ABSTRACT One in four patients affected by maxillofacial trauma will have concomitant orbital fractures and ocular injuries; therefore, an ophthalmological evaluation is recommended for all patients who have been affected by facial trauma. Some ophthalmological exams soon after the trauma can be decisive for the preservation of visual acuity. Patients with physical examination findings of poor visual acuity, afferent pupillary defect, radiographic images with high depth of orbital fracture, are at greater risk of vision loss and specific concern for evaluation of ocular injury. The objective of this study was to gather the prevalent ophthalmologic clinical manifestations in patients affected by orbital fractures, to achieve a better perspective and understanding about the consequences that the pathology brings to the individual regarding ophthalmology and the most appropriate treatments. This is an integrative review study, using the Pubmed®/Medline®, SciELO, Virtual Health Library and Lilacs databases, with a controlled vocabulary according to the search strategy in each of the bibliographic databases, using the terms “ophthalmologic complications”, “prevalence”, “orbital fracture”, in studies published from 2013 to 2023. The quality of the articles was assessed using the Study Quality Assessment Tool from the Department of Health and Human Services. A total of 46 references were found, 20 in Pubmed®/Medline®, 17 in SciELO, 9 in the Virtual Health Library and none in Lilacs. After excluding duplicate references, 44 references were selected for eligibility assessment. After reading the titles and abstracts (n=44), 36 studies were excluded for the following reasons: articles that did not answer our scientific question (n=11) and publication over 10 years (n=25). In the eight selected articles, the objective of the study, the population studied, and the level of evidence were identified. The eight studies aimed to analyze orbital trauma with significant ocular and visual functional changes due to damage to bone, nerve, vascular, and even brain parenchymal tissue in the region of the floor and walls of orbital cavities. Among the most important ophthalmologic clinical manifestations, there are enophthalmos, diplopia, traumatic hyphema, retinal hemorrhage, amaurosis, chemosis, traumatic optic neuropathy and retrobulbar hematoma. Considering the eight studies analyzed, there was a unanimous presence of ophthalmological clinical manifestations in all affected patients, with low visual acuity and hyphema being predominant. Regarding the findings of lower prevalence, when equating them to the most common ophthalmologic clinical manifestations, they have as main factor the transient state, which can be concluded that, even with all the severity of the orbital fracture, its tendency is not to leave permanent sequelae in most cases, although the relationship established by the absence of permanent sequelae is not clear, speculating that this absence is due to the identification of the condition and the appropriate intervention in a timely manner.

