Abstract Objectives To assess alcohol use and perceived change in alcohol consumption (before and during the pandemic) in Brazilians during the COVID-19 pandemic, their correlates, and their associations with depressive, anxiety and co-occurring depressive and anxiety symptoms (D&A). Methods This is a cross-sectional study comprising 992 individuals in self-isolation. A self-report questionnaire was used to assess whether participants were drinking during self-isolation and whether they changed their drinking behavior (drinking less, more, or no change) from before to during the pandemic. D&A symptoms were assessed using the Beck Depression and Anxiety Inventories (BDI and BAI). Results A total of 68.5% of participants reported alcohol consumption during the pandemic, and 22.7% of these reported increased alcohol use. Smoking was positively associated with alcohol consumption during the pandemic. Alcohol consumption was associated with anxiety (OR = 1.40, 95%CI 1.06-1.85, p < 0.01) and D&A (OR = 1.38, 95%CI 1.02-1.87, p = 0.033) symptoms. Conclusions Drinking during self-isolation was prevalent and was associated with risk factors for alcohol use disorders. The long-term effects of high drinking rates and increased consumption should be proactively monitored and assessed.

Abstract In much of the West, including Brazil, drug use has increased since social distancing began in response to the pandemic. Use of smoked and modified drugs, and their impacts on health, may contribute to aggravate the effects of the pandemic. However, studies on the relationship between use of smoked drugs and the new coronavirus are still scarce and have not received enough attention in global health recommendations. This paper aims to briefly review the relationship between use of smoked drugs and acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 [SARS-CoV-2]. Recent studies also suggest that drug consumption increases the risk of contamination by SARS-CoV-2 and leads to worse prognosis, particularly consumption of drugs that affect lung function. Use of smoked drugs, especially tobacco, is strongly associated with lung diseases that are risk factors for contamination by SARS-CoV-2. It is essential to develop strategies based on specific characteristics of drug users and for mental health professionals to be included in strategic teams. It is also necessary to invest in information campaigns regarding risks and prevention of harm caused by smoked drugs as well as to design strategies that facilitate access to psychosocial treatment during the pandemic.

Abstract This paper identifies and discusses the psychological ploys employed by recent conservative and authoritarian movements in Brazil, particularly the School without Party movement, against topics like sexuality and gender, which are currently included as essential to school education. To do so, we sought to understand their cultural basis and how they are ideologically articulated to prevent school debate around these topics. By analyzing Bills 246/2019 and 1859/2015, we identified some conservative strategies that authoritatively delegitimize their inclusion in school education. Chief among them is the instrumentalization of religion, since it favors subordinating religious belief, mainly associated with traditional Christian moral conservatism, to authoritarian political discourse. Similar to the fascist movements in the 1930s United States that claimed an authoritarian and oppressive ordering of society by appealing to religious content, religious speech is currently instrumentalized to encourage social and political conservatism adherence and to justify deep-seated prejudices. Religion instrumentalization is used to justify upholding conservative values at school and in society, as well as to reiterate the monogamous heterosexual family model and patriarchy. Through such ploys, authoritarian and conservative movements, articulated around denying sexual and gender diversity, prevent the school from becoming a democratic and diverse environment.

Resumen Este artículo tiene por objetivo identificar y discutir algunas de las estratagemas psicológicas que utilizan los movimientos conservadores y autoritarios, difundidas recientemente en Brasil, en particular por el Movimiento Escuela sin Partido, con relación a temas como sexualidad y género, que actualmente se incluyeron en la formación escolar. Con este propósito, se pretende comprender la base cultural en la que se han apoyado y cómo la articulan ideológicamente para hacer inviable el debate sobre ellas. A partir de análisis de los Proyectos de Ley 246/2019 y 1859/2015, se identificaron estrategias conservadoras que, autoritariamente, deslegitiman la inclusión de estos temas en la formación escolar. Entre ellas, parece urgente analizar la instrumentalización de la religión, porque favorece la subordinación de la creencia religiosa al discurso político autoritario, sobre todo asociada al conservadurismo moral presente en las vertientes del cristianismo brasileño. Al igual que los movimientos fascistas en los Estados Unidos en los años 1930 que reivindicaban una planificación autoritaria de la sociedad mediante un llamado a contenidos religiosos instrumentalizados, actualmente se utiliza el discurso religioso como forma de promover la adhesión al conservadurismo social y político y de justificar los prejuicios. Se constata que la instrumentalización de la religión es un modo de justificar la permanencia de valores conservadores en la escuela, así como de confirmar el modelo de familia heterosexual monógama y el orden patriarcal. Estos estratagemas que son utilizados por los movimientos conservadores y autoritarios, articulados en función de la negación de la diversidad sexual y de género, impiden que la escuela sea democrática y diversa.

