinação entre o suplemento sem ureia e o manejo de pastejo ponta apresentou maior ingestão e retenção de nitrogênio e maior N retido (%N digerido). A combinação entre o suplemento contendo 21% de nitrogênio ureico e o pastejo de ponta pode ser utilizada sem prejuízos aos parâmetros nutricionais e produtivos das vacas.

Abstract This study aimed to evaluate the effect of the first and last stocking strategies combined with a partial substitution of the protein from the supplement for urea nitrogen on nutrient intake and digestibility, milk composition, and nitrogen balance of primiparous Girolando cows. The cows were allocated to a double 4 × 4 Latin square composed of four animals and four treatments in a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement. Supplements were formulated to provide an intake of 0.6% body weight, with and without the inclusion of 21% urea nitrogen in their composition. The first stocking management method improved nutrient intake and digestibility. Supplementation with urea led to a 47% higher excretion of urine N (g/day) than the urea treatment. The combination of the supplement without urea and the first stocking provided higher intake and retention of nitrogen and higher retained-N levels (%digested N). The combination of a supplement containing 21% urea nitrogen and the first stocking can be used without compromising the nutritional and productive parameters of the cows.

RESUMO A variante sólida do cisto ósseo aneurismático (COA) é considerada lesão rara, ocorre com maior frequência nos pacientes pediátricos e nos ossos da tíbia, fêmur, pelve e úmero. Apresentamos o caso de uma lesão lítica metafisária na extremidade distal do rádio de uma criança em que, ao exame radiográfico feito devido a um trauma de baixa energia, foi aventada a hipótese de fratura em um osso patológico secundária a um cisto ósseo aneurismático. Após a biópsia, a criança foi submetida a ressecção intralesional sem interposição de enxerto e o exame histopatológico foi condizente com a variante sólida do cisto ósseo aneurismático.

ABSTRACT The solid variant of aneurismal bone cysts (ABC) is considered rare. It occurs with greater frequency in pediatric patients and in the tibia, femur, pelvis and humerus. We present a case of a metaphyseal lytic lesion on the distal extremity of the radius in a child whose radiograph was requested after low-energy trauma. The hypothesis of a pathological bone fracture secondary to an aneurysmal bone cyst was suggested. After biopsy, the child underwent intralesional excision without bone grafting and the histopathological findings were compatible with the solid variant of aneurysmal bone cyst.

Objetivou-se, com este estudo avaliar a viabilidade econômica de diferentes níveis de orégano nas dietas de vacas lactantes alimentadas com cana-de-açúcar. Utilizaram-se 12 vacas mestiças Holandês x Zebu, distribuídas em três quadrados latinos 4 x 4. Os quatro tratamentos foram constituídos de diferentes níveis de orégano, como se segue: dieta controle sem orégano (0%); dieta com 0,8; 1,6 e 2,4% de orégano. As dietas foram calculadas para suprir as exigências de mantença e produção de 15 kg de leite/dia. Utilizaram-se, para efeito de estudo da análise econômica, dois indicadores econômicos, valor presente líquido e taxa interna de retorno. O custo total por animal e por litro de leite produzido aumentou com a inclusão de orégano na dieta. A inclusão de orégano não foi eficiente tanto na produtividade quanto na lucratividade, com os preços iguais a R$ 0,87; 0,97; 1,09; 1,22 e R$ 0,78; 1,03; 1,28 e 1,52 de leite e concentrado, respectivamente para cada nível de inclusão. A taxa interna de retorno foi mais vantajosa quando não se utilizou orégano na dieta, sendo viável o uso de orégano até 0,8% de inclusão na dieta de vacas lactantes nas condições do presente experimento. O cálculo do valor presente líquido demonstrou que este investimento é interessante para todas as taxas de desconto utilizadas na dieta sem inclusão de orégano, demonstrando que, neste tratamento, a atividade foi viável a todo custo de oportunidade.

This study aimed to evaluate the economic viability of using different levels of oregano in diets for lactating cows fed sugar cane. We used 12 crossbred Holstein x Zebu cows assigned to three 4 x 4 Latin squares. The four treatments consisted of different levels of oregano: oregano free-control diet (0%) and diets added with 0.8, 1.6, and 2.4% oregano. Diets were formulated to meet the requirements for maintenance and milk production of 15 kg day-1. For economic analysis, we employed two economic indicators, net present value and internal rate of return. The total cost per animal and per liter of milk produced has increased with the inclusion of oregano. The inclusion of oregano was not effective for both productivity and profitability, with prices equal to R$ 0.87, 0.97, 1.09, 1.22, and R$ 0.78, 1.03, 1.28, and 1.52 of milk and concentrate, respectively for each level of inclusion. The internal rate of return was more advantageous when not adding oregano in the diet, indicating the viability of using oregano up to 0.8% inclusion to the diet of dairy cows under the conditions of this experiment. The net present value demonstrated that this investment is interesting for all discount rates used in the diet without the addition of oregano, pointing out that, in this treatment, the activity was feasible for any opportunity cost.

