Abstract Essential oil (EO) of Cannabis sativa (C. sativa) was evaluated against the egg, larval, pupal, and adult stages of the flea Ctenocephalides felis felis. The chemical composition of EO was determined by gas chromatography with flame ionization and mass spectrometry. EO mainly comprised γ-elemene (16.2%) and caryophyllene oxide (14.2%) as major compounds. To evaluate the mortality of flea stages in vitro, filter paper tests were performed at different concentrations. EO of C. sativa showed insecticidal activity (100% mortality at the highest concentrations) for flea control at egg, larval, pupal, and adult stages, with lethal concentrations (LC50) of 32.45; 91.61; 466.41 and 927.92 μg/cm2, respectively. EO of C. sativa indicated the potential for the development of ectoparasiticide for veterinary use, especially for fleas in egg and larval stages.

Resumo O óleo essencial (OE) de Cannabis sativa (C. sativa) foi avaliado contra os estágios de ovo, larva, pupa e adulto da pulga Ctenocephalides felis felis. A composição química do OE foi determinada por cromatografia gasosa com ionização de chama e espectrometria de massa. O OE foi composto principalmente de γ-elemeno (16,2%) e óxido de cariofileno (14,2%) como compostos majoritários. Para avaliar a mortalidade dos estágios de pulgas in vitro, foram realizados testes de papel filtro em diferentes concentrações. O OE de C. sativa apresentou atividade inseticida (100% de mortalidade nas maiores concentrações), para controle de pulgas nos estágios de ovo, larva, pupa e adulto, com concentrações letais (CL50) de 32,45; 91,61; 466,41 e 927,92 μg/cm2, respectivamente. O OE de C. sativa indicou potencial para o desenvolvimento de ectoparasiticida para uso veterinário, principalmente para pulgas em fase de ovo e larva.

RESUMO O objetivo do estudo foi verificar a satisfação de indivíduos amputados com a prótese de membro inferior (PMI). Trata-se de um estudo longitudinal descritivo. Participaram 34 idosos com amputação de membro inferior (AMI). A satisfação dos participantes com a PMI, os desconfortos e a vergonha de usá-la foram avaliados por meio de uma entrevista composta por 5 perguntas. A ocorrência de quedas e a independência no manuseio da prótese também foram avaliadas. Todas as variáveis foram coletadas na última semana de alta da reabilitação ambulatorial e após 1 e 3 meses. Foi realizada análise estatística descritiva e inferencial. O nível de significância foi estabelecido em 5% (p<0,05). Oitenta por cento dos participantes com amputação transtibial e 78,6% dos participantes com amputação transfemoral estavam satisfeitos com a PMI após três meses de seguimento. A prótese apertada, a dor ao caminhar, a vergonha de usar a PMI e a ocorrência de quedas diminuíram com o tempo. A independência no manuseio da prótese não mudou significativamente após três meses. Os participantes que utilizaram o joelho com trava manual (p=0,040) e/ou o pé com calcanhar sólido (SACH) (p=0,017) estavam mais satisfeitos com a PMI após alta da reabilitação. A ocorrência de quedas diminuiu (p=0,039) nos transfemorais após iniciarem o uso da PMI. A satisfação dos idosos participantes com relação a sua PMI foi alta e não mudou significativamente ao longo do tempo.

ABSTRACT This is a descriptive longitudinal study that aimed to verify prosthesis satisfaction of older adults with lower-limb amputation (LLA). In total, This study was composed of 34 older adults with LLA participated of this study. Participant’s satisfaction about the lower-limb prosthesis (LLP), the discomforts, and the embarrassment when use it were evaluated through an interview composed of five questions. The occurrence of falls and the independence in prosthesis management were also evaluated. All variables were collected at the last week of ambulatory rehabilitation discharge and after one and three months. A descriptive and inferential statistical analysis was performed. The level of significance was set at 5% (p <0.05). In total, 80% of participants with transtibial amputation and 78.6% of participants with transfemoral amputation were satisfied with the LLP after three months. Tight prosthesis, walking pain, the embarrassment of using LLP, and the occurrence of falls decreased over time. The independence in prosthesis handling did not change significantly after three months. Participants that used manual locking knee (p=0.040) and/or Solid-Ankle Cushion Heel foot (p=0.017) were more satisfied with LLP. The occurrence of falls reduced (p=0.039) after transfemoral participants started to use the prosthesis. Participant’s satisfaction with the LLP was high and did not change significantly over time.

