Since more than one-third of dam failures have been attributed to uncontrolled seepage, it is of great mportance to investigate the behaviour of this phenomenon in order to achieve the maximum degree of safety for such dams. The present work investigated the influence of the permeability coefficient of the different materials used in zoned earth dams on different seepage parameters. For the modelling and analysis processes, the Seep/w and Seep2D software were employed. The numerical results prove that the optimum relative hydraulic conductivity between the inner and transition shells is about 0.001, and it is Detter to use filling materials with less hydraulic conductivity in the upstream transition and outer shells than η the downstream ones. A good agreement was noted between the obtained results from Seep/wand those Tom Seep2D. Reducing the hydraulic conductivity of both the upstream and the downstream shells, or of the downstream shells only, causes the pore water pressure in the dam body to increase significantly, and causes a remarkable reduction in the seeped water quantity and velocity. A moderate reduction in the different seepage parameters is achieved by reducing the hydraulic conductivity of the upstream transition shell, and a small reduction is noticed by reducing the hydraulic conductivity of the upstream outer shell.

Resumo O presente estudo descreve a presença de Bacillus cereus em alimentos contaminados de origem animal e prontos para consumo humano, com destaque para seus fatores de contribuição de virulência por meio da detecção de seus genes de virulência, além da identificação de seu sequenciamento. Trezentas e sessenta amostras de alimentos categorizados como produtos cárneos (228) e produtos lácteos (132) foram examinadas para isolamento de B. cereus, e todos esses isolados foram confirmados por testes bioquímicos. Dezoito cepas obtidas de diferentes amostras de alimentos foram examinadas para a presença de uma série de genes de virulência (genes nheA, cytK, entFM, bceT e hblC) usando o método de PCR uniplex. Além disso, as cepas de B. cereus foram avaliadas para o sequenciamento dos genes descritos. De forma geral, 24,44% (88/360) das amostras de alimentos classificados como produtos cárneos (11,11%; 40/360) e produtos lácteos (13,33%; 48/360) transportavam B. cereus, de acordo com as propriedades culturais e bioquímicas, com média geométrica de 1,5 × 10 7 ± 0,15 CFU/g ou mL. Os resultados revelaram que todos os nossos isolados tinham um ou mais genes de virulência (enterotoxina). Em nossa pesquisa, os genes mais predominantes foram nheA (100%), seguidos de cytK (61,11%), entFM (33,33%), bceT (11,11%) e hblC (5,56%). O método molecular detectou que, no geral, 5 cepas (27,78%) apresentavam apenas 1 gene (nheA) e 7 cepas (38,88%) continham 2 genes que foram classificados como 5 cepas (27,78%) (nheA e cytK), 2 cepas (11,11%) possuíam (nheA e entFM). Além disso, 5 cepas (27,78%) continham 3 genes classificados como 3 cepas (16,67%) hospedados (nheA, cytK e entFM), 1 cepa (5,56%) tinha (nheA, cytK e hblC) e 1 cepa (5,56%) teve (nheA, cytK e bceT). Apenas 1 cepa (5,56%) carregava 4 genes de virulência testados (nheA, cytK, entFM e bceT). As sequências de nucleotídeos (genes bceT, cytK, entFM, hblC e nheA) de cepas de B. cereus foram depositadas no GenBank sob o número de acesso (MW911824, MW911825, MW911826, MW911827 e MW911828), respectivamente. Nosso estudo foi estabelecido para indicar a virulência de B. cereus em carnes e produtos lácteos prontos para consumo humano como resultado de ações higiênicas deficientes. Portanto, deve ser estabelecido um plano com boas medidas de higiene para evitar sérios problemas de saúde humana por causa da ingestão de tais produtos.