Resumo Este artigo tem por objetivo identificar e discutir alguns estratagemas psicológicos utilizados por movimentos conservadores e autoritários recentemente difundidos no Brasil - em especial, pelo Movimento Escola sem Partido -, em relação a temas como sexualidade e gênero, que atualmente foram incluídos como essenciais à formação escolar. Com esse propósito, empenhamo-nos em compreender a perspectiva cultural em que se apoiam e o modo como a articulam, ideologicamente, para inviabilizar o debate sobre eles. A partir da análise dos Projetos de Lei 246/2019 e 1859/2015, identificamos estratégias conservadoras que, autoritariamente, deslegitimam sua inclusão na formação escolar. Dentre elas, pareceu-nos urgente investigar a instrumentalização da religião, pois favorece a subordinação da crença religiosa, sobretudo associada ao conservadorismo moral imbricado na tradição cristã brasileira, ao discurso político autoritário. Assim como os movimentos fascistas que, nos Estados Unidos da década de 1930, reivindicavam um ordenamento autoritário e opressor da sociedade por meio do apelo a conteúdos religiosos instrumentalizados para esse fim, atualmente, o discurso religioso também é utilizado como forma de suscitar adesão ao conservadorismo social e político e de justificar preconceitos arraigados. Constatamos que a instrumentalização da religião é uma forma de justificar a permanência de valores conservadores na escola e na sociedade, bem como de reiterar o modelo de família heterossexual monogâmica e a ordem patriarcal. Por meio de estratagemas como esses, os movimentos conservadores e autoritários, articulados em função da negação da diversidade sexual e de gênero, impedem que a escola se constitua como espaço democrático e diverso.

Abstract Ticks parasitizing 102 wild animals in the states of Mato Grosso and Goiás, Brazil were collected between 2015 and 2018. A total of 2338 ticks (865 males, 541 females, 823 nymphs, and 109 larvae) belonging to four genera (Amblyomma, Dermacentor, Haemaphysalis, and Rhipicephalus) and at least 21 species were identified. DNA extraction and a molecular survey for rickettsial agents were performed on 650 ticks. The results revealed parasitism by the following species: Rickettsia amblyommatis in Amblyomma cajennense s.s., A. cajennense s.l., Amblyomma coelebs, Amblyomma humerale, Amblyomma longirostre, Amblyomma nodosum, Amblyomma scalpturatum, Amblyomma sculptum, and Amblyomma romitii; Rickettsia parkeri in Amblyomma nodosum, Amblyomma ovale, Amblyomma scalpturatum, and Amblyomma triste; Rickettsia rhipicephali in Haemaphysalis juxtakochi; Rickettsia sp. in A. cajennense s.s., A. nodosum, and A. sculptum, and lastly, ‘Candidatus Rickettsia andeanae’ in Amblyomma parvum and Rhipicephalus microplus. This study expands the body of knowledge about tick parasitism among wild animals, including new data concerning tick-host associations, and provides information about the epidemiology of tick-borne pathogens in the Center-West region of Brazil.

Resumo Foram coletados carrapatos parasitando 102 animais silvestres nos estados de Mato Grosso e Goiás, Brasil, entre 2015 e 2018. Um total de 2338 carrapatos (865 machos, 541 fêmeas, 823 ninfas e 109 larvas) pertencentes a quatro gêneros (Amblyomma, Dermacentor, Haemaphysalis e Rhipicephalus) e pelo menos 21 espécies foram identificadas. A extração de DNA e pesquisa molecular para agentes riquétsiais foram realizadas em 650 carrapatos. Os resultados revelaram parasitismo pelas seguintes espécies: Rickettsia amblyommatis em Amblyomma cajennense s.s., A. cajennense s.l., Amblyomma coelebs, Amblyomma humerale, Amblyomma longirostre, Amblyomma nodosum, Amblyomma scalpturatum, Amblyomma sculptum e Amblyomma romitii; Rickettsia parkeri em Amblyomma nodosum, Amblyomma ovale, Amblyomma scalpturatum e Amblyomma triste; Rickettsia rhipicephali em Haemaphysalis juxtakochi; Rickettsia sp. em A. cajennense s.s., A. nodosum e A. sculptum e, por último, ‘Candidatus Rickettsia andeanae’ em Amblyomma parvum e Rhipicephalus microplus. Este estudo amplia o conhecimento sobre o parasitismo de carrapatos em animais silvestres, incluindo-se novos dados sobre associações carrapato-hospedeiro. Fornece, ainda, informações sobre a epidemiologia de patógenos transmitidos por carrapatos na região Centro-Oeste do Brasil.

