Abstract Water is the most valuable resource on the planet. Currently, and due to the climate crisis, contemporary societies are faced with structural challenges due to the scarcity of water resources. Traditional ways of managing this resource have not been able to respond to these challenges. Therefore, it is necessary to reflect on social innovative approaches that can contribute to a sustainable transition where water represents an unavoidable dimension. This article argues that water should be managed in an integrated way, with the articulation of different actors so that solutions can take into account territorial specificities and individuals' needs. In this sense, the article mobilises two case studies - the Lajedo de Timbaúba community (Brazil) and the Tamera community (Portugal) - located in territories that recurrently suffer from drought situations to analyse their water retention and management strategies, categorising them as social innovations. The analysis reveals that these small-scale experiences - defined as niches - play a predominant role as places where innovative practices with potential for scalability emerge.

Resumo A água é o recurso mais valioso do planeta. Atualmente, e devido à crise climática, as sociedades contemporâneas são confrontadas com desafios estruturais devido à escassez dos recursos hídricos. As formas de gestão tradicional deste recurso não têm conseguido responder a estes desafios e é, portanto, necessário refletir sobre abordagens socialmente inovadoras que possam contribuir para uma transição sustentável onde a água representa uma dimensão incontornável. Este artigo argumenta que a água deve ser gerida de forma integrada, com a articulação de diferentes atores para que as soluções possam ter em conta especificidades territoriais e necessidades dos indivíduos. Neste sentido, o artigo apresenta dois estudos de caso - a comunidade Lajedo de Timbaúba (Brasil) e a de Tamera (Portugal) - situados em territórios que sofrem recorrentemente com situações de seca para analisar as suas estratégias de retenção e gestão de água, categorizando-as como inovações sociais. A análise revela que estas experiências de pequena escala - definidas como nichos - têm um papel preponderante como locais onde emergem práticas inovadoras com potencial de escalabilidade.

RESUMO Objetivo: Inquérito nacional de cobertura vacinal aos 12 e 24 meses de idade foi realizado para investigar as quedas nas coberturas a partir de 2016. Métodos: Amostra de 37.836 nascidos vivos das coortes de 2017 e 2018 residentes nas capitais, Distrito Federal (DF) e 12 cidades com mais de 100 mil habitantes, acompanhados nos primeiros 24 meses por registros nas cadernetas de vacinação. Setores censitários foram estratificados segundo condições socioeconômicas, e o mesmo número de crianças foi incluído para cada estrato. Calcularem-se coberturas vacinais de cada vacina e coberturas completas aos 12 e 24 meses, doses aplicadas, válidas e oportunas. Fatores familiares, maternos e da criança associados à cobertura foram pesquisados. Os motivos para não vacinar analisados foram: contraindicações médicas, dificuldades de acesso, problemas no funcionamento do programa e hesitação vacinal. Resultados: Os resultados preliminares mostram que menos de 1% das crianças não foram vacinadas, as coberturas pelo esquema completo são menores que 75% em todas as capitais e no DF, as vacinas com mais de uma dose perdem cobertura progressivamente, há diferenças entre os estratos socioeconômicos, favoráveis aos estratos mais altos em algumas cidades e aos estratos mais baixos em outras. Conclusão: Houve realmente redução da cobertura vacinal em todas as capitais e no DF para as crianças nascidas em 2017 e 2018, denotando piora na execução do Programa Nacional de Imunizações durante os anos de 2017 a 2019. O inquérito realizado não mensurou os impactos da pandemia de COVID-19 que podem ter reduzido ainda mais as coberturas vacinais.

