ABSTRACT. Elephantopus mollis Kunth (Asteraceae) is an aromatic medicinal species native to South and Central America with hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory, antitumor and leishmanicidal properties. We evaluated its maturation, ideal harvest moment, processing and seed storage, aiming to contribute to the production of this medicinal plant. We collected flower capitula between 7 and 56 days after anthesis for determination of seed moisture content, seed dry matter accumulation and germination, and correlated these factors with the morphological characters of the capitula. Capitulum processing was conducted with sieves and a seed blower to evaluate the purity, 1,000 seed weight, germination and cultural value of the seeds. The germination potential of seeds stored for 18 months refrigerated and at room temperature and the correlation of these results with those of an accelerated aging test were determined. The ideal harvest moment occurs at 49 days after anthesis and can be identified in the field by the brown coloration of the interfloral bracts. Seeds with cultural value above 80% can be obtained with the use of a 0.59 mm sieve and seed blower. The seeds can be stored cold for 12 months, and the accelerated aging test allows estimation of the viability of the seeds during storage for 18 months.

RESUMO Pittosporum undulatum (pau-incenso) é considerada espécie ornamental de elevado potencial invasor, dada sua grande capacidade de adaptação para colonizar habitats diversos. Visando a subsidiar ações de manejo para o seu controle, apresenta-se revisão sobre aspectos botânicos, ecológicos, etnobotânicos e silviculturais relacionados a esta espécie. Programas de controle devem incluir este tipo de informações de modo a assegurar que os limitados recursos destinados a esta questão sejam eficazmente alocados. Ressalta-se a importância de abordar de forma holística as causas da invasão, particularmente o papel da estrutura original e modificações funcionais impostas sobre os ecossistemas e seus processos, desde a colonização pela espécie invasora.

ABSTRACT Pittosporum undulatum (Australian cheesewood) is considered an ornamental species with high invasive potential, due to its strong adaptation capacity to colonize different habitats. Aiming to support controlling management actions, a review of its botanical, ecological, ethnobotanical and silvicultural aspects are presented. Control programs should include this type of information to ensure that the limited resources devoted to this issue will be efficiently allocated. It is important to address holistically the causes of the invasion, particularly the role of the original structure and functional changes imposed on ecosystems and their processes, since colonization by invasive species.

ABSTRACT The results of an evaluation of the impact of traditional silvopastoral system on floristic and phytosociology of the Mixed Ombrophilous Forest (MOF) remnants, named caívas, in the North Plateau of Santa Catarina, South of Brazil are shown here to contribute to a better understanding of the impact of human activities on natural environments,. There was significant heterogeneity in floristic and structural aspects among the remnants. They exhibited high floristic integrity, with the presence of species typically registered in MOF. On the other hand, the incidence of exotic species was inexpressive. The predominance of smaller plant individuals than expected for adults of the species, combined with the predominance of secondary and pioneer species indicate the occurrence of repeated disturbances over the years. It is urgent to identify technological alternatives to enable appropriate foraging and increase in livestock production, ensuring economic and social sustainability with less environmental impact.

RESUMO O crescimento do consumo per capita de flores no Brasil ainda é baixo quando comparado a outros países, entre os vários fatores que podem estar atrelados a este desnível de crescimento cita-se o estabelecimento de poucas ou ineficientes estratégias de marketing. Neste contexto, apresenta-se resultado da avaliação do perfil e comportamento do consumidor de flores, visando a subsidiar as ações de marketing para o segmento comercial varejista da cadeia produtiva de floricultura. O estudo foi realizado a partir de entrevistas a 300 pessoas de ambos os gêneros no momento em que compravam flores em 22 floriculturas do litoral do Paraná. Esta região foi selecionada em função de seu potencial de produção e comercialização de flores que é similar a outras regiões brasileiras e outros países onde a floricultura apresenta relevância econômica. Identificou-se o gênero feminino como consumidor majoritário (n = 62,7%), com tendência a elevação no consumo a medida que avançava a escolaridade (Coeficiente de Correlação de Spearman, p < 0,05 = uso próprio r = 0,122; p = 0,039; presentear r = 0,174; p = 0,003). Registrou-se média de aquisição de 4,4 ± 1,9 vezes por ano, com consumo preferencial de orquídeas (n = 36,3% para uso próprio) e rosas (n = 86,7%, para presentear). O comércio varejista de flores não atendia a expectativa dos clientes especialmente em relação a preço, promoções e qualidade da produção. O gênero masculino e a classe de consumidores da terceira idade podem representar importantes alternativas de incremento ao consumo atual de flores.