RESUMO Um em cada quatro pacientes acometidos por trauma maxilofacial terão concomitantemente fraturas da órbita e lesão ocular. Por isso, uma avaliação oftalmológica minuciosa é recomendada para todos os pacientes que sofrem um trauma de face. Alguns exames oftalmológicos logo após o trauma podem ser decisivos para a preservação da acuidade visual. Sujeitos com achados de exame físico de acuidade visual deficitárias, defeito pupilar aferente e imagens radiográficas com alta profundidade da fratura da órbita estão em maior risco de perda de visão e justificam preocupação específica para avaliação de lesão ocular. O objetivo deste estudo foi reunir as manifestações clínicas oftalmológicas prevalentes em pacientes acometidos por fraturas orbitárias, com o intuito de adquirir melhor perspectiva e entendimento acerca das consequências que a patologia traz ao indivíduo, no que tange à oftalmologia e aos tratamentos mais adequados. Trata-se de estudo de revisão integrativa, utilizando as bases de dados Pubmed®/Medline®, SciELO, Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde e Lilacs, com um vocabulário controlado segundo a estratégia de busca em cada uma das bases de dados bibliográficas, por meio dos termos “ophthalmologic complications”, “prevalence”, “orbital fracture”, em estudos publicados de 2013 a 2023. A qualidade dos artigos foi avaliada usando o Study Quality Assessment Tool from the Department of Health and Human Services. Foram encontradas 46 referências, sendo 20 no Pubmed®/Medline®, 17 na SciELO, 9 na Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde e nenhuma na Lilacs. Após excluir referências duplicadas, foram selecionadas 44 referências para avaliação de elegibilidade. Após leitura dos títulos e resumos (n=44), 36 estudos foram excluídos pelas seguintes razões: artigos que não respondiam a nossa pergunta científica (n=11) e publicação superior a 10 anos (n=25). Identificaram-se, nos oito artigos selecionados, o objetivo do estudo, a população estudada o nível de evidência. Os oito estudos tiveram como objetivo analisar traumas orbitais com alterações funcionais significativas oculares e visuais pelo prejuízo ao tecido ósseo, nervoso, vascular e até parenquimatoso cerebral na região do assoalho e paredes de cavidades orbital. Dentre as manifestações clínicas oftalmológicas mais importantes, listam-se manifestação de enoftalmia, diplopia, hifema traumático, hemorragia retiniana, amaurose, quemose, neuropatia óptica traumática e hematoma retrobulbar. Considerando os oito estudos analisados, verificou-se a presença unânime de manifestações clínicas oftalmológicas na totalidade dos pacientes acometidos, sendo predominantes a baixa acuidade visual e o hifema. No que tange aos achados de menor prevalência, ao equipará-los às manifestações clínicas oftalmológicas mais encontradas, verifica-se que possuem como fator principal o estado transitório, concluindo-se que, mesmo com toda a gravidade do quadro de fratura orbitária, sua tendência é não deixar sequelas permanentes em grande partes dos casos, ainda que não seja nítida a relação estabelecida pela ausência de sequelas permanentes, especulando-se que essa ausência se deve à identificação do quadro e à intervenção adequada em tempo hábil.

ABSTRACT The growing consumer demand for sweet potato roots results in the need for genotypes with higher yields and better root quality. Thus, the objective of this study was to agronomically evaluate sweet potato genotypes via mixed models to select superior genotypes for human consumption and predict their selection gains. The study had a partially balanced triple lattice design with three replicates. As treatments, 92 sweet potato genotypes from the Universidade Federal de Lavras germplasm bank selected in the first selection cycle were evaluated along with eight controls, namely, Brazlândia Roxa, Princesa, Uruguaiana, BRS Amélia, Beauregard, UFVJM-57, UFVJM-58, and UFVJM-61. The treatments were ranked by the mixed linear model via restricted maximum likelihood (REML) and best linear unbiased prediction (BLUP). We highlighted the 15 best genotypes for each agronomic trait, then identified the best ones overall considering all quantitative and qualitative traits. High heritability was found for the trait commercial root yield (56.31%). For all traits, there were selection gains relative to the population mean. The use of mixed models was efficient for the selection of superior sweet potato genotypes. The genotypes 2018-19-464, 2018-72-1409, 2018-72-1428, 2018-19-443, 2018-36-807, 2018-72-1418, 2018-19-455, 2018-72-1376, 2018-54-1137, 2018-54-1114, 2018-65-1249, and 2018-28-556 have good traits related to commercial root yield and root quality and may be recommended for human consumption.

RESUMO Esse estudo teve por objetivo comparar a frequência, a quantidade de gols e a eficiência do ataque em superioridade numérica temporal entre equipes vencedoras e perdedoras e entre partidas equilibradas e desequilibradas em competição júnior de polo aquático masculino. Também foi testada a relação entre a ocorrência do placar equilibrado ou desequilibrado com a eficiência em realizar gols em superioridade numérica nos jogos das equipes vencedoras. Foram analisadas 56 partidas do Campeonato Pan Americano Júnior de Polo Aquático Masculino. As equipes foram classificadas como perdedoras ou vencedoras e o resultado da partida como equilibrado ou desequilibrado. Teste Mann-Whitney e o qui-quadrado foram utilizados. Não há diferença significativa na ocorrência de superioridade numérica entre vencedores e perdedores (p = 0,25) apesar dos vencedores fazerem mais gols (p = 0,002) e serem mais eficientes (p < 0,001). Não há diferença significativa na ocorrência de superioridade numérica (p = 0,81) e de gols (p = 0,03) nas partidas equilibradas e desequilibradas. Entretanto, nas partidas desequilibradas encontrou-se maior eficiência no arremesso (p = 0,01). Foi encontrado relação significativa (p = 0,04) entre a eficácia das equipes vencedoras em realizar gol em superioridade numérica com o placar desequilibrado.

