RESUMO Conservar o nível desejável de qualidade do solo, especialmente prezando sua saúde e sustentabilidade, não é tarefa simples, devido aos inúmeros fatores que o influenciam. Objetivou-se mensurar a atividade alimentar da fauna do solo em sistemas de produção sob palhadas de plantas de cobertura amostradas à profundidade de 0-8,0 cm. Foi adotado delineamento em blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições e oito tratamentos, que corresponderam ao cultivo de soja sob palhadas de plantas de cobertura: monocultivo de milho; milho consorciado com Urochloa ruziziensis; monocultivo de U. ruziziensis; sorgo consorciado com U. ruziziensis; monocultivo de sorgo; girassol consorciado com U. ruziziensis; mix (milheto + Crotalaria spectabilis + U. ruziziensis) e pousio. À profundidade de 1,0 cm, houve variação de 63,59-37,06 % no consumo entre os tratamentos, com maior consumo para o mix, em comparação ao pousio. À profundidade de 2,0-7,0 cm, o consumo não variou entre os tratamentos. Para a profundidade de 8,0 cm, o pousio apresentou o maior consumo (45,76 %; p < 0,05), em comparação ao girassol consorciado com U. ruziziensis (20,51 %), sorgo (20,58 %) e sorgo consorciado com U. ruziziensis (18,96 %).

ABSTRACT To preserve a desirable level of soil quality, especially taking into consideration its health and sustainability, is not an easy task, due to the numerous factors that influence it. This study aimed to measure the feeding activity of soil fauna in production systems under cover crop straws sampled at the depth of 0-8.0 cm. A randomized blocks design, with four replicates and eight treatments, was used, corresponding to soybean cultivation under the following cover crop straws: maize monoculture; maize intercropped with Urochloa ruziziensis; U. ruziziensis monoculture; sorghum intercropped with U. ruziziensis; sorghum monoculture; sunflower intercropped with U. ruziziensis; mix (millet + Crotalaria spectabilis + U. ruziziensis); and a fallow treatment. At the depth of 1.0 cm, there was a variation of 63.59-37.06 % for consumption among the treatments, with the highest consumption for the mix, if compared to the fallow treatment. At the depth of 2.0-7.0 cm, the consumption did not vary among the treatments. For the depth of 8.0 cm, the fallow treatment presented the highest consumption (45.76 %; p < 0.05), when compared to sunflower intercropped with U. ruziziensis (20.51 %), sorghum (20.58 %) and sorghum intercropped with U. ruziziensis (18.96 %).

Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar os efeitos adversos potenciais de agrominerais sobre o comportamento de fuga de minhocas e colêmbolos, bem como a sobrevivência e a reprodução de enquitreídeos, em testes ecotoxicológicos com solos artificial e natural. Os testes foram realizados seguindo normas internacionais (ISO 17512-2/2011, ISO 11267/1999 e NBR ISO 16387/2012), com algumas adaptações, para avaliar o efeito de pós de duas rochas silicáticas, biotita xisto e fonolito, nas concentrações de 0, 0,1, 1,0, 10 e 100%, em solos artificial e naturais (Neossolo e Latossolo). Foram avaliados o comportamento de fuga da minhoca Eisenia andrei e do colêmbola Folsomia candida, além da sobrevivência e da reprodução do enquitreídeo Enchytraeus sp. Biotita xisto e fonolito afetaram negativamente o comportamento das minhocas quando aplicados no solo, em concentrações iguais ou superiores a 1,0%. O efeito observado foi associado à maior presença de sais, principalmente no fonolito, e a mudanças na textura do solo quando concentrações maiores foram usadas. Efeitos negativos em colêmbolos e enquitreídeos foram verificados em concentrações de 10% ou com pós de rocha puros. Doses agronômicas com concentrações menores que 1,0% de pós de rocha (aproximadamente 20 Mg ha-1) não causam comportamento de fuga ou redução na sobrevivência e na reprodução de invertebrados no solo.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the possible adverse effects of rock dusts on the avoidance behavior of earthworms and collembolans, as well as on the survival and reproduction of enchytraeids, in ecotoxicological tests using artificial and natural soils. The tests were performed following international guidelines (ISO 17512-2/2011, ISO 11267/1999, and NBR ISO 16387/2012), with some adaptations, in order to evaluate the effect of dusts from two silicate rocks, biotite schist and phonolite, at the concentrations of 0, 0.1, 1.0, 10, and 100%, in artificial and natural (Arenosol and Ferralsol) soils. The avoidance behavior of the earthworm Eisenia andrei and the collembolan Folsomia candida was evaluated, as well as the survival and reproduction of the enchytraeid Enchytraeus sp. Biotite schist and phonolite affected negatively earthworms when applied to the soil at concentrations equal to or higher than 1.0%. The observed effect was associated to the greater presence of salts, especially in the phonolite, and to changes in soil texture when higher concentrations were used. Negative effects on collembolans and enchytraeids were verified at concentrations of 10% or using pure rock dusts. Agronomic rates smaller than 1.0% (approximately 20 Mg ha-1) rock dusts do not cause avoidance behavior or reduction in the survival and reproduction of invertebrates in the soil.

