Observou-se a trajetória metacognitiva de usuários de uma biblioteca universitária a fim de identificar as estratégias metacognitivas utilizadas durante o processo de busca da informação em catálogo coletivo online. Sua configuração foi pautada nos relatos orais dos sujeitos participantes obtidos por meio da técnica do Protocolo Verbal Individual de modo a propiciar uma configuração real da tarefa e uma análise mais aproximada do seu fazer natural em sistemas de recuperação da informação. Os resultados demonstram que o conhecimento de estratégias metacognitivas repercute na qualidade dos resultados obtidos no processo de busca da informação e interferem no modo como se concretiza a recuperação da informação em catálogo online, fato que acentua a necessidade de estudos que avancem em questões relacionadas à metacognição de usuários de informação.

It was observed the metacognitive trajectory of three users from a public university library the state of Sao Paulo to identify the metacognitive strategies that were used during the process of searching for information in a online collective catalog. Its configuration was based on participants' oral reports obtained by the technique of individual verbal protocol to provide an actual configuration of the task ans a closer examination of its natural recovery of information systems. The data collection sessions were recorded, and the recorded data were transcribed and categorized into four units of analyses: 1- expertise, 2-regulation, 3-assessment of knowledge itself and 4- organization of cognitive process. The results showed that knowledge of meta-cognitive strategies affects the quality of the results obtained in the process of searching for information and interferes in the way it implements retrieval on-line catalog, a fact the emphasizes the need for studies to move forward on issues meta-cognition of users of information.

A presente pesquisa é fruto da dissertação de Mestrado pela Universidade Federal da Paraíba, que teve como objeto o estudo do processo de busca de informação, desenvolvido pelos usuários do Arquivo Público do Maranhão (APEM). Analisamos, à luz do modelo de comportamento de busca de informação de David Ellis, se as estratégias metacognitivas do profissional da informação do APEM são semelhantes ou diferentes das traçadas pelos pesquisadores no comportamento de busca da informação. Os resultados foram obtidos por meio da aplicação da entrevista semidiretiva, aplicada a dois profissionais, e o protocolo verbal a doze pesquisadores. Destacamos, como resultado, a convergência no comportamento de busca de informação desses sujeitos, com poucas diferenças; e a ausência de um estudo de usuário pelo APEM de forma mais sistêmica e centrada em seus usuários e a criação de uma nova subcategoria.

This research is an essay result of Master's degree by Universidade Federal of Paraíba, it had as object of study the process of search of information developed by the users of Public Archive of Maranhão (APEM). We analyzed under the behavior model of search of information by David Ellis, whether the metacognitive strategies of the professional from APEM, whether it looks like or it differentiate from those drawn by the researchers in the behavior of search of information. The results were obtained through the application of semi-directive interview; it was applied to two professionals and the verbal protocol to twelve researchers. We pointed out as result, the convergence in the behavior of search of information of these subjects with few differences; the absence of a user study by APEM in a systemic way and focused on its users and the creation of a new subcategory (copy).

Apresenta uma reflexão sobre a meta-aprendizagem. Analisa aportes teóricos sobre o uso da metacognição na aprendizagem. Evidencia a importância do ensino da metacognição visando ao desenvolvimento pelo aluno de métodos eficazes para lidar com a informação proveniente do meio e com seus próprios processos mentais. Enfatiza o aprendizado voltado para atividades metacognitivas que têm produzido resultados satisfatórios no desempenho escolar. Apresenta uma abordagem da Ciência da Informação destinada àqueles que fazem parte dos Sistemas de Recuperação.

The article presents a reflection on meta-learning, analyzes theoretical support about the use of metacognition in learning, stresses the importance of teaching metacognition for learner to develop some efficient methods to deal with the information obtained from the environment and the mental processes involved. It emphasizes the learning in metacognitive activities that have produced satisfactory performance in schools. An Information Science approach directed to those at the Information Systems is also presented.

