Abstract Objective To evaluate clinical characteristics and outcomes of COVID-19 patients infected with HIV, and to compare with a paired sample without HIV infection. Methods This is a substudy of a Brazilian multicentric cohort that comprised two periods (2020 and 2021). Data was obtained through the retrospective review of medical records. Primary outcomes were admission to the intensive care unit, invasive mechanical ventilation, and death. Patients with HIV and controls were matched for age, sex, number of comorbidities, and hospital of origin using the technique of propensity score matching (up to 4:1). They were compared using the Chi-Square or Fisher's Exact tests for categorical variables and the Wilcoxon for numerical variables. Results Throughout the study, 17,101 COVID-19 patients were hospitalized, and 130 (0.76%) of those were infected with HIV. The median age was 54 (IQR: 43.0;64.0) years in 2020 and 53 (IQR: 46.0;63.5) years in 2021, with a predominance of females in both periods. People Living with HIV (PLHIV) and their controls showed similar prevalence for admission to the ICU and invasive mechanical ventilation requirement in the two periods, with no significant differences. In 2020, in-hospital mortality was higher in the PLHIV compared to the controls (27.9% vs. 17.7%; p = 0.049), but there was no difference in mortality between groups in 2021 (25.0% vs. 25.1%; p > 0.999). Conclusions Our results reiterate that PLHIV were at higher risk of COVID-19 mortality in the early stages of the pandemic, however, this finding did not sustain in 2021, when the mortality rate is similar to the control group.

RESUMO Objetivo A cetamina apresenta-se como uma alternativa promissora contra a depressão resistente ao tratamento (DRT), no entanto o conhecimento de sua aplicação como antidepressivo ainda é restrito. Diante disso, objetivou-se investigar sua eficácia em pacientes com DRT. Métodos A busca da literatura foi efetuada na base de dados MedLine. Os critérios de inclusão foram: estudos clínicos controlados e randomizados dos últimos cinco anos e em inglês. Excluímos os artigos que não responderam à pergunta PICO e aqueles com tamanho de amostra e metodologia de estudo destoantes, quando comparados aos ensaios que basearam esta revisão. Resultados Considerando uma amostra final de seis artigos, observou-se uma melhor resposta à cetamina (principalmente em ganho de humor), quando comparada ao tratamento convencional contra a DRT. Já com sua primeira infusão, na dose de 0,5 mg/kg, foi possível perceber seus efeitos antidepressivos. A manutenção desses efeitos parece ser obtida com a administração de 0,5 mg/kg do medicamento, três vezes por semana. Por outro lado, a redução de tal dosagem pode diminuir ou anular os efeitos. Conclusões O uso da cetamina apresentou resultados efetivos na melhora do quadro de DRT, com efeitos adversos de pequena gravidade e de fácil controle. Entretanto, outros estudos, com amostras maiores e métodos diferentes, são necessários, para uma conclusão de maior consistência.

ABSTRACT Objective Ketamine presents itself as a promising alternative against treatment-resistant depression (TRD), however, the knowledge of its application as an antidepressant is still restricted. Therefore, the objective was to investigate its effectiveness in patients with TRD. Methods The literature search was carried out in the MedLine database. Inclusion criteria were: controlled and randomized clinical studies from the last five years and in English. We excluded articles that did not answer the PICO question and those with different sample size and study methodology, when compared to the tests that based this review. Results Considering a final sample of six articles, a better response to ketamine was observed (mainly in mood gain), when compared to conventional treatment against TRD. With its first infusion, at a dose of 0.5 mg/kg, it was possible to notice its antidepressant effects. The maintenance of these effects seems to be achieved with the administration of 0.5 mg/kg of the drug, three times a week. On the other hand, the reduction of such a dosage can diminish or cancel the effects. Conclusions The use of ketamine showed effective results improving the condition of TRD, with adverse effects of small severity and easy control. However, further studies, with larger samples and different methods, are needed, for a more consistent conclusion.