RESUMEN El objetivo de este estudio fue verificar si las personas mayores que tienen amputadas un miembro estaban satisfechas con la prótesis de miembro inferior (PMI). Se ha realizado un estudio longitudinal descriptivo. Han participado 34 personas mayores con PMI. La satisfacción de los participantes con la PMI, las molestias y la vergüenza de usarla han sido evaluadas a través de una entrevista con 5 preguntas. Las caídas y la independencia en el manejo de la prótesis también han sido evaluadas. Todas las variables fueron recolectadas en la última semana de alta de rehabilitación en el ambulatorio y después de 1 y 3 meses. Se ha realizado análisis estadístico, descriptivo y de inferencia. El nivel de significancia establecido fue del 5% (p<0,05). Un ochenta por ciento de los participantes con amputación transtibial y el 78,6% con amputación transfemoral estaban satisfechos con la PMI después de tres meses de seguimiento. La prótesis apretada, el dolor al caminar, la vergüenza de usarla y las caídas han disminuido con el tiempo. La independencia con el manejo de la prótesis no ha cambiado significativamente después de tres meses. Los participantes que han utilizado la rodilla con traba manual (p=0,040) y/o el pie con tobillo sólido (SACH) (p=0,017) estaban más satisfechos con la PMI tras la rehabilitación. Las caídas han disminuido (p=0,039) en los transfemorales después de empezar a usar la PMI. Los adultos mayores estaban muy satisfechos con la PMI y no han cambiado de opinión a lo largo del tempo.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to determine the participation frequency and competitive performance of Campolina and Mangalarga Marchador horses in national shows concerning marcha type, sex, and age. To that end, the trial results of national horse shows between 2007 and 2017, comprising 1,781 Campolina and 5,239 Mangalarga Marchador animals, were extracted from the databases of the breeders’ associations of each breed. The results regarding participation frequency in these events and the performance achieved by horses were grouped by breed, marcha type, sex, and age group and then subjected to frequency distribution tests. In both breeds, most animals attended only one national show. However, when the specimens were separated by marcha type, sex, and age, it was observed that 54.39% of marcha batida Campolina males competed twice, with greater participation of adult horses (41.41%) than of young ones (22.22%). For Mangalarga Marchador, irrespective of gait type, the proportion of adult horses (67.22%) that competed was higher than that of young ones (25.63%). For marcha picada competitors, the proportion between young (13.97%) and adult (81.91%) was even higher. It was concluded that, over their competitive careers, most horses of either breed attended only one national show, that marcha picada animals usually compete only when adults, and that marcha batida females compete more often when young. In addition, the age group in which competitors achieve their best performances varies according to the specimen.

Abstract Aim: To verify the association between insufficient level of physical activity and multiple health risk behaviors (HRB) in adolescents. Methods: This is an epidemiological study with cross-sectional design carried out in 2016 with 3,617 adolescents aged 14-19 years and enrolled in the public-school system of Sergipe, northeast Brazil. Data were collected using the Global School-based Student Health Survey (GSHS/WHO). The insufficient level of physical activity was defined as not achieving at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity for 5 days a week. The HRB analyzed were smoking, alcohol consumption, low fruit consumption and exposure to sedentary behavior. The analysis of prevalence odds ratio was used to identify the association between insufficient level of physical activity and HRB, as well as unadjusted and adjusted binary logistic regression for the association between socioeconomic and demographic variables. Results: The prevalence of insufficient level of physical activity was 83.3%. There was association between physical inactivity and low fruit consumption and alcohol consumption (p<0.001). Insufficient level of physical activity was also associated with female sex (OR=1.90, 95% CI, 1.56-2.32), family income of up to 2 minimum wages (OR=1.57, 95% CI, 1.17-2.11), maternal schooling less than 8 years (OR=1.55, 95% CI, 1.28-1.86) and exposure to two different HRB at the same time (OR=1.76, 95% CI, 1.27-2.45). Conclusion: The prevalence of insufficient level of physical activity is high and was associated with multiple HRBs in this understudied population. These findings may support interventions focusing on the cluster of risk behaviors in youth.

