ABSTRACT Mangrove ecosystems are sensitive to oil, as spills can impair developmental processes of mangrove vegetation. Since the 2010s, the Brazilian equatorial margin, more specifically the Pará-Maranhão Basin and the mouth of the Amazonas River, has been affected by oil runoff from urban activities and the increased risk from exploratory deepwater drilling for oil extraction. Dispersal of mangrove propagules occurs during the tidal cycles, when the presence of tensors in the water can affect germination. We analyzed the effects of diesel oil on the germination of propagules of the two most common mangrove species in the region, Laguncularia racemosa and Avicennia germinans, in six treatments of diesel oil in the water (0.5%, 1%, 1.5%, 2%, 3% and 4%) and a diesel-free control. The response variables were germinability (G%), mean germination time, mean germination speed and the germination speed index (GSI). G% and GSI in L. racemosa propagules differed significantly between the control and all treatments (G% and GSI < 10% in the 3% treatment). Propagules of A. germinans were more resistant, and the physiological variables did not differ significantly among treatments and control (G% > 90% in all treatments). Our results indicate that, at the germination stage, L. racemosa was more susceptible than A. germinans to contamination by automotive diesel oil.

RESUMO Os ecossistemas de manguezais são sensíveis ao óleo, pois os derramamentos podem prejudicar os processos de desenvolvimento da vegetação de mangue. Desde a década de 2010, a margem equatorial brasileira, mais especificamente a Bacia do Pará-Maranhão e a foz do Rio Amazonas, vem sendo afetada pelo vazamento de petróleo proveniente de atividades urbanas e pelo aumento do risco de perfurações exploratórias em águas profundas para extração de petróleo. A dispersão dos propágulos do manguezal ocorre durante os ciclos das marés, quando a presença de tensores na água pode afetar a germinação. Analisamos os efeitos do óleo diesel na germinação de propágulos de duas espécies de mangue mais comuns na região, Laguncularia racemosa e Avicennia germinans, em seis tratamentos de óleo diesel na água (0,5%, 1%, 1,5%, 2%, 3% e 4%) e um controle sem óleo diesel. As variáveis resposta foram germinabilidade (G%), tempo médio de germinação, velocidade média de germinação e índice de velocidade de germinação (IVG). G% e IVG dos propágulos de L. racemosa diferiram significativamente entre o controle e todos os tratamentos (G% e GSI < 10% no tratamento 3%). Os propágulos de A. germinans foram mais resistentes e as variáveis fisiológicas não diferiram significativamente entre tratamentos e controle (G% > 90% em todos os tratamentos). Nossos resultados indicam que, no estágio de germinação, L. racemosa foi mais suscetivel que A. germinans à contaminação por óleo diesel automotivo.

É necessário aumentar a confiança na segurança e eficácia das vacinas. A melhor compreensão dos benefícios da vacinação para COVID-19 é imprescindível para combater a hesitação e ampliar a adesão vacinal.

AIM: to describe the methodology used in the study, the sample and the prevalence of symptoms in the acute phase of the infection according to socioeconomic variables. METHODS: cross-sectional study carried out in Rio Grande with individuals infected with covid-19 from December 2020 to March 2021. Nineteen symptoms present during the acute phase of the infection were investigated and analyzed, separately and in categories of “0-4”, “5-9” and “10 or more”, according to gender, age and economic class. RESULTS: 2,919 people were part of the sample. The most prevalent symptoms were fatigue (73.7%), headache (67.2%), loss of taste (65.9%), loss of smell (63.9%) and muscle pain (62.3% ). Regarding the occurrence of symptoms stratified by gender, all symptoms, except productive cough, were statistically higher in females. Regarding age, it was found that headache, pain/discomfort to breathe, loss of taste, loss of smell, fatigue, sore throat, nasal congestion, diarrhea, joint pain and muscle pain were statistically higher among adults (18 -59 years). As for economic class, the prevalence of symptoms of shortness of breath, pain/discomfort in breathing, alteration in sensitivity and joint pain showed a linear increase with the reduction in economic class. CONCLUSION: the results of this study made it possible to identify the most frequent symptoms in the acute phase of covid-19 and their distribution in groups, providing data for the implementation of public policies by managers and support for health professionals in assisting this population.

