Introduction: The healthcare system is structured to prioritize Primary Health Care (PHC) as the main gateway for accessing care while reserving emergency services for situations requiring immediate attention. However, people's choices often deviate from what one would expect based on their health needs, leading to overburdened emergency services and reduced clinical care effectiveness and efficiency. Objective: This study aims to identify the motivations behind non-urgent health issues leading users to seek care at an emergency department. Method: A qualitative study involving semi-structured interviews was conducted in 2019 with users of an emergency department in Vitória-ES. The collected data underwent thematic analysis. Results: The study included 29 participants, predominantly women, of Black or mixed race, and under 30 years old, who reported issues related to pain or respiratory problems. Notably, participants perceived emergency services as places where they could readily obtain immediate and effective care. Accessing PHC was seen as challenging, and they anticipated that their needs (appointments, tests, medications) would not be promptly met within PHC. Conclusion: Utilizing emergency services for non-urgent concerns is a multifaceted and complex public health problem that extends beyond PHC access difficulties to encompass individual and collective understanding of PHC's role and emergency care. Merely expanding PHC is insufficient; reframing this level care is essential, particularly among younger individuals.

Introdução: o sistema de saúde é organizado de uma forma que prevê a Atenção Primária à Saúde (APS) como a porta de entrada preferencial para o cuidado, destinando-se os serviços de emergência para situações que exigem atendimento imediato. Contudo, o caminho percorrido pelas pessoas nem sempre reflete o que se esperaria pelo perfil de sua necessidade de saúde, resultando em sobrecarga e baixa efetividade e eficiência dos serviços de emergência. Objetivo: identificar motivações para uso pronto-atendimentos por problemas de saúde não urgentes em usuários deste serviço. Método: estudo qualitativo baseado em entrevistas semiestruturadas realizadas em 2019 com usuários de um pronto-atendimento do município de Vitória-ES. Os dados foram submetidos à análise temática derivada da análise de conteúdo. Resultados: Participaram 29 pessoas, sendo a maioria mulheres, negras ou pardas, com menos de 30 anos, queixando-se de dor ou problema respiratório. Observou-se, dentre outras coisas, que os entrevistados percebem os serviços urgência e emergência como aqueles onde obterão cuidados imediatos com maior facilidade e resolubilidade, já que é difícil acessar a APS e nela muito provavelmente não terão tudo aquilo que consideram necessário para manejar seu problema (consulta, exames e medicações) de uma maneira imediata, rápida e resolutiva. Conclusão: A utilização de pronto-atendimentos por motivos não urgentes é uma questão complexa. Envolve não apenas a dificuldade de acesso à APS, mas a própria compreensão individual e coletiva do papel da APS e do pronto-atendimento. Não basta, portanto, expandir a APS, mas é preciso também ressignificá-la, em especial junto aos mais jovens.

RESUMEN: Las proteínas S100 pertenecen al grupo de proteínas fijadoras de calcio y están presentes en actividades reguladoras fisiológicas intracelulares y extracelulares, como la diferenciación celular, y actúan en procesos patológicos inflamatorios y neoplásicos. Recientemente, sus expresiones en el sistema nervioso han sido ampliamente estudiadas, buscando dilucidar su acción a nivel del tálamo: una estructura del sistema nervioso central que forma parte de importantes circuitos, como el somatosensorial, conductual, de memoria y cognitivo, así como además de ser responsable de la transmisión y regulación de la información a la corteza cerebral. Este artículo es una revisión integradora de la literatura científica, que analizó 12 estudios presentes en Pubmed. El análisis mostró que la relación de las proteínas S100 y el tálamo ha sido descrita en procesos neoplásicos, trastornos mentales, hipoxia, trauma, estrés, infección, enfermedad de Parkinson y epilepsia. En resumen, es posible concluir que esta familia de proteínas es relevante como marcador en procesos de lesión talámica, requiriendo más estudios para comprender mejor su significado clínico, preclínico y su valor pronóstico.