ABSTRACT Objective: To analyze the Social Representations of pregnant women about high-risk pregnancy and its repercussions for prenatal care. Method: Qualitative study, based on the procedural aspect of the Theory of Social Representations, carried out with 62 high-risk prenatal pregnant women at a High Complexity Maternity, in Belém, PA, Brazil. Data from semi-structured interviews were processed by the software Interface de R pour les Analyzes Multidimensionnelles de Textes et de Questionnaires. Results: Four categories emerged, in which three dimensions of the Theory composing the genesis of Social Representations are considered: the affective dimension, the biological dimension and the sociocultural dimension. Conclusion: Affects, negative feelings, and adaptations were revealed, with high-risk pregnancy being represented as an unusual and uncomfortable event, influenced by common sense and science, communication means, and dialogues with health professionals, with family support being considered of paramount importance. and prenatal care a propitious moment for establishing bonds with the health professional, seen as essential for their adherence to the care offered.

RESUMEN Objetivo: Analizar las Representaciones Sociales de gestantes sobre el embarazo de alto riesgo y sus repercusiones para el prenatal. Método: Estudio cualitativo, basado en el aspecto procedimental de la Teoría de las Representaciones Sociales, realizado con 62 gestantes en la atención prenatal de alto riesgo en una Maternidad de Alta Complejidad, en Belém, PA, Brasil. Los datos de las entrevistas semiestructuradas fueron procesados por el software Interface de R pour les Analyses Multidimensionnelles de Textes et de Questionnaires. Resultados: Surgieron cuatro categorías, en las que se consideraron tres dimensiones de la Teoría que compusieran la génesis de las Representaciones Sociales, a saber: la dimensión afectiva, la dimensión biológica y la dimensión sociocultural. Conclusión: Se revelaron afectos, sentimientos negativos y adaptaciones, representando el embarazo de alto riesgo como un evento insólito e incómodo, influenciado por el sentido común y la ciencia, los medios de comunicación y diálogos con profesionales de la salud, considerándose de suma importancia el apoyo familiar y el control prenatal, un momento propicio para establecer vínculos con el profesional de la salud, visto como fundamental para su adhesión a los cuidados ofrecidos.

RESUMO Objetivo: Analisar as Representações Sociais de mulheres grávidas sobre a gestação de alto risco e suas repercussões para assistência pré-natal. Método: Estudo qualitativo, pautado na vertente processual da Teoria das Representações Sociais, realizado com 62 gestantes do pré-natal de alto risco de uma Maternidade de Alta Complexidade, em Belém, PA, Brasil. Os dados das entrevistas semiestruturadas foram processados pelo software Interface de R pour les Analyses Multidimensionnelles de Textes et de Questionnaires. Resultados: Emergiram quatro categorias, nas quais consideram-se três dimensões da Teoria que compuseram a gênese das Representações Sociais, quais sejam: a dimensão afetiva, a dimensão biológica e a dimensão sociocultural. Conclusão: Desvelaram-se afetos, sentimentos negativos e adaptações, representando-se a gestação de alto risco como evento inusitado e desconfortável, influenciado pelo senso comum e ciência, meios de comunicação e diálogos com os profissionais de saúde, sendo o suporte familiar considerado de suma importância e o pré-natal um momento propício para estabelecimento de vínculos com o profissional de saúde, visto como fundamental para sua adesão aos cuidados ofertados.