OBJETIVO: descrever a metodologia utilizada no estudo, a amostra e a prevalência dos sintomas da fase aguda da infecção de acordo com variáveis socioeconômicas. MÉTODOS: estudo transversal realizado em Rio Grande com indivíduos infectados pela covid-19 no período de dezembro de 2020 a março de 2021. Foram investigados 19 sintomas presentes durante a fase aguda da infecção e analisados, em separado e em categorias de “0-4”, “5-9” e “10 ou mais”, de acordo com sexo, idade e classe econômica. RESULTADOS: 2.919 pessoas fizeram parte da amostra. Os sintomas mais prevalentes foram fadiga (73,7%), dor de cabeça (67,2%), perda de paladar (65,9%), perda de olfato (63,9%) e dores musculares (62,3%). Com relação a ocorrência de sintomas estratificado por sexo, todos os sintomas, exceto tosse produtiva, foram estatisticamente maiores no sexo feminino. Referente à idade, verificou-se que dor de cabeça, dor/desconforto para respirar, perda de paladar, perda de olfato, fadiga, dor de garganta, congestão nasal, diarreia, dores articulares e dores musculares foram estatisticamente maiores entre os adultos (18-59 anos). Quanto a classe econômica, a prevalência dos sintomas falta de ar, dor/desconforto para respirar, alteração de sensibilidade e dores articulares apresentaram aumento linear conforme a redução da classe econômica. CONCLUSÃO: os resultados deste estudo permitiram identificar os sintomas mais frequentes na fase aguda da covid-19 e sua distribuição nos grupos, fornecendo dados para implementação de políticas públicas pelos gestores e respaldo para os profissionais de saúde na assistência a essa população.

ABSTRACT In the last decade, other quality attributes have emerged as the main aspects that impact pork consumers acceptance, such as environmentally friendly production, nutritional value, and animal welfare. This study applies a Check-All-That-Apply (CATA) questionnaire for sensory characterization of loins from genetically lean immunocastrated male pigs fed diets containing either a standard commercial diet with 1.5 % soybean oil (control) or 3 % oil from either soybean oil (SO), canola oil (CO), or fish oil (FO) during the growing-finishing phases. Twenty CATA attributes for loin samples were generated. We interviewed 101 consumers to select all the CATA terms that they considered suitable to characterize sensory attributes of longissimus lumborum muscle samples of pigs from each dietary treatment. The CATA results indicated differences among pork loin samples depending on the source and inclusion level of dietary oil. Loins from pigs fed 3 % SO were characterized by a higher frequency of the “juicy texture” attribute (p < 0.05) and a lower frequency of the “dry texture” attribute (p < 0.05) compared to loins from 3 % FO-fed pigs. Moreover, loins from pigs fed 3 % SO had a lower citation frequency of the “tasteless” attribute (p < 0.05) compared to loins from 3 % FO-fed pigs. The attributes “cooked pork meat-like taste”, “juicy texture”, “tender texture”, and “brightness” were placed close to the overall liking. “Tender texture”, “juicy texture”, “pork meat-like” (odor and taste), and “cooked pork meat-like taste” attributes were considered drivers of liking. Feeding genetically lean immunocastrated male pigs with diets containing 3 % SO may be advisable from a pork sensory quality perspective.

