RESUMO Trichogramma pretiosum Riley, 1879 (Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidae) é parasitoide de ovos de lepidópteros praga no milho, Zea mays L. (Poaceae), no Brasil. Produtos químicos usados na agricultura podem ser tóxicos para este agente de controle biológico. O objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar a longevidade, parasitismo e emergência de T. pretiosum em ovos da traça da farinha, Anagasta kuehniella Zeller, 1879 (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) tratados com soluções herbicidas com os ingredientes ativos (grupo químico) atrazina (triazinas), dicloreto de paraquate (bipiridílio) e nicosulfuron (sulfonilureia). Água destilada pura foi usada como controle negativo e a solução de um produto com λ-cialotrina + tiametoxam (piretróide + neonicotinóide, respectivamente) foi usada como controle positivo. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado, com cinco tratamentos e 10 repetições. Ovos de A. kuehniella foram armazenados por dois períodos após tratamento, 24 e 48 horas. Esses ovos foram submetidos ao parasitismo por dois períodos de submissão, 24 e 48 horas. Os resultados foram analisados estatisticamente e classificados de acordo com a International Organization for Biological Control (IOBC). Atrazina e nicosulfuron reduziram a longevidade das fêmeas de T. pretiosum. Nicosulfuron e a combinação λ-cialotrina + tiametoxam reduziram o parasitismo e a emergência deste inimigo natural. O herbicida à base de dicloreto de paraquate foi o menos tóxico e, por isto, representa uma opção em potencial para o controle de plantas daninhas com baixa toxicidade ao parasitóide T. pretiosum.

ABSTRACT Trichogramma pretiosum Riley, 1879 (Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidae) is an egg parasitoid of lepidopteran pests in corn, Zea mays L. (Poaceae), in Brazil. Chemical products used in agriculture can be toxic to this biocontrol agent. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the longevity, parasitism and emergence of T. pretiosum parasitizing Mediterranean flour moth, Anagasta kuehniella Zeller, 1879 (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae), eggs treated with herbicide solutions with the active ingredients (chemical group) atrazine (triazines), paraquat dichloride (bipyridylium) and nicosulfuron (sulfonylurea). Pure distilled water was used as a negative control, and a solution of a product with λ-cyhalothrin + thiamethoxam (pyrethroid + neonicotinoid, respectively) was used as the positive control. The experimental design was completely randomized, with five treatments and 10 replicates. Anagasta kuehniella eggs were stored for two periods after treatment, 24 and 48 hours. These eggs were subjected to parasitism for two subjecting periods, 24 and 48 hours. The results were analysed statistically and classified according to the International Organization for Biological Control (IOBC). Atrazine and nicosulfuron reduced the longevity of T. pretiosum females. Nicosulfuron and the combination λ-cyhalothrin + thiamethoxam reduced the parasitism and emergence of this natural enemy. The paraquat dichloride-based herbicide was the least toxic and therefore represents a potential option for controlling weeds with low toxicity to the T. pretiosum parasitoid.

Resumen El cultivo del litchi, Litchi chinensis, tiene gran popularidad en el mercado internacional. El ácaro del litchi, Aceria litchii (Eriophyidae), es una de las principales plagas de este cultivo, se alimenta de hojas, sobre todo en la parte inferior de las plantas que forman eríneos. El objetivo de esta revisión es presentar los principales métodos de control y proponer técnicas de manejo en el sistema de producción integrado del cultivo de L. chinensis. Se detectaron infestaciones de A. litchii en los huertos de Brasil en 2008 y el uso de insecticidas químicos es el principal método de control de esta plaga. La combinación de métodos de cultivo biológico y químico hace que el sistema sea más satisfactorio en el largo plazo. El control y la prevención del ácaro del litchi son clave para reducir su propagación y establecimiento.

Abstract Litchi chinensis fruits are very popular in the international market. The erinose mite, Aceria litchii (Eriophyidae), a major pest of this crop, feeds on the leaves and on all parts of the plants forming erinea. The purpose of this review is to present the most common control methods and to propose integrated management techniques for L. chinensis production systems. A. litchii infestations were detected in Brazilian orchards in 2008. Chemical pesticides are currently the main control measure for this pest; however, the combination of biological, chemical and cultural methods are more promising in the long term. Controlling and preventing the erinose mite are key factors for reducing its spread and establishment.