RESUMO Os cursos de educação médica têm implementado disciplinas e módulos que aproximem os discentes da realidade da saúde nacional, a fim de se adequarem às crescentes necessidades de reorganização da formação médica. O presente artigo relata uma experiência de acadêmicos de Medicina da Universidade Estadual de Santa Cruz (UESC) com as atividades e ações incluídas no módulo de Gestão e Rede de Atenção à Saúde, parte da Prática de Integração Ensino-Serviço-Comunidade (PIESC), como proposta de reorientação do currículo na aquisição de habilidades de liderança e gerenciamento de recursos físicos e humanos em saúde. A proposta foi inserir os discentes em diferentes níveis de complexidade tecnológica do SUS a fim de contextualizar o estudo da Rede de Atenção à Saúde (RAS) por meio de vivências e pesquisa-ação em serviços de saúde situados nos diferentes níveis de atenção. Para isso, foram realizadas entrevistas semiestruturadas com profissionais e usuários em cada ambiente visitado. Tais vivências ampliaram a visão dos acadêmicos sobre os serviços de saúde, possibilitando um melhor entendimento da estruturação da RAS, bem como um dimensionamento dos entraves encontrados nos diferentes cenários e proporcionando uma experiência in loco das críticas e dificuldades apresentadas e vividas por usuários e profissionais. Percebeu-se que não há resolutividade dos problemas de saúde dos usuários nos serviços, bem como existe uma falta de entendimento destes acerca de seus direitos e da continuidade da atenção à saúde nos diferentes níveis de atenção. Explicitou-se que as instâncias primárias de atenção não funcionam como porta de entrada adequada, o que culmina com a desestruturação da RAS observada. A experiência relatada neste artigo demonstrou um modo dinâmico de abordar a temática da Gestão e Rede de Atenção à Saúde, além de contribuir para a formação do estudante de Medicina, já que possibilitou um melhor entendimento da rede quanto às práticas em saúde e às dimensões do processo saúde-doença implicados na gestão do SUS.

ABSTRACT Medical courses in Brazil have implemented subjects and modules that aim to bring students closer to actual national health concerns, as one way of adapting to the growing needs for medical training reorganization. Thus, this article reports on the experience of medical students at the Universidade Estadual de Santa Cruz (UESC) [State University of Santa Cruz] with activities and actions included in the Health Care Network and Management module, part of the Teaching-Service-Community Intergration Practice (PIESC), as a proposal for the reorientation of the curriculum and acquisition of leadership skills and management of physical and human resources in health. The proposal was to insert the students at different levels of technological complexity of the Unified Health System (SUS) in order to contextualize the study of the Health Care Network (RAS) through experiences and action research in health services located at different care levels. Semi-structured interviews with professionals and users were therefore performed in each visited environment. These experiences served to broaden the students’ vision of health care networks, enabling a better understanding of how the services are structured, as well as of the magnitude of the obstacles found in different scenarios, providing an in loco experience of the criticisms and difficulties faced by users and professionals. It was noticed that user health problems are often not resolved within the health care services, and the users lack understanding of their health rights. A lack of continuity of the health care was also observed through the various health care levels. Thus, it is concluded that the instances of primary care fail to offer adequate gateway services, culminating in the breakdown of the observed network. The experiment reported in this article demonstrated a dynamic way to approach the issue of Health Care Network Management, contributing to medical student training, as it enabled a better understanding of the network in terms of the health practices and the dimensions of the health-disease process involved in the management of the SUS.

RESUMO O câncer de mama pode ser considerado, atualmente, um problema de saúde pública devido a sua crescente incidência e índices de letalidade. Diante disso, o movimento Outubro Rosa visa chamar a atenção da população a respeito dessas neoplasia em mulheres de todo o mundo, de modo que suas ações têm por objetivo comum realizar o diagnóstico precoce no intuito de diminuir a mortalidade em decorrência dessa neoplasia. Dessa forma, o presente artigo objetiva relatar a experiência de acadêmicos do curso de Medicina da Universidade Estadual de Santa Cruz, no Módulo de Práticas de Integração Ensino, Serviço e Comunidade III (Piesc III), numa ação conjunta com a Equipe de Saúde da Família (ESF) de Iguape, em Ilhéus (BA), no contexto do movimento Outubro Rosa, objetivando também compartilhar considerações sobre a formação médica levantadas pelo grupo acerca da vivência descrita. No período, realizou-se abordagem inicial na sala de espera, anamnese dirigida e foi feito o exame físico das mamas das pacientes que compareceram à Unidade de Saúde da Família. A experiência não consistiu apenas em identificar pacientes com suspeita de câncer de mama e quantificar os dados, mas numa oportunidade de exercício da Educação e Comunicação em Saúde e de desenvolvimento da relação médico-paciente. Ainda permitiu aos acadêmicos reconhecer e entender melhor as dificuldades das usuárias em relação à prevenção e promoção da saúde das mamas, sendo que se observou que diversas mulheres não estavam familiarizadas com os temas abordados. O estudante de Medicina precisa compreender que o conhecimento teórico-prático se reconstrói em cada paciente com contexto histórico específico e com diferentes visões e interpretações dos conceitos de saúde e doença. Além disso, o profissional médico deve exercitar, desde a graduação, habilidades que extrapolam o ortodoxo trabalho médico, assumindo também uma postura de multiplicador de cidadania, um agente propagador de direitos e deveres.