ABSTRACT Objective: to build and validate the content of an educational technology to guide pregnant women about immunization. Method: a methodological study carried out from December 2020 to October 2021 in Belém, Pará, Brazil. It consisted of two stages: Construction through an Integrative Literature Review and face and content validation with 16 judges using a Likert scale for data collection and the Content Validity Index for analysis. Results: a double-sided table flipbook was created on immunization, which was assessed by 100% of the judges as relevant, with a mean Content Validity Index per block greater than 0.86. Conclusion: the technology was built with technically correct information and validated by experts in the respective areas. It is understood that its use will ease the prenatal Nursing practice, considering it to be a tool capable of arousing interest and encouraging dialogue between professionals and pregnant women, solving doubts in the immunization context.

RESUMEN Objetivo: elaborar y validar el contenido de una tecnología educativa para orientar a mujeres embarazadas sobre la inmunización. Método: estudio metodológico realizado de diciembre de 2020 a octubre de 2021, en Belén, Pará, Brasil. Constó de dos etapas: Elaboración por medio de Revisión Integradora de la Literatura y validación de apariencia y contenido por 16 jueces usando una escala Likert para la recolección de datos y el Índice de Validez de Contenido para el análisis. Resultados: se creó un cuadernillo doble faz sobre inmunización, que fue evaluado como relevante por el 100% de los jueces, con un Índice de Validez de Contenido promedio por sección superior a 0,86. Conclusión: tecnología elaborada con información técnicamente correcta y validada por expertos en las respectivas áreas. Se considera que su uso facilitará la práctica de la enfermería prenatal, es una herramienta capaz de despertar interés y fomentar el diálogo entre profesionales y gestantes, resolviendo dudas en el contexto de la inmunización.

Método: estudo metodológico realizado em dezembro de 2020 a outubro de 2021, em Belém, Pará, Brasil. Constou de duas etapas: Construção por meio de Revisão Integrativa da Literatura e validação de aparência e conteúdo com 16 juízes utilizando escala Likert para coleta dos dados e o Índice de Validade de Conteúdo para análise. Resultados: elaborou-se um álbum seriado de mesa, com dupla face, sobre imunização que foi avaliado por 100% dos juízes como pertinente com média do Índice de Validade de Conteúdo por blocos superior a 0,86. Conclusão: tecnologia construída com informações tecnicamente corretas e validada junto a especialistas nas respectivas áreas. Entende-se que seu uso facilitará a prática da enfermagem no pré-natal, considerando ser ferramenta capaz de despertar interesse e favorecer o diálogo entre profissionais e gestantes, sanando dúvidas no contexto da imunização.

Abstract The Santos Basin (SB) is the main petroliferous basin in the Brazilian continental margin and one of the most studied marine areas in Brazil. However, historical data suggest that new efforts should be carried out to acquire quantitative biological data, especially in the deep sea, to establish the baseline of essential ocean variables in different ecosystems for future monitoring programs. The Brazilian energy company Petrobras planned and executed 24 oceanographic cruises over a period of 2 years to assess the benthic (SANSED cruise) and pelagic (SANAGU cruise) systems of the SB (356 days at sea in 2019 and 2021/2022). These efforts were part of the Santos Project, which comprised a comprehensive environmental study aimed at investigating benthic and pelagic variables to characterize ecology, biogeochemistry, thermohaline properties of water masses, and ocean circulation patterns, geomorphology, and sedimentology, as well as organic and inorganic chemistry. Here we present the detailed sampling designs and the field methods employed on board, during the SB scientific cruises. All sampling protocols were based on standardized approaches. For the benthos analyses, triplicate sediment samples were performed using a GOMEX-type box corer (0.25 m²) or a large modified Van Veen grab (0.75 m²) at 100 stations ranging from 25 to 2400 m depth. At each station, 25 geochemical and physico-chemical parameters were analyzed in addition to micro-, meio-, and macrofauna and living foraminifera samples. For the pelagic system, 60 stations were selected to investigate the plankton community, ranging in size from pico- to macroplankton, through vertical, horizontal, and oblique net hauls (20, 200, and 500 μm mesh size), as well as 25 biogeochemical parameters collected with an aid of a CTD-rosette sampler. Part of this scientific information also serves the Regional Environmental Characterization Project (PCR-BS) in support of Petrobras’ Santos Basin drilling licensing process led by the Brazilian Environmental Agency – IBAMA. This project contributes to the sustainable development of the SB, in line with the guidelines of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.

