Abstract This study adapted the Conflict Resolution Styles Inventory (CRSI) for the Brazilian context and assessed its psychometric adequacy. In Study 1, the Brazilian version was developed and content validity was analyzed by experts (N = 4) with semantic adequacy assessed in a pilot study with adolescents (N = 15). In Study 2, psychometric properties were examined in a sample of adolescents (N = 276), providing evidence of internal validity and reliability. Study 3 further investigated evidence of internal validity and reliability in a new sample (N = 224). Results indicated that the CRSI exhibits content validity, internal validity, and reliability, making it suitable for assessing conflict resolution strategies employed by Brazilian adolescents in disagreements with their parents, enabling its use in related research.

Resumen Este estudio tuvo como objetivo adaptar el Conflict Resolution Styles Inventory (CRSI) al contexto brasileño y verificar si presenta evidencias de adecuación psicométrica. En el Estudio 1, se desarrolló la versión brasileña y, posteriormente, se analizaron las evidencias de validez de contenido a través del análisis de jueces (N = 4 evaluadores expertos) y de adecuación semántica en un estudio piloto con adolescentes (N = 15). En el Estudio 2, verificamos las propiedades psicométricas del CRSI en una muestra de adolescentes (N = 276), recogiendo evidencias de validez interna y precisión. Finalmente, en el Estudio 3, se investigó evidencias adicionales de la validez interna y precisión del CRSI en una nueva muestra (N = 224). Los resultados mostraron que el CRSI reúne evidencias de validez de contenido, validez interna y precisión, y puede ser utilizado para evaluar las estrategias de resolución de conflictos utilizadas por adolescentes brasileños en desacuerdos con sus padres, lo que permite su uso en investigaciones sobre este tema.

Resumo Este estudo teve o objetivo de adaptar o Conflict Resolution Styles Inventory (CRSI) para o contexto brasileiro e investigar se este apresenta evidências de adequabilidade psicométrica. No Estudo 1 foi desenvolvida a versão brasileira e, posteriormente, foram analisadas evidências de validade de conteúdo por meio da análise de juízes (N = 4 avaliadores especialistas) e adequação semântica em um estudo piloto com adolescentes (N = 15). No Estudo 2, verificamos as propriedades psicométricas do CRSI em uma amostra de adolescentes (N = 276), reunindo evidências de validade de estrutura interna e precisão. Finalmente, no Estudo 3, foram investigadas evidências adicionais de estrutura interna e precisão do CRSI em uma nova amostra (N = 224). Os resultados demonstraram que o CRSI reúne evidências de validade com base no conteúdo, na estrutura interna e de precisão, podendo ser usado para avaliar as estratégias de resolução de conflitos que adolescentes brasileiros utilizam nas discordâncias com seus pais, possibilitando seu uso em pesquisas sobre esse tema.

Resumen Introducción: Las personas físicamente activas parecen tener mejores indicadores de salud mental y estrés en comparación con personas con actividad física insuficiente. Sin embargo, el análisis de la práctica de actividad física y los indicadores de salud mental de trabajadores del sector bancario no ha sido explorado durante la pandemia por COVID-19. Objetivo: Analizar los puntajes de depresión, ansiedad, estrés y actividad física en trabajadores del sector bancario durante la pandemia por COVID-19. Método: Se aplicó una estrategia comparativa asociativa con 21 trabajadores del sector bancario (24-44 años, 71.4 % mujeres) en una ciudad del Nordeste de Brasil. Se aplicó un cuestionario en línea explorando información sociodemográfica y antropométrica, indicadores de ansiedad, depresión y estrés (EADS-21), función laboral y nivel de actividad física. La correlación entre las puntuaciones del EADS-21 y el nivel de actividad física se obtuvo mediante el coeficiente Rho de Spearman. Además, la comparación de indicadores entre personas adultas insuficientemente activas y físicamente activas se realizó mediante la prueba U de Mann-Whitney. Resultados: El nivel de actividad física mostró una correlación débil y inversa con las puntuaciones de ansiedad (Rho= −0.15), depresión (Rho= −0.35) y estrés (Rho= −0.11). Además, se encontró que no hubo diferencia estadísticamente significativa entre personas trabajadoras insuficientemente activas en el sector bancario vs. físicamente activas, en relación con la ansiedad (P= 0.719), la depresión (P= 0.548) o el estrés (P= 0.842). Conclusión: Los indicadores de salud mental y estrés se asociaron inversamente con la práctica habitual de actividad física. Además, las puntuaciones de ansiedad, depresión y estrés fueron similares entre personas trabajadoras bancarias físicamente activas e insuficientemente activas.