ABSTRACT The breast cancer can now be considered a public health problem due to its increasing incidence and lethality rates. In view of this, the October Rosa mobilization aims at drawing the population’s attention regarding this neoplasm in women from all over the world, so that their common objective is to perform the early diagnosis in order to reduce mortality due to this neoplasm. Thus, the following article describes the experiences of undergraduate medical students at the Universidade Estadual de Santa Cruz (Uesc) regarding the practice module on Integrated Teaching with Community Health and Service, as part of a joint initiative with a Family Health Team in the outskirts of Ilhéus, Bahia, Brazil, within the context of the “Pink October” movement, also aiming to share thoughts on the medical degree raised by the group on the experience described. As part of the Pink October initiative, the students were given the opportunity to take a clinical approach in the waiting room, collecting information and performing physical examinations on patients who appear at the Family Health Unit. This experience was not only intended to identify patients with suspected cancer and measure the data collected, but was also designed to provide the students the opportunity to put their health education and communication skills into practice, developing the doctor-patient relationship. It also allows academics to better recognize and understand users’ difficulties in preventing and promoting breast health. In this context, it was observed that several women were not familiar with the recommended techniques for the breast self-exam (???). Medical students must understand that practical and theoretical knowledge is reconstructed with every single patient according to their specific historical context and varying viewpoints and interpretations of the concepts of health and disease. In addition, the medical professional must exercise, from the undergraduate, skills that extrapolate the orthodox medical work, also assuming a position of multiplier of citizenship, a propagating agent of rights and duties.

O objetivo do presente trabalho foi o de avaliar os efeitos da utilização de glyphosate e herbicidas imidazolinonas, em aplicações isoladas ou associadas, sobre o controle de arroz-vermelho (Oryza sativa) e produtividade de grãos de arroz Clearfield®. O experimento foi conduzido a campo na safra 2007/08, em Cachoeirinha, RS, Brasil, com delineamento em blocos ao acaso e tratamentos dispostos em arranjo fatorial (2x6), usando-se quatro repetições. O fator A constou de dois níveis do herbicida glyphosate, aplicados no subperíodo semeadura-emergência da cultura por ocasião do início da emissão do coleóptilo do arroz (ponto de agulha); o fator B constou de seis tratamentos com imazethapyr+imazapic, aplicados em associação ao glyphosate ou quando a cultura atingiu o estádio de três folhas expandidas. As três variáveis explicativas analisadas foram a população de plantas de arroz e arroz-vermelho, a eficácia do controle de arroz-vermelho e a produtividade de grãos da cultura. O uso de glyphosate no ponto de agulha reduziu em 75% a população do arroz-vermelho e aumentou em 40% a produtividade de grãos de arroz, em relação à testemunha. O uso isolado de herbicidas imidazolinonas e sua associação com o dessecante proporcionou controle eficaz do arroz-vermelho e incrementou a produtividade de grãos, em comparação à situação sem controle da infestante, independente da dose e do sistema de aplicação.

The objective of this research was to evaluate the effects of the utilization of glyphosate and imidazolinones herbicides, in isolated or associated applications, on the effectiveness of red rice (Oryza sativa) control and grain yield of Clearfield-rice. The experiment was conducted under field conditions in 2007/08, in Cachoeirinha, RS, Brazil, using a randomized block design in a two-factorial design 2x6, with four replicates. The factor A was composed by two levels of glyphosate, applied during the subperiod between sowing and crop emergence at the early coleoptile stage of the rice plants; and the factor B consisted of six treatments with imazethapyr+imazapic, applied in association with glyphosate or when the rice crop plants had three expanded leaves. The crop and weed populations, red rice control and grain yield of crop were evaluated. The results show that the glyphosate application at the early coleoptile stage of the crop reduced 75% the red rice population and increased 40% the grain yield, in relation to the situation without weed control. The use of imidazolinones and their association with glyphosate provided effective control of red rice and increased the grain yield, independent of rates and application system.