ABSTRACT The growth of per capita consumption of flowers in Brazil is still low when compared with other countries. Among several factors that may be linked to this growth gap, the establishment of few or ineffective marketing strategies was cited. In this context, we present the results of the profile and behavior of flower consumer, aiming to subsidize marketing actions for the retail segment of flower supply chain. The study was conducted through interviews with 300 people of both genders at the moment they were buying flowers at 22 flower shops in the Paraná coast. This region was selected due to its potential for flower production and commercialization, which is similar to other Brazilian regions and other countries where the flower market has economic relevance. The female gender was identified as the major consumer (n = 62.7%), with tendency of increase in consumption as education level advanced (Spearman correlation coefficient, p < 0.05 = for own use r = 0.122; p = 0.039; for gift r = 0.174; p = 0.003). The acquisition average of 4.4 ± 1.9 times per year was registered, with preferential consumption of orchids (n = 36.3% for own use) and roses (n = 86.7%, for gift). The flower retail trade did not meet the expectations of consumers, especially in relation to price, promotions, and production quality. The male gender and the elderly consumer class may represent important alternatives to increase the current consumption of flowers.

RESUMO Visando contribuir para o maior conhecimento deste tipo florestal pantaneiro, apresenta-se resultado de levantamento florístico-estrutural realizado em área vulgarmente denominada de "Mata com Acuri", localizada na RPPN SESC Pantanal (Município de Barão de Melgaço - MT, Brasil - 16º45' S; 56º15' W). Os dados florísticos foram obtidos a partir de coletas sistemáticas de material botânico fértil e vegetativo efetuadas na área amostral e entorno desta. Para coleta de dados estruturais, a área foi subdividida em 100 parcelas contíguas de 10 m x 10 m. Dentro de cada uma destas parcelas, todos os indivíduos arbóreos com diâmetro a altura do peito igual ou superior a 5,0 cm e palmeiras foram identificados, mensurados e mapeados, utilizando-se o sistema de coordenadas. Foram amostrados 1224 indivíduos ha-1, representativos de 44 espécies, 43 gêneros e 27 famílias; índice de diversidade H' = 1,613 (var. 0,003514). Famílias com maior diversidade: Fabaceae (9 spp.), Sapindaceae e Anacardiaceae (3 spp. cada), Bignoniaceae, Malvaceae, Moraceae e Rubiaceae (2 spp. cada). Dentre as espécies amostradas, 39% eram perenifólias; 32% semidecíduas e 29% decíduas. Do total de indivíduos arbóreos amostrados (n = 440), 51% eram decíduos; 23% semidecíduos e 26% perenifólios. Attalea phalerata foi a espécie que com maior valor de importância (VI = 121,62), devido à sua alta densidade (64% do total de indivíduos amostrados), frequência (100%) e elevadíssima área basal (74,10 m2.ha-1). Com valores subsequentes registraram-se Anadenanthera colubrina, Triplaris americana e Phyllostylon rhamnoide (VI = 35,41; 28,51; 18,5, respectivamente). A área estudada foi identificada como bastante peculiar em relação a outros locais representativos de Floresta Estacional, especialmente pela presença massiva de Attalea phalerata e ausência de representantes de Myrtaceae. A grande representatividade de espécies pioneiras em associação à elevada densidade de indivíduos dentro desta categoria sucessional reforça o caráter de formação transicional da Mata com Acuri. Em função da alta porcentagem de espécies decíduas e semidecíduas registradas para a área de estudo, classificou-se esta como sendo representativa de Floresta Estacional Decidual.