Abstract The current study describes the presence of Bacillus cereus (B. cereus) in contaminated foods of animal source and ready for human consumption with highlighting on their virulence contributing factors by detection of its virulence genes in addition to identification of their sequencing. Three hundred sixty food samples categorized as (228) meat products and (132) milk products were examined for B. cereus isolation and all of these isolates were confirmed by biochemical tests. Eighteen strains obtained from different food samples were examined for the attendance of a number of virulence genes (nheA, cytK, entFM, bceT and hblC genes) using uniplex PCR method. Furthermore, the B. cereus strains were valued for the sequencing of described genes. Generally 24.44% (88/360) food samples classified as 11.11% (40/360) meat products and 13.33% (48/360) milk products carried B. cereus according to cultural and biochemical properties, with geometric mean (1.5×107±0.15 CFU/g or mL) . The highest counts (above 105 CFU/g or mL) were originated from milk products (with geometric mean 2.2×107±0.22 CFU/g or mL) more than meat products (with geometric mean 1×107±0.19 CFU/g or mL). The results revealed that all of our isolates had one or more virulence (enterotoxin) genes. In our research, the most predominant genes were nheA (100%), followed by cytK (61.11%), entFM (33.33%), bceT (11.11%) then hblC (5.56%). Molecular method detected that overall, 5 strains (27.78%) harbored only 1 gene (nheA), 7 strains (38.88%) harbored 2 genes which classified as 5 strains (27.78%) (nheA and cytK), 2 strains (11.11%) have (nheA and entFM). Moreover, 5 strains (27.78%) have 3 genes classified as 3 strains (16.67%) harbored (nheA, cytK and entFM), 1 strain (5.56%) had (nheA, cytK and hblC), and 1 strain (5.56%) had (nheA, cytK and bceT). Only 1 strain (5.56%) carried 4 tested virulence genes (nheA, cytK, entFM and bceT) genes. The most prevalent gene in meat and dairy foods was nheA (100%). The nucleotide sequences of (bceT, cytK, entFM, hblC and nheA genes) of B. cereus strains were deposited in GenBank under accession no. (MW911824, MW911825, MW911826, MW911827 and MW911828), respectively. Our study was established to indicate the presence of virulent B. cereus in meat and milk products ready for human consumption as a result of deficient hygienic actions. So, a plain for good hygienic measures should be modified to avoid causing serious health problems to human due to ingestion of such products.

Resumo A proteína 2 de ligação de nucleotídeos de guanina (GNB2) codifica a subunidade β2 (Gβ2) do complexo da proteína G. Tendo em vista o aumento da demanda de biomarcadores em câncer, o presente estudo foi planejado para explorar extensivamente a variação da expressão de GNB2 e seus papéis em diferentes cânceres usando bancos de dados on-line disponíveis e metodologia diversificada. Em vista de nossos resultados, o GNB2 foi notavelmente regulado para cima em relação aos controles correspondentes em 23 tipos de câncer. Além disso, a expressão elevada de GNB2 foi associada à redução da sobrevida global (OS) do carcinoma hepatocelular do fígado (LIHC) e do adenocarcinoma do reto (READ) apenas em todos os tipos de câncer analisados. Isso implica que GNB2 desempenha um papel vital na tumorigênese de LIHC e READ. Várias análises adicionais também exploraram seis vias críticas e poucas correlações relacionadas à expressão de GNB2 e diferentes outros parâmetros, como metilação do promotor, pureza do tumor, infiltração de células T CD8+, alteração genética e drogas quimioterápicas. Em conclusão, o gene GNB2 foi identificado neste estudo como um potencial biomarcador compartilhado (diagnóstico e prognóstico) de LIHC e READ.

Abstract The Guanine-nucleotide binding protein 2 (GNB2) encodes for β2 subunit (Gβ2) of the G-protein complex. Keeping in view the increased demand of reliable biomarkers in cancer, the current study was planned to extensively explored GNB2 expression variation and its roles in different cancers using online available databases and diverse methodology. In view of our results, the GNB2 was notably up-regulated relative to corresponding controls in twenty three cancer types. As well, the elevated expression of GNB2 was found to be associated with the reduced overall survival (OS) of the Liver Hepatocellular Carcinoma (LIHC) and Rectum Adenocarcinoma (READ) only out of all analyzed cancer types. This implies GNB2 plays vital role in the tumorigenesis of LIHC and READ. Several additional analysis also explored six critical pathways and few important correlations related to GNB2 expression and different other parameters such as promoter methylation, tumor purity, CD8+ T immune cells infiltration, and genetic alteration, and chemotherapeutic drugs. In conclusion, GNB2 gene has been identified in this study as a shared potential biomarker (diagnostic and prognostic) of LIHC and READ.

Silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) can enter tumor cells through endocytosis and transfer to mitochondria, then disrupt mitochondrial function, damage deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), and finally lead to cell death and apoptosis. As the Ag-NPs synthesized by Moringa peregrina leaf extract contain biomolecules such as flavonoids and terpenoids, they may suppress cancer by disrupting the flow of autophagy and inhibiting the differentiation of cancer cells, especially in apoptosis-resistant cancer cells. Accordingly, the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazoliumbromid (MTT) assay proved that Ag-NPs could inhibit the OVCAR-3 cell line in a timeand concentration-dependent manner. Real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) results showed that the ratio of the pro-apoptotic Bak1 gene to the anti-apoptotic Bclx gene increased about 10 times compared to the control. Also, the expression of the caspase-3 gene has increased about 18 times compared to the control. In addition, it was found that Ag-NPs can inhibit the progression of ovarian cancer cell lines and decrease the expression of the AKT1 gene by 0.08. And the more important point was the safety of Ag-NPs, which was checked by the lipid peroxidation method and it was confirmed that the treated hepatocytes did not have any significant difference in the production of malondialdehyde with the control and probably do not cause hepatotoxicity.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Immune dysfunction and thrombocytopenia are common features in liver cirrhosis. Platelet transfusion is the most widely used therapeutic approach for thrombocytopenia when indicated. The transfused platelets are prone to lesions during their storage that empower their interaction with the recipient leucocyte. These interactions modulate the host immune response. The impact of platelet transfusion on the immune system in cirrhotic patients is little understood. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the impact of platelet transfusion on neutrophil function in cirrhotic patients. Methods: This prospective cohort study was implemented on 30 cirrhotic patients receiving platelet transfusion and 30 healthy individuals as a control group. EDTA blood samples were collected from cirrhotic patients before and after an elective platelet transfusion. Flowcytometric analysis of neutrophil functions (CD11b expression and PCN formation) was performed. Results: There was a significant increase in expression of CD11b on neutrophils and Frequency of platelet-complexed neutrophils (PCN) in patients with cirrhosis compared with controls. Platelet transfusion increased level of CD11b and the frequency of PCN even more. There was a significant positive correlation between change in PCN Frequency pefore and after transfusion and the change in expression of CDllb among cirrhotic patients. Conclusions: Elective platelet transfusion appears to increase level of PCN in cirrhotic patients, moreover, exacerbate the expression of activation marker CDllb on both neutrophils and PCN. More research and studies are needed to corroborate our preliminary findings.

Abstract Introduction In sphenoid sinuses with ill-defined carotid bony landmarks, accidental injury of the internal carotid artery (ICA) remains one of the most challenging complications, which is particularly reported in the endoscopic endonasal transsphenoidal approaches (EETAs). Objectives To describe an anatomical model for the endoscopic orientation of the juxta-pituitary segment of the ICA in relation to the lateral opticocarotid recess (OCR) as a nearby bony landmark. Methods Dissection was performed progressively, simulating the EETA, in twenty fresh adult cadavers. After reducing the posterior and lateral walls of the sphenoid sinuses, various measurements were taken from both lateral OCRs to “contact points” on the juxta-pituitary segment of the ICA and lateral margins of the pituitary gland. Results The current results have enabled us to divide the region between the lateral OCRs into 3 compartments: 2 lateral parasellar compartments contain juxta-pituitary segments of the ICA with a mean width of 8 mm and a narrow range from 7 mm to 10 mm; and a central intercarotid sellar compartment represents the safe region for bone drilling, showing widely variable widths ranging from 9 mm to 20 mm. In all specimens, the variation in the width of the intercarotid compartment correlated with the distance between both lateral OCRs. Conclusion The present study improves surgeon awareness of the variations in the course of the ICA through the EETA along sphenoid sinuses with ill-defined bony landmarks. An appreciation of the measurements taken in the present study can help in operative training, and can also provide a base for future studies to confirm ICA courses associated with a higher risk of injury.