Resumo Introdução: Indivíduos fisicamente ativos parecem apresentar melhores indicadores de saúde mental e estresse em comparação a seus congêneres com prática insuficiente de atividade física. Contudo, a análise da prática de atividade física e de indicadores de saúde mental de trabalhadores do setor bancário não tem sido explorada durante a pandemia da COVID-19. Objetivo: Analisar escores de depressão, ansiedade, estresse e da prática de atividade física em trabalhadores do setor bancário durante a pandemia da COVID-19. Método: Uma estratégia comparativa associativa foi empregada com 21 trabalhadores do setor bancário (24-44 anos, 71,4% mulheres) de uma cidade do Nordeste brasileiro. Um questionário on-line foi aplicado explorando informações sociodemográficas, antropométricas, indicadores de ansiedade, depressão e estresse (EADS-21), de função laboral e do nível de atividade física. Abstract Introduction: Physically active individuals seem to have better indicators of mental health and stress compared to their insufficient physical activity peers. However, the analysis of physical activity levels and mental health indicators of bank employees has not been explored during the COVID-19 pandemic. Objective: To analyze depression, anxiety, stress, and physical activity scores in bank employees during the COVID-19 pandemic. Method: An associative comparative strategy was applied with 21 bank employees (24-44 years, 71.4% women) in a city in Northeast Brazil. An online questionnaire was applied exploring sociodemographic and anthropometric information, indicators of anxiety, depression, and stress (EADS-21), occupational function, and physical activity levels. The correlation between the EADS-21 scores and the physical activity levels was obtained using Spearman's Rho coefficient and the comparison of indicators between insufficiently active and physically active workers was performed using the Mann-Whitney U test. Results: The physical activity levels showed a weak and inverse correlation with anxiety (Rho= −0.15), depression (Rho= −0.35), and stress (Rho= −0.11) scores. In addition, it was found that there was no statistically significant difference between insufficiently active vs. physically active bank employees concerning anxiety (P= 0.719), depression (P= 0.548), or stress (P= 0.842). Conclusion: Mental health and stress indicators were inversely associated with regular physical activity levels. In addition, scores of anxiety, depression, and stress were similar between physically active and insufficiently active bank employees.

Abstract This study aimed to evaluate the contribution of oral and maxillofacial pathology laboratories (OMPLs) in Brazilian public universities to the diagnosis of lip, oral cavity, and oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). A cross-sectional study was performed using biopsy records from a consortium of sixteen public OMPLs from all regions of Brazil (North, Northeast, Central-West, Southeast, and South). Clinical and demographic data of patients diagnosed with lip, oral cavity, and oropharyngeal SCC between 2010 and 2019 were collected from the patients’ histopathological records. Of the 120,010 oral and maxillofacial biopsies (2010-2019), 6.9% (8,321 cases) were diagnosed as lip (0.8%, 951 cases), oral cavity (4.9%, 5,971 cases), and oropharyngeal (1.2%, 1,399 cases) SCCs. Most cases were from Brazil’s Southeast (64.5%), where six of the OMPLs analyzed are located. The predominant profile of patients with lip and oral cavity SCC was Caucasian men, with a mean age over 60 years, low schooling level, and a previous history of heavy tobacco consumption. In the oropharyngeal group, the majority were non-Caucasian men, with a mean age under 60 years, had a low education level, and were former/current tobacco and alcohol users. According to data from the Brazilian National Cancer Institute, approximately 9.9% of the total lip, oral cavity, and oropharyngeal SCCs reported over the last decade in Brazil may have been diagnosed at the OMPLs included in the current study. Therefore, this data confirms the contribution of public OMPLs with respect to the important diagnostic support they provide to the oral healthcare services extended by the Brazilian Public Health System.

Nonsexual violence against children and adolescents: a study in a Latin American tertiary and university hospital