ABSTRACT Aiming to contribute to the better understanding of this kind of Pantanal forest, the results from a floristic-structural survey performed in a 1ha plot commonly classified as "Acuri Forest", located at RPPN SESC Pantanal (Municipality of Barão de Melgaço - MT, Brazil - 16º45'S; 56º15'W) are presented. The floristic data were obtained from systematic collection of botanical material on the studied area and surroundings. The structural data were obtained from a one ha plot, divided into 100 contiguous sub-plots (10m x 10m). Inside these sub-plots, all arboreal individuals with diameter at breast high equal or greater than 5.0 cm, including palms, were identified, measured and mapped, using a coordinate system. 1224 individual ha-1 were sampled, representing 44 species, 43genus and 27 families; diversity index H'= 1.613 (var. 0.003514). The highest diversity families were Fabaceae (9 spp.), Sapindaceae e Anacardiaceae (3 spp. each), Bignoniaceae, Malvaceae, Moraceae e Rubiaceae (2 spp. each). Among the sampled species, 39 % were evergreen; 32 % semideciduous and 29% deciduous. Considering the tree individuals total (n = 440), 51 % were decíduos; 23% semideciduous and 26% evergreen. Attalea phalerata was the species with the highest structural value (VI= 121.62), due to its high density (64% of the total sampled individuals), frequency (100%) e and very high basal area (74.10 m2 ha-1). On second level of importance were Anadenanthera colubrina, Triplaris americana and Phyllostylon rhamnoide (VI= 35.41; 28.51; 18.5 respectively). The studied area was identified as very peculiar comparatively with other Seasonal Forest areas, especially because the Attalea phalerata massive density and absence of Myrtaceae representatives. The high representation of pioneer species in association with high density of individuals within this successional category reinforces that Mata com Acuri represents an early successional stage or a transitional stage. Based on the great percentage of deciduous and semi-deciduous species recorded for the area of study, it was classified as being representative of Deciduous Forest.

Attalea phalerata Mart. ex Spreng. (Arecaceae) é uma palmeira neotropical de distribuição restrita à porção oriental da América do Sul, sendo encontrada na Colômbia, Peru, Bolívia, Brasil e Paraguai. É uma espécie de elevado potencial econômico, dada a diversidade de usos populares a ela associados. Apesar de ainda não estar sendo aproveitada em toda sua potencialidade, esta palmeira representa substancial recurso para comunidades tradicionais distribuídas na sua área de ocorrência natural. Visando ressaltar a importância de Attalea phalerata como fonte de recursos, apresenta-se revisão sobre aspectos botânicos, ecológicos, etnobotânicos e agronômicos desta espécie.

Attalea phalerata is a neotropical species with distribution restricted to the west part of South America, found in Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil and Paraguay. This species isconsidered with high economic potential, due to the diversity of popular uses associated to it. In spite of not being used in all its potentiality, this palm tree represents substantial resource for the traditional communities distributed in its area of natural occurrence. Aiming to highlight the importance of Attalea phalerata as source of natural products, a review on botanical, ecological, ethnobotanical and agronomical aspects of this species is presented.