ABSTRACT Objectives: To assess serum anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) levels as an ovarian reserve marker in adolescent girls with autoimmune thyroiditis (AIT) and explore the relationship of this marker with autoimmunity and thyroid function biomarkers. Subjects and methods: This study included 96 adolescent girls with newly diagnosed AIT and 96 healthy, age- and sex-matched controls. All participants were evaluated with detailed history taking and physical examination, thyroid ultrasound, and measurement of levels of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), free thyroxin (FT4), free triiodothyronine (FT3), antithyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPOAb), antithyroglobulin antibody (TGAb), estradiol, total testosterone, and anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) levels. The LH/FSH ratio was also calculated. Among 96 patients evaluated, 78 were overtly hypothyroid and 18 were euthyroid. AMH levels were significantly lower in participants with overt hypothyroidism and euthyroidism compared with controls. Results: Serum levels of AMH correlated negatively with age, body mass index (BMI) standard deviation score (SDS), and TPOAb, TGAb, and TSH levels but positively with FT4 levels. In multivariate analysis, AMH levels correlated significantly with age (odds ratio [OR] = 1.65, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.18-2.32, p = 0.05), BMI SDS (OR = 2.3, 95% CI, 2.23-3.50, p = 0.01), TSH (OR = 2.43, 95% CI 1.5-2.8, p = 0.01), and TPOAb (OR = 4.1, 95% CI 3.26-8.75, p = 0.001). Conclusions: Ovarian reserve of adolescent girls with AIT, as measured by serum AMH levels, is affected by thyroid autoimmunity and hypothyroidism, indicating a possible need for ovarian reserve monitoring in these patients.

SUMMARY: Impacted lower third molars (IL3M) have different root shapes and numbers. This study aimed to create a classification for IL3M root forms, that should aid in understanding roots morphology. A retrospective cross-sectional study on patients had IL3M at the university clinics between 2017 and 2019. Panoramic radiographs were retrieved to classify the roots into fused roots (FR): one or two roots connected from furcation to apices, and separated roots (SR): two or more roots not connected from furcation to apical third, and each type has different forms. Statistical analysis was done by Chi-Square test. Five-hundred patients, males (54.6 %) and females (45.4 %) were included. SR were in 591 teeth (75.5 %), and FR in 192 teeth (24.5 %). Statistically significant associations emerged between SR and males (60 %) and between FR and females (66 %) (p = .000). SR forms were straight (45.8 %), joined roots (28.2 %), one straight and one curved (13.3 %), roots curved distal (9.1 %), roots curved mesial (2.5 %), and more than two roots (0.3 %). FR forms were straight (87.5 %), curved distal (9.4 %), S-shaped (2.1 %), and curved mesial (1 %). The common angulations of IL3M with SR were vertical (39 %) followed by mesioangular (25.7 %), while FR were mostly vertical (39.1 %) or horizontal (23.9 %). The classification is applicable on panoramic radiographs, and complements Winter and Pell & Gregory to provide a better description of IL3M status by adding root morphology to the angulation, occlusal, and ramus relationship.

RESUMEN: Los terceros molares inferiores impactados (3MII) tienen diferentes formas y números de raíces. Este estudio tuvo como objetivo crear una clasificación para las formas de raíz 3MII, que debería ayudar a comprender la morfología de las raíces. Realizamos un estudio transversal retrospectivo de pacientes con 3MII en las clínicas universitarias entre 2017 y 2019. Se recuperaron radiografías panorámicas para clasificar las raíces en raíces fusionadas (RF): una o dos raíces conectadas desde la zona de furca a los ápices y raíces separadas (RS): dos o más raíces no conectadas desde la bifurcación al tercio apical, y cada tipo con formas diferentes. El análisis estadístico se realizó mediante la prueba Chi-Cuadrado. Se incluyeron 500 pacientes, hombres (54,6 %) y mujeres (45,4 %). RS se observó en 591 dientes (75,5 %) y RF en 192 dientes (24,5 %). Surgieron asociaciones estadísticamente significativas entre RS y hombres (60 %) y entre RF y mujeres (66 %) (p = .000). Las formas de RS eran rectas (45,8 %), raíces unidas (28,2 %), una recta y una curva (13,3 %), raíces curvas distales (9,1 %), raíces curvas mesiales (2,5 %) y más de dos raíces (0,3 %).). Las formas RF eran rectas (87,5 %), curvas distales (9,4 %), en forma de S (2,1 %) y curvas mesiales (1 %). Las angulaciones comunes de 3MII con RS fueron verticales (39 %), seguidas de mesioangular (25,7 %), mientras que RF fueron mayoritariamente verticales (39,1 %) u horizontales (23,9 %). La clasificación es aplicable en radiografías panorámicas y complementa a Winter y Pell & Gregory para proporcionar una mejor descripción del estado de 3MII al agregar la morfología de la raíz a la relación de angulación, oclusal y rama.