ABSTRACT This study compared the frequency, number of goals and attack efficiency in temporal numerical superiority among winning and losing teams and among balanced and unbalanced matches in a junior men’s water polo competition. Another analysed relationship was that between a balanced or unbalanced final score and the efficiency at scoring goals in numerical superiority in the winning teams’ games. A total of 56 matches from the Pan-American Junior Men’s Water Polo championship was analysed. The teams were categorised as losers or winners and the match results were classified as balanced or unbalanced. The chi-squared and Mann-Whitney tests were used for statistical treatment. There is no significant difference in the occurrence of numerical superiority between winners and losers (p = 0.25) despite the winners scoring more goals (p = 0.002) and being more efficient (p < 0.001). There is no significant difference in the occurrence of numerical superiority (p = 0.81) and goals (p = 0.03) in balanced and unbalanced matches. However, there tends to be a higher shot efficiency (p = 0.01) in unbalanced matches. A significant relationship exists (p = 0.04) between the winning teams’ efficiency at scoring goals in a situation of numerical superiority and an unbalanced score.

Abstract This Consensus comes to light in the midst of one of the worst global health crises in the last 100 years. SARS-CoV-2 and its clinical manifestation, COVID-19, have caused a disruption in how doctors and patients interact. Although it is an infectious disease, one of the most notable characteristics is that its mortality increases in patients with chronic non-communicable diseases and, in particular, with a history of diabetes and cardiovascular disease. In this context, then, we believe that the recommendations made in this document, which aim to identify and protect these patients, become more relevant, while the implementation, beyond the statements, of specific cardiometabolic prevention policies becomes a priority. Methodology: this consensus is the result of the will of two Scientific Societies that have recognized the need to complement the focus on the same problem: that of patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) and cardiovascular disease (CVD), or who are at risk to suffer it. Both the Argentine Society of Cardiology (SAC) and the Argentine Society of Diabetes (SAD) have a recognized track record in the production of practice guidelines and consensus documents, although each has different work practices and cultures. Consequently, the first task that was faced was to agree, not only on the agenda and the approach to the different issues, but also on common working methods: general objective of the document, how to analyze and evalua-te the weight of the information, define the levels of evidence and determine the degrees of recommendation. It was agreed to adopt the modality used by the SAC in all the documents produced by the Consensus and Standards Area, set out in the following table: The experts who collaborated in the drafting of the Consensus were selected and invited to participate with the unanimous agreement of the group of Directors and Secretaries belonging to both Scientific Societies. Colleagues with recognized experience in the disciplines addressed were summoned to analyze the evidence and write the recommendations. All the methodological aspects and the final recommendations of this document were defined by agreement between the group of Directors and Consensus Secretaries.The information consolidation process was slow: from the decision of both companies until the writing of this document, the field of DM and CVD management underwent profound transformations that transcend the appearance of new therapeutic agents. What has been developed is a new approach model that is, in the words of Dr. Alicia Elbert, transdisciplinary. This has implied waiting and being able to understand and "process" all the information that has emerged in these years. This document, which aims to assist physicians in daily practice, has tried to adopt this new integrative perspective.