A pesquisa objetivou identificar semelhanças e divergências no uso das seguintes estratégias metacognitivas entre leitores proficientes indexadores e não-indexadores: incompreensão monitorada, construção de hipótese, relação de informações entre sentenças e parágrafos, pergunta-resposta, elaboração mental de resumo, juízo de valor, repetição e evocação. O método utilizado foi o protocolo verbal, que possibilita a obtenção de relatos individuais da própria cognição durante a execução de uma tarefa ou à medida que esteja sendo relembrada. A leitura de dois textos foi aplicada a sete indexadores e a sete sujeitos do grupo-controle. Os resultados demonstram que os indexadores lêem de modo semelhante aos sujeitos do grupo-controle, divergindo apenas em relação às estratégias de elaboração de resumo. Também foi testada uma questão metodológica relacionada ao texto, em sua condição marcada e não marcada. Conclui-se pela necessidade de se introduzir formalmente o ensino de estratégias metacognitivas no treinamento de leitura do indexador.

This research aimed to identify similarities and differences in the use of the following metacognitive strategies between proficient readers professional indexers and non-indexers: monitoring non-comprehension, hypothesis construction, the relation between sentence and paragraph, question-&-answer, the mental development of summarization, value judgment, repetition and recall. The method applied was the verbal (think-aloud) protocol which allows for the retention of individual reports of personal cognitive processes during the exercise of the task, or to the extent that these can be recalled. The reading of two texts was applied to seven indexers and to seven informants of a control group. The results show that the indexers read in a similar way to the control group, differentiated only in terms of strategies of summary construction. The methodological question related to the markedness or non-markedness of the text was also tested. The conclusion was in favor of the need to formally introduce the teaching of metacognitive strategies in the training of the indexer in reading.

Apresenta as possibilidades de inter-relação entre a ciência da informação e os estudos relativos à cognição humana. Discute resultados de pesquisas sobre processamento da informação na psicologia cognitiva referentes ao desempenho dos indivíduos na leitura e na aquisição de conhecimento, assim como na transformação de informação em conhecimento. Focaliza estudos sobre a cognição e metacognição e a importância dessa abordagem para a recuperação de informação, assim como o processo de indexação em sistemas de informação.

This article presents the possibilities of relationship between information science and human cognition. In this regard, discusses research results on information processing within the cognitive psychology field. Such studies are concerned with the performance of individuals in reading skills, knowledge acquisition and transforming information onto knowledge. It focus on studies about human cognition and metacognition and the importance of this approach to information retrieval and indexing procedures in the context of information systems.

Avaliação da análise de conteúdo que apresentam repertórios brasileiros em Agricultura (Agrobase e Base de Dados da Pesquisa Agropecuária), Ciência da Informação (Lici), e Direito (Bibliografia Brasileira de Direito). Após identificar os antecedentes, natureza, usuários potenciais e tipo de produto oferecido por cada um dos repertórios, mediu-se a percentagem da exaustividade de sua cobertura. As tarefas relativas à avaliação da indexação e do resumo se fizeram a partir da seleção de 20 registros de cada um deles, que foram comparados mediante inspeção direta com os correspondentes originais. Utilizou-se também um questionário para determinar a linguagem documental e os critérios utilizados para fazer a análise. Atendeu-se especialmente ao exame da indexação e do resumo feitos no original, assim como sua profundidade e pertinência, medindo-se inclusive o índice de consistência quando possível. Os resumos foram estudados de acordo com o translado da superestrutura do original e a sua qualidade técnica, medindo-se os seus fatores de legibilidade. Os resultados foram apresentados por meio de dados comparativos.

Evaluation of content analysis which the Brazilian repertories in Agriculture (Agrobase and the Data Base of Agricultural and Animal Husbandry Research), Information Science (LICI), and Law (Brazilian Bibliography of Law) present. After identifying the antecedents, nature, potential users and type of product offered by each of these repertories, a percentage measure of the exhaustive breadth of their coverage was carried out. The tasks related to the evaluation of the indexing and abstracts were made based on a selection of twenty cases for each, which were compared by means of direct inspection with the corresponding originals. A questionnaire was also used to determine the documentary language and the criteria employed to carry out the analysis. Special attention was given to an examination of the indexing and abstract presented in the original, as well as their depth and relevance, measuring where possible the index of consistency. The abstracts were studied in accordance with the transcription of the superstructure of the original and its technical quality, measuring the factors of legibility. The results were presented by means of comparative tables.