Objetivo: Avaliar violência interpessoal não sexual contra crianças e adolescentes em um hospital universitário terciário. Métodos: Foi realizado um estudo transversal com 240 pacientes em situação de violência não sexual por 15 anos. A análise incluiu: dados demográficos, local de referência do hospital, tipo e autor da violência, encaminhamento legal, exames laboratoriais e de imagem, e desfechos graves. Resultados: Situações de violência não sexual foram diagnosticadas em 240 de 295.993 (0,1%) pacientes durante os 15 anos do período: 148/240 (61,7%) em crianças e 92/240 (38,3%) em adolescentes. Os tipos de violências mais frequentes foram negligência em 156/240 (65,0%), violência física 62/240 (25,8%), agressão psicológica/emocional 52/240 (21,7%), síndrome de Münchausen por procuração 4/240 (1,7%) e bullying/cyberbullying em 3/240 (1,3%). As condições crônicas pediátricas mais frequentes foram: doença renal crônica 24/123 (19,5%), vírus da imunodeficiência humana 14/123 (11,4%), prematuridade 9/123 (7,3%), paralisia cerebral 8/123 (6,5%) e asma 8/123 (6,5%). Comparações entre crianças e adolescentes em situação de violência não sexual revelaram que houve diferença significativa entre os locais de referência do hospital. A frequência de pacientes sob violência encaminhados de ambulatórios foi significantemente reduzida em crianças versus adolescentes (27,7 vs. 62%), enquanto encaminhamentos de pronto-socorro foram mais numerosos no primeiro grupo (57,4 vs. 25%, p<0,001). Os tipos de violências e condições pediátricas crônicas foram semelhantes nos dois grupos(p>0,05). Conclusões: Violência não sexual na nossa população pediátrica foi raramente diagnosticada em um hospital terciário, principalmente negligência, agressão física e psicológica/emocional. Aproximadamente dois terços dos diagnósticos de violência ocorreram em crianças, preferencialmente encaminhadas pelo departamento de emergência. Em contrapartida, cerca de um terço dos diagnósticos de violência ocorreu em adolescentes, encaminhados principalmente pelos ambulatórios.

Out of 240, the most frequent types of violence were negligence in 156 (65.0%), physical 62 (25.8%), psychological/emotional aggression 52 (21.7%), Munchausen by proxy syndrome 4 (1.7%), and bullying/cyberbullying in 3 (1.3%). Out of 123, the most common pediatric chronic conditions were chronic kidney disease 24 (19.5%), human immunodeficiency virus 14 (11.4%), prematurity 9 (7.3%), cerebral palsy 8 (6.5%), and asthma 8 (6.5%). Further comparison between children versus adolescent under nonsexual violence situation revealed significant difference between the hospital referral sites. The frequency of patients under violence referred from outpatient clinics was significantly reduced in children versus adolescents (27.7 vs. 62%), whereas emergency department was higher in the former group (57.4 vs. 25.0%; p<0.001). All types of violence situations and pediatric chronic conditions were similar in both groups (p>0.05). Conclusions: Nonsexual violence against our pediatric population was rarely diagnosed in a tertiary hospital, mainly negligence, physical, and psychological/emotional aggression. Approximately two-thirds of violence diagnosis occurred in children, referred mainly by the emergency department. In contrast, approximately one-third of violence diagnosis occurred in adolescents, referred mostly by outpatient clinics.

ABSTRACT Worldwide, transplant programs have suffered a setback during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and most have temporarily suspended their transplant activities. . We identified 36 liver transplant patients who tested positive for COVID-19. The cases were confirmed by the nucleic acid test (RT-PCR). Epidemiological, demographic, clinical, laboratory, management and outcome data were obtained from the patients’ medical records. Fourteen patients (38.9%) required admission to the Intensive Care Unit and/or invasive ventilatory support (severe cases). The mean age of these severe cases was 63.8 years. Regarding the time since the transplant, 71.4% (10/14 patients) had undergone the procedure less than one year before. The immunosuppressive therapy was reduced in patients who required Intensive Care Unit. A total of 12 cases (12/14, 85.7%) required invasive ventilatory support. Eight cases (8/14, 57.1%) required renal replacement therapy. In this group of patients, nine died (64.3 %). In turn, 22 patients had mild to moderate symptoms of COVID-19, not requiring invasive ventilatory support or admission to the Intensive Care Unit. The mean age in these patients was 56.5 years and comorbidities were present in 15 (68.2%) of the cases. In this group, only five patients (5/22, 22.7%) required hospitalization due to complications and there were no deaths This report describes the results of COVID-19 infection in a very specific population, suggesting that liver transplant patients have a significant higher risk of progressing to severeCOVID-19 , with a mortality rate among critically-ill patients above that of the general population.