Abstract Continental margins usually have a high degree of environmental heterogeneity, which, in turn, promotes high benthic biodiversity. The South-Southeast regions concentrate the most well-mapped areas of the Brazilian continental margin regarding seafloor geomorphology and physical oceanography. However, the structure of the soft-sediment benthic fauna of the continental slope is still unknown. Characterization and understanding of the Brazilian continental slope biota are imperative since human activities are increasing in the last decades, especially after the discovery of the pre-salt reservoir in Santos Basin. In this study, we aimed to establish a baseline of the spatial distribution of the benthic macrofaunal communities regarding their latitudinal and bathymetric patterns in the Santos Basin to support future environmental monitoring activities in the region. As part of the Santos Project – The Santos Basin Regional Environmental Characterization (PCR-BS) – coordinated by CENPES/PETROBRAS, a benthic oceanographic cruise was carried out in 2019. Sediment samples were collected using a GOMEX-type box corer in 47 stations distributed in eight transects (400– 2,400 m depth range). In total, 12 additional stations (1,300–2,200 m) were defined to cover an area where oil and gas are exploited. Our results showed that macrofaunal assemblages of the Santos Basin present strong depth zonation related to changes in organic matter input, as well as to temperature, carbonate, and grain size. At local scale, the northern sector stood out for having a higher abundance of macrofauna in the upper slope (400 m) and it probably reflects the oceanographic processes and the organic enrichment caused by the upwelling events that occur at Cabo Frio region. The zonation pattern and the dominance of some polychaete, peracarid crustacean, and bivalve families were similar to other SE Brazilian continental margins.

ABSTRACT Objective: To understand the challenges in the care of children born to mothers with COVID-19 during the pandemic. Method: Qualitative research, conducted from November 2020 to May 2021, in two public maternity hospitals, with women who had children during the first wave of the pandemic, diagnosed with COVID-19 during pregnancy and/or childbirth. There were nineteen semi-structured interviews with thematic analysis. Symbolic Interactionism was used as a theoretical framework. Results: Changes in the care for newborn children were identified. In the domestic environment, hygiene measures with the newborn children were intensified, social isolation restricted the support network and mothers felt alone and overwhelmed. In terms of health care, there was a setback in neonatal care and interruption of professional care, such as the suspension of appointments. Conclusion: The pandemic has restructured traditional models of family care, intensified difficulties in accessing healthcare, and exposed children to inherent risks due to a lack of proper follow-up.

RESUMEN Objetivo: Comprender los desafíos en el cuidado de niños nacidos de madres con COVID-19 durante una pandemia. Método: Investigación cualitativa, realizada de noviembre de 2020 a mayo de 2021, en dos maternidades públicas, con mujeres que tuvieron hijos durante la primera ola de la pandemia, diagnosticadas con COVID-19 durante el embarazo y/o parto. Se realizaron diecinueve entrevistas semiestructuradas con análisis temático. Se utilizó como marco teórico el Interaccionismo Simbólico. Resultados: Se identificaron cambios en el cuidado del recién nacido. En el ámbito doméstico, se redoblaron las medidas de higiene con el recién nacido, el aislamiento social restringió la red de apoyo y las madres se sintieron solas y abrumadas. En cuanto a la atención, hubo retroceso en la atención neonatal e interrupción de la atención profesional, como la suspensión de citas. Conclusión: La pandemia ha reestructurado los modelos tradicionales de cuidado familiar, intensificado las dificultades de acceso a la salud y expuesto a los niños a los riesgos inherentes a la falta de seguimiento.

Método: Pesquisa qualitativa, realizada de novembro de 2020 a maio de 2021, em duas maternidades públicas, com mulheres que tiveram filhos na primeira onda da pandemia, diagnosticadas com COVID-19, durante a gestação e/ou parto. Realizaram-se 19 entrevistas semiestruturadas com análise temática. Utilizou-se do Interacionismo Simbólico como referencial teórico. Resultados: Identificaram-se mudanças nos cuidados a crianças recém-nascidas. No ambiente doméstico, as medidas de higiene com o recém-nascido foram redobradas, o isolamento social restringiu a rede de apoio e as mães se sentiram sozinhas e sobrecarregadas. No âmbito assistencial, houve retrocesso no cuidado neonatal e interrupção de cuidados profissionais, como suspensão de consultas. Conclusão: A pandemia reestruturou os modelos tradicionais de cuidados familiares, intensificou as dificuldades de acesso à saúde e expôs as crianças a riscos inerentes à falta de acompanhamento.