RESUMEN Juntas, Conyza bonariensis, C. canadensis y C. sumatrensis presentan 105 casos reportados de biotipos resistentes a herbicidas tales como glifosato, paraquat y los inhibidores de la acetolactato sintasa (ALS). Se cree que la aplicación de herbicidas pre-emergentes en mezclas con desecantes es efectiva para controlar Conyza spp. en el manejo pre-siembra de la soya. El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar la eficacia de sulfentrazona/ diuron, imazetapir/flumioxazin y diclosulam, en mezcla con diquat, paraquat o glufosinato, en el control de Conyza spp. Se realizaron dos experimentos de campo en diseño de bloques al azar con cuatro repeticiones. Los tratamientos consistieron en la aplicación de herbicidas pre-emergentes en mezclas con desecantes, además del tratamiento control (sin aplicación), para un total de 10 tratamientos. El control de Conyza spp. se evaluó a los 7, 14, 21, 28 y 35 d después de la aplicación del herbicida, y se evaluaron los síntomas de daño en las plantas de soya a los 14, 21, 28 y 35 d después de la aplicación del herbicida. Los herbicidas sulfentrazona/diuron, imazetapir/flumioxazin y diclosulam en mezclas con diquat, paraquat o glufosinato, fueron efectivos para controlar Conyza spp. en la pre-siembra de la soya, destacando buenas opciones para la rotación de herbicidas antes y después de la emergencia. Las mezclas con diclosulam mostraron un mayor potencial de daño a las plantas de soya que sulfentrazona/diuron y imazetapir/flumioxazin.

The application of pre-emergent herbicides combined with burndown herbicides is believed to be effective in controlling Conyza spp. during soybean pre-sowing management. The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of sulfen-trazone/diuron, imazethapyr/flumioxazin, and diclosulam in mixtures with diquat, paraquat, or glufosinate on the control of Conyza spp. Two field experiments were conducted in a randomized block design with four replicates. Treatments consisted of the application of pre-emergent plus burndown herbicides, besides the weedy control treatment (without application), for a total of 10 treatments. The control of Conyza spp. was evaluated at 7, 14, 21, 28, and 35 d after herbicide application, and symptoms of injury in soybean plants were evaluated at 14, 21, 28, and 35 d after herbicide application. The herbicides sulfentrazone/diuron, imazethapyr/flumioxazin, and diclosulam in combination with burndown herbicides diquat, paraquat, or glufosinate were effective in controlling Conyza spp. in the pre-sowing management of soybean, highlighting good options for pre- and post-emergent herbicide rotations. Mixtures with diclosulam showed a higher potential for injury to soybean plants than sulfentrazone/diuron and imazethapyr/flumioxazin.