Resumen: A pesar del énfasis actual en los programas de intervención para funciones ejecutivas (FE), predominan los de niños y ancianos, con una brecha en los programas dirigidos a jóvenes/universitarias. El presente estudio presenta el proceso de desarrollo de un programa de intervención en FE a favor del aprendizaje académico para jóvenes/universitarios. El desarrollo siguió 5 etapas: 1) organización interna, 2) construcción, 3) análisis de expertos, 4) revisión y cierre, 5) estudio piloto. Participaron 8 expertos (etapa 3) y 3 clases (n = 102) matriculados en Educación Superior (etapa 5). Hubo un alto acuerdo entre los jueces con respecto a las demandas y la calidad general de las actividades. La revisión e integración de las evaluaciones cuantitativas y cualitativas de los expertos dieron lugar a la versión actual de πFex-Academics, con siete actividades estructuradas en tres módulos, centradas en el aprendizaje y las demandas académicas. El estudio piloto reveló una buena aplicabilidad. πFex-Academics es una herramienta prometedora para estimular la FE en contexto universitario.

Abstract: Despite the current emphasis on intervention programs for executive functions (EF), those for children and older adult predominate, with a gap in programs aimed at young people/undergraduate students. The present study presents the process of developing an EF intervention program to support academic learning for young people/undergraduate students. The development followed 5 stages: 1) Internal organization, 2) Construction, 3) Judges’ Analysis, 4) Review and finalization, 5) Pilot Study. Participants were 8 judges (step 3) and 3 classes of students (n = 102) enrolled in Higher Education (step 5). There was high agreement among the judges regarding the demands and the general quality of the activities. Review and integration of the judges’ quantitative and qualitative assessments gave rise to the current version of the πFex-Academics, with 7 activities structured in 3 modules, with a focus on learning and academic demands. The pilot study revealed good applicability. The πFex-Academics is a promising tool for stimulating EF in a university context.

Resumo: Apesar de atual destaque para programas de intervenção das funções executivas (FE), predominam aqueles para crianças e idosos, com uma lacuna de programas destinados ao público jovem/universitário. O presente estudo apresenta o processo de desenvolvimento de um programa de intervenção em FE em prol da aprendizagem acadêmica para jovens/universitários. O desenvolvimento seguiu 5 etapas: 1) Interna de organização, 2) Construção, 3) Análise de Juízes, 4) Revisão e fechamento, 5) Estudo Piloto. Participaram 8 juízes (etapa 3) e 3 turmas (n = 102) ingressantes no Ensino Superior (etapa 5). Houve elevada concordância entre juízes em relação às demandas e qualidade geral das atividades. Revisão e integração das avaliações quanti e qualitativas dos juízes originou a versão atual do πFex-Academics, com sete atividades estruturadas em três módulos, com foco na aprendizagem e demandas acadêmicas. Estudo piloto revelou boa aplicabilidade. O πFex-Academics constitui-se como ferramenta promissora para estimulação de FE em contexto universitário.

Resumo Fundamento: Interrupções no tempo despendido em comportamento sedentário (breaks) têm sido associadas a melhores níveis de indicadores cardiometabólicos na população adulta. No entanto, em adolescentes, os achados sobre essa associação ainda são conflitantes. Objetivos: Analisar a associação do número de breaks por dia em comportamento sedentário com marcadores cardiometabólicos e avaliar se ela é moderada pelo estado nutricional e o tempo excessivo em comportamento sedentário em adolescentes. Métodos: Estudo transversal com 537 adolescentes (52,3% do sexo feminino), de 10 a 14 anos de idade, de escolas públicas de João Pessoa (PB). O número diário de breaks em comportamento sedentário (>100 counts/minutos) foi mensurado por meio de acelerômetros (Actigraph GT3X+). Os marcadores cardiometabólicos analisados foram: pressão arterial sistólica e diastólica (mmHg), glicose de jejum, colesterol total, triglicerídeos, HDL-c, LDL-c (todos em mg/dL) e índice de massa corporal (IMC) (kg/m2). Utilizou-se a regressão linear para analisar a associação do número de breaks com marcadores cardiometabólicos e avaliar se ela é moderada pelo estado nutricional e o tempo excessivo em comportamento sedentário. O nível de significância de p<0,05 foi adotado para todas as análises. Resultados: O número de breaks por dia se associou negativamente ao IMC (ß = −0,069; IC95%: −0,102; −0,035), mas não aos demais marcadores cardiometabólicos, e essa associação não foi moderada pelo estado nutricional dos adolescentes (p=0,221) e nem pelo tempo excessivo em comportamento sedentário (p=0,176). Conclusão: A inclusão de breaks no tempo em comportamento sedentário parece contribuir para valores mais baixos do IMC em adolescentes.