Apresentam-se resultados de monitoramento da dinâmica de regeneração de Merostachys skvortzovii Send. (taquara-lixa), englobando dados de recrutamento, crescimento e mortalidade de plântulas (Floresta Ombrófila Mista, General Carneiro, Paraná, 26˚ 25′ S e 51˚ 18′ W). Foram avaliadas duas clareiras de tamanhos (aprox. 40mx40m) e situações de abertura do dossel similares, resultantes da morte de touceiras de taquara-lixa entre 2003-2005, utilizando-se 80 parcelas (1mx1m) em cada clareira (2007). Mensalmente, registrou-se a inclusão, permanência e mortalidade de plântulas de M. skvortzovii nessas parcelas. Evidenciou-se densidade média de plântulas diferenciada, mas similar padrão de distribuição espacial dessas plântulas nas clareiras avaliadas. As médias mensais de recrutamento, crescimento em altura e mortalidade foram significativamente diferentes em ambas as clareiras. Não se detectou correlação significativa entre as variáveis biológicas observadas (crescimento, recrutamento e mortalidade) e a variabilidade de pluviosidade e temperatura registradas no período de monitoramento. Em termos gerais, pode-se inferir que a taquara-lixa apresentava a capacidade de recolonizar as áreas abertas após o evento sincrônico de mortalidade, sendo que as características ambientais de cada clareira podem influenciar essa ocupação. A concentração das plântulas nas bordas das clareiras pode determinar a ampliação da área de ocupação da espécie no local de estudo. Entretanto, somente o monitoramento a médio e longo prazo das clareiras geradas pela morte da taquara-lixa permitirá compreender melhor o ciclo de vida dessa espécie e seu efetivo papel no fechamento dessas clareiras e dinâmica da floresta que a abriga

The results of monitoring the Merostachys skvortzovii Send. regeneration dynamics, including seedling recruitment, growth and mortality (Araucarian Forest, General Carneiro, Paraná, 26˚ 25′ S e 51˚ 18′ W, 1000m a.s.l.) are presented. Two gaps with similar size (40mx40m) and opening situation, resulting from M. skvortzovii dye-off s in 2003-2005, on which 80 small plots (1mx1m) were evaluated (2007). Monthly, it were registered the inclusion, permanence and mortality of seedlings of M. skvortzovii in these plots. It was evidenced different seedling average density among gaps, but similar seedlings spatial distribution pattern in both gaps. The monthly averages of recruitment, growth in height and mortality were significantly different in both gaps. Significant correlation was not detected between the biological observed variables (growth, recruitment and mortality) and the variability of pluviosity and temperature registered in during the monitoring. In general terms, it is possible to infer that the M. skvortzovii representative were capable of re-colonizing the areas opened after the synchronous dye-off event, but the environmental characteristics of each gap can influence this occupation. The concentration of the seedlings in the edges of the gaps can determine the enlargement of the species occupation area. Meantime, only middle to long term monitoring of the clearings produced by the M. skvortzovii dye-off will allow the understanding of the this species life cycle and its effective paper in the closure of these gaps as well as in the dynamic of the forest that shelters it

A maioria das Unidades de Conservação (UCs) de Curitiba (PR, Brasil) está contaminada por espécies arbóreas exóticas invasoras (AEIs). Mas não existem estudos que evidenciem seu impacto e manejo apropriado. Os objetivos dessa pesquisa foram avaliar a participação das AEIs e as implicações e manejo da AEI de maior importância estrutural na composição florística-estrutural do Parque da Barreirinha, um remanescente de Floresta com Araucária. Foram avaliadas quatro unidades amostrais, com área total de 1600 m² representando aproximadamente 4% da área total do maciço vegetal. Foram amostrados 354 indivíduos arbóreos, com DAP ≥ 15 cm, e calculados, para cada espécie amostrada, os parâmetros de frequência relativa, densidade relativa, dominância relativa e valor de importância. Foram identificadas 29 famílias, 43 gêneros e 57 espécies, sendo três AEIs. A sustentabilidade e a integridade desta UC podem estar comprometidas devido à presença de Pittosporum undulatum Vent. (pau-incenso), espécie de maior valor de importância estrutural, alta densidade e frequência. Pelas características botânico-ecológicas do Pittosporum undulatum, a opção de remoção de indivíduos adultos deve ser considerada com muita cautela.

