RESUMO Este estudo avaliou as correlações de diferentes características de mudas, no viveiro, de três clones híbridos de Eucalyptus grandis × Eucalyptus urophylla e o crescimento em altura após o plantio. A característica que apresentou maior correlação com o crescimento inicial foi a relação entre o comprimento da copa e a altura da muda. Aos 12 e 24 meses no campo, o diâmetro do caule foi mais importante. Os parâmetros avaliados no viveiro que se correlacionaram positivamente com o crescimento no campo aos três e seis meses após o plantio foram altura, número de pares de folhas, número de deformações radiculares e comprimento de torrão. Aos 12 e 24 meses os parâmetros que se correlacionaram negativamente foram diâmetro, número de pares de folhas e número de deformações radiculares. Apesar de apresentar correlação significativa, as deformações das raízes não interferiram no crescimento inicial das plantas sob condições de alta pluviosidade, mas os efeitos se tornaram prejudiciais ao longo do tempo, resultando em uma redução no crescimento das plantas.

ABSTRACT This study assessed correlations of different characteristics of cuttings in the nursery of three hybrid clones of Eucalyptus grandis × Eucalyptus urophylla and growth in height after planting. The characteristic that presented greatest correlation with the initial growth was the canopy height and cutting height ratio. At 12 and 24 months in the field, the stem diameter was more important. The parameters assessed in the nursery that correlated positively with growth in the field at three and six months after planting were height, number of leaf pairs, number of root deformations and clod length. At 12 and 24 months the parameters that correlated negatively were diameter, number of leaf pairs and the number of root deformations. Despite presenting significant correlation, root deformations did not interfere in the initial growth of the plants under high rainfall conditions, but the effects became harmful over time resulting in a reduction in plant growth.

RESUMO O presente trabalho objetivou identificar as principais variáveis afetadas por fatores naturais e, ou, antrópicos, que influenciam a qualidade da água superficial em microbacias hidrográficas, manejadas para produção de madeira de eucalipto. A qualidade da água foi monitorada em quatro microbacias localizadas no município de Aracruz, norte do ES, Brasil. Para tanto, analisaram-se as características físicas e químicas, bem como a potencial presença na água de agrotóxicos utilizados no manejo florestal. As coletas foram realizadas após as atividades silviculturais e/ou ocorrência de chuvas entre os meses de janeiro e junho de 2012. Foram utilizadas técnicas de componentes principais e análise fatorial para determinar as variáveis mais sensíveis e correlacionadas com as atividades silviculturais e com as condições edafoclimáticas das microbacias. De forma geral, 4 componentes explicaram 73,1% da variância total. Os componentes foram correlacionados com as variáveis analisadas e definidos como fatores: mineral, sólido, acidez e pedológico. Estes fatores explicaram 31,6; 18,5; 15,6; e 7,4% da variância total dos dados e estão diretamente relacionados com a salinidade, a presença de sólidos suspensos, a acidez e o teor de carbono inorgânico do solo, respectivamente. Não foi observada presença dos agrotóxicos sulfluramida (inseticida) e glifosato (herbicida) em todas as avaliações realizadas. Em geral, é possível reduzir de 30 para 12 as variáveis que devem ser monitoradas para predição da qualidade da água, mantendo pelo menos 70% da precisão das estimativas.