OBJECTIVES: This observational, cross-sectional study based aimed to test whether heart failure (HF)-disease management program (DMP) components are influencing care and clinical decision-making in Brazil. METHODS: The survey respondents were cardiologists recommended by experts in the field and invited to participate in the survey via printed form or email. The survey consisted of 29 questions addressing site demographics, public versus private infrastructure, HF baseline data of patients, clinical management of HF, performance indicators, and perceptions about HF treatment. RESULTS: Data were obtained from 98 centers (58% public and 42% private practice) distributed across Brazil. Public HF-DMPs compared to private HF-DMP were associated with a higher percentage of HF-DMP-dedicated services (79% vs 24%; OR: 12, 95% CI: 94-34), multidisciplinary HF (MHF)-DMP [84% vs 65%; OR: 3; 95% CI: 1-8), HF educational programs (49% vs 18%; OR: 4; 95% CI: 1-2), written instructions before hospital discharge (83% vs 76%; OR: 1; 95% CI: 0-5), rehabilitation (69% vs 39%; OR: 3; 95% CI: 1-9), monitoring (44% vs 29%; OR: 2; 95% CI: 1-5), guideline-directed medical therapy-HF use (94% vs 85%; OR: 3; 95% CI: 0-15), and less B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) dosage (73% vs 88%; OR: 3; 95% CI: 1-9), and key performance indicators (37% vs 60%; OR: 3; 95% CI: 1-7). In comparison to non- MHF-DMP, MHF-DMP was associated with more educational initiatives (42% vs 6%; OR: 12; 95% CI: 1-97), written instructions (83% vs 68%; OR: 2: 95% CI: 1-7), rehabilitation (69% vs 17%; OR: 11; 95% CI: 3-44), monitoring (47% vs 6%; OR: 14; 95% CI: 2-115), GDMT-HF (92% vs 83%; OR: 3; 95% CI: 0-15). In addition, there were less use of BNP as a biomarker (70% vs 84%; OR: 2; 95% CI: 1-8) and key performance indicators (35% vs 51%; OR: 2; 95% CI: 91,6) in the non-MHF group. Physicians considered changing or introducing new medications mostly when patients were hospitalized or when observing worsening disease and/or symptoms. Adherence to drug treatment and non-drug treatment factors were the greatest medical problems associated with HF treatment. CONCLUSION: HF-DMPs are highly heterogeneous. New strategies for HF care should consider the present study highlights and clinical decision-making processes to improve HF patient care.

Resumo A mais comentada imagem científica em 2019 foi a imagem de M87*, buraco negro supermassivo central da galáxia Messier 87. A partir da observação da colaboração Event Horizon Telescope, fomos capazes de ver um buraco negro. Na verdade, a famosa imagem mostra-nos a sombra de M87*. Neste artigo, será introduzido o conceito de sombra de um buraco negro e indicada a sua importância para pesquisas nas áreas de gravitação e cosmologia.

Abstract The most commented scientific image in 2019 was the image of M87*, the central supermassive black hole at the Messier 87 galaxy. From the Event Horizon Telescope's observation, we were able to see a black hole. Indeed, the famous image shows us the shadow of M87*. In this article, the concept of black hole shadow will be introduced as well as its importance to researches in gravitation and cosmology.

Resumo Diante de um cenário econômico onde a concorrência é cada vez mais acirrada, a busca por processos, técnicas e equipamentos de soldagem que proporcionem ganhos na produtividade é uma exigência para garantir a competitividade das empresas no mercado. Com o desenvolvimento e a adoção de novas tecnologias é possível inovar os processos convencionais, otimizando o desempenho e aumentando a produtividade dos mesmos, sem detrimento dos requisitos de qualidade exigidos. O processo de soldagem arco submerso permite a obtenção de juntas soldadas de excelente qualidade e produtividade e, com a utilização de múltiplos arames, é possível aumentar ainda mais a taxa de deposição. Entretanto, o emprego de múltiplos arames implica na necessidade de maiores correntes e, mesmo com o aumento da velocidade de soldagem, o aporte de calor sofre um acréscimo considerável, o que pode afetar a tenacidade da junta. Assim, em estruturas soldadas onde há requisitos de impacto torna-se necessário avaliar os efeitos dos altos aportes de calor. Neste trabalho foi comparada a tenacidade de duas juntas soldadas em aço carbono ASTM A36 pelo processo arco submerso, sendo a primeira soldada com arco simples e a outra com arco duplo (Tandem-Arc). Após a soldagem, as peças de testes foram submetidas ao tratamento térmico de alívio de tensões (TTAT) e submetidas aos ensaios de tração, dobramento, impacto Charpy, perfil de dureza Vickers, exame macrográfico e caracterização microestrutural realizada por meio de microscopia óptica. Os resultados obtidos em todos os ensaios foram considerados satisfatórios e aprovados, mostrando assim que é possível o emprego do processo Tandem-Arc na soldagem de aços carbono quando há requisitos de impacto.