The majority of the Conservation Units (CUs) of Curitiba (Paraná state, Brazil) are plagued by invasive alien tree species (IATs). However, no studies have been carried out to evaluate their impact or to determine the appropriate management techniques. The objective of this study is to evaluate the participation of IATs and the implications and management of the most significant species causing major structural change in the floristic-structural composition of 'Barreirinha' Park, a remnant of Araucaria Forest. Four plots were evaluated in a total area of 1600 m² representing approximately 4% of the total area of the forest. A total of 354 individual trees were sampled with a diameter of ≥ 15 cm, and for each species sampled, parameters were calculated of the relative frequency, relative density, relative dominance and the importance value. It was possible to identify 29 families, 43 genera and 57 species, three of which were IATs. The sustainability and integrity of this Conservation Unit can be threatened by the presence of Pittosporum undulatum (Sweet Pittosporum), the species with the greatest structural importance value, high density and frequency. Possible management strategies for the Pittosporum undulatum species are presented.

RESUMO Visando subsidiar o estabelecimento de planos de manejo sustentáveis para Attalea phalerata, apresenta- se resultado da avaliação da estrutura de uma população desta espécie e seu respectivo potencial de regeneração natural. Com base nos dados obtidos, avaliou-se a capacidade potencial de produção de frutos e óleo relacionada à área estudada. A pesquisa foi realizada em área (1 ha) representativa de Mata com Acuri Denso, localizada na RPPN SESC PANTANAL (Mun. Barão de Melgaço, MT, Brasil). Registrou-se 1164 indivíduos, sendo 462 representantes do estádio adulto reprodutivo e 209 representantes do estádio adulto imaturo. Em área amostral parcial (0,1 hectare) foram registrados 123 indivíduos incluídos no estádio jovem e 370 no estádio plântula. A população apresentou estrutura etária do tipo J-invertido, comum a populações estáveis que apresentam potencial de regeneração constante. A produtividade potencial imediata mínima detectada foi de aproximadamente 323 a 970 Kg ha-1 de óleo do mesocarpo e 370 a 601 Kg ha-1 de óleo de amêndoa. A produtividade imediata máxima seria de ca. 970 a 2910 Kg ha-1 de óleo de mesocarpo e 1109 a 1802 Kg ha-1 do óleo de amêndoa.

ABSTRACT Aiming to provide basis for the establishment of Attalea phalerata sustainable harvesting management plan, the results of the evaluation of the population structure and its respective natural regeneration potential are presented. Based on the obtained data, it was evaluated the potential capacity of fruit and oil yielding, related to the studied area. The research was performed in a 1ha plot representative of Acuri Dense Forest, located at RPPN SESC PANTANAL (Barão de Melgaço Mun., Mato Grosso state, Brazil). A total of 1164 individuals were registered, being 462 representatives of reproductive adults and 209 representatives of immature adults. 123 individuals were included as young and 370 as seedlings. The population had an inverted- J age structure, characteristic of stable populations with constant regeneration potentiality. The minimum immediate potential productivity was ca. 323 up to 970 Kg ha-1 for the mesocarp oil and 370 up to 601 Kg ha-1 for the kernel oil. The maximum immediate potential productivity was ca. 970 up to 2910 Kg ha-1 for the mesocarp oil and 1109 up to 1802 Kg ha-1 for kernel oil.