Abstract Background: The interruption of the time spent in sedentary behavior (breaks) has been associated with better levels of cardiometabolic indicators in the adult population, but in adolescents, further investigations are still needed to confirm these findings. Objectives: To analyze the association of the number of breaks per day in sedentary behaviors with cardiometabolic markers and whether it was moderated by nutritional status and excessive time on sedentary behavior in adolescents. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study of 537 adolescents (52.3% girls), aged between 10 and 14 years, enrolled in public schools in the city of João Pessoa, Paraíba state, Brazil. The number of daily breaks (>100 counts/minutes) in sedentary time was measured by Actigraph GT3X+ accelerometers. The following cardiometabolic markers were analyzed: systolic and diastolic blood pressure (mmHg), fasting blood glucose levels, total cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL-c, LDL-c (all in mg/dL) and body mass index (BMI) (kg/m2). Linear regression was used to analyze the association between the number of breaks and cardiometabolic markers and whether this association was moderated by nutritional status and excessive time in sedentary behavior. The significance level of p<0.05 was adopted for all analyses. Results: The number of daily breaks was negatively associated with BMI (boys – ß = −0.083; 95%CI: −0.132; −0.034 and girls – ß = −0.115; 95%CI: −0.169; −0.061), but not with the remaining cardiometabolic markers. The number of breaks per day was negatively associated with BMI (ß = −0.069; 95% CI: −0.102; −0.035), but not with the other cardiometabolic markers and this association was not moderated by the adolescents' nutritional status (p=0.221), or by excessive time in sedentary behavior (p=0.176). Conclusions: Including breaks in sedentary time seems to contribute to lower BMI values in adolescents.

Resumo Objetivo identificar e analisar as ações de cuidado às crianças nascidas prematuras, após a alta hospitalar, realizadas pelos familiares e profissionais de saúde. Método revisão de escopo, desenvolvida em dezembro de 2019, segundo as orientações do Joanna Briggs Institute e do guia internacional PRISMAScR. Foram investigados estudos originais, publicados em inglês, espanhol ou português, de 2013 a 2019, nas bases CINAHAL, Medline, LILACS, Cochrane, Scopus, Web of Science. Os 21 artigos incluídos foram submetidos à análise direcionada de conteúdo apoiada pelo referencial das necessidades essenciais das crianças. Resultados predominaram ações para proteção física e segurança (20 artigos), comunidades estáveis e amparadoras (dez artigos), seguidas de relacionamentos sustentadores contínuos (seis artigos), experiências que respeitem as diferenças individuais (quatro artigos) e experiências adequadas ao desenvolvimento (dois artigos). Ações para o estabelecimento de limites, organização e expectativas não foram identificadas nos estudos. Conclusões e implicações para a prática as ações de cuidado contemplam, principalmente, a dimensão física. Ao considerar o cuidado integral e os achados desta revisão são necessários avanços nas ações para o atendimento de outras dimensões da vida dos prematuros como a emocional e a social.

Abstract Objective to identify and analyze the actions taken by family and health professionals to care for children born prematurely after hospital discharge. Method a scoping review, developed in December 2019, according to the Joanna Briggs Institute guidelines and the international PRISMAScR guide. Original studies, published in English, Spanish or Portuguese from 2013 to 2019 in CINAHAL, Medline, LILACS, Cochrane, Scopus, Web of Science databases were investigated. The 21 included articles were submitted to directed content analysis supported by the framework of essential needs of children. Results actions for physical protection and safety (20 articles), stable and supportive communities (10 articles) n followed by ongoing supportive relationships (6 articles), experiences that respect individual differences (4 articles), and developmentally appropriate experiences (2 articles) predominated. Actions for boundary setting, organization, and expectations were not identified in the studies. Conclusions and implications for practice the care actions contemplate the physical dimension. Considering comprehensive care and the findings of this review, advances in actions are needed to adress other dimensions of preterm infant’s life, such as emotional and social.

Resumen Objetivo identificar y analizar las acciones de cuidado niño prematuro realizadas por familiares y profesionales de la salud después del alta hospitalaria. Método revisión de alcance, desarrollada en diciembre de 2019, según las directrices del Instituto Joanna Briggs y laguía internacional PRISMAScR. Se investigaron los estudios originales publicados en inglés, español o portugués de 2013 a 2019 en CINAHAL, Medline, LILACS, Cochrane, Scopus, Web of Science. Los 21 artículos incluidos se sometieron a un análisis de contenido específico apoyado por las necesidades esenciales de los niños. Resultados prevalecieron las acciones para la protección física y la seguridad (20 artículos) y las comunidades estables y solidarias (10 artículos), seguidas de relaciones de apoyo continuas (6 artículos), experiencias que respetan las diferencias individuales (4 artículos) y experiencias apropiadas para el desarrollo (2 artículos). En los estudios no se identificaron acciones para establecer límites, organización y expectativas. Conclusiones e implicaciones para lapráctica las acciones de cuidado incluyen, principalmente, ladimensión física. Al considerar la atención integral e los allazgos, es necesario avanzar para involucrar otras dimensiones de la vida del prematuro como la emocional y la social.