Abstract Aims: This study aimed to present a technical evaluation proposal for the crawl stroke that can be used with large groups of swimmers, based on an observation sheet. Methods: Fifteen healthy university students aged between 18 and 30 years were chosen to participate in the study. The subjects were recorded swimming at a distance of 50 meters using the crawl technique at a comfortable and self-determined speed. The recordings simulated docent observation capacity. Five swimming teachers were selected to evaluate the proposed checklist and the subjects’ technique. An observation sheet was created based on references present in literature containing ten items that are considered fundamental for swimming movements. The study was divided into (i) checklist validation, (ii) intra-evaluator consistency, and (iii) inter-evaluator consistency. Results: The proposed checklist fulfilled the validity criteria, with intra-evaluator consistency varying between reasonable and substantial, with k varying between 0.36 and 0.73 respectively, while inter-evaluator consistency was deemed reasonable (k = 0.24). Conclusion: According to the results that were obtained, the suggested list is valid and adequate for what it proposes to do.

ABSTRACT The chemical composition of ceramics has a deep impact on our understanding of their physical and chemical properties. This work performed a chemical and mineralogical characterization of clay mixtures with incorporation of a residue from the steel industry. The clay mixtures could be used in the brick production. Two types of clays were mixed with the proportion of 1:1 and the residue were incorporated with the proportions of 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%. Each material had their chemical composition analysed before the burning step. Five specimens were used to analyse their mineralogical composition after the burning step at the temperature of 800 °C. The tests performed to make the characterization were: X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Thermogravimetry (TG) and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC). The XFR analysis showed that the main components of the clays are the silicon oxide (SiO2) and the aluminium oxide (Al2O3), and for the residue, the main components are the iron oxides, represented by iron content (T-Fe). The XRD analysis showed the quartz as the most abundant mineral in clays, but that hematite, the most abundant mineral in the residue, appeared more as the amount of residue increased in the sample. Thermal Analysis confirmed the expected peaks in clays and identified an exothermic reaction in the sample with residue. The increase in the percentage of residue caused changes in the chemical composition of the samples, however, these variations were not remarkable, which suggests the red clay industry could add the residue in its production.

RESUMO A composição química das cerâmicas tem grande importância no entendimento das propriedades químicas e físicas desse material. Neste trabalho foram realizadas caracterizações química e mineralógica de misturas de argilas, incorporando um resíduo proveniente de uma indústria siderúrgica, para aplicar na produção de cerâmica. Dois tipos de argila foram misturados na proporção de 1:1 e o resíduo foi adicionado nas proporções de 5%, 10%, 15% e 20%. Avaliou-se a composição química de cada material puro e a composição mineralógica foi analisada após a etapa de queima, na qual 5 corpos de prova foram submetidos a uma temperatura de 800 °C. A caracterização foi realizada com os ensaios de Fluorescência de Raios X (FRX), Difração de Raios X (DRX), Termogravimetria (TG) e Calorimetria Exploratória Diferencial (DSC). A FRX mostrou os óxidos de silício (SiO2) e alumínio (Al2O3) como principais componentes das argilas e os óxidos de ferro (T-Fe, teor de ferro) como principais componentes do resíduo. A DRX mostrou o quartzo como o mineral mais abundante nas argilas, mas que à medida que a concentração de resíduo aumentava na amostra, aumentava também o teor de hematita, principal mineral encontrado no resíduo. A TG e a DSC confirmaram picos esperados nas argilas e identificou uma reação exotérmica nas amostras com resíduo. O aumento do percentual de resíduo provocou alterações na composição química das amostras, no entanto, não foram alterações significativas, o que indica a possibilidade do uso desse resíduo na produção de cerâmica vermelha.