ABSTRACT Endoscopy is a competitive field in clinical practice, in which skilled endoscopists are in high demand. The learning process for Junior Gastrointestinal Endoscopists (JGEs) is difficult, quite long, and technically demanding. This directs JGEs to seek additive learning sources, including online sources. The purpose of this study was to determine the frequency, context, attitudes, perceived benefits, drawbacks, and recommendations for using YouTube videos as an educational platform among JGEs from the uses'prespective. We disseminated a cross-sectional online questionnaire from January 15th to March 17th, 2022, and recruited 166 JGE from 39 different countries. The majority of surveyed JGEs (138, 85.2%) were already using YouTube as a learning tool. The majority of JGEs (97, 59.8%) reported gaining knowledge and applying it in their clinical practice, but 56 (34.6 %) reported gaining knowledge without application in real practice. Most participants (124, 76.5 %) reported missing procedure details in YouTube endoscopy videos. The majority of JGEs (110, 80.9%) reported that YouTube videos are provided by endoscopy specialists. Only one participant, 0.6% out of the 166 JGEs surveyed, disliked video records, including YouTube as a source of learning. Based on their experience, 106 (65.4%) of participants recommended YouTube as an educational tool for the coming generation of JGEs. We consider that YouTube represents a potentially useful tool for JGEs, supplying them with both knowledge and clinical practice tricks. However, many drawbacks could make the experience misleading and time-consuming. Consequently, we encourage educational providers on YouTube and other platforms to upload well-constructed, peer-reviewed, interactive educational endoscopy videos.

RESUMEN Antecedentes : La endoscopia es un campo competitivo en la práctica clínica en el que los endoscopistas calificados tienen una gran demanda. El proceso de aprendizaje para los endoscopistas gastrointestinales junior (JE) es difícil, bastante largo y técnicamente exigente. Esto dirige a los JE a buscar fuentes de aprendizaje adicionales, incluidas las fuentes en línea. El propósito de este estudio fue determinar la frecuencia, el contexto, las actitudes, los beneficios percibidos, los inconvenientes y las recomendaciones para el uso de videos de YouTube como una plataforma educativa entre los JE desde la perspectiva de los usuarios. Métodos: Se aplicó un cuestionario transversal en línea difundido del 15 de enero al 17 de marzo de 2022 reclutó a 166 endoscopistas gastrointestinales junior de 39 países diferentes. Resultados : La mayoría de los JE encuestados (138, 85,2%) ya utilizaban YouTube como herramienta de aprendizaje. La mayoría de los JE (97, 59,8 %) refirieron adquirir conocimientos y aplicarlos en su práctica clínica, pero 56 (34,6 %) informaron adquirir conocimientos sin aplicación en la práctica real. La mayoría de los participantes (124, 76,5 %) informó que faltaban detalles del procedimiento en los videos de endoscopia de YouTube. La mayoría de los JE (110, 80,9%) informaron que los videos de YouTube son proporcionados por especialistas en endoscopia. Solo a un participante, el 0,6% de los 166 JE encuestados, le disgustaron los registros de video, incluyendo a YouTube como fuente de aprendizaje. Según su experiencia, 106 (65,4 %) de los participantes recomendaron YouTube como una herramienta educativa para la próxima generación de JE. Conclusión: YouTube representa una herramienta potencialmente útil para los EJ, brindándoles tanto conocimientos como trucos para la práctica clínica. Sin embargo, muchos inconvenientes podrían hacer que la experiencia sea engañosa y consuma mucho tiempo. En consecuencia, alentamos a los proveedores de educación en YouTube y otras plataformas a subir videos de endoscopia educativos interactivos, bien construidos y revisados por pares.

Abstract Seismic tomography has been extensively used in geophysics for different purposes, including geological mapping, characterisation of inner earth structure and prospecting for oil and gas. In geophysics, seismic or electromagnetic waves are commonly used to provide tomographic information. In the geotechnical area, seismic tomography is emerging as a promising technique that can be used to determine the spatial variability of shear wave velocities and hence the small strain stiffness of geomaterials, especially when used in the centrifuge where in-situ stress conditions can be mimicked closely. This paper describes the development of a seismic tomography technique in the centrifuge. This technology can be used to image variations of soil stiffness under various mechanical, chemical and physical conditions. The paper describes the various components of the system, which includes arrays of small-size bender elements, hardware and software used to transmit, receive and acquire the shear wave signals during a centrifuge test. The paper illustrates the performance of the system at both 1g and in the centrifuge. Results of tomographic inversion performed on travel-time data obtained from these tests are discussed.