Inimigos naturais são importantes para o controle de pragas em culturas agrícolas e florestais. A criação de insetos predadores em biofábricas deve ser de baixo custo para serem utilizados em programas de Manejo Integrado de Pragas (MIP). O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o desenvolvimento de Podisus nigrispinus Dallas, 1851 (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae), alimentado com larvas de Tenebrio molitor Linnaeus, 1758 (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae), criadas com as seguintes dietas: farelo de trigo, ração triturada ou peletizada para aves poedeiras e fubá de milho. Foram obtidos os parâmetros de desenvolvimento e reprodução necessários para calcular a tabela de vida do predador. Os parâmetros da tabela de vida revelaram crescimento populacional em todos os tratamentos. No entanto, a taxa líquida de reprodução (Ro) de P. nigrispinus foi menor quando alimentados com larvas de T. molitor criadas com fubá de milho, mostrando ser a alimentação menos adequada para esse predador. Por proporcionar maior número total de ovos, o farelo de trigo constituiu a melhor dieta para P. nigrispinus. Estudos sobre dietas de presas alternativas são importantes, pois podem favorecer a nutrição de inimigos naturais e, consequentemente, melhorar o desempenho das criações massais em laboratório.

Natural enemies are important for controlling pests in agricultural and forestry culture. The reproductions of predatory insects in biofactories should have low cost to be used in Integrated Pest Management Program (IPM). The objective of this study was to evaluate the development of Podisus nigrispinus Dallas, 1851 (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) fed with Tenebrio molitor Linnaeus, 1758 (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae). The larvae of T. molitor were created with the following diets: wheat bran, shredded or pelleted poultry feed layers and corn meal. Parameters for the development and reproduction of the P. nigrispinus were obtained. Parameters of the life table show population growth in all treatments. However, the net rate of reproduction (Ro) of P. nigrispinus was lower when they were fed with larvae of T. molitor created with corn meal, which proved to be the least adequate food for this predator. By providing a larger total number of eggs, wheat bran was the best diet for P. nigrispinus. Studies on alternative prey diets are important as they may favor the nutrition of natural enemies and, consequently, improve the performance in laboratory rearing.

Besouros do gênero Rhinochenus sp. (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) danificam sementes de espécies da flora do Cerrado brasileiro como o jatobá (Hymenea courbaril L.) e a copaíba (Copaifera langsdorffii Desf.). Este trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar a morfometria de pupas e adultos de R. stigma, bem como aspectos comportamentais, como a emissão de sons, para auxiliar a sexagem desta espécie. Os insetos foram obtidos de frutos de jatobá coletados no Município de São Gonçalo do Rio Preto, em Minas Gerais, Brasil. As características morfométricas de pupas e adultos não apresentaram diferenças pelo teste t, não sendo seguras para a diferenciação dos sexos. Para adultos de R. stigma, a sexagem só foi possível após a morte, pela dissecação dos órgãos genitais.

Beetles of genus Rhinochenus sp. (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) damage the seeds of species of flora of Brazilian savannah such as jatobá (Hymenea courbaril L.) and copaiba (Copaifera langsdorffii Desf.). Thus, the objective of the present was to evaluate the morphology of pupae and adult R. stigma, as well as behavioral aspects such as emission of sounds, to assist in sexing this species. The insects were obtained from jatobá fruits collected in São Gonçalo do Rio Preto, Minas Gerais State, Brazil. The morphometric characteristics of both phases did not differ by t test, being not safe for the differentiation of the sexes. For adults of R. stigma, sexing was possible only after death, by dissection of the genitalia.

Os fertilizantes podem ser usados para alterar as relações de competitividade, de modo a favorecer as espécies cultivadas, desde que as espécies competidoras apresentem respostas diferenciadas à aplicação de nutrientes. Por essas razões, objetivou-se, com este trabalho, avaliar o crescimento do picão preto (Bidens pilosa L.), da braquiária (Brachiaria decumbens Stapf) e da mandioca (Manihot esculenta Crantz), cultivados sob diferentes quantidades de fósforo fornecidas no plantio. Para isso, foi conduzido experimento em casa de vegetação, em arranjo fatorial 3x4, sendo o primeiro fator constituído pelas espécies estudadas, combinadas com quatro níveis de adubação fosfatadas (0, 80,800 e 4.000 kg ha-1 de P2O5), no delineamento em blocos casualizados, com cinco repetições. A aplicação do fertilizante fosfatado promoveu maior crescimento das espécies avaliadas, sendo que a mandioca apresentou maior crescimento da parte área com o aumento da disponibilidade de fósforo. De maneira geral, as plantas daninhas apresentaram maiores respostas às menores doses de fósforo.

Fertilizers may be used to change the competitive relations, favoring the crop species, providing the competing species have different responses to the nutrient application. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the growth of Cassava plant, Bidens pilosa L. and Brachiaria decumbens Stapf, as a function of the amount of P supplied at planting. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse and the, treatments were arranged in a 3 x 4 factorial, involving the three species studied and four levels of phosphate fertilization (absence of P2O5, 80 kg ha-1, 800 kg ha-1 and 4000 kg ha-1 P2O5, equivalent to 0, 1, 10 and 50 times the phosphorus dose recommended, respectively). A randomized block design was used, with five replications. The application of phosphate fertilizer promoted larger growth of the species evaluated, and cassava had higher growth of the shoot with the increased availability of phosphorus. In general, weeds showed higher responses to lower doses of phosphorus.