Resumo A crescente demanda de água e as modificações no uso do solo que vêm ocorrendo na bacia hidrográfica do Córrego Zerede ensejaram a realização de análises hidrológicas a fim de um melhor entendimento da dinâmica do ciclo hidrológico local, focando na relação com as florestas e suas consequências para a qualidade da água. Para isso, foi realizado o monitoramento hidrológico através de medições de precipitação, vazão e estimativa de evapotranspiração, utilizando-se um pluviômetro digital sem fio, um atmômetro modificado e pelo conjunto calha Parshall e ITS-2000. Para as análises da qualidade da água, foram coletadas amostras em 5 pontos distintos do curso d’água e analisadas quanto à cor, turbidez, pH, sólidos suspensos totais (SST), condutividade elétrica (CE), demanda química de oxigênio, demanda bioquímica de oxigênio e coliformes termotolerantes. Os resultados mostraram que a evapotranspiração apresentou maior contribuição para saída de água da bacia que o deflúvio, com exceção dos meses de novembro a janeiro (2006/2007). No balanço final, verificou-se o saldo hídrico negativo de 247,7 mm, refletindo precipitações abaixo do esperado para o período e reforçando a importância de utilizar técnicas que permitam uma maior retenção de água na bacia hidrográfica. Os parâmetros CE e SST apresentaram diferenças estatísticas entre as médias dos pontos analisados pelo teste F a 5% de probabilidade, sendo que os demais parâmetros revelaram a inexistência de diferença estatística entre as médias. As análises microbiológicas apresentaram resultados negativos, com a água livre de coliformes termotolerantes. Conclui-se que a água se encontra nos padrões da Classe 1, da Resolução no 357 do Conama (2005) nos parâmetros analisados, indicando uma boa qualidade na Bacia Hidrográfica do Córrego Zerede.

Abstract The increasing water demand and changes in the land use in the watershed of the Zerede Ceek stimulated hydrological analyses to improve the understanding of the dynamics of the local hydrological cycle, focusing on the relationship with forests and the consequences for the water quality. To this purpose, the hydrological monitoring was carried out by measurements of rainfall, flow rate and estimated evapotranspiration, using a digital wireless rain gauge, a modified atmometer, a Parshall flume set and ITS-2000. For the water quality analysis, samples were collected at five different points of the water course and analyzed for color, turbidity, pH, total suspended solids (TSS), electrical conductivity (EC), chemical oxygen demand, biochemical oxygen demand and heat-tolerant coliforms. The results showed that evapotranspiration contributed more to the amount of water leaving the basin than outflow, except from November to January (2006/2007). The final fluid balance of 247.7 mm was negative, showing that rainfall was lower than expected for the period and reinforcing the importance of using techniques that allow greater water retention in the basin. The parameters EC and TSS differed statistically between the means of the points analyzed by the F test at 5% probability, unlike the other parameters. The microbiological tests were negative, with coliform-free water. It was concluded that the analyzed water parameters meet the standards of Class 1 defined by Resolution No 357 of CONAMA (2005), indicating good water quality in the Zerede Creek basin.

RESUMO O Fosfato Tricálcico-β (TCP-β) é um material sintético que apresenta composição química similar à do tecido ósseo, sendo, por essa razão, frequentemente empregado como biomaterial. Nesta pesquisa, TCP-β foi sintetizado por reação via estado sólido e caracterizado por Difração de Raios X (DRX), Espectroscopia de Infravermelho (IV), Microscopia Eletrônica de Varredura (MEV) e Espectroscopia de Raios X por Dispersão de Energia (EDX). A área superficial e a distribuição do tamanho de partículas foram determinadas pelo método BET (Brunauer-Emmet-Teller). Também se realizou teste de citotoxicidade segundo as normas ISO 10993-5 e ISO 10993-12. As técnicas de DRX e IV permitiram confirmar a formação da fase fosfato tricálcico-β, mediante seus padrões de difração e dos grupos funcionais característicos, respectivamente. Através do BET, constatou-se o caráter nanométrico das partículas sintetizadas. O MEV permitiu comparar a evolução da morfologia microestrutural, antes e após o tratamento térmico. Com os resultados de EDX, calculou-se a razão molar entre cálcio e fósforo, parâmetro usualmente empregado para identificação das diferentes fases de apatitas. No ensaio de citotoxicidade, as amostras não apresentaram alterações celulares (morfologia) e nem inibição do crescimento celular, indicando que, nas condições in vitro, o material não é tóxico. Todas essas caracterizações sugerem que o fosfato tricálcico-β obtido pode ser potencialmente utilizado para aplicações biomédicas.