SUMMARY: S100 proteins belong group of calcium-binding proteins and are present in physiological intracellular and extracellular regulatory activities, such as cell differentiation, and act in inflammatory and neoplastic pathological processes. Recently, its expressions in the nervous system have been extensively studied, seeking to elucidate its action at the level of the thalamus: A structure of the central nervous system that is part of important circuits, such as somatosensory, behavioral, memory and cognitive, as well as being responsible for the transmission and regulation of information to the cerebral cortex. This article is an integrative review of scientific literature, which analyzed 12 studies present in Pubmed. The analysis showed that the relationship of S100 proteins and the thalamus has been described in neoplastic processes, mental disorders, hypoxia, trauma, stress, infection, Parkinson's disease and epilepsy. In summary, it is possible to conclude that this protein family is relevant as a marker in processes of thalamic injury, requiring further studies to better understand its clinical, preclinical meanings and its prognostic value.

The aim of this work was to identify and quantify the metabolites present in the roots of Combretum lanceolatum inoculated with its endophytic fungi. The metabolomics was accomplished using the 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectral data and evaluated via rNMR software and Madison Metabolomics Consortium Database (MMCD). The principal component analysis (PCA) and partial least squares-discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) showed that plants inoculated with Trichoderma spirale (Ts) present differentiation and discrimination over the time compared to control. Seven days after Ts fungal inoculation, 15 metabolites were identified at different concentrations comparing to the control plants. The plants inoculated with Ts fungus present the metabolites spermidine and pantothenate in higher concentrations and 3-hydroxybutyric acid and b-alanine in lower concentrations compared to control plants, indicating any response to biotic stress. These metabolites are involved in various plant processes, including secondary metabolites biosynthesis, energy metabolism and self-defense. Therefore, this work demonstrates the diversification of primary metabolites composition influenced by endophytes inoculation.

ABSTRACT. Selection practices are maximized when plant breeders have the availability of consolidated parameters, which will guide direct and indirect selection methods. This study aimed to apply a biometric alternative to minimize residual variance and maximize selection parameters by parent-progeny regression, interim controls, and mixed linear models intrinsic to breeding. The obtained data were subjected to the assumptions of the statistical model, which identified the normality and homogeneity of the residual variances and model additivity. Subsequently, two analysis scenarios were created. The first preserved all information obtained in the experiment, both from segregating families and pure-line cultivars, and was called original scenario. The other scenario preserved progeny data, but the residual variability of controls was restricted using as criterion observations contained between the interval of the first sample standard deviation. Thereby, an acceptable residue limit could be obtained. Both scenarios were submitted to three consolidated frequentist methods (genitor-progeny regression; sum of squares of augmented block design with interim controls; and mixed linear models, wherein random genetic effects are taken as weighted genetic parameters by the genealogical matrix). Restricting residual variation in parents or controls can maximize genetic parameters and genetic gains in soybean breeding. Significant heritability estimate gains were obtained in the augmented blocks with interim control approach. Mixed linear models with random genetic effects can be considered a great tool to obtain genetic parameters in experiments with a high magnitude of common and regular treatments.

Resumen Objetivo: analizar la percepción de los usuarios de las redes sociales sobre el uso de sistemas de IA en el campo de la salud y aspectos bioéticos asociados a este uso. Método: método mixto, del tipo descriptivo-exploratorio. El camino metodológico se dividió en dos etapas: (1) recopilación de información sobre los principales aspectos bioéticos involucrados en el uso de la IA y (2) elaboración de escenarios para la toma de decisiones. Los datos cuantitativos se analizaron mediante estadística descriptiva para caracterizar la muestra desde el punto de vista sociodemográfico, así como para caracterizar el perfil de toma de decisiones de la muestra con respecto a cuestiones bioéticas asociadas al uso de sistemas de IA. El análisis de datos cualitativos se realizó utilizando el análisis de contenido de Bardin. Resultados: en el perfil sociodemográfico se observa una muestra de mujeres adultas con título universitario. En cuanto a las preocupaciones éticas asociadas a los escenarios aplicados, las principales preocupaciones fueron en primer lugar la privacidad y confidencialidad de los datos, seguidas de las preocupaciones relacionadas con la responsabilidad asociada al uso de estas tecnologías, así como el consentimiento informado. Conclusión: De esta forma, se destaca la importancia de nuevos estudios empíricos exploratorios como este, que evalúen la percepción, actitudes y opiniones de públicos especializados, como profesionales de la salud, derecho, humanidades, con el fin de obtener evidencias concretas para el desarrollo. de programas de gestión y gobernanza de los sistemas de IA, especialmente en el escenario brasileño, donde los recursos son escasos.