Abstract Introduction Clinical and pathological staging plays an important role on the prognosis of head and neck cancer (HNC) patients. Objective The present study aims to compare clinical and pathological T, N and overall staging in patients with HNC, to identify factors associated with these discrepancies, and to analyze and compare survival or disease-free survival in staging disagreements. Methods Retrospective cohort including every patient submitted to neck dissection from January 2010 to December 2020 in the department of Otorhinolaryngology of a tertiary hospital center. Results A total of 79 patients were analyzed; their mean age was 58.52 ± 13.15 years old and 88.9% were male. Assessing overall staging, discrepancies were noted in 53% (36.4% upstaging and 16.6% downstaging) and were significantly associated with clinical overall staging (p = 0.006). Regarding T staging, differences were noted in 45.5% (30.3% upstaging and 15.2% downstaging) and were significantly associated with imaging modality (p = 0.016), clinical T staging (p = 0.049), and histology (p = 0.017). Discrepancies in N staging were noted in 38% (25.3% upstaging and 12.7% downstaging) and were significantly associated with age (p = 0.013), clinical N staging (p < 0.001), and presence of extranodal invasion (p < 0.001). Both in Overall, T, and N staging, the aforementioned disagreements were not associated with either higher mortality or higher disease relapse. Conclusion Overall, T, and N staging disagree in an important number of cases, and the overall stage can disagree in up to 53% of the cases. These disagreements do not seem to influence overall and disease-free survival.

Abstract The Pyroligneous extract is a product from the combustion of plant biomass with applications in the fields of health, industrial chemistry, and agriculture. The discovery of new molecules with therapeutic potential and of natural origin continues to be one of the great challenges for research centres around the world. The following work aims to analyze, through a technological prospection, the use of pyroligneous extracts for therapeutic purposes. To carry out the study, searches were carried out in documents deposited in Brazil, Europe, and the United States and searched on platforms specialized in patents. The number of inventions using pyroligneous extract with therapeutic applications is still quite small, however, innovations have been observed for the treatment of diseases of great clinical relevance such as cancer and hypertension. Objectives: To compare suicide rates observed in Brazil after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic with the estimated rate based on suicide deaths between 2010 and 2020, and identify sociodemographic variables associated with this outcome. Methods: Ecological time-series study. Data were obtained from Brazilian Unified Health System Department of Information Technology (DATASUS), with the structural break of the data set in March 2020. The number of actual suicides observed and the number of expected suicides if there were no COVID-19 pandemic were analyzed through bayesian structural time series modeling. Results: The overall incidence of suicides in Brazil remained stable after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic compared to what would be expected. However, there was a significant increase in suicide deaths among women (6.9%) and older adult (9.1%). Analysis by macro-regions of the country showed significant increases in suicide deaths in the Center-West (7.4%), Northeast (5.7%), and Southeast (10%). Stratified analyses revealed differences according to age, sex, education, and skin color. Conclusions: Despite stability in the overall number of suicides, this phenomenon occurs heterogeneously among different population groups and regions of Brazil. Rates have increased in populations with a history of poor access to health, which may have been more severely impacted by the pandemic.

Objective: To assess differences in blood inflammatory cytokines between people with alcohol use disorder (AUD) and healthy controls (HC). Methods: Searches were performed from inception through April 14, 2021. Meta-analyses with random-effects models were used to calculate the standardized mean difference ([SMD], 95%CI), and potential sources of heterogeneity were explored trough meta-regressions and subgroup analysis. Results: The meta-analysis included 23 studies on the following 14 cytokines: tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, IL-1, IL-1RA, IL-2, IL-4, IL-5, IL-6, IL-7, IL-8, IL-10, IL-13, IL15, interferon (IFN)-γ and sCD14. There were significantly higher concentrations of IL-6 (n=462 AUD and 408 HC; SMD = 0.523; 95%CI 0.136-0.909; p = 0.008) in AUD than HC. No significant differences were found in the other 13 cytokines. Conclusion: We found that IL-6 levels were significantly higher in individuals with AUD than HC and that other cytokines were not altered. This can be explained by the small number of studies, their methodological heterogeneity, and confounding factors (active use, abstinence, quantity, and physical or psychiatric illnesses, for example). Despite a great deal of evidence about alcohol and inflammatory diseases, studies assessing the role of neuroimmune signaling in the development and severity of AUD are still lacking.