ABSTRACT The β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) is a synthetic material that present similar chemical composition to bone tissue and is frequently used as biomaterial. Abstract INTRODUCTION The influence of cytomegalovirus (CMV) on the progression of chronic periodontitis in HIV patients is poorly investigated. METHODS ELISA was used for anti-CMV antibody IgG titer measurements and real-time polymerase chain reaction for qualitative and quantitative CMV detection. Data on the CD4 + T lymphocyte count and plasma HIV viral load were obtained from patient records. RESULTS CMV DNA was detected in samples of subgingival biofilm in only three individuals, two of them with chronic periodontitis (4%) and one with gingivitis (3.3%). CONCLUSIONS The prevalence of CMV is very low both in HIV-1 patients with gingivitis and chronic periodontitis.

ABSTRACT: The influence of cytokine on the progression of chronic periodontitis in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) patients is still controversial and poorly investigated. This study aimed to analyze and compare IL-6 and IFN-α levels in the gingival crevicular fluid of HIV-1-positive and HIV-1-negative patients with chronic periodontitis and different grades of tissue destruction and inflammation. Samples from the gingival crevicular sulcus were obtained from 35 HIV-1-positive individuals with chronic periodontitis and 35 seronegative patients with chronic periodontitis. Probing depth and clinical attachment level, as well as the results of the Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay for confirmation of patient diagnostics, were evaluated. Statistical analyses were performed using Student t, Mann-Whitney and Spearman tests. IL-6 levels were significantly lower, while IFN-α levels were significantly higher in HIV-1 patients. Clinical attachment level was directly associated with IFN-α levels in HIV-1 carriers, connected to probing depth in these patients. Clinical data in association with gingival crevicular fluid cytokine levels may reveal a localized immunological response pattern, which may contribute to the understanding of periodontitis pathogenesis in HIV-1 carriers.

RESUMEN: La influencia de la citocina en la progresión de la periodontitis crónica en pacientes con el virus de la inmunodeficiencia humana (VIH) sigue siendo controvertida y poco investigada. Este estudio tuvo como objetivo analizar y comparar los niveles de interleuquina-6 (IL6) e interferón-α (IFN-α) en el líquido crevicular gingival de pacientes VIH-1-positivos y VIH-1-negativos con periodontitis crónica y diferentes grados de destrucción e inflamación tisular. Se obtuvieron muestras del surco crevicular gingival de 35 individuos VIH-1 positivos con periodontitis crónica y 35 pacientes seronegativos con periodontitis crónica. Se evaluaron la profundidad de sondeo y el nivel de inserción clínica, así como los resultados del Ensayo Inmunoabsorbente Ligado a Enzimas para la confirmación del diagnóstico del paciente. Los análisis estadísticos se realizaron utilizando pruebas t de Student, Mann-Whitney y Spearman. Los niveles de IL-6 fueron significativamente más bajos, mientras que los niveles de IFN-a fueron significativamente más altos en los pacientes con VIH-1. El nivel de inserción clínica se asoció directamente con los niveles de IFN-α en los portadores del VIH1, conectados a la profundidad del sondaje en estos pacientes. Los datos clínicos en asociación con los niveles de citoquinas de los fluidos creviculares gingivales pueden revelar un patrón de respuesta inmunológica localizado, que puede contribuir a la comprensión de la patogénesis de la periodontitis en los portadores del VIH-1.