ABSTRACT A dog with 32 specimens of Rhipicephalus sanguineus sensu lato were examined at the DNA level to determine the presence of Borrelia spp., Anaplasma platys, Ehrlichia spp., and Babesia spp. A partial sequence of A. platys gene gltA (689 bp) was detected in the dog’s blood and three ticks (9.37 %). This is the first detection of A. platys in a young dog with symptoms and an animal’s R. sanguineus s.l. ticks in the city of Salta in northwest Argentina.

RESUMEN Se examinó un perro con 32 especímenes de Rhipicephalus sanguineus sensu lato a nivel de ADN, para determinar la presencia de Borrelia spp., Anaplasma platys, Ehrlichia spp. y Babesia spp. Se detectó una secuencia parcial del gen gltA (689 pb) de A. platys en la sangre del perro y en tres garrapatas (9,37 %). Esta es la primera detección de A. platys en animales jóvenes y enfermos y en R. sanguineus s.l y garrapatas en la ciudad de Salta, en el noroeste de Argentina.

Resumo O estudo se propôs a compreender as contribuições da atividade musical diante da capacidade de pacientes oncológicos e familiares no enfrentamento da doença, bem como investigar qual o impacto dessa ação nos aspectos biopsicossociais frente ao processo saúde-doença. Trata-se de uma pesquisa descritiva e exploratória, de cunho qualitativo, sendo considerados participantes os pacientes oncológicos em tratamento em uma clínica no Sul do país e seus familiares. A coleta de dados se deu por meio de entrevista semiestruturada. A leitura dos dados foi feita por meio de análise de conteúdo com posterior categorização dos temas emergentes. Percebeu-se que a comunicação estabelecida no grupo por meio das canções representou uma possibilidade de elaboração de conteúdos referentes ao tratamento. Observou-se melhora da expressão de sentimentos, ampliação da sensação de apoio, melhora do humor e minimização da percepção dos sintomas atrelados ao tratamento por meio do relaxamento, além do enfoque em memórias saudáveis para além da experiência da doença.

Abstract This study analyzed the contributions of musical activity in the disease coping capacity of oncology patients and family members, as well as its impact in the biopsychosocial aspects in facing the health-disease process. It is a descriptive, exploratory, qualitative research, with oncology patients being treated in an outpatient clinic in the South region of Brazil, and their family members. A semi-structured interview was used for data collection. Content analysis was conducted by analyzing the data, followed by categorization of the emerging topics. It was noted that the communication established in the group by the songs allowed to work with content related to the treatment. Better expression of feelings, broadening of the feeling of being supported, improved mood, as well as minimization of the perception of symptoms connected to treatment through relaxation were observed, in addition to focusing in healthy remembrances beyond the experience of the disease.

Resumen El proyecto se propone comprender los posibles aportes de la actividad musical a la capacidad que tienen los pacientes oncológicos y sus familiares de enfrentar la enfermedad, así como investigar el impacto de dicha acción sobre los aspectos biopsicosociales del proceso salud-enfermedad. Se trata de una investigación descriptiva y exploratoria, de tipo cualitativo; los participantes son los pacientes oncológicos en tratamiento en una clínica en el Sur del Brasil y sus familiares. Se recopilaron los datos mediante entrevistas semiestructuradas. Se analizaron los datos con base en el análisis de contenido y, a continuación, se categorizó los temas emergentes. Se constató que la comunicación establecida en el grupo por medio de las canciones fue una posibilidad de elaboración de contenidos relativos al tratamiento. Se observó una mejora en la expresión de sentimientos, acentuación de la sensación de apoyo, mejora del humor y minimización de la percepción de los síntomas vinculados al tratamiento debido a la relajación, además de que los pacientes se centraron en recuerdos saludables más allá de la experiencia de la enfermedad.