ABSTRACT. The aim of current study was to survey genetic variability of PALM gene’s exon 3 and 4 by PCR-SSCP and DNA sequencing in Zel and Lori Bakhtiari sheep breeds. The SIFT (Sorting Intolerant from Tolerant) and PHyre2 program were used to predict the possible impact of amino acid substitutions on performance and structure of the paralemmin protein. A total of 140 animal's from 2 Iranian sheep breeds with different fat metabolisms, Lori-Bakhtiari and Zel sheep breeds were considered. The results showed that there are two polymorphic sites including a nonsynonymous substitution and an insertion mutation (49bp). Non-synonymous mutation deduced Thr20Ala amino acid exchange and ensuing two different structures for paralemmin protein that could be potentially affect protein structure and function during the interaction with glutamate in the cytosolic surface of plasma membrane. PALM gene, according to evolutionary path, is classified into two separate categories. In first covey, Gallus gallus and in second one, other species in several branches, so that the sequence of cow and sheep is placed in a sub-branch which forms a clade beside goat. Comparison of illustrated coding region sequences, PALM gene among different species, is of orthologous which are derived from a common ancestor.

Abstract Artificial pollination is a prerequisite to achieve a sufficient yield of palm trees; hence the identification of superior male palm trees as a standard pollen source for date palm growers has a high priority. The current study was carried out to assess phenotypic diversity among four date palm males namely Hayani, Meghal, Fardh, and Ghannami Ahmer. The genetic diversity and phylogenetic relationships between palm genotypes were performed using eighteen quantitative morphological parameters of both vegetative and reproductive parts (leaf, leaflets, spines, and spathe). Principal components analysis and hierarchical clustering was performed to identify the differences and similarities between the studied genotypes. Results showed significant differences in morphological parameters between the four male palm trees. Most of the selected morphological parameters could be used as quantitative markers for the identification of date palm male genotypes. Principal component analysis showed that, the studied parameters formed two major homogeneous groups of variables, which possessed a high proportion of the observed phenotypic diversity among the studied date palm males. Cluster analysis showed that Fardh, Ghannami Ahmer, and Meghal, are closer related than Hayani; Ghannami and Fardh males showed the highest genetic similarity while the lowest similarity index was detected between Hayani and Ghannami Ahmer males.

Resumo A polinização artificial é um pré-requisito para obter bom rendimento de tamareiras; portanto, a identificação de tamareiras masculinas superiores como fonte padrão de pólen para produtores de tamareiras é de suma importância. O presente estudo foi realizado para avaliar a diversidade fenotípica entre quatro genótipos masculinos de tamareiras, a saber: Hayani, Meghal, Fardh e Ghannami Ahmer. A diversidade genética e as relações filogenéticas entre os genótipos de tamareiras foram realizadas usando dezoito parâmetros morfológicos quantitativos das partes vegetativa e reprodutiva (folha, folíolos, espinhos e espata). A análise de componentes principais e do agrupamento hierárquico foi realizada para identificar as diferenças e as semelhanças entre os genótipos estudados. Os resultados mostraram diferenças significativas dos parâmetros morfológicos entre os quatro genótipos masculinos. A maioria dos parâmetros morfológicos selecionados poderia ser usada como marcadores quantitativos para a identificação de genótipos masculinos de tamareira. A análise de componentes principais mostrou que os parâmetros estudados formaram dois grandes grupos homogêneos de variáveis, que possuíam alta proporção da diversidade fenotípica observada entre os genótipos masculinos de tamareira estudados. A análise de agrupamento mostrou que os genótipos Fardh, Ghannami Ahmer e Meghal têm relação mais próxima do que Hayani; Ghannami e Fardh apresentaram a maior similaridade genética, enquanto o menor índice de similaridade foi detectado entre Hayani e Ghannami Ahmer.

Abstract: Neoliberal reason articulated with control Society has favored the constitution of individual and collective subjects through morality. On the one hand, neoliberalism has promoted the expansion of uncertainty in the lives of the ‘humans-made-capital’, inciting an oppressing individual and familial responsibility. On the other hand, control society codifies and captures perceptions and affects to take ownership of the future, conforming subjects ever more responsive but impotent. In this context, the affects which circulate in feminisms, such as rage and anger, run a high risk of being colonized by moral resentment. This text works to avoid it by bringing the distinction between morality and ethics in the work of Michel Foucault and Gilles Deleuze, and by revisiting Wendy Brown and Sara Ahmed’s debate to shed light over the political practices of contemporary feminisms.