ABSTRACT Objective: to evaluate the effect of discharge planning conducted by nurses for informal caregivers of dependent people in increasing competence to care and reducing hospital readmissions. Method: a simple, randomized clinical trial conducted with two groups. Ninety-one dyads of informal caregivers-dependent people allocated to the Intervention Group (n=46) and Control Group (n=45) participated. Data collection, carried out in 2021, lasted eight months. The caregivers' outcomes (competence and hospital readmissions) were measured using the COPER-14 instrument at the following moments: pre-/post-intervention; and first, fourth and eighth week after discharge. Results: the informal caregivers' competence for care was 38% (p<0.001) higher in the Intervention Group. Competence was related to the caregiver's previous experience with care (18% higher, p<0.001) and to the experience of readmissions (11% higher, p<0.001). The Intervention Group had more readmissions (24%), whereas the Control Group showed more readmissions within seven days of discharge (13%). Conclusion: the intervention was effective in increasing the competence of informal caregivers of dependent people in the dehospitalization process; however, it did not reduce the number of readmissions. RESUMEN Objetivo: evaluar el efecto de la planificación del alta hospitalaria dirigida por enfermeros para cuidadores informales de personas dependientes sobre el aumento en la competencia de los cuidadores y la reducción en la cantidad de reinternaciones. Método: ensayo clínico de aleatorización simple y realizado con dos grupos. Los participantes fueron 91 díadas de cuidadores informales-personas dependientes asignadas al Grupo Intervención (n=46) y al Grupo Control (n=45). Realizado en 2021, el procedimiento de recolección de datos duró ocho meses. Los resultados de los cuidadores (competencia y reinternaciones) se midieron con el instrumento COPER 14, en los siguientes momentos: antes/después de la intervención; y a la semana uno, cuatro y ocho después del alta hospitalaria. Resultados: la competencia para cuidar en los cuidadores informales fue 38% (p<0,001) superior en el Grupo Intervención. La competencia estuvo relacionada con la experiencia previa de los cuidadores en dicha actividad (18% superior, p<0,001) y con haber vivido procesos de reinternación (11% superior, p<0,001). El Grupo Intervención presentó más reinternaciones (24%), mientras que en el Grupo Control se registraron más reinternaciones hasta siete días después del alta hospitalaria (13%). Conclusión: la intervención fue efectiva para aumentar la competencia de cuidadores informales de personas dependientes durante el proceso del alta hospitalaria, aunque no logró reducir la cantidad de reinternaciones. RESUMO Objetivo: avaliar o efeito do planejamento de alta conduzido por enfermeiros a cuidadores informais de pessoas dependentes, no aumento da competência para cuidar e na diminuição das readmissões hospitalares. Método: ensaio clínico randomizado, simples, conduzido com dois grupos. Participaram 91 díades de cuidadores informais-pessoas dependentes alocadas ao Grupo Intervenção (n=46) e Grupo Controle (n=45). A coleta de dados, realizada em 2021, perdurou por oito meses. Os desfechos dos cuidadores (competência e readmissões hospitalares) foram mensurados pelo instrumento COPER 14, nos momentos: pré/pós-intervenção, primeira, quarta e oitava semana após a alta. Resultados: a competência para cuidar de cuidadores informais foi 38% (p=<0,001) maior no Grupo Intervenção. A competência relacionou-se à experiência prévia do cuidador com o cuidado (18% maior, p=<0,001) e a vivência de reinternações (11% maior, p=<0,001). O Grupo Intervenção apresentou mais reinternações (24%), enquanto o Grupo Controle demonstrou mais reinternações em até sete dias após a alta (13%). Conclusão: a intervenção foi efetiva para aumentar a competência de cuidadores informais de pessoas dependentes no processo de desospitalização, contudo não reduziu o número de reinternações. ABSTRACT This study aimed to characterize clinical-neurological factors and the functional swallowing capacity of patients with malignant infarction submitted to decompressive craniectomy during the hospital stay. This retrospective, descriptive, observational study was conducted between January 2020 and December 2021. The following data regarding up to eight stages were extracted for descriptive analysis: age, location of the lesion, level of awareness according to the Glasgow Coma Scale, neurological impairment according to the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale, and the functional swallowing capacity according to the Functional Oral Intake Scale. Data on five patients were collected, with a mean of 0.2 days for the first neurological assessment. Decompressive craniectomy was performed in a mean of 2 days after admission. The speech-language-hearing assessment occurred in a mean of 8.2 days, and the speech-language-hearing discharge took a mean of 35.4 days. The neurological impairment score remained the same as in the first neurological assessment after decompressive craniectomy, with a mean score of 16.6. The functional swallowing capacity was the same in the first assessment after decompressive craniectomy, on FOIS level 1, improving considerably by the discharge, with a mean level of 4.8. It is concluded that clinical-neurological factors can interfere with the functional swallowing capacity, although they did not hinder either speech-language-hearing treatment or their evolution to a full oral diet during the hospital stay.