OBJECTIVE: With the increasing prevalence of steatosis, the number of steatotic liver grafts from deceased donors is also increasing. Thus, determining the prevalence and the population risk factors of steatosis may assist in risk stratification. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence and predictors of steatosis and steatohepatitis among livers from adults who died due to non-burn trauma. METHODS: Specimens were collected from 224 adults undergoing autopsy at a regional autopsy referral center from September 2011 to April 2013. Histopathological examination was performed on six samples obtained from different lobes of each liver. The outcomes of interest were the presence of steatosis, steatohepatitis, NASH inflammation and NASH fibrosis. The main predictors were body mass index, abdominal circumference, liver weight and volume, presence of cholelithiasis, and siderosis. Our modeling strategy made use of a series of generalized linear models with a binomial family. RESULTS: Our sample had a mean age of 40 years; steatosis was diagnosed in 48.2% of cases, and steatohepatitis was diagnosed in 2.7%. The presence of a high proportion of fatty changes was more prevalent among males and older individuals, with the most affected age group being 41-60 years. When evaluating the crude odds ratio for steatosis, the factors significantly associated with an increased risk of steatosis were greater abdominal circumference, BMI, and liver weight and the presence of siderosis. CONCLUSION: Our study reinforces the role of older age, obesity and hepatomegaly as predictors of fatty liver disease. These variables should be considered in the assessment of fatty changes in the livers of potential liver donors.

RESUMO Objetivo Avaliar a incidência de otorreia no período pós-operatório em pacientes submetidos à timpanotomia para colocação de tubo de ventilação e que não realizaram proteção auricular quando expostos à água. Métodos Ensaio clínico controlado, aberto e randomizado. Foram incluídos 80 pacientes submetidos à timpanotomia para colocação de tubo de ventilação unilateral ou bilateral, divididos em dois grupos: Grupo Proteção e Grupo Não Proteção auricular da água durante o banho e as atividades aquáticas. Resultados No primeiro mês pós-operatório, o Grupo Não Proteção apresentou aumento significativo tanto no número de pacientes com otorreia quanto na incidência. Quatro pacientes do Grupo Proteção (11%) apresentaram ao menos um episódio de otorreia neste período, representando incidência de 0,11 (desvio padrão ±0,32) episódio/mês, enquanto no Grupo Não Proteção ocorreram 12 episódios (33%; p=0,045) e incidência de 0,33 (±0,48; p=0,02). Entre o 2º e o 13º meses pós-operatórios, não houve diferença entre os grupos. Sete pacientes do Grupo Proteção (20%) apresentaram ao menos um episódio de otorreia, representando incidência de 0,04 (±0,09) episódios/mês, enquanto no Grupo Não Proteção foram registrados sete episódios (22%; p=0,8) e incidência de 0,05 (±0,1; p=0,8). Conclusão Pacientes que realizaram a proteção auricular quando expostos à água apresentaram menor incidência de otorreia no primeiro mês pós-operatório do que aqueles que não a realizaram. A partir do segundo mês, não houve diferença entre os grupos.

ABSTRACT Objective To analyze the incidence of otorrhea in the postoperative period of patients submitted to tympanotomy to place ventilation tube, and who did not protect the ear when exposed to water. Methods Open, randomized-controlled trial. Eighty patients submitted to unilateral or bilateral ear grommet tympanostomy were included and divided into two groups: Auricular Protection and Non-Protection to water during bathing and activities in water. Results In the first postoperative month, the Non-Protection Group presented a significant increase in the number of patients with otorrhea and in the incidence. Four patients of the Protection Group (11%) presented at least one episode of otorrhea in this period, representing an incidence of 0.11 (standard deviation ±0.32) episode/month, whereas in the Non-Protection Group there were 12 episodes (33%; p=0.045) and incidence of 0.33 (±0.48; p=0.02). Between the 2nd and the 13th postoperative months, there was no difference between groups. Seven patients in the Protection Group (20%) had at least one episode of otorrhea, representing an incidence of 0.04 (±0.09) episodes/month, while in the Non-Protection Group there were seven episodes (22%; p=0.8) and incidence of 0.05 (±0.1; p=0.8). Conclusion Patients who underwent ear protection when exposed to water had a lower incidence of otorrhea in the first postoperative month than those who did not undergo protection. From the second month, there was no difference between groups.