ABSTRACT This work aimed to identify the main variables affected by natural factors and, or anthropic, which influence the quality of surface water in watersheds, managed for eucalyptus wood production. Water quality was monitored in four watersheds located in Aracruz, northern ES state, Brazil. The physical and chemical characteristics of the water and the potential presence of pesticides used in forest management were evaluated. Samples were collected after the silvicultural activities and, or, rainfall between the months of January to June 2012. Principal component and factor analysis techniques were used to determine the water variables most sensitive and correlated with forestry activities, soil and climatic conditions of the study watersheds. It was possible to obtain four components that explained 73.1% of the total variance. The components were correlated with the variables and defined as factors mineral, solid, acidity, and pedological. These factors explained 31.6; 18.5; 15.6; and 7.4% of the total variance of the data which are directly related to salinity, the presence of suspended solids, acidity and the inorganic carbon content of the soil, respectively. Sulfluramid (insecticide) and glyphosate (herbicide) were not found. In general, it is possible to reduce from 30 to 12 variables that should be monitored for prediction of water quality, maintaining at least 70% of the precision of the estimates. The evaluation of these key variables allows establishing an adequate monitoring system of water quality considering the eucalyptus forestry activities.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to identify eucalyptus clones for the production of sawed timber based on dendrometric variables and longitudinal residual deformation (LRD), analyzing the correlation between these characteristics. 20 Eucalyptus grandis x Eucalyptus urophylla clones with 13 years of age were analyzed. The crown size, diameter at breast height (DBH) and bark thickness were measured. There was a significant difference between the clones for DBH, LRD and bark thickness. There was no significant correlation between DBH and DRL. The correlation was significant between DBH and crown size, its being possible to affirm that crown size affects the diametrical growth of trees. DBH and bark thickness were also significantly correlated, in so far as trees with a wider diameter possess thicker bark. It was possible to select clones with better potential for sawed timber production, that is to say, elevated DBH with a reduced LRD.

Sabe-se da existência de influência do local de crescimento nas propriedades da madeira e que estas são influenciadas principalmente pela sua estrutura anatômica. Este trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar parâmetros quantitativos da estrutura anatômica da madeira de eucalipto de um clone de híbrido natural de Eucalyptus grandis W. Hill ex-Maiden, ocorrentes na localidade de Rio Claro-SP, com 64 meses de idade. As 138 árvores foram cultivadas nos os municípios de Aracruz, Domingos Martins, Alto Rio Novo e São Mateus - ES e Mutum e Aimorés - MG. Os parâmetros anatômicos mensurados foram o diâmetro e a frequência vascular, o comprimento, a largura, o diâmetro do lume e a espessura da parede das fibras e ainda a altura, largura e frequência de raios. De acordo com os resultados obtidos pode-se concluir que relativo aos vasos houve diferenças significativas entre as regiões. Quanto aos raios, também foram verificadas diferenças significativas relativas à altura, largura e frequência diversas regiões. As madeiras produzidas na região de Aracruz possuem fibras de comprimento e espessura de paredes muito inferiores às produzidas nas demais regiões estudadas.

It is known the influence of the growth place in the properties of the woods and that they are affected mainly by the anatomical structures. The objective of this work was to evaluate the quantitative parameters of the anatomical structure of the eucalypt wood of one clone of the natural hybrid of Eucalyptus grandis at 64 months of age occuring in Rio Claro, state of São Paulo. The 138 trees were grown in Aracruz, Domingos Martins, Alto Rio Novo, São Mateus in the state of Espírito Santo and in Mutum and Aimorés in the state of Minas Gerais. The anatomical parameters measured were diameter and vessel frequency, length, fiber and diameter of the fiber, fiber wall thickness and width, height and frequency of the rays. According to the results, it can be concluded that, in relation to the vessels, there were significant differences among all regions. It was also observed significant differences in the parameters related to the rays in all regions. The wood produced in the Aracruz region had fibers with length and wall thickness with a much lower quality than the wood in the other studied regions.

Características oligogênicas de distribuição discreta e expressão governada por poucos genes de maior efeito têm se mostrado importantes na condução dos programas de melhoramento, com destaque para a resposta de resistência das plantas às doenças. Métodos tradicionais de detecção de QTL's, que pressupõem normalidade e herança governada por múltiplos fatores, não deveriam ser utilizados para mapeamento dessas características de distribuição discreta e interação epistática predominante. O objetivo deste trabalho é avaliar os resultados de um método para mapeamento e detecção de locos controladores da expressão de características oligogênicas, OTL's (Oligogenic Trait Loci). Esse método, definido como MMCO (Método de Mapeamento de Características Oligogênicas), utiliza funções de verossimilhança para obtenção de estimativas de ligação fatorial entre locos marcadores e locos controladores de características oligogênicas. Os resultados indicam que o método foi adequado para detecção de OTL's em populações F2 relativamente pequenas, compostas por 200 indivíduos, e que a determinação a priori do padrão de herança é condição necessária para a utilização dessa estratégia, que se diferencia por atender as pressuposições de análise, não necessitar de informação prévia de ordenamento entre as marcas e por permitir a obtenção de estimativas a partir da informação contida em todas as classes genotípicas.