ABSTRACT Objective: The national vaccination coverage survey on full vaccination at 12 and 24 months of age was carried out to investigate drops in coverage as of 2016. Methods: A sample of 37,836 live births from the 2017 or 2018 cohorts living in capital cities, the Federal District, and 12 inner cities with 100 thousand inhabitants were followed for the first 24 months through vaccine record cards. Census tracts stratified according to socioeconomic levels had the same number of children included in each stratum. Coverage for each vaccine, full vaccination at 12 and 24 months and number of doses administered, valid and timely, were calculated. Family, maternal and child factors associated with coverage were surveyed. The reasons for not vaccinating analyzed were: medical contraindications, access difficulties, problems with the program, and vaccine hesitancy. Results: Preliminary results showed that less than 1% of children were not vaccinated, full coverage was less than 75% at all capitals and the Federal District, vaccines requiring more than one dose progressively lost coverage, and there were inequalities among socioeconomic strata, favorable to the highest level in some cities and to the lowest in others. Conclusion: There was an actual reduction in full vaccination in all capitals and the Federal District for children born in 2017 and 2018, showing a deteriorating implementation of the National Immunization Program from 2017 to 2019. The survey did not measure the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, which may have further reduced vaccination coverage.

Abstract The study's aim was to evaluate the microbiological, nutritional, textural quality and palatability of pet biscuits made with the inclusion of three flours. The treatments were chicken viscera flour (CVF), commercial Nile tilapia flour (FF) and mixed fish flours of several species (FVF). For the FVF, only the carcasses (backbones) of Nile tilapia, salmon, tuna and sardines were used, and they were washed, whereas FVF as well as the others were cooked for 60 minutes, then pressed, ground and dehydrated for 24 hours at 60° C. After this period, they were crushed and ground for inclusion in the biscuits. The CVF, FF and FVF flours showed 43.82%, 50.48% and 56.70% of crude protein, respectively. CVF had the highest lipid content (10.01%) and FVF had the highest ash content (23.94%) and FVF had the highest caloric value (338.63 kcal 100 g-1). The inclusion of flours in biscuits did not influence the protein and carbohydrate contents, whose average values were 18.48% and 50.23%. However, they influenced the moisture content, lipids, ash and caloric value. Biscuits with the inclusion of viscera (CVF) had the highest lipid content (5.91%) and those with fish had the highest ash content (5.66% and 5.81%) for FF and FVF. Biscuits with FVF had a lower caloric value (318.47 kcal 100 g-1). The microbiological analysis indicated that the biscuits were considered of good quality to feed dogs. Regarding texture and palatability, there was no significant difference between treatments. The inclusion of fish flour, both FF and FVF, is a viable alternative.

Resumo Objetivou-se avaliar a qualidade microbiológica e nutricional, a textura e a palatabilidade de biscoitos pet elaborados com a inclusão de três farinhas. Os tratamentos foram farinha de vísceras de frango (FVC), farinha de tilápia comercial (FF) e mix de farinhas de peixes de várias espécies (FVF). Para FVF, foram utilizadas apenas as carcaças (espinhaço) de tilápia, salmão, atum e sardinha, as quais foram lavadas. Em todos os tratamentos, as farinhas foram cozidas por 60 minutos, depois prensadas, moídas e desidratadas por 24 horas a 60 °C. Decorrido esse período, as farinhas foram trituradas e moídas para inclusão nos biscoitos. As farinhas FVC, FF e FVF apresentaram 43,82%, 50,48% e 56,70% de proteína bruta, respectivamente. A FVC apresentou maior teor lipídico (10,01%) e a FVF, maior teor de cinzas (23,94%) e o maior valor calórico (338,63 kcal 100 g-1). A inclusão das farinhas nos biscoitos não influenciou nos teores de proteína e carboidratos, cujos valores médios foram de 18,48% e 50,23%, respectivamente. Entretanto, influenciaram no teor de umidade, lipídios, cinzas e valor calórico. Os biscoitos com inclusão de vísceras (CVF) apresentaram os maiores teores de lipídeos (5,91%) e aqueles com inclusão pescado maiores teores de cinzas (5,66% e 5,81%) para FF e FVF. Os biscoitos com FVF apresentaram menor valor calórico (318,47 kcal 100 g-1). A análise microbiológica indicou que os biscoitos apresentaram qualidades apropriadas para serem fornecidos a cães. Em relação a textura e aceitabilidade, não houve diferença significativa entre os tratamentos. A inclusão de farinhas de peixe, tanto FF quanto FVF, é uma alternativa viável.