RESUMO O objetivo do presente trabalho é caracterizar fatores clínicos-neurológicos e capacidade funcional de deglutição de pacientes com Acidente Vascular Cerebral Isquêmico Maligno submetidos a craniectomia descompressiva durante internação hospitalar. Trata-se de um estudo observacional, descritivo e retrospectivo, realizado de janeiro de 2020 a dezembro de 2021. Os dados foram extraídos em até oito momentos, incluindo idade, local da lesão, nível de consciência de acordo com Glasgow, comprometimento neurológico pelo National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale e capacidade funcional de deglutição pela Escala Funcional de Ingestão por Via Oral. Realizou-se análise descritiva. Foram coletados dados de 5 pacientes sendo a média de tempo para primeira avaliação neurológica de 0,2 dias. A realização da craniectomia descompressiva levou em média 2 dias após admissão. Avaliação fonoaudiológica ocorreu, em média, 8,2 dias e alta fonoaudiológica levou, em média, 35,4 dias. O comprometimento neurológico manteve-se na pontuação da primeira avaliação neurológica pós-craniectomia descompressiva, média de 16,6. A capacidade funcional de deglutição foi a mesma na primeira avaliação pós-craniectomia descompressiva, com nível 1 na FOIS, melhorando consideravelmente, com média de nível 4,8, na alta. Concluiu-se que fatores clínicos-neurológicos podem interferir na capacidade funcional de deglutição, contudo não limitaram a atuação fonoaudiológica e evolução com dieta oral exclusiva na internação hospitalar.

Abstract The sexual division of labor causes inequality between genders, as well as situations of violence directed to women in the workplace. In the pharmaceutical area, the majority of women and insertion in multiple scenarios, involving contact with public and differentiated professional partnerships, enhance exposure to violence. Thus, the objective of this study was to analyze situations of violence experienced by pharmacists in the workplace. For this, a qualitative method was used, with content analysis, performed in the NVivo® software, of an online survey, answered by pharmacists (n=381) registered in the Regional Pharmacy Council of Minas Gerais, Brazil. As a result, four categories were identified: ‘Living with disrespect, threats and vulnerability,’ ‘Sexism and structural chauvinism that shuts down, diminishes and torments,’ ‘Discrimination against women as an obstacle to equity’ and ‘Sexual harassment and objectification of women.’ Several expressions of violence in the labor environment emerged from multiple aggressors. Pharmacists recognized professional impairment and little recognition for technical capacity. We concluded that the reports exposed the lack of protection of pharmaceutical integrity in the workplace. It is expected that these results bring to light the gender inequality in pharmaceutical work, with emphasis on situations of violence, expanding the discussion and providing evolution of this mostly female profession.

Resumen La división sexual del trabajo ocasiona iniquidad entre los géneros, así como situaciones de violencia dirigidas a las mujeres en el entorno laboral. En el ámbito farmacéutico, la mayoría de las mujeres y la inserción en múltiples escenarios, que implican contacto con el público y asociaciones profesionales diferenciadas, potencian la exposición a la violencia. Por lo tanto, el objetivo de este estudio fue analizar las situaciones de violencia experimentadas por las farmacéuticas en el entorno laboral. Para esto, se utilizó un método cualitativo, con análisis de contenido, realizado en el software NVivo®, de una encuesta en línea, respondida por farmacéuticas (n=381) registradas en el Consejo Regional de Farmacia de Minas Gerais, Brasil. A consecuencia, se identificaron cuatro categorías: ‘Conviviendo con falta de respeto, amenazas y vulnerabilidad’, ‘el sexismo y el machismo estructural que cala, disminuye y atormentó’, ‘la discriminación contra la mujer como obstáculo a la equidad’ y ‘el acoso sexual y la objeción de la mujer’. Han surgido varias expresiones de violencia en el entorno laboral procedentes de múltiples agresores. Los productos farmacéuticos han reconocido el daño profesional y el escaso reconocimiento de la capacidad técnica. Se concluye que los informes haciendo hincapié de manifiesto la falta de protección de la integridad farmacéutica en el entorno laboral. Se espera que estos resultados traigan a la luz la desigualdad de género en el trabajo farmacéutico, haciendo hincapié en las situaciones de violencia, ampliando el debate y dando lugar a la evolución de esa profesión principalmente femenina.