Abstract Objective: to analyze the perception of users of social networks regarding the use of AI systems in the field of health and the bioethical aspects associated with this use. Method: Mixed method study, of the descriptive-exploratory type. The methodological path was divided into two stages: (1) gathering information about the main bioethical aspects involved in the use of AI and (2) elaboration of decision-making scenarios. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics in order to characterize the sample from a sociodemographic point of view, as well as to characterize the sample's decision-making profile regarding bioethical issues associated with the use of AI systems. Qualitative data analysis was performed using Bardin's content analysis. Results: with regard to the sociodemographic profile, a sample of female adults with a university degree can be observed. With regard to the ethical concerns associated with the applied scenarios, the main concerns were in the first place the privacy and confidentiality of the data, followed by concerns related to the responsibility associated with the use of these technologies, as well as informed consent. Conclusion: In this way, the importance of new exploratory empirical studies like this one is highlighted, evaluating the perception, attitudes and opinions of specialized audiences, such as professionals in the health, law, humanities, in order to obtain concrete evidence to the development of management and governance programs for AI systems, especially in the Brazilian scenario, where resources are scarce.

Resumo Objetivo: analisar a percepção de usuários de redes sociais a respeito da utilização de sistemas de IA no campo da saúde e os aspectos bioéticos associados a essa utilização. Método: Estudo de método mistos, do tipo descritivo-exploratório. O percurso metodológico foi dividido em duas etapas: (1) levantamento de informação a respeito dos principais aspectos bioéticos envolvidos na utilização de IA e (2) elaboração dos cenários de tomada de decisão. Os dados quantitativos foram analisados por meio de estatística descritiva a fim de caracterizar a amostra do ponto de vista sociodemográfico, bem como caracterizar o perfil de tomada de decisão da amostra com relação às questões bioéticas associadas à utilização de sistemas de IA. A análise dos dados qualitativos foi realizada por meio da análise de conteúdo de Bardin. Resultados: com relação ao perfil sociodemográfico pode-se observar uma amostra de adultos, do sexo feminino, com curso superior completo. Com relação às preocupados éticas associadas aos cenários aplicados, as principais preocupações foram em primeiro lugar a privacidade e confidencialidade dos dados, seguido de preocupações relacionadas à responsabilidade associada a utilização destas tecnologias, bem como ao consentimento informado. Conclusão: Desta forma, destaca-se a importância de novos estudos empíricos exploratórios como este, avaliando a percepção, atitudes e opiniões de públicos especializados, como profissionais da área da saúde, do direito, das humanidades, a fim de se obter evidências concretas para a elaboração de programas de gestão e governança dos sistemas de IA, sobretudo no cenário brasileiro, de escassez de recursos.

Resum Objectiu: analitzar la percepció dels usuaris de les xarxes socials sobre l'ús de sistemes d'IA al camp de la salut i els aspectes bioètics associats a aquest ús. Mètode: Estudi de mètode mixt, del tipus descriptiu-exploratori. El camí metodològic es va dividir en dues etapes: (1) recopilació d'informació sobre els aspectes bioètics principals involucrats en l'ús de la IA i (2) elaboració d'escenaris per a la presa de decisions. Les dades quantitatives es van analitzar mitjançant estadística descriptiva per caracteritzar la mostra des del punt de vista sociodemogràfic, així com per caracteritzar el perfil de presa de decisions de la mostra pel que fa a qüestions bioètiques associades a l'ús de sistemes d'IA. L'anàlisi de dades qualitatives es va fer utilitzant l'anàlisi de contingut de Bardin. Resultats: quant al perfil sociodemogràfic, es pot observar una mostra de dones adultes amb títol universitari. Pel que fa a les preocupacions ètiques associades als escenaris aplicats, les principals preocupacions van ser en primer lloc la privadesa i confidencialitat de les dades, seguides de les preocupacions relacionades amb la responsabilitat associada a l'ús d'aquestes tecnologies, així com el consentiment informat. Conclusió: D'aquesta manera, es destaca la importància de nous estudis empírics exploratoris com aquest, que avaluïn la percepció, actituds i opinions de públics especialitzats, com a professionals de la salut, dret, humanitats, per tal d'obtenir evidències concretes per al desenvolupament . programes de gestió i governança dels sistemes d'IA, especialment a l'escenari brasiler, on els recursos són escassos.