Abstract The Brazilian berry, also known as jaboticaba, has a great antioxidant and anti-inflammatory potential, besides demonstrating positive effects on hormonal regulation and weight loss. Nowadays, both aging and overweight are considered public health issues, promoting metabolic and hormonal changes that have a substantial role in prostate injury. We demonstrated herein that a low dose of jaboticaba peel extract (PJE) is enough to limit the onset of damages and hormone receptor alterations on the anterior prostate in the senile or high-fat diet (HFD) groups. The senile mice (11-months old) received the PJE and/or a HFD for 60 days. The anterior prostates were collected for histopathological, immunohistochemistry and western-blotting analysis. The PJE treatment reduced the epithelium atrophy and inflammatory infiltrate frequencies besides decreasing the androgen receptor (AR); estrogen receptor alpha (ERα); and insulin-like growth factor 1 receptor (IGFR-1) immunoexpression; in the anterior prostate of both senile and HFD-senile mice. However, low prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia (PIN) frequency, reduced immunoexpression of stromal AR and epithelium IGFR-1 were only observed in the anterior prostate of the PJE and HFD-treated groups. HFD intake intensified the aging-induced histopathological and hormonal alterations by further increasing the AR, ERα and IGFR-1 immunoexpression, as well as the PIN lesion incidence in the anterior prostate. Thus, the PJE was able to interfere in the hormonal signaling mediators, protecting the anterior prostate microenvironment and preventing lesion development due to aging associated or not with HFD intake.

Abstract Glyphosate affects ecosystems due to exposure of non-target crops and is a persistent contaminant at low concentrations. The application of palygorskite to reduce glyphosate contamination in Brazil is an environmentally friendly way to remediate impacted areas. This research evaluated palygorskite application for glyphosate adsorption present in a synthetic effluent. Palygorskite samples were ore dressed by wet granulometric classification and wet magnetic separation and submitted to organophilization with cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide solutions at concentrations of 0.01, 0.1, 1.0 and 1.5% (w/w), and the organo-palygorskite was applied in glyphosate adsorption tests. After ore dressing there was an increase in its cation exchange capacity from 19 to 41 meq 100 g-1 and the surface area was 149 g m-2. The 1.0% organo-palygorskite adsorbed about 86% of glyphosate from synthetic aqueous effluent. Based on this high adsorption yield, the organo-palygorskite is a potential adsorbent for remediation of effluents containing the toxic herbicide glyphosate.

Abstract Background Cardiovascular complications of COVID-19 are important aspects of the disease’s pathogenesis and prognosis. Evidence on the prognostic role of troponin and myocardial injury in Latin American hospitalized COVID-19 patients is still scarce. Objectives To evaluate myocardial injury as independent predictor of in-hospital mortality and invasive mechanical ventilation support in hospitalized patients, from the Brazilian COVID-19 Registry. Methods This cohort study is a substudy of the Brazilian COVID-19 Registry, conducted in 31 Brazilian hospitals of 17 cities, March-September 2020. Primary outcomes included in-hospital mortality and invasive mechanical ventilation support. Models for the primary outcomes were estimated by Poisson regression with robust variance, with statistical significance of p<0.05. Results Of 2,925 patients (median age of 60 years [48-71], 57.1% men), 27.3% presented myocardial injury. The proportion of patients with comorbidities was higher among patients with cardiac injury (median 2 [1-2] vs. 1 [0-2]). Patients with myocardial injury had higher median levels of brain natriuretic peptide, lactate dehydrogenase, creatine phosphokinase, N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide, and C-reactive protein than patients without myocardial injury. As independent predictors, C-reactive protein and platelet counts were related to the risk of death, and neutrophils and platelet counts were related to the risk of invasive mechanical ventilation support. Patients with high troponin levels presented a higher risk of death (RR 2.03, 95% CI 1.60-2.58) and invasive mechanical ventilation support (RR 1.87, 95% CI 1.57-2.23), when compared to those with normal troponin levels. Conclusion Cardiac injury was an independent predictor of in-hospital mortality and the need for invasive mechanical ventilation support in hospitalized COVID-19 patients.