Resumen Contexto: La adolescencia es un período de fragilidad que puede potenciar el surgimiento de crisis y eventos estresantes. Varios factores se han asociado a los problemas de salud mental en el adolescente, siendo la familia un eje fundamental a evaluar, ya que puede presentar factores protectores y de riesgo para el adolescente. Objetivo: Identificar situaciones en el contexto familiar que provocan sufrimiento mental en adolescentes. Método: Se trata de una revisión integradora guiada por las recomendaciones del modelo PRISMA, realizada en las bases de datos PubMed, LILACS y SciELO, con publicaciones de 2014 a 2019, utilizando los descriptores "adolescente", "salud mental" y "relaciones familiares". Resultados: Se incluyeron 19 estudios, con predominio de publicaciones internacionales. Las situaciones en el contexto familiar que se asocian al sufrimiento mental de los adolescentes son el estilo de crianza, el sufrimiento mental de los padres, el conflicto y la violencia intrafamiliar, el abuso de sustancias psicoactivas por parte de los familiares, el divorcio, la migración y el encarcelamiento de los padres. El sufrimiento mental de los adolescentes se evidenció por una serie de síntomas internalizantes y externalizantes, un mayor riesgo de automutilación e intento de suicidio, además del uso nocivo de sustancias psicoactivas. Conclusión: Los resultados obtenidos refuerzan la vulnerabilidad de los adolescentes al sufrimiento mental y señalan la necesidad de desarrollar intervenciones efectivas para enfrentar este importante problema de salud pública, además de fortalecer las redes de apoyo a adolescentes y familias.

Abstract Context: Adolescence is a period of fragility that can potentiate the emergence of stressful events and crises. Several factors have been associated with mental health problems in adolescents, being the family, a fundamental axis to be evaluated, as it may present protective and risk factors for the adolescent. Objective: To identify situations in the family context that cause mental suffering in adolescents. Method: This is an integrative review guided by the recommendations of the PRISMA model, carried out in the databases PubMed, LILACS and SciELO, with publications from 2014 to 2019, using the descriptors "adolescent", "mental health" and "family relations". Results: 19 studies were included, with predominance of international publications. The situations in the family context that are associated with the mental suffering of adolescents are the parenting style, the parents' mental suffering, conflict and intrafamily violence, abuse of psychoactive substances by family members, divorce, migration and parental incarceration. The adolescents' mental suffering was evidenced by a series of internalizing and externalizing symptoms, an increased risk of self-mutilation and attempted suicide in addition to the harmful use of psychoactive substances. Conclusion: The results obtained reinforce the vulnerability of adolescents to mental suffering and point to the need to develop effective interventions to deal with this important public health problem, in addition to strengthening support networks for adolescents and families.

Resumo Contexto: A adolescência é um período de fragilidade que pode potencializar o surgimento de eventos estressores e crises. Diversos fatores têm sido associados a problemas de saúde mental no adolescente, sendo a família, um eixo fundamental a ser avaliado, pois pode apresentar fatores de proteção e risco para o adolescente. Objetivo: Identificar situações do contexto familiar que ocasionam sofrimento mental em adolescentes. Método: Trata-se de uma revisão integrativa norteada pelas recomendações do modelo PRISMA, realizada nas bases de dados PubMed, LILACS e SciELO, com publicações de 2014 a 2019, utilizando os descritores “adolescent”, “mental health” e “family relations”. Resultados: Foram incluídos 19 estudos, predominando publicações internacionais. As situações do contexto familiar que se associam ao sofrimento mental de adolescentes são o estilo parental, sofrimento mental dos pais, conflito e violência intrafamiliar, abuso de substâncias psicoativas por familiares, divórcio, migração e encarceramento parental. O sofrimento mental dos adolescentes foi evidenciado por uma série de sintomas internalizantes e externalizantes, risco aumentado de automutilação e tentativa de suicídio, além do uso nocivo de substâncias psicoativas. Conclusão: Os resultados obtidos reforçam a vulnerabilidade dos adolescentes ao sofrimento mental e apontam a necessidade de desenvolver intervenções eficazes no enfrentamento desse importante problema de saúde pública além do fortalecimento das redes de apoio aos adolescentes e famílias.