The 2009 pandemic influenza A virus outbreak led to the systematic use of the neuraminidase (NA) inhibitor oseltamivir (OST). Consequently, OST-resistant strains, carrying the mutation H275Y, emerged in the years after the pandemics, with a prevalence of 1-2%. Currently, OST-resistant strains have been found in community settings, in untreated individuals. To spread in community settings, H275Y mutants must contain additional mutations, collectively called permissive mutations. We display the permissive mutations in NA of OST-resistant A(H1N1)pdm09 virus found in Brazilian community settings. The NAs from 2013 are phylogenetically distinct from those of 2012, indicating a tendency of positive selection of NAs with better fitness. Some previously predicted permissive mutations, such as V241I and N369K, found in different countries, were also detected in Brazil. Importantly, the change D344N, also predicted to compensate loss of fitness imposed by H275Y mutation, was found in Brazil, but not in other countries in 2013. Our results reinforce the notion that OST-resistant A(H1N1)pdm09 strains with compensatory mutations may arise in an independent fashion, with samples being identified in different states of Brazil and in different countries. Systematic circulation of these viral strains may jeopardise the use of the first line of anti-influenza drugs in the future.

O câncer anal é relativamente raro, entretanto, sua incidência aumentou nos últimos anos. Vários fatores de risco são associados ao desenvolvimento do câncer anal, incluindo idade maior que 50 anos, dieta pobre em fibras, fístulas anais crônicas, tabagismo, múltiplos parceiros, prática de intercurso anal, infecção pelo HIV e imunossupressão. Entretanto, a presença do Papilomavírus Humano (HPV) representa o principal fator de risco para o desenvolvimento do câncer anal. O objetivo deste estudo consistiu em avaliar os aspectos clínico-patológicos de uma série de pacientes com carcinomas anais diagnosticados no Hospital Araújo Jorge, Goiânia/GO, bem como a prevalência do genoma do HPV nesses tumores. Dados clínico-patológicos e sóciodemográficos foram colhidos a partir dos respectivos prontuários e blocos de parafina contendo espécimes de carcinomas anais foram usados para extração de DNA e detecção de HPV, por meio da reação em cadeia da polimerase, usando oligonucleotídeos iniciadores SPF. Quarenta e três casos foram selecionados e tiveram os dados clinico-patológicos analisados, enquanto 38 casos foram testados para a detecção do genoma do HPV. Dentre os pacientes avaliados, 62,8% eram mulheres; 53,4% dos tumores eram carcinomas de células escamosas e 46,5% dos pacientes estavam na faixa etária entre os 60 e 75 anos. Fatores de risco, como tabagismo (39,5%) e etilismo (20,9%) foram registrados no grupo estudado. Metástases linfonodais foram detectadas em 30,2% dos casos e 7,0% apresentaram metástase à distância. A detecção de HPV foi positiva em 76,0% dos casos analisados e este significativamente associado aos carcinomas de células escamosas. O comportamento agressivo e o estágio avançado dos carcinomas anais descritos no presente estudo destacam a necessidade de medidas de prevenção que contemplem esses tumores, incluindo a vacinação contra o HPV.

Anal cancer is relatively rare; however, its incidence has increased in recent years. Several risk factors are associated with the development of anal cancer, including age older than 50 years, low-fiber diet, chronic anal fistulas, smoking, multiple partners, anal intercourse practice, Human Immunodeficiency Virus infection and immunosuppression. However, the presence of human papillomavirus represents the main risk factor for the development of anal cancer. The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinicopathological aspects of a series of patients with anal carcinomas diagnosed in Hospital Araújo Jorge, Goiânia-Goiás, as well as the prevalence of human papillomavirus genome in these tumors. Clinical, pathological and socio-demographic data were collected from the respective medical files and paraffin blocks containing anal carcinomas specimens were used for DNA extraction and detection of human papillomavirus, by means of polymerase chain reaction, using short PCR fragment primers. Forty-three cases were selected and had the data analyzed, while 38 cases were tested for human papillomavirus genome detection. Among the evaluated patients, 62.8% were women; 53.4% of tumors were squamous cell carcinoma and 46.5% of the patients were aged between 60 and 75 years. Risk factors, such as smoking (39.5%) and alcoholism (20.9%) were recorded in the studied group. Lymph node metastases were detected in 30.2% of cases and 7.0% had distant metastasis. The detection of human papillomavirus DNA was positive in 76% of cases assessed and this was significantly associated with squamous cell carcinomas. Aggressive behavior and advanced stage of anal cancer described in this study highlight the need for preventive measures that contemplate these tumors, including vaccination against human papillomavirus.

Os autores relatam o caso de uma paciente que desenvolveu edema cistóide de mácula pós-cirurgia para correção de miopia pelo método LASIK. Foi submetida a tratamento com injeções intravítrea de ranibizumabe e apresentou resultado visual satisfatório.

The authors report the case of a patient who developed cystoid macular edema after surgery for myopia by LASIK method. She was treated with intravitreal injections of ranibizumab and presented satisfactory visual result.