Abstract Faced with an economic scenario where competition is increasingly intense, the search for processes, techniques and welding equipment that provide gains in productivity is a requirement to ensure the competitiveness of companies in the market. With the development and adoption of new technologies it is possible to innovate the conventional processes, optimizing the performance and increasing their productivity, without detriment to the required quality requirements. The process of submerged arc welding allows the obtainment of welded joints of excellent quality and productivity and, with the use of multiple wires, it is possible to increase the deposition rate even further. However, the use of multiple wires implies the need for higher currents and, even with increasing welding speed, the heat input increases considerably, which can affect the tenacity of the joint. Thus, in welded structures where there are impact requirements it becomes necessary to evaluate the effects of high heat inputs. In this work the strength of two welded joints in ASTM A36 carbon steel was compared by the submerged arc process, the first being welded with single arc and the other with double arc (Tandem-Arc). After welding, the test pieces were submitted to tensile stress treatment (TTAT) and subjected to tensile tests, folding, Charpy impact, Vickers hardness profile, macrographic examination and microstructural characterization performed using optical microscopy. The results obtained in all tests were considered satisfactory and approved, thus showing that it is possible to use the Tandem-Arc process in the welding of carbon steels when there are impact requirements.

A recente observação das ondas gravitacionais corrobora uma das mais interessantes previsões da relatividade geral: os buracos negros. Pois as ondas gravitacionais detectadas pela colaboração LIGO ajustam-se muito bem dentro da teoria da relatividade geral como um fenômeno produzido pela colisão de dois buracos negros. Sendo assim, a realidade física dos buracos negros parece ainda mais inegável hoje. Embora, uma mais contundente prova sobre a existência de buracos negros seria dada pela observação do seu horizonte de eventos, aquilo que o define. Neste artigo, é indicado que somente o horizonte de eventos define um buraco negro. Em sua definição, não há menção à singularidade em seu interior. Mostrar-se-á, assim, que buracos negros sem singularidade são possíveis. Tais são hoje chamados de buracos negros regulares.

The recent observation of gravitational waves confirms one of the most interesting predictions in general relativity: the black holes. Because the gravitational waves detected by LIGO fit very well within general relativity as a phenomenon produced by two colliding black holes. Then the reality of black holes seems almost undoubted today. However, a stronger proof on the reality of black holes would be indicated by the observation of the event horizon, which is what defines it. In this article, it is indicated that only the event horizon defines a black hole. There is no mention to the singularity in its definition. Thus, it will be shown that black holes without a singularity are possible. Such black holes are called regular black holes.

ABSTRACT Organic fertilizers derived from poultry litter and pig slurry are alternatives to mineral fertilizers in increasing soil nutrient availability. The aim of this study was to evaluate soil response, through characterization of organic C and available N, P, and K contents, and corn yield response to increasing amounts of poultry litter, pig slurry, and mineral fertilizers in an integrated crop-livestock production system (ICL) from 2011 to 2013. The experimental design consisted of randomized blocks in a 4 × 3 + 1 factorial arrangement with four replicates. The treatments consisted of four types of fertilizer, two organic (poultry litter and pig slurry) and two mineral, balanced with the same amounts of N, P and K as the organic fertilizers, one of which corresponded to the levels in the pig slurry (M1) and the other to the levels in the poultry litter (M2) in combination with three .increasing application rates of N (100, 200, and 300 kg ha-1 N) and control without fertilizer. For two years after implementing the ICL system, the application of the different rates of N using organic (pig slurry and poultry litter) or mineral (M1 and M2) fertilizers increased corn yields and K and P availability in the soil; these results were accompanied by small changes in organic C and total N content. There are similar efficiencies between the treatments pairs (pig slurry/M1 and poultry litter/M2).

Resumo:Destaca-se na filosofia nietzschiana a importância do conceito de força proveniente da física para a construção de um dos seus principais conceitos: a vontade de potência. O conceito de força, que Nietzsche buscou na mecânica clássica, quase desaparece na física do século XX com a teoria quântica de campos e a teoria da relatividade geral. Ainda é possível, na ciência de hoje, o mundo nietzschiano como forças em disputa, uma cosmologia dionisíaca?