As folhas de Geonoma gamiova Barb. Rodr. são importantes recursos para floriculturas, já que são empregradas principalmente nos arranjos fúnebres. Visando a gerar subsídios para o seu extrativismo sustentável, são apresentados resultados de estudo de estrutura populacional dessa espécie. A pesquisa foi realizada em área de Floresta Ombrófila Densa Submontana onde a espécie é submetida ao extrativismo foliar (Comunidade do Rasgadinho, Mun. Guaratuba, Paraná, 25 45'S e 48 46'W, 30 - 100m de altitude). Detectou-se alta densidade de indivíduos, principalmente nas classes mais jovens, caracterizando um padrão populacional J-invertido. Registrou-se estoque de 448 folhas aptas para comercialização em 0,5ha, com histórico de intensa extração de folhas. Evidenciou-se alto potencial de regeneração e padrão de distribuição agregado (Id>1) para a população estudada. Com base nos dados obtidos, discutiu-se a sustentabilidade da atividade extrativista em questão.

The leaves of Geonoma gamiova Barb. Rodr. are an important resource to floriculture, where they are used specially in funeral floral ornaments. Aiming to generate subsidies to sustainable management of this resource, results from the evaluation of the population structure of this species are presented. The research was performed in Sub-Montane Atlantic forest submitted to leaf harvesting of G. gamiova (Rasgadinho community, Guaratuba Mun., Paraná Brasil; 25 45'S e 48 46'W). It was registered high density of this species, mainly in younger stages, characterizing a J-inverted population. It was found 448 leaves commercially acceptable in the 0.5ha plot with a history of intense leaf harvesting. The population showed a high potential of regeneration and clustered spatial distribution (Id>1). Based on these data, it is discussed the sustainability of the cited harvesting activity.

Realizou-se um estudo prospectivo da cadeia produtiva de bromélias no Estado do Paraná, objetivando conhecer o perfil do produtor paranaense, com respectiva capacidade de atender às demandas de mercado, identificar e caracterizar os diferentes níveis da cadeia produtiva e detectar os principais pontos de estrangulamento do desenvolvimento desse setor. Para tanto, foram entrevistados 19 produtores, 160 varejistas e 18 atacadistas. A quantidade de bromélias oriundas da produção do Paraná e aptas ao mercado era de 5.340 plantas ao ano, inferior à demanda do Estado. As condições exigidas pelos varejistas (v) e atacadistas (a) para aquisição de bromélias dos produtores regionais eram: preço igual ou inferior ao praticado em São Paulo (exigido por: v = 134; a = 18), qualidade da produção condizente com a encontrada no mercado (v = 86; a = 16), capacidade de efetuar entregas periódicas (v = 81; a = 11) e capacidade de atendimento dos pedidos extras (v = 55; a = 7). Não foi encontrado produtor no Estado do Paraná que pudesse atender a todas as exigências de forma simultânea. Os principais entraves que impediam a inserção da produção no mercado regional eram decorrentes da inaplicabilidade dos modelos de gestão da produção rural, adotados pelos produtores, e das incongruências tecnológicas observadas na maioria dos viveiros de cultivo, que resultavam em produção de baixa qualidade.

This paper is a prospective study about the bromeliads production and trade in Paraná State, Brazil, which aimed to know the producers' profile in Paraná State with the respective capacity of meeting market demands, identify and characterize the different levels of the bromeliads production chain, as well as detect the main bottlenecks to the development of this sector. A total of 19 producers were interviewed; 160 retailers and 18 wholesalers. The amount of bromeliads from the regional production and suitable to be the traded was 5340 plants per year, which was lower than the State demand. The conditions demanded by retailers (r) and wholesalers (w) to purchase bromeliads from regional producers were: equal to or lower price than it is sold in São Paulo (required by: r = 134; w = 18), production quality demanded as found in the market (r = 86; w = 16), ability to make regular deliveries (r = 81; w = 11) and replacement capacity for requests of extra orders (r = 55; w = 7). It was not found in Paraná a producer that could meet all requirements simultaneously. The main barriers that prevented the inclusion of production in the regional market were due to the inapplicability of the rural production management models adopted by the producers and the technological inconsistencies observed in most of the culture hatcheries that resulted in low quality production.