RESUMO: Os organismos da macrofauna edáfica são fundamentais para a manutenção da qualidade do solo. O objetivo deste trabalho foi caracterizar a macrofauna edáfica sob diferentes espécies de plantas de cobertura, incluindo monocultura ou cultivo consorciado associados a dois tipos de manejo do solo no sudoeste do Piauí. O estudo foi realizado em Latossolo Amarelo (Sistema Brasileiro de Classificação de Solos) no município de Bom Jesus, Piauí, distribuídos em parcelas de 30 m2. O experimento e avaliação da macrofauna edáfica foram conduzidos em um ensaio fatorial em faixas 9 × 2, com combinações entre culturas /consórcios de cobertura e manejo do solo (com ou sem preparo), com quatro repetições. Os monólitos de solo (0,25 × 0,25 m) foram retirados aleatoriamente de cada parcela, para contagem da macrofauna, nas camadas de 0‒0,1, 0,1‒0,2, e 0,2-0,3 m de profundidade, inclusive liteira de superfície. Após a identificação e contagem dos organismos, foi determinada a densidade relativa de cada táxon em cada profundidade. A abundância total da macrofauna edáfica quantificada no experimento foi de 2.408 ind.m-2, distribuídos em 6 classes, 16 ordens e 31 famílias. Os resultados da análise multivariada revelaram que espécies de gramíneas em sistemas de cultivo solteiro e plantio direto favoreceram maior densidade da macrofauna, em especial do grupo taxonômico Isoptera. A ausência de preparo também proporcionou maior riqueza de famílias, destacando-se o grupo taxonômico Coleoptera adulto em plantio direto e Hemiptera em plantio convencional.

ABSTRACT: The soil macrofauna is fundamental for the maintenance of soil quality. The aim of this study was to characterize the soil macrofauna under different species of cover crops, including monoculture or intercropping associated to two types of soil management in the southwest region of Piauí state. The study was carried out in an Oxisol (Latossolo Amarelo, according to Brazilian Soil Classification System) in the municipality of Bom Jesus, Piauí, distributed in 30 m2 plots. Testing and evaluation of the soil macrofauna were conducted in a 9 × 2 strip factorial design, with combinations between cover crops/consortia and soil management (with or without tillage), with four replications. Soil monoliths (0.25 × 0.25 m) were randomly sampled in each plot for macrofauna at 0‒0.1, 0.1‒0.2, and 0.2‒0.3 m depth, including surface litter. After identification and counting of soil organims, the relative density of each taxon in each depth was determined. The total abundance of soil macrofauna quantified under cover crops in the conventional and no-tillage system was 2,408 ind. m-2, distributed in 6 classes, 16 orders, and 31 families. The results of multivariate analysis show that grass species in sole cropping systems and no-tillage presents higher macrofauna density, in particular the taxonomic group Isoptera. No-tillage also provided higher richness of families, where Coleoptera adult were the second more abundant group in no-tillage and Hemiptera in conventional tillage.