Resumo Fundamento As complicações cardiovasculares da COVID-19 são aspectos importantes da patogênese e do prognóstico da doença. Evidências do papel prognóstico da troponina e da lesão miocárdica em pacientes hospitalizados com COVID-19 na América Latina são ainda escassos. Objetivos Avaliar a lesão miocárdica como preditor independente de mortalidade hospitalar e suporte ventilatório mecânico em pacientes hospitalizados, do registro brasileiro de COVID-19. Métodos Este estudo coorte é um subestudo do registro brasileiro de COVID-19, conduzido em 31 hospitais brasileiros de 17 cidades, de março a setembro de 2020. Os desfechos primários incluíram mortalidade hospitalar e suporte ventilatório mecânico invasivo. Os modelos para os desfechos primários foram estimados por regressão de Poisson com variância robusta, com significância estatística de p<0,05. Resultados Dos 2925 pacientes [idade mediana de 60 anos (48-71), 57,1%], 27,3% apresentaram lesão miocárdica. A proporção de pacientes com comorbidades foi maior nos pacientes com lesão miocárdica [mediana 2 (1-2) vs. 1 (0-20)]. Os pacientes com lesão miocárdica apresentaram maiores valores medianos de peptídeo natriurético cerebral, lactato desidrogenase, creatina fosfoquinase, N-terminal do pró-peptídeo natriurético tipo B e proteína C reativa em comparação a pacientes sem lesão miocárdica. Como fatores independentes, proteína C reativa e contagem de plaquetas foram relacionados com o risco de morte, e neutrófilos e contagem de plaquetas foram relacionados ao risco de suporte ventilatório mecânico invasivo. Os pacientes com níveis elevados de troponina apresentaram um maior risco de morte (RR 2,03, IC95% 1,60-2,58) e suporte ventilatório mecânico (RR 1,87;IC95% 1,57-2,23), em comparação àqueles com níveis de troponina normais. Conclusão Lesão cardíaca foi um preditor independente de mortalidade hospitalar e necessidade de suporte ventilatório mecânico em pacientes hospitalizados com COVID-19.

Abstract Objectives to verify the factors related to the level of use of the right to health of users with type 1 and 2 diabetes mellitus and understand the knowledge and the use of rights to health of these users. Methods mixed methods study, convergent type, conducted with 206 participants between November 2020 and April 2021. Data analysis was supported using SPSS® and IRAMUTEQ® software, as well as the adoption of Bardin's theoretical-methodological reference guidelines. Results a relationship was found between the score of the level of use of the right to health with monthly family income and self-reported skin color; and it was verified that the more economically vulnerable a population, the more they seek for rights, besides being evident the disparity related to ethnic groups and access to the right to health. Conclusion and implications for practice the combination of quantitative and qualitative data allowed a broader view of the knowledge and use of the right to health by individuals with diabetes. Thus, it is expected that the data obtained can contribute to a deeper reflection on the subject, favoring a qualified, informative and humanitarian assistance as a way to guarantee the right to health.

Resumen Objetivo verificar los factores relacionados con el nivel de utilización de los derechos a la salud de los usuarios con diabetes mellitus tipo 1 y 2 y comprender el conocimiento y la utilización de los derechos a la salud de estos usuarios. Método estudio de métodos mixtos, de tipo convergente, realizado con 206 participantes entre noviembre de 2020 y abril de 2021. El análisis de los datos se apoyó en el uso de los softwares SPSS® e IRAMUTEQ®, así como en la adopción de los referenciales teórico-metodológicos de Bardin. Resultados hubo relación entre el puntaje del nivel de uso de los derechos a la salud con el ingreso familiar mensual y el color de piel autoinformado; y se encontró que cuanto más vulnerable económicamente es una población, mayor es la búsqueda de derechos, además de ser evidente la disparidad relacionada con las etnias y el acceso a los derechos de salud. Conclusión e implicaciones para la práctica La combinación de datos cuantitativos y cualitativos permitió una visión más amplia sobre el conocimiento y el uso de los derechos a la salud por parte de las personas con diabetes. Por lo tanto, se espera que los datos obtenidos puedan contribuir a una reflexión más profunda sobre el tema, promoviendo una asistencia cualificada, informativa y humanitaria como forma de garantizar los derechos a la salud.