Abstract:In the Nietzschean philosophy, the concept of force from physics is important to build one of its main concepts: the will to power. The concept of force, which Nietzsche found out in the Classical Mechanics, almost disappears in the physics of the XX century with the Quantum Field Theory and General Relativity. Is the Nietzschean world as contending forces, a Dionysian cosmology, possible in the current science?

El artículo analiza la formación de una comunidad psiquiátrica transnacional, donde médicos brasileños y alemanes realizaron un intenso intercambio científico, especialmente después de la Primera Guerra Mundial. En Alemania, Emil Kraepelin (1856-1926) dio nuevas directrices para la investigación psiquiátrica y estableció un modelo de producción del conocimiento psicológico y neuropsiquiátrico, a través de diversas especialidades científicas. En Brasil, los médicos Juliano Moreira (1873-1933) y Ulysses Vianna (1880-1935) fueron responsables de la apropiación del programa kraepeliano y de la circulación de médicos, conocimientos y modelos institucionales, entre los dos países. En el campo de la medicina mental, se constata el desarrollo de una nueva forma de producción de conocimiento científico, con énfasis en laboratorio, y de acercamiento con el paradigma biológico y experimental.

This article analyzes the formation of a transnational community in which Brazilian and German psychiatrists provided intense scientific exchanges, especially after World War I. In Germany, Emil Kraepelin (1856-1926) gave new directions for the psychiatric research and established a model of production of the psychological and neuropsychiatric knowledge with various scientific specialties. In Brazil, as physicians Juliano Moreira (18731933) and Ulysses Vianna (1880-1935) were responsible of the reception of kraepelian's program, as well as the circulation of physicians, knowledge and institutional models across the two countries. This research highlighted that mental medicine establishes a new form of production of scientific knowledge, with emphasis on laboratory and closer to the biological and experimental bias.

Este trabalho teve como objetivo comparar matrizes pesadas na fase de incubação em incubatório, utilizando o método Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). Esse método é uma técnica de análise de decisão e planejamento de múltiplos critérios. O trabalho foi conduzido em incubatório comercial localizado no Estado de São Paulo, Brasil. Duas idades de matrizes pesadas (42 e 56 semanas) foram comparadas em relação a dados/taxa de produção. Dados de índice de produção foram submetidos à análise de decisão utilizando o método AHP. Os resultados indicaram que as matrizes de frangos de corte de 42 semanas apresentaram melhor desempenho do que aquelas de 56 semanas. A fase da incubadora é mais crítica do que a fase do nascedouro. O método AHP foi eficiente para a análise e pode ser utilizado como base metodológica para estudos futuros para melhorar a eclodibilidade.

This research aimed to compare two female broiler breeder ages during the incubation period regarding management using the Analytic Hierarchy Process method (AHP). This method is characterized by the possibility of analyzing a multicriteria problem and assists a decision making. This study was carried out on a commercial hatchery located in São Paulo, Brazil. Two ages of broiler breeder (42 and 56 weeks) were compared relative to production rate. Production index data were the same in both ages and were submitted to multicriteria decision analysis using the AHP method. The results indicate that broiler breeders of 42 weeks presented better performance than those of 56 week-old. The setter phase (incubation) is more critical than the hatcher. The AHP method was efficient for this analysis and can serve as a methodological basis for future studies to improve the hatchability of broilers eggs.

Trata da circulação da ciência psiquiátrica alemã no Brasil no início do século XX. Especificamente, discorre sobre a apropriação de teorias e práticas de Emil Kraepelin, tanto por Juliano Moreira, diretor do Hospício Nacional de Alienados e da Assistência a Alienados do Distrito Federal (Rio de Janeiro), quanto pelo grupo de médicos que ele aglutinou em torno de si, entre 1903 e 1933. Discute os modos pelos quais Kraepelin foi acionado, levando em consideração o repertório médico-mental existente no período, o contexto político e científico e as controvérsias internas ao campo psiquiátrico nacional. Finalmente, busca analisar tais escolhas a partir das relações que se estabeleceram entre a psiquiatria do Brasil e da Alemanha no período.