RESUMO Objetivo: identificar ocorrência de surto compatível com escorbuto e fatores de exposição associados aos sinais/sintomas típicos de hipovitaminose, em penitenciária masculina, Ceará, Brasil, 2019-2020. Métodos: estudo de caso-controle populacional; foram utilizados registros clínicos e entrevistas com casos compatíveis - sinais/sintomas iniciados no período - e com controles; realizou-se análise multivariável. Resultados: 62 casos; idade média de 40,6 anos (DP = 10,8); principais sinais/sintomas foram edema e dor em membros inferiores (100,0%), dificuldade para deambular (91,9%), hematoma/equimose em membros inferiores (90,3%), febre (88,7%); identificou-se, como fator de exposição, média de idade > 40 anos (ORa = 1,10; IC95% 1,05;1,17; p-valor = 0,001); e como fatores protetores, trabalho (ORa = 0,11; IC95% 0,03;0,36; p-valor < 0,001) e participação em aulas (ORa = 0,21; IC95% 0,08;0,59; p-valor = 0,003) dentro da penitenciária. Conclusão: surto da penitenciária compatível com escorbuto pelos sinais/sintomas característicos, associados aos fatores identificados; recomendou-se oferta regular de dieta rica em vitamina C para todos os internos e acompanhamento clínico dos casos.

RESUMEN Objetivo: identificar la ocurrencia del brote compatible con escorbuto y los factores de exposición asociados con signos/síntomas típicos de hipovitaminosis que ocurrieron en una penitenciaría masculina en Ceará, Brasil entre 2019-2020. Métodos: estudio poblacional de casos y controles; se utilizaron historias clínicas y entrevistas con casos compatibles, con inicio de signos/síntomas durante el período de estudio, y controles; se realizó análisis multivariable. Resultados: de los 62 casos, edad media fue 40,6 años (DE = 10,8); principales signos/síntomas fueron edema y dolor en miembros inferiores (100,0%), dificultad para caminar (91,9%), hematoma/equimosis en miembros inferiores (90,3%) y fiebre (88,7%); la edad mayor de 40 años se identificó como factor asociado (ORa = 1,10; IC95% 1,05;1,17; p-valor = 0,001); y como factores protectores: trabajo (ORa = 0,11; IC95% 0,03;0,36; p-valor < 0,001) y participación en clases (ORa = 0,21; IC95% 0,08;0,59; p-valor = 0,003) dentro del centro penitenciario. Conclusión: el brote en centro penitenciario fue considerado compatible con escorbuto debido a los signos/síntomas característicos, asociados a los factores identificados; se recomendó oferta regular de dieta rica en vitamina C a todos los internos y seguimiento clínico de los casos.

ABSTRACT Objective: to identify the occurrence of an outbreak compatible with scurvy and exposure factors associated with typical signs/symptoms of hypovitaminosis that occurred in a male penitentiary in Ceará, Brazil between 2019-2020. Methods: this was a population-based case-control study; we used clinical records and interviews with compatible cases - based on sign/symptom onset during the study period - and with controls; we carried out multivariate analysis. Results: out of 62 cases, mean age was 40.6 years (SD = 10.8); main signs/symptoms were edema and pain in the lower limbs (100.0%), difficulty in walking (91.9%), hematoma/ecchymosis in the lower limbs (90.3%) and fever (88.7%); we identified being over 40 years old as an associated factor (aOR = 1.10; 95%CI 1.05;1.17; p-value = 0.001); and as protective factors: working (aOR = 0.11; 95%CI 0.03;0.36; p-value < 0.001) and taking part in classes (aOR = 0.21; 95%CI 0.08;0.59; p-value = 0.003) in the prison. Conclusion: we considered the penitentiary outbreak to be compatible with scurvy due to characteristic signs/symptoms, associated with the identified factors; we recommended regular provision of a diet rich in vitamin C to all male inmates and clinical follow-up of cases.