Resumo Objetivos verificar os fatores relacionados ao nível de utilização de direitos à saúde de usuários com diabetes mellitus tipo 1 e 2 e compreender o conhecimento e a utilização de direito à saúde desses usuários. Métodos estudo de métodos mistos, do tipo convergente, realizado com 206 participantes entre novembro de 2020 a abril de 2021. A análise dos dados teve como suporte a utilização dos softwares SPSS® e IRAMUTEQ® bem como a adoção das orientações do referencial teórico-metodológico de Bardin. Resultados constatou-se relação entre o escore do nível de utilização de direitos à saúde com renda familiar mensal e cor da pele autorreferida; e verificou-se que, quanto mais vulnerável economicamente uma população, mais se busca pelos direitos, além de ficar evidente a disparidade relacionada aos grupos étnicos e ao acesso aos direitos em saúde. Conclusão e implicações para a prática a combinação entre os dados quantitativos e qualitativos possibilitaram uma visão ampliada sobre o conhecimento e utilização dos direitos à saúde pelos indivíduos com diabetes. Logo, espera-se que os dados obtidos possam contribuir para uma reflexão mais aprofundada sobre a temática, favorecendo uma assistência qualificada, informativa e humanitária como forma de garantia dos direitos à saúde.

Abstract Objective To evaluate clinical characteristics and outcomes of COVID-19 patients infected with HIV, and to compare with a paired sample without HIV infection. Methods This is a substudy of a Brazilian multicentric cohort that comprised two periods (2020 and 2021). Data was obtained through the retrospective review of medical records. Primary outcomes were admission to the intensive care unit, invasive mechanical ventilation, and death. Patients with HIV and controls were matched for age, sex, number of comorbidities, and hospital of origin using the technique of propensity score matching (up to 4:1). They were compared using the Chi-Square or Fisher's Exact tests for categorical variables and the Wilcoxon for numerical variables. Results Throughout the study, 17,101 COVID-19 patients were hospitalized, and 130 (0.76%) of those were infected with HIV. The median age was 54 (IQR: 43.0;64.0) years in 2020 and 53 (IQR: 46.0;63.5) years in 2021, with a predominance of females in both periods. People Living with HIV (PLHIV) and their controls showed similar prevalence for admission to the ICU and invasive mechanical ventilation requirement in the two periods, with no significant differences. In 2020, in-hospital mortality was higher in the PLHIV compared to the controls (27.9% vs. 17.7%; p = 0.049), but there was no difference in mortality between groups in 2021 (25.0% vs. 25.1%; p > 0.999). Conclusions Our results reiterate that PLHIV were at higher risk of COVID-19 mortality in the early stages of the pandemic, however, this finding did not sustain in 2021, when the mortality rate is similar to the control group.

ABSTRACT Objective: To analyze the incidence of malaria among indigenous people associated with the presence of artisanal miningin the state of Pará. Method: Analytical, cross-sectional study conducted with 20,774 cases of malaria in indigenous people in the state of Pará (2011 to 2020). The data came from the Malaria Epidemiological Surveillance Information System, obtained from the Pará State Department of Public Health. In the analysis, Spearman’s correlation coefficient was used, with a significance of 5% (p < 0.05). Results: Incidence rates were high, especially in the Tapajós River Indigenous Special Health District (372.2/1,000 inhabitants). There was association between the incidence of malaria and the presence of indigenous people in artisanalmining activities on the Tapajós River (p=0.0008). Conclusion: The occurrence of malaria is unequal among the Special Indigenous Health Districts, being more frequent in those with greater mining activity, configuring exposure to the disease. It is necessary to adopt intersectoral measures, especially in areas of vulnerability to illness.