O trabalho discute o posicionamento de técnicos de nível superior do Instituto Chico Mendes de Conservação da Biodiversidade ICMBIO , em exercício na Amazônia Brasileira, em relação ao ambientalismo e identifica possíveis relações entre os posicionamentos e visões do conhecimento, concepção de Reserva Extrativista RESEX e de extrativismo. Consoante a base teórica discutida, foram adotadas as seguintes tipologias para as categorias estudadas: correntes ou vertentes ambientalistas: preservacionista, Sustentabilista e Socioambientalista; visões do conhecimento: anarquista, dialógica ou saber ambiental ; interdisciplinar; e, científica pura; visões de RESEX: RESEX como Unidade de Conservação UC de uso sustentável, RESEX servindo à reforma agrária e RESEX oportunista; visões sobre extrativismo: extrativismo legítimo, extrativismo falido e extrativismo oportunista. O método utilizado foi o comparativo com partições cruzadas, verificando similaridades e dissimilaridades de grupos de respondentes. Para levantamento dos posicionamentos dos respondentes foi disponibilizado a todos os técnicos um questionário com afirmações representativas das diferentes visões, utilizando escala do tipo Likert. Foi realizada a classificação dos técnicos em categorias, utilizando análise de agrupamento pelo método hierárquico aglomerativo, tendo como parâmetro a proximidade de posicionamento. Constatou-se que não há visão única a respeito do ambientalismo no Instituto Chico Mendes na Amazônia Legal e não existem linhas ambientalistas puras, mas compostas por concepções de várias vertentes. As visões sobre RESEXs e extrativismo estão relacionadas com concepções sociaombientalistas, reforçando a defesa de que este tipo de Unidade de Conservação faz parte dessa linha de pensamento.

The paper discusses the positioning of high level technicians the "Instituto Chico Mendes de Conservação da Biodiversidade (ICMBIO)", acting in the Brazilian Amazon, in relation to environmentalism and identifies possible relationships between the positioning and views on knowledge, conception of Extractive Reserve (RESEX) and extractivism. According to the theoretical discussion, we make the following types for the studied categories: environmentalist slope: preservationist, sustainabilist and socio-environmentalist; views of knowledge: anarchist, dialogic (or environmental knowledge), interdisciplinary and pure science; views of RESEX: RESEX as Conservation Unit (UC) for sustainable use, RESEX serving the agrarian reform and opportunist RESEX; views on extractivism: legitimate extractivism, legitimate extractivism and opportunistic extractivism. The method used was a comparative cross-partition, checking similarities and dissimilarities of respondents groups. To survey the positions of the respondents was made a questionnaire available to all staff with statements representing different views, using Likert scale. It was done a classification into categories of technicians, using cluster analysis by the agglomerative hierarchical method, having as parameter the proximity of placement. It was found that no single view about environmentalism in the Chico Mendes in the Legal Amazon and there are not pure environmentalist lines, but composed of several strands of ideas. The views on RESEXs and extractivism are related concepts socio- environmentalism, reinforcing the argument that this type of conservation is a part this line of thought.

O trabalho discute a configuração do ambientalismo e sua distribuição no quadro técnico do Instituto Chico Mendes de Conservação da Biodiversidade (ICMBIO) na Amazônia Legal. Com base na revisão teórica, o ambientalismo foi classificado nas vertentes: preservacionista, sustentabilista e socioambientalista. Foi identificada a vertente predominante e analisadas as relações existentes entre as vertentes e diretorias/ coordenações de lotação e formação acadêmica dos técnicos. A pesquisa teve um delineamento do tipo levantamento com corte transversal. Foi utilizado questionário com afirmações construídas a partir de indicadores representativos das correntes ambientalistas, adotando escala do tipo Likert. O questionário foi disponibilizado a todos os técnicos com formação superior e em exercício na Amazônia Legal. Realizou-se análise de frequências das respostas e partições cruzadas com diretoria e coordenação de procedência e formação acadêmica dos técnicos. Os resultados indicam a presença de um ambientalismo misto no ICMBIO da Amazônia Legal, composto por contribuições das várias concepções e predominância do preservacionismo. Foram constatadas diferenças de visões quando os técnicos são agrupados por diretoria, coordenação e formação acadêmica.

This works discusses the notions of environmentalism found among the staff at the Chico Mendes Conservation of Biodiversity institute (ICMBIO) in the Amazonia legal project. Based on the literature, environmentalism is classified according to three types: preservationist, sustainabilist and socio-environmentalist. The predominating type and the existing relationships among the different types through the coordinators/directors and their academic backgrounds were analyzed. This is a cross-sectional study using a Likert style questionnaire with statements pertaining to the types which was applied to all the graduate staff working in the Amazonia Legal project. The responses were crossreferenced with the academic background, level and origin of the staff. The results indicate that there is a mixed prevailing notion of environmentalism among the staff although preservationism predominates. Differences were also noted when technicians are grouped in departments, groups and academic background