ABSTRACT Objective To analyze the karyotype test and myeloid panel with next-generation sequencing findings in patients with myelofibrosis, and to compare transplant characteristics in patients referred for bone marrow transplantation. Methods Retrospective, single-center study with patients diagnosed with myelofibrosis treated at Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein between 2010 and 2020. Results A total of 104 patients with myelofibrosis were examined. Patients who had not been submitted to tests in our service were excluded. The final sample comprised 69 patients. Of these 69, 56 were submitted to karyotyping and 22 to myeloid panel with next-generation sequencing. Karyotype was normal in 60% of the patients and altered in 40%. The prevalence of high-risk molecular mutations was higher in patients referred for bone marrow transplantation (100% versus 50%). The median follow-up of transplant patients was 2.4 years and the overall survival at 2 years was 80% (95%CI: 62-100%). Conclusion The molecular analysis enables estimating the patient’s risk and thus instituting more aggressive treatment such as bone marrow transplant for patients at higher risk, being a relevant tool to guide therapy. Given the significance of molecular analysis for therapeutic decision-making in myelofibrosis, collection and disclosure of data on the prevalence of cytogenetic changes and findings of next-generation sequencing in affected patients is important.

ABSTRACT Objective: to verify the association between sociodemographic variables, obstetric history, current pregnancy, and puerperium with breastfeeding self-efficacy. Method: cross-sectional study conducted in southwestern Maranhão, Brazil, between October 2020 and July 2021 with the participation of 240 postpartum women, using the Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale - Short Form. Descriptive analysis, possible associations, simple and multiple logistic regression models were performed. Results: 83.3% had high breastfeeding self-efficacy, 46.7% were between 26 and 35 years old, 81.2% were married or in a stable union, 94.2% breastfed in the first hour of life, 37.9% received orientation on breastfeeding in the Primary Health Care Unit, and 84.2% offered only breast milk to the newborn in the maternity hospital. These factors were associated with high breastfeeding self-efficacy (p<0.05). Conclusion: The research contributed to guide health professionals to provide superior quality care to pregnant and postpartum women and lactating mothers, aiming to increase breastfeeding self-efficacy, identifying, among these women, those who need more support.

RESUMEN Objetivo: verificar la asociación entre las variables sociodemográficas, los antecedentes obstétricos, la gestación actual y el puerperio con la autoeficacia en amamantar. Método: estudio transversal, realizado en el sudoeste maranhense de Brasil, entre los meses de octubre de 2020 a julio de 2021 con la participación de 240 puérperas, utilizando el Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale - Short Form. Se realizaron análisis descriptivos, posibles asociaciones y modelos de regresión logística simple y múltiple. Resultados: El 83,3% mostró una alta autoeficacia para la lactancia materna, el 46,7% tenía entre 26 y 35 años, el 81,2% estaba casada o en unión estable, el 94,2% dio el pecho en la primera hora de vida, el 37,9% recibió orientación sobre la lactancia materna en la Unidad de Atención Primaria y el 84,2% ofreció sólo leche materna al recién nacido en la maternidad, asociándose estos factores con una alta autoeficacia para la lactancia materna (p<0,05). Conclusión: la investigación contribuyó a orientar a los profesionales de la salud a prestar asistencia de calidad superior a gestantes, puérperas y lactantes, con el objetivo de aumentar la autoeficacia en el amamantamiento, identificando, entre estas mujeres, a las que necesitan un mayor apoyo.

Conclusão: a pesquisa contribuiu para orientar os profissionais de saúde a prestar assistência de qualidade superior à gestante, puérpera e lactante, com o objetivo de aumentar a autoeficácia em amamentar, identificando, dentre tais mulheres, àquelas que necessitam de maior apoio.