Visando a contribuir para o melhor entendimento da participação da atividade extrativista no âmbito da comercialização de bromélias no Brasil, apresentou-se resultado de pesquisa que buscou: a) identificar e caracterizar os extrativistas de bromélias formalmente registrados e os informais no Estado do Paraná; b) identificar e caracterizar as metodologias de coleta, o preparo e vias de comercialização das plantas coletadas; c) levantar a opinião dos extrativistas sobre facilidades e dificuldades desta atividade. O extrativismo de bromélias no Paraná foi identificado em 12 municípios, englobando 31 famílias extratoras, predominantemente concentradas no litoral do Paraná (n=10) e Município de Ortigueira (n=7). Foram identificados dois tipos básicos de extrativistas: residente e oportunista, com diferenças marcantes entre estes, especialmente no que se refere a volume e forma de extração. Foram identificadas 21 espécies submetidas ao extrativismo, sendo as mais frequentemente coletadas: Vriesea incurvata Gaudich. comercializada por 90% dos entrevistados, Nidularium innocentii Lem. (77%), Vriesea platynema Gaudich. (67%), Tillandsia stricta Sol. ex Ker Gawl. (55%) e Vriesea carinata Lem. (55%).

Aiming to contribute to the better understanding of the wild harvesting participation in the context of the bromeliads trade, the results from a study focused on: a) identifying and to characterizing the bromeliads wild harvesters (formally and not formally registered) in the State of the Paraná; b) identifying and characterizing the harvesting methodologies, preparation and trade routes, and c) surveying the harvesters opinion on the facilities and difficulties of bromeliads wild harvesting are presented. The bromeliads wild harvesting was detected in 12 municipalities at Parana State, involving 31 harvester families, most of them concentrated at the coastal zone (n=10) and Ortigueira Mun. (7). Two basic harvester types were identified: resident and opportunist with outstanding differences between them especially related to volume and forms of extraction. A total of 21 bromeliads species were identified as submitted to wild harvesting, being the more frequently collected: Vriesea incurvata Gaudich. (cited by 90% of the interviewed harvesters), Nidularium innocentii Lem. (77%), Vriesea platynema Gaudich. (67%), Tillandsia stricta Sol. ex Ker Gawl. (55%) and Vriesea carinata Wawra (55%).

As espécies de Piper são de grande interesse medicinal. Porém apresentam considerável desafio taxonômico, provavelmente pelo diminuto tamanho das partes florais. Por isso a morfologia externa da folha tem sido muito utilizada para taxonomia do grupo. Entretanto, há poucos trabalhos anatômicos para o gênero. Neste estudo, as folhas de nove espécies foram comparadas anatomicamente: Piper aduncum Vell.; P. cernuum Vell.; P. dilatatum Rich; P. gaudichaudianum Kunth; P. glabratum Kunth; P. hispidinervum C. DC.; P. lindbergii C. DC.; P. solmsianum C. DC. e P. umbellatum Jacq. O objetivo era avaliar o potencial dos caracteres anatômicos para separação de espécies. A maioria das espécies estudadas tem a epiderme do limbo constituída por células retangulares e arredondadas. Camadas subepidérmicas ocorrem em ambas às faces do limbo, exceto em P. aduncum, P. cernuum e P. hispidinervum. Todas as espécies são hipoestomáticas, exceto P. hispidinervum. O mesofilo é dorsiventral na maioria das espécies, enquanto em P. solmsianum e P. umbellatum o mesofilo é homogêneo. O número de camadas dos tecidos paliçádico e esponjoso é variável. Também ocorrem variações no número e no tamanho dos feixes vasculares. Em geral, ocorrem células secretoras, idioblastos, tricomas tectores e glandulares, lipídios, compostos fenólicos e amido. A análise de agrupamento identificou três grupos distintos entre as espécies, com base nas características anatômicas estudadas.