RESUMEN Objetivo: Analizar la incidencia de malaria entre indígenas asociada a la presencia de la minería en el estado de Pará. Método: Estudio transversal analítico realizado con 20.774 casos de malaria entre indígenas del estado de Pará (2011 a 2020). Los datos provienen del Sistema de Información de Vigilancia Epidemiológica de la Malaria, obtenidos de la Secretaría de Salud Pública del Estado de Pará. En el análisis se utilizó el coeficiente de correlación de Spearman, con una significación del 5% (p < 0,05). Resultados: Las tasas de incidencia fueron altas, especialmente en el Distrito Sanitario Especial Indígena Río Tapajós (372,2/1.000 habitantes). Hubo asociación entre incidencia de malaria y la presencia de indígenas en las minas del Río Tapajós (p=0,0008). Conclusión: La ocurrencia de malaria es desigual entre los Distritos Especiales de Salud Indígena, siendo más frecuente en aquellos con mayor actividad minera, configurando la exposición a la enfermedad. Es necesario adoptar medidas intersectoriales, especialmente en áreas de vulnerabilidad a la enfermedad.

Resultados: As taxas de incidência se mostraram elevadas, com destaque ao Distrito Sanitário Especial Indígena Rio Tapajós (372,2/1.000 habitantes). Houve associação entre incidência da malária e a presença dos indígenas nos garimpos no Rio Tapajós (p=0,0008). Conclusão: A ocorrência da malária é desigual entre Distritos Sanitários Especiais Indígenas, sendo mais incidente naqueles de maior atividade garimpeira, configurando exposição à doença. Faz-se necessária a adoção de medidas intersetoriais, sobretudo em áreas de vulnerabilidade ao adoecimento.

ABSTRACT Objective: to assess the financial toxicity of people with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis treatment. Method: a descriptive analytical cross-sectional study, carried out with 214 people, between February and May 2022. For data collection, a sociodemographic and clinical instrument and the COmprehensive Score for financial Toxicity were used. For analysis, the Odds Ratio, ANOVA and Cronbach’s alpha tests were used. Results: the mean financial toxicity score was 20.30. Women with a monthly family income of at most two minimum wages are more likely to have some degree of financial toxicity (Odds Ratio: 0.85; 0.76). Conclusion: financial toxicity was identified to different degrees and varied according to sociodemographic and clinical characteristics. Measuring financial toxicity can help nurses plan care and develop strategies to avoid interrupting treatment.

RESUMEN Objetivo: evaluar la toxicidad financiera de personas con enfermedad renal crónica en tratamiento de hemodiálisis. Método: estudio transversal analítico descriptivo, realizado con 214 personas, entre febrero y mayo de 2022. Para la recolección de datos se utilizó un instrumento sociodemográfico, clínico y el COmprehensive Score for financial Toxicity. Para el análisis se utilizaron las pruebas de Odds Ratio, ANOVA y alfa de Cronbach. Resultados: la puntuación media de toxicidad financiera fue de 20,30. Las mujeres con un ingreso familiar mensual de a lo sumo dos salarios mínimos tienen más probabilidades de tener algún grado de toxicidad financiera (Odds Ratio: 0,85; 0,76). Conclusión: la toxicidad financiera se identificó en diferentes grados y varió según las características sociodemográficas y clínicas. Medir la toxicidad financiera puede ayudar a las enfermeras a planificar la atención y desarrollar estrategias para evitar la interrupción del tratamiento.

Método: estudo descritivo analítico com corte transversal, realizado com 214 pessoas, entre os meses de fevereiro e maio de 2022. Para coleta de dados, utilizou-se instrumento sociodemográfico e clínico e o COmprehensive Score for financial Toxicity. Para análise, utilizaram-se os testes Odds Ratio, ANOVA e alfa de Cronbach. Resultados: a média do escore da toxicidade financeira foi de 20,30. Pessoas do sexo feminino e com renda familiar mensal de no máximo dois salários mínimos têm maiores chances de apresentar algum grau de toxicidade financeira (Odds Ratio: 0,85; 0,76). Conclusão: a toxicidade financeira foi identificada em diferentes graus e variou de acordo com as características sociodemográficas e clínicas. A mensuração da toxicidade financeira pode auxiliar o enfermeiro no planejamento do cuidado e na elaboração de estratégias para evitar a interrupção do tratamento.