Abstract Background Major advances have been seen in techniques and devices for performing percutaneous coronary interventions (PCIs) for chronic total occlusions (CTOs), but there are limited real-world practice data from developing countries. Objectives To report clinical and angiographic characteristics, procedural aspects, and clinical outcomes of CTO PCI performed at dedicated centers in Brazil. Methods Included patients underwent CTO PCI at centers participating in the LATAM CTO Registry, a Latin American multicenter registry dedicated to prospective collection of these data. Inclusion criteria were procedures performed in Brazil, age 18 years or over, and presence of CTO with PCI attempt. CTO was defined as a 100% lesion in an epicardial coronary artery, known or estimated to have lasted at least 3 months. Results Data on 1196 CTO PCIs were included. Procedures were performed primarily for angina control (85%) and/or treatment of moderate/severe ischemia (24%). Technical success rate was 84%, being achieved with antegrade wire approaches in 81% of procedures, antegrade dissection and re-entry in 9%, and retrograde approaches in 10%. In-hospital adverse cardiovascular events occurred in 2.3% of cases, with a mortality rate of 0.75%. Conclusions CTOs can be treated effectively in Brazil by using PCI, with low complication rates. The scientific and technological development observed in this area in the past decade is reflected in the clinical practice of dedicated Brazilian centers.

Resumo Fundamento Tem sido observado um grande avanço nas técnicas e nos dispositivos para a realização de intervenções coronárias percutâneas (ICP) em oclusões totais coronarianas crônicas (OTC), mas existem poucos dados da prática do mundo real em países em desenvolvimento. Objetivos Relatar as características clínicas e angiográficas, os aspectos dos procedimentos e os resultados clínicos da ICP de OTC em centros dedicados a esse procedimento no Brasil. Métodos Os pacientes incluídos foram submetidos à ICP de OTC em centros participantes do LATAM CTO Registry, um registro multicêntrico latino-americano dedicado à coleta prospectiva desses dados. Os critérios de inclusão foram procedimentos realizados no Brasil, idade acima de 18 anos e presença de OTC com tentativa de ICP. A definição de OTC foi lesão de 100% em uma artéria coronária epicárdica, conhecida ou estimada como tendo pelo menos 3 meses de evolução. Resultados Foram incluídos dados de 1.196 ICPs de OTC. Os procedimentos foram realizados principalmente para controle da angina (85%) e/ou tratamento de uma grande área isquêmica (24%). A taxa de sucesso técnico foi de 84% e foi alcançada com técnicas de fios anterógrados em 81%, dissecção/reentrada anterógrada em 9% e retrógrada em 10% dos procedimentos. Os eventos cardiovasculares adversos intra-hospitalares ocorreram em 2,3% dos casos, sendo a mortalidade de 0,75%. Conclusões As OTC podem ser tratadas no Brasil por intervenção coronária percutânea de forma efetiva e com baixas taxas de complicações. O desenvolvimento científico e tecnológico observado nessa área na última década reflete-se na prática clínica de centros brasileiros dedicados a essa técnica.

ABSTRACT Sweet sorghum has been shown to be an alternative for ethanol production in several regions. Because it is sexually propagated, the use of quality seeds becomes an important factor for obtaining an adequate plant stand and, consequently, good productivity. Thus, the objective was to evaluate the production and physiological maturation of seeds of sweet sorghum cv. BRS 511, in response to the interval between irrigations during the reproductive period and harvesting period. Two experiments were carried out in a greenhouse, the experimental design adopted was in randomized blocks, with four replications in a 3 x 2 split-plot scheme, corresponding to three intervals between irrigations during the reproductive stage (0; 4 and 8 days) and two harvest times (102 and 110 days after sowing). The following parameters were evaluated from the harvested panicles: number of seeds, weight of one thousand seeds, water content, germination, first germination count, emergence in sand and emergence speed, electrical conductivity and seedling vigor. The production of seeds per panicle and the weight of a thousand seeds were significantly influenced by the increase in the interval between irrigations in the 2nd experiment, with a reduction of 50.4 and 46.3%, respectively. Water replacement every eight days caused a reduction of up to 43.4% in the first germination count and 16.3% in germination. The production and quality of sweet sorghum seeds reduces as a function of the increase in the interval between irrigations and the harvesting time, presenting germination rates below the required for commercialization.

SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the quality of life of patients with endometriosis before and after surgical treatment. METHODS: An observational, longitudinal, and prospective study was conducted with 102 women with pelvic pain and endometriosis that was unimproved by clinical treatment and indicated for surgical treatment. The patients’ quality of life was assessed using the 30-item Endometriosis Health Profile (EHP-30) questionnaire before and 3 and 6 months after surgery. The statistical tests were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 17.0, and the Friedman test was used. RESULTS: There was a reduction in EHP-30 scores 3 and 6 months after surgery compared to before surgery, as well as 6 months after surgery compared to 3 months after surgery, in the central questionnaire (PART 1) and in Sections A, B, C, E, and F (p<0.0001). For Section D, there was a reduction in scores 6 months after surgery compared to before surgery (p<0.0001). CONCLUSION: Surgical treatment of endometriosis improves quality of life in several areas assessed by the EHP-30 questionnaire.

ABSTRACT Popularly known as araçá-una, Psidium myrtoides is an endemic tree species in Brazil, with fruits much appreciated by the fauna. It is indicated for the composition of reforestation and for enriching the vegetation of degraded areas. This work aimed to evaluate the effects of drought, heat, and the interaction of both in the physiological attributes of Psidium myrtoides plants. Monitored fluorescence, gas exchange, and chlorophyll index in araçá-una plants induced by drought, heat, and the combination of both during 1, 3, and 7 days after treatment induction (DAT). After, the plants were returned to their initial condition, and their recovery was evaluated at 15 DAT. The results indicate that Psidium myrtoides plants reduce photosynthetic activity in the absence of water, contrary to what has been shown in other studies; in addition, they are not potentiated by the combination with heat. Therefore, we conclude that this species has a potential tolerance to heat (Tmean 30.3 °C). However, if water is available in the soil, it maintains photosynthetic activity at normal levels.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate whether the addition of the enzymes phytase and xylanase, isolated or associated, in the liquid form after feed pelletization could improve energy utilization and digestibility of calcium and phosphorus by broiler chickens. Three experiments were performed using 120 birds each, divided into five treatments with eight replicates per group (n = 3), identified as: experiment 1 (xylanase: control, 1000 IU, 1500 IU, 2000 IU, 2500 IU), experiment 2 (phytase: control, 500 FTU, 1000 FTU, 1500 FTU, 2000 FTU), experiment 3 (xylanase + phytase: control, 3000 IU + 500 FTU, 3000 IU + 1000 FTU, 3000 IU + 1500 FTU, 3000 IU + 2000 FTU). Samples for digestibility tests were collected at 14 to 21 days of age. Therefore, the inclusion of liquid phytase and liquid phytase + xylanase after pelletization in broiler diets has become a relevant way to reduce the inclusion of inorganic P, which can reduce the cost of feed and P excretion in the environment. Furthermore, it is an interesting strategy to avoid enzyme denaturation in the pelleting process.

Abstract Identifying genome regions subject to selection in local breeds of Brazil is an opportunity to elucidate the C. hircus genome plasticity, flowing the colonization history of the country. Using SNP Bead Chip Illumina 50K genotyping of Brazilian Anglo-Nubian (standardized breed) and Marota (local endangered population from the semiarid area of Brazil) to show outliers loci in genome regions subject to selection. After applying data quality control, 45,600 SNPs were included in this investigation. Principal component analysis (PCAdapt) and FDIST2 analysis signalized 14 genomic regions more affected by selection in the Brazilian dry zone environment. The genome study signalized regions that are close to the sequences of genes related to growth and embryonic skeletal development (FGF12, AMPD2, OSTN). In addition, flagged regions close to the genes UTSB2 and SLC5A2 contribute to research on functional adaptation with low water needs and poor nutritive diet to survive. Both genes encode proteins that act on osmotic pathways and avoid cell flooding on stress cell responses. Further studies on the genetic role and involvement of these outliers’ genomic regions, building a robust conceptual high-resolution map of natural selection drives, help to achieve hardiness candidate genes linked to the evolutionary history of Capra hircus in the semiarid area of Brazil.