RESUMO O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o crescimento e a qualidade de mudas de Cassia grandis Linnaeus f. (cássia-rosa) em função da adubação fosfatada e da calagem. Os tratamentos foram representados por um fatorial de seis níveis de fósforo (0, 120, 240, 360, 480 e 600 mg dm-3) por cinco níveis de saturação por bases do substrato (3,5 (original), 25, 40, 55, 70%), sendo dispostos no delineamento em blocos ao acaso, com quatro repetições. Aos 65 dias após a repicagem, foram medidos a altura da parte aérea (H), o diâmetro do coleto (DC), a massa de matéria seca da parte aérea (MSPA), massa de matéria seca de raízes (MSRA) e massa de matéria seca total (MST), e calculada a relação MSPA/MSRA e o índice de qualidade de Dickson (IQD). A adubação fosfatada teve influência significativa em todas variáveis estudadas. A dose de fósforo adequada para a produção de mudas de qualidade de Cassia grandis nas condições estudadas, na saturação por bases de 25%, é de 600 mg dm-3.

ABSTRACT This study aimed at evaluating the growth and seedling quality of Cassia grandis Linnaeus f. in response to liming and phosphate fertilization. The treatments were arranged in a factorial design of 6 phosphorus levels (0, 120, 240, 360, 480 and 600 mg dm-3) by 5 base saturation levels (3,5 (original), 25, 40, 55, 70 %), in randomized blocks with four replicates. The height of the aerial part (H), collar diameter (DC), dry matter of shoot (MSPA), dry matter of root (MSRA), and total dry matter (MST) were determined at 65 days after the transplanting. The relation between dry matter of shoot and dry matter of root (MSPA/ MSRA) and Dickson quality index (IQD) were calculated at this stage. There were significant effects from the phosphate fertilization to all studied variables. Based on this study, the recommended P dose for quality seedling production of Cassia grandis is 600 mg dm-3, for 25% of substratum’s base saturation.

RESUMO O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o crescimento e a qualidade de mudas de Plathymenia foliolosa Benth. (vinhático-da-mata) em resposta à adubação fosfatada e saturação por bases do substrato. Os tratamentos foram representados por um fatorial de seis níveis de fósforo (0, 120, 240, 360, 480 e 600 mg dm-3) por cinco níveis de saturação por bases do substrato (3,5, 25, 40, 55, 70%), sendo dispostos no delineamento em blocos ao acaso, com quatro repetições. Aos 118 dias após a repicagem, foram obtidas a altura da parte aérea (H), o diâmetro do coleto (D), a massa de matéria seca da parte aérea (SDM), de raízes (RDM) e total (TDM), e calculada a relação SDM/RDM e o índice de qualidade de Dickson (DQI). A adubação fosfatada teve efeito significativo para todas as variáveis estudadas. O efeito da saturação por bases também foi significativo, exceto para a SDM/RDM. Não foi observado efeito significativo para a interação entre saturação por bases e adubação fosfatada. Para as condições estudadas, recomenda-se a aplicação de 300 mg dm-3 de P, sem necessidade de calagem, para a produção de mudas de vinhático-da-mata.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the growth and quality of seedlings of Plathymenia foliolosa Benth in response to base saturation of substrate and phosphate fertilization. The treatments were arranged in a factorial design of 6 P levels (0, 120, 240, 360, 480 and 600 mg dm-3) by 5 base saturation levels (3.5, 25, 40, 55, 70 %), in randomized blocks with four replications. The height of aerial part, neck diameter, shoot dry matter, root dry matter and total dry matter were determined at 118 days after the transplanting. It was still calculated the relation shoot dry matter/root dry matter and the Dickson Quality Index. There were significant effects of the phosphate fertilization for all studied variables. The base saturation had influence on all studied variables, except for the shoot dry matter/root dry matter relation. No significant effect of the interaction between base saturation of substrate and phosphate fertilization was observed on seedlings growth and quality. For the studied conditions, it is recommended 300 mg dm-3 of P for the production of quality seedlings of Plathymenia foliolosa without the necessity of liming.