The species of Piper are of great medical interest. They, however, represent considerable taxonomic challenge, probably due to the small size of floral parts. Therefore, the external morphology of the leaf has been used as diagnostic features in the taxonomy of the group. However, there are few anatomical studies on species of this genus. In this study, the leaves of nine species were compared anatomically: Piper aduncum Vell., P. cernuum Vell., P. dilatatum Rich, P. gaudichaudianum Kunth, P. glabratum Kunth, P. hispidinervum C. DC., P. lindbergii C. DC., P. solmsianum C. DC. and P. umbellatum Jacq. The objective was to evaluate the potential of anatomical characters for species separation. Most species studied have the epidermis of the lamina consists of rectangular and rounded cells. Subepidermal layers occur on both sides of the lamina, except in P. aduncum, P. cernuum and P. hispidinervum. All species are hypostomatic, except P. hispidinervum. The mesophyll is dorsiventral in most species, while in P. solmsianum and P. umbellatum, the mesophyll is homogeneous. The number of layers of palisade and spongy tissue is variable. Also there are variations in the number and size of vascular bundles. In general, secreting cells, idioblasts, and glandular trichomes, lipids, phenolic compounds and starch are present. Cluster analysis identified three distinct groups of species based on anatomical features studied.

Apresentam-se resultados de pesquisa experimental que avaliou o crescimento in vitro de embriões zigóticos e aclimatização de plântulas de bocaiuva (Acrocomia aculeata) cultivadas em diferentes concentrações (0,0; 0,001; 0,005; 0,01; 0,05; 0,1; 0,5 e 1mg L-1) de análogo de brassinosteroide (Biobras 16®). O trabalho buscou verificar se a aplicação de Biobras 16® influencia positivamente na taxa de germinação dos embriões zigóticos de Acrocomia aculeata e se promove o crescimento e desenvolvimento das plântulas e, consequentemente, afeta o número de plântulas normais. A aplicação de Biobras 16® não promoveu acréscimo no percentual de germinação, porém, estimulou a formação de plântulas normais. |O efeito positivo de Biobras 16® foi observado apenas na primeira fase, não sendo observado nas demais fases de crescimento avaliadas.

The results of an experimental research evaluating the in vitro growth of zygotic embryos and acclimatization of bocaiuva (Acrocomia aculeata) grown under different concentrations (0.00, 0.001, 0.005, 0.01, 0.05, 0.1, 0.5 and 1mg. L-1) of a brassinosteroid analogue (Biobras 16®) are presented. The objective was to determine whether the application of 16 Biobras ® positively affects the germination of zygotic embryos of Acrocomia aculeata and promotes the growth and development of seedlings and thereby affects the number of normal seedlings. The application of Biobras 16® did not promote an increase in the percentage of germination but stimulated the formation of normal seedlings. The positive effect of Biobras 16® was observed only in the first phase, not observed in other growth stages evaluated.

Apresentam-se dados da avaliação in vitro de três espécies vegetais da família Asteraceae sobre o desenvolvimento dos ovos de Trichostrongilídeos de ovinos. Realizou-se o teste de eclodibilidade com extratos vegetais preparados por aparelho de Soxhlet e hidrolato preparado por hidrodestilação. Os testes laboratoriais evidenciaram que o extrato etanólico das flores da espécie Aster lanceolatus apresenta alta atividade sobre o desenvolvimento dos ovos de Trichostrongilídeos de ovinos, inibindo em 91% a formação da larva em 48 horas, mantendo-se índices próximos em 72 horas.

Data on in vitro evaluation of extracts of three species of the Asteraceae family on the development of Trichostrongylidae eggs in sheep are presented. Egg hatchability was tested using herbal extracts prepared in a Soxhlet extractor, and using hydrolate prepared by means of hydrodistillation. The laboratory tests showed that the ethanol extract from flowers of the species Aster lanceolatus presented high activity against Trichostrongylidae eggs development in sheep, inhibiting larva formation by 91% within 48 hours, and maintaining similar rates after 72 hours.