Objetivou-se avaliar o efeito da inclusão de níveis de glicerina bruta na dieta sobre o comportamento ingestivo de vacas leiteiras confinadas. Foram utilizadas 15 vacas mestiças Holandês x Zebu, distribuídas em três quadrados latinos 5 x 5, nos tratamentos: controle (sem inclusão de glicerina); inclusão de 50, 100, 150 e 200 g de glicerina bruta por kg de matéria seca (MS) da dieta. Os animais foram submetidos a cinco avaliações visuais do comportamento ingestivo, durante 24h, em cada avaliação. Foi observado aumento linear sobre os tempos de alimentação e ruminação e decréscimo do tempo de ócio com a inclusão dos níveis de glicerina bruta (p < 0,05). Houve efeito linear decrescente sobre o consumo de matéria seca e fibra em detergente neutro corrigida para cinzas e proteína (FDNcp), o mesmo efeito foi observado para as eficiências de alimentação e ruminação da matéria seca e da FDNcp com a inclusão da glicerina bruta na dieta (p < 0,05). O número de períodos e o tempo de duração das atividades comportamentais não foram afetados pela inclusão da glicerina bruta (p > 0,05). A glicerina bruta não afetou drasticamente o comportamento ingestivo das vacas leiteiras.

Current experiment evaluated the inclusion effect of crude glycerin levels in the diet on the feeding behavior of confined dairy cows. Fifteen crossbred Holstein x Zebu cows were used, divided into three 5 x 5 Latin squares, with treatments: control (no addition of glycerin) and inclusion of 50, 100, 150 and 200 g crude glycerin per kg of dry matter (DM) in the diet. The animals were subjected to five visual assessments of feeding behavior for 24 hours in each period. Linear increase on feeding time and rumination and on decrease of idle time with the inclusion of crude glycerin levels (p < 0.05) was reported. There was a linear effect on consumption of dry matter and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) corrected for ash and protein (NDF); a similar effect was registered for intake and ruminating efficiencies of dry matter and NDF with the inclusion of crude glycerin in the diet (p < 0.05). The number of periods and duration of behavioral activities was not affected by the inclusion of crude glycerin (p > 0.05). Crude glycerin did not drastically affect the feeding behavior of dairy cows.

Atualmente há grande necessidade de maior disponibilização de material didático no ensino médico. A escassez de segmentos anatômicos e a toxicidade dos conservantes, como o formol, têm gerado uma busca intensa por novos meios de demonstração da anatomia humana. Como solução para esta dificuldade pode-se utilizar imagens tridimensionais (3D), que facilitam o processo de aprendizado. Este estudo tem como objetivo comparar e descrever duas técnicas de reprodução de imagens bidimensionais em três dimensões, o que é chamado de estereoscopia. Os dois métodos avaliados foram o de filtro de cores (anaglífico) e o de luz polarizada. As técnicas foram analisadas segundo a nitidez e o efeito 3D. Avaliaram-se 14 imagens por 5 pessoas, com notas de 0 a 4. A média total da técnica de polarização foi superior em relação à técnica anaglífica. Ambas realizam codificação de imagens, que consiste na separação e na exclusividade com que cada olho vê a imagem correspondente. Após vários ensaios fotográficos e adaptações gradativas a uma melhor técnica, baseando-se em conhecimentos de física elementar, fotografia e neuroanatomia, concluímos que ambas são capazes de produzir efeito 3D. No entanto, a melhor técnica, em termos de qualidade final da imagem foi a de polarização, não alterando a coloração natural da peça, mantendo traços nítidos e possuindo menor custo.

The need of didactic material is increasing in medical science nowadays. The lack of anatomical specimens, and the toxicity of conservators, have originated an intense search for alternative ways of demonstrating the human anatomy. As a solution for this difficulty, three-dimensional (3-D) images may be used, facilitating the learning process. This study aims at comparing and describing two techniques of reproduction of bi-dimensional images into three dimensions, which is called stereoscopy. The methods evaluated are filter of colors (anaglyphic) and polarized light. Techniques were analyzed for clearness and 3-D effect. Fourteen images were evaluated by 5 people, with scores ranging from 0 to 4. Total mean scores of polarized light was superior compared to the anaglyphic technique. Both methods use the codification of the image, which means separation and exclusivity with each eye seeing its corresponding image. After several photographic essays and gradual adaptation to a better technique, based on optical physics, photography and neuroanatomical knowledge, we concluded that both techniques are suitable means for production of 3-D images. The best technique, however, considering the final quality of image was polarized light, which did not alter the natural color of the specimen, conserving clearness of images with lower cost.