Abstract Introduction: Primary graft dysfunction is a major cause of mortality after heart transplantation. Objective: To evaluate correlations between donor-related clinical/biochemical markers and the occurrence of primary graft dysfunction/clinical outcomes of recipients within 30 days of transplant. Methods: The prospective study involved 43 donor/recipient pairs. Data collected from donors included demographic and echocardiographic information, noradrenaline administration rates and concentrations of soluble tumor necrosis factor receptors (sTNFR1 and sTNFR2), interleukins (IL-6 and IL-10), monocyte chemoattractant protein-1, C-reactive protein and cardiac troponin I. Data collected from recipients included operating, cardiopulmonary bypass, intensive care unit and hospitalization times, inotrope administration and left/right ventricular function through echocardiography. Results: Recipients who developed moderate/severe left ventricular dysfunction had received organs from significantly older donors (P =0.020). Recipients from donors who required moderate/high doses of noradrenaline (>0.23 µg/kg/min) around harvesting time exhibited lower post-transplant ventricular ejection fractions (P =0.002) and required longer CPB times (P =0.039). Significantly higher concentrations of sTNFR1 (P =0.014) and sTNFR2 (P =0.030) in donors were associated with reduced intensive care unit times (≤5 days) in recipients, while higher donor IL-6 (P =0.029) and IL-10 (P =0.037) levels were correlated with reduced hospitalization times (≤25 days) in recipients. Recipients who required moderate/high levels of noradrenaline for weaning off cardiopulmonary bypass were associated with lower donor concentrations of sTNFR2 (P =0.028) and IL-6 (P =0.001). Conclusion: High levels of sTNFR1, sTNFR2, IL-6 and IL-10 in donors were associated with enhanced evolution in recipients. Allografts from older donors, or from those treated with noradrenaline doses >0.23 µg/kg/min, were more frequently affected by primary graft dysfunction within 30 days of surgery.

Autism is characterized as a behavioral disorder. The autistic patient has some difficulties with common life routines, such as oral hygiene and also improper diet. As a consequence the refusal of physical contact, the implementation of brushing and flossing by caregivers is difficult. The present study aimed to conduct an epidemiological study of autistic patients in treatment at the Rehabilitation Center and Neurological Organization in North of Brazil, adopting the CPO-D and ceo-d. The clinical examination has been performed with the patient sitting in chairs, at the Rehabilitation Centre itself, under artificial fluorescent light intended for room lighting. From 26 patients included in the study, 76.9 % of subjects were male with a mean age of 13 years. Fifty percent had caries, and 11.5% had lesions on the gums. The mean ceo-d of children 28 years was 0.67. In patients 1015 years and 2040 years, the mean CPO-D was 0.70, and 3.00, respectively. From the study, the most significant data, seen was that half of autistic patients had carious lesions. It is vital to improve oral health conditions in these patients and by using preventive dentistry, analyze their susceptibility to oral diseases.

El autismo se caracteriza como un trastorno conductual. El paciente autista tiene algunas dificultades en las rutinas ordinarias de la vida, tales como la higiene oral. Como consecuencia, la negativa al contacto físico, la implementación del cepillado y uso de hilo dental es difícil para los cuidadores. Este estudio tuvo como objetivo llevar a cabo un estudio epidemiológico de los pacientes autistas en el Centro de Rehabilitación y la organización neurológica en el norte de Brasil, adoptando el CPOD y ceod. El examen clínico se realizó con el paciente sentado en una silla en el propio Centro de Rehabilitación, bajo una luz fluorescente artificial para la iluminación de la habitación. Veintiseis pacientes fueron incluidos en el estudio, el 76,9 % de los sujetos eran varones con una edad media de 13 años con un 50 % de caries, y en un 11,5 % se observaron lesiones gingivales. La media ceod de los niños de 2 a 8 años fue de 0,67. En los pacientes de 1015 años y 2040 años, el promedio CPOD fue de 0,70 y 3,00, respectivamente. A partir del estudio se pudo determinar que la mitad de los pacientes autistas tienen caries. Es importante la educación de estos pacientes para mejorar la salud oral y la aplicación de la odontología preventiva.