Oligogenic traits are distinguished by their heritage ruled by higher effect genes and by their importance for cultivated plants, with emphasis to the plant disease resistance inheritance. The qualitative nature and epistatic interaction of these traits results in a heritage pattern that should not be interpreted through traditional QTL detection strategies. The objective of this work was to propose a method for Oligogenic Traits Loci (OTL) detection. This method, defined as Oligogenic Trait Mapping Method (OTMM) uses maximum likehood probability functions to obtain adjusted "r" estimates that express the distance among the molecular markers and the OTL loci. The results show that the method was adequate for OTL detection even in relatively small F2 populations. The prior definition of the oligogenic heritage pattern is one the main requirements of this method that focus in the attainment of the analysis presumptions without previous markers order information.

We characterized indigenous common bean rhizobia from five districts of the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The isolates were trapped by two common bean varieties, the Mineiro Precoce (Andean origin) and Ouro Negro (Mesoamerican origin). Analysis by BOX-PCR of selected isolates detected a high level of genetic diversity.

RESUMO A acentuada interação genótipo x ambiente presente em muitas culturas faz com que estudos de adaptabilidade a ambientes específicos sejam parte integrante dos programas de melhoramento vegetal. A resposta diferenciada dos genótipos a ambientes favoráveis e desfavoráveis pode ser estudada utilizando metodologias baseadas em três estratégias principais: análise de variância, regressão linear e em estatísticas não-paramétricas. Este trabalho apresenta uma nova metodologia para estudo de interação genótipo x ambiente que se baseia na comparação de valores de distância cartesiana entre os genótipos e quatro referências ideais em uma dispersão de componentes principais, visando a facilitar a recomendação de genótipos. Esse método, chamado de método centróide, difere em relação aos métodos baseados em análise de variância por permitir o direcionamento dos cultivares em relação à variação ambiental e pela facilidade de identificação dos genótipos, dispensando a análise simultânea de vários parâmetros como nos métodos baseados em regressão. Para exemplificar sua aplicação, foram avaliados 25 genótipos provenientes de testes clonais de Eucalyptus grandis aos 74 meses de idade plantados em quatro ambientes em modelo fatorial e delineamento em blocos ao acaso com seis repetições, sendo que os efeitos de genótipos foram considerados fixos e os efeitos de blocos e ambientes aleatórios. Foram identificados quatro clones de boa adaptabilidade geral além de outros de adaptação específica a grupo de ambientes que também podem ser recomendados visando a capitalizar o efeito da interação. Os resultados foram comparados com os obtidos pela metodologia de regressão proposta por Eberhart e Russel (1966) e pelo método proposto por Lin e Binns (1988) e permitem concluir que o método centróide foi eficiente na identificação dos clones de Eucalyptus grandis avaliados de comportamento diferenciado entre os ambientes; associado à facilidade de recomendação e ordenamento dos genótipos a grupos de adaptabilidade específicos.

ABSTRACT The intense genotype x environment interaction present in many cultures make studies of adaptability to specific environments an important part of vegetal improvement programs. The different response of genotypes to favorable and unfavorable environments can be studied using methodologies based on three main strategies: analysis of variance, linear regression and non-parametric statistics. This work presents a new methodology for the study of genotype environment interaction, using principal components analysis, in order to facilitate the recommendation of specific genotypes to certain environments. This methodology, called centroid method, consists in the comparison of cartesian distance values between the genotypes and four ideal references using principal components. It differs from methods based in analysis of variance due to the aiming of genotypes according to environment variation and the facility of genotype identification, dispensing the analysis of several parameters as in methods based on regression. In order to exemplify the use of this method an experiment of Eucalyptus grandis planted in random blocks design and four environments was studied. Four clones of general adaptability were identified besides others of specific adaptation that can also be recommended aiming to capitalize the interaction effect. The results of this study were compared with the ones obtained through other methodologies by Eberhart e Russel (1966) and by Lin and Binns (1988) and allows to conclude that the centroid method was efficient in the identification of differentiated performance E. grandis clones; associated to the easiness of recommendation and ordering of the genotypes into specific adaptability groups.