Resumo A divisão sexual do trabalho ocasiona iniquidade entre gêneros, bem como situações de violência direcionadas às mulheres no ambiente laboral. Na área farmacêutica, a maioria feminina e a inserção em múltiplos cenários, que envolvem contato com público e parcerias profissionais diferenciadas, potencializam a exposição à violência. Assim, o objetivo deste estudo foi analisar situações de violência vivenciadas por farmacêuticas no ambiente laboral. Para tal, utilizou-se método qualitativo, com análise de conteúdo, realizada no software NVivo®, de uma survey on line, respondida por farmacêuticas (n=381) registradas no Conselho Regional de Farmácia de Minas Gerais, Brasil. Como resultado, identificou-se quatro categorias: ‘Convivendo com o desrespeito, ameaças e vulnerabilidade’, ‘O sexismo e o machismo estrutural que cala, diminui e atordoa’, ‘A discriminação contra a mulher como obstáculo à equidade’ e ‘Assédio sexual e objetificação da mulher’. Emergiram diversas expressões de violências no ambiente laboral provenientes de múltiplos agressores. Farmacêuticas reconheceram prejuízo profissional e pouco reconhecimento pela capacidade técnica. Conclui-se que os relatos expuseram a falta de proteção da integridade farmacêutica no ambiente de trabalho. Espera-se que esses resultados tragam à luz a desigualdade de gênero no trabalho farmacêutico, com destaque para situações de violência, ampliando a discussão e proporcionando evolução dessa profissão majoritariamente feminina.

ABSTRACT Purpose to verify the relationship between the risk of falling, the level of confidence in activities involving balance, and age with the values of gain and symmetry of the semicircular canals (SSCs), using the Head Video Impulse Test (vHIT) in patients with peripheral vestibular dysfunction. Methods Cross-sectional study in 12 individuals submitted to functional evaluation using the Activities-specific Balance Confidence Scale (ABC Scale) and the Dynamic Gait Index (DGI), and vestibular evaluation with vHIT. The results were compared using Spearman's Correlation Coefficient. Results There was a predominance of females (75%), with a mean age of 59 years and 8 months. The mean score in DGI was 19.70 points and on the ABC Scale, 43.65%, which is characteristic of a low confidence level. A moderate correlation was observed between age and DGI and between DGI and ABC Scale and SCC gain and symmetry values with vHIT. Conclusion A relationship was observed between a higher risk of falling in patients with vestibular hypofunction and advanced age and between a low level of confidence to perform daily activities due to asymmetrical SCC gain.

RESUMO Objetivo verificar a relação entre o risco de queda, o nível de confiança nas atividades que envolvem equilíbrio e a idade com os valores de ganho e simetria dos canais semicirculares (CSCs), por meio do Vídeo Teste do Impulso Cefálico (vHIT), em pacientes com disfunção vestibular periférica. Método estudo transversal, composto por 12 indivíduos submetidos à avaliação funcional por meio da Activities-specific Balance Confidance Scale (ABC Scale) e do Dynamic Gait Index (DGI) e avaliação vestibular com o vHIT. Os resultados foram comparados por meio do Coeficiente de Correlação de Spearman. Resultados observou-se predomínio do gênero feminino (75%), com média de idade de 59 anos e 8 meses. A média de escore no DGI foi de 19,70 pontos e 43,65% na ABC Scale, característico de baixo nível de confiança. Observou-se correlação de grau moderado entre os parâmetros idade com o DGI, DGI e ABC Scale com os valores de ganho e simetria dos CSCs do vHIT. Conclusão Observaram-se relações entre o maior risco de queda em pacientes com hipofunção vestibular e idade avançada e entre o baixo nível de confiança para realizar atividades diárias diante da assimetria de ganho dos CSCs.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and factors associated with Trichomonas vaginalis infection among women of reproductive age attending community-based services for cervical screening. Patients and methods: A total of 1477 reproductive-aged women attending 18 Primary Health Care Units in Botucatu, Brazil, from September to October 2012, were enrolled. A structured questionnaire was used for individual face-to-face interviews for obtaining data on sociodemographic, gynecologic, and obstetrics history, sexual and hygiene practices, among others. Cervicovaginal samples were obtained for detection of T. vaginalis by culture using Diamond's medium and microscopic vaginal microbiota classification according to Nugent. A multivariable logistic regression analysis was carried out to estimate Odds Ratios (OR) and 95% Confidence Intervals (95% CI) for the association between participants’ sociodemographic, behavioral factors, and clinical factors with T. vaginalis infection. Results: Median age of study participants was 33 years (ranging from 18 to 50). The overall prevalence of T. vaginalis infection was 1.3% (n = 20). Several factors were independently associated with T. vaginalis infection, such as self-reporting as black or Pardo for ethnicity (OR = 2.70; 95% CI 1.03–7.08), smoking (OR=3.18; 95% CI 1.23–8.24) and having bacterial vaginosis (OR = 4.01; 95%CI = 1.55–10.38) upon enrollment. A protective effect of higher educational level (having high school degree) was observed (OR = 0.16; 95% CI 0.05–0.53). Conclusions: Our data suggest that screening programs to correctly detect T. vaginalis infection can be helpful to guide prevention strategies to the community. Our study supports an association between abnormal vaginal microbiota and T. vaginalis infection.