ABSTRACT The phytonematodes seriously harm plants worldwide, reducing agricultural productivity, especially root-knot nematodes, genus Meloidogyne. An alternative form of control for this pathogen is the use of essential oils, which have a complex mixture of compounds with potential nematicidal activity. The objective of this work was to identify the chemical compounds present in the essential oil of pequi and to verify the efficiency of the oil in the control of Meloidogyne javanica. The identification of chemical compounds was performed by comparing the mass spectra obtained with the spectra present in the equipment library, Nist08. Eighty-second stage juveniles (J2) were incubated in the following treatments: control 0 (2 mL of distilled water) 2, 4, 8 and 16 mg L-1 of pequi essential oil (PEO). The results obtained in the experiment were significant, with a high percentage of mortality of J2 in the treatment T5 (16 mg L-1) of 82% and T3 (4 mg L-1) 66%, respectively. Among the compounds identified, 58.3% are esters, highlight for ethyl hexanoate, and 25.0% are monoterpenes, and all are nematicidal compounds. Pequi essential oil has the potential to be used in the control of M. javanica.

Abstract Scientific diving (SD) is defined as any diving activity that applies scientific procedures to produce subsidies for studies and technical works in underwater environments. The first report of an underwater scientific study in Brazil dates to the 19th century, in the Abrolhos reefs. Currently, in Brazil, scientific diving has been performed in various areas, from shallow coastal regions to remote and sometimes hard-to-reach places, such as oceanic islands, flooded caves, and icy areas like Antarctica. However, the regulation of SD in Brazil still lacks more concrete actions towards an effective and efficient self-regulation that offers physical safety to practitioners and institutional safeguards for organizations that use it in their research projects. Thus, this article aims to contribute to a better understanding of this critical issue in Brazil and to serve as a reference and incentive for the training of professionals and the development of these activities in the country. It includes: 1) a historical review of SD; 2) a diagnosis of the training and application of SD in Brazil; 3) the evolution of marine sciences in Brazil from the perspective of SD; 4) a review of the use of environmental assessment and underwater conservation techniques in oceans and internal waters; 5) an analysis of the evolution of scientific diver training in Brazil, including a diagnosis on training; 6) the history and updates of the rules, regulations, and safety of SD. Given all the potential of diving combined with specific techniques for research, monitoring, and marine and limnic science in Brazil, we aim to understand the evolution of scientific diving teaching and to outline perspectives in the country, as it is crucial for the training of qualified scientists capable of performing these underwater tasks. Finally, we present future plans for the development of this activity in Brazil from the point of view of research and the labor market.

Abstract Background Heart Failure is a significant public health problem leading to a high burden of physical and psychological symptoms despite optimized therapy. Objective To evaluate primarily the impact of a Stress Reduction, Meditation, and Mindfulness Program on stress reduction of patients with Heart Failure. Methods A randomized and controlled clinical trial assessed the effect of a stress reduction program compared to conventional multidisciplinary care in two specialized centers in Brazil. The data collection period took place between April and October 2019. Thirty-eight patients were included and allocated to the intervention or control groups. The intervention took place over 8 weeks. The protocol assessed the scales of perceived stress, depression, quality of life, anxiety, mindfulness, quality of sleep, a 6-minute walk test, and biomarkers analyzed by a blinded team, considering a p-value <0.05 statistically significant. Results The intervention resulted in a significant reduction in perceived stress from 22.8 ± 4.3 to 14.3 ± 3.8 points in the perceived stress scale-14 items in the intervention group vs. 23.9 ± 4.3 to 25.8 ± 5.4 in the control group (p-value<0.001). A significant improvement in quality of life (p-value=0.013), mindfulness (p-value=0.041), quality of sleep (p-value<0.001), and the 6-minute walk test (p-value=0.004) was also observed in the group under intervention in comparison with the control. Conclusion The Stress Reduction, Meditation, and Mindfulness Program effectively reduced perceived stress and improved clinical outcomes in patients with chronic Heart Failure.