Resumo: Vários estudos têm caracterizado e delimitado assembleias de formigas subterrâneas. A extração de solo, um dos métodos utilizados para amostragem dessa fala, implica na remoção de monólitos. Um dos métodos mais utilizados na extração de monólitos é chamado TSBF (desenvolvido pelo Programa Tropical Soil Biology and Fertility). Esse método fornece dados extremamente relevantes sobre as espécies associadas ao solo. No presente estudo, nós caracterizamos as assembleias de formigas subterrâneas usando o método TSBF em diferentes áreas subtropicais do Neotrópico. Utilizamos dois delineamentos amostrais distintos. O primeiro delineamento resultou em 315 amostras de TSBF obtidas a partir da estratificação do solo. O segundo resultou em 270 amostras de TSBF mais 270 provenientes de armadilhas pitfall epigeicas. Esse material foi utilizado para delimitar espécies que ocorrem exclusivamente no estrato subterrâneo (TSBF) e não são encontradas na superfície do solo. Registramos um total de 281 espécies. Destas, 57 podem ser consideradas subterrâneas (baseado na ocorrência no respectivo estrato). Também verificamos que a maior ocorrência de formigas se deu nos primeiros 10 cm de profundidade. Devido à importância do uso de métodos que coletem eficientemente formigas subterrâneas, sugerimos o uso do método TSBF em estudos de estratificação de comunidades ou sua associação a armadilhas do tipo pitfall epigeica para delimitar assembleias estritamente subterrâneas.

Abstract: Several studies have characterized and delimited subterranean ant assemblages. Soil extraction, one of the methods employed to access this fauna, employs the removal of monoliths. One of the most widely used methods for the extraction of soil sampling is called TSBF (developed by the Tropical Soil Biology and Fertility Programme). This method provides relevant data about the species associated with the soil. In the present study we characterized assemblages of subterranean ants using the TSBF method in different subtropical areas of the Neotropics. We considered two sampling designs in different localities. The first design resulted in 315 TSBF samples obtained from layers at distinct depths. The second design resulted in 270 TSBF samples and 270 epigaeic pitfall trap samples. This material was used to delimit the species that occur exclusively in the subterranean stratum (TSBF) and that are not found on the soil surface. A total of 281 species were recorded. Of these, 57 can be considered subterranean, based on their occurrence in subterranean strata. We also verified that the highest occurrence of ants was in the first 10 cm of soil depth. Due to the importance of using methods that efficiently extract the subterranean ant fauna in studies, we suggest the TSBF method should be used to sample ants or to associate this method with epigaeic pitfall traps to delimit strictly subterranean assemblages in specific community stratification studies.

Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi caracterizar a macrofauna edáfica em sistemas de produção de grãos sob plantio direto e convencional no Sudoeste do Piauí, na região de Matopiba. Amostras de solo foram coletadas nas camadas de 0,0-0,1, 0,1-0,2 e 0,2-0,3 m, com serrapilheira, em áreas cultivadas predominantemente com milho e soja, sob preparo convencional e plantio direto, em solos com diferentes texturas. Remanescentes de vegetação nativa adjacentes foram amostrados como referência. A macrofauna edáfica nos diferentes sistemas de uso do solo foi identificada até o nível de famílias, as quais foram agrupadas de acordo com suas funções ecológicas. Os grupos mais abundantes nas áreas amostradas foram Isoptera, Hymenoptera e Coleoptera, este com o maior número de famílias. A análise de componentes principais revelou que os grupos funcionais geófago/bioturbador, fitófago/praga e predador/parasita estão associados a solos de textura argilo-siltosa; enquanto o grupo detritívoro/decompositor, a solos mais arenosos. Os sistemas de manejo do solo alteram a estrutura da comunidade de macroinvertebrados edáficos em relação à condição natural de Cerrado. O plantio direto proporciona maior abundância e riqueza de espécies que o preparo convencional, e minimiza o impacto de sistemas agrícolas sobre a biodiversidade da macrofauna edáfica.

Abstract The objective of this work was to characterize the edaphic macrofauna in agricultural grain production systems under no-tillage and conventional tillage, in the Shoutheastern state of Piauí, in the Matopiba region, Brazil. Soil samples were taken from the 0.0-0.1, 0.1-0.2, and 0.2-0.3-m layers, with litter, in areas predominantly cropped with corn and soybean, under conventional and no-tillage systems, in soils with different textures. Fragments of native vegetation in adjacent areas were used as a reference. The edaphic macrofauna in the different land uses was identified down to family level, and the families were grouped according to their ecological functions. The most abundant groups in the sampled areas were Isoptera, Hymenoptera, and Coleoptera, the latter with the highest number of families. Principal component analysis revealed that the functional groups geophages/bioturbators, phytophages/pests, and predators/parasites were associated with clayey-silty soils, and detritivores/decomposers with sandy soils. Soil management systems change the community structure of edaphic macroinvertebrates in comparison with the natural Cerrado condition. No-tillage system promotes greater abundance and species richness than conventional tillage, and minimizes the impact of agricultural systems on edaphic macrofauna biodiversity.