Abstract Introduction Hospitalization can render women’s health more fragile for a variety of reasons, potentially impacting their autonomy and independence. Within this scenario, interventions using assistive technology can enhance women’s occupational performance. Objective To discern the assistive technology actions undertaken by occupational therapists for women in hospital settings. Method This descriptive, retrospective, and exploratory study with a quantitative approach was conducted from August to December 2021. It utilized secondary data from 155 medical records of women who received occupational therapy in neurology, oncology, and mental health wards at a university hospital in Recife, state of Pernambuco, Brazil. Instruments included a structured questionnaire for characterization and a checklist to trace assistive technology actions. Data analysis was performed using Microsoft Excel. Results Out of 155, 48 patients benefited from assistive technology interventions by occupational therapists. These interventions included evaluation services, prescription, manufacturing, use guidance, and training. The primary devices were orthoses for upper limbs and aids for activities of daily living in the neurology sector, with cushions being prominent in the oncology sector. A common goal was the enhancement of occupational performance. Conclusion Most assistive technology actions occurred in the oncology and neurology wards, focusing on low-cost products. There is a recognized need to refine the monitoring process for assistive technology use, invest more in assistive technology services, and promote research in this field to generate further evidence.

Resumo Introdução A saúde da mulher pode se tornar mais frágil durante a internação hospitalar por diversos motivos, o que pode afetar sua autonomia e independência. Nesse contexto, intervenções em tecnologia assistiva podem ser realizadas para favorecer o desempenho ocupacional da mulher. Objetivo Identificar quais ações em tecnologia assistiva são realizadas por terapeutas ocupacionais com mulheres no contexto hospitalar. Método Estudo descritivo, retrospectivo e exploratório, de abordagem quantitativa, realizado de agosto a dezembro de 2021, por meio de dados secundários extraídos de 155 prontuários de mulheres que foram assistidas em terapia ocupacional nas enfermarias de Neurologia, Oncologia e Saúde Mental em um hospital universitário do Recife, PE, Brasil. Foram utilizados como instrumentos um questionário estruturado de caracterização e um checklist de rastreamento de ações em tecnologia assistiva. Para análise dos dados, foi utilizada estatística descritiva por meio da planilha eletrônica do Microsoft Excel. Resultados 48 pacientes receberam intervenções dos terapeutas ocupacionais em tecnologia assistiva, contemplando os serviços de avaliação, prescrição, confecção, orientação de uso e treino, tendo como principais dispositivos órteses de membros superiores e de auxílio para atividades de vida diária no setor de neurologia e o coxim no setor de oncologia, apresentando como predominância nos objetivos o favorecimento do desempenho ocupacional. Conclusão Foi identificado o predomínio das ações de tecnologia assistiva nas enfermarias de oncologia e neurologia com produtos de baixo custo; necessidade de melhorar o processo de acompanhamento de uso da tecnologia assistiva e de se investir no serviço de Tecnologia Assistiva; aumento de estudos sobre essa temática para gerar evidências.

ABSTRACT Objective: to determine risk factors for suicidal behavior among students and employees of a federal public university in the Brazilian Western Amazon. Methods: an analytical cross-sectional study of survey and association between variables with a sample of 475 participants. Statistical analyzes were performed using the Mann-Whitney test, Pearson’s chi-square test, likelihood ratio test or Fisher’s exact test and a logistic regression model. A significance level of 5% was used (p-value< 0.05). Results: a higher proportion of suicidal behavior was found in younger participants, females, who had no religion or had one, but were non-practicing, who did not have children and/or had a monthly family income of less than two minimum wages. Lower proportions of suicidal behavior were identified in heterosexuals and/or married or in a stable relationship. Conclusion: the study suggests a relationship between sociodemographic factors and suicidal behavior in the studied academic community.