Resumo Fundamento A Insuficiência Cardíaca é um importante problema de saúde pública, que leva à alta carga de sintomas físicos e psicológicos, apesar da terapia otimizada. Objetivo Avaliar primariamente o impacto de um Programa de Redução de Estresse, Meditação e Atenção plena na redução do estresse de pacientes com Insuficiência Cardíaca. Métodos Ensaio clínico randomizado e controlado que avaliou o impacto de um programa de redução de estresse comparado ao atendimento multidisciplinar convencional, em dois centros especializados no Brasil. O período de coleta de dados ocorreu entre abril e outubro de 2019. Um total de 38 pacientes foram alocados nos grupos de intervenção ou controle. A intervenção aconteceu ao longo de 8 semanas. O protocolo consistiu na avaliação das escalas de estresse percebido, depressão, qualidade de vida, ansiedade, atenção plena, qualidade do sono, teste de 6 minutos de caminhada e biomarcadores por um grupo cego, considerando um p-valor <0,05 como estatisticamente significativo. Resultados A intervenção resultou em redução significativa no estresse percebido de 22,8 ± 4,3 para 14,3 ± 3,8 pontos na escala de estresse percebido no grupo de intervenção vs. 23,9 ± 4,3 para 25,8 ± 5,4 no grupo controle (p-valor<0,001). Foi observada melhora significativa na qualidade de vida (p-valor=0,013), atenção plena (p-valor=0,041), qualidade do sono (p-valor<0,001) e no teste de 6 minutos de caminhada (p-valor=0,004) no grupo sob intervenção comparado com o controle. Conclusão O Programa de Redução de Estresse, Meditação e Atenção plena reduziu efetivamente o estresse percebido e melhorou desfechos clínicos em pacientes com Insuficiência Cardíaca.

ABSTRACT This research systematizes and analyzes public policies designed to generate labor and income for youth in the city of São Paulo, Brazil, investigating the main changes they have undergone since 2013. An empirical survey was conducted to establish connections between the conceptual basis of youth policies and the theories of public policy analysis. The study adopted the advocacy coalition framework and the punctuated equilibrium model to understand the inflection in the policies analyzed. The results show that entrepreneurship has become central in formulating labor and income policies since the second half of the 2010s.

RESUMEN El artículo se propone presentar una sistematización y análisis de las políticas públicas de generación de trabajo e ingresos para los jóvenes, en la ciudad de São Paulo, con el objetivo de investigar los principales cambios sufridos por estos programas desde 2013. A partir del levantamiento empírico, se buscó establecer conexiones entre la base conceptual de las políticas para la juventud y las teorías de análisis de políticas públicas, centrándose en la aplicación del modelo de coaliciones de incidencia. Fue posible percibir el movimiento del tema del emprendimiento al centro de la formulación de políticas laborales y de ingresos. Desde la perspectiva de la teoría de coaliciones, se trazaron hipótesis de conflictos entre diferentes coaliciones, lo que resultó en el fortalecimiento de las políticas empresariales desde la segunda mitad de la década de 2010.

RESUMO O artigo busca apresentar a sistematização e análise das políticas públicas de geração de trabalho e renda para a juventude, na cidade de São Paulo (SP), com o objetivo de investigar as principais mudanças havidas desde 2013. Buscou-se, por meio do levantamento empírico, estabelecer conexões entre a base conceitual das políticas para juventude e as teorias de análise de políticas públicas, utilizando-se os modelos do equilíbrio interrompido e das coalizões de defesa para interpretar a inflexão nas referidas políticas de juventude e trabalho. Foi possível assim compreender fatores relevantes para a movimentação do tema do empreendedorismo rumo ao centro da formulação de políticas de trabalho e renda, desde a segunda metade dos anos 2010.