The article addresses the penetration of German psychiatric science in early twentieth-century Brazil. More specifically, it explores how the theory and practices of Emil Kraepelin were absorbed by both Juliano Moreira, director of the National Hospital for the Insane (Hospício Nacional de Alienados) and of the agency for Assistance to the Insane (Assistência a Alienados) in the Federal District (Rio de Janeiro), and also by the circle of physicians with close ties to Moreira from 1903 to 1933. It discusses the ways in which Kraepelin's work was adopted, taking into account the day's medical-mental repertoire, the political and scientific context, and the controversies within the Brazilian psychiatric field. Lastly, the study analyzes these choices based on the prevailing relations between Brazilian and German psychiatry back then.

Neste trabalho, realizamos uma aproximação entre as cosmologias científicas não singulares (sem a singularidade inicial, o big bang), especialmente os modelos cíclicos, e o pensamento do eterno retorno de Nietzsche. Além disso, sugerimos respostas para o porquê da busca por "provas" científicas do eterno retorno feita pelo filósofo na década de 1880.

In this work we have carried out an approach between the nonsingular scientific cosmologies (without the initial singularity, the big bang), specially the cyclic models, and the Nietzsche's thought of the eternal recurrence. Moreover, we have pointed out reasons for the Nietzsche's search for scientific proofs about the eternal recurrence in the decade of 1880's.

Este trabalho busca analisar as preferências de aprendizagem de alunos de cursos superiores na área de Ciências Exatas, de maneira a verificar que aspectos das principais teorias de aprendizagem se tornam mais adequados a este perfil de aluno. Para isso, foram observados os principais elementos das Teorias de Ensino e Aprendizagem Comportamentalista, Construtivista, Sociointeracionista, Racionalista e Significativa, e sintetizados em um formulário de perguntas de múltipla escolha. Foi estudado um grupo de alunos de uma Universidade da cidade São Paulo, sendo 26 alunos do primeiro ano do curso de Ciência da Computação e 22 alunos de Engenharia Mecânica, formando uma população de 48 alunos. Os resultados desta pesquisa são explicitados e algumas considerações a respeito são apresentadas neste artigo.

This paper aims to analyze some learning preferences of undergraduate BSc students in order to verify which aspects of the major Learning Theories are more adequate to such profile. In order to perform this, the core elements of Behaviorism, Constructivism, Social Interactionism, Rationalism and Meaningful Learning theories were observed and synthesized into a form with multiple choice questions. A group of students from a University in São Paulo city was chosen, being composed by 26 Computer Sciences students and 22 Mechanical Engineering students, totalizing 48 students. The results of this research, followed by some considerations, are presented in this paper.

The increasing consumption of juices, soft drinks and teas among children has increased significantly fluoride ingestion at the age range of risk for development of dental fluorosis. Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate fluoride concentrations in some brands of industrialized beverages consumed by children in the city of Bauru, SP, Brazil. Material and Methods: 98 brands of beverages were analyzed, divided into 3 lots, comprising 36, 32 and 30 brands, respectively, for the first, second and third lots. Fluoride concentrations were determined by HMDS-facilitated diffusion, using a fluoride ion-specific electrode (Orion 9409). Results: Fluoride concentrations ranged between 0.04 and 1.76 µg F/mL. It was observed a wide variation in fluoride concentrations among the different brands, as well as the different lots of the same brand. There was no information on fluoride concentrations on the labels of any product. Conclusions: Some of the products analyzed could contribute significantly to the total fluoride intake and, thus, be important risk factors for development of dental fluorosis, which indicates the need of controlling the production of these beverages with respect to fluoride concentration.