RESUMEN Objetivo: determinar los factores de riesgo para la conducta suicida entre estudiantes y empleados de una universidad pública federal en la Amazonía occidental brasileña. Métodos: estudio analítico transversal de encuesta y asociación entre variables con una muestra de 475 participantes. Los análisis estadísticos se realizaron mediante las pruebas Mann-Whitney, chi-cuadrado de Pearson, razón de verosimilitud o exacta de Fisher y un modelo de regresión logística. Se utilizó un nivel de significancia del 5% (p-valor <0,05). Resultados: se encontró mayor proporción de conducta suicida en los participantes más jóvenes, mujeres, que no tenían religión o la tenían pero no la practicaban, que no tenían hijos y/o tenían un ingreso familiar mensual inferior a dos salarios mínimos. Se identificaron menores proporciones de conducta suicida en heterosexuales y/o casados o en relación estable. Conclusión: el estudio sugiere una relación entre factores sociodemográficos y conducta suicida en la comunidad académica estudiada.

Métodos: estudo do tipo transversal analítico de levantamento e associação entre variáveis com uma amostra de 475 participantes. As análises estatísticas foram feitas por Teste de Mann-Whitney, Teste Qui-Quadrado de Pearson, Teste da Razão de Verossimilhança ou Teste Exato de Fisher e modelo de regressão logística. Foi utilizado um nível de significância de 5% (p-valor < 0,05). Resultados: foi encontrada maior proporção de comportamento suicida em participante com idade menor, sexo feminino, que não possuía religião ou possuía, mas não era praticante, que não tinha filhos e/ou possuía renda familiar mensal inferior a dois salários mínimos. Menores proporções de comportamento suicida foram identificadas em heterossexuais e/ou casados ou em união estável. Conclusão: o estudo sugere relação entre fatores sociodemográficos com o comportamento suicida na comunidade acadêmica estudada.

Abstract The Pyroligneous extract is a product from the combustion of plant biomass with applications in the fields of health, industrial chemistry, and agriculture. SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to suggest a care protocol for foreign-body ingestion, address the clinical aspects, and identify the ingested object, severity, and professional conduct. METHODS: This is a qualitative study. We used books and original articles published in national and international journals (BIREME, SCIELO, LILACS, and MEDLINE/PubMed) in Portuguese, Spanish, and English. RESULTS: The ingestion of a radiolucent object should be evaluated radiographically and with endoscopy for cases with symptoms of impaction and radiolucent objects. Coins are the most commonly involved foreign bodies. In asymptomatic patients, it often requires only a conservative form of management. Ingestion of batteries, magnets, and sharp objects carries a high risk of serious clinical complications and should have an endoscopic or surgical approach. In view of this, each pediatric emergency service, based on these recommendations, has the possibility to develop an individual protocol to identify and remove the ingested foreign body. CONCLUSIONS: Protocol of care for foreign-body ingestion in children depends on the object ingested, time of ingestion, symptoms, and local epidemiological context. This study provides some suggestions for decision-making in the conduct of health professionals.

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Dengue is considered to be the most important arbovirus worldwide, with important complications that increase its lethality. In Brazil, an endemic country, the disease reaches significant incidence levels, with occurrences of serious cases and high costs of hospitalizations for its treatment. OBJECTIVE: To analyze risk factors among individuals with recent histories of dengue infection in a medium-sized city in Mato Grosso. DESIGN AND SETTING: Descriptive cross-sectional study, of epidemiological-survey type, conducted among the urban population of a city located in mid-northern Mato Grosso. METHODS: A seroepidemiological survey using questionnaires and collection of biological material was conducted among 596 adults aged ≥ 18 years who had been selected through a cluster sampling process. Positive dengue cases were those with positive results from anti-dengue immunoassays (ELISA). Statistical analyses with descriptive and inferential techniques were used, with 95% confidence intervals and a 5% significance level. RESULTS: The seroepidemiological profile of the study participants was predominantly female, with ages between 18 and 39 years, self-declared non-white race/color, not more than eight years of education and not living with a companion. Among the sanitary factors analyzed, the following were risk factors for dengue virus infection: no running water at home; no water supply from the public piped network; no waste from drains or toilets sent to the sewage network; endemic disease combat agents visiting the home; and presence of mosquito breeding sites at home. CONCLUSION: Low schooling levels and previous dengue virus infection were associated with current dengue virus infection.