Resumen: La racionalidad neoliberal articulada a la sociedad de control favoreció un modo de subjetivación basado en la moral. De una parte, el neoliberalismo propició una amplificación de la incerteza en la vida de los ‘humanos hecho capitales’, clamando a una responsabilidad individual y familiar opresora. De otra parte, la sociedad de control codifica y captura las percepciones y afectos para apropiar-se del futuro, conformando sujetos cada vez más responsivos, aunque impotentes. En este contexto, los afectos que circulan en los feminismos, como la ira, tienen alto riesgo de quedaren colonizados por el resentimiento moral. Este texto trabaja para prevenir-lo al convocar la distinción entre moralidad y ética, presentes en la obra de Michel Foucault y Gilles Deleuze, y revisitar el debate de Wendy Brown y Sara Ahmed, con la intención de poner luz sobre las prácticas políticas de los feminismos contemporáneos.

De um lado, o neoliberalismo promoveu um alargamento da incerteza na vida dos ‘humanos feito capitais’, os convocando a uma responsabilidade individual e familiar opressora. De outro lado, a sociedade do controle codifica e captura as percepções e os afetos a fim de apropriar-se do futuro, conformando sujeitos cada vez mais responsivos, porém impotentes. Neste contexto, os afetos que circulam nos feminismos, como a ira e a raiva, correm alto risco de serem colonizados pelo ressentimento moral. Este texto trabalha para evitá-lo, ao trazer a distinção entre moralidade e ética, presentes na obra de Michel Foucault e Gilles Deleuze, e revistar o debate de Wendy Brown e Sara Ahmed, a fim de jogar luz sobre as práticas políticas dos feminismos contemporâneos.

Abstract The aim of this study was to compare the quantification of hard-tissue debris by using micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) and nano-focus computed tomography (nano-CT) after root canal instrumentation. Ten mandibular molars containing an isthmus in the mesial root were scanned in a SkyScan 1172 micro-CT device with a voxel size of 12.8 µm and in a NanoTom nano-CT device with 5.5 µm. The mesial root canals were irrigated with 5 mL of saline solution at the orifice level, instrumented with Reciproc R25 files and a second scanning was performed by micro-CT and nano-CT devices for post-instrumentation images. DataViewer software was used for registering the pre- and post-operative micro-CT and nano-CT images. The root canal and the debris were segmented for quantitative analysis of the volume of the canal and volume of debris using CTAn software. Statistical analysis was performed using the T test for comparison between volume of the canal after instrumentation and volume of debris in both image modalities. The level of significance was set at p < 0.05. Nano-CT images showed higher values of debris when compared with micro-CT (p < 0.05) after root canal instrumentation. No difference was observed between the volume of the root canal after instrumentation in the two imaging methods used (p > 0.05). Nano-CT technology can be recommended as a more precise method for quantitative analysis of hard-tissue debris. Moreover, in Endodontic research it is a promising method, as it is capable of providing higher spatial and contrast resolution, faster scanning and higher image quality.

ABSTRACT Objective: To describe oral healthcare services administered during the lockdown in the Eastern Mediterranean region and to investigate the role of socio-professional characteristics of dental practitioners or their self-reported COVID-19 infection. Material and Methods: A questionnaire was distributed to dental practitioners in all healthcare sectors in Jordan, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia. Results: There was a total of 335 participants, with the majority being females (N=225, 67.2%) and general practitioners (N=202, 60.3%). Cellulitis was the most common emergency encountered (N=108). The most common urgent procedures were for pulpitis, abscesses, and pericoronitis (N=191, 130, and 95, respectively). Country-specific significant associations were pulpitis in Egypt and Jordan, broken symptomatic teeth in Jordan, and biopsy in Egypt (p<0.05). The Ministry of Health was significantly associated with the management of dental infections, avulsion, and orthodontic emergencies, while university hospitals were significantly associated with advanced restorative procedures (p<0.05). Male practitioners performed significantly more procedures, particularly surgical emergencies (p<0.05). Conclusion: Dental infections were the most common complaints among dental patients during lockdown. Countryand sector-specific dental procedures are detected. Male gender seems to play a determinant role in performing a higher number of procedures, particularly for surgical emergencies.
